Noel Gallagher had quit the legendary Mancunian band and today (August 27) Oasis have announced their return
With Oasis confirmed to return for a huge run of stadium shows across the UK and Ireland next summer
here’s the rundown of why the band broke up in the first place
On August 28, 2009, Noel Gallagher officially quit the legendary Mancunian band following the cancellation of Oasis’ show at the Paris Rock en Seine festival that same night. The ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ singer shared a statement on Oasisinet.com at the time that read: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight
but I simply could not go on working with [singer
The band had pulled out of the Paris show just before they were due onstage, with organisers allegedly displaying a message explaining an “altercation” had caused the cancellation. It was claimed that the Gallagher brothers were involved in a fight with each other minutes before they were due to go on stage
Noel Gallagher of British rock group Oasis live at the Astoria in London
Oasis’ final show was held on August 22, 2009 at the now defunct V Festival at Weston Park and the band performed a hit-filled set that included ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’
‘Half The World Away’ and an acoustic cover of ‘Wonderwall’
“Oasis tours were always about the struggle
that was just the straw that broke the camel’s back
really,” Noel told the Sky Arts programme Noel Gallagher: Out Of The Now
he admitted his departure from the band wasn’t “a decision [he] took lightly”
I directed it and creatively it was my thing
With the benefit of hindsight it was the best thing for me and for the band,” he said
were not lauded as one of the greats of all time
There was a kind of undercurrent of: ‘Well they should really call it a day’
Last year, Liam announced the ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary tour, and revealed on X/Twitter that Noel was approached and refused to play the tour
According to the Daily Star at the time
Noel had reportedly said: “The last tour was not happy
The other fella is trying to rewrite history that it was all fucking great
He continued: “It was a fucking dreadful last year of Oasis
Whether it be in your personal or professional life
Earlier this year, Liam opened up about the split again to The Guardian and accused Noel – along with Oasis’ manager Marcus Russell
Noel had always intended to go solo but decided to blame the disbandment on Liam’s drinking rather than admit he wanted to leave the line-up
“If you want to do your little thing because you’re not getting enough attention
referring to how Noel would often play solo acoustic shows between Oasis’ touring commitments
“I’ll go to Barbados and sit on a beach for six months
“I wasn’t any different, but all of a sudden, he’s turned into Ronan Keating or some soft cunt, going: ‘We can’t have that behaviour’. Meanwhile, [these days] he’s out on tour with fucking [ex-Kasabian frontman] Tom Meighan
“And yet you won’t get back in a band with me because I’m a ‘fucking cunt’?
Today (August 27) the news was shared that the band have finally reunited following a 15 year hiatus. The band will embark on a huge stadium tour of the UK that will see them perform in Cardiff
‘OASIS LIVE 25’ is reportedly set to make a staggering £400million, and will follow the release of the expanded ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary reissue this Friday (August 30)
the band play 14 stadium dates set to take place between Cardiff
These will be the band’s only shows in Europe in 2025
but a press release states that “plans are underway for OASIS LIVE 25 to go to other continents outside of Europe later next year”
Oasis fans have been expressing their excitement over the band’s long-awaited return, and speculating over a potential headline set at Glastonbury – where the Gallaghers last topped the bill in 2004
Meanwhile, plans are also currently “underway” for further Oasis live concerts outside of Europe.
It is not yet known who will join Liam and Noel in the reformed iteration of Oasis. However, recent reports claimed “no other original Oasis member is expected to join the reunion”, and that “the members of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will step in for the concerts”
The world’s defining voice in music and pop culture: breaking what’s new and what’s next since 1952
Reports have emerged over whether Oasis fans in the UK and Ireland can look forward to additional dates
The Mirror shared today (September 1) that the band is confirmed to only perform 17 dates in the region, which have since sold out – all before flying off to continue the 2025 tour in other parts of the world
The reunited duo, comprising brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, previously confirmed that plans are underway to add tour dates in other continents after completing the UK and Ireland leg
With gigs scheduled for Manchester’s Heaton Park, London’s Wembley Stadium, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Dublin’s Croke Park, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium (and extra dates announced mid-week due to “unprecedented demand”)
fans clawed their way to get tickets on Ticketmaster yesterday morning (August 31) at 9am
To ease concerns over buying tickets in the secondhand market, Oasis have partnered with resale platform Twickets where fans can buy unwanted tickets for no more than face value (plus booking fees)
The Britpop band announced their mighty return with a slew comeback gigs on Tuesday (August 27)
it will see the Gallagher brothers perform on stage together for the first time in 16 years
The sold-out Oasis reunion 2025 UK and Ireland tour dates are:
Former drummer Tony McCaroll revealed in a recent interview that he isn’t sure if he’ll be a part of the forthcoming tour, saying: “’They haven’t reached out yet and to be honest I’m not holding my breath.”

Unsurprisingly, his vocals are the most appealing aspect of the album, with the emotional strength of his lead lines supported by subtle harmonies, as when Kwabs’s several backing vocals interlace engagingly behind his lead on “Walk”, which, depending on which source you use, has notched up between 35 and 50 million Spotify streams (whatever that means in terms of remuneration).
The rhythmic humming and tambourine “chain rattles” lend an intriguing chain-gang to “Forgiven”, underscoring the song’s theme of proud, unbowed guilt. And on the closing “Cheating on Me”, the gospel overtones in Kwabs’s delivery bring a new slant to the slow piano blues accompaniment, appropriate for a moment of self-revelation: “I fell apart when I couldn’t see I was cheating on me”.
This desire to develop as a man, and to understand the world in more rewarding ways, is an abiding theme of songs like these and “Father Figure” and “Perfect Ruin”. Happily, it’s a process that seems to be reflecting positively on Kwabs’s art, as well as his life. So maybe slow and steady really is the way to go, after all?

The last time the group played the US was during their Mezzanine XXI tour in 2019
Massive Attack have announced a handful of 2024 North American shows which are set to take place later this autumn
The iconic trip-hop group will make stops in select cities across the US in October
The newly announced shows will coincide with their upcoming performance at iii Points Festival in Miami
A post shared by Massive Attack (@massiveattackofficial)
Elsewhere, Massive Attack have recently shared details of their ‘Act 1.5’ show at Bristol Downs and its measures to reduce emissions
Details of the homecoming gig were first shared in December, when the trip-hop collective confirmed that 2024 would see them perform at an all-day “large-scale climate action accelerator event” – celebrating 25 years of climate activism for the band
The gig will take place on August 25 at Clifton Downs in Bristol, and will mark the first performance that Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja and Grant ‘Daddy G’ Marshall have played on UK soil in five years. The likes of Killer Mike, Lankum, Sam Morton and the Wild Bunch’s DJ Milo are also set to perform at the gig. Visit here to find any remaining tickets
In other news, the group recently cancelled their gig in Georgia in a protest of the “government’s attack on basic human rights”.
inviting sensuality out to the edges of his audience
Kwabs is a young, promising artist with heaps of talent, but the opportunity to perform in a space as grand and theatrical as Somerset House feels sadly squandered.
Performing with the same over-the-top attitude as a Voice contestant, the captivating tracks released online – "Perfect Ruin" in particular – are replaced with something altogether more amateurish.
That rich voice is impressive and he can certainly hold a note, but he fails to project his thick, inviting sensuality out to the edges of his audience. Instead his vocals fall short and are frequently interrupted by his enthusiastic but breathless dancing across stage.
Highlights are the demanding "Wrong or Right" and the international hit "Walk", the latter with echoes of Aloe Blacc's "I Need A Dollar": where the soul in his voice blasts through, finally, and the crowd's full attention is deserved, and paid.

will also be sharing its findings to aid in the CMA’s investigation into Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” system
The UK’s biggest consumer champion brand Which? has called for Ticketmaster to refund fans who were hit by the unexpected surge in prices for “in demand” tickets to Oasis‘ 2025 reunion tour
as the use of dynamic pricing meant the cost of tickets would go up or down without warning based on demand
This led to some fans who had been in the queue the entire day paying £355 for a ticket which was originally £135 when it came to confirm their purchase
Ticketmaster had previously clarified on their website that ticket pieces “may increase or decrease at any time
This is similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold.”
has called for Ticketmaster to “do the right thing and refund the difference to fans who may have been misled into paying huge sums for tickets that were half the price just hours earlier”
Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher of Oasis at the Melt
According to screenshots provided to Which
claims that Ticketmaster’s pages showed no signs of inflated prices being implemented during the sale
has also stated that it believes Ticketmaster’s “lack of transparency” about its dynamic pricing “could have breached the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPRs) as many fans were not informed about the increases until after they had already tried to add cheaper tickets to their baskets”
Which?’s consumer law expert said in a statement: “It seems extremely unfair that Oasis fans got up early and battled through the queues only to find that tickets prices had more than doubled from the originally advertised price
believes that Ticketmaster’s ‘in demand’ pricing practices for Oasis tickets could have breached consumer law as it appears fans weren’t properly warned about the use of ‘in demand’ pricing until far too late in the purchase journey – leading to a nasty shock at the checkout
“Oasis and Ticketmaster should do the right thing and refund fans who may have been misled into paying over the odds for tickets that would have been half the price just hours earlier.”
Noel and Liam Gallagher of rock band Oasis
Last week, Oasis shared an official statement, distancing themselves from the ‘dynamic pricing’ policy and stating that they were unaware that prices would be hiked up so drastically: “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management
and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.”
They continued: “While prior meetings between promoters
Ticketmaster and the band’s management resulted in a positive ticket sale strategy
including dynamic ticketing to help keep general ticket prices down as well as reduce touting
the execution of the plan failed to meet expectations
All parties involved did their utmost to deliver the best possible fan experience
but due to the unprecedented demand this became impossible to achieve.”
A representative for Ticketmaster commented when approached by Which?: “We are committed to cooperating with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and look forward to sharing more facts about the ticket sale with them.”
When approached for further comment by NME
a Ticketmaster spokesperson said: “Fans can resell their Oasis tickets at the full price they paid through Ticketmaster or Twickets.” The spokesperson also shared further information that tickets bought via Ticketmaster can be refunded in full for up to 24 hours after purchase via its Fan Guarantee program
NME has approached Oasis’ team for comment
following criticism about the amount in light of surged prices
The controversial use of ‘surge pricing’ for the reunion is now being investigated by the CMA – Which
has confirmed that it “will be sharing its findings with the Competition and Markets Authority for their investigation into Ticketmaster’s pricing practices”
Additionally, lawmakers are looking to introduce new legislation in the Republic of Ireland that would ban dynamic pricing
Jim O’Callaghan TD is looking to extend the Sale of Tickets (Cultural
Recreational and Sporting Events) Act that came into effect in 2021
and banned the reselling of tickets above face value
O’Callaghan said the 2021 Act “protected fans” from missing out on tickets and from “seeing those same tickets for sale on a secondary site for far more than they can afford or would be happy to pay
It now must be extended so we can protect fans from the experience of seeing ‘in demand’ tickets jumping significantly above the asking price that was initially advertised.”
Oasis have also announced “a small step towards making amends for the situation” with “a special invitation-only ballot ticket sale strategy” for two new Wembley gigs on September 27 and 28 next year
