The Archdiocese of Munich-Freising has committed to further supporting the queer community by creating what they have named a “diocesan network for queer pastoral care.”
Munich-Freising is one of the most recognized archdioceses in the country
The new program will offer pastoral care to queer people
17 people are qualified to serve in this position
the incorporation of queer pastoral care is a “big step,” as they hope to create a “safer space” for queer people in the Church
said sthat queer people continue to face discrimination
which is opposed to the message of Jesus and Christianity
Being a Christian means supporting people who “are wronged,” she added
welcomed the new initiative as a “very good” step towards queer inclusion
Although he does not expect “that gays and lesbians will come knocking on the church doors,” he does believe that the initiative will reach people who “have been driven away from the church for decades
observed that grassroots church members are more progressive than Church institutional leaders
He believes that the Church’s text “must be reviewed in light of today’s insights
and ethics.” This can occur through the Synodal Committee’s dialogue on the future of the Church
The Archdiocese of Munich-Freising is taking necessary steps in supporting and including queer people into Catholic life
Queer pastoral care allows one’s sexual and gender identities to be seen
we must continue to evaluate the Church on a systems level to make sure that teachings are LGBTQ+ affirming

Even though he’s quick to say he obviously enjoys real beer more, Tobias Zollo says he savors alcohol-free beer when he’s working or eating lunch. It has the same taste but fewer calories than a soft drink, he said, thanks to the brewery’s process of evaporating the alcohol.
“You can’t drink beer every day — unfortunately,” he joked last week at the Bavarian state brewery in the German town of Freising, about 20 miles north of Munich.
Zollo isn’t alone in his appreciation for the sober beverage. Alcohol-free beer has been gaining popularity in recent years as beer consumption shrinks.
At Weihenstephan, which was founded as a brewery in 1040 by Benedictine monks, nonalcoholic wheat beer and lager now make up 10% of the volume. The increase over the last few years, since they started making alcohol-free drinks in the 1990s, mirrors the statistics for the rest of Germany’s beer industry.
“The people are unfortunately — I have to say that as a brewer — unfortunately drinking less beer,” Zollo said Friday, the day before Oktoberfest officially started. “If there’s an alternative to have the crisp and fresh taste from a typical Weihenstephan beer, but just as a nonalcoholic version, we want to do that.”
Even at Oktoberfest — arguably the world’s most famous ode to alcohol — alcohol-free beer is on the menu.
All but two of the 18 large tents at the festival offer the drink through the celebration’s 16 days. The sober beverage will cost drinkers the same as an alcoholic beer — between 13.60 and 15.30 euros ($15.12 and $17.01) for a 1-liter mug (33 fluid ounces) — but save them from a hangover.
“For people who don’t like to drink alcohol and want to enjoy the Oktoberfest as well, I think it’s a good option,” Mikael Caselitz, 24, of Munich said Saturday inside one of the tents. “Sometimes people feel like they have more fun with alcohol, which is not a good thing because you can also have fun without alcohol.”
He added: “If you want to come and drink alcohol-free beer, nobody will judge you.”
This year marked the first time an alcohol-free beer garden opened in Munich. “Die Null,” which means “the zero” in German, served nonalcoholic beer, mocktails and other alcohol-free drinks near the city’s main train station this summer but was scheduled to close a few day before Oktoberfest opened.
Walter König, managing director of the Society of Hop Research north of Munich, said researchers have had to breed special hops varieties for alcohol-free beer. If brewers use the typical hops for alcohol-free beer, the distinct aroma gets lost when the alcohol is reduced during the brewing process.
But customers don’t care about that, König said Friday as he prepared for Oktoberfest.
“They only want to know that what they are tasting is as good as traditional beers with alcohol,” he said.

THE oldest brewery in the world is still creating beer
more than 1,200 years since it first started
What's more, visitors can head to the brew house in Freising, Bavaria, Germany and sample its goods while looking out across stunning local countryside
The Weihenstephan Brewery is officially the oldest continuously-operating brewery
Its story begins in 725CE when a man called Saint Corbinian founded a Benedictine monastery
By 768CE that monastery had started brewing its own beer using hops from a nearby hop garden
The local monks continued to brew that beer throughout the next few hundred years
marking the official beginning of the Weihenstephan Monastery Brewery
it has continued to make the popular Weihenstephaner beers
which are sold all over the world to this day
Guests can visit and look around the brewery's museum before learning about the brewing process and joining in with a guided tasting session
Tastings in the summer can take place on a beer garden out the back overlooking the town and its surrounding Bavarian countryside, with the brewery sitting atop the Weihenstephan Hill.
which visitors have said are every bit as tasty as the beers
A similar experience can be found in the town in the Bräustüberl Weihenstephan, which serves the local tipple along with Bavarian snacks and meals every day
Included in its offerings is another local delicacy
Sometime in the 1950s, Mrs. Katharina Eisenreich, a local landlady, decided to mix camembert cheese with some spices and onions
These 10 countries have the cheapest pints in the world
Source: How to Order a Beer in Any Country in the World by Fraser Metcalf
The Bräustüberl website claims that it has since "become indispensable in Bavarian beer gardens" and has also "developed into a classic Bavarian bread speciality"
The industrial production of obazd'n for the world market still takes place exclusively in Bavaria
Getting to Freising is pretty straightforward for Brits, who need only to take the S1 train from Munich
A night in the town for two can be booked from £71 but the visit is worth it if you're interested in sampling some traditional and historic German beer
The brewery brags on its website about "one of the most innovative" breweries as well as being the oldest
It continues: "Behind the historic walls of our brewery lies modern brewing equipment and technology
"This commitment to quality and innovation
and nearly a thousand years of brewing experience allows us to produce premium beers for all to enjoy."
One visitor wrote of their visit on TripAdvisor: "The Brewery Weihenstephan met us with unique atmosphere and hospitality
You must go there if you like a beer and Bavaria!"
Another said: "The beer was wonderful as we expected
A third added: "One of the best brewery tours we’ve ever been on - very well organised
Meanwhile, this German town is home to canal tours and a unique smoked beer
And this historic riverside town is home to Britain's oldest brewery.

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI returned to the Vatican on Monday after a four-day visit to his ailing elder brother in their native Germany in what was his first trip out of Italy since he resigned as pope
flew from Munich to Rome aboard an Italian air force plane
who said it was a moment 'œof happiness and melancholy,'ť news agency dpa reported
Benedict returned to his home in the Vatican gardens in the early afternoon
It was his first trip outside Italy in over seven years
The 93-year-old retired pontiff arrived in Germany on Thursday to be with his 96-year-old brother
The two brothers have long been close and were ordained priests on the same day
Benedict greeted old neighbors and prayed at his parents' grave
Regensburg Bishop Rudolf Voderholzers said Germans saw Benedict in all his frailty during the brief visit
saying it was clear the retired pope was himself 'œnear his end.'ť
But his thoughts are fully clear; his memory and his powers of deduction are phenomenal.'ť
Voderholzer noted that for nearly every aspect of his life
but he praised Benedict for allowing his frailty to be seen
but also humility to put yourself in the hands of other people
It was clear to him that he could not be hidden entirely,'ť he said after Benedict had left
Benedict has lived at a monastery on the Vatican grounds since shortly after his 2013 retirement
Elected to the papacy in 2005 to succeed St
the former Joseph Ratzinger was the first pontiff in 600 years to resign the post
10,744 Catholics formally withdrew from the Church in the German Archdiocese of Munich and Freising in 2019
the first time that annual departures had surpassed the 10,000 mark since records began
CNA Staff, May 26, 2020 / 08:00 am (CNA).- A record number of people left the Church in the German Archdiocese of Munich and Freising last year
The Munich statistical office told CNA Deutsch
May 26 that 10,744 Catholics formally withdrew from the Church in 2019
It noted that this was a fifth higher than in 2018
Statisticians said this was the first time that annual departures had surpassed the 10,000 mark since records began
the 66-year-old Archbishop of Munich and Freising
announced in February that he would not stand for re-election as president of the German bishops’ conference
He cited his age and his desire to spend more time in his archdiocese
In March, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Bavaria’s public-service broadcaster, reported that people gave a variety of reasons for leaving
including a desire to stop paying church tax
the clerical abuse scandal and the position of women within the Church
The Church in Germany is largely funded through a tax collected by the government
If an individual is registered as a Catholic then 8-9% of their income tax goes to the Church
The only way they can stop paying the tax is to make an official declaration renouncing their membership of the Church
They are no longer allowed to receive the sacraments or a Catholic burial
While the number of Catholics abandoning the faith has increased steadily since the 1960s, the Church’s income has risen. In 2018, the Church’s income rose to 6.64 billion euros, while 216,078 people left the Church, according to a report by the German bishops’ conference
Last year the German bishops announced plans for a two-year “Synodal Way,” bringing together lay people and bishops to discuss four major topics: the way power is exercised in the Church; sexual morality; the priesthood; and the role of women
They said the process would end with a series of “binding” votes — raising concerns at the Vatican that the resolutions might challenge Church teaching and discipline
In June, Pope Francis sent a 28-page letter to German Catholics urging them to focus on evangelization in the face of a “growing erosion and deterioration of faith.”
“Every time an ecclesial community has tried to get out of its problems alone
it has ended up multiplying and nurturing the evils it wanted to overcome,” he wrote
In September, the Vatican sent a letter to the German bishops declaring that their plans for the synod were “not ecclesiologically valid.”
After a back and forth between the bishops’ conference and Vatican officials, the first synodal assembly took place in Frankfurt at the end of January. The second meeting is expected to go ahead
In an interview May 22 with Der Spiegel, Cardinal Marx discussed his tenure as bishops’ conference president and his new book “Freiheit” (Freedom)
I did not like the fact that after the Second Vatican Council old ceremonies and images were abolished in many places,” he explained
“Traditions are also something important.”

Pope Francis to return to window overlooking St
UN chief says pandemic should inspire ‘new unity and solidarity’
Binding votes raising concerns at the Vatican that the resolutions might challenge Church teaching and discipline will likely remain ‘raising concerns’ and nothing more
Germany fits the model of the Cardinal Kasper papal endorsed polygonic dream Church
now surprisingly after years of cautious correctness Cardinal Gerhard Muller perceive this as signatories to Vigano’s recent letter that addresses globalization
Polygonia had its beginnings in Amazonia as was foreseen
How pathetic have German hierarchy following Cardinal Marx’ leadership become raising the religious tax while Catholics are leaving in Apostasy droves
How many would return if Cardinal Carlo Martini SJ’s nefarious vision of Synodalism
a disease like vector of radical change embraced by prize pupil then Cardinal Bergoglio
then introduced by now demurely complacent Pope Francis were not put into irreversible effect
if not vigorous stolid yes obligatory address and resistance
“He cited his age and his desire to spend more time in his archdiocese
The whole system of the government involvement in the “church tax” system is disgraceful; and having to renounce the Church in order to decide where to offer one’s money is at least as bad if not worse
given that who knows how much of the money goes to things that are un- if not anti-Catholic
Pope Francis should perhaps follow Pope St
Pius X’s actions regarding France and funding
sodomy destroys…..and the German church supports sodomy
You’ve just cast judgement upon yourself
suddenly become ‘sodomites’ seeking to ravage two angels
Well if they were from Sodom that’s kinda moot
If you are from Sodom – you are by definition a ‘Sodom’ite
Let’s try the modern ‘term’- ‘gay’
ALL the people of Sodom were gay – young and old
Must have been something in the unholy water ?
suddenly become ‘sodomites’ seeking to ravage two angels ?”
They had given themselves over to sin for a long time; Genesis 13″13 says 1″And the men of Sodom were very wicked
and sinners before the face of the Lord beyond measure.”
“Gay” is a word that means bright and cheerful and has been misappropriated to describe perversion
“If you are from Sodom – you are by definition a ‘Sodom’ite.”
having been destroyed for its wickedness; there were not even ten righteous men in the city
but the all men were involved in the attempt to rape the angelic visitors
“Must have been something in the unholy water ??”
In spite of your efforts to be flippant and trivialize their sin (not to mention removing the responsibility from them by blaming it on the water)
Well the German Bishops have made it clear they have no respect for Catholic Doctrine and intend to become devotees of the zeitgeist
Why on earth would anyone expect the formerly faithful to believe that religious observance has any value to their lives or human society generally
Is the Catholic Church in the midst of a schism
My family has origins in Baveria and they were staunch Catholics
I don’t believe that at their time in Munich there was forced tithing via tax
the following admits that the hierarchy knew of this disgrace
“If an individual is registered as a Catholic then 8-9% of their income tax goes to the Church
They are no longer allowed to receive the sacraments or a Catholic burial”
“Last year the German bishops announced plans for a two-year “Synodal Way,” bringing together lay people and bishops to discuss four major topics: the way power is exercised in the Church; sexual morality; the priesthood; and the role of women”
Women are not second class citizens in the church
People who think about these issues carefully understand that men and women can be ontologically equal but have different functional roles in the church
that means that the German State is collecting taxes for being Catholic
Lutheran or Jewish but not for being an Atheist
I wonder when the Liberals in this country adopt the same format
I actually had no info about when that began in Germany but just googling around suggests their church tax has been around since the earlier 1900’s
scriptural idea & I practise that myself but it would be nice if parishes could utilize it in stewardship programs to provide tuition-free Catholic education to every family who participates
GA that does that & I’m sure there are others
Perhaps then Germans might feel their tax isn’t being wasted
except in the 1930s when Hitler hypnotized the populace with a diatribe of hate against the Jews
Some dots can be connected when my mother’s family came from Ireland
a country whose government was subservient to the Catholic Church
Germany was an autocracy while Ireland was subjected to a Theocracy
It took a world war to restore Germany to a democracy
Ireland was restored by Mary Robinson a political stalwart for equal rights
I consider that forced taxation is analogous to taxation without representation
Mary Robinson is pro-contraception and pro-abortion
She did not “restore” Ireland; Ireland was destroyed by her and people like her
The “right” to butcher babies is evil
Cardinal Marx and his acolytes should resign in disgrace for their destruction of the Catholic Church in Germany
The German Hierarchy has been a disastrous failure
and yet they want to force the Church in the rest of the world to follow their poor example
I don’t know much about “forced tithing”
but I wouldn’t join the church in the first place if they “told” me what I had to “donate”
the church has become so secular that I only give directly to my own Parish
I stopped giving for almost all 2nd collections about 2 years ago
& will never support any “bishop’s initiatives” or CINO charities again – like CRS (which pushes contraception & abortion)
Point two – we’ve become the church of “nice”
Our “leaders” no longer preach the Gospel
they preach “accept everyone & no evangelization”; “mother earth is mad at us”; “sodomy is ok”; “abortion isn’t the pre-eminent social issue of our time”
They raid the Peter’s Pence charity (& others
I’m sure) for their own selfish purposes
They allow so-called Catholic schools to hire people who aren’t true to the faith
while also covering up murals of great people like Christopher Columbus & even George Washington (see ND & GWU)
The pope allows wolves like James Martin to spread the satanic alphabet-crowd agenda
while he himself worships pachamama & “mother earth”
The bottom line is that the church of today isn’t the church of God anymore
who prey on seminarians & have all but driven the good nuns out
while espousing female deacons & even priests
& have been heading that way since Vatican 2
It won’t change until God Himself sets us straight
or the church hierarchy comes to its collective senses & gets away from the “mother earth” nonsense & back to saving souls & faithfully leading the people
Not sure whose teachings are more detrimental to the Diocese of Munich
Seems like Reinhard is on well on the way to outdo Karl in terms of getting people away from the “opium of the masses…”
Well unless Germans come together and look at the future on their heritage,by 2050 there will be more Muslims than Christians in Germany.Hope those leaving will be happy with the Islamic Republic of Germany which is in the making

New connection between Garching and Freising
Just in time for the beginning of the winter semester at the universities
the new MVV express bus line X660 started on October 1
Thanks to the new connection passengers can travel with just a few stops from the Garching Research Campus to the Weihenstephaner Berg in Freising in just over half an hour
The new X660 express bus line connects the two university locations in Garching and Freising quickly and directly
It runs every 40 minutes from Monday to Friday from 5.25 a.m
The journey between the two TUM locations is only about half an hour
The line starts at the Garching-Forschungszentrum underground station
There are intermediate stops at three stops in Dietersheim
several stops are then served: Schlüterstraße
Am Staudengarten and Weihenstephaner Berg as the end point of the line
"This line was a matter close to our hearts," said Freising's District Administrator
at a press conference on the commissioning on Friday
“It's great that we can put the bus into operation today
not only for the 3,000 or so students who commute between Weihenstephan and Garching
but also for the many people who“ live in Freising and work in Garching or Munich - or vice versa."

turning and grinding operations all use lubricants to prevent work pieces and tools from overheating and from excess wear
Standard lubricants today are based on mineral oil
This has drawbacks: fossil mineral oils come from finite resources
transport relatively little heat away from the work piece
All of this calls for extreme technical efforts
So there's a need for alternative lubricants
Renewable raw materials as a lubricant additive
Michael Menner from the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Freising sounds simple as well as surprising: lubricate with water
we have been looking at the issue of cooling lubricants for some considerable time"
"In two projects supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
we have successfully replaced oil with water
One surprising thing we found was that water is no worse a lubricant than oil
the key to it all being the additives." Adding natural polymers to water can dramatically improve its lubricating properties
The Freising-based researchers set about testing renewable raw materials such as celluloses
starches or bacterial polysaccharides and improving their use as lubricant additives
Their aim: to make water more viscous by adding biopolymers
For the idea to become a marketable product
other partners were brought on board: the Institute for Machine Tool Engineering and Production Technology at the University of Braunschweig
and Carl Bechem GmbH - a lubricant manufacturer from Hagen
was improved by adding water-soluble additives so it could be used as an anti-corrosion agent
That's how it meets the requirements during processing: withstanding high temperatures and shearing stresses
Benefits: Easy on the environment and on gentle to the skin
In addition to the significantly lower impact on the environment and the high raw material efficiency
the new lubricant also offers technological benefits
The processed components are also easier to clean
This cuts costs and improves the cost-efficiency of the entire production process
Converting to the new lubricant is very easy for companies to carry out"
the same machine tool circulation systems can be used." In addition
the use of the aqueous lubricant improves occupational health and safety and hygiene: no formation of oil mists
it smells better and is gentler on the skin

According to an exclusive report published by CORRECTIV
the weekly newspaper Zeit and public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk
a lawyer representing an abuse victim from Bavaria filed a lawsuit last weekend in the Traunstein Regional Court against Peter H.
as well as several church officials and institutions
represented by Vicar General Christoph Klingan and former Pope Benedict XVI
allegedly sexually abused several children and youth in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising
Senior church officials affiliated with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger at the time accepted the pedophile priest Peter H
in 1980 into the archdiocese and didn’t prevent his contact with young people
had already been discovered committing sexual assault in the city of Essen on several occasions
with a “basic narcissistic disorder with pederasty and exhibitionism.” In 1986
was sentenced to probation for the abuse of several juveniles
Because the statute of limitations has passed for most of the acts of abuse
Berlin criminal defense attorney Andreas Schulz
is resorting to a legal trick: He has filed an action for a declaratory judgement
Although it may not result in criminal prosecution
it could possibly deliver a declaration of the church’s guilt
His client is hoping that a secular court will determine that H.
sexually assaulted him and is therefore “obligated to compensate him for the damage,” according to the 69-page complaint
“His aim is also to have a secular court determine culpability for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
in his parish work from his position of responsibility
even though the archdiocese of Munich and Freising were aware of H.’s sexual assaults.” The complaint alleges that Ratzinger
“had knowledge of all the circumstances and
countenanced the fact that this priest was a repeat offender.”
The evidence is overwhelming in the case of Peter H
Internal church proceedings established the priest’s culpability in 2016
sexually abused several teenagers in the 1990s
The decree also discusses a breach of duty by the church superiors responsible at the time
A January 2022 report on abuse in the Munich diocese also recognized the shared culpability of church superiors within the archdiocese
The plaintiff is using the decree and the January abuse report as the basis for taking action against the former pope
as well as against Cardinal Friedrich Wetter
The question as to whether the pope emeritus can be held responsible for the assaults is disputed
Experts believe the lawsuit has a chance if the church refrains from invoking the statute of limitations
as it has already done in the internal church proceedings
Zeit and Bayerischer Rundfunk that he did not intend to file a petition invoking the statute of limitations
A spokesperson for the Archdiocesan Ordinariate in Munich asked for understanding “that the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising does not comment on ongoing legal proceedings.” The pope emeritus had not responded to a request for comment by the time our article went to press
the church would not be ordered to pay damages
but it could come under further pressure to reconsider its stance on paying compensation to victims of abuse

after he had been fired from his job as a counselor at a Bavarian spa town
the priest at the center of the German Catholic Church scandal paid a visit to the man who had been his therapist in Munich when the troubles began back in the 1980s
Werner Huth describes his former patient as now being a “broken old man and very depressed.” But
“the priest still sees himself as a victim.”
Huth paints a portrait of the priest known as Father H.
accused of sexually abusing boys in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising
and I repeatedly warned church officials in the 1980s that he shouldn’t be allowed to work with children or young people.” Dr
Huth says the priest came to him in 1980 after he was transferred to Munich to undergo therapy
Ratzinger approved the transfer from Essen to Munich and the decision to give Father H
housing in the Munich diocese to undertake therapy
“A Jesuit father in Essen sent me a letter telling me about Father H.’s pedophilia and the priest then approached me directly,” says Dr
refusing to acknowledge what he did was wrong
was a pedophile — there’s no doubt about it — and he was also a gifted actor,” Dr
recalling the fact that the priest boasted that he was a budding actor as a child
(See the Catholic school sex scandal in Ireland.)
Such were his concerns about the priest’s pedophilic tendencies that Dr Huth said he set three conditions when he started treating Father H: that he shouldn’t be allowed to work with children
(because he allegedly committed the acts of abuse when he was drunk)
someone who could supervise him at all times
The doctor said he made these requirements clear to church officials during a number of conversations
including an auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising
never fulfilled these conditions,” says Huth who treated him in group therapy sessions from 1980 to 1992
was convicted of sexually abusing minors in 1986
Afer receiving an 18-month suspended prison sentence and paying a fine
But Huth says the priest told the group during therapy sessions that he operated in the parish and kept away from children
“He was a good liar,” says Huth
(How damaged is the Papacy amid the sex scandal in Catholic Europe?)
Huth says he received a call from a church official who told him that Father H
the priest worked as a curate and parish administrator in the picturesque Bavarian town of Garching an der Alz
where he had regular contact with children and had supervised 150 altar-boys
The official had stumbled across old files which raised alarm bells
“I was horrified as there was no way this man should have been near children,” Dr
transferred to the Bavarian spa town of Bad Tölz where he was put in charge of counselling services for tourists and visitors
the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung revealed the priest’s history of sexual abuse
The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising admitted that he’d breached a church order banning him from working with children or youths and said in a statement that “serious mistakes” were made in the 1980s
stepped down after the archdiocese said he assumed responsibility for “grave errors.”
Germany’s sexual abuse scandal first broke in January when it was alleged that two former priests molested pupils at Berlin’s Jesuit school
dozens of people have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse levelled against former priests
The scandal has even spread to the famous Regensburg Cathedral choir — which was led by the Pope’s brother Georg Ratzinger for 30 years — and there’ve been up to a hundred allegations of abuse at a boarding school run by Benedictine monks in Ettal
Germany’s Catholic Church has pulled out all the stops to convince parishioners that it’s doing everything to prevent such abuse cases from happening again
It is setting up a nationwide hotline for victims of abuse on March 30 and has pledged to step up preventive measures and work closely with state prosecutors
While there’s been feverish speculation in the German media about the Pope’s role in the Father H affair
Huth says he thinks that Archbishop Ratzinger did not know about the case
simply because it seems unlikely that he’d be aware of everything that happened in his diocese
But the psychiatrist criticised church officials for turning a blind eye to the priest’s history of abuse by not launching a thorough investigation
“Senior figures in the Catholic Church covered up the allegations of abuse in order to protect Father H and the church’s image,” Dr
‘unworldly’ attitude towards issues of sexuality.”

The new children's centre designed by Bär Stadelmann Stöcker Architects for a site in the north of the Bavarian town comes as a compact
slab-type wooden structure with the longitudinal facades facing north and south. Timber studs and largely prefabricated solid wood walls form the basis of the structural system
On all sides the elevations are clad in elements in pressure-impregnated silver fir
rounded off with blue accentuation and large wooden windows
Sheltered outdoor areas to the south are provided in the form of a first-floor balcony and a covered terrace at ground level
The building is accessed at its short sides
The entrance from the west leads into a collective hallway that is used as a waiting area and likewise also serves as a multi-purpose space for events
Bär Stadelmann Stöcker Architects have divided the new building along horizontal lines with a central corridor following on from the entrance hallway
The result is a programmatic separation of the ground floor into a northern half given over to offices
and a southern half made up of group rooms
The interior is also organised by the architects into a crèche made up of three groups on the ground floor
and a kindergarten with five units on the first floor
where the corridor additionally forms a shared play area
the interior is completely executed in wood
and like the nap areas and exits to the outside are oriented to each group room
In choosing the materials for the interior
Bär Stadelmann Stöcker Architects consciously opted for the sustainable raw material of timber
Complemented by blue colours and robust linoleum flooring
the choice of warm silver fir makes the day care centre a pleasant and protective

was er tut."
Schon während Zlofs Haftzeit sei dort "Dauerthema" gewesen

Healthcare has come on leaps and bounds in the last few decades
but a 400-year-old prosthetic discovered on a skeleton proves that not all of our ideas are new
Admittedly the materials and the process used to attach the prosthetic were probably a little less sterile and a little more painful a few hundred years ago, but the creation of a substitute hand is impressive all the same
The discovery of the prosthetic was made during pipeline work in a grave in the Bavarian town of Freising, near the parish church of St George in Germany
Images released by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Protection show a skeleton lying in the ground
with its arms crossed in front of its body
but it was the remains of the left hand in particular that caught the attention of archeologists
the office described the find as 'something special'
the prosthetic was still attached to the remains of the left hand
and is believed to have once been covered with leather
Inspection of the skeleton indicates that the fingers were amputated when their owner was still alive
Dr Walter Irlinger, head of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Protection
explained that the prosthetic added four fingers to the owner's amputated hand
ring and little fingers are individually formed from sheet metal and are immobile," he said
"The finger replicas lie parallel to each other
Presumably the prosthesis was made with straps [to be tied] on the stump of the hand."
The remains of gauze-like cloth found inside the prosthetic are believed to have acted as a cushion to protect the remains of the hand
Analysis of the remains led the archaeologists to believe that they belonged to a man who lived sometime between 1450 and 1620
he is thought to have been aged between 30 and 50 when he died
His death came around a time when there was a higher need for amputations and demand for prosthetic technology due to conflict across Central Europe
Similar prosthetics have previously been discovered around Europe
including both static and mechanical styles
Though the discovery in Freising isn't the most complex example of prosthesis uncovered
it indicates that doctors were already thinking at that time about how they could make life easier for amputees
