For employees at the locations, Continental will strive to find individual solutions on the internal and external job market in collaboration with employee representatives.

The location is suffering from the ongoing decline in the special conveyor belt business. These special conveyor belts are a niche product, meaning production cannot be taken over by another location or region. For this reason, ContiTech has made the decision to remove this product from its portfolio.
EmailFrohburg locationGeithain and Frohburg: Both locations have for several years been experiencing a decline in demand for blow mold tools, with no prospect of significant improvement. Extensive efforts were made to restructure the portfolio, but ultimately these were not economically viable. Consequently, the plants in Geithain and Frohburg are to be closed. All 58 jobs at these locations will be affected by the planned closure.

Luca Salvadori’s father admits rules were not followed during his son’s death at the International Road Racing Event at Frohburg
Luca Salvadori wrecked Ducati Luca Salvadori lost his life during an International Road Racing Championship event in Germany last year
after veering off the circuit after a rider fell in front of him
and his father has shared further details about the accident
who took to his son’s YouTube channel to conduct a sit down interview detailing the information
admitted rules were not followed correctly and that is part of the reason for taking his son’s death to court
Salvadori was following another rider closely before that same rider was violently highsided from his machine
Salvadori had little time to adjust as he made contact with the body of the rider in front before crashing at the side of the road
The Italian slid into straw-bales which were lightly protecting trees
but that came about after barriers were not fitted correctly according to his father
Maurizio said: “Road races are licensed to be organised by the very precise rules of the international federation
but these rules were not followed during Luca’s race
I was forced to see the images of the accident as part of the action we are taking forward with the German court
“We thought we would show you the precise dynamics of the accident through a precise 3D construction
Luca closely follows the rider in front of him
goes into the sky and takes a very strange trajectory
He falls in front of Luca who is forced to move to his left and on to the grass
the bike falls and hits the barriers first
It moves them as they are not fixed per the regulations which opens a gap where Luca lands directly on straw-bale
It must be said that these air barriers are not approved
“They were not fixed to the ground as per the regulations and it seems as though they are barriers used for cycling
It must be added that straw bales which are mechanically pressed
not like the ones in the past and have been banned since 2018
I think there is little to add to this situation.”
his father also detailed a conversation which took place soon before his son’s tragic death which explained why Luca was cremated at the scene of his birth
Maurizio added: “This is one of life’s cruel jokes because in one of the last conversations with Luca I told him I wanted to be cremated
and I had given him in a very lighthearted way
Luca said it was a good choice and that I [he] would do it too
“I thought it would be right to collect all of Luca’s memorabilia
his last two bikes including the one that was in the accident and will be completely rebuilt
his trophies - his memories in a place that was suited to who he was and what he did
I thought that the right place would be the Trident Motorsport Factory where we prepare single-seater racing cars that compete in various championships.”
The court appeal against the safety element and rules being followed comes after a similar incident where Shane ‘Shakey’ Bryne
who suffered a career-ending accident in 2018
collided with barriers that were not the ones that should have been used at Snetterton.

Michael Dunlop joined forces with the Penz13.co BMW team to win the feature event at Germany’s only road race on Sunday
described as “the spare bike from Le Mans” by team boss Rico Penskofer who had run a factory supported BMW squad in the 24 hour endurance race at Le Mans a week earlier
25 year old Dunlop won a titanic battle with local star Didier Grams and Dutchman
“Didier is top of the tree around here and the boys were riding really well so it was good to get the win.” the Ballymoney man said afterwards
Dunlop had lost out to Grams (W&G Motorsport BMW Motorrad) and Fredriks (RFA Racing BMW) in the three earlier superbike races ran over the weekend and he was forced to break the lap record for the 4.75 km Saxony course to get ahead of Grams and Fredriks in the final feature race of the day after trailing off the line in third spot
The huge crowd were on their feet as he surged past the Netherlands rider with four laps to go and began to hunt down the German who had already clinched the International Road Race Championship title at the meeting
“I passed Didier at the fast left hander going up the hill.” the four times TT winner explained after the huge celebrations after the race that involved every rider in the grid stopping on the course to congratulate him
It had been a memorable way to end the day
taking his first win at Frohburg on what was his third visit to the German course
It also meant he became the fourth Dunlop to win a race in Germany
Michael’s uncle Joey won the 125cc race in 1995
his father Robert won the same race in 2004 and his elder brother William won on a superbike in 2007
The feature race has been called the Joey Dunlop Open since 2003
Biographer of John McGuinness & road racing's foremost writer & photographer
excited about the possibilities of decorating our living rooms for the holidays and our gardens for evermore
How often do we really think about how big that pretty little thing is going to get
Then a couple of years go by and that 6-footer is a 30-footer
A couple more years and it engulfs the house
it languishes until those promising green needles have turned a too-late brown
Choose a dwarf or miniature conifer that stays within the bounds of urban reality
then taken outside to a deck or patio and enjoyed the rest of the year," he says
We're not talking about the Christmas tree of your childhood
Leckey chose a range to share that hits every design note from quirky to contemporary
Dress up a tabletop with a glacially slow-growing Norway spruce
Light the living room with a brilliant yellow Scots pine
Except for transplanting into a pretty pot and moving outdoors after the holidays
maintenance can hardly be called maintenance at all
Water and fertilize when needed and transplant every four years or so
EVENTUAL SIZE 3-5 FEET 'Heddergott' Veitch fir (Abies veitchii 'Heddergott'):
you won't do much better than this little beauty that grows quite happily in a pot to about 3 1/2 to 4 feet
The soft needles coyly show their white undersides
Definitely a different kind of Christmas tree
you'll be able to bring it in for winter festivities year after year
'Green Prince' cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani 'Green Prince'):
Here is a Christmas tree for the free spirits among us
quirky little tree that dawdles into a 3-foot or maybe 5-foot natural bonsai
Happy in full sun and well-drained soil; reasonably drought-tolerant once established
'Obergaertner Bruns' Norway spruce (Picea abies 'Obergaertner Bruns'):
deep green needles and a form that is upright and slightly open
it will become a traditional cone shape and eventually top out at 3 feet
'Obergaertner Bruns' grows best in medium to full sun and moist soil
This little treasure can stay in a pot for years
and work just as beautifully in a trough garden or hillside rock garden
5-8 FEET 'Silver Mist' deodar or Himalayan cedar (Cedrus deodara 'Silver Mist'):
grow slowly into a 5- to 7-foot cone of a tree about as wide as it is tall with gracefully drooping branches
while many light- or yellow-toned conifers prefer some shade
this variety is fine in medium to full sun
'Gold Coin' Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris 'Gold Coin'):
From mid-November to mid-February this little tree is an absolute showstopping lemon yellow
the yellow fades to a pleasing light green
'Gold Coin' grows moderately during its first 3 to 4 years
and perhaps up to 12 feet in 15 to 20 years
but the new growth (called candles) can be clipped off to create a smaller
Somewhat drought-tolerant once established
8-10 FEET 'Koto Buki' Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii 'Koto Buki'):
well-mannered tree that keeps a military bearing as it obediently inches up to 10 to 12 feet over 20 years
white tips appear in late fall in time to light up the tree like tiny Christmas lights
pleasing sweep or curve in the central stem
10-12 FEET 'Morris Blue' Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis 'Morris Blue'):
you'll love how this evergreen enriches the garden year-round
A slash of white on the reverse side of the long needles gives the eventually 12-foot tree a silvery illusion that almost looks like a dusting of snow
'Morris Blue' gets 6- to 9-inch cones early in life (around 5 to 6 years old)
15 FEET AND TALLER Weeping Serbian spruce (Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'):
blue-green tree gets relatively tall (15 to 20 feet) but takes so long to do it
you'll be ready to take it out of the pot
Stays very narrow to give an often-needed vertical accent on a patio and takes up little room
they continue to grow and form a pretty little skirt that can be planted around
'Geneva' Canadian hemlock (Tsuga canadensis 'Geneva'):
Hemlocks are the most graceful trees in the woods
as is this one -- which grows up to 15 feet but not for 20 years
And because hemlocks evolved as an understory tree in the forest
they are fine in more sunlight so long as the soil is moist and well-drained
A common question when people are buying a dwarf or miniature tree
Genetics naturally determine the growth and ultimate size
but each tree is different and other things influence size: amount of sun
water and fertilizer; type of soil and how well-drained it is
Discuss requirements when you choose your tree
Christmas trees don't have to be conifers
owner of Garden Diva Designs (gardendiva.com)
green leaves: What could be more Christmasy
Compact Carolina cherry laurel (Prunus caroliniana 'Compacta'):
An 8- to 10-foot shrub with a shape very like a traditional Christmas tree
shiny green foliage will hold up heavy ornaments and be a perfect foil for lights and garlands
Buy several and you'll have a great outdoor screen
'Little Gem' magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem':
but in a manageable size that will live in a pot for a long time
white flowers are almost the size of its much larger relative
Crockett's suggestions: Japanese maple: (a few to choose from: Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku,' A
but imagine dripping glass or plastic icicles from the curvy
Dwarf ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba dwarf cultivars):
With the same fascinating scalloped fans of large ginkgos
the dwarf cultivars mean anyone can have one
Look for multi-branched plants for a more exciting indoor display
rolled leaves; 'Autumn Gold,' 12-15 feet; 'Jade Butterflies,' 12-15 feet)
'Sky Pencil' Japanese holly (Ilex crenata 'Sky Pencil'):
dark-green leaves along stiffly upright limbs
Crockett suggests lining up several in front of the fireplace and decorating with tiny white lights
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A LIVING CHRISTMAS TREE
trees can grow happily in pots for many years
Most of the trees recommended in this story are unusual and probably not available at big-box stores and many nurseries
though they will have more traditional live Christmas trees
which range from about $40 to $150 depending on size and variety
Laura Crockett recently saw three varieties of dwarf ginkgos there
strawberry tree and compact Carolina cherry laurel will be easier to find
Call around before going to nurseries to avoid disappointment

A video has been published showing a reconstruction of the crash which led to the death of Luca Salvadori.
Luca Salvadori Maurizio Salvadori, father of the Italian motorcycle racer Luca Salvadori, has posted a video to his late son’s YouTube channel featuring a reconstruction of the crash which led to his death.
The video was posted at the end of December and includes an English-dubbed monologue from Maurizio Salvadori.
The video description reads as follows: “Today, on the last Monday of a 2024 that has deeply affected us, Maurizio has decided to share an important update with you.
“This video was created to answer your many questions, to clarify the dynamics of Luca's accident and to share some reflections on the future of his channel and the community he created.
“Maurizio will talk to you about the choices made to honor Luca's memory, the project to create a space dedicated to him in the Trident Motorsport factory and his legal battle to ensure greater safety in road motorcycle competitions.
“He will also ask you for an opinion on a truly important initiative: the Foundation in Luca's name, to help motorcyclists who are victims of accidents.”
Salvadori had been racing in the International Road Racing Championship for the first time in 2024, when he crashed at the Frohburg circuit in Germany in September.
The reconstruction shown in the video shows how Salvadori crashed when trying to avoid a rider who fell in front of him in a corner that he entered at 250kph (155mph).
Salvadori hit the rider and fell himself, heading towards a barrier that was placed around some trees, and which was perpendicular to the track in the place where Salvadori’s bike hit it.
Maurizio Salvadori says that because the fences that made up the barrier were not fixed in place, they were able to be moved out of the way by Salvadori’s bike, meaning that when Salvadori himself reached the barrier he went straight through the gap and straight into the straw bales behind.
Mr. Salvadori said his son reached the barrier at a speed of 102kph (63mph), and suggested that the barriers used in this case were not fit for purpose.
“It must be said that these air barriers are not approved,” Mr. Salvadori said. “They were not fixed to the ground per regulations, and it seems that they are protective barriers used for cycling races.”
He continued: “It must be added that straw bales — which are mechanically pressed, not like those used in the past — have been banned since 2018. I think there is little to add to this situation.”
This is also making itself felt at supplier Continental and its plastics technology division Contitech
In view of the crisis in the automotive industry
Continental is planning plant closures at its plastics technology division Contitech in four federal states
The plan is to discontinue production in Bad Blankenburg (Thuringia)
Stolzenau (Lower Saxony) and Moers (North Rhine-Westphalia)
as well as toolmaking at the twin site in Frohburg and Geithain (Saxony)
the activities of the future independent Original Equipment Solutions (OESL) business unit at the Hamburg site are to be scaled back
As part of the planned independence of Continental's Automotive division
a production line is also to be relocated from the Contitech site in Hanover to an automotive site
we are reacting to a changed market situation that is characterized by a strong and sustained decline in demand in some customer industries," said Continental Executive Board member Philip Nelles
developments in the automotive industry and lignite mining in Europe present us with challenges."
The aim is to make the planned measures as socially responsible as possible and to enable as many employees as possible to transfer to other parts of the company
There was strong criticism of the corporation's plans from the Continental Rubber General Works Council and the chemical trade union IGBCE
"We are deeply shocked and dismayed," said Matthias Tote
He called for a financially strong safety net for his colleagues
some of whom worked in structurally weak regions
IGBCE Group representative Michael Linnartz said that Continental had been lurching from one restructuring to the next for years
The workforce has had to make concessions time and again
"And yet every few months the company comes around the corner with new plans for cuts
destructive and demotivating," said Linnartz
Continental surprised with a significant increase in profits
the bottom line profit rose to 486 million euros in the third quarter
almost 63 percent higher than a year earlier
The Group was able to make noticeable gains both in the automotive supply sector
which was characterized by weakness in the industry
Contitech employs around 39,000 people in 37 countries and markets worldwide
there are around 11,000 employees at over 22 locations
The division focuses on development and material expertise for products and systems made of rubber

Special moment: Gary Dunlop, son of the late Joey Dunlop, celebrates after winning his first road race recently at Killalaney. Photo: Stephen Davison/Pacemaker
The motorcycle action is centred on road racing and short circuits in Germany and England this weekend with a number of local competitors making their way to Frohburg, Scarborough and Oulton Park.
Fresh from his first road race victory at the East Coast meeting at Killalane, Gary Dunlop heads to eastern Germany to take part in the 55th Frohburg International road races, a round of the European International Road Race Championship which includes a race named after his father - the Joey Dunlop Open.
"I cannot wait to get to Frohburg, pre-race excitement is right up there with the Ulster Grand Prix," said Gary.
"I will be the fifth Dunlop to race at this particular meeting following in the wheel-tracks of my dad, uncle Robert and cousins Michael and William. I have been wanting to do this race for a long time."
William is also due to take in the German meeting, as is Manxman Dan Kneen, who had a tremendous UGP riding for the Tyco BMW team but this weekend rides for the Penz13.com outfit alongside Danny Webb.
The Scarborough Gold Cup takes place tomorrow and Sunday around the tight and undulating Olivers Mount park-circuit in the North Yorkshire seaside town where Dean Harrison and Michael Dunlop are the star attractions.
Harrison is the fastest rider in the world at present after his Ulster Grand Prix exploits while Dunlop is the Isle of Man TT lap record holder.
Dunlop won the Gold Cup in 2013 while Harrison is seeking a hat-trick having won the prestigious race in 2015 and '16.
Other riders expected to perform well at Scarborough include Davy Morgan, Derek Sheils, Paul Gartland, Ivan Lintin, James Cowton and Adam McLean.
Oulton Park is the venue for the latest round of the Thundersport GP series tomorrow and leading the local challenge is Aghadowey 19-year-old Eunan McGlinchey, who has been taking the Irish short circuit scene by storm this season and just last weekend at Bishopscourt finished 11th, second, second and third in the four David Wood Memorial Supersport races in only his second full season of tarmac racing having been a schoolboy moto-crosser in his younger days.
In the Supertwin class at Thundersport, McGlinchey went across to an earlier round at Cadwell Park in May and came away with a win and two third positions.
Also competing at Oulton will be Donegal brothers Rhys and Caolan Irwin, while the Scott Motorcycles, Coleraine Aprilia team will have Alex Taylor in the Aprilia RRV450GP races. Taylor has one hand on the championship with Rhys Irwin in a comfortable second position while Caolan lies in eighth position in the Sportsman Elite 600cc class.
The MotoGP scene switches to Motorland Aragon this weekend and, just 22 days after sustaining a broken leg while training on an Enduro bike, nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi has been declared fit to compete after a mandatory medical examination at the circuit yesterday.
Rossi will be out on his Movistar Yamaha in first practice today.
In what is turning out to be the closest MotoGP Championship for years, Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso are tied on 199 points each with Maverick Vinales a further 16 points adrift in third.
Rossi, on 157, and Dani Pedrosa, 150, are also well placed if any of the front runners should slip up this weekend before three fly-away races in Japan, Australia and Malaysia before returning for the final round at Valencia in November.

IT’S NORMALLY only teenagers that are dropped off at Castletroy College but on Saturday you can drop off your electrical waste.
It is being organised by 200 second year students. They are asking the entire Monaleen/Castletroy and wider community to bring any household electrical items for recycling this Saturday, March 2 from 10am to 4pm. It is part of a project on sustainability in technology, entitled e-mining.
“Please support us, second year students, as we take action to raise awareness of the issue of critical raw materials,” they say.
The pupils have also received talks from geologists, Dell employees and European Recycling Platform. The project is an interdisciplinary unit of work where second year students are studying the three pillars of sustainability, economic, environmental and social across five different subject areas over a period of four weeks.
Teacher in science, geography, business, CSPE and metalwork classes have designed this integrated unit as part of a pilot project under the guidance of the inspectorate in the department of education and science. The purpose of this design is to give students a broader, more integrated and enhanced learning experience.
Lisa Kiely, physics teacher, said: “All 200 of our second years have been involved in this project and various classes have taken on different roles in marketing our event and developing awareness of the issue of critical raw materials both inside the school and across the wider community.” A research team from UL will also be running a reuse research project.
So call down to Castletroy College on Saturday and support these environmentally conscious students by dropping off everything from washing machines to toasters to computer monitors to batteries and much more.

Miniature Tuam Chairs will be dotted around the town next week as part of the You Are Here community art project.
The event was scheduled to take place on Wednesday as reported in our print edition, but has been re-scheduled to Tuesday December 8.
The artists, David Lilburn and Jan Frohburg, completed the first phase with an artists' map of the town and models of the Tuam chair in the Library earlier this year.
Derek Sheils will line-up in the Penz13 BMW Motorrad Motorsport team for TT 2018.
Manxman Dan Kneen earned the team’s first TT podium finish and Michael Rutter, Danny Webb and Alessandro Polita achieved multiple race wins and podiums in the IRRC this year.
After Kneen’s contract expired and he moved to Tyco BMW, team principal Rico Penzkofer moved quickly to snap up Sheils who had deputised for the ill Kneen at the Joey Dunlop Open event at Frohburg in Germany earlier this season.
Sheils will be provided with the latest BMW machinery in Superstock and Superbike configurations for the TT as well as the 300 Corners of Gustav Havel event in Czech Republic, Imatranajo in Finland, the Joey Dunlop Open in Frohburg, Germany and the prestigious Macau Grand Prix.
Penzkofer added: ’I didn’t know much about Derek until he joined us in Frohburg, but immediately saw that he would fit perfectly into the team and could be a good replacement for Dan Kneen. His recent Macau GP pace convinced me even more and I took the opportunity to sign him right after the race.
’In Frohburg was actually the first time he rode a BMW with all the electronics. Our suspension engineer Eric Lindemann as well as our mechanic crew pointed out that he provides very good feedback. I enjoyed working with him and therefore hope that he can help us to further establish our team in real road racing in 2018. I am sure there is a lot to come from Derek in the near future.’
