Mainz and Eintracht Frankfurt battled to a 1-1 Bundesliga draw despite injuries and Frankfurt's early lead This Sunday's Bundesliga clash between Mainz and Eintracht Frankfurt at the MEWA Arena delivered a 1-1 draw fought valiantly but couldn't secure the win they desperately needed to climb the table missed the opportunity to guarantee their place in Europe's top competition next season injuries to Dominik Kohr and Danny da Costa disrupted their rhythm in the first half with Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Jae-sung Lee coming close to scoring Frankfurt's Rasmus Kristensen broke the deadlock in the 16th minute Jonathan Burkardt equalizing in the 57th minute with a somewhat fortunate goal that deflected off Kristensen The final whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1 a result that left both sides with something to ponder remain two points outside of the European places with only two matches left four points ahead of fourth-placed Freiburg will be confident they can secure Champions League football next season but need one more win This draw keeps the race for European spots incredibly tight promising an exciting finish to the Bundesliga season but Mainz's Burkardt scored an equalizer to secure a point for his team The draw leaves both teams vying for Champions League qualification Johannes Burkardt scored the equalizer for Mainz 05 His goal was crucial in securing a point for his side against a strong Eintracht Frankfurt team and keeps their Champions League hopes alive The 1-1 draw keeps the Champions League race incredibly tight Both Mainz and Frankfurt remain in contention but the result means neither team gained a significant advantage over their rivals Mainz had to contend with injuries during the match The exact nature and extent of the injuries weren't guarantee themselves a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) this weekend but did move four points clear of fourth-placed SC Freiburg. The visitors issued a statement of intent inside the opening minute courtesy of talisman Hugo Ekitiké with his effort impressively saved by Lasse Rieß the hosts suffered a significant blow as Dominik Kohr sustained a serious-looking injury to his left knee Mainz then began to settle into the contest, until out of the blue, Rasmus Kristensen benefited from a fortunate ricochet that allowed him to find Ekitiké who returned the pass for the Dane to finish past the onrushing Rieß Match statsStatsperformThe hosts suffered more injury woe midway through the first period as Danny da Costa was withdrawn, with Silvan Widmer coming on to don the captain’s armband, before there was another brief pause due to paper balls being chucked at corner taker Nadiem Amiri by the Frankfurt fans Mainz thought they had equalised in first-half stoppage time as Anthony Caci’s lovely pinpoint cross was headed home with aplomb by Lee Jae-sung – who had missed a presentable chance a couple of minutes earlier – only for the offside flag to be raised Mainz refused to allow their heads to drop and they came out after the break looking the more threatening of the two sides Widmer’s throw-in was flicked on to the back post, where Kristensen, unaware of Jonathan Burkardt’s presence booted the ball against him for it to agonisingly loop out of the reach of Kevin Trapp Bo Henriksen’s men began to sense that a win was possible although the threat of Ekitiké remained as the Frenchman miscued a lob on 69 minutes it was Ekitiké again who could have netted the winner only for his dink to just go wide of Rieß’s right-hand post while Burkardt also had a late opportunity After missing out on their first league double over Frankfurt in five years Mainz are winless in seven Bundesliga games but sit just two points adrift of the European places with Frankfurt that will run twice daily is expected to significantly enhance Prague’s connectivity to long-haul international destinations while also bringing down ticket prices for global travel The new route offers morning and evening flights both to and from Frankfurt serviced by Airbus A321neo and A320 aircraft The timing of these flights is designed to align with Condor’s wide-ranging long-haul connections out of Frankfurt providing Czech travelers with greater access to North America and other regions previously underserved by direct routes from Prague While Frankfurt is already served from Prague by Lufthansa the entry of Condor introduces competition on the route and expands options for travelers looking to connect beyond Europe Condor’s Frankfurt hub links to destinations such as Boston and recent fare listings have shown prices well below typical rates—sometimes under CZK 10,000 for round-trip tickets director of aviation business development at Prague Airport the route was introduced not only to enhance direct access to Frankfurt but also to leverage Condor’s intercontinental network The airline’s growing focus on city tourism was cited as one reason for adding Prague to its schedule along with other Central European cities like Vienna The Prague–Frankfurt flights depart daily at 8:50 a.m with return flights from Frankfurt at 6:40 a.m This schedule allows for convenient same-day onward connections to numerous long-haul flights Condor’s debut in Prague comes amid broader growth in air travel for the 2025 summer season Prague Airport is forecasting record traffic with more than 18 million passengers expected this year The airport currently offers connections to 165 destinations through 75 airlines and its summer timetable includes new or expanded routes operated by Asiana Airlines Prague’s connectivity to cities like Seoul and additional capacity is being added on routes to Southern Europe and the Baltics The airport is also seeing larger aircraft deployed on select lines and more frequent weekly flights Condor’s presence adds to this trend by offering a new gateway to intercontinental travel from Prague via Frankfurt The airline’s positioning as a leisure-focused carrier with competitive pricing is likely to appeal to both individual travelers and tour operators Your morning coffee deserves a great companion. According to BILD journalist Christian Falk Liverpool and Arsenal are both interested in signing Hugo Ekitiké (22) from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer transfer window The Premier League club are eager to sign a striker in the summer and the former PSG forward has been earmarked as a priority target Ekitiké has had an impressive season in the Bundesliga The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals for Frankfurt this season in 31 league appearances With Omar Marmoush departing for Manchester City the Frenchman has also had to adapt to leading the line single-handedly and has adapted to this transition well Frankfurt are on course to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season and will receive a financial boost the club do not need to sell and are set to demand a hefty fee for Ekitiké The Bundesliga club will only consider bids in the region of €100m for the former France youth international GFFN | Liam Wraith Yet another high-stakes fixture took place today as Mainz hosted Eintracht Frankfurt in a hostile and atmospheric Mewa Arena The onus was on Bo Henriksen's team to hunt victory as they hoped to keep touch with the European places neither side managed to find a match-winning moment to claim maximum rewards Eintracht Frankfurt roared out of the dressing rooms as Hugo Ekitiké raced into the penalty area and tested debutante Lasse Reiß with a low effort The game was subsequently stopped for a handful of minutes as Dominick Kohr hobbled from the field in the 10th-minute with an ankle injury Die Adler surged into a 1-0 lead as Rasmus Kristensen acted as the catalyst in the move The Dane played a one-two with Ekitiké who unselfishly returned it back into his path The marauding wing-back kept calm to slot the ball beyond Reiß with ice in his veins Mainz improved as the half wore on as Robin Hanche-Olsen headed over the bar from an Amiri corner Jae-Sung Lee caused the Frankfurt defence bother on a few occasions and the Korean actually had the ball in the net before half-time A VAR review would cut short any celebrations with offside the verdict.  The second-half desperately required a spark and that spark arrived on 57 minutes as Mainz restored parity Anthony Caci's long throw in fell to the back post where Kristensen attempted to clear until Jonathan Burkardt bundled the ball over Kevin Trapp's hesd A 16th-goal of the campaign making him Die Nullfünfers' record top-scorer in a Bundesliga season The hosts looked far likelier of the two teams to score a second in the following period of the game An opportunity fell the way of Sano who blazed wide as Mainz put their visitors under relentless pressure Dino Toppmöller cut a frustrated figure as his side started to come off second best Frankfurt easily could have snatched victory late on as Stefan Bell coughed up possession to Ekitiké The French marksman attempted to chip Reiß Burkardt came close to netting a brace in injury time but the German sliced his half-volley left and wide as both teams had to make do with a point apiece.  Share price 8408.00p 2 May 2025 at 16:42 News releases the brand’s first hotel in Germany and a vibrant new addition to Kimpton’s European bid has lost considerable momentum in recent weeks having failed to win any of their last six matches since they beat Borussia Mönchengladbach on March 7 That run of results has seen them alternate between home draws and away defeats including a heavy 3-0 loss in last Saturday’s meeting with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena die Nullfünfer have slipped down to seventh position in the Bundesliga table leaving them one point adrift of the top six with three games left to play against Frankfurt Mainz will still fancy their chances of taking something from Sunday’s contest having avoided defeat in each of their last 11 home league games since losing to RB Leipzig in October The hosts are looking to complete a Bundesliga double over Frankfurt after clinching a 3-1 victory in December’s reverse fixture.  Mainz defender Anthony Caci will have to be assessed after he was forced off in the first half against Bayern Moritz Jenz missed last Saturday’s defeat and remains a doubt for Sunday’s fixtures Frankfurt are sitting in third place in the Bundesliga table after winning 16 drawing seven and losing eight of their 31 league matches Die Alder have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent times having lost just one of their previous six Bundesliga games They began that run of results with back-to-back victories against Bochum and Stuttgart before they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Werder Bremen After returning to winning ways against Heidenheim Frankfurt had to settle for a goalless draw in their away clash with Augsburg before they went on to thrash RB Leipzig in last Saturday’s home outing Ansgar Knauff netted a brace alongside goals from Hugo Ekitiké and Robin Koch to secure a 4-0 victory representing a third consecutive home league game without conceding.  With a four point advantage over fifth spot Dino Toppmöller's side know they can clinch a top-four finish with two games to spare if they take all three points from Sunday's fixture considering they have drawn each of their previous three away league games against Mainz.  The visitors are unable to call upon the services of Kaua Santos and Mario Götze due to knee and thigh injuries respectively. Stadium this spring to see the top scorer in the Super League and they now want to sign Kvistgaarden this summer However Eintracht Frankfurt who are also interested in Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn will have to fight to the limit for the Brondby striker because according to their sources who have previously bid for Mathias Kvistgaarden (in January) have also been present at Vestegnen for the matches in The Egyptian has scored 12 and created six in 29 Bundesliga games for Eintracht this season averaging a goal contribution every 128.4 minutes An underappreciated attacker in the Bundesliga, Marmoush has somewhat of an unorthodox style of play. Very direct and quick, the 25-year-old can operate anywhere across the front three, but often operates in the halfspaces. Home » German Navy Wraps Indopacific Deployment – A Naval News Assessment The German Navy concluded its “Indopacific Deployment 2024” (IPD24) of F125 frigate Baden-Wuerttemberg (F222) and auxiliary Frankfurt am Main (A1412) Despite the name the effort represented a global circumnavigation covering 45,000 nautical miles over a duration of seven months After calling port in Incheon, the ships then proceeded through the Taiwan Strait As part of the South China Sea-leg of the journey IPD24 also visited Jakarta the German Navy then used the opportunity to conduct exercises with the Indian Navy Maneuvers included cross deck aviation training replenishment operations and firing exercises Leaving Goa, the security environment in the Red Sea provided an obstacle to the originally intended return of both ships via the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Neither ship by is suitably equipped to counter the Houthi threat of drones and ballistic missiles Lacking available AAW-escorts in the region the German Navy directed IPD24 to take the longer but safe way around the Cape of Good Hope The ships docked in Cape Town on November 13 as Baden-Wuerttemberg headed back into the Mediterranean The German Navy has earmarked F222 as contribution to UNIFIL Meanwhile supply ship Frankfurt am Main sailed on to Germany In this context F222 demonstrated the type’s viability for extended missions across the globe as originally intended Similar to F217 Bayern’s deployment in 2021 IPD24 also enabled the German Navy to once again exchange experiences and know-how with navies in operational environments very distinct from the usual deployments within a European and NATO-context force posture and commitments remains understandably focused on the NATO-area of operations Events like IPD24 do not primarily focus on substantial material contributions of the service to global theatres Rather they signal German political willingness to engage with global partners in naval security- and foreign policy-matters The Taiwan Strait-transit served to illustrate an ambition to come true on stated political imperatives Avoidance of the Red Sea over the Houthi-threat however displays the severe operational limitations the German Navy continues to face on the stated ambition to “display the flag in service of international security” The difficult security situation in the Red Sea existed before IPD24 set sail and will likely persist for some time. Other navies continued to transit the Red Sea, notably the Italian carrier Cavour also returning from its own “Indo-Pacific” deployment From a purely national point of view the German decision to take the longer way home was compelling Lack of adequate resources and the imperative of operational safety are rationales standing for themselves Strategic and operational planning however in the grander scope may want to reflect on considering a wider range of options coming true on declared aspirations Increased management flexibility liaising with partners conducting operations in similar theatres and timeframes appears to offer solutions here Naval News brings you news coverage of the latest naval defense shows & events. at least to some - as if a new Russia could be constructed on top of the fundamental historical truths that Scherbakova and her colleagues revealed I can even tell you the exact moment when it finally came to an end: the morning of February 20 when Russian troops illegally marched across the peninsula of Crimea That was the moment when the work of writing Russian history once again became dangerous Because that was the moment when the past and present collided No historian of tragedy ever wants to look up When I was researching the history of the Gulag in the Soviet archives in the 1990s I assumed that this story belonged to the distant past When I wrote about the Soviet assault on Eastern Europe a few years later I also thought that I was describing an era that had ended And when I studied the history of the Ukrainian famine the tragedy at the center of Stalin's attempt to eradicate Ukraine as a nation I did not imagine that this same kind of story would or could repeat itself in my lifetime old plans were taken out of the same Soviet archives For those who've forgotten the invasion of Crimea The Russian soldiers who spread out across the peninsula traveled in unmarked vehicles Were these "separatists" who were staging an uprising Were they "pro-Russian" Ukrainians I knew that this was a Russian invasion of Crimea because it looked exactly like the Soviet invasion of Poland That invasion took place seventy years earlier featured Soviet soldiers wearing Polish uniforms a Soviet-backed communist party pretending to speak for all Poles and a series of other acts of political fakery that were designed to confuse not only the people of Poland but also Poland's allies in London and Washington And the invasion itself was only the beginning and then again after the full-scale invasion of February 2022 cruelly familiar patterns repeated themselves Russian soldiers treated ordinary Ukrainians as enemies and spies They used random violence to terrorize people They imprisoned civilians for minor offenses - the tying of a ribbon with Ukrainian colors to a bicycle for example - or sometimes for no reason at all which we could also call concentration camps They stripped Ukrainians of everything that makes them human this kind of assault has had different names There is a German word too: Gleichschaltung It means the imposition of arbitrary autocratic rule: a state without the rule of law or signs of the liberal democratic order - the Freiheitliche demokratische Grundordnung defined as totalitarian: "Everything within the state Russia was already on the way to becoming a totalitarian society having launched two brutal wars in Chechnya having murdered journalists and arrested critics The Russian experience of occupation in Ukraine paved the way for harsher politics inside Russia itself independent institutions were completely banned the unique historical and human rights group co-founded by Irina Scherbakova This deep connection between autocracy and imperial wars of conquest has a logic to it If you truly believe that you and your regime have the right to control all institutions all organizations; that you can strip people not just of rights but of identity and life; then of course you also believe that you have the right to inflict violence on whomever you please Nor will you object to the human costs of such a war: if ordinary people have no rights then why should it matter whether they live or die "Nowhere is there as much belief in war as in Germany...nowhere are people more inclined to overlook its horrors and disregard its consequences nowhere is soldiering celebrated more uncritically."  Russian schools now train small children to be soldiers Russian television encourages Russians to hate Ukrainians The Russian economy has been militarized: Some 40% of the national budget will now be spent on weapons Russia now does deals with Iran and North Korea two of the most brutal dictatorships on the planet The constant talk of war in Ukraine has also normalized the idea of war in Russia Russian leaders now speak casually of using nuclear weapons against their other neighbours and regularly threaten to invade them criticism of the war is not merely discouraged in Russia My friend Vladimir Kara-Murza made the brave decision in 2022 to return to Russia and speak out against the invasion from there Because he wanted the history books to record that someone opposed the war When he and others who had been unjustly imprisoned were finally released in exchange for a group of Russian spies and criminals including a murderer taken from a German prison his captors hinted that he should be careful because since Russian secret policemen had already poisoned him twice more than 116,000 Russians have faced criminal or administrative punishment for speaking their minds Thousands of them have been punished specifically for objecting to the war in Ukraine Their heroic battle is mostly carried out in silence Because the regime has imposed total control over information in Russia a place so closely connected to German democracy What about all of us in the rest of Europe - what should we do Our voices are not restrained or restricted We are not jailed or poisoned for speaking our minds How should we react to the revival of a form of government we thought had disappeared from this continent forever The occupation and destruction of eastern Ukraine is happening just a day's drive by car from here or a two-hour flight - or it would be a two-hour flight if the airports were open Europeans again turned on their televisions to see scenes of a kind they knew only from history books: women and children huddled at train stations More than fifty countries joined a coalition to aid Ukraine faith in democratic institutions and alliances has declined dramatically Maybe our indifference to the invasion of Crimea played a larger role in this decline than we usually think The decision to accelerate economic cooperation with Russia in the wake of the invasion certainly created both moral and financial corruption That cynicism was then amplified by a Russian disinformation campaign faced with the greatest challenge to our values and our interests in our time the democratic world is starting to wobble Others want to change the subject to the Middle East but one where we Europeans have far less influence A Hobbesian world makes many claims upon our resources of solidarity A deeper engagement with one tragedy does not denote indifference to other tragedies We must do what we can where our actions will make a difference These are the people who do not support or condemn but rather affect to stand above the argument - either believing or pretending to believe that it is a moral argument - and declare "I want peace." Some even call for peace by referring solemnly to the "lessons of German history."  As I am here today accepting a peace prize this seems the right moment to point out that "I want peace" is not always a moral argument This is also the right moment to say that the lesson of German history is not that Germans should be pacifists we have known for nearly a century that a demand for pacifism in the face of an aggressive advancing dictatorship can simply represent the appeasement and acceptance of that dictatorship I am hardly the first person to point this out horrified by the situation in Germany and the complacency of the liberal democracies denounced the "pacifism that brings about war instead of banishing it." In 1942 George Orwell condemned his compatriots who called upon Britain to stop fighting you automatically help that of the other."  also argued against the false morality of his era's pacifists who at that time wanted to disarm Germany and Europe in the face of the Soviet threat: "Anyone," he declared "who believes and wants to make others believe that a Europe without weapons can ensure peace for the foreseeable future is mistaken and is misleading others."  I think we can use some of these words once again Many of those in Germany and in Europe who now call for pacifism in the face of the Russian onslaught are indeed "objectively pro-Russian," to use Orwell's phrase mean that we should acquiesce to the military conquest of Ukraine to the construction of concentration camps in Ukraine We are nearly three years into this war - what would it have meant to plead for peace in early 1942 Those whom we praise now as the German resistance - did they just want peace Or were they trying to achieve something more important Let me say it more clearly: those who advocate 'pacifism,' and those who would surrender not just territory but people have learned nothing from the history of the twentieth century at all The magic of the phrase "never again" has blinded us to reality before In the weeks before the invasion in February 2022 found war so impossible to imagine that the German government refused to supply Ukraine with weapons And yet here is the irony: had Germany and the rest of NATO supplied Ukraine with those weapons well in advance "a form of pacifism that brings about war instead of banishing it."  But let me repeat again: Mann loathed the war Sperber and his family were themselves refugees from war Yet it was because they hated war with such passion and because they understood the link between war and dictatorship that they argued in favor of defending the liberal societies they treasured conscious of its vitality and inspired by the knowledge that fanatics without shame or doubt must not be allowed to exploit and lay waste the principles of freedom skepticism." Orwell wrote that "to survive you often have to fight and it is often the lesser evil." As for Sperber he declared in 1983 that "we old Europeans unfortunately have to become dangerous ourselves in order to keep the peace."  I am quoting all of these old words and speeches in order to convince you that the challenges we are facing are not as new as they seem which is why the words of our liberal democratic predecessors speak to us European liberal societies have been confronted by aggressive dictatorships before Germany is one of the liberal societies that can lead the fight To prevent the Russians from spreading their autocratic political system further we must help the Ukrainians achieve victory If there is even a small chance that military defeat could help end this horrific cult of violence in Russia just as military defeat once brought an end to the cult of violence in Germany The impact will be felt on our continent and around the world Not just in Ukraine but in Ukraine's neighbors This is also a battle against hopelessness and even against the creeping appeal of autocratic rule which is also sometimes disguised beneath the false language of 'peace.' The idea that autocracy is safe and stable that autocracies protect some form of traditional values while democracies are degenerate - this language is also coming from Russia and the broader autocratic world as well as from those inside our own societies who are prepared to accept as inevitable the blood and destruction inflicted by the Russian state Those who accept the erasure of other people's democracies are less likely to fight against the erasure of their own democracy In the face of what feels like an endless war and an onslaught of propaganda it is easier just to accept the idea of decline what the Ukrainians are fighting for - and it is they where independent courts protect people from arbitrary violence; where the rights to thought and assembly are guaranteed; where citizens are free to engage in public life and not frightened of the consequences; where security is guaranteed by a broad alliance of democracies and prosperity is anchored by the European Union Autocrats like the Russian president hate all these principles because they threaten their power Independent judges can hold rulers to account A free press can expose high-level corruption A political system that empowers citizens allows them to change their leaders International organizations can enforce the rule of law That is why the propagandists of autocratic regimes will do what they can to undermine the language of liberalism and the institutions that guard our freedoms inside their own countries and in ours as well it is a new experience to be asked for help to be called upon to provide weapons to be used against an aggressive military power But this is the true lesson of German history: not that Germans should never fight but that Germans have a special responsibility to stand up and take risks for freedom have been trained to be critical and skeptical of our own leaders and of our own societies so it can feel awkward when we are asked to defend our most fundamental principles But please hear me: don't let skepticism decline into nihilism and the alliances we have built around them are our most powerful weapons Against the resurgence of authoritarianism we in the democratic world are natural comrades And so we must now affirm - and act upon - our shared belief that the future can be better and that dictatorship can be defeated once again; our shared belief that freedom is possible Thank you all again for your time and attention This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page You don't have permission to access the page you requested What is this page? The website you are visiting is protected. For security reasons this page cannot be displayed APAC REIT sells former Lufthansa/IBM site to unnamed buyer Keppel’s data center real estate investment trust (REIT) has sold a data center in Frankfurt It was announced this week that Keppel DC REIT Management Pte has entered into a sale and purchase agreement to divest the 100 percent freehold interest in the Kelsterbach Data Centre to an unrelated (and unnamed) third party The all-cash deal was valued at €50 million ($52.4m) and expected to close in the first half of 2025 the 540,870 sq ft (50,250 sqm) property comprises a five-story shell and core data center and six-story office block “The divestment of Kelsterbach Data Centre aligns with our strategy to concentrate on the hyperscale data center market where demand trends match Keppel DC REIT’s core competencies,” said Loh Hwee Long Keppel DC REIT remains well-positioned to pursue accretive data center investment growth opportunities in key digital hubs in Asia Pacific Keppel DC REIT acquired the site in late 2019 from Maena KG for €81.8 million the property was fully leased on a triple-net basis until the end of 2025 Keppel didn’t share details of the address or the tenant but images of the facility matches Kyndryl’s Kelsterbach campus along Am Weiher 24 IT services firm Kyndryl took over the site after being spun out from IBM in 2021; IBM took over Lufthansa’s IT business in 2014 taking over the site in Kelsterbach as part of the deal Keppel still has one other data center in Frankfurt. located in one of Frankfurt’s most iconic buildings Officials are currently negotiating a lease for office space in the soaring office block which would amount to €198,000pa for 6,000 sqm The various German authorities are providing an average €2 million per annum over the next five years to cover the authority’s start-up costs – with a promise to review ongoing financial assistance an iconic landmark and one of Frankurt’s most recognised skyscrapers is currently under negotiation to potentially become the home of AMLA’s future offices including direct access to the metro railway with its own underground station,” a spokesperson for AMLA told AML Intelligence The authority will be chaired by Italy’s Bruna Szego whose appointment will be ratified by EU governments later this month She will be joined by five other members of an executive board overseen by a supervisory board of 54 regulators and FIU chiefs The building will make a pleasant change for officials joining from Brussels where Commission and agency buildings are usually housed in the EU quarter’s often window-less offices amidst the area’s “brutalist” architecture It should also be a draw for officials in national governments and may also attract European Banking Authority staff currently working in Paris’ La Defense area The Messeturm’s developers say the building “is probably the most striking skyscraper in the heart of Frankfurt am Main the landmark is not only one of the tallest but also one of the best-known buildings in Germany.” The tower’s “pencil” design was created by well-known architect Helmut Jahn and built between 1988 and 1991 Describing the recent refurbishment project the developers say: “In the course of an extensive reload project the building has recently been adapted to modern requirements and now offers not only state-of-the-art offices but also a wide range of services on more than 60,000 sq m These include an elegant restaurant in the basement a new café-bar with outdoor terrace and a new and elegant business and conference centre.” state and city governments put the Messeturm forward as its first option: “The 63-floor Messeturm is a prominent landmark in Frankfurt’s skyline it offers the highest standards that meet today’s requirements for a modern working environment.” The German government also indicated that the block met many of the requirements made by EU authorities As part of the agreement to locate in Frankfurt the state of Hesse and the city council are providing financial support to AMLA during its start-up period “when AMLA will not yet be collecting fees from direct supervisory activities.” This is in the form of “a lump-sum grant totalling an estimated €10 million would be provided that would be paid out over a five-year period AMLA could use this fast-start financing to help cover the various authorities also declared “their willingness to review the possibility of providing additional funding if the legislation that ultimately establishes the legal basis for AMLA gives rise to additional financial needs.” If you would like unlimited access to AML Intelligence premium articles access to our Global Bank Fines and Penalties (Photo by Kirill Kudravtsev / AFP) Frankfurt, Germany: German sportswear giant Adidas on Tuesday warned that US President Donald Trump's tariffs will increase prices for its products in the United States, and the hardline trade policies could dent its ongoing recovery. The firm makes a large chunk of its goods in Asian countries that Trump has singled out for running hefty trade surpluses with the United States, including China, which is facing the highest US levies. CEO Bjorn Gulden said Adidas had reduced its exports from China to the United States "to a minimum", but added that the group was still "somewhat exposed to those currently very high tariffs". "What is even worse for us is the general increase in US tariffs from all other countries of origin," he said, adding that they "will eventually cause higher costs for all our products for the US market". He said it was "currently impossible" to work out by how much prices might rise or conclude what impact this might have on consumer demand. Adidas's shares were down around one percent in early afternoon trade on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Beyond China, Adidas also makes products in countries including Vietnam, Indonesia and Bangladesh. The North American market accounted for around a fifth of the group's sales last year. The US tariffs are set to deal a hefty blow to the company just as it was getting back on its feet following a torrid period triggered by the end of its lucrative tie-up with US rapper Kanye West. The group developed the popular Yeezy line of trainers with West but halted the collaboration in late 2022 after the rapper sparked anger with anti-Semitic outbursts online. Adidas was robbed of a vital revenue stream and left saddled with a mountain of Yeezy trainers, which it had to offload at knockdown prices, leading it to slump to its first annual net loss in over three decades in 2023. But it has turned a corner under Gulden, who has focused on promoting Adidas's classic trainers. The company logged a better-than-expected net profit of 428 million euros ($488 million) from January to March, with sales rising to 6.1 billion euros. Gulden said that, after such a strong performance, the group would typically hike its outlook but had decided against doing so due to the tariff uncertainty. The group stuck to its guidance, predicting operating profit of 1.7 billion to 1.8 billion euros for the year. However, the CEO added that Adidas recognised that there were "uncertainties that could put negative pressure on this later in the year". The affects of US tariffs in the second quarter "should not be huge", he said, but added that the "impact will then come in (the third quarter) for the US market". The sports outfitter would try to compensate for the uncertainty in the United States by "delivering even better results in the rest of the world", Gulden added.
