The Milwaukee Bucks and general manager Jon Horst have agreed to a multiyear contract extension
reached a new deal late Wednesday night for the NBA championship executive and 2019 NBA exec of the year before his contract expired
The Bucks have made the playoffs in all eight of Horst's seasons as general manager and have a .647 winning percentage -- second best in the NBA during that span, per ESPN Research. Horst, 42, started in basketball operations roles in Milwaukee and Detroit before being promoted to Bucks GM in 2017
"Just the news I've been waiting for," Bucks coach Doc Rivers said after Thursday's practice
I just am a big believer in stability in organizations
15.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists on 65% shooting
Horst's sometimes bold acquisitions have led to Antetokounmpo signing two extensions with the Bucks -- a five-year supermax contract in 2020 and then a three-year supermax extension in 2023
has yet to lead to the kind of results that Milwaukee envisioned when they made the trade
The Bucks are still searching for their first playoff series win since the first round of the 2022 playoffs
said the connection between the front office and coaching staff is the key to winning franchises
and he lauded his connection with Horst since arriving in Milwaukee
"It's the best connected I've been since I've been in Boston," Rivers said

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst has agreed to a multiyear contract extension
remains as the organization’s lead decision maker
It’s just awesome,” coach Doc Rivers said later Thursday
We have an amazing relationship and it just creates stability
I’m just a big believer in stability in organizations
sits at the top of Horst’s accomplishments
signing Bobby Portis as a free agent and trading for PJ Tucker were Horst’s big moves that helped the Bucks win the franchise’s first title in 50 seasons
Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has been central to the Bucks’ success over that time
and he has agreed to two contract extensions — first
a five-year supermax extension worth $228 million in 2020 and then
another three-year supermax extension worth $186 million in 2023 — with Horst as Milwaukee’s GM
when asked about the importance of the connection between the coach and general manager
“I think it’s the key to winning franchises
This is the best connected I’ve been since I’ve been in Boston — I was pretty connected with (Lawrence Frank) since I hired him — but it just matters so much for coaches
The team starts upstairs first with the front office and coaches
Since Horst took over as the general manager in June 2017
the Bucks have been the league’s second-winningest regular-season franchise with a 412-225 record (.647 winning percentage)
But the team’s lack of playoff success since 2021 left some around the league wondering if Horst’s future in Milwaukee might be in danger if the Bucks fail to make a deep run this postseason
the Bucks have struck a deal with Horst to continue building the roster
Milwaukee has not gotten past the second round of the playoffs since its run to the title
Injuries have played a significant role in the team’s lack of postseason success
An important player — Khris Middleton in 2022
Antetokounmpo in ’23 and ’24 — has been on the sidelines for a majority of the series that they ended up losing in each of the last three postseasons
This season was the first time the Bucks have not had home-court advantage in a first-round playoff series since Horst’s first season (2017-18) in charge of Bucks personnel decisions
And the challenges in front of Horst might never be greater than what he will face this offseason as he tries to keep the Bucks in title contention
Years of pushing for championships and using first-round draft capital to pull off two massive trades for point guards Holiday and Damian Lillard have left the Bucks’ coffers of draft assets nearly empty
The restrictions of the Stepien Rule mean the Bucks still have first-round picks in 2026
but those picks are tied up in swaps with other teams and will likely leave those picks in the back half of the first round
The next first-round pick the Bucks maintain full control over is their 2031 pick
By trading Middleton to the Washington Wizards in February and taking back significantly less salary
the Bucks got under the NBA’s punitive second apron and kept their 2032 first-round pick from getting “frozen” by the new rules
the Bucks can move their 2031 or 2032 first-round picks
starting on the night of the 2025 NBA Draft
The Bucks’ collection of second-round picks is also running low
the Bucks currently own Detroit’s second-round pick (No
which they acquired from the Wizards in the Middleton deal
They also have the rights to what could best be termed a “fake” second-round pick in the 2026 draft — the Utah Jazz’s second-round pick that will only convey to the Bucks if it lands between Nos
56 and 60 — as well as both of their second-round picks in 2031 and ’32
Horst will need to address considerable questions throughout the roster this offseason
Kyle Kuzma and Tyler Smith are the only four players on the roster with guaranteed contracts for next season
and Chris Livingston on non-guaranteed deals
The Bucks have various rights to the rest of the players currently on the roster
that will allow them to sign some of the players to larger contracts than the minimum
but all of those players will be able to act as unrestricted free agents this offseason
With Antetokounmpo continuing to play at an MVP level
Horst will be expected to build a team that can contend for a championship next season
Horst will have to navigate a complicated offseason
and the pressure to get the Bucks back in the title conversation will be significant

The Milwaukee Bucks have extended the contract of general manager Jon Horst for multiple years
the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel learned on April 24
Horst had one year left on an extension signed in October 2021
was promoted to the general manager position in June 2017 after serving as the team’s director of basketball operations
he built rosters that had the NBA’s best record in three seasons
After hiring Mike Budenholzer as head coach and reshaping the roster around the emerging talents of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton in the summer of 2018
the Bucks went 60-22 in the 2018-19 season and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000-01
Horst was then named the NBA Executive of the Year and signed his first extension in June 2019
Following a massive trade for point guard Jrue Holiday in the 2020 offseason, the Bucks won the 2020-21 NBA title — their first in five decades. In October 2021, Horst was extended again, through the 2025-26 season.
Horst first joined the organization in 2008 under former general manager John Hammond
He was promoted after Hammond left for Orlando
The Bucks have made the playoffs in each of Horst’s eight seasons as general manager and have a 412-225 (64.7%) record in the regular season and a 45-36 (55.6%) record in the postseason. The Bucks also won the 2024-25 Emirates NBA Cup.
Milwaukee has been eliminated in the first or second round in six of those eight playoff trips, however, and has won fewer games in each of the last two years.
Horst also has overseen the firing of head coach Jason Kidd (2017), along with the hirings and firings of Budenholzer (2018-23) and Adrian Griffin (2023). Current head coach Doc Rivers was hired in January 2024.
One of Horst’s top accomplishments is that Antetokounmpo signed two extensions (2020, 2023) and Middleton re-signed twice (2019, 2023), keeping the Bucks’ championship window open for nearly a decade.
Along with Holiday, Horst also acquired future Hall of Famer Damian Lillard and contributors such as P.J. Tucker and Grayson Allen via trade. Notable free-agent signings in Horst’s tenure include Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis Jr. and Pat Connaughton.
The franchise's nine straight playoff appearances mark the second-best run in franchise history, behind the 12 from 1980 through 1991.
*Eric Bledsoe was acquired just over a week into the regular season.
The Milwaukee Bucks haven't drafted well since Jon Horst took the reigns as general manager back in 2017
Milwaukee's first round picks include DJ Wilson, who never panned out, Donte DiVincenzo, who has become a nice contributor elsewhere but never reached his full untapped potential with the Bucks, MarJon Beauchamp, who never consistently cracked the rotation and AJ Johnson, who didn't even last a full season with the team before being traded
His second round picks have flashed some potential, such as Andre Jackson Jr. starting for a good chunk of this past season, but still, others like Jordan Nwora, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Tyler Smith and Chris Livingston, the highest-paid final pick of a draft ever
have failed to emerge as second round steals like many hoped they could be
The lack of draft success stories has undoubtedly hurt the Milwaukee Bucks, and with Horst earning a contract extension recently, it's a flaw he must find a way to overcome
the Milwaukee Bucks likely won't be picking too high as long as Giannis Antetokounmpo is in town
they don't need to be to find legitimate talent
One example that serves as a crushing reminder is Indiana's Andrew Nembhard
a second-round pick who just torched Milwaukee in the postseason
the Bucks didn't get any contributions from their draft picks during their recent defeat to the Pacers
With Milwaukee's financial restraints not going anywhere
adding low-cost talent through the draft will become a necessity moving forward
the Bucks will have picks over the next several years
if they decide to keep them and not pursue external talent
something the former Executive of the Year is much better at
The Bucks will have a first-round pick in 2026; it just depends on whether the New Orleans Pelicans want to swap it with their own
They have other picks tied up in swaps with New Orleans
Portland and Washington from trades involving Damian Lillard
They also currently have their own first-rounders in 2031 and 2032
Hitting on draft picks could be the way forward in helping the Milwaukee Bucks balance both their veteran-oriented superstars and young
It hasn't been Horst's strength during his time running things
but he must find a way to bring in more young contributors via the draft when the opportunity presents itself for the Bucks
Stay tuned for more Milwaukee Bucks analysis

Milwaukee's shot-caller has some choices to make
Speculation about whether he wants to stick with the Bucks or compete for a championship elsewhere figures to dominate the news cycle in Milwaukee until he makes a decision one way or the other
John Hollinger of The Athletic is among the pundits to make the case that trading Antetokounmpo this offseason is the best path forward for the Bucks
While he acknowledges it’s not an easy decision
given what Giannis means to the franchise and the fact that the Bucks don’t control their own draft picks for the next several years
Hollinger believes the organization isn’t in position to maximize the remaining years of the two-time MVP’s prime
Eric Koreen of The Athletic
contends that a player’s championship rings have become disproportionately weighed when evaluating a player’s legacy and argues that “time spent together” should be valued more highly than it is
Lillard’s own move from Portland to Milwaukee shows that a trade to a would-be contender offers no guarantees
adding that Dirk Nowitzki‘s career spent in Dallas feels “right” in retrospect even though he only won a single title with the Mavericks
Antetokounmpo wasn’t ready to discuss his future after the Bucks lost Game 5 in Indiana on Tuesday
“I’m not going to do this,” Giannis said when asked if he believes he can win another title in Milwaukee, per Jamal Collier of ESPN
I wish I was still competing and going back and working out.”
As we relayed on Wednesday
Antetokounmpo is expected to meet soon with Bucks management to discuss his and the team’s future
Portis is a guy that can help a lot of teams
and isn’t trash… this team could be the best in the NBA if all healthy
Unfortunately its all based on Embiid and George playing 74-76 gms
but stating that a player’s championship rings have become disproportionately weighed when evaluating a player’s legacy like it’s a new thing is pretty funny
and Steve Nash would like to have a word with you
That’s all you ever hear when any pundits talk about them
I don’t think Giannis would ask for a trade
But at some point Bucks have to look out for franchise
Giannis would definitely bring back a haul
I don’t think Houston would trade Amen for Giannis
A sleeper team to look at here is the Pelicans
They control the Bucks 26 and 27 u 1sts and they have plenty of other 1sts to trade
If the Bucks want to rebuild then it behooves them to work with New Orleans

The Bucks lost in the first round against Indiana last season as well and
given the precarious situation they find themselves heading into this offseason
rumors have hinted at possible changes in Milwaukee should the Bucks indeed get knocked out by the Pacers again
Co-owners Lasry and Jamie Dinan did want Zanik
That search did not yield an outside candidate that all three agreed on
That move has not worked out nearly as well
and it has cost Milwaukee quite a bit of roster flexibility and draft capital
Still, the Bucks haven't wavered on Horst as their top basketball executive. Last offseason, the Bucks reportedly denied Horst permission to speak with the Detroit Pistons about their top job
Horst had previously worked for the Pistons
but Milwaukee kept him in place and Detroit hired Trajan Langdon instead
Now the Bucks have front office consistency heading into an absolutely vital offseason. Starting center Brook Lopez is set to become a free agent
A handful of other important Bucks have player options and
rumors that Antetokounmpo might eventually force a trade still loom large
Either the Bucks will attempt to rebuild a contender around Antetokounmpo and Lillard with limited assets and cap flexibility or they will have to navigate potentially moving on from one or both and resetting this era of Bucks basketball

The Belgian three-dayer has some of the most credible DJs
surreal stages and an art programme you actually want to see
Words: Jade Wickes29th April 2025
it wasn’t much more than an intimate party with 1,000 cap
the festival sees 12,000 people walk through the gates each day of its three-day run
Why did you decide to start Horst? It was about throwing a party on our own terms
but club culture didn’t really seep through into the festivals at that time in Belgium
There were a lot of artists that you could only see playing in clubs
festivals in Belgium would just take place in a big field
inside a tent where they’d just whack a DJ on stage and turn on a few lights
It was all very generic and not really creative
What was the music scene like where you were growing up
but I moved to Brussels eight years ago
There wasn’t really a music scene there
So I often went to Brussels and Leuven
which were the two key cities for clubbing
London – you really start to see the different scenes and what you’re missing in your hometown
We were inspired by lots of different places and tried to distil that into festival form
How has Horst evolved over the last few years? It’s continuously evolving
We’re very DIY and Horst is one of the few independent festivals of this size
most festivals are part of a bigger company
we are still a team that wants to do things differently and we’re always trying to reinvent ourselves
we really rapidly saw loads of interest come from abroad – people from London
which is really cool.Who comes the most?Definitely British people
We don’t hire a company to help build Horst – we do everything with volunteers in the week leading up to it
and a lot of people travel from overseas to come and do that
which has been a great word of mouth way to get more people to come
Volunteers go home and tell their friends about the whole experience and the next year they come back
Tell us about the line-up for this year… We always have a mix of homegrown talent
this reflects the inspiration we take from scenes in London
Then we also get smaller acts to play big slots rather than just having locals opening a stage
It’s about seeing which DJs work well in clubs and whether it would work to bring them to a festival
This affects how we design the stages – they’re basically miniature clubs
Curating the line-up is always based on good feeling – that is the most important thing
but I also want to do something new each year and keep surprising them
There is one stage that’s always played really hard and fast trancey stuff
Some people wouldn’t even look at the line-up
they’d just stand there for three days and know they’d have fun
This year I’ve done a complete overhaul of that stage with a completely different genre
but I’m convinced people will be pleasantly surprised
surely you’re keen to discover something new
right? What is the Horst vibe going to be this year? There will be two key pillars
These genres used to be very male-dominated
there’s a lot of female energy that’s breathing fresh life into things. What are you most proud to have achieved with the festival? When people say they don’t even look at the line-up – they just buy the ticket anyway
They have confidence in us to deliver a good time and for Horst to help them escape the harsh realities of the world

a onetime head of the International Monetary Fund who became a popular German president before stunning the country by resigning abruptly in a flap over comments about the country's military
died Saturday morning in Berlin after a short illness
the office of current German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a statement
Köhler was little known to most Germans and a stranger to front-line politics before he won the presidency
His nomination was greeted by the mass-circulation daily Bild with the headline "Horst Who?"
he built up high popularity ratings once in the job
something that he achieved in part by positioning himself as an outsider to the country's political elite
He occasionally refused to sign bills into law due to constitutional concerns and didn't always make himself popular with the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel
whose choice he was for the presidency — a largely ceremonial job but often seen as a source of moral authority
Köhler was elected before Merkel came to power
at a time when Germany was struggling to come to terms with labor market reforms and welfare state cuts
He said Germans must not rest on past achievements
and said he was "deeply convinced Germany has the strength for change."
Köhler agreed to dissolve parliament and grant struggling then-Chancellor Gerhard Schröder an unusual early election
He declared that Germany faced "giant challenges" and that "our future and the future of our children is at stake."
but nearly blew a huge poll lead after her talk of deeper reform turned off voters
Köhler also talked less of economic change in later years and was strongly critical of financial markets during the banking and economic crisis — describing them as a "monster" that hadn't yet been tamed
Amid criticism that he appeared to have little to say after winning a second term
Köhler resigned in dramatically abrupt fashion on May 31
He cited criticism over a radio interview he gave following a visit to German troops in Afghanistan
he said that for a country with Germany's dependency on exports
military deployments could be "necessary ..
That was taken by many as relating to Germany's unpopular mission in Afghanistan
although his office later said he was referring to anti-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia
Many wondered whether that was the real reason for the sometimes thin-skinned Koehler's resignation
with critics speculating that he had simply become fed up with a lack of backing from Merkel — for whom his resignation was an embarrassment
Köhler won praise for trying to draw attention to the needs of Africa
He became the second German president to address Israel's parliament
telling the Knesset: "I bow my head in shame and humility before the victims" of the Holocaust
Köhler also paid attention to relations with eastern neighbor Poland
making it the first foreign destination of both of his two terms and saying he would like the country to become as important a partner for Germany as France
the son of ethnic German farmers from Romania
His family fled to Germany after the war — first to Leipzig in what became communist East Germany
Köhler had a long record as an efficient behind-the-scenes official
he worked for more than a decade in the Finance Ministry under Chancellor Helmut Kohl
who once called him "a treasure" and relied on him in economic diplomacy
He helped draft the legal framework for Europe's single currency
and played a role in negotiating German reunification in 1990
He later served as president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
Köhler emerged as Schröder's backup choice for the IMF leadership
He won American support after Berlin's first candidate
was rejected by the United States as too lightweight
Treasury Secretary John Snow later praised Köhler's tenure
saying that "he transformed the institution in terms of its transparency ..
and worked to develop better crisis prevention tools and more effective crisis management."
brought him back to Germany as her surprise choice for the presidency four years later
securing his election by a parliamentary assembly
In a letter of condolence to Köhler's wife
President Steinmeier wrote Saturday that "many people in our country will mourn with you
For in Horst Köhler we have lost a highly esteemed and extremely popular person who achieved great things — for our country and in the world."
his belief in the strength of our country and in the energy and creativity of its people that won him so many hearts
But it was also his often clear and by no means always comfortable admonitions and speeches that won him recognition," Steinmeier wrote

!K7 founder Horst Weidenmüller was a hero of underground music
when the idea of “underground music” is often co-opted by PR companies and brands
But to look back at Weidenmüller’s life and work is to see a true stalwart of independent
a legend who never lost sight of the community spirit that animated his vision of the underground
What started as his “X-Series” quickly evolved into Weidenmüller’s most famous creation, the DJ-Kicks series. DJ-Kicks is synonymous with dance music, an institution that Resident Advisor had no qualms about naming “the longest-running and most popular commercial mix series in the world.” Over two decades on from the inaugural edition in 1993
it remains a crucial archive of dance music’s history and perhaps the highest CV accolade for any aspiring DJ
“DJ-Kicks is some kind of documentation of the history of electronic music and its participants from the last two decades and moving forward,” Nieuweboer says
But while it’s easy to wax lyrical about the series—indeed
we do exactly that below—it only represents a portion of Weidenmüller’s vision
!K7 created its own ecosystem of independent music
and as the label went on to become a home for all sorts of electronic music
part of what made Weidenmüller such an essential figure was his dedication to the community that birthed it
Whether advocating for his own label or brainstorming collective solutions to the disruptive effects of Napster
he never lost sight of his commitment to the underground
Nieuweboer sheds light on these efforts: “Around 2000
IMPALA (Independent Music Companies Association)
and Horst quickly realized that we as a community can only reach our goals when we stand together
who neglected to pay independent labels any compensation for the usage and broadcasting of their videos
After a realization of the threat to take down all videos
they quickly turned around and agreed on a compensation model.”
Weidenmüller’s initial success in advocating for the collective value of independent labels grew his resolve, and he continued to fight against the monopolization and homogenization of the music industry amid the rise of platform capitalism. To that end, he was one of the founding members of MERLIN
another collective of independent labels that included Beggar’s Group and Sub Pop that fought for better payment and contracts with direct-streaming platforms
In the past few years, Weidenmüller had set his sights on new territory, becoming a staunch advocate for environmental sustainability in the music sector; his was one of the first independent labels to hire an in-house climate team and to confront industry greenwashing
Weidenmüller’s death at the too-young age of 60 is a tragedy that was felt all over the music industry
While it is impossible to truly grasp the extent of his legacy
below we attempt to scratch the surface with some essential releases from the extended !K7 world
Ask any DJ or electronic music producer for their favorite DJ-Kicks mix and you’ll get a different answer
from the synthetic soul of Detroit to the broken bass of London to the euphoria of European festivals
Anything like an objective “Best of” list is impossible
but here are a few crucial mixes from the catalog
There will never be another duo like Kemistry and Storm
This mix was released just three months before the tragic passing of Kemistry and it showcases the two of them at their absolute finest
The first (and only) drum & bass release in the series
it is an adrenaline-filled rollercoaster trip through a genre that was still defined by dark clubs and even darker basslines
The mixing feels alchemical across the mix as the two slam through records that have all now ascended to the pantheon of classics
I was 15 when Tiga‘s DJ-Kicks came out
but an older friend’s brother had the CD and would play it while driving us to school in the morning
but the mix felt like a portal into a completely alternate future made of polished chrome surfaces
While the type of Gigolo electro house that Tiga made is a bit trite now
at the time it truly sounded like a broadcast from the coolest person in the world
What has made the DJ-Kicks series so endearing is the fact that Weidenmüller gave DJs the platform to play it as straight or as strange as they liked. James Holden‘s mix takes the latter approach
fusing disco-flecked house with his own tunes and remixes (his Mogwai remix can still send a dancefloor into a tailspin)
The mix itself is a masterclass in just how far someone could push the envelope
the record offers a window into the dance music oddball’s soul
House music, at its Platonic best, is meant to make you feel good. At least, that’s Honey Dijon’s approach to genre in her recent entry into the series
The mix is fairly straightforward and linear in its approach
but there is a remarkable attention to detail and mood as she connects the dots between house music’s past
In the age of the algorithm-created playlist
Dijon’s music is a reminder of how intimate knowledge of a genre’s DNA will always be secondary to that ineffable hunt for “vibe.”
While !K7 is inseparable from DJ-Kicks series
the latter has never outshone the label’s own prolific output
Weidenmüller was instrumental in championing all varieties of dance music
Originally released on !K7 in 1995 and digitally reissued by Acacia in 2021
Kelli Hand’s debut album is as timeless as house records come
There is something particularly elastic about the way K-Hand approaches production; the drums don’t hit as much as they bounce across the stereo field
and many of the synths sound like rubber bands contorting into alien shapes
Throw in a couple of down-and-dirty acid lines with the occasional disco sample and each of these tracks sounds as good now as it did then
Long before Spotify figured out a way to monetize moods, there were the quintessential tastemakers of laid-back groove: the Viennese duo Kruder & Dorfmeister
The K&D Sessions comprises two original tracks by the duo as well as 19 remixes
K&D’s take on Bones Thugs N’ Harmony’s “1st of Tha Month,” and a collaboration with stoned dub kings Rockers Hi-Fi among them
The collection masterfully explores the full spectrum of downtempo and funky
Held together by the pair’s charming sense of humor
it’s a masterpiece of easy listening that’s anything but background music
It’s easy to see what Weidenmüller saw in Cobblestone Jazz
The group approached house and techno somewhere between a jazz improvisation group and a punk band
The group didn’t miss on their run of releases for the label
but 23 Seconds remains a fan favorite for that delicate
almost ballerina-like arpeggio that coasts in and out of “Saturday Night.”
If you need proof that Weidenmüller never took his foot off the gas, Plot Twist, is exihibit A. The shapeshifting, genre-agnostic, queer disciple of the bass, CCL
turned in their debut solo release for the label late last year and immediately drew a line in the sand
Every song is filled with intricate sonic detailing that moves from the terrestrial to the bodily
There is often a sense that dance music is static and regressive
but CCL’s record is a reminder that there is still plenty of uncharted territory
A parting note—we’d be remiss not to mention Weidenmüller’s eventual team-up with Strut
and oddball tunes; they were brought under the !K7 umbrella in 2008
expanding Weidenmüller’s wonderful and strange world as a result

It’s a meeting that takes place every year
but the upcoming version will be anything but routine
if Antetokounmpo decides he needs to leave Milwaukee to be part of a title contender
it will have enormous ramifications for the franchise and the league
It’s easy to see how he could reach that conclusion after Damian Lillard suffered a torn left Achilles in Game 4 of their playoff series
The recovery process usually takes a year or more
so Lillard is unlikely to play next season
but his $54.1MM salary will remain on the team’s books
along with a $58.5MM player option for 2026/27
That and a shortage of draft capital will limit the Bucks’ ability to improve the roster this summer
Antetokounmpo, who won a title with Milwaukee in 2021, is determined to capture at least one more before he retires. Collier notes that he discussed that topic earlier this month on a podcast hosted by his brother
“Me not having a second championship — I look back at my career and everybody can say
if I am not able to help my team win a second ring
I’m letting down myself,” Giannis said
in which the Bucks squandered late leads in regulation and overtime
But he was easily the best player in the series
14.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists on 62% shooting
as he was healthy for the playoffs for the first time in three years
Collier points out that Antetokounmpo has shown loyalty to Milwaukee whenever he’s had a chance to leave
signing a super-max extension in 2020 and another deal in 2023 that runs through the 2027/28 season
the team enters this offseason in a much different position
and Antetokounmpo may determine that his best chance to win is to go elsewhere
That statement from him comes off as a bit out of touch
“I have one championship so I don’t care if we lose.” Oh yea that sounds soooo much better
If he was being honest he would have said negative feedback about Kuzma…
the two Championship comment kinda suggests that a trade request is coming soon
aging roster and $50M+ in dead cap money via the Dame injury
Giannis know this team is closer to rebuild than to competing
He’s been loyal to the Bucks and helped win the team a Championship
He’s earned the right to want to go to a team more likely to contend in the near future at this point
Amidst the anxiety of being down 0-2 to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks shared the news that Jon Horst has been signed to a multiyear extension:
Horst has been GM of the Bucks since 2017 after spending nine years here as the Director of Basketball Operations (and a hot year in Detroit as the Manager of Basketball Operations)
you might have noticed that the Bucks have been pretty successful
racking up a hefty win percentage and a little ole championship
Horst played a big role in acquiring the pieces needed for said championship
and he won Executive of the Year in 2019 as those pieces began to coalesce
There have been varying levels of quibbles over various aspects of his portfolio
including his drafting (despite limited quality picks)
59% of Bucks fans polled approved of the job that he is doing as the Bucks’ GM—outpacing both Doc Rivers’ performance as coach (unsurprisingly
lol) as well as the current Bucks’ title chances
A large part of that is that one Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a Buck
despite the collective frothing of the association’s vultures
The Bucks are in a tough spot in this series and heads very well may roll based on how the rest of the playoffs goes
And we here at Brew Hoop are no monolith in our views of Horst
with some giving him laurels and some advocating for him to follow Jae Crowder and others out the door (perhaps the Shanghai Sharks are looking to fill out their front office)
But some of us—and more importantly the Bucks organization—believe that he is a net positive or at least low on the list of issues that this team faces
We congratulate Horst on his extension and will continue our vigilant examination of his tenure
the widely respected founder and CEO of the prominent Germany-born independent music company !K7
The company confirmed the news in a social media post today (February 10)
noting that “after a serious illness,” Weidenmüller “has left us far too soon”
The statement from !K7 continued: “His vision
and dedication shaped !K7 since 1985 into what it is today
and his legacy will continue to inspire us
“Beyond his role at !K7, Horst was a passionate advocate for the independent music community. As a long-standing board member of Merlin and IMPALA Independent Music Companies Association
he played a vital role in strengthening and championing the independent sector on a global scale
His contributions have left a lasting impact on the industry and will not be forgotten
We will honour his memory by carrying forward the work and values he instilled in us
“!K7 remains committed to continuing his vision with the same passion and integrity that he embodied
We kindly ask to respect his family’s privacy at this time.”
!K7 originally started as a music-video production company working with artists like Nick Cave and Mudhoney
it launched the DJ-Kicks mix series following on from several X-Mix albums
culminating in the release of DJ-Kicks: Kruder & Dorfmeister
as well as collaborations with artists like Peggy Gou
and his legacy will continue to inspire us.”
and expanded in 2001 with the specialist London-based label Strut joining the group
followed by Eternal Source of Light and Soul Bank Music
while growing its artist and label services
!K7’s global presence has grown to include offices in New York and London
in addition to its flagship office in Berlin
The company has released music ranging from Sun Ra
The company also recently received achieved B Corp status
In December, Weidenmüller was named as the recipient of IMPALA’s Outstanding Contribution award
IMPALA said that it decided to recognize Horst Weidenmüller at a recent board meeting
acknowledging his “crucial role” in the European independent sector and a career spanning close to 40 years
advocating for the value of independent music rights
Commenting on receiving IMPALA’s Outstanding Contribution award
Weidenmüller said at the time: “I am touched to receive IMPALA’s award
!K7’s culture and values translates into all of my work
inclusion or digital and beyond.”Music Business Worldwide

The Bucks put their confidence behind their GM
The Milwaukee Bucks and general manager Jon Horst have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported
The franchise has made the playoffs during all eight seasons of his tenure while posting a .647 winning percentage
Horst’s top achievements in Milwaukee include winning the 2021 NBA title and NBA Executive of the Year in 2019
Charania recounted some of the biggest moves Horst has made in the Bucks front office
including his 2023 offseason trade for Portland Trail Blazers legend Damian Lillard
the architect of the Bucks’ 2021 championship — their first in 50 years — has made several signature transactions as the leader of the franchise’s basketball operations
he led the hiring of head coach Mike Budenholzer and signed Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis as free agents
and then he landed Damian Lillard in a blockbuster deal right before the 2023 NBA season
The Bucks finished the regular season with a 48-34 record, landing them the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference for the NBA Playoffs
Milwaukee is behind 2-0 to the Indiana Pacers in their first-round series
Game 3 is scheduled to tip off Friday evening in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Bucks general manager Jon Horst said trading franchise cornerstone Khris Middleton after 12 seasons in Milwaukee was "the hardest transaction" he has made as an executive
but did so to "maximize the window" for a championship
"It's still the awesome responsibility to try to take this franchise and maximize the window that we have now as best we can," Horst told reporters Monday night, before his team's 125-111 loss to the Golden State Warriors
"What we think gives us the best chance to win
and figure out how to continue winning going forward
There's a very narrow set of opportunities that we felt that we could do that
had been with the Bucks since the 2013-14 season and was part of the 2020-21 championship team
he missed the first 21 games of this season after undergoing offseason surgery on both ankles and has been slow to regain his form -- he's averaging his fewest points (12.6) since his first season with the Bucks and was playing his fewest minutes (23.2) since he was a rookie
Horst said Middleton's availability did not have much impact on his decision to make the move
I think we're deeper in the spots we needed to be deeper," Horst said
"This gave us an opportunity to diversify a little bit
to kind of put money and talent and roster spots in other places where I thought we needed help."
Though the Middleton-Kuzma exchange was the headliner
Horst said he did not view the deal as a comparison of the two players
but instead as a chance for the Bucks to build a more well-rounded roster
Milwaukee also acquired Sims for more frontcourt depth and added guard Kevin Porter Jr. in a separate deal
allowing them to be active on the buyout market for the rest of the season
although that's the easy thing to do," Horst said
"It's the team before the trade deadline and the team after the trade deadline
and to be determined with an open roster spot
that we felt like in totality we positioned ourselves to have a better run this year
That doesn't do anything to diminish the three-time All-Star
everything that Khris Middleton was for this franchise for over a decade."
the Bucks got below the second apron of the collective bargaining agreement
which gives Milwaukee more flexibility to improve its roster
Horst acknowledged that as an added perk but not the driving force behind the trade
"We believe that this gives us a better chance to win this year," he said
"It happens to also put us under the second apron
which gives us some benefits going forward
And we'll hopefully maximize those benefits
his assist numbers and box score stats may not always show his impact
but he just passes to move the ball," Horst said
"He's up there with Giannis in terms of effectiveness and efficiency and frequency and transition
There's a big gap between Giannis and the rest of our team and that statistic
So another player that can get out and go with a ball
I think we strongly believe that he's in his prime
"We can see better basketball from Kyle Kuzma than we have the last couple of years
Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker
and the Bucks have made several trades in the last few years to try to get that done
in each of the last couple of years has yielded mixed results
The Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season
they find themselves down 0-2 to the same Pacers team that took them out of the playoffs a year ago
despite Antetokounmpo putting up great numbers

the Bucks decided to give GM Jon Horst a contract extension
despite this team struggling in the playoffs
Fans did not have a good reaction to this news
ripping the organization for making this decision while they struggle to win a playoff game
can anybody explain to me how this makes any sense at all
An absolute abomination….Jon Horst has done his best to destroy the franchise every move he’s made since acquiring Jrue Holiday has depleted our assets or taken the Bucks further from a championship
Some fans even wondered if the extension could somehow be voided if they end up losing Antetokounmpo because he demands a trade out of the organization
Is the extension voided if the Bucks lose Giannis
It's hard to blame fans for feeling this way based on recent results
The Bucks have not been able to replicate the success of the 2021 championship
Horst was the architect of that 2021 team that won the franchise's first title in 50 years
He deserves a massive amount of credit for doing that
Fans won't be happy with this result unless the Bucks are able to come back and win this series against Indiana

If Horst does end up trading Antetokounmpo
he had better only do so because he asked for a trade
this could turn into a Nico Harrison situation
Horst knows that time is running out before Antetokounmpo gets too frustrated and asks out
He needs to surround him with players who can help him win more titles as soon as possible
Horst is a former Executive of the Year and is still one of the youngest general managers in the NBA

Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst talks about the firing of coach Adrian Griffin before an NBA basketball game against the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday
Milwaukee Bucks’ Khris Middleton is fouled by Memphis Grizzlies’ Brandon Clarke during the first half of an NBA basketball game Sunday
drives the ball past Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels (5) during the second half of an NBA basketball game
Trading Middleton to the Washington Wizards brought forward Kyle Kuzma to Milwaukee and put the Bucks under the second salary-cap apron
giving them the flexibility to make other moves during the offseason
The Bucks entered Monday fifth in the Eastern Conference standings
Horst said getting under the second apron wasn’t a primary concern for the Bucks
He said he believes the moves he made last week should make Milwaukee more dangerous this season
adding that ownership didn’t ask him to lower the payroll
“They’ve done nothing but resource this team and want to win,” said Horst
What do we do to try to win this year?’ And we believe that this gives us a better chance to win this year
It happens to also put us under the second apron
which gives us some benefits going forward.”
The biggest move sent one of the most accomplished players in Bucks history out of town
“It has to be the hardest thing transactionally that I’ve ever done
Horst said he didn’t consult with Antetokounmpo about the trade
Antetokounmpo referred to Middleton as a brother but said he understood the business side of the move
“I’m willing to live with him either agreeing or disagreeing with it and whatever the aftermath of that is because it’s my job,” Horst said
“And this time around it wasn’t the right thing to talk to him about it
And I also have not talked to him about it afterwards yet
It’s a business and my job’s really hard a few times a year
Horst said Middleton’s health played only a “minimal factor” in his thought process at the deadline
The Bucks also sent 2024 first-round pick AJ Johnson to Washington
The trade also included draft compensation for both teams
Horst said he believes the Bucks improved by getting deeper at the spots they needed to address
with the ability to play at least four positions on offense and three on defense
“He just plays with a pace and a speed and athleticism that we think will really help us against the teams we have to beat in the playoffs,” Horst said
The 29-year-old Kuzma is shooting 41.6% overall
28.2% from 3-point range and 60.8% on free throws — all career lows
Horst noted that other players have improved their percentages once they get to Milwaukee and get better shots from playing alongside Antetokounmpo
He believes Porter also can become more efficient
“I think we have taken bets in the past and brought people into a culture with great veterans ..
and we feel like we’ve helped people,” Horst said
“I think we have an opportunity to help Kevin Porter continue on the path of what he’s on

HORST Engineering President and CEO Scott Livingston shares what makes his leadership style successful
the accomplishments he’s the most proud of
where he see his company in the next five years and more
Q: What is one lesson or insight you’ve gained in leadership that you haven’t widely shared before but that has been a key part of your and/or your company’s success
Livingston: “My leadership approach is borne out of my experience with family business
It’s hard to explain how much knowledge you absorb when you grow up in an entrepreneurial family
You soak in the knowledge without even realizing it
When people ask me why our family is high functioning and harmonious
I cite the humility of my father as one of the keys
He was fortunate to experience the transition from Generation 1 to Generation 2 as the successor and that informed him when it came time for our transition from Generation 2 to Generation 3
My leadership approach is a blend of styles learned from my grandfather
plus many fantastic nonfamily team members and was able to develop my own approach
our family business consultants helped me understand an important lesson
My grandfather put business in front of family and then ranked his personal well-being last
then the business and their personal well-being last
but I learned early on that if I focused on my personal success
Q: Can you share a quote or mantra that defines your approach to leadership
How has this mantra influenced your decision-making and leadership
Livingston: “‘Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.’― Dr. Seuss, ‘The Lorax.’ I keep several copies of ‘The Lorax’ in my office and around the factory
has the potential to create unintended environmental side effects
making it challenging to achieve true sustainability
This ethic was espoused by Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia
I apply the mantra to my conservation- and environmental-oriented mindset
but also to my broader philosophy about business and leadership
The idea is embedded in HORST Engineering’s core purpose that includes the phrase ‘we help people fly safely,’ as well as in our core values.”
Q: What accomplishments at your organization are you the most proud of and why
Livingston: “I’m proud of our family business ownership model that has lasted three generations
Our values are built into the DNA of the culture
I’m proud of the people who have been promoted to positions with more responsibility because they are making an impact
I’m most proud of our incredibly high quality
We are constantly striving for zero defects
That is a lot harder to achieve than most realize
We manufacture some of the most precise small parts from the most difficult materials
in quantities so low that it would seem impossible to succeed
Q: Where do you see your company in the next five years
We emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic with a renewed focus on process improvement and diversification
launched a factory expansion and then the aerospace industry got hammered by the pandemic-induced recession
we are well-positioned with a new factory completed in 2021 that has room for growth
We are investing heavily in people development
Aerospace and defense will remain the mainstay of our part offerings
but success will be achieved when we balance that with business from other mission-critical industries
Even though our product portfolio is a crazy mix of low-volume parts
we will find ways to automate and streamline
we will be doing career pathing while graduating people from our own training programs
This includes critical roles like CNC machinists and quality inspectors
We will build a company that is more resilient to future down cycles
Q: What are the past three books that you’ve read or podcasts that you’ve listened to that you would recommend to your peers and why
Livingston: “I absorb a lot of content from all angles on a variety of topics
Books I’ve read or listened to recently are ‘Titan,’ ‘The Boys in the Boat’ and ‘Unreasonable Hospitality.’ ‘Titan’ is the fascinating life history of John D
lent his copy of ‘The Boys in the Boat’ to me
It’s about the 1936 Olympic gold medal–winning crew from the University of Washington
The Great Depression–era history was fascinating
I’ve had a long endurance sports career and draw inspiration from stories like this
‘Unreasonable Hospitality’ taught me some wonderful business lessons related to people management and customer service
Three highlights include ‘The Rich Roll Podcast,’ the ‘Consummate Athlete Podcast’ and the ‘Check 6 Podcast.’ The first is about many things
but you could generally refer to it as ‘personal development.’ The second is specific to endurance sports
The third is one of my favorite aerospace industry shows
and I just listened to a multi-podcast series on Freakonomics Radio about the insane cost of higher education and the college admissions process
Our oldest child is a high school senior and in the middle of this process
and I found the topic to be super-interesting.”
