Kevin Moller was in superb form in the Flensburg goalPatrick Süphke / DPA / dpa Picture-Alliance via AFP / ProfimediaFlensburg Handewitt's Danish profiles Kevin Moller and Lasse Moller proved a big mouthful for GOG in the return leg of their European League quarter-final clash as the Germans booked an expected 35-29 win in Northern Germany on Tuesday evening. The Danish visitors were dealt a 29-35 away defeat to Flensburg-Handewitt
who overall won the doubleheader in the quarter-finals by eight goals
Two Danes from Flensburg led the charge. Kevin Moller produced a number of strong reflex saves, while Lasse Moller stood out at the other end with nine goals
GOG's exit from the tournament came as no surprise
as the Danes lost the home leg by three goals and were left with a mountain to climb before the return leg in Flensburg
Flensburg-Handewitt won the tournament last season

before GOG began to find their feet in the match
The biggest problem for the Danish visitors
was getting the ball past a superb goalkeeper
who had an outstanding game between the German goalposts
Kevin Moller's save percentage was 43
while Flensburg-Handewitt's lead was 17-12 with Lasse Moller scoring seven goals
In comparison, Peter Johannesson had a save percentage of 15 in the Danish goal, while Tobias Grondahl was leading goalscorer with four goals for the visitors at the break
GOG tried to up the pace but struggled to get into their stylish stride against the experienced Germans who never allowed the Danes back into the game

The financing of the FSG-Nobiskrug Shipyard sites in Rendsburg and Flensburg are secured until January
via the insolvency substitute benefits and a loan secured by the guarantee bank of the state of Schleswig-Holstein
the future is dependent on the successful search for investors to revitalize the sites by completing existing and new orders
several interested investors have already visited the shipyard sites in Rendsburg and Flensburg within the first 10 days after the insolvency proceedings were opened on December 12
This shows the high strategic importance of shipyards for defence and the energy transition
The provisional insolvency administrators of the shipyard group reported on this at a press conference in Flensburg on December 23
The occasion was a visit by Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck and a joint discussion with representatives of the trade union IG Metall Küste and works councils from both shipyards
Minister Habeck emphasised the outstanding importance of the shipbuilding industry for Germany and for the North in particular
He assured them of his personal commitment to maintaining the sites
as the shipyards are only financed until the end of January 2025.
The provisional insolvency administrators have therefore immediately started looking for investors
"We have already held initial talks with potential investors
Their positive investment decision is dependent on the future capacity utilisation of the sites," said Dr
Christoph Morgen (Brinkmann & Partner law firm)
provisional insolvency administrator of FSG-Nobiskrug Holding GmbH and Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft mbH
"In addition to orders for superyachts and the completion of the RoRo ferry in Flensburg
the prospect of future orders for the navy and the offshore wind industry are of particular importance
potential investors are hoping for planning security through political commitments," continued Dr Morgen
There is already great interest in the Rendsburg site
particularly for the construction of superyachts.
"This high level of demand in the early phase of the search for investors makes me confident that we will find a viable solution despite the extremely tight schedule," said Hendrik Gittermann (REIMER law firm)
provisional insolvency administrator of Nobiskrug Yachts GmbH and FSG Nobiskrug Design GmbH
"I was particularly pleasantly surprised by the many enquiries from abroad
They show that the quality of the superyachts built by Nobiskrug continues to enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide," said Gittermann. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck during the press conference at FSG.Photo credit: Marianne Lins

"I had several good conversations with the club management about a possible contract extension. But during the talks I had with Nicolej Krickau, I felt that he didn't want to bet on me"
says Gottfriedsson to the German handball magazine "Bock auf Handball"
Krickau took over the reigns at Flensburg in the summer of 2023 and it was obvious fro the beginning that Krickau had other ideas than Gottfriedsson in terms of how the team should be playing
During Krickau's time at the club Gottfriedsson's role decreased which made him rethink this possible future
if it is only his own that are implemented anyway
says Gottfriedsson to the German handball magazine
where he also says that he lost motivation along the way
Ultimately Gottfriedsson instead decided to sign an agreeement with Pick Szeged from the summer of 2025 and today Krickau confirms that there were disagreements between himself and Gottfriedsson
"Jim has been used to playing all the time and making all the decisions, and I didn't think he had the skills to solve it at the level I wanted. And therefore I deprived him of some of the responsibility that he had enjoyed. I stand by that 100 percent, and I would do it again", Krickau says to TV 2 Sport
Krickau was sacked in the middle of december last year following a string of disappointing results
Heinrich Rönner Group will operate FSG in Flensburg
while the Lürssen Group will take over Nobiskrug in Rendsburg
Flensburger Schiffbaugesellschaft (FSG) and Nobiskurg
are to be taken over by new owners after the opening of insolvency proceedings
will be operated by the Heinrich Rönner Group after it agreed to buy the shipyard
will be taken over by Lürssen and operated as part of the neighbouring Lürssen-Kröger shipyard after the shipbuilder submitted a notarised offer for the yard
Both offers will be accepted by insolvency administrators Dr Cristoph Morgen and Hendrik Gittermann – from law firms Brinkmann & Partner and Reimer
respectively – after the opening of insolvency proceedings
"We have managed to find two renowned strategic investors for FSG and Nobiskrug within the extremely tight time frame of just seven weeks," said Dr Christoph Morgen
“We are delighted that the takeover by Lürssen has created a long-term perspective for Rendsburg,” added Hendrik Gittermann
“The traditional company is an excellent fit for Nobiskrug
the capacities and locations of the two shipyards complement each other almost perfectly.”
The workforces of both yards were informed about the move at staff meetings
with the state of Schleswig-Holstein’s minister president Daniel Günther and state secretary for economic affairs Julia Carstens visiting the Flensburg shipyard to mark the occasion
The owners of the Heinrich Rönner Group also introduced themselves to the employees in Flensburg
significant investment is required to bring both shipyards back into operation
Preparatory work such as obtaining certifications
renovating buildings and procuring materials will be carried out in the coming months
A transfer company will therefore be set up for the employees to manage the transition from 1 February and enable them to gain further qualifications
Over 95 per cent of the 500 employees have agreed to this process

The home side opened a 9:6 lead after 12 minutes
but then their French opponents gained momentum
and as their goalkeeper Dino Slavic boasted a 41 per cent saving efficiency in the first half
Limoges were in front by four goals at half-time
Schaffhausen made a strong comeback in the last 20 minutes
but now Limoges did not repeat their mistakes and continued to dominate in the second half
as the Ukrainian became the top scorer of the match with 12 goals
and his team cruised to a commanding victory
FENIX Toulouse (FRA) vs VfL Gummersbach (GER) 31:30 (14:15)
Gummersbach had boasted a five-game winning run at the EHF European League Men
as the German team missed a chance to secure an early main round spot
the German team created a 9:6 advantage after 15 minutes
And while Gummersbach won the first half by the smallest of margins
their French opponents did not give up and seized the initiative after the break
Toulouse goalkeeper Yassine Belkaied stood like a wall
ending the match with 15 saves and a 42 per cent save rate
as his team led for most of the second half
they ultimately became the first German team to drop points in the current group matches

German powerhouse SG Flensburg-Handewitt has taken an important first step toward advancing to the semi-finals of the 2024/25 EHF Men's European League
Plensburg dominated GOG (Denmark) 29-26 in the first leg of the quarterfinals at Arena Svenborg in Svenborg
Emil Jakobsen scored seven goals to spearhead the attack
while Lasse ø and Lukas ø also scored six goals each
ø made a crucial contribution to his team's victory by showing off his iron wall defense with 14 super saves
Hjalte Lykke's six goals and Henrik Jakobsen's five goals
the home team GOG knelt down due to a lack of concentration at the end of the game
Goalkeeper Peter Johannesson also made 11 saves
Starting with Henrik Jakobsen's opening goal
but Flensburg turned the tide with Emil Jakobsen's back-to-back goal
which had a 15-13 lead until the end of the first half
A tight battle continued in the second half
GOG's Tobias Grundal scored a goal to take a 25-24 lead
but Flensburg then scored five consecutive points in the final minutes
Flensburg faced a second-round home game in a more favorable situation
In the second round of the quarterfinals on the 29th
Plensburg will advance to the semifinals with a minimum draw against GOG
As the EHF European League's winning team last season
Plensburg is once again challenging to win the top spot this season based on its solid organizational and defensive skills
Bremen-based Lürssen Group has bid to acquire the facilities and land at the insolvent Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg
Nobiskrug will become part of the neighbouring Lürssen-Kröger shipyard
This update follows the news that FSG and Nobiskrug
owned by the controversial German businessman Lars Windhorst
Both yards’ financial decline is attributed to poor management
according to provisional insolvency administrators Christoph Morgen
there may be hope for the two historic yards on the horizon
The Rönner Group from Bremerhaven will continue to operate the Flensburg shipyard
and Lürssen has submitted a notarised offer for Nobiskrug
“We have managed to find two renowned strategic investors for FSG and Nobiskrug within the extremely tight time frame of just seven weeks,” explains Dr Christoph Morgen
“In the week following the opening of the insolvency proceedings
technical preparations will begin at the Flensburg shipyard for the Rönner Group to resume shipyard operations
for coming all the way from Tasmania to northern Germany to secure the new vessel 784 here in Flensburgg.”
“We are delighted that the takeover by Lürssen has created a long-term perspective for Rendsburg
The traditional company is an excellent fit for Nobiskrug
the capacities and locations of the two shipyards complement each other almost perfectly,” adds Gittermann
Local politicians have been heavily involved in proceedings
with Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister President Daniel Günther and State Secretary for Economic Affairs Julia Carstens coming to the Flensburg shipyard
where both workforces have been informed about the developments
“Nobiskrug will be retained as a shipbuilding and industrial site,” adds Dr Martin Bitter
Chairman of workers union IG Metall Rendsburg
“This is good news in these uncertain times
there is a buyer with the economic capacity and the necessary expertise to bring the shipyard back into calmer waters.”
Construction of the LNG-powered RoRo vessel for the Australian shipping company SeaRoad will now move forward at the Flensburg shipyard under the Rönner Group’s direction
Extensive preparatory work still needs to be done
such as obtaining TÜV authorisations and certifications
a transfer company has been set up for the employees
The transfer company temporarily retains the workforce while efforts continue to restructure the shipyard and secure new management and investors
This company will ensure the transition as of 1 February and enable them to gain further qualifications
Over 95 per cent of the 500 employees contractually agree to this procedure
Chairman of workers union IG Metall Flensburg
“FSG can now once again show that it can fulfil technically highly demanding orders,” he says
“Rönner Group has an outstanding team that always fights for its shipyard
These are the people you need when it comes to complex shipbuilding contracts and Germany's energy security
They are ready and waiting in the transfer company.”

New owners have been secured for German shipyards Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) and Nobiskrug, which entered receivership in December.
The group said shipbuilder Ronner Group from Bremerhaven will operate the Flensburg shipyard and Bremen-based Lurssen Group will take over the facilities and land at Nobiskrug in Rendsburg.
Insolvency administrators Christoph Morgen of Brinkmann & Partner and Hendrik Gittermann of Reimer will accept the offers following the opening of insolvency proceedings.

Simon Pytlick again had an excellent game for Flensburg matching Gidsel's eight goals and Mads Mensah as well Emil Jakobsen also put in fine performances for the visitors who
was forced to cave in to the pressure from the home side in the final stages of the match
The home side led by six goals at one point in the first half, but Flensburg cut the deficit to three goals by the break. However, the Foxes then pulled away again in the second half no less thanks to 15 saves by the Serbian goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev.
To the match centre: Füchse Berlin vs. SG Flensburg-Handewitt
Gidsel and Füchse will continue their fight for a direct ticket to the quarter-finals against Pelister Bitola in the penultimate preliminary round match of the Champions League in Group A
Füchse Berlin are currently in fourth place in the group
How much top-level handball can fit into one family
SG Flensburg-Handewitt right back Kay Smits is the youngest member of a family of five — all are or were Dutch internationals; father Gino
27-year-old Kay Smits reflects on growing up in a handball-mad family and his rise to the top of the sport
as he opens up about the most difficult period of his career
when a heart issue sidelined him for several months last season
I am the youngest of three; Jorn and Inger are five and three years older than me
so they started earlier with team sports and with handball
for what I was going to do or what I wanted to do
I got a first taste of the sport through them and learned a bit about what handball was and why they liked it so much
when my dad was coaching (Dutch club side) Sittardia
my brother and my sister had training with their teams
and my mother was teaching handball to the E-team
I loved handball so much — and I never stopped playing it
My parents never forced us into playing handball
they encouraged us to try out a lot of different sports
All three of us did this; I was into athletics
Same story like with handball: Inger was already doing athletics
so I knew what it was a bit and that I wanted to try it as well
That is the advantage of being the youngest
but what I really didn’t like were the 1,000 and 1,500 metres and the long-distance running
but the combination of all disciplines was fantastic
I felt like I wanted to improve in handball and invest more time in that
That was around the time I went to high school
where I could also play handball and get extra training
It was the moment for me to stop with athletics
it was just not possible to keep combining it
Athletics is fantastic for a child that wants to do sports
It is the basis for many sports: speediness
running — all essentials for playing handball
Coaches have always asked me if I had done athletics in the past
handball was always a topic of conversation at the dinner table
it was very interesting and we liked it a lot
because handball was new to us and we still had so much to learn
But when we got older and spent more time playing handball
conversations that were not about handball became nicer
Sometimes we really searched for other topics
‘Can we now talk about something other than handball?’
We don’t see each other much in person nowadays
But we also know it is not very often that we are all together — luckily it happened again for two days at Christmas — so we are aware that this time is very valuable
My goal as a handball player was always to go abroad
But I had an agreement with my parents that I first had to finish school and get my driver’s license
I started planning and looking for a club abroad — which I found in Wilhelmshaven
I was still young and it was hard to predict where my career would go
I also had the opportunity to go to France or to the first Bundesliga
I would be mainly used as a right wing and that was not what I wanted
Denmark was a bit more accessible for me than the first divisions in France or Germany
That would have been too big a step for me at that time
I got the chance to play at a very professional club in a very competitive league
and that was where I wanted to develop myself further
and Inger played for the women’s team of Holstebro
I could learn a lot from them because they had been ahead of me
They could tell me everything about the club and the people
so I knew Holstebro would fit perfectly in my picture
I have developed fantastically there and had a lot of fun
It was a mixture of short- and long-term career planning
since I knew their type of game would suit me well
This was something I just couldn’t say ‘no’ to
suddenly my dream became a reality — much faster than I had thought
I learned more than in any other two years of my career
It ended with winning the EHF Champions League
I always thought more about clubs or leagues where I wanted to play
I wasn’t thinking further like: ‘I want to win the Champions League’
or: ‘I want to become world champion.’ Of course
but with the Netherlands it will be very difficult to accomplish this
winning the Champions League felt bigger than a dream come true
those dreams have become a little bit more reality
I had no idea if it would ever be possible for me to play for Magdeburg or for Flensburg
only the real world-class players went there
but this was still a different piece of cake
we played more and more against those top-quality countries and players
they were very good players and they certainly were well ahead of me
but I felt like I would be able to do the same in a few years’ time
also winning the Champions League; three years before
Before we reached the peak season with Magdeburg
I wasn’t happy with my role in the team and I knew that this was not the best for me
because I wasn’t first choice and didn’t get much playing time
I wanted a bigger and more challenging role
so I signed with them already before going into my final season with Magdeburg
we didn’t have a good season last year but
we ended it with a prize by winning the EHF European League
including the Bundesliga and the Champions League
which are the two biggest prizes in club handball
many clubs rate winning the Bundesliga higher than winning the European League
because it is definitely harder to win the German league
it felt good to end my first season in Flensburg with a trophy
especially after what I had gone through in the months before
I remember well how it started in the beginning of November 2023
I felt how quickly I got exhausted during high intensity training and matches
After we came back from Norway from a European League game with Flensburg
I was completely exhausted at the next training ahead of a Bundesliga game
I first thought that maybe I hadn’t slept well or was just overloaded
But then I had one match where I felt normal
so I immediately thought that the issue was all over and that I was fine again
that maybe it had just been some little virus or so
I went to the club doctor and told him something was not right
I was absolutely exhausted after five minutes
We started doing various tests and kept searching as we couldn’t find the answer
we came to the diagnosis of an inflammation of the heart muscle
we had detected the problem relatively soon and the situation was pretty much under control
who had worked with a range of top-level athletes with heart issues
When you break your arm or twist your ankle
it was always wait and see how the scans would look like
I was not allowed to do any sports or to get my heart rate up too much
And because I only felt the symptoms while doing sports
I didn’t know if things were improving or not
It took so long; it kept me in a state of insecurity during the recovery
I had a good feeling about it in general and hoped I had a good chance based on what the doctors said and all the information I got
And if it’s not possible because of my heart
I cannot change that.’ That was an awkward feeling
The doctors told me some possible scenarios of how things could go
But they could not give me any guarantee whatsoever
They said it could be three months of complete rest
they saw things improve and develop the way it should in an ideal scenario
The first few days after the diagnosis in mid-December
it took me a while before I accepted that I could not play in the European championship with the Dutch team the following month
That was the most difficult thing to accept
When the situation was clearer and we had more information a few days later
I also expected my entire season with Flensburg would be over
My thoughts were just that I wanted to play handball again: ‘I don’t care about this season
I don’t have to play anything with the club or the European League
I just hope my heart heals and then I have all the time to recover.’ Those thoughts brought peace to my mind
The recovery had three phases for me: recovery without sport
and being healthy again and allowed to play handball without restrictions
I felt when I stayed at one place for too long
I had too much time — and too much time to think
It was clear what I missed — not being at the European championship
But I used the time to be with my girlfriend a lot
I only had a few moments where I felt negative looking to the future or where I had doubts
But the third phase in the recovery — returning to handball without restrictions — was the most challenging part for me
Because I thought that once I have no issues with my body anymore and I am healthy again and feel physically close to where I was before
then I could start playing handball again like I had always done
it has not been on my mind what happened last year
But I cannot say that doubts will never arise
I haven’t felt the same exhaustion again like I did a year ago
or if I would go through a similar phase again later in my career
I can imagine that I would feel anxious or doubtful
I can always visit the club doctor and do some tests to exclude any issues
I know we can always act fast and check things right away

"He convinced us with his philosophy and his vision of working together in Flensburg
He is a very good coach and we see potential and development in him," said sporting director Ljubomir Vranjes
Pajovic commented on his appointment: "I've watched a lot of SG matches and still see room for improvement
We have a top team here with great potential
We have to put the past behind us and now look forward together."
As a player, Pajovic was a three-time Champions League winner with BM Ciudad Real and won multiple titles in Slovenia and Spain
He was under contract with both SC Magdeburg (2011-2013) and TuS N-Lübbecke (2013-2015)
He has been national coach of the Austrian national handball team since 2019
SG Flensburg-Handewitt is currently fifth in the German Handball Bundesliga
Shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) and superyacht shipyard Nobiskrug have officially filed for insolvency
deepening the ongoing crisis for their parent company
District courts in Flensburg and Neumünster have appointed the lawyers Christoph Morgen

REIMER as provisional insolvency administrators
submitted to the district courts in Flensburg and Neumünster
follow months of financial instability and reported mismanagement
The bleak reality of the situation became evident on Monday this week when the SH public utility company threatened to cut off the power supply at the Rendsburg facility due to a lack of payments since 1 December
No immediate action was taken because a federal police ship was still in the dock for repairs
Workers at both firms are bearing the brunt of the crisis
The shipyards’ financial woes have left around 500 employees in limbo before Christmas
workers' union representatives alleged repeated delays in salary payments
including November wages and Christmas bonuses
Local sources report that Flensburg Works Council chairman Jan Brandt accused Windhorst of lying repeatedly and breaking promises of timely payments
Windhorst has become a target of criticism
poor communication and unfulfilled promises
unions and politicians have all demanded his resignation
Schleswig-Holstein’s Economics Minister
called for Windhorst to face up to his responsibility and sell the shipyards or insolvency would clear the way for new investors
It seems the latter option is now set to come to fruition
with hopes new management will turn the tide
Investor Lars Windhorst’s Tennor Group took over the FSG in 2019
relaunching it as “FSG 2.0” without old debts or new orders
Despite repeated announcements of future projects
FSG acquired Rendsburg-based Nobiskrug as it filed for insolvency
but the acquisition has done little to alleviate the financial strain
this situation worsened as the German federal government withdrew a €62 million grant intended for the construction of liquefied gas bunker ships at FSG
citing Tennor’s inability to demonstrate sufficient equity capital
the provisional insolvency administrators are working with the project managers of the RoRo ferry at FSG and the yacht Nobiskrug to resolve both projects
the administrators plan to consult with federal and state governments about potential interim financing to bridge construction costs until client acceptance and payment
they will explore further restructuring strategies for both shipyards
Insolvency pre-financing has also been arranged to secure financial recompense for 340 workers at the Flensburg site and 140 employees from the Rendsburg facility
This measure will cover payments through the end of January 2025
and the news of FSG's insolvency came as little surprise to many

The latest developments are a stark reminder of the volatility of the market
but they also serve as an opportunity to be constructive and build something new
The situation is crying out for a new owner to step in and support shipyards with a sizeable skilled workforce and an opportunity to rebuild a legacy that has been marred by mismanagement and poor decision-making in recent years.
