Text description provided by the architects. During the 1970s Otl Aicher developed a corporate design for the city of Isny im Allgäu, based on his image about a „city in black and white“ („Stadt in Schwarz und Weiß“). A series of 136 pictograms, portray the town, the landscape, and the region in black and white. Since then the work of Aicher has lost neither its sharpness nor its expressiveness and today still forms an integral part of the town‘s corporate identity.
On the occasion of Aicher‘s 100th birthday anniversary, the town of Insy is also celebrating this event. To host this event in a temporary building located in the public space rather than in the Municipal Gallery inside the Castle was an important decision and a consequence of the project “aichermagazin“. The exhibition can be seen from May to October 22 in Isny im Allgäu.
© Mikael BlomfeltThe temporary building is located in the Kurpark, a green public space just outside the historical city walls, a recreational area that hosts a pleasingly diverse audience throughout the day. A platform is located in the middle of the park that is used for various events throughout the year: this summer it will host the "aichermagazin".
IsometricA ramp stretches towards the path, it introduces, it invites: whoever may follow, wanders around, and circulates. The pergola frames the visual field with black, guiding the gaze. It shows nature and the city, it is a place for strolling, lingering, for stories. Entering the center ultimately changes the focus. Concentrating on space and exhibition, one finds Aicher as a designer and a person, between nettles and a large opening that frames the sky.

Vaude's Isny II daypack is an eco-friendly option with a spacious main compartment and a roll-top closure to keep everything perfectly dry inside
It's a bit light on features though – it only comes with two pockets and an unpadded sleeve for a laptop - and there are no zipped compartments
this waterproof 20L backpack has a height-adjustable roll lid that can add another 8L to its large main compartment
> Find your nearest dealer here
Its felt-padded shoulder straps are absolutely delightful
Vaude says the fibres are made from cow's milk that can no longer be sold for drinking – it's processed with wool to produce a felt composite
which is particularly good with sleeveless tops
Comfort would be higher still with a padded back and a chest strap for reducing pressure on the shoulders
and uses Vaude's water-repellent Eco Finish
It beads water without using environmentally harmful fluorocarbons
and effectively held off heavy downpours during testing – it's great to see an eco alternative without any performance compromise
bar two handy holes for hooking rear lights on and a reflective logo
but it's lacking some practical essentials: there are no easy-access zipped pockets for essentials such as phones
which means it's easy to load up bulkier essentials
another slightly wider pocket and a sleeve that fits a 15inch laptop
This sleeve only rises two thirds of the way up and isn't padded
> 18 of the best cycling rucksacks — carry your stuff the easy way
the sleeve doesn't protect it from your other stuff
and the pocket's too slim to take a computer in its own sleeve
it's no surprise the bag weighs in at a rather light 580g
It does allow you to pack it full without it becoming too heavy
but at the same time the lack of chest strap and back padding reduces comfort over longer periods
it's effective at carrying the essentials and keeping them dry
the Isny II is expensive for a bag with so few pockets and features
and it is reassuring knowing it's backed by Vaude's five-year guarantee against defects
That said, the 100% Transit Backpack is cheaper at £69.99 and has 10 pockets for a proper organised commuter system
The Merida Fifteen II backpack is even cheaper at £49.99
and impresses with its stability on the bike

dn&co are hosting an exhibition showcasing the work of German designer and typographer Otl Aicher
Aicher created a series of posters based on the small German town of Isny im Allgäu
The images presented the area in a new way
visualising the town in 128 pictograms that were “stark
alongside the release of a publication titled Otl Aicher’s Isny: How a German town defied the postcard mentality
is to be held at Ground Floor Space gallery in Bermondsey
Aicher worked with brands such as Lufthansa
and was well-known for the Munich Olympics identity in 1972 — a project that garnered him the reputation as “father of the geometric man”
his work is was reputable for its simple approach
which dn&co describes as “an economy of line drawn with an often mischievous twist”
The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate the work of the iconic 20th Century designer
featuring the “most comprehensive collection… ever to be seen in the UK”
“Otl Aicher has long been a source of inspiration
so our trip through southern Germany to uncover his work for Isny was the epitome of a busmans’ holiday,” says Patrick Eley
the hospitality of Aicher’s son Florian at Rotis
and the sweet beauty of the town of Isny itself were stops along the way to a greater understanding of the man and his vision
which we bring to life in the book and the exhibition.”
The Otl Aicher exhibition opens to the public on 15 September as part of the London Design Festival. A limited edition book will accompany the exhibition and will be available to pre-order at dnco.com

There is no doubt that nicknames such as “glass underpants” and “molar” have assisted in the demise of the project. Critics claim the citizens were not bold enough. Reports quote urban development specialist Sonja Rube stating, “citizens were not able to realize what they were about to get.” Beyond the design, the people of Isny where also dissatisfied with the estimated 21 million Euro price tag, even though the mayor assured them the money would be provided by sponsorship funds.
the citizens have spoken and their veto forbids the city administration to partake in any further involvement with the project

the Erwin Hymer Group and ZF have set a new world record
they pulled a caravan over 386 kilometres without recharging – and crossed the Alps in the process
Dethleffs had already presented the prototype of a caravan with its own electric drive in 2018
which was developed together with the Erwin Hymer Group and ZF Friedrichshafen
the project partners have demonstrated the practical readiness of the concept in a challenging caravan tour across the Alps
the Audi e-tron Sportback pulled the electrically powered caravan E-Home Coco all the way to Lake Garda – without a charging stop
the additional weight of the trailer and especially the increased air resistance drive up the consumption of the towing vehicle (regardless of the drive technology)
the project partners wanted to prove that a trailer with electric drive can compensate for this higher energy consumption – and that the towing vehicle can also reach its usual range in trailer mode
The route led from the Dethleffs factory site in Isny im Allgäu over the Fernpass road and then on the A12 and A13 motorways past Innsbruck over the Brenner Pass
it was on the A22 via Bolzano and Trento to Riva on the northern shores of Lake Garda – a total of 386 kilometres and 4,870 metres in altitude
For this journey at an average speed of 62.4 km/h
the e-tron Sportback consumed 62 kWh of energy (i.e
These consumption values of the towing vehicle were made possible by the trailer’s own drive
A towing force sensor is installed in the towing device itself
This is supposed to detect whether the towing vehicle is accelerating
This information was used to control the two electric motors of the caravan prototype
they regulate their drive torque and ensure that the e-tron Sportback never had to move more than 20 kilograms of towed load during the record drive – the Caravan does the rest itself with 2x 90 kW
The E-Home Coco also has a recuperation system
which means it can recover energy during deceleration
the prototype has disc brakes as mechanical brakes instead of the drum brakes that are often used
The reason lies in the electric drive: disc brakes enable a more sensitive transition between electric and mechanical deceleration
“Even though there are still hurdles to be cleared before it is ready for series production and registration – the E.Home Caravan developed by Dethleffs
the Erwin Hymer Group and ZF is already a practical and future-proof solution for environmentally conscious and economically sensible caravanning for everyone,” said Dethleffs Managing Director Alexander Leopold
Dethleffs once again lives up to its claim as a caravan pioneer.”
some changes are likely to be made to the series in “three or four years”
only one electric motor with differential could be installed per wheel instead of the previous asynchronous motor
the solution with two motors offers some advantages: With the wheel-selective control
the caravan itself can contribute to the stabilisation of the vehicle and prevent lurching
the prototype can be manoeuvred on the campsite or car park with its own drive – if both motors run in opposite directions

electrive has been following the development of electric mobility with journalistic passion and expertise since 2013
we offer comprehensive coverage of the highest quality — as a central platform for the rapid development of this technology
have always offered a lot of space for innovation
And this is in no small part thanks to enthusiastic cyclists in small specialised companies who know how to impress with their innovations
Vecnum develops and manufactures components for mountain and gravel bikes in Isny
Probes and tool setting probes from Blum-Novotest play an important role in the production processes of the company based in the Allgäu region in Germany
process reliability and automated machining
High manufacturing quality is not just an end in itself for Vecnum
producer of innovative components for mountain and gravel bikes: For instance
play in the joints of the suspension stem would have a strong negative impact on the riding experience
high forces act on the joints if the rider pulls on the handlebars while pedalling
“The seat posts also generate strong diagonal forces when the rider sits on them
These are a product of the high dynamics created through pedalling and the ground,” adds company founder Marcell Maier
even the slightest amount of play is unwanted here
We handle this with selected materials and the precise manufacturing process
The upper telescopic tube with the connection for the saddle is extruded in one piece from high-strength aluminium.”
Although the Vecnum product parts are relatively small
the machining performance is considerable: The aluminium components of the freeQENCE-stem are made from blanks with an initial weight of two kilograms
The freeQENCE-components are currently milled from solid
the Allgäu-based company will surely switch to forging blanks
which already have a rough shape and require less machining
Machining takes place in a cover to an accuracy of one hundredth of a millimetre
meaning in Isny they have to stay within half a hundredth per machining side
the inaccuracy is in the range of a hundredth due to the warming of the machine during machining alone
This means that the specialists at Vecnum have to constantly measure and compensate
The two FANUC Robodrill machines used in production are each equipped with a type TC52 LF touch probe and a Z-Nano tool probe from BLUM
“LF stands for ‘low force.’ The probe operates with only 0.65 N measuring force when probing in X/Y instead of 2.3 N
The reduced measuring force is an advantage
especially when it comes to styli with very small ruby balls or delicate workpieces,” explains Erhard Strobel
“The multidirectional BLUM measuring mechanism guarantees high precision with a repeatability of 0.3 µm 2 σ for the TC52 LF
the systems used by Vecnum also feature a miniature light barrier in the interior
The switching signal generation of measuring values is generated optoelectronically here
so it is wear-free.” Vecnum receives the seat posts as flow-forged blanks
with the oval inner contour and a groove already machined with a broach
The inner contour is measured with the TC52 LF probe so that the outer contour can then be created in a precise position
For other components such as the links of the freeQENCE stem
the Allgäu company uses clamping towers where the clamping devices are installed
The clamping towers are attached to a horizontal rotary axis to allow the three machining sides of the tower to swivel upwards for machining
The clamping towers are exchanged to switch between the first and second clamping
identifying which clamping is on the machine
The Z-Nano probes are used to measure the workpiece lengths and
to compensate for the change in length due to machine warming
If sensitive tools such as a 0.8 millimetre drill bit are used
a breakage detection is also done after machining
as the measuring mechanism of the tool setting probe operates with very low measuring forces due to the linear working principle and lateral forces acting on the tool are ruled out
“Tool setting of cutter heads with the Z-Nano probe creates a real ‘aha’ moment,” explains developer and NC specialist Matthias Wimmer
“We measure all the cutting edges and it turns out – no matter how precise the tool is on paper – specific cutting edges are often longer than others
meaning the dimensions of the machined surface are different than expected
Measurement is a very important factor here in the process for high-precision production.”
This is all the more true because Vecnum does not have a temperature-controlled workshop and does not work all around the clock
The external temperatures and the machine warming caused by the high machining volume changes the machine geometry
In order to ensure the necessary tolerances on the components
Vecnum also uses measurement technology despite temperature compensation
This is why the machine is recalibrated before each machining process
This must be done very quickly – and there is no substitute for measurement in the process
Especially when the measuring points can be approached at a feed rate of two metres per minute – which is the case with BLUM probes
The Allgäu company recently received an update from BLUM for the measuring cycle on the Z-Nano
The new cycle saves a few seconds per measurement by executing the pre-positioning process
meaning the first approach of the tool setter
the tools are changed during set-up for a new machining process and all 21 tools in the turret head are measured once
which is why the appearance plays an important role
That means the surface quality is very important
“This does not necessarily mean it has to be completely smooth; often a certain ‘milled look’ is the goal
the process has to work and the human factor has to be ruled out to achieve consistently positive results,” emphasises Marcell Maier
“You often hear that probes are superfluous on small machining centres – I think that’s completely untrue
In order to be able produce the highest quality on a consistent basis
Marcell Maier has a great deal of knowledge and experience in the field of machine tools
He is also still active in this industry with his engineering firm
He practically grew up with probes and has gotten to know the products of different manufacturers: “I really like BLUM probes
The measuring accuracy in particular is very high
That’s why we are very happy with Blum-Novotest as a partner
from the products to the consultation.” Marcell Maier also appreciates the technical principle of BLUM probes: “For instance
I am quite impressed by the shark360 measuring mechanism with its integrated face gear – it is simply a well-designed technical solution that impresses me as an engineer
The measurements are also very quick and the entire measuring system is absolutely reliable – this is just perfect for our requirements.”

THE Gain Equine Nutrition Ireland Junior eventing team put in a huge effort to win the silver medal at the FEI European Championships in Stzregom
A superb performance from the team secured the Irish runner-up finish
with Tom Nestor also winning individual silver on board Cooley Diamond Dancer (ISH) after a fantastic weekend of eventing action
Tom Nestor with Cooley Diamond Dancer (ISH) and team manager Sue Shortt produced a brilliant performance from start to finish to take a silver medal on a total of 94.9
while Great Britain landed bronze on 100.4
Ireland lay in second position after dressage
just 0.8 penalties behind leaders France before they moved into gold following the cross-county phase
Nestor also led individually on his dressage score of 25.5 as less than four penalties separated the top six individuals
with Alex Connors (dressage score 28.3) sitting in fifth ahead of the final show jumping phase
Nestor and Cooley Diamond Dancer were the final combination into the arena
knowing a clear round would secure team and individual gold
a desperately unlucky pole down at the final fence meant that Nestor as an individual and Ireland as a team finished in second
capping off an excellent competition and continuing Ireland’s magnificent run of podium form at European Championships
Ireland’s U18 and U21 eventing teams took home silver and bronze team medals at the Championships when they were held in Hartpury
Ireland also had two other top-10 finishes as Connors was seventh overall with OLS King Aragon and Love was ninth with DSL Allegra
Cowan and RCA Royal Mist were 19th overall
with Gearoid Bolger finishing in 31st place individually on board Into Mischief
the Young Rider eventing team finished just off the podium in fourth place
Isny O’Donnell with Vital DK Z and Godfrey Gibbons with Milchem Miami (ISH) finished on 151.9 penalties
Great Britain topped the young rider team podium on 93.3 penalties followed by France on 94.9 penalties and Germany took the bronze medal on 98.2 penalties
Tom Nester and Cooley Diamond Dancer (ISH) in action during the Cross Country phase at the 2024 FEI European Eventing Championships for Juniors and Young Riders \ Leszek Wójcik/ Strzegom Horse Trials
“I’m incredibly proud of the whole squad who competed at the Europeans in Stzregom last weekend,” Sue Shortt said
“For our Juniors to be lying a close second after dressage
almost seven penalties in front of Germany
is a testament to our coaches’ (Gerald Blooomer and Heike Holstein) expertise
“The riders showed their class over a big technical cross-country course
and all jumped well on Sunday with an unlucky pole costing us double gold
“They were certainly the biggest and most technical show jumping and cross-country tracks I’ve seen
“To come home with a team and individual silver medal and team fourth with an inexperienced Young Rider team is an incredible achievement and it shows just how bright the future is for these athletes
“It was unfortunate that Alex just hit the back rail of the triple bar
Matthew jumped a smashing clear round and Oleana’s mare started off very well
but got a little bit strong through the middle of the track
Tom rode a super round and just had that rub at the last - they really deserved to take home the double gold but double silver is not bad either!”
Shortt made special mention of the effort of team vet J.P
King and HSI administrator Aileen Cartwright for their huge support in the lead up to and during the event
“Also a huge thank you to Dag Albert for traveling over to help with the various course walks and for sharing his advice and expertise,” Shortt concluded

Playful use of imagery and strong colours keep things interesting
The multi-device world makes editorial design on the web a challenge
Generous use of whitespace and elegant proportions make the site an easy read on all devices
All the articles are easy to read and navigate on a smartphone screen
Leading creatives share their editorial projects and the lessons they learned from them
each project comes with unique challenges – and it can be useful to see how other designers have tackled these in their own work
So here we bring you six stunning examples of editorial design from leading creatives
and share some lessons that can be applied to all your editorial projects
the team felt a real sense of responsibility,” says creative director Patrick Eley
“We kept asking ourselves ‘What would Otl do?’ – shorthand for how we could bring rationale and order to the project
"It was a matter of ensuring the design was consistent with Aicher’s recognisable aesthetic
a typeface that was used as part of Isny’s branding
the project Aicher is best known for.
“It’s a simple but effective structure – the editorial frames the work
which is printed on an uncoated paper to reflect the material that the Isny posters were originally printed on,” says Eley
“The surrounding narrative is reproduced on a coated stock so the photos of the town pop out.”
The pictograms only exist as physical prints
so they had to photograph everything in high resolution to enable us to reproduce it as accurately as possible
And that led to some interesting dilemmas.
“We wanted to reflect Aicher’s strongly gridded approach to his work for Isny,” says Eley
nothing is actually square as it originally appears and that caused a few headaches with our own grid.”
Eley’s main tip for anyone embarking on a similar project
“Good filing is vital,” he says
who took what photo and whether you’ve got something at a high enough resolution to print it is absolutely key.”
you have to become really familiar with the book’s content
and remember that design and typography is a fundamental part of delivering any story
we were very conscious that we didn’t want to ‘out art the art’
The design of this book needed to be recessive to the content
while acting to frame another designer’s work and give it context
Ultimately it was a question of respect.”
This Is Me, Full Stop: The Art, Pleasures, and Playfulness of Punctuation is a book created by London design agency Here Design that harnesses beautiful design to explore “the secret life of punctuation marks”
tongue-in-cheek way to explore a niche topic
and makes great use of simplicity and whitespace to tie everything together; a trick that might look easy but is much harder to achieve in practice
“When it came to layout,” says Here Design’s Caz Hildebrand
“our biggest decision was to make the text the formal consistent element throughout and allow the illustration and design to spread out and play as much as it wanted to
so that it could support and enhance the text’s meaning
It is always a joy to work with whitespace
though of course it is a challenge to have so much freedom.”
Championing typefaces both known and unsung was always part of the ambition.”
“To find the simplest way of expressing our book’s main idea
we used white foil lettering on black substrate
creating a striking contrast between matte and gloss that helps the book stand out,” he says
we had the book trimmed flush (we love seeing it in bookshops; it stacks up really nicely)
And inside we used black end papers and chapter dividers to bring the reader back to the centrality of the cover.”
Hildebrand offers the following advice for a designer coming fresh to editorial design: “Think about the experience of the reader."
He continues: “Not all consciously designed things are necessarily friendly to read
but also be the reader – what would you expect to see
What would surprise you in a delightful way
Typography can really endorse the words you are saying
And always remember that books evolve over many pages
so they need to retain an inherent formal structure while being able to break free.”
Circular 19, the 12th edition of The Typographic Circle’s magazine, was designed by Pentagram and marks the 40th anniversary of the volunteer-run and not-for-profit organisation
which aims to bring designers with an interest in type and typography together
is an unusual publication as it does not carry any advertising and therefore is far more independent and we can do as we wish,” says designer Domenic Lippa
“It’s also important it appeals to its core audience of type enthusiasts.”
The design of the publication is most noticeable for its use of big type
“We use this to create impact and to challenge preconceptions around what type is used for,” says Lippa
it's as important as imagery and is not used purely for information.”
“We often decide upon an approach before we start designing and this includes the typefaces
the general look and feel and the colour palette
The colours help create a thread for the whole magazine.”
“We want to keep challenging ourselves and stretch ourselves and not get bored
so each spread has a sense of individuality about it – we're not design fascists!”
relationships of scale between various pieces of text is the most important element of editorial design; you should not be afraid to use type confidently,” he says.
“I do believe that as designers we need to keep questioning the status quo; why are we doing it this way
Never stop learning and never stop trying things
otherwise you just dry up as a designer and as a thinker.”
Charm, Belligerence & Perversity: The Incomplete Works of GBH is a monograph written by Jason Gregory, Mark Bonner and Peter Hale, founders of GBH London
And the first thing you notice about it is its striking cover
“We wanted to make something that supported the idea that we’d only just begun and that we weren’t finished yet,” explains Mark Bonner
“We’re fascinated by our evolution and we loved the twist on the old idea that 100 monkeys in a room
“We needed to explain what went into the design of each project
and we wanted to have a wider dialogue with our readers about the insecurities and bravery that entwine in us all while we are making them
“We felt no-one had ever spoken about these uncomfortable truths
So many books on design are self-aggrandising
but we wanted to be honest and share the fact that we go through a lot of emotions in making new things.”
Bonner believes it’s important to “read the text
know it intimately before you even think about trying to lay it all out.”
“So we worked hard to find a typographic system that allowed the 'show and tell’ of the project stories and the psuedo-sycology to co-exist.”
To celebrate 10 years of creative collaborations, Bristol design studio Mr B & Friends produced Comfriendium
a statement piece to send to their clients
It’s an impressive publication with punchy colours and a high quality finish
including a gloss black and white foiling on the cover that adds subtlety and impact
“Editorial permeates everything we do,” says executive creative director Steve Richardson. “From digital magazines and websites to annual reports and books
"Gone are the days when an idea could be rolled out to a template; now the reader can click-off
so our goal is to guide the eye with storytelling merging words
He offers the following tips for anyone working in editorial design: “Invest in the best copywriting you can afford
the design falls out onto the printed or digital page
Work closely with the author to get into their head so you understand the nuances
Choose typefaces that work well online and in print
Good pairings that give light and shade to all communications
so you can tailor the editorial message to the medium.”
“Each page and screen view should take the eye on a journey
Choose illustration and imagery to help reflect this.”
There’s an awful lot of information to be uncovered here
responsive layout of the site is designed with generous use of whitespace and elegant proportions that avoid ever feeling cluttered
on the web an article is usually designed as a whole
and often the designer will not have control over how it's presented,” says Johnson
So it's important to make the articles flexible and resilient to changing conditions
“Keep layouts simple and embrace responsive design techniques,” he continues
“Try to get the main ideas across in each format and don't sweat the small differences between them
This is in contrast to the two-page spread of the magazine
where a designer decides exactly how the content will appear and when
is even more important on the web than in print
Reading is hard on a screen so it's best not to distract the readers with a cluttered page.”
The biggest mistakes Johnson sees online often stem from poor typography
“Line widths that are too wide is probably the biggest issue there,” he says
“I also see a lot of sites that try to use a print typeface for body copy.”
Getting it right is partly about effective collaboration
“The designer's role is to provide a tangible form for the underlying concepts provided by the editor
This can't happen without a good relationship between the designer and editor
"So I can't stress this enough; work with your editors and really get to know their content and editorial philosophy before attempting to design anything
This will go a long way in ensuring that people want to read the article.”
you have to catch the reader’s attention right away and get them interested in the article
Readers should be able to glance at the page and instantly know what the article is about
Write a great title and design it to really stand out
Adding a great photo or illustration that works with the title
great content backed by solid design will keep it
Pick a good web typeface and set the body copy large enough to be read easily
Break the article into sections and write headlines for each and use strategically placed images
pull quotes and other design elements to encourage readers to scroll.”

What riflescope for what situation when hunting
Is there an affordable model that can do practically everything
Minox now offers such an all-rounder that impresses with its remarkable features
We have put the new MINOX 3-15x56 through its paces and tested it for you here on all4hunters.com See also our video
But one thing has not changed: the company develops and sells high quality optics that also score points with a good price
Just like the new Minox 3-15x56 riflescope
Let's start from the outside with the controls: the elevation and windage adjustment turrets are easy to reach (1 click corresponds to a shift 1 cm at 100 m) and can be precisely operated with clearly audible clicks
On the left side is the parallax compensation and the settings for the illuminated reticle (in the 2nd image plane)
Especially the first feature can't be taken for granted in such a price range
Other plus points are the better viewing characteristics due to the larger exit pupil and the greater eye relief that this scope allows for
This results in a comfortable vision through the optics – and you avoid the danger of the riflescope giving you a "souvenir" when shooting
But one point stood out in particular: the good light transmission
which was confirmed by a test report drawn up according to DIN standards
This means that Minox is catching up with the considerably more expensive products of its competitors in the top segment
MSRP for the new model from MINOX is around 1.500 € - depending on markets and applicable VAT
In terms of technical specs it's a good and
So we went to the hunting ground to see how the scope performs in reality
The hunting rifle was a Brenner BR20 in caliber .308 Winchester
First we went to a game land in the forest
The parallax was set at the appropriate distance and then magnification was diligently adjusted
The infinitely variable magnification was correct
no blurred edges or other conspicuous flaws
Both the parallax compensation and the magnification are easy to adjust due to the scope's design
where ranges were over 100 m.With a rangefinder different points (trees
high seats etc.) were targeted and then zoomed in with the riflescope
The distances were up to 350 m and the image remained sharp and could be turned comfortably on the wheels
The illuminated dot was also used in different stages
the Minox all-rounder made a powerful impression in all these situations
At 26.8 oz/760 g it is not a lightweight – but you won't find any plastic in it
scratchproof riflescope that can take a beating instead
The automatic switch-off with a position sensor
as well as the auto power-off after 3 hours save the battery
As soon as a ready-to-shoot position is reached again
the illuminated reticle switches on automatically
Presented as an all-rounder and actually well-suited for any hunting situation – this is our conclusion in the final report of the Minox 3-15x56 test
If you are looking for a good riflescope for a wide range of applications and can do without the high-tech features of the premium class
and don't want to "tear a hole in your wallet"
With the Minox you'll get a scope with really good features
This model deliberately dispenses with too much technical gimmickry
high-quality “Made in Germany” riflescope with a remarkable transmission
and as a bonus the flip covers (Tenebraex originals)
with the all-rounder from Minox you'll have a suitable option for everything
should think about the name Minox and this all-rounder
The “56” is the only one of the three new models that features parallax compensation
The new 2020 Minox range for hunters currently includes two further models for driven hunts and twilight hunting:
All models are equipped with an illuminated reticle and are optionally delivered with an inner rail
The surcharge for the tested model is 200 euro
Further information on the hunting all-rounder 3-15x56 can be found on the Minox website

The latest addition to the S 404 lineup features an integrated moderator made out of lightweight titanium and a carbon thumbhole stock with adjustable comb
All this to guarantee reduced gunshot noise
recoil dampening with better control and comfort
The rifle also has a fully adjustable trigger and Sauer's manual cocking system
Sauer expands the S 404 rifle line with a low weight
reduced recoil option – the S 404 Silence XTC
The newcomer features an integrated moderator made out of lightweight titanium and a carbon thumbhole stock made out of hand-laid carbon fibers to offer the best damping performance
quiet and handy hunting rifle weighing just 120 oz/3.4 kg with a 16.5”/420 mm barrel – a 20.5”/520 mm barrel variant is also available
The idea behind the use of sound moderators – commonly also called “silencers” – when hunting (where allowed by the law
of course) is to reduce the sound of a gunshot to hearing safe levels for both hunters and dogs
the moderator also dampens recoil somewhat
the integrated moderator of the S 404 Silence XTC appears like a match/bull barrel of some sort
harmoniously blending with the rifle's lines
the barrel-moderator combination evenly distributes the moderator's weight over the entire length
with a better balance and less top-heaviness as when using an over or on-barrel moderator
Both barrel and receiver are made on site in Isny/Germany
The carbon-fiber thumbhole stock – the same used on the Synchro XT and XTC models in the S 404 series – has an adjustable comb
the Sauer Quattro adjustable trigger features four different trigger pull weights that are individually adjustable
For a proper trigger pull and controlled shooting
with an 8 mm (0.3”) adjustment range for length of pull and left-to-right swivel range of 3 degrees
The extra wide trigger blade guarantees optimal contact
The refined action is characterized by a manual cocking system that provides comfortable and silent cocking
shooting comfort and individual adjustment options” – this is how Sauer describes the S 404 Silence XTC – is offered in standard and Magnum calibers
The Sauer 404 Silence XTC has an MSRP of 7,581 euro – adequate to its quality and high technology contents
every Sauer 404 owner can also convert their rifle to the Silence version
all that is needed is the conversion set consisting of interchangeable barrel
the conversion set with complete stock pair

Blaserʼs new over-and-under F3 “SuperSport” model represents the state of the art in skeet and trap shotguns
Riding the wave of the great success and attention gathered at the 2012 editions of the Las Vegas SHOT Show and Nuremberg's IWA
the new F3 “SuperSport” 12-gauge over-and-under sporting shotgun has finally been launched on the international markets by its manufacturer
the Blaser Jagdwaffen company of Isny im Allgäu (Germany)
Ideally suited for Trap and “Parcours de Chasse” shooting competitions
Blaserʼs new F3 “SuperSport” shotgun has already received the praise of many olympic shooters for its incredibly degree of adaptability to the user's individual need
Basically every part of the F3 “SuperSport” over-and-under shotgun
is adjustable indefinitely according to the shooter's preferences and demands
A command also allows the shooter to decide which of the two barrels will be shot first; both barrels have a 3” 12-gauge chambering and are free-floating
so that heating wonʼt impair their accuracy
Weight balancers located on the barrels and the stock will also allow the shooter to re-distribute the weight at his/her own will
and to increase the overall weight of the F3 “SuperSport” shotgun up to further 350 grams
such as the IBS inertia blocking system and the EBS enhanced ejection system
adjustable trigger with a maximum weight of 1.4 kilograms; last
the KICK-EEZ Sorbothane buttpad grants extreme shock absorption capabilities for better recoil management
making the Blaser F3 “SuperSport” over-and-under shotgun a perfect
competition machine for the most unforgiving shooters

we developed a population pharmacokinetic model of cefazolin in South African children undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB)
The model captured the effect of the CPB pump on cefazolin pharmacokinetics and identified weight and renal function as predictors of cefazolin pharmacokinetics.
we developed a personalized continuous infusion dosing regimen which can be adjusted according to weight and renal function
Our simulations illustrate that this regimen outperforms intermittent mg/kg bolus dosing
ensuring consistent cefazolin exposures and achieving target concentrations while mitigating the risk of toxicity across diverse weight and renal function categories
integrating an additional dose into the CPB pump with this regimen incurs no toxicity risk and could counteract potential drug loss through the CPB pump.
The publication titled “Dose optimization of cefazolin in South African children undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass” and published in CPT: Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology can be found here
we address the lack of guidance on rifabutin dosing in children during lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) co-treatment
We developed a joint population pharmacokinetic model for rifabutin and its active metabolite
This model further characterizes how LPV/r co-treatment affects the pharmacokinetics of rifabutin and des-rifabutin
this is the first published population pharmacokinetic model of rifabutin in children.
Our simulations show that a weight band-based dosing strategy for rifabutin can achieve consistent exposures of rifabutin and des-rifabutin comparable to those in adults
whether during treatment for TB alone or in combination with HIV treatment using LPV/r.
The publication titled “Population pharmacokinetics of rifabutin among HIV/TB co-infected children on lopinavir/ritonavir-based antiretroviral therapy” and published in the Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy journal can be found here.
