as the top-seeded Longhorns advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament
As Holle prepared to sub out in the waning seconds of the game, the gravitas of the moment hadn't sunk in for her
praising her journey and glowing with pride over the strides she's made since her days as a walk-on
she's just a winner," Schaefer said afterward
you miss those kids that come in every day and are like that."
More: March Madness: Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda leads Texas into Sweet 16 showdown with Tennessee
Properly quantifying Holle's impact on Texas is difficult despite her being the program's all-time winningest player
She's the kind of culture setter who holds a locker room together off the court and perfectly performs her role on it
even if it means sacrificing personal statistics
Hole was a team-high +19 in plus/minus despite recording only six points
but Holle has done everything properly since stepping foot on campus
It's a quality UT forward Aaliyah Moore has appreciated even since their EYBL days when Moore rocked high school braids and Holle a side part
"You could even say she's one of the reasons
a small part of the reason why I wanted to come here," Moore said
"I wanted to play with someone like Shay ..
I'm just really proud that I was able to see her growth."
How will Texas basketball replace Shay Holle? So
how does Texas replace Holle once the season ends and her college eligibility evaporates
you try your best to make sure she doesn't leave in the first place
but that might be the best recruiting job I could ever do if I ever get her
You know I'm always trying to hire people smarter than me."
More: Why Shay Holle, UT women's basketball's all-time leader in games played, is a dying breed
appreciative of the offer but not having thought much about diving into the possibility of coaching basketball
She's lived in Austin for her entire life and spoke about leaving her comfort zone after graduation to foster personal growth
she's confident in the next wave of Longhorns that will lead the team to the future
Holle specifically mentioned freshman guard Jordan Lee
another player whose contributions lack tangibility but are integral to Texas' makeup
has a smile on her face and brings good vibes
nicely — she's already doing it with me," Holle said
and she can maximize it by leading Texas to a national championship
But even if the senior does leave after graduation
she wouldn't mind returning to Austin eventually
Perhaps she'll take Schaefer up on his offer
"Maybe we'll circle back when that time comes," she said

Shay Holle has played in 141 career games for Texas
Throughout her college basketball career, Shay Holle has played in a program record 141 games
accumulating 117 wins with the Texas Longhorns
With a career-high of 22 points in a single game
Shay was named to the 2024 Big 12 All-Defensive Team and selected as an All-Big 12 honorable mention
makes you more inclined to make mistakes because you're so tied up in everything." Holle said
and she was so stressed out just to go to practice
I've seen myself grow from that to now where it just feels so comfortable."
Shay went to Westlake High School where she played for the women's basketball team and competed in track and field
she was named espnW HoopGurlz' 26th player at the guard position and earned two titles as a District 25-6A Most Valuable Player
she was named the Austin American-Statesman's All-Centex Player of the Year
historically becoming Westlake's second student to receive the honor
where she would undoubtedly become an integral player on the women's basketball team
"I've really been able to lean on her the last couple years," women's basketball head coach, Vic Schaefer
she went from being probably our third option defensively when we were making out a game plan to being our number one defender."
Shay now holds the program record for games played in the NCAA Era and will be recognized for the record at the Texas home game on Dec
With eight wins for Texas she will become the winningest player in program history
which is exactly what I want and why I know I'm in the right place," Holle said
which I think is a really good spot to be in."
Not only has Shay spent her years at UT being dedicated to the team
but she has worked equally as hard in her studies
She completed her undergraduate studies in the McCombs School of Business with a degree in finance
she was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team
an honor for players who succeed both academically and athletically
she works to earn her master's degree in strategic communication at the Moody College of Communication
and I would love to stay around sports," Holle said
"I don't necessarily think I want to be a coach
but I think just being on the business side of sports
or like a general manager of an arena or entertainment
Schaefer believes she is destined for a career of coaching
"I'm going to fight like hell to keep her out of the business section and keep her in coaching," Schaefer said
'you're going to be a coach,' and she laughs
and her parents laughed at me when I said that to her
Shay's success isn't the only thing that is guaranteed
She has also gained a lifelong sisterhood with her fellow teammates
who have deemed her as the 'mom' of the team
"She's always the mom on our team," sophomore forward Madison Booker said
"For summer and a little bit during school
Shay got our outfits together and she sent in the group chat
Shay naturally stepped into a leadership role
but she also radiates a positive attitude that transfers over to her teammates
"She just shows up every single day with a smile on her face, always positive, always going to be a leader," said senior forward Taylor Jones
who was also roommates with Holle for two years
"I think that really has affected a lot of us on the team
Just seeing her show up every single day is a very positive light that we all need
Skills, smarts and a smile are a winning combination for Shay Holle
it is clear that her mark will be left on the Longhorns for good
I don't think I've ever seen her have a bad day," Schaefer said
she never lets anybody else in the gym know it
You're talking about one of the all time great kids in my career."

Now they have announced they are going to exercise the fifth-year option on all three
Wilson has been a bright spot on the Jets’ struggling and inconsistent offense. Under the leadership of former quarterback Aaron Rodgers, their offense was given a C- grade in PFSN’s Offense+ metric for 2024
Now with Rodgers gone, Wilson is being reunited with his old college quarterback, Justin Fields
there is a different union that is making headlines right now — that of Wilson and his girlfriend
Speculation that Holle, the star guard for the University of Texas Longhorns basketball team, and Wilson have been dating has swirled for quite a while. Now those rumors have been confirmed in some adorable social media posts on both Wilson and Holle’s Instagram accounts
the two are posed with Holle’s shiba inu
It was posted with the Sade song “Your Love is King.” Wilson shared the photo on his account
There are a few other photos that dropped hints without the confirmation
including a picture of them making a heart with their hands
with Wilson wearing a “Shay Holle” hat
That photo was captioned “Grateful.” In another
“When two halves make a whole.”
The initial dating rumors began back in September 2024
when the two were seen watching the US Open together
While Wilson was originally born in Chicago and lived in Ohio
he moved to Texas and attended Lake Travis High School
Holle went to Westlake High School in Austin
In an interview earlier this year
Holle shared that she recalls seeing Wilson play basketball in high school
mentioned that he saw Wilson arriving at a kids’ day game
Recek asked if he earned bonus points for attending that kind of event to see her
I felt like I needed headphones because it gets so loud in there
I can’t imagine what it sounds like actually being in the crowd.”
The 2024-25 season was Holle’s last in burnt orange
While her coach said she’d like to keep her on as a coach
Holle said she isn’t ready to commit to something like that yet
She said she’s been in Austin her whole life and might choose to move elsewhere to foster her own personal growth
where she and Wilson can continue to grow their relationship
Editor’s note: Follow South Carolina vs. Texas live updates from the Final Four
“Shay is like our glue girl,” Texas senior forward Taylor Jones said

She wasn’t on the court as much as she wanted to be
Her attitude and energy when she wasn’t getting playing time
how you can bring something to a team without being on the floor,” Holle said
just trying to prepare them for our game and just really finding the joy in that and the work.”
and she became known as the player who “does all the gritty work and just shows up with a positive attitude,” Jones said
Holle sat down with Schaefer to discuss her future as a Longhorn
go to a mid-major school and quickly be an all-conference player
not turn the ball over and make an open shot
you'll find yourself on the floor,’” Holle said
Holle spent the following months playing one-on-one with the male practice-squad players to improve her defense
Leading defender Rori Harmon had torn her ACL and was out for the rest of the season
Schaefer needed someone to step up and become the Longhorns’ best defensive player
“She and I would have never dreamed that would happen two years before that
Holle also became a leading defender in her conference
making the Big 12 All-Defensive Team last season
Holle has the mindset of finding joy in whatever role she needs to fill for her team
“To be able to go to the Final Four with Coach Schaefer my last year
“This is something I will remember forever

Shay Holle made her way to the bench with a smile on her face after checking out for the last time
As Texas' season ended Friday against South Carolina with a 74-57 in the Final Four, so did Holle's time as a Longhorn
Earlier this season, she achieved the milestone of becoming the winningest player in program history, something the Austin native never imagined
she always imagined playing for the University of Texas and in five years
Holle came to Texas at the same time as head coach Vic Schaefer
But she wanted to play for Texas and that's what she did

"I don't know what it's going to be like walking in the gym next year and Shay Holle ain't in there
Schaefer raved about Holle for close to five minutes
who had just as much to say about him and her time in a Texas jersey
it's been such a blessing being on this team," Holle said
"That's the best word for it is just a blessing
because not only are they obviously incredible basketball players
but just all of them are such good people and such good friends to me
"I couldn't have asked for a better last year
going to the Final Four with Coach Schaefer and this group
and seeing the work that we put in every single day
and just the program that he's built since five years ago
Schaefer said that if he could keep Holle around as a coach
the pair brought Texas back to the top of college basketball
somewhere it once was as one of the premier programs in sport
While Holle didn't score any points in her final game
something she's been known for doing all season

walks into the gym with a smile on their face
is accountable for everything and anything
You don't forget those kind of kids," Schaefer said about Holle
Holle reached three Elite Eights and one Final Four in five years and won five conference championships
She's set this program up for success and will be present when Texas gets back to the Final Four stage
"I'll be in the stands when that happens
I'll always have a lot of pride in being a Longhorn
she hasn't announced if she has any further plans to continue playing basketball

Texas women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer has made it a habit not to lose consecutive games, and that stayed true Thursday night
Facing Schaefer's former lieutenant Johnnie Harris
Texas bounced back from a disappointing loss to defeat unranked Auburn 74-57
UT is now 17-2 with a 4-1 mark in conference play
The Longhorns were humbled last Sunday, losing 67-50 to No. 2 South Carolina. The newcomers in the SEC faced a hard truth: the Gamecocks still run the conference
"I don't know if it's the response that I really
but it was good enough today," Schaefer said in Thursday's postgame presser
The win was a milestone for Texas guard Shay Holle, who became the program's all-time winningest player in the NCAA era
collected three rebounds and made an assist
but her contributions go far beyond the numbers
More: Why Shay Holle, UT women's basketball's all-time leader in games played, is a dying breed
It wasn't the smoothest win for the Longhorns
Texas jumped out to a double-digit lead by the time the first quarter ended
and it led by as many as 26 points through the second and third quarters
Texas forward Madison Booker had a strong first half after a disappointing performance against South Carolina
making four of her first five shots and four of five free throws for 17 points
the Longhorns' offense wilted in the fourth quarter
The bench finished the game with six points and the lead shrunk to 14 with four minutes left
Schaefer was forced to keep his starters in for the entirety of the fourth quarter to maintain the lead
not what you think you'd see from a mature team
got exactly what we wanted," Schaefer said
HUFF TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME: Texas football's Michael Huff is headed to the College Football Hall of Fame | Golden
teaching and getting them ready," Schaefer said
Auburn was led in scoring by post DeYona Gaston
who transferred from Texas this past offseason
Gaston scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting
but she was completely boxed out on the boards
Texas post Taylor Jones had 15 points and seven rebounds
six assists and four rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting for the Tigers
Texas women's basketball comfortably defeated Southern University 97-39 on Wednesday night
They shot 50.9% from the field with senior Taylor Jones and sophomore Madison Booker leading the team in scoring
Meanwhile, fifth-year senior Shay Holle put up two points
She's been in a slump from distance to start the year
shooting 27% compared to the 37.6% mark she had in the 2023-24 season
More: Texas basketball: Jordan Lee shines while Rori Harmon makes history against James Madison
Holle has never been billed as a leading scorer
A gold member of the "do the little things" club
her ability to adapt to the situation is how she became the program's all-time leader in games played
She reached the milestone after playing versus Notre Dame but was honored on Wednesday in Moody Center
"It's been an honor for me to have her in our program and to watch her invest in her game and learn a new position."
Nothing was given to Holle. Initially recruited by former Texas coach Karen Aston, the Westlake product had no relationship with Schaefer as a freshman
Holle earned more and more of Schaefer's trust until she became known as the locker room "mom."
Having a veteran like Holle around was indispensable to Booker
who was thrust into the spotlight her freshman year after Harmon went down with an injury
when you've been with like a coach for five years
I know what he wants done and how he wants it done
and I know what it feels like to be a freshman ..
it's really nerve-wracking and it's stressful
So I just want to try to help them out as much as I can
because I obviously know how it feels," Holle said
A dying breedHolle is a player Schaefer describes as a "dying breed" in the era of the transfer portal
With money flying around and opportunities for increased playing time and expanded roles
athletes looking to maximize their brief college careers are switching schools at an alarming rate
when free schooling was the main plus to a collegiate athletics career
Holle doesn't criticize the usage of NIL — it's a tremendous opportunity for her and her peers — it's simply not something she likes to rely upon
not necessarily something that would make me leave or go somewhere else," Holle said
There are good reasons to use the transfer portals
But Holle's experience and impact on the younger Texas players is what will hold Schaefer's program together in the future
always being right there for me," Booker said
it's just the little things that Shay does."
Holle is an Austin native and made the decision to come back for her fifth year after Texas fell in the Elite Eight
This season she averages 6.5 points per game
"It's crazy," Holle told Roger Wallace of KXAN after the game. "Growing up in Austin and wanting to come (to Texas) and being able to hold that record is something that I never thought would happen so it's really surreal to be in that moment

Martinez/USA TODAY Network via Imagn ImagesHolle comes from an athletic family as her dad played college football at the University of Texas and her mom played college softball at Angelo State
Both of her sisters played college basketball at Texas State
The 6-foot guard received several accolades last season as she was named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team and received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors in the 2024 season
she was named to the All-Big 12 Academic First Team
Texas' win over Auburn was the 151st game Holle played at Texas and 73rd start
the Longhorns are 60-13 and her all time record in the Burnt Orange is 126-34
All of her Texas games have been played under head coach Vic Schaefer
With the Longhorns she has played in and won two Big 12 Conference Championship games and four NCAA tournaments
Now Holle looks to be an impact player for Texas in her final season and is a key part of a team that is national championship hopeful
Holle will next take the floor with Texas on Monday against No

In its only exhibition game, the Texas women's basketball team rolled to a 98-25 win over UT-Tyler at Moody Center on Thursday night
Leading the way for Texas in the 73-point blowout was senior forward Taylor Jones
who registered 14 points and nine rebounds
Freshman Bryanna Preston added 13 points while Madison Booker
Rori Harmon and Kyla Oldacre all contributed double-digit scoring efforts against an overmatched Division II opponent
But perhaps the biggest news to come out of Thursday was announced just before the game started
Texas opened its exhibition with a starting lineup that featured Harmon
Michigan transfer Laila Phelia also started
The inclusion of Phelia, a senior guard who led Michigan in scoring last season
in the starting lineup meant that fifth-year senior Shay Holle had a reserve role against the Patriots
Holle still played nearly 17 minutes and scored five points
UT coach Vic Schaefer wouldn't say if this is the starting lineup that he'll use all season but he did believe it was a "luxury" to bring Holle off the bench
Holle has ended each of the past three years in the Longhorns' starting lineup
and she played a school-record 1,241 minutes last season
The six-foot Austin native is arguably UT's top 3-point shooter and she earned a spot on the Big 12's all-defensive team last season
Even though the two are conceivably competing for playing time
Holle shared this week that she has a "good relationship" with Phelia
Holle said it is important for her to be a resource for her new teammate
She also added that both players are versatile so Schaefer could potentially play them alongside each other
"I have so much respect for her because she came from a system that she was definitely comfortable in
she was that star player that they look to her for almost everything
Leaving a situation like that and coming here where she knows there are a lot of playmakers
Continued Holle: "I know she's super uncomfortable
I think anytime someone puts themselves in a position to grow and be uncomfortable
I'm always going to help them out in the most way I can
I think that's what makes good teams great is when it's a good competitiveness
We're not comparing ourselves against each other
but we're getting each other better every day in practice
Coach is going to put us in the best position to win
you should be happy with whatever that looks like."
Texas will open its season on Nov. 10 with a home game against Southeast Missouri State
Coming off a season in which it went 33-5 and reached the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament

Gov. Laura Kelly has granted clemency to seven people
including pardons of five people who long ago completed their sentences and commuted sentences for two incarcerated people
The case of a newborn child murder by a teenage mother — which brought attention to the Kansas safe haven law — is the most high profile
Records show that some pardons were for crime committed decades ago
for which the sentences have long since been served
the case was a child sex crime where the victim and the perpetrator were both teenagers
"Granting commutations and pardons is not something I take lightly," Kelly said in a statement
"By vetting numerous applications through a careful and thorough process
it was determined that these individuals have demonstrated their commitment to making amends and positively contributing to society
"In cases where a disproportionally harsh sentence is imposed or a miscarriage of justice exists
commutation can be a tool to ensure reasonable action and a fairer sentence
In extraordinary cases where the criminal justice system failed to account for mitigating factors surrounding an individual's alleged crime throughout the legal process
commutations can give a second chance to individuals experiencing incomprehensible circumstances at the time of their offense."
Not included in the seven clemency cases is that of Sarah Gonzales-McLinn
who is in prison for killing a Lawrence man who allegedly raped her repeatedly
The governor's office has said that her clemency request is under review
Kelly has now granted clemency to 15 people in her time in office. She previously commuted five sentences and pardoned three other people in 2021
Lauren Marie Holle was convicted of second-degree murder
aggravated abandonment of a child and child abuse in Marshall County District Court in July 2010
She was sentenced to a total of 233 months in prison
Holle has been incarcerated at Topeka Correctional Facility since September 2010 and has served 169 months
with an earliest possible parole date in January 2027
Kelly's commutation stated that "the application and evidence submitted in support thereof demonstrate that Lauren M

and the fact that she has already served more time than if her sentences had run concurrently rather than consecutively
has paid her debt to society and has shown that continued incarceration no longer serves the interests of justice and is therefore
Her sentence was commuted to time served as of Friday
Holle was 19 years old when she gave birth to a baby
Holle pleaded guilty to the crimes in 2010, according to an archived press release from then-Attorney General Steve Six
He said that after Holle gave birth to a baby on June 16
she wrapped the child in a plastic garbage bag stowed in her vehicle's back seat
The baby was discovered after Holle's family sought medical attention for her due to bleeding
but died due to lack of proper care or restriction of breathing
"This is a tragedy that didn't have to happen," Six said at the time
"This horrible crime and unnecessary loss of life would have been prevented simply by surrendering the child under the Kansas Newborn Infant Protection Act
All women and their families need to be aware of the safe haven law that exists in Kansas."
That safe haven law went into effect in January 2007
my office has dealt with several cases involving new mothers who killed their newborns
we see women who have hidden an unplanned pregnancy from friends and family and then deliver the child without medical attention."

DeShaun Durham was convicted of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute in Riley County District Court in March 2022

It crystallized what it meant to be a Longhorn when she watched Ariel Atkins and Brooke McCarty run wild in the Big 12 in the mid-2010s
And she still gets giddy talking about how UT coach Karen Aston and the staff invited the Austin Westlake product to come across town “just to chat.”
“I was trying to play it cool a little bit,” Holle said with a laugh
It was no secret it was my dream school and where I wanted to go.”

But Holle and the Longhorns aren’t done winning yet
She made herself into a heck of a college player,” said UT coach Vic Schaefer
who inherited Holle as a recruit to start the 2020-21 season
“You can never question her commitment level
where he two feet are,” Schaefer said
“You cannot put a value on what she’s meant to this program and to me personally and to our development of this program when we came in as a new staff
There’s a great deal of appreciation.”

Playing time is the best true measure of what a coach thinks of any player
Holle finished second in the Big 12 last season in minutes played with 1,242
Think about the stamina alone it takes to average 32.7 minutes out of a 40-minute Division I game
Or the wherewithal to stay out of foul trouble
“I think it’s really just that I focused on being consistent,” Holle said
“I think that is one of the best characteristics you can have in life but especially in sports
(When) the coach knows what he’s going to get out of me
even if maybe my shot’s not falling
I’m going to find another way to help him win in the game
it was definitely a really big trust factor
just (Schaefer) knowing that I knew what was going on and I was going to stay calm and tried to always level-headed
And I think he knows that he’s always going to get that out of me.”
Holle isn’t one of the best scorers in UT history
She may not even join 1,000-point club when it’s all said and done
That’s typically the minimum bar to reach if you want to be in the “best ever” conversation
But there is no statistic for defensive heart
“I can't play you and then you show me
You need to show me in practice.” He values practice habits far more than what happens in a particular game
Holle made that her core mission in burnt orange
“I think I've really focused on that and mastered it in a way of
I will show him every single day in practice that he can trust me,” Holle said
“And I think that comes how it showed on the court
I think that's why he kept me in for so long in all those games
and I think it's just being consistent is always my main focus.”

AUSTIN, Texas — Shay Holle showed up to the University of Texas at Austin back in 2020, not sure how her college career would play out.
“I thought I was just going to be the team player, the culture kid to just go to work and have a smile on their face, which I’d like to think I still am,” Holle said. “It definitely turned into a lot more than I could have ever dreamed about for sure.”
Holle has turned into a starter the past few seasons on one of the best teams in college basketball. She’s been on good teams for all five years at UT and has won a lot of games. Recently, she became the Texas basketball player between both men’s or women’s teams with the most wins in school history. She reached the mark at 126 in the Longhorns victory at Auburn. She’s hoping this current Texas team will be the one to get the program back to the Final Four and possibly a national title.
“We know what we’re capable of and we just need to find that consistency piece now,” Holle said. “We’ve shown it in a few games just how impactful we can be.”
The senior from Westlake High School is enjoying all the moments along the way in her last season of college basketball.
“It has felt a little different going into every practice and every game being like I wonder how many more of these I have left,” says Holle. “I try to have that be positive, like every day just give it my best. It’s a lot of lasts for me and gives me that extra push.”
Holle has helped Texas get off to a 20-2 record this season and has the Longhorns ranked No. 5 in the country.
the senior is set to play her final home game as a Longhorn and all of the emotions are at the forefront of her mind
It has been five years since guard Shay Holle committed to the Texas Longhorns after playing high school basketball just a few miles down the road
grew up about 15 minutes from the Moody Center where Texas plays its home games
including an NCAA Tournament berth at the end of every season
In her final home game of her collegiate career
Holle and the Longhorns faced the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Round of 32
and the senior guard felt "bittersweet" about the matchup
it's definitely going to be a weird feeling
I've really seen them grow and they've seen me grow
I'll definitely be reflecting on a lot

Even though two of her older sisters Brooke and Bailey Holle played basketball for Texas State
the twins will rock Longhorn gear for their youngest sister
Holle joined the program during head coach Vic Schaefer's first year with the Horns. The always animated head coach grew emotional when discussing Holle's impact on the Texas women's basketball program
the value that Shay Holle has brought to our program here at Texas during my five years," Schaefer said
"It's gonna be weird to walk out on the floor and Shay Holle ain't gonna be there..
I just don't know that you can put a value on her because she's done so much for us here..
She's just been as solid as any kid I've ever coached..
I have a great appreciation for Shay Holle."

Ryan Holle was recently released from prison after spending more than half of his life locked up
The ABC Action News I-Team first sat down with Holle two years ago
while investigating the law that put him behind bars — Florida's "felony murder rule"
someone can be sentenced to life in prison even if they did not kill someone
even if they weren't at the scene of the crime
RELATED: Felony murder rule: Life in prison for a crime someone else commits in Florida
I-Team Investigator Kylie McGivern asked Holle in April 2022 how he describes why he is in prison
"I'm in prison because I loaned my keys to my roommate," he said
the morning after a party at his house in Pensacola
Holle said he went back to sleep after telling his roommate he could borrow his car
who said he and three other men were about to break into a friend's home
I would have called the police," Holle told the I-Team
"They were just saying they were going to go rob her mom for a safe that was in her house
that supposedly had drugs and money inside of it."
The men took the safe and beat 18-year-old Jessica Snyder to death with a shotgun
I wanted to tell them everything that happened," Holle told the I-Team
prosecutors argued that the crime wouldn't have happened without Holle's car — "No car
no crime." Holle was sentenced to life in prison
the same sentence as the man who killed Snyder and the three other men who were there
then-Governor Rick Scott commuted Holle's sentence in 2015 to 25 years
giving Holle mercy that led to his release on June 30
I-Team Series | Crisis in Corrections
Sylvia Garnett captured the moment she and her son waited 21 years to feel — Holle walking out of prison
hugging his mom when he met the I-Team near the entrance to Marion Correctional Institution
"Just hugging my mom and getting in the vehicle with her
the I-Team saw Holle taking the small moments he had missed locked up
there's chickens back there," referring to a nearby home
it’s like — you’re so used to looking around all of the time and being cognizant of your surroundings that it’s just – now that I know
Holle said his mom told him from the beginning that if he did what he was supposed to do in prison
meaning stay out of trouble and educate himself
she would do everything she could to fight for him
who now has his Bachelor's degree in Communications
The I-Team followed Holle as he sat down for his first meal at a nearby breakfast spot — banana caramel pecan stuffed French toast with a side of bacon
every day I pretty much did the same thing for years."
Holle's mother Sylvia said she was ready to look ahead
Holle said he will never forget his time in prison
but I know there’s people who have other situations who aren’t blessed like I am
that have these situations where they have no voice for them and they’re still stuck," Holle said
sentenced under Florida's felony murder rule
efforts to cap sentences under that law rather than give life sentences have failed
“We want to get people to know about the felony murder rule
Holle said he wants to be a voice for others
"There’s something inherently wrong with this law that put me in prison where – unless the Governor would have made this move to graciously allow me to get out of prison
and I feel like that's part of where the system failed"
Henry Betsey Jr. is facing charges for marrying three Florida women in three different counties at the same time. Now

TAMPA, Fla. – Shay Holle didn't expect to meet A'ja Wilson when Texas women's basketball went to the Las Vegas Aces star's pop-up for her new Nike signature shoe, the A’One, on Wednesday
they watched a video of Wilson congratulating them on making it to the Final Four
The Gamecocks legend even wished them good luck in their matchup against South Carolina
As Nike representatives apologized that Wilson couldn't be there
Wilson's voice came in through the speakers – then she walked in from the back of the room
"We're all like, 'Oh my gosh' – we were already freaking out just about getting the shoes and getting to see the whole thing," Holle said Thursday during a media day ahead of the women's NCAA Tournament Final Four
very grateful for A'ja and Nike for just allowing us to do that and making it work in our tight schedule
Wilson took time to visit with the Longhorns
SEC Player of the Year Madison Booker was "fangirling for real" when she met Wilson
who Booker has watched since Wilson's college career
Texas senior point guard Rori Harmon said the experience was amazing
She loved the setup – all pink – and she was grateful that Wilson welcomed them with open arms
even with them squaring off against Wilson's alma mater
Harmon is still debating if she's wearing the shoes in the Final Four matchup
But Booker and Holle are planning to wear them when No
1 seed South Carolina (34-3) in the Final Four at Amalie Arena on Friday (7 p.m
The Longhorns got to test out Wilson's shoe in practice Thursday
saying they "felt great." Harmon liked how lightweight the shoes are
and said they're perfect for the way she likes to play
Holle's feet are "kind of picky," but she didn't have any problems
Holle has worn Sabrina Ionescu's signature shoe for most of the season
Texas gets a lot of Longhorns alum Kevin Durant's signature shoes
but Holle loves being able to wear the shoe of a women's basketball player she watches
She followed Wilson and Ionescu during college and still watches them in the WNBA
"That’s someone you really look up to when you’re a little girl playing basketball," Holle said
"So being able to wear their shoes is really cool
People are appreciating and recognizing the women’s game a lot more and the work that they put into it
Wilson is the first Black woman to receive a signature shoe since Tennessee great Candace Parker got a signature shoe with Adidas in 2011
Wilson's shoe means a lot for women's basketball
and she's happy with the direction the sport is going in
"I think that’s why I want to wear the shoes
because that’s big that she got a shoe," Booker said
She went through a lot of milestones in her career just to get that shoe."
Harmon is happy that Wilson is getting the recognition to match her dominance on the court
and said the three-time WNBA MVP is a great role model for young girls and boys
and I'm just glad that she got what she deserved," Harmon said
"I'm just glad that she's kind of the focal point right now
I like that she's basically the face of women's basketball."
