An Instagram influencer known for producing outdoor-related content was sentenced on May 1 at the Yukon Territorial Court for illegally hunting three bears and obtaining Yukon hunting licences using misleading information between October 2022 and May 2023
relate to offences committed under the Yukon Wildlife Act
Justice Katherine McLeod ordered Hamm to pay a $10,500 fine and an equal amount in contributions to the Yukon conservation fund for illegally hunting three bears within a five-day period in May 2023
McLeod fined Hamm $2,750 and $1,750 for obtaining hunting licences using misleading information on two separate occasions between 2022 and 2023
She also ordered him to contribute a total of $3,500 to the conservation fund for both counts of obtaining Yukon hunting licenses as a non-resident
McLeod prohibited Hamm from hunting in Yukon for two years
McLeod ruled that Hamm must complete an online hunter education and ethics development course before he can obtain a Yukon hunting licence again
She also ordered him to forfeit pelts from the bears he hunted
Defence lawyer Kevin Drolet told the court that Hamm could make the payment immediately and that the necessary funds were held in a trust account
Hamm attended the proceedings virtually from outside the territory
Crown prosecutor Kelly McGill presented submissions on sentencing
noting that the Yukon Wildlife Act authorizes the courts to impose a fine of up to $50,000 or up to one year in custody for the offences on the indictment
McGill and Drolet agreed upon sentencing recommendations for the offences on the indictment that Hamm pleaded guilty to
including an equal amount in contributions to the conservation fund
as well as a two-year hunting ban and a three-year prohibition on joining groups out on hunts
McGill and Drolet noted in their submissions that Yukon hunting licenses are reserved for Yukon residents and that Hamm had obtained one despite being a non-resident
McGill argued that Yukon wildlife is a public resource and that non-residents can only hunt through a third party
adding that Hamm’s non-compliance with Yukon’s licensing laws was an aggravating factor in sentencing
McGill said Hamm hunted a grizzly bear near Kluane Lake in May 2023 and that he also hunted two black bears
approximately a three-hour drive north of Haines Junction
and another at Bove Island on Tagish Lake’s Windy Arm
McGill also noted that conservation officers recovered two black bear hides
a grizzly bear hide and a bear skull from a taxidermist in the Yukon
Drolet argued in mitigation that sustainable harvest numbers for grizzly bears in 2022 were less than one-quarter of the annual sustainable harvest
He also argued that Hamm submitted all the required harvest and biological reports to Yukon Conservation Officer Services after hunting the bears
Drolet added that Hamm has family connections to Yukon
despite the defence’s characterization of his residence as unusual due to the nature of his employment
said in sentencing that the nature of Hamm’s employment should help serve as a deterrent against future offences
untamed landscapes make enforcing wildlife and conservation laws difficult
leaving the territory vulnerable to violations
She emphasized that denunciation and deterrence should play a role in sentencing for the offences to which Hamm pleaded guilty

Actor Jon Hamm has broken his silence on his shocking hazing past with an outraged indignance
responding furiously when a reporter dared to ask him about it
Hamm's alleged treatment of fraternity pledge Mark Sanders at the University of Texas in Austin has gone largely undiscussed for years
Hamm has never apologized publicly and insisted previously that Sanders' claims were 'sensationalized' and not entirely 'accurate'
The shocking account resurfaced this week amid renewed calls for him to face public scrutiny
When the Daily Mail contacted Hamm by phone Wednesday
it's a very odd choice for you to call me,' he snapped
'They are claims that have been around for years
'I'm a little bit offended that you called my personal line
that's why we have representatives,' he said
Hamm was later spotted looking pensive while walking his dog in New York City
Jon Hamm (pictured in New York City on Wednesday) was upset when contacted by the Daily Mail and asked about a horrific hazing incident from his college days
The Mad Men star was accused of beating a pledge for Sigma Nu at the University of Texas at Austin in 1990
Sanders previously gave an agonizing interview to prosecutors about how he was beaten with a paddle
dragged around a room by his genitals and had his pants set on fire during the hazing ordeal
He was left with a fractured spine and nearly lost a kidney due to the damage he sustained
'He hits me right over my right kidney,' Sanders said of Hamm
And that stood me up,' Sanders said in an interview with Travis County's Attorney's Office for the criminal case
Sanders described being forced into a dirty
confined area known as 'the pit' and ordered to do press ups
He alleged that Hamm and another frat member then violently yanked his underwear up and began moving it back and forth in a painful 'sawing' motion
'I was hurting really bad and I remember I was looking up at the ceiling and I was gritting my teeth and squinting my eyes ..
it was sawing and it was hurting,' Sanders said
He claimed that Hamm then took out a lighter and torched the belt loop on his jeans
Hazing victim Mark Sanders was hit so hard during the warped 1990 initiation that he suffered a fractured spine and nearly lost a kidney
Hamm was charged with assault which was dismissed
The hazing victim Mark Allen Sanders (pictured in 2015) has never spoken about his ordeal and is now a successful Texas lawyer
I see him light the lighter and put it to my pants
I actually tried to put it out with my hands
He also described how Hamm allegedly took out a claw hammer and hooked it under his genitals before dragging him around a room
Hamm was arrested for alleged assault in 1993
The actor went on to become a huge star in 60s advertising drama Mad Men and is currently winning rave reviews for his performance in Apple TV+ drama Your Friends & Neighbors
Allegations of the hazing first resurfaced in 2015
just as the final season of Mad Men was airing
a 'source' close to Hamm told Star magazine that the hazing horror was 'an isolated incident in Jon's life.'
he's been strong enough to take steps to make him a better person,' the source added
But there was no sign of any introspection when Hamm was asked about the incident by Esquire magazine in a 2018 interview
Journalist Maximillian Potter said Hamm's tone became 'tinged with anger' when the subject was broached
with the actor snapping: 'I hope I didn't sign up for a hit piece.'
he said Hamm 'bristled' before unleashing a stream of self-serving invective
'I wouldn’t say it’s accurate,' Hamm began
with Hamm going on to land plum parts in prestige movies and TV shows including Top Gun: Maverick and The Morning Show
But earlier this week, DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan resurfaced the scandal in her new podcast The Nerve, which is part of Megyn Kelly's new MK Media venture
Callahan said she'd been shocked to see Hamm receive plaudits for his Apple TV+ show Your Friends & Neighbors and land plum spots on SNL and Jimmy Fallon
Hamm was with moviemaker ex-girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt for 18 years
She was credited with helping build Hamm's career
but the couple split in 2015 (Pictured together in 2014)
Hamm quickly shacked up with a far younger actress called Anna Osceola when he was 44 and she was 27
The couple wed in 2023 (pictured together in 2024)
Callahan detailed the hazing incident Hamm was involved in and said it was shocking he'd escaped unscathed while the likes of Kevin Spacey and Alec Baldwin had seen their careers destroyed by scandals
only played a 'douche' and that his rage was 'barely-concealed' on screen
Callahan also highlighted how Hamm's talented moviemaker ex-girlfriend Jennifer Westeldt
had helped build his career while the actor spoke about not wanting to get married and how he'd avoided having children
But Hamm shacked up with a far younger actress called Anna Osceola in 2015 when he was 44 and she was 27
The couple wed in 2023 and now live together in a modern $4 million house in the Hollywood Hills
Hamm said he was now open to having children
Hamm went to rehab to be treated for alcoholism in 2015 as Mad Men concluded
Hazing victim Sanders has never spoken publicly about the abuse he suffered during the hazing incident
Several other students involved in the incident were given jail time
The fraternity's chapter was also disbanded at the University of Texas following the incident

Yet the show isn't merely about the flamboyant crisis of a handsome
privileged guy but about a culture in which wealth comes lined with rage and melancholy
known as "Coop," who gets canned for a sexual indiscretion and finds his career in ruins
Mel (Amanda Peet) in bed with one of his friends
Outwardly Coop pretends nothing has happened
Where he once thought of his luxurious town of Westmont Village as paradise
He starts breaking into his friends' houses — stealing things like Patek Philippe watches worth $250,000 — and
From there the show expands outward, introducing many other characters, such as Coop's sometime lover, Sam (Olivia Munn)
who's caught in a nasty divorce; his money manager
Barney (Hoon Lee); his wife's Dominican house-cleaner Elena (Aimee Carrero); and his musician sister
whom Coop has taken in after her breakdown
They all figure in a storyline chockful of betrayal
infidelity and murder — juicy stuff — not to mention Coop's sardonic voice-over mocking the country club fees and fetishized brands of scotch that define the suburban enclave he now disdains
we've grown used to shows in which alpha males like Coop all but wear a tattoo that reads "Toxic Masculinity." I'm pleased that Tropper takes the show someplace subtler
juggling the truth that his hero can be at once a wounded soul with whom one often identifies AND a self-centered man who oozes entitlement
to his discovery that the world's unfair — only after it's been unfair to him
It's a perfect role for Hamm, who carries with him our memories of Don Draper's dark-souled charisma
then takes this sort of character in a new direction — funnier
Although Coop starts out as a self-described jerk
his character grows wiser and more self-aware as the episodes unfold
robbery is a risky business that requires expertise more than self-knowledge
"Nothing is so dangerous as somebody who doesn't know what they don't know."
today's suburbs are undeniably better than they once were
They're less exclusively white and the wives have fulfilling careers
Tropper offers little of the tender lyricism that makes Cheever's suburbs so seductive
It's not just that Coop's world is more grossly materialistic than before — with Rolls Royces and 40-grand bottles of wine — but that its denizens are far more cut off from one another and from any sense of nobler values
Johnny Hake steals $900 from a friend and spends the story feeling guilty and ashamed that he's become a thief
In the far flashier Your Friends & Neighbors
Nor does the show judge him harshly for his thefts

Taking his first lead in a prestige TV drama since Mad Men
nuanced form in a very funny show – which could use a little more bite
He has mostly been busy with comedy roles in the intervening years
he returns to the type of part that made his name: era-specific masculinity under siege from a prestige production bent on feeding us our own horrors back to us in chunks
This time it is about the fall from grace of a New York hedge fund manager
but one who loves his kids and really is who he says he is
The opening scene has Cooper coming to on a marble floor at the bottom of a Dynasty-esque staircase
He scrambles out of the pool of blood surrounding him
There isn’t actually a record-scratch and he doesn’t say: “I guess you’re wondering how I got here,” but that’s the gist
since discovering his wife having an affair with his close friend and NBA All-Star Nick (Mark Tallman)
He lives in a rental and away from his kids
his Maserati and lots and lots of money coming in
Then a (genuinely) slight indiscretion with a younger female employee gives Cooper’s boss the excuse he needs to sack him and nab his client and capital accounts for himself
But as Cooper’s need to meet expenses grows
until we loop back to our man waking up on the marbled floor in a pool of blood and take things again from there
and an outstanding Olivia Munn as Mel’s friend and Coop’s secret booty call
If it really engaged with the power and privilege at play when Cooper and his former maid start working together
and interrogated the workings of capitalism instead of seeming half in love with the rich and their trappings
There is a pulse of anger beating away underneath
Or it could have stripped things down to the bare bones and been a very serviceable cat-and-mouse thriller
with Cooper and the police – or whoever else – trying to outwit each other
Instead you find yourself wishing Hamm had waited just a little longer and returned in greater triumph

When Coop from the new Apple TV+ series lifted a bottle from a chef friend's cellar
Wine lovers and collectors watching the new Jon Hamm vehicle Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV+ took note of a very special cameo in episode 3: A bottle of white Burgundy
When Hamm’s character Andrew “Coop” Cooper—a hedge fund manager who has turned to robbing his rich neighbors to support his lifestyle after he loses his job—pilfers a bottle of wine from a friend who is a successful chef
it’s the sort of rarity that raises eyebrows even among people used to rare wines
Coop is checking out the contents of the chef’s house while the owners are out
but then his friend’s wife comes home unexpectedly—with her daughter's boyfriend!—forcing Coop to hide in a walk-in wine cellar
When the wife and boyfriend start having sex on the couch
picks it up and sneaks out while the couple is distracted
The bottle is the grand cru Domaine d'Auvenay Chevalier-Montrachet 2013, which Coops says retails for $32,000 a bottle. During a quick montage of vineyards and the Burgundy estate’s owner, he explains the vineyards for the wine are farmed biodynamically
which he says is “horseshit” that makes “pretentious” enophiles pay tens of thousands for a bottle
(He is right that plenty of manure is involved in biodynamic farming as compost to improve soil health.)
Domaine d’Auvenay is a winery in the prestigious French region of Burgundy
in the prime vineyard area known as the Côte d’Or (or the “Golden Slope”)
The Côte d’Or is divided into two sections: the Côtes de Nuits in the north and the Côte de Beaune in the south
The Burgundians have had somewhere around 2,000 years of winegrowing to study, determine and name the best sites for growing wine grapes—right down to small parcels. The Chevalier-Montrachet (“Knight of Montrachet”) bottling comes from a roughly 18-acre vineyard in the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet. This area is best known for its white wines, made from Chardonnay
Keep reading and you can impress the sommelier next time you dine out at a fancy restaurant! Chevalier-Montrachet is one of five grands crus—that’s the most prestigious designation in Burgundy for a vineyard site—on the hill of Montrachet and one of only two completely within the boundaries of Puligny-Montrachet
thin marl-limestone soils (Burgundians like to talk a lot about their soils
even more than most winegrowers); above it is forest and below it are the grands crus Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet below that
These sites make some of the most elite white wines in the world
Other famous names that make wine from Chevalier-Montrachet include Bouchard Père & Fils
That's a lot of wineries for about 18 acres of land
the domaine has only 0.4 acres to work with
Now you get an idea of the wine’s scarcity and why it can be so expensive
d’Auvenay’s total annual production of all its wines has hovered between only 350 and 500 cases
in which her family bought a stake back in 1942
Bize-Leroy holds a portfolio of premiers crus and grands crus throughout Burgundy, and the wines, red and white, rank among the best in the world—able to be cellared for decades, even close to a century. Her style is built around low yields in the vineyards
relying on native yeasts for fermentation and maturing the wines in new oak
concentrated fruit,” Sanderson explains of the Domaine Leroy wines
According to our calculations, the 2007 vintage of d'Auvenay Chevalier-Montrachet is among the most expensive wines ever sold at a commercial auction
A 9-liter case sold for $240,412 at a late 2023 Sotheby’s sale of renowned Taiwanese wine collector Pierre Chen’s cellar
and Sanderson described it this way: “From the creamy texture to the racy profile
mineral and lime blossom aromas and flavors
Best from 2020 to 2037.” The 2006 hit 97 points and Sanderson called it “Rich and creamy
with great persistence on the finish,” adding it would be best through 2040
Though a wine like this pretty much sells out to collectors on release
a handful of specialty fine-wine retailers in New York City and Hong Kong have the 2013 vintage on offer from $20,000 for a pre-arrival (meaning the shop doesn’t have the wine in hand yet) to more than $33,000 per bottle
Auctions are the place to look for older vintages of most rare wines
Christie’s auctioned off a bottle in Geneva for 17,500 Swiss francs
And in a September 2024 sale of Pierre Chen’s wines
Sotheby’s sold a three-bottle lot of the 2013 for $56,250
So what does Coop do with a bottle that could potentially fetch enough to pay for his ex-wife’s monetary demands for the next several months at least
we don’t want to spoil the episode for you
And if you’re seriously thinking about paying the price of a Nissan Versa or Kia Soul for a bottle of wine
make sure you buy from a reputable retailer in person or from a long-established auction house—not some random place you found on the Internet or a pawn shop

Jon Hamm is back on TV playing another rich New York commuter whose life is falling apart. Ten years after Mad Men
Hamm is starring in Apple TV+’s Your Friends & Neighbors as Andrew Cooper
a hedge-fund manager facing a slew of problems: His wife has left him for a retired NBA player
and he lost his job after sleeping with a young woman at his company
In his desperation for cash and a sense of control
Cooper starts burglarizing his wealthy neighbors
For the first two episodes, this means that Cooper wears dark jeans, a Loro Piana hoodie, and a Sun Valley baseball cap, a nod to the conference that has been referred to as “summer camp for billionaires.” In the third episode
Coop switches it up with a hat that is almost too cool for him: a Criterion Collection baseball cap
But it’s his Criterion hat that lets us know this guy is not just serious about his Blu-Ray collection
it is simple and elegant and relays a lot of information quickly
“We didn’t want to make it too much of a joke,” costume designer Jacqueline Demeterio told me over Zoom recently
‘Should he have a balaclava?’ We thought about that and it was too hokey.” Instead
like what you or I might wear if we were getting dressed to steal a Patek Phillippe watch from an acquaintance
Apparently this means obscuring Coop’s face not with the kind of mask that comes up when you Google “cartoon burglar,” but with a dark cap bearing the logo of his favorite purveyor of physical media
the idea for the hat came from writer and producer (and IRL Criterion buff) Jamie Rosengard
If you’re feeling inspired and (like me) didn’t know that Criterion made hats, you’re in luck. You can get a similar one to what Coop wears on their website. Yes, it’s $45, but if you are enough of a fan to buy a Criterion hat, I already know you’re frivolous with money. That’s basically two Eric Rohmer box sets
And can you really put a price on letting everyone know that you don’t play about your Letterboxd account

Cold Open — It’s a Trump sketch with James Austin Johnson
here comparing himself to Jesus in an Easter sketch because he made the stock market die
It works better than usual because much of the cast is frozen behind him in their Jesus garb
and James Austin Johnson calls them out individually until they crack
Except for Emil Wakim: He keeps it stone-faced
Jon Hamm Monologue — Hamm has some great energy tonight
talking about how he hasn’t hosted since 2010
but he has done something even more important: made 14 cameos
Cameos are even more critical for saving a meandering
right before Kieran Culkin walks out for a cameo and
Hamm also insists that Mad Men is better than Succession (agree!) (Score: 6.5 out of 10)
CTCBC News — A news channel devoted not to the stock market — because these Check-to-Check Business News viewers don’t invest in the stock market — but to the price of groceries
Please Don’t Destroy — A Please Don’t Destroy video this early in the show
A room of detectives is talking about finding a missing girl
but one detective (Jon Hamm) is most excited about the pizza they’re ordering for the late night — at least until someone says Hawaiian
Guess the Correct Answer — It’s a password-style game
and Hamm plays an average guy who doesn’t really wanna play because he’s mostly afraid of saying something that will go viral and ruin his life and my god
I’m going to make this the Mat sketch of the week
even though I suspect it’s funnier to me than to him
The White Potus — It’s The White Lotus
Some good cameos: ScarJo returns as Ivanka
and the return of Alex Moffat (as Eric Trump) and Beck Bennett
Chloe is a mash-up of Melania and Parker Posey
Lots going on here (and I guarantee half the viewers didn’t even realize that Moffat and Beck Bennett left SNL several seasons ago)
Weekend Update — The Hamm-hosted show is going so well that it doesn’t need “Update” to bail it out, which is good because the jokes are not great this week (watch here and here)
are top-notch: Bowen Yang plays China’s trade representative
who clearly has a lot more tolerance for pain than America; Emil Wakim does a segment on how he’s not that proud to be an American
which involves some Uber Eats jokes; and Sarah Sherman plays Colin’s tax accountant
which — as always — is an excuse for her to make fun of Jost for three minutes
New Parents — A gay couple at a hangout arrives with a new baby, which they didn’t have the night before, and when people ask where they got the baby, they shut them down with variations on, “You can’t ask gay people that.” There are a couple of amusing moments, but it’s not the night’s best offering. (Watch Here) (Score: 4 out of 10)
Medication Ad — It’s a medication ad that’s basically a parody of all the other medication ads. Clever, but not to the level of Jon Hamm’s John Ham.(Score: 5.5 out of 10)
Icebreaker — A group of strangers play an icebreaker game where everyone says their name and one fact about themselves, and it kind of goes off the rails because one guy’s fact is that his mom killed his dad naked on TV. They can’t all be great! (Watch Here) (Score: 4 out of 10)

Apple TV+'s "Your Friends & Neighbors" (first two episodes now streaming
I'm fortunate to get to pick and chose what I do
and I say that without any shame," says Hamm
whose performance as ad man Don Draper in AMC's hit 2007-15 series "Mad Men" shot him to stardom
where he has remained through standout roles in movies such as "Bridesmaids" and "Baby Driver" and TV shows including FX's "Fargo" and Apple's "The Morning Show."
This time he's back with a vintage Hamm performance that blends his ability to convey both solemnity and humor as Andrew "Coop" Cooper
a recently divorced hedge fund manager and father of two who loses his job and decides the easiest way to support his expensive lifestyle is to rob his tony friends and neighbors
The series also stars a convincing Amanda Peet as Coop's ex-wife
and a compelling Olivia Munn as his tormented lover
Coop manages to repeatedly slip into the mega-mansions of his suburban New York neighborhood and pilfer wildly expensive bags
items whose absences mostly go unnoticed given the excess on display
"One of the taglines for the show on a billboard somewhere said simply
'You don't know what you're missing,'" Hamm says before chuckling
Speaking of "Mad Men," which ended a decade ago
Hamm says he appreciates not just how the show made him a household name but also how it captivated audiences with a modern show set 60 years in the past
He hopes "Your Friends & Neighbors" can also captures today's zeitgeist
"'Mad Men' was a show that penetrated the culture
and while a lot of that is luck and right place/right time stuff
There are elements in this new show that speak directly to the times we're living through
specifically this bizarre fascination with more
Stealing isn't exactly an honorable thing to do
the act is less a crime and more a way to showcase just how out of touch the ultra-wealthy can be when
you're unaware when a $350,000 watch is missing
"That's an absurd amount of money to most people
it's not even worth thinking about," he says
The actor pauses to weigh his next words before offering his measured social commentary
"We are in a weird moment in our collective culture with late-stage capitalism and rampant materialism and so many billionaires doing
interesting things with their money that could seemingly be better spent on making the whole world a better place
rather than just buying a bigger boat or going to space more."
Almost makes the Gordon Gekko "greed is good" 1980s look quaint
(convicted junk bond king) Michael Milken is almost a charitable figure now."
Hamm says this rich entertainment age is 'a great time to be an audience member'There's one aspect of our current age that leaves Hamm positively rapturous: the sheer variety of entertainment choices for actors and viewers alike
"It doesn't matter if the project is from a studio or a streamer if the script has something compelling
he's floored by the depth and breadth of storytelling
"I was just watching the (Netflix) show 'Adolescence,' and wow
And look at shows like 'Baby Reindeer': There's just so much coming down the pike from so many sources
but also a great time to be an audience member."
you might think Hamm would agree that today's fare far outstrips anything made when Hamm was a kid plunked down in front of a TV in St
before riffing on his favorite shows from the '70s and '80s
Kotter' and I liked 'Fish' and 'Barney Miller.' I loved 'Three's Company' and 'The Love Boat.' There are good things in all our time periods
Is there one old show for which Hamm will brook no criticism
'Miami Vice' still holds up," he booms with a smile
Here's rooting for a Hamm-led "Miami Vice" reboot

His comfort with the 2008 and 2010 casts seemed to have helped
and with 15 years passing since the last hosting gig
I wondered what the dynamic would be with the current cast
Two business-news anchors (Hamm and Ego Nwodim) break down financial news for normal people who don’t understand what The Wall Street Journal is talking about but do need to know how the economy is going to impact their lives in the most relevant terms
The sketch included questionable tips from correspondents played by Kenan Thompson and Andrew Dismukes on how to stay afloat
like investing in Funko Pops and replacing Perrier with the American-made “Uncle Bubble.”
A detective chief (Ben Marshall) briefs his team about a missing girl and warns them that because it’ll be a late night
A cop (Hamm) gets way too excited and emotionally invested in the idea of this being a pizza party
like John Higgins’s character shooting a gun into the air and following up with
I realized immediately I shouldn’t have done that.” For a sketch that started with everyone collectively being mad at one guy
ending it with everyone collectively being mad at Jane Wickline’s pizza-delivery person for those six Hawaiian pizzas was a nice way to close the arc
A respected dentist (Hamm) is on a game show
worried about whether he will destroy his reputation by doing something embarrassing on TV
When trying to guess the clues from his teammate (Mikey Day) during a round
he instinctively responds with his secrets
but he’s so into playing the game that he’s unaware or unbothered by it
The contrast of the character’s earnestness with his vile confessions (“Something that’s racist,” “Ooh
“Weekend Update” paled in comparison to the rest of the episode
with heavier groans from the audience than it has had in a minute
The jabs at Jost from Sherman are always a treat to watch
and it doesn’t change when she’s in character
“Let’s go through your budget like you go through an after-party: line by line,” and “You’re letting people use your private jet for free
it’s for ICE deportations?” The piece escalates perfectly into Sherman’s headbutting the wall to find “so many women tied up back there.”
where Kenan Thompson’s cop character had a side game of moving on from his late wife
alongside the main game of Hamm and Jason Sudeikis’s characters going on motorcycle escapades instead of solving crime
• Alex Moffat’s return as Eric Trump in the White Lotus parody
• James Austin Johnson rightfully called out Nwodim’s big week last weekend in the fourth-wall break in the cold open (making Sherman and Nwodim break
• Spent too long figuring out that musical guest Lizzo’s first T-shirt, which said “Tariffied,” was a pun on “tariff” and “terrified.” It almost distracted me from the backup-dancer allegations from 2023
• All the tariff talk makes me wish I had SNL writer money
• Props to the graphics team for the “Weekend Update” image of the baby with veneers
• I’m remembering to not take a good host for granted, because the way things are going, you know they’re going to book some Kill Tony guy to host next
• In the “Check to Check Business News” sketch
“Should meat cost less than gum?” reminds me that I have to spread the word about how expensive Taco Bell has gotten
A refried-bean Mexican Pizza in Ridgewood is like $9
That’s about as much as a sandwich that won’t wreck your gut biome

A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m
Officiating the service will be Deacon Clary Nash. Billy was born on July 2
Virginia to William Fields Hamm and Edith Elizabeth Robinette
Louisiana. Billy served in the United States Army before going to work for General Motors in Baltimore
Maryland and in 1981 transferring to the Shreveport
He was a Caddo Sheriff Auxiliary which he enjoyed for 10 plus years coordinating many events
He mostly enjoyed the time spent with his family
especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Billy is preceded in death by his parents
William Fields Hamm and Edith Hamm; sisters
all of Louisiana; and numerous other family and friendsIn lieu of flowers

about a guy who becomes a master thief executing elaborate heists
who is going through a tough divorce from his ex-wife
after finding her in bed with a retired NBA player
and occasionally sleeping with another neighbor
who’s fresh off her own difficult divorce
Andrew is bitter and floundering because he’s lost not only everything he worked for
he was defined by his job and his marriage
The stealing is necessary — to maintain his lifestyle
and child support — but it’s also his way of processing grief and reevaluating his life
By pilfering from oblivious friends and neighbors who are so rich and comfortable
he’s starting to recognize what an asshole he’s been by looking at all the assholes around him
seems to be going through a midlife crisis of her own
feels less about Andrew and more about rejecting the person she had become
It’s a show about a former couple trying to break free from middle-aged malaise and rediscover themselves
It’s exactly the kind of series you’d expect from the novelist and screenwriter behind the fantastic but little-seen This Is Where I Leave You
which slipped under the radar a little more than a decade ago despite an almost unimaginably great cast: Jason Bateman
It’s also exactly what you’d expect if you’ve read any of Jonathan Tropper’s novels
He’s sort of Nick Hornby crossed with Judd Apatow — funny
warm comedies about complicated people navigating divorce
That’s precisely what This Is Where I Leave You is about: a group of siblings sitting shiva for their late father
They’re sad and sweet and funny and bittersweet
is that Tropper is probably better known for his television work as showrunner of Apple TV+’s Jason Momoa series
See; Cinemax’s surprisingly great Banshee; and HBO’s martial arts drama Warrior
It’s hard to square Your Friends and Neighbors with that beloved cult series about an ex-con
assuming the identity of a murdered small-town sheriff
But the one thing all of Tropper’s work has in common — except maybe See — is that he makes great television
whether it’s a stockbroker in crisis
or a martial artist navigating 1870s San Francisco
He’s an excellent drawer of characters
and a great writer can put those characters into any world and make it work
and that’s exactly what he’s doing now with Your Friends and Neighbors
Print In “Your Friends and Neighbors,” premiering Friday on Apple TV+
well-placed hedge fund trader who is fired from his job
ostensibly for violating a company policy about fraternization in the ranks
whom he discovered in bed with his best friend
And he’s not doing so well with his kids — Princeton-bound Tori (Isabel Gravitt)
and high school sophomore Hunter (Donovan Colan)
What they have in common is a failure to communicate
Coop and Mel and all their wealthy friends and neighbors live in an exclusive community somewhere in the commutable vicinity of New York City. To keep this entangled universe in balance, Coop is sleeping with Sam (Olivia Munn), whose husband has left her for a much younger model. One imagines that similar business goes on just beyond the bounds of this series.
Television
The actor spoke about joining the cast of Apple TV+’s drama series that she co-stars in with Jon Hamm and Amanda Peet just as she was learning she had breast cancer
There is something old-fashioned about these folks and their power relations
including Coop’s decision that he’d rather steal than admit he’s out of work — toxic male insecurity
Mel gets a scene or two to show that she has a job
and one minor character is described as the best defense lawyer in New York
but the female characters — wives and ex-wives — come across for the most part as subordinate to and dependent upon men
at self-defense class and at numerous parties — which is not to say they’re having any fun
A habit becomes a sort of livelihood, as Coop turns his loot into cash. This brings him into contact with some dangerous characters, at which point “Breaking Bad” seems the relevant comparison
There’s a sense in which the situation is out of his control
Ensuring that you won’t have to work out any of the series’ themes for yourself, narrator Coop sounds a little like Joan Didion
scotch was like a f—ing religion; every time someone poured you a drink they’d have to give a f—ing Ted Talk about the scotch
and then someone would inevitably chime in about some bottle they once had you couldn’t get anymore and blah blah
I think at some point it just started to dawn on everyone that this was it; these houses
this would be the sum total of their lives
and so the quest to stave off the emptiness began; scotch
entire industries built to cash in on the quiet desperation of rich middle-aged men.”
As has become too common practice, “Your Friends and Neighbors” opens with an exciting scene of crisis before shifting back in time to show how we get there. Like a little show called “The White Lotus,” there is an unidentified dead body
you might expect them anyway in a show about stealing things
because everything that points toward that end is satisfying and most everything that points away from it is … annoying
I never felt emotionally invested in the result
intellectually.) The series’ multiple threads — including one focused on Barney (Hoon Lee)
who is dealing with his wife’s renovation plans and his disapproving old-world Korean in-laws (Barney is Korean but doesn’t speak the language) — take energy away from the plotline we’re meant to care most about
But they do fill up space in a story stretched to nine hours
As a supposedly successful man undergoing a spiritual crisis
(“I realized how far you could drift away from your own life without actually going anywhere.”) But Don was never the most interesting person in “Mad Men,” and Coop is less compelling than Mel
and whom we meet on the lawn of her former fiancé
strumming a guitar and singing Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.” (Hunter’s band performs Matthew Sweet’s “Sick of Myself” — “In a world that’s ugly and a lie / It’s hard to even want to try” — to further underscore the suburban anomie in song.) As Elena
a young Dominican housekeeper who falls in with Coop in his misadventures
