Thai food is likely not the first thought for hungry visitors to rural Bavaria
But after a few months of living in this part of Germany
plenty of exposure to bratwurst and a persistent craving for Asian food
I took a chance on what I thought was Thai Imbiss Mekong in the village of Heroldsberg
reviews and a single picture of a hut-like structure on Yelp and Google
the photo I saw and my below-average land navigation skills
I circled a building attempting to find this mysterious hut
only to find that the photo was a red herring
The replacement to what I found on Yelp is a full building
far from the usual size of a German imbiss
wasn’t busy on a Friday evening at peak dinner hours
A few patrons were nestled on the shaded patio with a curtain of trees that dampened the sound of Heroldsberg’s primary road
Assuming I would have to stumble my way through my minimal knowledge of German
then resorted to asking whether the waitstaff spoke English
to which they excitedly stated that they did
The kind and friendly host explained the German menu while giving her personal recommendations for dishes
The offerings test the taste buds with varying degrees of spice from an array of curries
not wanting to review the restaurant based on a single dish
The pad thai felt like a good place to start
there was nothing special that stuck out to me
lemon and peanuts on the side added flavor
I held out hope for the curry and I wasn’t disappointed
The massaman curry was the best meal I’ve had in a while
and it was all accented by the slight crunch of the sliced carrots
While this dish also could have been a shared plate
I savored every bite of the curry and rice and wished for more
I did have to wait a while for the food to arrive
family-owned restaurant with affordable prices and large portions
I may have to stop off in Heroldsberg for another plate of curry
Prices: Main dishes are between 10 and 17 euros; cards and cash are accepted
What’s claimed to be the US’ largest floating solar farm has been completed in the city of Healdsburg
a 4.78MW array across two wastewater treatment ponds in Sonoma County
is operated by renewables company White Pine
Co-developed by White Pine and floating solar specialist Noria Energy
it claims to be the country’s largest installation of its kind to date
The project edges just ahead of the floating solar array to have previously laid claim to the throne; a 4.4MW project completed on a retention pond in New Jersey
Land for solar development can be hard to find in Sonoma
in addition to capitalising on the space available
placing panels on these ponds will reduce algae growth and evaporation
preventing disease in neighbouring vineyards that are irrigated with treated water
said the company “combined innovative technology and an efficient capital structure to provide long-term savings” to residents in the area
The City of Healdsburg will be supplied electricity from the plant through a 25-year power purchase agreement
covering roughly 8% of Healdsburg’s energy demand
It forms part of the city’s wider aim to run on 60% renewable energy by 2030
said the partnership “leveraged Noria’s experience in floating solar technology and White Pine’s development experience” to create the project
Healdsburg’s utility director Terry Crowley called the array a “cornerstone” of the City’s long-term plan to run on 60% renewable energy by the end of the decade

The Triassic period saw the emergence of early dinosaurs
from the agile Coelophysis to the towering Plateosaurus
Jurassic Park shmurassik Park — if you want to look at some real old-school dinosaurs
The Triassic was a time of transformation and ecological recovery after the Permian-Triassic mass extinction event
Spanning from 252 to 200 million years ago
the Triassic is recognized for its diverse reptilian life
Dinosaurs only began to emerge towards the end of this period
paving the way for the giants of the Jurassic to emerge
So let’s take a look at these ancient beasts and explore the most famous Triassic dinosaurs
Coelophysis, a slender, bipedal carnivore from the Late Triassic, was one of the earliest known carnivorous theropods. Discovered in New Mexico, this 3-meter-long dinosaur was characterized by hollow bones and a lightweight structure, hence the dinosaur’s name “Hollow Form”
has revealed a wealth of information about its anatomy and behavior
elongated skull equipped with numerous sharp teeth
suggesting a diet primarily consisting of small prey
The configuration of its limbs indicates a capacity for swift movement
Herrerasaurus
a primitive Late Triassic dinosaur from Argentina
Herrerasaurus was a top predator of its time
Its strong hind legs were designed for running
Herrerasaurus’ exact position in the dinosaur family tree was a great scientific debate due to the unusual anatomy of its hip
a consensus was eventually reached within the scientific community
Another herrerasaurid from Late Triassic Brazil
Although only about 2 m in length and 80 cm at the hip
Staurikosaurus possessed muscular arms equipped and hands with large claws
Eodromaeus was an early theropod from Argentina’s Late Triassic period
measuring approximately 1.2 meters in length and weighing around 5 to 7 kg
was equipped with distinct saber-shaped teeth and clawed hands
Its body shape and skeletal structure suggest swift
a basal sauropodomorph from the Late Triassic of Southern Brazil
is recognized as one of the earliest known dinosaurs
it lived approximately 237 to 225 million years ago
showcases the initial stages of sauropodomorph evolution
characterized by a small skull on a flexible neck and plant-crushing teeth
highlight the dinosaur’s wide geographical spread during the Late Triassic period
Coloradisaurus, another sauropodomorph from Argentina’s Late Triassic, thrived in the Los Colorados Formation, notably during the Norian stage. This dinosaur, approximately 10 meters long, was characterized by a sturdy build and a herbivorous diet. However, it is primarily known from a partial skeleton, including significant cranial material, mostly shedding light on its feeding mechanics and lifestyle.
Sellosaurus, a sauropodomorph, inhabited Europe approximately 214 to 204 million years ago. With an adult size stretching between 4 to 7 meters in length and a height of about 3 meters, Sellosaurus was estimated to have weighed between 300 to 600 kg, showcasing a sturdy yet agile build. Since it belonged to the Plateosauridae family, Sellosaurus shared several characteristics with its close relative, Plateosaurus, including a long neck and a predominantly plant-based diet.

Waking up early on a chilly morning in Munich, Germany, at the beginning of December, I blindly stumble over to my hotel room's bathroom counter like a toddler who just learned to walk. I go through the motions of my beauty routine as normal, but I pause when it comes to my brows, staring at the selection of new Sephora Collection brow products sitting before me
Do I lie to myself and say I'll go natural with only a few swipes of brow gel
before eventually saying screw it and spending a whole ass 20 minutes shaping one of them like I always do
The possibilities are endless with so many options
I opt for the latter (duh) before running to the lobby to load onto a flock of charter buses with the rest of the Sephora team
After a few days in Munich exploring at least three Christmas markets
finishing a liter of beer at Hofbräuhaus like a champion
and drinking enough glühwein for the entire city
we take a two-hour trip to the Schwan Cosmetics factory in Heroldsberg
where a majority of Sephora Collection's brow and pencil products are made — and have been for over 15 years
Sephora Collection kicked 2020 off with a bang
revamping their collection of brow products to infuse Big Brow Energy in both their existing products and the new innovations they've recently introduced
With access to valuable Sephora consumer statistics and reviews
Sephora Collection ensured the updates to their brow arsenal directly addressed the most frequent consumer concerns and requests
And from those updates came a wealth of products that
address every single brow preference in the history of forever
The Microblade Effect Brow Pen only comes in two shades at the moment. The brand says this is largely because developing the pigments with this specific formula is difficult. (The colors can get murky pretty quickly.) However, Phillips says, because she typically only uses this product to fill in small, sparse areas, a good amount of people will be able to use the provided shades.
$12See On SephoraThat early morning in Munich
wielding it carefully to reveal a pretty damn good set of precise
five more of these," and lucky for me
I'll soon receive another one fresh off the line not long after we get to Schwan
I realize we've been transported to a much more open
and I'm hard-pressed not to ditch our tour entirely to run off into the hills of the German countryside
Schwan's facilities are a stark contrast from the picturesque backdrop
with a neon orange staircase here and stunning cosmetics graphics there
It looks like the cool place you'd want your makeup to come out of
INFO1/2PREVNEXTFor a factory that looks like it's from the future
I'm surprised to learn that Schwan began as a pencil (yes
It wasn't until 1927 that Schwan introduced the Schwan Eyebrow Pencil
refining their process along the way to extend to pencil powder shadows
and more items rampant in your makeup bag to this day
the powerhouse boasts over 370 different cosmetic textures
and produces an estimate of a million pencils a day
After suiting up in a white lab coat and a v chic baby blue hairnet
I walk out of the lobby's color-blocked walls and into where the magic happens: the factory itself
A Schwan employee leads our group past rooms stacked high with containers of the ingredients that make up most of the products sitting in your makeup cabinet at this very moment
I see employees poring over swatches and screens
and our tour guide explains that Schwan's color experts will manually match a color swatch to a base example with their own eyes
It feels like we zip through a maze of long hallways forever before entering what I lovingly call Schwan's ASMR Mecca
automated machines with laser-sharp movements working away
I feel like Charlie Bucket stepping into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory for the first time
except I'm not allowed to eat any of the pencils
we land at the machine filling Sephora Collection's Retractable Brow Pencil components — and I can't take my eyes off every automated step
As one arm of the machine inserts the inner plastic cylinder
another fills the component with the product's formula
and another caps it off before depositing the finished product into a box of the pencils that came out before it
even hearing the consistent humming of the machine — calms my mind more than any ASMR video ever could
(Swipe through the Instagram above for some videos of the process you won't be able to look away from.)
Schwan treats us to some time in their color lab
where other editors and I have the opportunity to create our own eyeliner
our Schwan color expert helps us choose the pigments our shade will need and mixes those pigments with the necessary ingredients over heat until they're liquid
She then takes the liquid mixture over to three large
Through a process called "milling," she pours the formula over the cylinders
which mix the formula until it hardens and spills out in slightly solid form
exciting than watching the brow product's conception
to the point where I think it cured me of any and all ailments I've ever had
As I'm handed one of the finished Retractable Brow Pencils and the finished eyeliner
as if they were babies I watched develop from conception to birth
when I sit down in the morning to start my day with big brow energy
