See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy teachers and other community members stated in a message posted to Facebook Parents and faculty of Casa Grande High School are indignant over the school’s response to a Feb 17 incident in which two assailants in ski masks barged into a classroom and attacked a student during class before being chased off by other students The morning assault — which prompted an email to parents and students from Principal Dan Ostermann later that day – turned out to be part of an ongoing feud between students and did not result in serious injuries to the victim or why no lockdown or earlier announcement was made Community members have since taken to social media to decry what they characterized as a chronic lack of proper communication or adherence to established school safety protocols Casa administration shifted blame to teachers for not issuing bathroom passes correctly and not being able to tell when a student is lying about having a phone with them or not,” a group of parents teachers and other community members stated in a message posted to Facebook last Friday In a separate “Call to Action,” also posted by parents on their Facebook pages the same group of community members indicated this was an ongoing problem at Casa Grande stating that “we have already been through this – when the school received bomb threats earlier this year from ever calling 911 — even in a life and death emergency … and that policy only changed this year via external pressure.” both messages were developed by “Several folks … concerned community members Inden was among those demanding change at the school accusing its administrators of failing to follow the district’s own guidelines in the case of dangerous events Police were called to the campus immediately after the incident and arrived quickly said Petaluma police Deputy Chief Brian Miller Miller said the assailants wore ski masks concealing their faces and entered the classroom the morning of Feb Although they were not apprehended immediately the assailants were determined to be students rather than outsiders and authorities “had both the juvenile offenders in custody (the following) Tuesday afternoon.” Both suspects were taken to Juvenile Hall for processing Because the incident was a campus fight involving minors police did not believe a general alert was warranted He added that whether the campus should have been locked down in the wake of this incident was a decision best made by school and district administrators Miller acknowledged that “the masks contribute to the anxiety” around the assault He noted that while it was not expressly gang-related the incident did involve an ongoing conflict between students and that the perpetrators appeared to be at-risk teenagers who were “emulating gang activity.” When it comes to students leaving class to put on ski masks and attack a student in another class “And I think there were a couple of fights earlier in the week” leading up to the assault Principal Ostermann supported that narrative in the two emails he sent to Casa Grande parents and students — the first on Feb “We believe this incident is directly related to a fight that took place between the students on (Feb.16) after school,” he wrote in the Feb “We take this violation of our campus safety very seriously,” he continued “and appropriate school consequences will take place for the students involved Repairing the harm done to our community and eliminating this type of unacceptable behavior is a top priority.” Ostermann did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Argus-Courier noted that while it wouldn’t be obvious to non-staff teachers and administrators working at the school guessed right away that the assault on the student was conducted by the same fellow students involved in the fight the day before Although it took a few days to get the perpetrators to admit to it “We had a very good sense of who it was from the very beginning.” Harris also addressed the one-time rule at Casa Grande disallowing teachers from calling 911 explaining that it was a holdover from when cellphones didn’t provide information on where a call was coming from – meaning 911 dispatchers had trouble responding to calls made from cellphones “School staff should feel empowered to call 911 if the situation warrants it,” Harris said when it comes to communication around the incident Ostermann’s two emails were not nearly enough Asked on Monday what she would have liked the school to have done differently in response to the Feb the school went on a brief lockdown after a homeless man entered the campus and tried to access one of the doors Police arrived and escorted him off the school campus Harris had a similar response to the same question it would have happened just like what happened today on campus We would have put the school on lockdown,” he said On Tuesday, Harris sent out a district-wide message further detailing the incident and addressing safety concerns at Casa Grande we have concluded that it is justified to initiate a lockdown in the future if something like this were to happen again on one of our campuses because we want to be abundantly cautious when it comes to the safety of our students and staff,” he wrote noted that the sheer frequency and variety of threats faced by schools makes it hard to balance school safety with a desire to not panic students “It’s difficult being a school administrator these days,” he said Don Frances is editor of the Petaluma generation of “Inden-no-Yamamoto” (Yamamoto of Inden) has been attracting attention for his innovative attempts What is the “new form of Inden” that he embodies Koshu Inden” is a traditional Yamanashi Prefecture craft in which a pattern is applied to processed deerskin with lacquer The word “Inden” is said to have originated from “Indea leather,” which was made in the 1600s by imitating the Indian (Indian) ornamental leather presented to the Shogunate from abroad it is said that deerskin processing began in Japan in the 400s AD Deers have been abundant in Japan’s mountain forests since ancient times and it is said that this is because they were easier to process than cows and horses Deerskin was used for samurai armor after the Onin War (1467-1477) because of its lightness and high strength in addition to its flexibility to fit comfortably in the hand who later became a feudal lord and protector of Kai Province and came to love to use it for armor and “Shingenbukuro,” a deerskin armor pouch This is said to have been the foundation of Koshu Inden a leather craftsman in Koshu invented the technique of lacquering and this led to the production of high quality leather products in Yamanashi Prefecture Koshu Inden became well known throughout Japan when it was awarded a medal at the National Industrial Exhibition Although there have been several places in Japan that produce leather products using lacquer Koshu Inden is the only one where the manufacturing process is still in use today there were several Koshu Inden businesses in Yamanashi Prefecture a Koshu Inden traditional craftsman (general category) is the third generation to inherit the skills of the company he has attracted attention for his innovative activities including collaborations with game companies The history of “Inden-no-Yamamoto” began after the end of World War II when the city of Kofu was burnt to the ground due to restrictions on deerskin leather caused by the shortage of supplies during World War II he found the town of Kofu scorched and transformed He must have seen the burnt-out ruins of Kofu and thought that everything would have to start from scratch My grandfather was determined to ‘rekindle the fire of Koshu Inden once again a subcontractor to a bag manufacturing company in Tokyo and began producing Koshu Inden again while saving money by making school bags Kinnosuke incorporated the rich colors he witnessed overseas into his products and began producing products dyed in colors not found in conventional Inden restrictions on deerskin leather were lifted in 1952 and the number of inden manufacturers gradually increased along with the demand for products leading to the establishment of the Kofu Inden Merchant Cooperative Association around 1975 he passed the certification examination for traditional craftsman of Koshu Inden and began to produce a wide variety of products as the only traditional craftsman in the prefecture who handles everything from processing to decoration Makoto is the only traditional craftsman in the prefecture who handles everything from processing to decoration Instead of the traditional wholesale sales through wholesalers Makoto has shifted his focus to direct manufacturing and sales where he listens directly to customers and develops products he expanded new needs and created new products one after another that were not bound by conventional wisdom combining the techniques he inherited from his predecessors with a rich variety of colors Yusuke looks at the shelves piled with colorful deerskin “The style of giving shape to customers’ voices has been passed down to this day as one of the strengths of Inden-no-Yamamoto,” he says the company is developing products in a variety of color variations Yusuke decided to enter the world of Koshu Inden when he graduated from junior high school was certified as a “traditional craftsman” by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries He had never been interested in Koshu Inden before but he became very curious about the possibilities of Koshu Inden he chose to study commerce at a university outside of the prefecture with an eye toward eventually taking over the family business he entered the family business and began his career as a craftsman in earnest Dyeing: Dyeing the surface of the deerskin by processing and coloring the surface of the minstrel’s skin so that the lacquer will adhere well to the surface Cutting is done to roughly trim the leather to the appropriate size for the product to be made Sewing: Cutting the leather and shaping it into the product Yusuke handles all four of these processes by himself The lacquering process takes only 5 to 6 seconds but he says that he puts his utmost effort into these few seconds “The finish depends on the amount of force I use It is no exaggeration to say that everything is decided here The “Urushi-tsuki” technique is applied by layering hand-carved paper stencils on top of deerskin and brushing lacquer onto the surface with a wooden spatula and lacquer are sold wholesale to craftspeople rather than to consumers Yusuke is concerned that “if the production and consumption of Koshu Inden cannot be sustained the industry of those involved will not be able to survive The relationship between producers of raw materials and craftspeople is truly “hand in hand Holding a finely hand-carved pattern in his hand Yusuke’s expression reflects his sense of responsibility as a bearer of the craftsmanship Lacquer trees used to grow in abundance in Yamanashi Prefecture but due to changes in demand and lifestyles the number of lacquer trees has decreased significantly He and other volunteers are attempting to plant lacquer trees in Hokuto City “We rely on imports from China for the lacquer we use to make patterns but eventually we would like to make products only from Japanese lacquer While it has become more difficult to purchase deerskin from abroad in recent years the number of wild deer in Yamanashi Prefecture is on the rise It is said that about 70,000 Japanese deer live in the prefecture animal damage has become a serious problem in cultivated land the company launched “URUSHINASHIKA,” which competes with Yamanashi Prefecture’s project to prevent beast damage and is working to make effective use of Japanese deer captured as vermin in Koshu Inden He hopes that this will be a breakthrough in securing materials “If it becomes possible to make inden from deerskin produced in Yamanashi Prefecture the prefecture’s traditional handicrafts will gain more depth Yusuke’s desire to continue and popularize Koshu Inden as a bearer and a conveyer of the art is spreading like ripples Inden-no-Yamamoto is brushing up on the policy of his father Makoto who mainly sold his products in department stores and focusing on expanding sales channels through direct orders and sales at the workshop which is one of the company’s strengths corporate collaboration product development The demand for their products ranges from order-made products which can be commissioned even for a single item to the development of cup sleeves in collaboration with a major coffee chain and the production of card holders for government officials Koshu Inden has become well known in the market we are working on new product development so that the appeal of Koshu Inden can be known not only in Japan but also overseas Many people overseas do not like animal products such as deerskin leather from the viewpoint of ethics and environmental pollution during the manufacturing process,” says Yusuke he will release a new brand “obudo (obudo) ®︎” using “ultra-suede,” a leather made from vegetable materials instead of deer skin The company has released a series of products that are animal-free and have a sophisticated design not seen in previous Koshu Inden products “obudo,” will help people to understand the appeal of Koshu Inden to a wide range of people,” and presents a new and free form of Inden that meets the needs of the times The company’s next step is to pass on its techniques to the future While demand for Koshu Inden is increasing it is undeniable that the region lacks power The company is also working to create a foundation for more people to be involved in the business by promoting the use of electronic manuals and the digitalization of paper patterns I would like to broaden the scope of Inden with more free ideas and create products that are demanded by customers and the times,” says Yusuke A strong belief that conveys the backbone and identity of the company A lighthearted attitude that is not bound by molds or stereotypes A soft and flexible imagination that adapts to the needs and lifestyles of the people who hold them in their hands which continue to embody “a new form of Inden,” may be rewriting the future of traditional crafts At the location of the Inden open-cast lignite mine RWE operates a utility-scale photovoltaic plant with an integrated storage system the solar modules are designed to provide 14.4 megawatts of electricity known as “RWE indeland Solar Farm” is the first of its kind for RWE in Europe bringing together about 26,500 solar modules and a battery storage system each about 1.4 kilometres long and about 100 metres wide on a gravel surface on the western edge of the open-cast mine When mining operations conclude at the end of 2029 the area will become lakeside banks and shoreline it will take two decades before water reaches this area – RWE has commissioned a ground-mounted solar project with a capacity of 14.4 megawatts (MW) at the Inden mine in the Rhenish lignite-mining region. The ‘RWE indeland Solar Farm‘ is connected to a battery – the first of its kind But it doesn’t stop there: the project is also a great example of a sustainable interim utilisation strategy for opencast mining sites but once the lignite mining operations have been completed we can put the empty plot to good use with PV systems.” Christian Meisen Project Manager PV Germany at RWE Renewables which had the backing of the German Network Agency The planning application was submitted in 2021 and it only took little more than a year before the 26,500 solar modules were commissioned “The collaboration with RWE itself and the District of Düren was really straightforward which meant we could get on with things quite quickly,” says Meisen Since the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony in early 2022 inverter stations and battery modules have been built on two approximately 1.4 km-long and 100 m-wide gravel strips on the western border of the Inden opencast mine The battery storage unit is what sets the project apart It can store up to 9.6 megawatt hours of electricity enabling it to help cushion generation peaks: “The storage system is designed to store and output electricity over two hour periods This is ideal during favourable weather conditions when more electricity is generated than can be consumed – for example at lunchtime,” says the project manager Once the coal mining operations have been completed the site will undergo extensive recultivation during which RWE will recreate the original landscape and build new habitats “When the Inden opencast mine closes at the end of 2029 the solar modules will be stationed on the edge of a lake the south side of the RWE indeland Solar Farm will need to be dismantled the entire site will be underwater,” explains Christian Meisen The project will pay its way after as little as two decades Ground-mounted solar arrays usually have a service life of around 30 years while most battery storage systems last a maximum of 20 years The plant is therefore a flagship project for the company but also for the structural change in the Rhenish mining area RWE wants to build at least 500 megawatts of renewable capacity in the Rhenish lignite mining region alone Do you want to stay up to date on other exciting topics in the energy transition Always stay informed about exciting topics of the energy transition We encounter energy everywhere – at home, on the street, in the office and on the workbench. Used with Creative Commons permission one of the best places to find them is up north where nature is often both moving and intense German landscape photographer Felix Inden showed us another destination to add to our must-visit list: the Lofoten Islands of Norway which is home to some of the most magical landscapes of the Arctic Circle “When a place is as picturesque as any of the different fjords and mountainous islands that make the Lofoten Archipelago (the name of the islands means ‘feet of a lynx’ originally because of the shape of the archipelago) things become almost too easy as a photographer,” Felix said of how the Lofoten landscapes seem to be made to be photographed “It’s almost as if nature created these places in the most photogenic way potentially possible.” this statement means nothing without any photographic evidence so to speak and Felix does not fail in showing us the splendor of the spots he was lucky to photograph It’s almost like a fantasy land where the skies may be filled by eerie and ominous storm clouds by day and lit by dancing colorful lights by night Even the mornings don’t look ordinary as the sunlight bathes the mountains in the distance with a golden glow even winter in the Lofoten Islands can be a pastel wonderland had a major influence on him as a human and especially as a photographer During his first trips around ten years ago he was simply content to go there for hikes and taking in the majesty of the place But its charms were too breath-taking to resist photographing so he ended up giving in to the urge to capture its beauty I started calling myself a landscape photographer,” he added he has started to look for scenes and shooting conditions that allow him to capture unique and irreplaceable images With more and more photographers going to the same places and creating the same “classic” look for landscape photography the need to create something different has become an important goal for Felix he chases short moments of light that add a different look or flavor to the scene he “hunts” for scenes that he has pre-visualized in his mind made possible by different factors coming together I also just simply react to what Mother Nature has on the menu on the given day at the given place,” he added If you do choose to put the Lofoten Archipelago on your landscape photography bucket list there’s a couple things to learn from Felix’s statement and descriptions be prepared to spend weeks or even months to take just a handful of unique photos look for different conditions to photograph; you may not get what you initially had in mind but what you’re able to capture may surprise you be prepared to go back — again and again Do check out Felix Inden’s website and Behance portfolio to see more of his beautiful landscape work It is still a gravel surface on the western edge of the Tagebau Inden open-cast mine this strip of land will become the banks of a lake But it will be two decades before the first waves hit the shore – time enough to turn the area into a large solar farm with battery storage in the meantime That is exactly what RWE proposed in its winning bid to the Federal Network Agency’s innovation tender.  Some specifics: The federal authority called for bids for a total of 250 megawatts with the aim of enabling particularly ambitious renewables projects to be carried out RWE was successful at this tender: The Federal Network Agency granted RWE a fixed market premium on the solar electricity generated on the banks of Inden lake Now the company will call for quotes for the different components of the planned plant and apply to the Kreis Düren district authority for a building permit In June 2022 the project would then generate and store its first electricity.  The solar modules will be designed to have a peak availability of 14.4 megawatts of electric output The battery storage system connected to the modules will be designed for a two-hour electricity input and output of a total of 9.6 megawatt hours This means it will serve as a buffer between solar electricity generation and the supply network so that the power feed-in can be even better matched to demand The plant at the future lake will be called “PV Hybrid Inden” and will be the first of its kind in RWE’s European portfolio.  COO Wind Onshore & Solar PV Europe & APAC at RWE Renewables: “With the combination of photovoltaics and storage technology in one commercial system we are setting a key milestone as a plant operator in Germany and are gaining valuable experience for the expansion of renewable energies Those who take the initiative here and are successful will play a part in making the energy transition a success.” the Executive Board member with responsibility for lignite at open-cast mine operator RWE Power: “It absolutely makes sense to use temporarily dormant former mining surfaces for solar plants Our recultivation project offers plenty of space for renewables – to ensure that the region remains an energy producer in the future and the structural transformation is successful.”  RWE already operates the indeland-Windpark Eschweiler wind farm very close to the plant’s solar location; this is also a collaboration project with regional partners such as the Königshovener Höhe and Jüchen A 44n wind farms on the edge of the Tagebau Garzweiler opencast mine RWE already operates wind farms in the Rhenish mining region with a capacity of over 300 megawatts RWE is also continuously expanding its international onshore wind portfolio of over six gigawatts the company is also currently constructing onshore wind farms in the US RWE operates two biogas plants with a total of some eight megawatts of thermal output in Bergheim-Paffendorf and at Kraftwerk Neurath (Grevenbroich) power plant.  RWE was also successful with a solar project in Rhineland-Palatinate in the most recent tender by the Federal Network Agency: a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 2.4 MWp is to be built in the municipality of Seesbach (Bad Kreuznach district) German Inden Design has released their take on the Mercedes-Benz S500 creating a S65 AMG the side sills and rear diffuser are combined with daytime running lights The vehicle is completed with the chrome parts The performance increase up to 420hp has been achieved by installing a stainless steel exhaust system with two AMG tailpipes left and right the braking system was converted to the S600 V12 BiTurbo model with six-piston front calipers and four-piston brake calipers The rims in dimension of 10.5 x 20 inch with tires in 265/30-20 at the front and 275/30-20 – at the rear axle were installed as well The final technical change was lowering the vehicle 50mm the headliner at the dashboard and door panel are trimmed with two-color leather in combination with black Alcantara all former wood pieces were replaced with black carbon parts The speedometer change to a 360km/h-scale closes the the way from a sheer rock face The photographer divides his time between trekking in and out of spots both remote and accessible “It is amazing what powerful ideas and emotions nature can invoke,” he muses “There are those magical places that always seem to hold you in your tracks a little longer than usual – be it your first time there or your twentieth these are the places that inspire and that I feel must be preserved.” with the temperature barely breaking the double digits on Vail Pass Inden was tromping around in knee-deep powder in search of something By the look of his 40-pound backpack and weatherproof mountain wear he might have been headed out for some winter mountaineering or maybe a backcountry trip He stopped abruptly and dropped to his knees thoughtfully inspecting the snow in front of him The object of his interest was a lonely clump of branches sticking about six inches out of the snow the branches were bearing the most miniature pinecones entirely covered in sparkling ice crystals “They kind of look like antlers,” Inden says As the brightening sun hit the icy plain around him the entire meadow appeared to be covered with haphazardly strewn diamonds A close-up of these branches with the snow in the foreground It is this kind of eye for detail and thoughtfulness that marks Inden’s photography – anyone else might not have given the meadow a second glance They might have even stepped on the branches Inden works with rather unconventional equipment – a Deardorf large-format camera circa the 1950s that shoots negatives 8×10 inches huge Think of the kind of camera you see in old movies where the photographer has his head under a black blanket an 8×10 camera can create images of extremely high quality so much so that it looks more like what you might see with the naked eye You feel like you could reach out to feel the roughness of grains of sand or the bark of an aspen tree but it doesn’t look anything like I saw it,'” Inden says the idea behind the large-format camera is that the quality can be so good that you feel like you can walk into the photo.” http://www.mattinden.com deployed at the site of an opencast lignite mine in Germany The Germany-headquartered multinational energy company said on 26 April that its project at Inden lignite mine in Duren will go online in “just a few weeks” in late summer this year It will be RWE’s first project in Europe to include a hybrid of solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) technology with 14.4MW of PV generation capacity and 4.8MW/9.6MWh of batteries The BESS will be used to enable the solar-generated power to be fed into the local grid smoothly Germany needs to close its lignite coal mines in order to meet national climate objectives Although the opencast site’s rehabilitation will ultimately see it dominated by a lake the water will take about two decades to reach and fill the pit and RWE saw the opportunity to site the solar-storage plant there in the intervening years The company plans to build at least 500MW of renewable generation assets in the Rhenish lignite mining district that surrounds Inden including 200MW of wind farms already in construction RWE CEO for onshore wind and solar in Europe and Australia Katja Wunschel said that the Inden project represents EU11 million of RWE investment and that the North Rhine Westphalia region is “one of the centres in our growth and innovation strategy” we want to implement every wind and solar project possible and thus help to shape the enormous transformation especially in the Rhenish mining district.” RWE was awarded the project through a so-called Innovation Tender hosted by Germany’s federal network regulator These were first held in September 2020 alongside specific solar with the innovation tranches requiring proposed projects to combine at least two different clean energy technologies each all of the winning bids have been solar PV-plus-battery storage plant proposals German energy storage association BVES’ chief, Urban Windelen, told Energy-Storage.news last year that the tenders and the profiles of winning projects demonstrate the “inextricable” link between energy storage and the achievement of decarbonisation objectives RWE has won Innovation Tender contracts for two more solar-plus-storage projects which together add up to about 30MW of PV and 10MWh of battery storage Each will be DC-coupled to the lithium-ion batteries and use bifacial PV modules The company is also building large-scale battery storage at two run-of-river hydro plants in Germany while abroad it is building some much larger solar-plus-storage plants in the US Inden Design has released a series of photos entitled ‘Haute Couture meets Tuning’ starring the Inden Design Mercedes
