The dream of a jeans brand made in Germany had already come true a few years ago with the launch of Blaumann
The jeans are manufactured exclusively in German clothing factories
buttons and leather labels also come from Germany
But they lacked one essential ingredient: German-made selvedge denim
“During conversations we repeatedly came across the missing link
the denim woven in Germany on a shuttle loom with the corresponding weight
There hasn’t been anything like this before
because jeans weren’t an issue before the war and after the war the denims were first imported until they were woven much later on and off in Germany
but then on modern looms,” says Guido Wetzels
one of the makers of Blaumann and a passionate jeans expert
Photo: Blaumann Made in Germany As Wetzels gets around a lot and knows the industry very well
a company based in tranquil Hamminkeln that concentrates on finishing and refining denim that wanted to venture the experiment with Wetzels
Here he tells the adventurous story from the idea to the actual product
from the experience of starting up an old loom again to the feeling of holding the first meter made in Germany
For quite some time you have been dreaming about creating selvedge denim that’s made in Germany
Now this dream has finally come true in cooperation with the company Maibom...
I always had to deal with the company Maibom when it came to fabric tests
we also came back to Blaumann from time to time and in this context to the missing link
the denim woven in Germany on a shuttle loom with a corresponding weight
The historical denims woven on vintage looms come mainly from Japan
these quantities play practically no role on the world market
Selvedge denim is a subject for enthusiasts
Maibom said that the weaving mills they work with in Asia still had such “things” (old looms) standing around
Probably he was a little bit flirty about the story
are still real textile people through and through
Not even that much later he called and said
if the quality is right.” And we wanted blue and white selvedge
From the moment we accepted the order to the first meter of denim
At the moment we can’t estimate that
as the plan for expansion was at least discussed
It depends in the end on how much fabric or trousers we will sell.
At the moment the loom runs whenever Detlef
so it’s not a classic shift operation
The consumption per trouser is about 2.6 meters
Photo: Maiboom/Blaumann The denim is woven on this loom at Maiboom
How much more does the customer have to pay for Made in Germany denim
The fabric price is in the range of Japanese denims with the same weight
The trousers will cost €279 instead of our usual €249 simply because the goods are definitely strictly limited at the moment due to capacity reasons
How did you feel when you actually had the first denim Made in Germany in your hands after so many efforts
It’s always one thing to talk about something like that in “you would have to” and “it would be great” mode and then really have it in your hands at the end
Photo: Maiboom/Blaumann The loom comes from Asia
We presented the trousers at the Selvedge Run in July 18 and a lot of orders were placed
Actually all dealers thought it was great and not one of them had a problem with the higher price
In retrospect: What was the biggest difficulty with the project
For us the biggest difficulty was to put a flea in Mr
Maibom’s ear about how cool such a project is for his company.
Photo: Maiboom/Blaumann The loom had to be extensively repaired
The effort was clearly worth it; it’s the first selvedge denim from Germany
The first proto-blue men’s jean five years ago was technically a nightmare
We are trying to increase our sewing capacity in Germany
Denim clothing is already very special when it comes to the machinery and there are hardly any companies left that can really do that or have the machines
Recently you have also added a women's model to the collection
The women’s model is doing quite well
but at the moment we are only making a small series
The men’s models are more important for the trade
and at the moment we mainly have to distribute the sewing capacities among them
we will be expanding and experimenting with fabrics
slightly pre-washed for the final wash cycle
the Rhine River was crossed in one of the biggest attacks launched in western-Europe
The attack consisted of an Airborne assault (Varsity) and an Amphibious assault (Plunder)
two Divisions of airborne soldiers and four infantry divisions were used in the initial assault
it involved more than 16,000 paratroopers of the American 17th Airborne and the British 6th Airborne divisions
They were flown in by several thousand aircraft
it was the largest airborne operation in history that took place on a single day and in one location
In Operation Plunder the British 2nd Army (The 51st Highland Division and the 15th Scottish Division) and the US Ninth Army (30th and 79th Division) crossed the River Rhine in an amphibious assault
All of the units involved from both operations were part of the 21st Army Group commanded by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery
These are some the pictures taken during the two operations

Two people have been killed after a silver Ferrari FF crashed on an unrestricted section of the German autobahn in Hamminkeln
it was reportedly raining with the FF making the most of the free speed limits
apparently overtaking cars at over 200 km/h
it all went wrong for the passengers and the FF travelling from the Netherlands

the FF reportedly began to skid before sliding into a guardrail and smashing into a tree on the side of the road
Immediately following the impact with the tree
the Italian car caught fire with both passengers killed immediately
the damage sustained to the FF is comprehensive
While most of the car has been destroyed by the fire
it seems apparent that it struck the tree from the side with the mangled mess initially confusing local reporters about just what Ferrari model it was
What a surprise: even a ‘super car’ can’t negotiate rain-slick curves (designed for 150-kmh) at speeds of 200-kmh

Spanish Grand Prix rider Manuel Dominguez has taken over the ride on the Nurnberger Burgpokal finalist Golden Romance Malleret PS
He has also welcomed Filarmonie de Malleret into his barn in Unna-Massen
The 33-year old Dominguez established himself as an independent professional in the autumn of 2023 after having worked for German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg for 3.5 years
Manuel first began riding horses for Haras de Malleret
the leading French dressage stallion station and breeding farm
at the beginning of 2023 when he was allocated the stud's flagship stallion
Danciano de Malleret (by Dancier x Rotspon)
The Malleret horses were not unfamiliar to him as trainer Helen had been training Zaeta de Malleret and Golden Romance Malleret PS since 2021
Manuel and Golden Romance Malleret PSBecause Haras de Malleret focuses both on breeding and sport
it made some changes in location and riders for the 2024 breeding year
Malleret partnered with Paul Schockemöhle's stallion station in Mühlen
to stand Danciano and Golden Romance (by Governor x Sir Donnerhall) at stud and cater to the high demand from breeders across Europe
The Oldenburg registered Golden Romance Malleret PS is bred by Schockemöhle and is a half brother to the licensed stallions For Romance I and II
As a young horse he placed fourth at the 2019 French Young Horse Championships and won the bronze medal in 2020
Helen Langehanenberg trained him to FEI level and the pair finished fifth in the 2023 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals for Developing Prix St Georges horses in Frankfurt
Both Danciano and Golden Romance are available with fresh semen at Schockemöhle
With Filarmonie de Malleret at the CDN AnkumManuel Dominguez has been put in charge of the training of Golden Romance in Mühlen
The Spaniard also welcomed the 11-year old Hanoverian Filarmonie de Malleret into his barn
The 11-year old black mare (by Furstenball x De Niro) won bronze at the 2018 French Young Horse Championships and was fifth in 2019
She then moved to Germany for further training with Olympian Dorothee Schneider
Malleret now matched the mare to Manuel Dominguez
Ten days after arriving in his stable they had a successful competition premier at the CDN Ankum on 14-15 March 2024
scoring 70.437% in the Prix St Georges and winning the Intermediaire I with 70.307%
what a feeling and what a mare," Manuel stated after winning in Ankum
"We still have a lot to know about each other and a lot to improve
but she is a very exciting mare for the future that lies ahead."
Manuel debuted Golden Romance Malleret PS at medium tour level at the CDN Hamminkeln on 7 April
winning the Intermediaire A test with 73.202%
" It couldn't have been better in our debut show," Dominguez commented
Manuel schedules to compete both at the 2024 Horses & Dreams CDI Hagen on 23 - 27 April 2024

Dutch company Victory & Dreams International Holding BV has acquired fashion brand Bonita from German group Tom Tailor Holding SE
The agreement still needs to be approved by the authorities and the terms of sale haven’t been disclosed
Tom Tailor had already announced its intention to sell Bonita in December 2018
“The sale of Bonita is an important step for the Tom Tailor Group
We create a clear situation by freeing up our capacity and as a result we can focus on the future by implementing a successful strategy for the Tom Tailor brand”
“Tom Tailor did very well last year despite the difficult circumstances the entire sector is going through
Bonita is going through a difficult restructuring process which we have fully supported in recent months
We have come a long way but the synergies we had in mind when purchasing the brand can no longer be implemented by Tom Tailor Group"
“We are convinced that Bonita can develop further under its new owner
Victory & Dreams International Holding has presented a concept for the continuation of the brand and its Hamminkeln office
Bonita also matches the rest of Victory & dreams’ portfolio very well”
Victory & Dreams also owns Miller & Monroe
Bonita was valued at 184.5 million euros in December 2018 and achieved a turnover of 127 million euros in the first nine months of 2018
