lower tiers of German ice hockey.  The club are based in the city of Ingolstadt which is located in Bavaria they play their games in the Saturn Arena which has a capacity of 4,815 spectators. In the 2008/09 season the team took part in the prestigious Spengler Cup They first played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in 2002 following three seasons of continuous finals appearances in Germany's second tier during which they battled for promotion marking the start of a new era for the club whose traditional colours are blue and white won the DEL championship in 2014 for the first and so far only time in their 50-year history The team went from 9th place in the regular season all the way to the final beating accomplished sides Hamburg and Berlin on their underdog journey The team then made the DEL finals again the following season this time missing out on the silverware.  The club have played in four Champions Hockey League seasons throughout their history qualifying for the inaugural 2014/15 season and then featuring in 2015/16 Their best result to date was making the Round of 16 in 2023 Audi plans to launch an affordable electric car as early as next year the vehicle should compete in the Audi A3 class but could reportedly be moved there in the first half of the 2030s there are hardly any details about the new model Döllner said: “It will be a wonderful and it will be something we can all look forward to.” The question is how a more expensive Audi model can stand out from the VW Group’s well-known MEB models when the platform will effectively no longer be developed further after 2027 the Audi Q4 e-tron has a hard time compared to the VW ID.4/ID.5 and Skoda Enyaq let alone justifying the usual Audi premium price Just last week, Audi announced a cost-cutting package that includes plans to cut up to 7,500 jobs in Germany by 2029 Audi plans to invest around eight billion euros in its German plants by 2029 – mostly in electric mobility the company already mentioned that it wanted to bring a new model from the entry-level segment in Ingolstadt In the interview with the German media outlet sales have recently been lower than at BMW or Tesla “We could probably say even louder how good we already are,” said Döllner emphasising that Audi already has vehicles on the market that can do what other manufacturers are only announcing for 2013 we offer comprehensive coverage of the highest quality — as a central platform for the rapid development of this technology we are continuing to push boundaries’ said Gernot Döllner chairman of the board of management of AUDI AG ‘The E5 Sportback offers the very best qualities of Audi reimagined for and tailored to customers in China.’ ‘The AUDI E5 Sportback is our first model based on the Advanced Digitized Platform and it delivers on our brand promise: the best of both worlds,’ said Fermín Soneira CEO of the Audi and SAIC project ‘Audi’s DNA and engineering excellence is blended with China’s digital ecosystem and innovations specifically tailored for our tech-savvy customers.’ Underneath it’ll use AUDI’s (not Audi’s) new modular platform called the Advanced Digitized Platform it offers better scope for over-the-air updates and fits in neatly with the country’s already huge NEV (new energy vehicle) supply chain it uses 800-volt circuitry for faster charging There’ll be a 100kWh batter and four electric powertrains on offer with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive The flagship motor will hit 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds while range will stretch up to 478 miles though this is presumably CLTC – which is all it needs to be given the car is on sale in China only The E5 gets all the tech it needs to compete in the incredibly tooled-up Chinese market it gets all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension on the handling side but also gets an assisted driving system that includes a LiDAR eleven cameras and several multi-modal sensing units you’ll find digital mirrors flanking a huge 27-inch pillar-to-pillar 4K display Powered by one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 automotive chipsets it promises to be quick to use – partly because of touch gestures and persistent menu items The Audi E5 will enter the market in summer 2025 – once again emphasising the quick pace of the Chinese market – with two more electric AUDI models due in 2026 and 2027 Curtis Moldrich is Kerstin Haag adds: "The teams are given the opportunity to bring innovative hotel concepts to life and try them out." A big step for the Winter School this year was the introduction of a new platform: This year the management simulation was digitally supported by the KU's e-learning platform ILIAS "The teams could create their own fictitious website and communicate via the social media platform 'INGA'" students who were not part of the hotel teams but of the media team took part in the event as the destination management organization "Ingolstadt Insights".  the Winter School at the KU represents a combination of international academic exchange and practice-oriented education that prepares students for their future professional challenges This is reinforced by the involvement of coaches from other universities: For René Arvola from Tallinn University of Technology the simulation is an inspiring and challenging way to show students the effects of economic decisions using a simulation game "Participating as a coach is also a way to keep our network alive." emphasizes how much she believes the Winter School promotes students' creativity: "The Winter School Simulation in Ingolstadt truly an immersive experience for students from any background and gamification supersedes conventional teaching methods offering a unique and engaging educational experience." as an estate But well, we all have to cope with ageing on our own, but before Audi puts an A5 on the fossil-fuelled versions of its most-produced model let's take a look at 30 years of the Audi A4 It sounds absurd even the second time I write it And to reassure us all a little, Audi can't really let go either, not only from the fossil-fuelled drive variants, but also from the Audi 80 back then, because the Ingolstadt-based company presented the A4 as its successor as early as November 1994 it took a few more years before they were able to completely break away from the B4 model with 826,000 units sold.  The Avant was produced until December 1995 In a nutshell: The timeless classic only came to an end in September 2000 A whole six years after the A4 was launched However, the A4 B5 was not just a name change it replaced the dusty 1980s look of the Audi 80 such as the one above the rear lights at the rear of the saloon Although there was hardly any more space inside compared to its predecessor A completely new chassis with four-link front suspension has also been added to Audi's new mid-size class it was also an enormous step up from the 1980s in terms of driving dynamics: crisp because the four wishbones tend to form an intimate non-detachable connection with the steering knuckle The result was that everything had to come out A little tip for classic car enthusiasts: this can be expensive two six-cylinder petrol engines and a four-cylinder diesel engine each with front-wheel or optional all-wheel drive These included the striking 1.8-litre turbo five-valve engine with 150 PS right from the start It was not until 1997 that the 2.5-litre six-cylinder diesel engine was added to the portfolio.  It wasn't until early 1996 that the A4 Avant replaced the Audi 80 as the estate version that my dad adored so much Things got a little sportier a year later with the S4 while the RS4 Avant only joined the A4 community in June 2000 with a 2.7-litre bi-turbo V6 and an impressive 380 PS Over the entire seven-year production period Audi only introduced model maintenance details before the B5 was gradually replaced by the B6 at the end of 2000 almost 1.7 million B5 variants were placed on the market.  The front only changed slightly, but the higher side beltline and the rear in particular adapted to the lines of the A6 The kink disappears and gives way to a more rounded car end the exterior dimensions also grew by a few centimetres in this generation The Avant follows the adapted design language in 2001 with Audi saving an additional eight kilos of weight by using aluminium The twist-beam rear axle gives way to a double wishbone rear axle with independent suspension which was previously reserved for the Quattro the continuously variable "Multitronic" automatic transmission for the front-wheel drive models has been added to the selection lists Further improvements have also been made to safety head airbags have been added to the standard versions The engine range is completed by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 130 PS and a 3.0-litre V6 with 220 PS both with the five-valve technology familiar from the B5 After the Audi 80 Cabriolet had lasted into the new millennium it was finally replaced by an A4 variant from coachbuilder Karmann in 2002 and sent into retirement the sat nav and technology were revised and the optional xenon headlights were replaced by bi-xenon technology The model update that followed in the autumn of 2004 was simply called the B7 by the Ingolstadt-based company. With 108,595 units sold 2001 was the most successful year for the A4 in Germany celebrated its premiere in the A4 at the end of 2004 The front headlights now tapered slimly into the side line The bulbous A6 rear lights disappear again The new variation is narrower and can also be found in two parts in the tailgate seats and the instrument cluster have changed compared to the predecessor.  Audi is once again working on improvements to the suspension brakes and safety equipment - standard and optional equipment remain largely unchanged The only new features are adaptive curve lighting a rain sensor and an automatically opening tailgate The engine range will receive a new 2.0-litre petrol engine with turbocharging and 200 PS which replaces the 1.8 and a newly developed 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine with 255 PS a new 2.0-litre with 170 PS and a 3.0-litre with 204 The popular 2.5-litre TDI is also sent into well-deserved retirement by a 2.7-litre variant with 180 PS an awareness of climate issues slowly manifested itself in the social debate which is why Audi added a particulate filter to its programme at the end of 2005 before it went into series production at the beginning of 2006 these debates also led to the introduction of the 2.0-litre TFSI e Small E for "economy" - it was that simple back then The TDI e received the same "environmental package".    which was launched in 2005 and now has 420 PS In 2006 it was even available as a convertible this "facelift series" came to an end and the B8 took over The fourth-generation A4 celebrates its premiere in 2007 at the IAA when it is still a grand and pompous guest appearance in Frankfurt The Avant followed in early 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show the MLB platform - translating from German to "Modular Longitudinal Matrix" The exterior design is also more of a continuous development in the fourth attempt the lower front has more striking corners and edges with an aerodynamic twist. The front and rear headlights have been relaxed somewhat the exterior mirrors now come with integrated side indicators Audi is offering equipment packages called Attraction This allows the accelerator pedal characteristics automatic transmission tuning and power steering assistance to be customised A suspension package with electronic shock absorber control can also be used to adjust the firmness Also optional: a steering system with adjustable steering angle that takes over in dangerous situations Sounds like the age of driving aids is slowly dawning Lane Change Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control are also on the options list The front axle has been repositioned 15 centimetres further forwards The result: improved driving dynamics and weight distribution better pedestrian protection and a longer wheelbase A newly developed 1.8-litre turbo engine with 160 PS heralds the sound of leisurely downsizing The revised 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine was dropped completely with a facelift in November 2011 The 2.0-litre diesel received common-rail injection The new dual-clutch transmission with seven gears made its debut at the beginning of 2009 significantly extended the life cycle of the A4 compared to previous generations. In 2014 88.1 per cent of all Audi A4s sold in Germany were commercially registered but it wasn't just the A4 that was an absolute commercial favourite at the time 87.6 per cent of all A4s were delivered with a diesel engine in the same year Another fact that now sounds almost impossible It wasn't until 2015 that the last fossil-fuelled generation the B9 presented in June 2015 is now a good 30 centimetres longer and ten centimetres wider than the first A4 generation these were almost the same dimensions as the A6 there is a change in its long history: for the first time the Avant and saloon are being delivered at the same time.  The single-frame radiator grille is now flared further forwards on which the headlights are also orientated The aerodynamics say thank you and allow the wind to glide relaxed towards the rear the rear lights are once again given a slimmer appearance the Ingolstadt-based company wins the Golden Steering Wheel in the mid-size class in the same year The eye-catcher is now the 7- or 8.3-inch infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard The most important vehicle functions can be set via an additional row of switches operation via a joystick and touchpad function is also possible in addition to rotary and push-button controls The basic equipment lines are now called A4 Xenon and daytime running lights are now standard with LED or Matrix LED headlights available as an option The analogue instrument cluster has had its day and is replaced by a 12.3-inch LCD screen Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto are evidence of a new era Emergency Brake Assist can now be found in the series traffic sign recognition and parking assistant are offered as options weight reduction and optimisation measures dominate A new 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder engine speaks of efficiency a natural gas-powered variant of alternative fuels Upgrades and model enhancements await in 2018 and 2019 All petrol models will be equipped with a 12-volt mild hybrid system while the instrument cluster and infotainment system will grow in size once again Individual subscription models can now be ordered for this equipment The A4 B9 has only the name in common with the original A4 B5.  Evolution becomes revolution in 2024. The A4 will soon be purely electric, and the hybrids will become super combustion engines like the A5 - for the time being And my dad is still pressing his nose against the car dealership window even though his family has long been driving their own cars The Toyota Corolla Looks Even Better With White Wheels The New Audi A6 Plug-In Hybrid Has a Decent Electric Range Audi A4 B5 (1994-2001): On the road with the first generation A4 Ukrainian software development company Intellias has announced the opening of a new office in Ingolstadt This office will operate alongside existing locations in Munich and Wolfsburg to strengthen the company’s presence in the region "The office is located in the Ingolstadt campus ensuring closer proximity and greater efficiency in serving automotive industry clients," Intellias stated in a press release The new office is certified at TISAX Level 3 allowing Intellias to manage high-security projects including software development and testing of next-generation vehicle prototypes It is equipped with advanced access control systems and specialized infrastructure for testing vehicle hardware components "The opening of our new office at IN-Campus Ingolstadt is a natural next step in deepening our commitment to the German and broader DACH market Located at the heart of automotive innovation it brings us closer to our clients and partners enabling us to co-create next-generation solutions and shape the future of mobility together," said Intellias CEO Vitaly Sedler The company also noted that the new office will serve as a strategic hub for seamless coordination with its global delivery centers Looking to sell your car? family as 23-year-old German-Iraqi woman was later found to be Algerian blogger A 23-year-old German-Iraqi woman sought out a lookalike on Instagram and murdered her with a friend in order to fake her own death When the blood-covered body of a young woman was found last August in a parked Mercedes in Ingolstadt, southern Germany reports initially identified the victim as Sharaban K a Munich-based 23-year-old beautician with Iraqi roots Even though some members of Sharaban K’s family had identified the body an autopsy report the next day raised questions over its identity The victim was eventually named as Khadidja O an Algerian beauty blogger from Heilbronn in the neighbouring state of Baden-Württemberg leading the German press to refer to the case as the “doppelganger murder” Sharaban K was detained on remand by Bavarian police on 19 August 2022 though authorities did not publicly speculate about a motive until this week The victims and accused have been referred to by their first names and an initial as is customary in the German legal system “Investigations have led us to assume that the accused wanted to go into hiding because of a family dispute and fake her own death to that effect,” Veronika Grieser of the Ingolstadt state prosecutor’s office said on Monday morning Police say several women bearing her resemblance had been contacted by Sharaban K operating on social media sites under numerous aliases “By making various promises she tried to bring about meetings which was initially unsuccessful,” Grieser said lured by what Süddeutsche Zeitung reported to be a cosmetics offer Sheqir K and Sharaban K allegedly picked her up from her apartment on the day of the murder In a stretch of woodland between Heilbronn and Ingolstadt the accused pair are alleged to have made up a pretext for the Algerian woman to step outside the vehicle and stabbed her to death but the evidence is overwhelming,” a police spokesperson “The victim was killed with over 50 thrusts of the knife Prosecutors allege the pair then lifted the victim on the backseat of their Mercedes and drove to Ingolstadt parking the car in a quiet residential area by the banks of the Danube where it was discovered by Sharaban K’s parents shortly before midnight on 16 August 2022 Though investigations were ongoing and further witnesses were still to be interviewed arrest warrants against Sheqir K and Sharaban K were issued on 26 and 27 January the spokesperson for the Ingolstadt prosecutor said especially with such a spectacular twist,” Aichele told Bild “On the day we found the body there was nothing to prepare us for this development.” 2024 – representing another important milestone on the path toward sustainable production at Audi’s main plant Four steps illustrate how Audi important element of this is Audi’s target of net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} production from 2025 at all of its production sites heat and gas in Audi production in Ingolstadt since 2016 Net carbon-neutral production{ft_co2-neutralitaet} is a challenge{ft_background-information-challenge} that two Audi plants have already overcome When production of the Audi e-tron began in 2018 the plant in Brussels became the first high-volume production location in the premium segment worldwide to be certified as net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} (production 2022: 50,302 vehicles) The Audi production site in Győr in Hungary then followed in January 2020 (production 2022: 170,018 vehicles) an external location of the Audi plant in Neckarsulm at the end of 2020 (production 2022: 13,771 vehicles) Ingolstadt will become the third location (production 2022: 332,981 vehicles) when net carbon-neutral production{ft_co2-neutralitaet} commences in January 2024 Group Environmental Protection Management: “Thanks to our team work and pioneering spirit we have come a step closer to our goal of minimizing the impact on the environment caused by the production of our cars.” So what does this mean specifically for production in Ingolstadt One of the key factors in achieving our goal is Mission:Zero Audi’s environmental program for delivering systematically sustainable production and logistics this program has combined activities and measures for reducing the environmental footprint at Audi sites worldwide Four steps were defined for the plant in Ingolstadt as part of Mission:Zero (see graphic) for achieving certification as “net carbon-neutral”{ft_co2-neutralitaet} at the end of the year step 2 to generate renewable energy in-house step 3 to purchase renewable energy and step 4 to offset the currently unavoidable emissions through climate protection projects These measures will be pursued on an ongoing basis An external certification company will carry out audits annually to verify that the Ingolstadt plant continues to operate on a net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} basis Measures as part of the four-step process Audi is implementing to decarbonize its production at the Ingolstadt plant in the context of Mission:Zero in relation to Scope 1{ft_scope-1} and Scope 2{ft_scope-2} emissions Measures as part of the four-step process Audi is implementing to decarbonize its production at the Ingolstadt plant in the context of Mission:Zero in relation to Scope 1* and Scope 2* emissions “The situation at the plant is no different to what happens in our homes: Energy that is saved does not have to be generated or purchased either in a conventional or carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} manner,” says Friedrich-Uwe Tontsch an energy management expert at Audi Environmental Protection Audi published annual energy-saving targets for many areas based on the consumption values from the previous year The first energy-saving measures were quite obvious: Lighting was replaced more efficient machines and conveyor systems were installed – and since then energy has been used more consciously “But the low-hanging fruit has already been picked It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find additional savings potential,” reports Tontsch “What helps us in Ingolstadt is that we have already invested heavily in digitalizing our processes: We started developing our own analysis platform called Energy Analytics in 2019,” explains the energy expert Energy Analytics is a software-based analysis system that performs live compilation preparation and processing of large quantities of data from production processes from various sources in the company This process is known in general as data mining The results are then depicted visually in such a way that users can quickly identify the key points of the analysis This allows the causes of unnecessary energy consumption to be understood and categorized more easily savings potential to be identified and ultimately suitable measures to be derived “The situation at the plant is no different to what happens in our homes: Energy that is saved does not have to be generated or purchased either in a conventional or carbon-neutral* manner,” says Friedrich-Uwe Tontsch But it is not only electricity and heat consumption that is recorded live Data is first collected from various sources in a standard data format for example data on manufactured components energy data from painting booths or welding guns data from consumption due to lighting or ventilation in buildings as well as environmental data such as outside temperatures Statistical models are then developed on the basis of a dataset of 500 million from previous years which allow consumption patterns to be predicted using historical values “We use this as a reference point for optimizing energy consumption If current consumption exceeds its tolerance range this is an indicator first of all of unusual consumption,” points out Tontsch The data therefore helps to detect increased or reduced consumption more easily Tontsch explains: “Because we analyze this for hundreds of energy meters we can break down consumption anomalies on an equipment basis and inform the relevant people specifically these people know their machinery best and can therefore assess how to classify the deviation Reduced consumption could indicate a more efficient equipment configuration and increased consumption could point to equipment that has been running even though this was not necessary.” Even minimal deviations are identified thanks to the tool and improvements can therefore be made accordingly Digitalization for improved sustainability in production: visual representation of energy consumption in the Audi tool “Energy Analytics” The energy management results are impressive: Some 35,449 megawatt hours of energy were saved at the Ingolstadt plant in 2022 That’s equivalent to the average annual consumption of more than 1,400 single-family homes and means that not only were CO₂ emissions avoided but energy costs were also reduced by 2.4 million euros Tontsch: “To give an example: By tracking the base load in one body shop hall we were able to reduce the base load in 2022 by some 2,000 megawatt hours – this translates to cost savings of around 190,000 euros annually We were able to achieve this by engaging with the relevant energy representatives on a weekly basis to discuss the base load – and keeping track therefore of anomalies in a sustained way.” Regular tracking of the base load allowed it to be reduced at the Ingolstadt plant by more than 30 percent compared with July 2018 The base load is the output of electricity and natural gas required on a continuous basis It represents the lowest load below which the level never falls The base load is derived from the power consumption during night hours from Saturday to Sunday since this is usually when the requirement for electricity and natural gas is at its lowest The progress is particularly evident from the air Dark blue solar panels adorn numerous building roofs at the Ingolstadt plant They are the foundation for the second step on the path to net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} production: the use of self-generated renewable energy “The photovoltaic surface at the Ingolstadt plant has grown to around 23,000 square meters in recent years – so more than three football pitches,” explains Christian Danhauser who is responsible for electrical engineering planning within the context of energy and building technology in Ingolstadt The expansion of the photovoltaic systems at the main plant continues to make progress with some 41,000 square meters currently under construction or in planning Audi is focusing on carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} in-house generation of thermal energy And the company is planning to gradually increase this portion also through the use of heat pumps to reuse waste heat from production processes The progress is particularly evident from the air. Dark blue solar panels adorn numerous building roofs at the Ingolstadt plant. They are the foundation for the second step on the path to net carbon-neutral* production: the use of self-generated renewable energy In addition to generating electricity, Audi is focusing on carbon-neutral* in-house generation of thermal energy expert for the planning of electrical engineering in the context of energy and building technology in Ingolstadt The purchase of green energy is the third step This area is the responsibility of Melanie Altinger and her colleagues They look after heat supply and energy management Audi has exclusively purchased green electricity in Ingolstadt to produce its vehicles making the brand with the Four Rings one of the pioneers in the industry at the time “When purchasing electricity for the Ingolstadt plant we can influence many aspects that are important to us as a brand,” says energy expert Altinger That’s because “green electricity is simply a generic term It’s important to us that it fits in with our sustainability goals.” This means that Audi only purchases electricity from renewable sources on the market such as that produced in hydropower plants in Austria and Germany energy management and the procurement of "green energies" at the Ingolstadt site The heat supply at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt is typically 80 percent dependent on gas which means that the purchase of gas as a fuel is also an important topic for Melanie Altinger and her colleagues “To also achieve net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} heat supply the entire natural gas requirement will be converted to methane from biogas plants from January 1 The experts are therefore making sure that this biogas meets the corresponding requirements “This means that it is obtained primarily from waste and therefore does not compete with food production.” The remaining approximately 20 percent of the heat required by the production facilities in Ingolstadt is provided by district heating An adjacent refinery as well as the municipal waste recycling plant supply the main Audi plant with waste heat that is generated in production processes and can be reused in the Audi plant The heat supply at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt is typically 80 percent dependent on gas, which means that the purchase of gas as a fuel is also an important topic for Melanie Altinger and her colleagues. “To also achieve net carbon-neutral* heat supply The site will cover practically all of its energy requirements from renewable sources from 2024 “But there are also emissions that are currently unavoidable And these represent the topic of the fourth step,” explains Matthias Lechner the engineer dealt with the topic of decarbonization in his master’s thesis – today the expert in offsetting unavoidable emissions of greenhouse gases is responsible for managing the process of certifying the Audi Ingolstadt plant as a net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} facility The remaining carbon emissions that are still being offset at present through climate protection projects come from the operation of test rigs on which diesel and petrol engines are tested or from company vehicles powered by combustion engines Emissions from refrigeration and air conditioning systems are also included here Matthias Lechner: “Offsetting emissions through the purchase of carbon compensation certificates is and always will be the last measure Our aim with this fourth step is to offset a maximum of 10 percent of all carbon emissions through external projects.” Offsetting emissions through compensation certificates is just one of Matthias Lechner’s responsibilities He also manages the process of certifying the Ingolstadt plant as a net carbon-neutral{ft_co2-neutralitaet} facility The site’s net carbon neutrality{ft_co2-neutralitaet} is verified by an external expert assessment as part of a comprehensive certification process The independent certification company confirms the effectiveness of the measures in this way The assessment also verifies whether the amount of CO₂ currently emitted corresponds to the amount that is offset We act from a sense of conviction and are committed to an annual audit in Ingolstadt from 2024,” says Lechner This also means repeating the four steps again and again Lechner: “Our goal is to increase energy efficiency year after year to encourage increased production of green energy internally and to successively reduce the amount of external energy we purchase so that we ultimately have to offset fewer emissions through the purchase of certificates The individual steps therefore complement each other mutually.” The assessment also verifies whether the amount of CO₂ currently emitted corresponds to the amount that is offset. “Our certification is not a one-off. We act from a sense of conviction and are committed to an annual audit in Ingolstadt from 2024,” says Lechner. This also means repeating the four steps again and again. Lechner: “Our goal is to increase energy efficiency year after year, to encourage increased production of green energy internally and to successively reduce the amount of external energy we purchase so that we ultimately have to offset fewer emissions through the purchase of certificates. The individual steps therefore complement each other mutually.” In the Augsburg region, Michael Agsteiner is driving sustainability at Audi dealerships – including green roofs, water treatment and ergonomic workplaces. In an interview with Heiko Schmidt, he discusses responsibility. As part of Design for Circularity, Audi promotes the circular economy in the early phases of product development. According to the Rethink principle, components in the concept phase are already designed with their recyclability in mind. Audi brand ambassador Felix Neureuther and Rüdiger Recknagel, Head of Environmental Protection Audi Group, talk about sustainable pioneer vehicles, the appeal of electric cars and the future of sustainable production at Audi museum mobile. Yet the curvaceous Mk1 TT played a significant part in this magazine’s history. No, I’m not talking about the occasionally baffling Project Veyrog but rather the early example that was one of the stars of issue 001 in 1998 It was a key road test of what would prove to be a pivotal car in the regeneration of Audi’s brand image; so key that we deemed it vital to pop an H-plate Audi Quattro 20V on expenses to drive down to its newer relation’s Umbrian press launch > The 2025 Audi RS3 gets a host of improvements – and smells nicer too Their modest age gap now seems implausible in photographs – how on earth did one company produce both cars within the same decade ‘The TT was inspired by Bauhaus,’ says former head of Audi Design Marc Lichte ‘Its universal design philosophy of “less is more” – the omission of everything unnecessary and insignificant – was so radical and so courageous that the TT quickly achieved the highest attribute of good design: to be timeless.’ Dickie Meaden was a little more succinct back in issue one declaring the TT’s curves ‘bold and breathtaking’ As I climb inside the example we’ll be driving today and shut the door with a satisfying this pure and simple genesis of TT – sans the infamous spoiler – really does feel timeless overhauled suspension and a bespoke steering rack and brakes While the design-led ethos of the Audi TT never changed its mechanical make-up traversed all manner of terrain in the decades that followed But there was only one option for the other car to bookend this test: the most powerful TT RS Regular readers won’t need too much of an introduction the RS you see here having retired from the evo Fast Fleet at the end of last year It pairs the 2.5-litre turbo five that’s won countless ‘International Engine of the Year’ awards with the latest fifth-generation Haldex 4WD and a seven-speed S-tronic twin-clutch transmission Nearly twice the power with nary another kilo means almost half the Mk1’s 0-62mph time too and I’d not bet against its claimed 3.7sec being proved a little pessimistic were you to rig up some timing gear and activate launch control The RS rides 10mm lower than a standard TT while its Drive Select system not only alters the tautness of its magnetic damping but the torque split between its axles – though 50:50 is as dynamic as it gets Not only are we marking the 25th anniversary of this magazine with this test but also the end of TT production altogether We wouldn’t want a bunch of deft two-doors clogging up production resources for all those electric crossovers now it’s simply a sign of the times and I can’t imagine Audi took the decision to euthanise its design beacon lightly Flick through other chapters of the evo back catalogue and you’ll find a TT fighting off five competitors in a vast coupe group test A fantastical comparison today if you’re unwilling to stretch the definition of ‘coupe’ with the same flamboyance as most carmakers’ marketing departments Dickie lauded the TT as the first Audi with genuine steering feel in over a decade the world of fast Audis has certainly mutated since ‘There’s no doubting the TT is a fabulous car,’ he concluded though it couldn’t quite escape its mundane underpinnings instead fully maximising the potential of them A subsequent group test in a sopping-wet Wales had Dickie calling out unpredictable on-limit handling albeit ‘nothing a good stability control system wouldn’t cure’ Speculation about the dangers of the TT’s on-limit high-speed handling began in spring 1999 shortly before UK deliveries of the car kicked off A handful of deaths were ultimately attributed to the car’s high-speed handling all occurring north of 110mph in the unique environment of derestricted autobahn A reported £170m update brought heavier steering and stiffer suspension as well as the subsequent addition of stability control Audi AG announced a recall in October ’99 and a month later Audi UK offered the chassis mods and a dinky rear spoiler on its cars usefully filling a blank button that’d otherwise sit incongruously on an exquisitely crafted dashboard The tweaks were understandably rushed in but were apparently already planned for the TT’s mid-life update such is the cadence of big OEM engineering teams The below-the-skin changes were the most crucial and thus some cars – including this example now owned by Audi UK – ducked out of the ducktail in favour of a shape more faithful to the svelte 1995 TT concept A comparison between pre- and post-recall TTs in evo 019 saw John Barker proclaim the modified TT a more planted and predictable road car the occasionally boisterous agility that Dickie found on those earlier drives appears to be absent today From its lovingly crafted aluminium grab handles to its pair of heated seat buttons that pop out satisfyingly and flick through six(!) levels thin rim and wholly circular shape of its steering wheel timestamp the cabin long before you’ve gently pushed open the embossed aluminium cover on its dashboard to reveal a hidden cassette deck The air con utilises proper physical controls but the breeze coming from the vents is akin to that of a small portable pocket fan Yet it feels a fresh and modern place to be despite its paucity of glaring touchscreens The ride really is supple – sometimes too aloof in its reactions over more testing roads – while the steering rack has notable heft and is allied to a gearshift that is tight These are deeply unusual sensations in a fast Audi now Its weight figure (1465kg) is close enough to the newer car’s to ensure its acceleration feels quick The engine exhibits more character than I dared hope a deep bassline accompanied by cute turbo chuffs and whistles right from the off particularly with the windows rolled down – via indulgently bespoke switches – to appease the asthmatic vents It demands to be revved as soon as it’s up to temperature pulling strongly for its considerable mileage while the manual’s precise gate allows you to confidently brush the red line every time This engine wasn’t showered with praise in period but perhaps the ubiquity of 2-litre Volkswagen Group four-cylinders since applies a charming sepia filter to this smaller Or maybe the increasing novelty of rowing a car like this along with my own gearchanges simply sparks it more obviously into life What’s harder to unshackle is the chassis beneath which never places ‘involvement’ high on its agenda Perhaps understandably given the backstory staff writer Yousuf Ashraf takes a turn in the Mk1 ‘It’s quite unnerving when you approach the limit,’ he’ll report later ‘like you’re a step behind the car and removed from the action It’s really soft so you can bully it into moving around a bit nose-led feel and you quickly find the limits of the dampers on a bumpy road I didn’t expect the same tight control as the TT RS but I had hoped the Mk1 would feel more like a sports car.’ The TT RS certainly feels like a different animal I’ve skipped the foreplay of trundling through town and along A-roads and I’m having a ball The steering has shed all the original’s weight yet feels quicker and more precise and despite a poor flow of communication through its flat-bottomed wheel the front axle snaps keenly into turns and I feel immediately more comfortable leaning right against its grip limits than I did in the Mk1 quickly loosening its stability systems to dig even deeper into its talents ‘The RS feels ordinary at town speeds and needlessly stiff but there’s a huge character change when you up the pace,’ Yousuf astutely notes ‘The chassis is keyed in and gives you massive confidence It’s still fundamentally a point-and-shoot car but there’s enough drama and communication to keep you engaged.’ but it demands less aggression from its driver to start loosening its hips than I feared Coax a small slide out of the Mk1 and it feels like frivolous fun but here the car doesn’t seem to lose its momentum and corrective lock feels optional as the RS bounds forwards with a modest yaw angle Just imagine if they’d engineered a more rear-biased torque split… Its suspension is a tightly knurled fist in urban environs It has moments of being caught out and will thump right into rougher surface compressions with little decorum but its level of control embarrasses the older car and breeds confidence in its driver – quickly Swapping the optional 20-inch wheels of this ‘Vorsprung’ spec car for the standard 19s might do wonders for its everyday amenability but then you’d probably undermine its OTT aesthetic which I’ve no doubt drew many TT RS buyers into the showroom Beside its neatly tailored ancestor it appears to be wearing shoulder pads while it’s a relief to discover there’s at least some aerodynamic work being done by the large fixed spoiler and its improbable winglets which are ever present in the side mirrors as you drive which truly credits how much the rest of the car has impressed me Such is the proliferation of four-cylinder motors that you’d be forgiven completely for buying a TT RS purely for its exotic heart The Mk3 TT RS arrived with a whole 26kg skimmed from its predecessor’s engine bay while a 1-2-4-5-3 firing order produces the offbeat vintage rally-stage pastiche you rightly crave from a unit like this Ongoing regulations have dimmed its volume over time but it still sounds unlike anything else in its class especially with S-tronic feeling this sharp This is a sensationally quick car and whatever the stretch of road it’s hard to imagine its more serious R8 sibling feeling any more forceful The quality and detailing still slap a smug grin on your face while its ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital dials – pioneered by the Mk3 TT – look fantastic but aren’t the most intuitive to use with the steering-wheel switches Having a central touchscreen would look worse but function better not least because it would allow the passenger to have some level of input on longer journeys The bells ’n’ whistles nature of the range-topping RS means carbon has overtaken aluminium as the interior trimming of choice I doubt ‘timeless’ is the right descriptor here Buy the older car and you’ll have to covet its design credentials at least as much as its dynamic abilities though prices still sit below £5000 for relatively smart examples The newer car drives with greater focus but boy with the Mk2 – the first generation of TT to get an RS ‘The coupe world will be a poorer place without it,’ remarked managing editor Ian Eveleigh as he bid farewell to this Tango Red TT a few months ago Safety-first handling (eventually) yet tagged with two of the most dangerous letters in motorsport something about the TT has always just worked Porsches or Alpines from the top of group-test podiums in the years following its dramatic origin story Perhaps it hasn’t truly carved itself a place in the evo hall of fame For a quarter of a century its deft design has been printed on the pages of this magazine This story was first featured in evo issue 323 2014-2020) review – the original hyper hatch now cheaper than any new car on sale today GMA T.50 v McLaren F1 – has the best car in the world been dethroned by its successor Best Italian cars – Italy's greats from Alfa to Zonda Carwow Studio Limited is part of the Carwow Group ► RS e-tron GT Performance preview► An early go in a late prototype EV► Punchy at a likely £133k It’s not unusual for CAR to drive a pre-production model way ahead of its launch, but this was particularly premature – we first tested the revised Audi RS e-tron GT December 2023 in Oman, despite the production car not being UK-bound until autumn 2024. And though you can now read our facelifted Audi e-Tron GT review proper the below is Ben Barry’s experience of the prototype Audi might actually act on the questionnaire it handed journalists during our test drive. Any tweaks should be mere tickles, but no wonder much remains TBC. The nub of it? A big dollop of extra power and more handling finesse for Audi’s take on the Porsche Taycan, plus the addition of ‘Performance’ to one of the most generic names in the biz. Naturally this comes at a price, Audi’s form with the Performance appendage suggesting a chunky £133,000, up from today’s RS e-tron GT’s £120,515. As for that power bump, how does circa 800bhp sound? Yes it does. The first time I squeeze throttle deep into carpet on a dusty road, it feels downright brutal – no progression, very little noise, just blam. This is unsurprising given it’s a 200bhp or so increase over the already pretty nippy base model. But then a weird thing happens – I start to get used to it. The novelty and sheer guttural punch never becomes normal exactly, but it’s more manageable than the initial wallop suggests. It’s also refined and flexible around town in a way that’s hard to square with the accelerative violence lurking barely below the surface. A well calibrated accelerator helps. It’s nice and progressive for the initial travel you use most in daily driving, followed by a weightier sort of threshold that asks ‘are you absolutely sure about this?’ before going full rocket-sled. Also useful is an artificial straight-six sort of purr that helps my brain compute what’s occurring (less so the full Star Wars sound effects in racier modes). Given recent Taycan developments, range should increase despite the extra performance, thanks to the battery growing from 93kWh to 105kWh, plus improved thermal efficiency and re-gen. Bank on 340 miles of range. Charging times should also improve, with the max charging rate of 320kW some 50kW more powerful than before. What’s nailed on is the RS e-tron GT Performance up its game dynamically. The steering – still with a nice thin rim wrapped in deliciously tactile Alcantara – has a lovely precision, and while its ratio is faster now, there’s a calm sort of accuracy to its movements as you load it into a turn. I ticked boxes on the questionnaire that basically said ‘make weightier’, ‘increase on-centre feel’ but I liked it. We don’t know how successful the more effective re-gen system is because it didn’t work on our prototype, but the brakes are very strong, even if – just like the steering – I’d dial in a little extra initial bite. What Audi really wants us to feed back on is the active suspension’s Curve Tilting Function, a version of the clever suspension system Porsche got a jump start on. Audi demonstrates its dexterity at a standstill by making it dance like a Mexican low-rider, with each corner controlled independently, though sadly production cars won’t do that while you queue for a charge. It’s not the point. The point is having an ‘access’ mode that lifts the car so you can extract yourself from this enjoyably low-slung driving position, and it’s also about comfort. When you turn into a corner, the system actively counters roll – like a Pendolino train or motorbike rider – to keep the body flat. It also resists squat under acceleration and pitch under braking. Through fast sweepers that run through Oman’s Salalah region lesser-populated areas, it’s subtle but highly effective, especially for passengers, and when you factor in this car’s hushed rolling refinement, it’s pretty dreamy. I found its (surely fiendishly tricky) integration mostly subtle, if less successful through a string of tighter bends, especially those that tightened on themselves. I suspect that’s because Active Curve Tilting teams up with rear-wheel steering, which turns in the opposite direction to the front wheels in slower bends to increase agility (it’s the /same/ direction in those sweepers, for stability). The takeaway is a car that pivots into a turn a little like a rollercoaster, with the usual loadings and latency that help your brain decode the dynamics going AWOL. It makes me feel a little queasy. Audi switches the system off in Dynamic mode, bringing those loadings back into the equation, and that’s very welcome, but really I think the Comfort setting needs a tweak for these situations. Updates don’t convince us the RS e-tron GT deserves the RS badge much more than the original, but this remains an impressive – and improved – car. Massive 800bhp power is the headline, but there’s also ample comfort, well sorted handling, not to mention the enhanced charging and range we expect. Let’s just hope the largely Active Curve Tilting won’t feel so odd on tighter curves when we drive the production car. We filled in a questionnaire, after all.
