With a comprehensive social plan, the reduction of around 150 jobs in Ettlingen is to be realised in a socially acceptable manner.
68 employees will remain at the Ettlingen site in sales, marketing and administration. This means that ten more jobs than assumed in January 2022 have been secured. In the future, Dr. Oetker Professional will focus on profitable growth in the strategic assortments "Pizza, Cake and Dessert". Production is expected to be discontinued by the end of 2022.
Axel Zinke, member of the Management Board of Dr. Oetker Germany, said: "We would like to thank the works council for the negotiations, which were very tough but constructive. It is still a very painful path, but we are securing the future of the site and supporting the employees who are leaving us with the social plan."

BYD has delivered five of its first new generation 12-metre pure-electric eBuses to Deutsche Bahn
Germany’s largest Public Transport Operator
The operator has a framework agreement in place with BYD for the rollout of eBus orders in 2021 and beyond
A 500 km road journey for BYD e-buses The official handover to DB took place […]
The official handover to DB took place in Ettlingen
located in the district of Karlsruhe in Germany
This concluded a 500 km road journey for the BYD eBuses from Oosterhoud in the Netherlands to their Karlsruhe destination
stopping only for a short break in Bonn for the drivers to rest and top-up charging
This delivery further enhances DB’s evolving electric bus fleet which will operate on both urban and national routes
Each of the five pure-electric buses is powered by BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery technology with increased energy density that now provides an even longer driving range for continuous hours of non-stop operation
And adds: «Under Standardised on Road Test (SORT) conditions
the new generation 422 KWh battery delivers an impressive driving range in excess of 400km on a single charge
The driving range capability has been further demonstrated by the recent 500 km journey from The Netherlands to Germany»
The latest generation 12-metre BYD eBus includes an all-new emissions-reducing CO2 air conditioning system
The unique ‘6 in 1’ controller is also another important feature inherent to BYD eBuses
BYD claims it is the only electric bus manufacturer to develop a control system which integrates the battery
motor controller and all the vehicle’s principle electronic components in one complete electric vehicle ecosystem
speaking on behalf of Deutsche Bahn in Germany commented: “These are the first BYD vehicles in our fleet
we have seen an increase in demand from the PTAs for vehicles with alternative drive and especially for buses with electric drive
we assume that we will see more vehicles in our fleet during the next weeks and months
“The vehicles have an impressive long range
Even with extreme temperatures during the winter and fully loaded
Drivers who have tested the buses have been very satisfied with regards to the riding experience
driving dynamics and driving characteristics.”
says: “We are proud to be a partner of electric buses to DB and despite the pandemic
This is yet another example of how public transport operators throughout Europe are making the transition to electric mobility solutions from BYD.”

The food manufacturer is reacting to changing demands in out-of-home-market. / Production at the Ettlingen site is to be discontinued.
Demand in the out-of-home market for dry, spicy products has been declining for years. The Corona pandemic has exacerbated this development. The declining utilisation of production at the Ettlingen plant has led to losses since 2016. The markets for pizza, baking and dessert – Dr. Oetker's strategic assortmens – are showing positive developments in the out-of-home business. Accordingly, Dr. Oetker Professional division will focus on sales of these lines in the future.
Dr. Oetker Professional will increasingly develop into a solution provider for holistic service solutions. The company currently expects strong growth especially in the area of pizza with the ranges of snacks, sheet pizza and round pizzas, already introduced exclusively in the out-of-home market. Further innovations will follow. The introduction of Pizza Perfettissima, an Italian stone-baked pizza with a hand-made look, has already been a considerable success since 2020.
Axel Zinke, Member of the Management Board of Dr. Oetker Germany, comments on the decision: "I very much regret the developments of recent years. Dr. Oetker Professional is a great team with excellently qualified and committed employees. It is particularly painful to take restructuring measures in this environment. Against the background of the market changes, however, they are unavoidable in order to secure the long-term future of Dr. Oetker Professional.
