Within the scope of a family-friendly celebration the political leader joined Dr Friedhelm Loh to lay the foundation stone - symbolically comprising an AE-type enclosure made by Rittal The future of manufacturing is digital and connected The 24 000 m^2 facility in Haiger is slated to commence operation in 2018 It will manufacture 9 000 enclosures a day by means of highly automated processes The plant is designed to efficiently manufacture any quantity of any product from the 300 standard enclosure types - in accordance with each customer's specific needs Around 25 000 metric tons of steel will be processed annually and to the people who live here." Production comprises three stages: metal-working as will machining and assembly tools from Rittal Automation Systems' portfolio Materials will be conveyed to where they are needed by means of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) will be deployed to continuously increase system availability reducing the likelihood of unplanned downtime due to wear The world of work is also changing in a new plant on a site close to Rittershausen The new facility will employ a workforce of approximately 290 the production line will be very different from that at legacy plants in the region: the high degree of automation will mean that tasks will be less manual in nature Any specialist skills required will be taught at the Loh Academy Haiger will act as a pilot and model for upgrades at other sites throughout the world As Dr Friedhelm Loh emphasised: "Digitisation of production processes is vital to the future viability of the German economy It is key to achieving the productivity needed to compete in the global marketplace and to safeguard employment for the people who live in this country." While speaking at the ceremony to mark the laying of the foundation stone for the new factory in Haiger Dr Friedhelm Loh announced that a further plant would be built in the near future on a site close to Rittershausen it will be used to manufacture large stainless-steel enclosures The intention is for the facilities to coordinate their processes and to form a production network Dr Loh drew attention to the way information technology is connecting machines and infrastructure blurring the lines between the real and virtual worlds: "In light of the huge volumes of data involved I can understand the qualms some entrepreneurs have about investing in the fourth industrial revolution But I am convinced that if we do not embrace this new era Germany will be overtaken by other countries." The Friedhelm Loh Group organised a family-friendly festival to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone for the new plant The employee event also marked the opening of the nearby Rittal Innovation Centre This offers Rittal customers an opportunity to experience solutions under real-world conditions It simulates the challenges of actual production processes taking analysis and discussion to an entirely new level The Rittal Global Distribution Centre (GDC) was also officially unveiled during the celebrations The company has invested over 40 million euros in the state-of-the-art facility which houses 24 kilometres of racking and 25 000 pallet positions The GDC will ship some 10 000 products to customers around the world on a daily basis The combined projects will make the town of Haiger a hub for ground-breaking production technology The production plant for compact enclosures is to be established directly adjacent to the high-bay warehouse and small-parts warehouse in the GDC customers attending training courses and tests in the Rittal Innovation Centre can simply take a short walk to experience first-hand how the products they have ordered are actually made Dr Friedhelm Loh stated that there were plenty of good reasons to celebrate Activities on the day included a go-cart circuit stars such as singer-songwriter Andreas Bourani and comedian Eckart von Hirschhausen took to the stage Dr Loh announced: "I am happy to be joining with you to commence a new chapter in the company's history." Haiger receives a new cultural center: On May 18 (Sunday), the Haiger City Museum will be officially opened. This modern museum succeeds the previous local museum and offers visitors a contemporary representation of the city's history. Distinguished guests are expected at the opening ceremony: Timon Gremmels (SPD), Hessian Minister of Science and Research, Arts and Culture, will officially inaugurate the museum together with Dr. Birgit Kümmel (Chairwoman of the Museums Association of Hesse), Mayor Mario Schramm, District Administrator Carsten Braun (CDU), and the museum team. In recent months, the interior of the building has been upgraded. The rooms have been painted, and new thermal insulation has been installed in some areas. A specialized company has recently set up the new, partially colored shelves and display cases. After the setup, the staff from the museum team, in collaboration with the office "ConCultura" (Bonn), will begin to arrange the displays and apply the signage. The previous local museum was housed since 1978 in the so-called "Haus Fischbach" at Market Square 2, a listed timber-framed building that was constructed after the town fire in 1723. The local museum previously showcased the history of the city of Haiger and its region. The ground floor featured a special exhibition room. On the upper floors, fossils from various geological epochs and artifacts from the Old Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age were displayed. On the second floor, there was a room with Celtic finds excavated by the University of Münster at the "Kalteiche". With the new city museum - titled "14 x Haiger" - this tradition is continued while being modernized. The exhibition concept emphasizes interactive elements and multimedia presentations to convey the history of Haiger vividly and clearly. The museum documents life and work in Haiger and its districts, focusing more on historical aspects and less on folklore compared to the former local museum. All citizens are cordially invited to participate in the opening celebration on May 18 and to explore the new city museum from 1 PM to 5 PM. A supporting program will be offered for the opening. Refreshments for guests will also be provided on Sunday. A Journey Through Time as an Exciting Book Under the motto "From Local to City Museum - A Journey Through Time in Pictures from 1914 - 2025", a book will be published to celebrate the reopening, which will be available at the museum and in the tourist information office at the market square. So for the trip to Germany with my parents While my mom and her partner stayed with her sister, my dad and I stayed at the nearest hotel, which is Hotel Bartmanns Haus this isn’t some aspirational points hotel that I expect many OMAAT readers will flock to The 26-room Hotel Bartmanns Haus is quite a big hotel for the area. For example, during my last visit to family, I stayed at the five-room Hotel Fiester Hannes Burbach-Holzhausen though that wasn’t quite as conveniently located for my purposes I booked us two rooms at Hotel Bartmanns Haus directly with the hotel and the rate was €97.50 per room per night including breakfast (really the rate was €89 It’s interesting to note that the hotel has the same prices year-round and the only difference is whether you’re staying on a weekday or weekend (we were staying on a weekday since the hotel is mostly targeted at local business travelers) Online travel agencies take huge commissions from small hotels like this (because they can) Hotel Bartmanns Haus is located right in the center Dillenburg so the nice thing is that you can walk out of the hotel and be in the center of the town though the catch is that there are only eight spots out front and they’re available on a first come I had no issues getting a spot until the last evening when we returned from dinner and the parking lot was full as you can park overnight for free on the street and we were leaving the following morning anyway You’ve gotta love how trusting small hotels are in Germany When I checked in I was just immediately given my key with no need to provide a credit card until check-out It was explained to me that I was assigned room 103 and that breakfast would be served from 6:30AM until 10AM in the breakfast room The hotel doesn’t have any other amenities to be aware of — there’s no other restaurant so with a key in hand I just headed down the hall and to my room located on the first floor (one floor up from the lobby — the hotel has one more floor above that) my room was located about halfway down the hall and on the left I was pleasantly surprised by how modern the room felt though not the most charming accommodation on earth and I liked how a candy was placed on the pillow almost like what you might expect with turndown service The desk had a couple of bottles of complimentary water (still and sparkling) though tap water is of course drinkable in Germany There was a sign on the desk with the Wi-Fi code a “make a green choice” slip to decline daily housekeeping (which is otherwise provided automatically) and a suggestion to save energy and not use the thermostat much while the hotel in theory has air conditioning it’s obviously not quite up to American standards Fortunately it was a bit cool at night during our stay but it did get a bit stuffy during the day In the closet by the entrance was a kettle with tea and instant coffee The bathroom was also back by the entrance There was body wash in a wall-mounted container The room had a peaceful view of the street just outside the hotel which didn’t cause any sort of noise issues I found the room to be quite functional and comfortable The only other thing I found noteworthy about the room was how you not only needed a key to enter the room but also needed the same key to lock the door from inside I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before in a hotel in the hallway there was a mini-fridge with beer and soda and you could help yourself to a drink for €2-3 You could pay either by leaving money on the table which you could take with you if they interested you You were also encouraged to leave any books you finished reading breakfast is served daily from 6:30AM until 10AM in the breakfast room One of the hotel employees would periodically come from the kitchen to offer coffee The breakfast buffet was roughly what you’d expect from a continental spread in Germany every summer I spent a significant amount of time with family in this part of Germany so it’s always fun and a bit surreal to return here and I always imagine how different life would be if they had just stayed here (not necessarily in a good or bad way My dad hadn’t visited this part of Germany in over a decade So he loved being able to walk around and see how things have changed which is frankly… not very charming There’s one main road that leads through town with houses on each side and there are quite a few buses and trucks that pass through here He enjoyed going by the house he grew up in… my dad hadn’t visited in a long time so it was funny to walk down the street with him and have him run into two acquaintances from decades ago just 30 seconds apart and we had a lovely dinner at a great steakhouse in Herborn another small town in the area (by far my favorite town in the area) What a treat it was to return to the Dillenburg area with both of my parents I also appreciate how you can walk right out of the hotel and be in the town of Dillenburg Don’t expect much in the way of amenities but this is as good as it gets in the area Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( passed through the lobby and ran into him we always had these great conversations with each other I stay there when I visit my hometown Dillenburg I absolutely adored this review of both the hotel and the surrounding areas; and I must say that the breakfast looked fabulously gorgeous - my idea of a perfect morning spread I do agree for your purpose the hotel was good and perhaps better than expected I have found many hotels in Germany or Austria functional room with a decent breakfast for $100 these days The only hotels over there that can get expensive are in the mountain tourist areas where $300+ is not uncommon (and many don't even have a/c) I was looking into a stay in Vienna next week and the rates were around 200€ at least at most chains I enjoy your reviews of independent or boutique hotels I appreciate you focus primarily on aspirational points redemptions I'd rather read about hotels like these than yet another Four Seasons Great review and I love the insight into your So its nice to see a report about a place like this I recognize its not practical for you to do that Most folks come to this valuable page for advice on how to make the best use of their award points But it is nice to sometimes remind folks that there are other options that shouldn't be ignored I appreciate that the buffet items were hygienically enclosed I make this point simply because a lot of hotels esp the larger chains have the food fully exposed with no covers or lids It only takes ONE buzzing fly to spread at least sixty-five known diseases to humans So many lovely towns like this in this part of Germany And that outweighs everything in my opinion It's pretty standard to offer daily housekeeping in Europe I've so far only experienced two hotels (Holmes Hotel in London and a small independent property at Isle of Man) that didn't all you had to do was put a sign on the door and your room was cleaned They are just so comfortable and you get a better sense of the town or city where they are My husband and I often stay in these types of establishments when we are over visiting That corner of Germany looks much more appealing than I anticipated given that it's not exactly on the beaten path I can't believe this hotel makes me feel more excited than any big hotel out there I would be very happy to stay at this place I often stay in similar small independent hotels all over France Have enjoyed all your reviews on the Germany trip with the three amigos It’s been great hearing about the trip - what a great family they all are It's nice to hear about small independent hotels sometimes this place looks more like 2/5 than 4/5 in my book :) Given the pricing and amenities vs quality That type of lock where you have to use the same key to lock from the inside is not uncommon in smaller hotels in Germany We stayed at the Goldener Hirsch in Bayreuth a couple of weeks ago Did the room have these awful feather filled square German cushions that Germany is known for the feathers "flee" in every direction so that you are basically resting on a piece of cloth I grew up with them in Germany and "fondly" remember them Looks like a typical family run hotel in most small German towns…..clean and functional Wouldn’t put it past the Germans to call that AC Your feedback is important in helping us keep our community safe The comments on this page have not been provided approved or otherwise endorsed by any advertiser and it is not an advertiser's responsibility to ensure posts and/or questions are answered You have successfully joined our subscriber list Editorial Disclosure: The editorial content on this page is not provided by any entity mentioned herein. Venice remained deaf to such iconoclastic pleas. Although new bridges and factories were built—mostly in Mestre, on the far side of the railway bridge linking “La Serenissima” to the mainland—strident Futurism and nascent Modernism were to make little headway in this great dowager duchess of a city. Preservation, in fact, has been the driving force of most architectural endeavour in Venice since John Ruskin drew and measured buildings in the city and railed against the arrival of steam trains in 1846. Although no fan of Palladianism, Ruskin was shocked by the demolition of the church of Santa Lucia (Andrea Palladio had made sketches for it before his death in 1580), demanded by the construction of a railway terminus facing the Grand Canal. The story of the Palazzo Fondazione Masieri takes us to the heart of the debate over Modernism in Venice. In 1952, Angelo Masieri, a 30-year-old architect, and his wife, Savina, went to Arizona to see Frank Lloyd Wright. They commissioned the legendary US architect to design a replacement for the family’s palazzo on the corner of Rio Nuovo and the Grand Canal. Wright’s design was remarkably modest and even respectful of Venetian tradition. Nevertheless, it unleashed a storm of protest. If it was built, roared Ernest Hemingway, Venice deserved to burn. Other influential voices agreed: the Wright palazzo was wrong for Venice. After certain unfortunate incidents in Delhi in December 2012, there was a blanket ban on using sunfilms or curtain in buses. As a result the ACs were not giving the desired output as required So we have delved deeper into the insulation of buses and started revamping it completely We started getting buses from our old customers and are working on the insulation part by opening up the interiors we have gone into its basic structure and insulated it holistically We were able to enhance the insulation by incorporating nitrile rubber along with the regular bus body panels and by replacing the usual thermocol material with a very robust alternative which is completely unbreakable Opening its revenue streams in the bus insulation business has provided enough cushion to offset the decline in the market volumes of bus-airconditioners Pathak admitted to the current downturn in the market but said the new vertical has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him the (bus AC) market was very sluggish and things were not going the way it should have gone many of our customers who were adding new buses to their fleet opted for our insulation & revamp solutions which are available off the shelf from the OEMs and gave it to us for improving the insulation which takes 15 days at the most We are actually seeing a pull effect from the market rather than a push and we are also addressing a major problem in the market by leading to better efficient air-conditioning in buses” HIAL is primarily targetting the staff transportation and school bus segments with its new-found business and is confident that its expertise in bus air-conditioning will provide a major thrust for it to achieve its targets Pathak affirmed: “It (insulation) actually helps the buses’ inner environment and doesn’t allow the external heat & noise to percolate inside the bus the internal chilling ambience also doesn’t get affected we are quite aware as to what the duct size should be and how the air should flow in from ACs to the passengers through the ducts By doing all this we are saving a lot of energy without compromising on the performance of the AC unit which has given us a boost in the industry.” HIAL has recently developed interiors for buses on Mahindra’s T – 16 & 25 platform were displayed to Mahindra’s sales and marketing teams and dealership network across the country during the annual dealership meet held in Goa recently Pathak feels that HIAL’s initiatives have got enormous response from the Tier II & Tier III cities With the demand for air-conditioned buses increasing rapidly in rural areas air-conditioning is no longer considered a luxury but a basic necessity for passengers Meanwhile expects a market revival only when the new government that comes to power at the Centre comes out with industry-friendly policies The company is also going slow when it comes to new products “We had launched the AC-DC units last year but are awaiting its market feedback and need to gauge the performance of the products sold We are also re-engineering the product so that it would work under the ambient conditions here We are also experimenting with our insulation technology and await the results though we are pretty sure that things will work well” It may be mentioned that Haiger India offers bus air-conditioners ranging from 8 KW to 50 KW which are suitable for application in mini with its own advanced manufacturing and detecting system including a laboratory for testing bus air-conditioners Haiger’s sales network is ably backed by fully-equipped service centers all over the country The company has nearly 40 service centers located across major highways backed by a 24×7 Haiger Helpline to ensure easier access for customers at all times I’m guessing from reading the headline 99% of OMAAT readers are saying “huh?” So yeah let’s get into a completely different kind of hotel review… After a few nights at the lovely Four Seasons Cap-Ferrat We flew Lufthansa business class from Nice to Frankfurt but I won’t be reviewing that flight since I’ve reviewed Lufthansa’s regional business class so many times which has a restaurant she has eaten at many times before mainly because all the rooms here have private bathrooms which isn’t the case at most other properties in the area This hotel is located in Burbach-Holzhausen just a few minutes from where my aunt lives in Allendorf and the room that was available for our date was the second most premium room and then we added breakfast to our rate for 19 EUR per night.Hotel Fiester Hannes check-inThere’s something so refreshing and personal about staying at a guest house rather than a hotel We could park right outside the entrance to the hotel and as we pulled up one of the incredibly friendly employees came out and confirmed who we were All of the rooms were in a building to the side of the restaurant Inside the entrance to the building was a desk with some pamphlets about the area Behind that was a common room where I guess guests could hang out and the door to our room was straight ahead The room was spread across two floors — the first floor had the living area and bathroom while the rest of the room was straight ahead a lounging chair with a blanket and pillow There was a bottle of water and a couple of glasses on the desk Toiletries were from Le Labo… just kidding and it had a pretty typical German bed — there were two twin mattresses pushed together The room had views of the other side of the building and the garden While the hotel didn’t have air conditioning it was plenty cool while we visited (in July) Both mornings we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and it was really like someone preparing breakfast for you in their home we never saw anyone else at breakfast — Germans seem to love to sleep in when on holiday There was also a garden area so one could in theory enjoy breakfast outdoors though it was a bit too cold for that early in the morning with a huge tray that had cold cuts and cheese There were also a few cereal and muesli options on the counter that we could choose from and reminded me oh-so-much of my childhood (except I’d usually beg my aunt for Nutella or ideally Eszet Schnitten (basically thin chocolate squares) chocolate absolutely should be a food group at breakfast The next morning the breakfast was served slightly differently since it was someone else working, but it was still excellent.Hotel Fiester Hannes breakfastAn awesome meal at Villa Busch in HaigerWhile we didn’t end up having a lunch or dinner at Fiester Hannes, we did have an amazing meal at Villa Busch in Haiger and it wasn’t exactly much of a culinary destination beyond cute small town pub-style restaurants I had heard that a nice new restaurant opened in town We celebrated my aunt’s birthday here with about a dozen family members and the weather was simply perfect.Villa Busch HaigerVilla Busch HaigerThe food was also really It’s not often you’ll find a place that serves both Thai food and Wiener Schnitzel We had a lovely stay at Hotel Fiester Hannes I’m not suggesting tourists should be flocking to the Haiger area But for us it was the perfect place to stay Should we alert the authorities that Rick Steves has hijacked Lucky's blog Spent summers visiting my aunt outside of Mannheim I have memories of one or the other of us ending up over the "crack." Sometimes if the floor is slippery the beds push just enough apart for the unlucky one to begin to fall into the abyss Hilarity for one and dirty looks by the other ensues This is the area where I grew up as well (just a few towns over) I'll definitely have to give Villa Busch a try - had not yet heard of it opening As someone with strong family history in the Siegerland and family still living in Burbach-Wahlbach Those square European pillows though - I don't know how anyone sleeps on them this is what makes Ben's blog stand out among others I will go for dinner at the Villa next time I visit This hotel looks very nice and service seems to be very good That's what I'm most often missing in small Many owners simply cannot afford major renovations 2 things particularly interest me about this review 1) You don't consider this a hotel apparently 2) You very rarely are asked to pay at the end of your stay (Which is particularly annoying as they also tend to ask for some deposit amount But I tend to stay mostly with Accor or with independent hotels perhaps the US chains have different policies @ Grey -- 1) I didn't put that much thought into it I would generally consider this to be more of a guest house than a hotel I'm not sure there's that important of a distinction 2) While paying for your stay after the fact is normal I can count on one hand the number of times I've stayed at a hotel and wasn't asked to provide a credit card prior to check-out whether it be at check-in or during the booking process I have always travelled with a credit card In all my travels to date the card was used to reserve a guaranteed amount of credit commensurate with the possible final tab amount There was no actual charge done prior to check out The charge is put through the early morning before checkout but even so most businesses finalize their charges later in the evening @ Grey -- 1) I didn't put that much thought into it I'm not sure there's that important of a distinction I can count on one hand the number of times I've stayed at a hotel and wasn't asked to provide a credit card prior to check-out
