following the opening weekend of *Thunderbolts*
Marvel revealed a long-planned rebrand of the movie
in which the cast — including Julia Louis-Dreyfus
David Harbour and Geraldine Viswanathan — rip off part of a movie poster
revealing that the secret title of the movie is really The New Avengers
the ad-hoc superhero team is hastily named "The New Avengers" by scheming government official Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)
This mostly scans as a cynical move on her part
but as the credits and post-credits scene confirm
we find that the New Avengers really are the New Avengers
though there's some off-screen rivalry from Captain America (Anthony Mackie)
who is forming another version of The Avengers
While it remains to be seen how dueling Avengers teams will play out in future MCU movies, for now, Marvel seems committed to the new title for this team. For the foreseeable future, these are the New Avengers. As reported by Variety
Fandango has even changed the title of the movie for ticket sales
The entire cast of the movie has also posted various social media photos of the reveal
But you might have to look it up under a different title

Thunderbolts* — the asterisk is part of its title for reasons I'll leave you to discover — is a decently effective blend of misfit mercenaries and pop psychology
After a series of Marvel Cinematic Universe misfires
It begins with Yelena, who we met a few years back as Black Widow's spiritual sibling
looking glum and musing that there's something wrong with her ..
plummeting clearly to her death since she doesn't fly
and skydives down to her latest assignment — something to do with destroying a lab in Malaysia
played with downbeat charisma by Florence Pugh
And neither are the mostly unsuperhero types she'll soon be tangling with in a life-or-death battle
Even diehard Marvel fans may not recognize them right away — Ghost (Hannah John Kamen)
who can dematerialize to get herself out of jams; Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko)
who's a very good mimic; John Walker (Wyatt Russell)
a "dime store Captain America;" and a dazed and confused lab patient (Lewis Pullman) named Bob
(Gotta say I found him instantly relatable; not sure why.)
All of these folks were damaged by childhood trauma — a fact that will be central to what follows — but that doesn't mean they can't put two and two together
They deduce that they were all sent to what amounts to a deathtrap
with a lot of colorful detours — for the office of the impeached-but-unrepentant CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
who's played with delighted condescension by Julia Louis-Dreyfus
and instead you make nice and you form a team."
turns out to have a lot to do with her nefarious schemes
Along for the ride is Yelena's dad (David Harbour
who is both a limo driver and the self-styled Red Guardian
Another old pal shows up who is Captain America-adjacent: Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)
Winter Soldier-turned-freshman-Congressman
Cool, but also damaged in a film that takes bruised psyches as seriously as it does slow-motion bullet trajectories. That may seem odd for a superhero epic, but director Jake Schreier, best known for the Netflix road-rage series Beef, makes sense of it
He and his team have built Thunderbolts* around pyrotechnics that are digital but also emotional
For all the time they spend dodging slabs of exploding buildings and saving hapless New Yorkers
the characters remain stubbornly convinced that they're not heroic
You could also say that about Marvel lately
And while it's never wise to read too much into character-based navel-gazing
this bit of self-awareness in Thunderbolts* is undeniably welcome

A masked five-member visual kei band YATANO KAMEN (八咫ノ仮面), the likes of which no one has ever seen or heard of before, has suddenly appeared
Their mysterious debut reveals nothing about them identity-wise
apart from wearing crow-inspired masks and traditional Japanese attire
what is revealed comes in the form of their light-soaked
laser-filled music video for the song KIBOU (祈奉)
when combined with the vocalist’s high-pitched vocals
The music video for KIBOU is described in its video description as:
and the light we search for in the shadows
An excerpt taken from the lyrics exemplifies the story:
They are already making their presence being felt by celebrating the grand opening of the littleHEARTS. Hibiya Okuroji popup shop on April 4
There are still many questions as YATANO KAMEN has announced no tour dates

I didn’t think people made music like this anymore, though I’m so glad it hasn’t disappeared from the music sphere altogether. That said, tying down precisely what is happening here isn’t easy. It is not that Tyler Kamen makes music that doesn’t fit on the musical map; it is more that he evokes so many sounds and styles that his music seems to be ever-shifting through the sonic landscape.
Third Eye Temple is music based around the sound of his fantastic guitar work, one that blends rock, blues, and folk but is also embued with an unexpected soulfulness – unexpected if you think that this is just another rocker wielding a guitar. And that eclectic approach is what keeps everything moving forward.
“How To Open a Portal,” which kicks things off, is seductive and understated, like much of his work found here, but it is also ornate, the solo, in particular, pushing into neo-prog territories, just slightly. “Charming King Snake” is spacious and blues-infused, hazy and harmonious, “Those Roads of Old” evokes something of the past in its lingering notes and emotive sonic reach, and “Fata Morgana” is the perfect showcase for Kamen’s fantastic psychedelic-soaked guitar work.
There is something Santana-esque about the sounds here, although not beholden to the Latin grooves that defined that sound and leaning more into the sound of European 70’s bands and, at its most florid and fanciful, reminding me of bands such as Yes or Genesis, and perhaps even occasionally the bands they influenced like Marillion and Pendragon, although perhaps less so than on Kamen’s previous outings.
It is a gorgeous collection of songs and a reminder that rock music doesn’t have to be big and bombastic and that it can be artful and eloquent, majestic and mellifluous, poignant and poised.

BY BEN SHERRY, STAFF REPORTER @BENLUCASSHERRY
He’s most famous for creating the two-wheeled
but Kamen’s real legacy can be found elsewhere: in engineering teams across the United States
and the thousands of engineers he’s brought into the tech industry over the past 36 years
Since 1989, Kamen has been building FIRST, a nonprofit focused on teaching STEM skills to kids through robotics
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) hosts thousands of events globally each year
this is the competition they were probably attending
over 3.4 million students have been directly involved in FIRST since its inception
This is in part why Kamen decided on the acronym FIRST
“I’ve never seen kids at a sporting event running around cheering ‘I want to be second!’” says Kamen
who believes that competition inspires kids far more effectively than a pass or fail on a math test
“We want to be competing for their heart and soul—we don’t need another science fair!”
Each year, the FIRST Robotics Competition challenges thousands of teams across the United States (and in additional regions like Brazil and Israel) to design a semi-autonomous robot that can compete in a specific game developed by the nonprofit
and it challenges thousands of student teams in 35 countries worldwide to create a robot that can pick up and move objects
It’s designed to replicate the actions of underwater robots that clean up reefs by removing algae and adding coral
The 2025 Robotics Competition season is made up of 185 events
and more than 90,000 kids from 3,700 teams are expected to participate
Hundreds of regional competitions were held this month
the nonprofit takes over downtown Houston for its national championships
And just like a high school football championship
colleges send talent scouts to these competitions because
“they’re desperate to get to the diversity of kids that we have.”
Now, Kamen has set his sights on a new goal: bringing FIRST from being an after-school activity to being a classroom staple. Last year, former New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu announced plans to bring robotics kits created in partnership with FIRST to every classroom in the state
Kamen pulled off the deal by telling Governor Sununu that his robotics kits cost under $100 to produce
“The cost of making this is less than the cost of a new textbook,” Kamen says he told the governor
“because of the way you guys are getting hosed down by that industry.”
In his final State of the State address, Sununu highlighted the program’s “vertical integration” within the New Hampshire school system; the kits are 3D-printed and built at community colleges
and then sent to K-12 classrooms across the state
FIRST also offers free training to teachers so they can design lesson plans with the robotics kits
“We’ve already shipped 20,000 of these things in New Hampshire,” says Kamen
“So I went to another half-dozen governors and said
‘What are you guys going to do not to be left in the land of the Luddites?’”
are making plans to follow New Hampshire’s lead
Kamen’s attention is on the FIRST Championship
when over 1,000 teams from nearly 60 countries will compete for robotic glory in Houston
Kamen believes they’ll go on to form the next generation of tech leaders

Kamen and Sequel Med Tech CEO Alan Lotvin say they are offering greater precision in insulin delivery with new pump technology in the Twiist device
more precise type of insulin pump that can measure the amount of insulin delivered to users
former president of pharmacy benefit manager CVS Caremark
president of Deka Research and Development
Kamen created one of the first portable insulin pumps in the ‘70s and is also known for another invention — the Segway. Deka developed the new insulin pump, called Twiist, and received Food and Drug Administration clearance in March for the device to be used by people with Type 1 diabetes
MedTech Dive caught up with Lotvin and Kamen to talk about the story behind Sequel and what’s next for the company
Lotvin and Kamen first met through a home dialysis project. While Lotvin was at Caremark, the two were introduced through mutual friends, and CVS launched a trial of a home dialysis device developed by Kamen in 2019
Lotvin saw an early version of the Twiist device
‘I love what I've been doing for the last 20 years
but I really want to get closer to the science and technology,’” Lotvin said
“And I couldn't think of a better group of people to do it with than Dean on the technology and physical science side
and [Royalty Pharma CEO Pablo Legorreta] on the biological science side.”
Kamen invented the first portable insulin pump in the ‘70s, according to the National Inventors Hall of Fame
who was in medical school and was looking for a way to deliver medication to premature infants
Kamen went into his parents’ basement and made a tiny syringe with an electronic component to precisely deliver medication doses
endocrinologists tried using the device for diabetes to see if spreading out insulin delivery throughout the day could lead to better results
Kamen then asked, Can you deliver more insulin when blood glucose levels go up, and stop when blood glucose levels go down? He was told that a sensor was needed and the technology was at least five years away. Kamen started a company called Autosyringe in 1976 to make and sell the technology
waiting for them within five years to tell me they could close the loop,” Kamen said
Dexcom, a leader in the CGM space, was founded in 1999
Kamen could build the system that he wanted
But Kamen still wasn’t satisfied with the technology in existing insulin pumps — wanting more precision in the amount of insulin delivered
Kamen said Twiist differs from other insulin pumps because it has no syringes
Most current pumps use a tiny motor that rotates
causing a plunger to push insulin into the tubing
“Our little Twiist is a device that can monitor and control the flow of the fluid
but it has nothing in its technology that looks anything like a pump,” Kamen said
It also has a feature to measure the amount of insulin actually delivered
the device also has advantages in detecting air or blockages that can affect the amount of insulin delivered
The device is cleared for people with Type 1 diabetes
Lotvin said Sequel is working on CGM partnerships and plans to launch Twiist after working through final details such as quality and customer service
He didn’t share an exact date for a launch
Sequel is working with Tidepool, a nonprofit making the first fully interoperable automated insulin delivery (AID) system
It’s designed so that people can pair sensors with insulin delivery devices of their choice
The Tidepool Loop app can predict a person’s blood sugar levels and ensure they receive the correct insulin dose
Tidepool Loop also has some unique features
including the ability to control insulin delivery from an Apple Watch
and the widest range of blood glucose targets
Sequel chose Tidepool as a partner for these reasons
and because the app was “made by people living with diabetes for people living with diabetes,” Lotvin said
He added that the partnership meets the FDA’s vision for “bring your own device” in diabetes management
Lotvin emphasized the importance of choice in diabetes technology
adding that people want to interact with devices differently
“Some people want to set it and forget it,” he said
“Some people want to play with all the knobs and dials.”
Another goal of Lotvin’s is to change the experience for people living with diabetes
“You have to deal with multiple different parties and multiple different entities
Both Lotvin and Kamen discussed the long-term goal of moving toward “fully closed-loop” insulin delivery systems that don’t require any user input. Most AID systems on the market are hybrid closed loop systems
where users still need to program insulin boluses with meals
safety will be important as people pay less attention to their devices
“We have to give people a much safer system as they start depending more and more on it being closed loop,” said Kamen

"Thunderbolts*" is the latest addition to the growing Marvel Cinematic Universe
and critics are calling it a step in the right direction
Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko)
they escape and embark on a mission to save the mysterious Bob (Lewis Pullman)
a man whose inner demons get amplified by an experimental lab procedure
It's no secret that Marvel Studios has struggled to consistently deliver quality movies since the Infinity Saga concluded with the 2019 ensemble film "Avengers: Endgame."
Critics say that "Thunderbolts*" falls into the latter category
Here's what critics are saying about "Thunderbolts*."
"It's a film about its characters, not about its universe, and it's more concerned with the protagonists' lives and what their actions mean than about sequel set-ups and cameos." — William Bibbiani, TheWrap
"It's a team-up superhero movie that's ballsy enough to set aside the usual labyrinthine weave of subplots and dig into mental health, childhood trauma and domestic abuse — and do it with feeling." — Phil de Semlyen, Time Out
"'Thunderbolts*' always feels like an intimate story about a real person, even as it inches the gargantuan Marvel Cinematic Universe toward its next series of massive crossover films." — Matt Singer, ScreenCrush
"Pugh, in particular, gives the movie an emotional tangibility that makes it feel realms more solid than the last few years of Marvel product." — Alison Willmore, Vulture
"She's a superhero performer, easily navigating the tricky balance between cheeky Marvel-brand humour and genuine pathos." — Radheyan Simonpillai, The Guardian
"Pullman is also excellent, finding complex notes in a role that could have just been CGI-enhanced gobbledygook." — Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
"Ghost remains more of a neat gimmick than an interesting character…" — Nick Schager, The Daily Beast
"Ghost is so woefully underwritten that John-Kamen can't make much of an impact…" — Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
"It's also missing a bit of colour — literally, in the washed-out palette and CG shadow-threat that dominates the latter half of the film — and figuratively, in its subject matter." — John Nugent, Empire
"Schreier's drab aesthetics may be in tune with his villain but by not providing a vibrant visual contrast, the film doesn't totally hit the highs it seeks." — Nick Schager, The Daily Beast
"'Thunderbolts*' recaptures some of the magic of the early Marvel productions, when they felt like some alchemical phenomenon of corporate entertainment, and not just slop." — Alison Willmore, Vulture
Warning: Major spoilers ahead for "Thunderbolts*."
If you head to the theater to watch Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" this weekend
you'll want to stick around until the very end after all the credits have rolled
and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko)
After getting into a death trap purposely set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)
they embark on a mission to rescue Bob (Lewis Pullman)
a man who has gained unparalleled powers because of an experimental lab procedure called Project Sentry
the Thunderbolts support Bob and remind him that he's not alone
Once the Thunderbolts have prevented Bob from succumbing to the Void
Val leads the group into a press conference
where she claims that she's been working behind the scenes for years to develop a new kind of protection: the New Avengers
aka the Thunderbolts crew — hence why the movie's title contains an asterisk at the end
The film ends with a close-up of Yelena smiling
and the Avengers theme can be heard playing faintly
Alexei tells his adoptive daughter Yelena that he was truly happy when he was serving his country
The mid-credits scene is a playful extension of that
showing his delight at being part of the revamped Avengers
Alexei approaches a mother who's in the cereal aisle of a grocery store
so many choices," Alexei says before highlighting the boxes of Wheaties featuring the New Avengers on the packaging
and leaves the product behind on a shelf before scurrying away
and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship plays as the film's full credits roll
has filed for a copyright for the Avengers
Yelena says that she's confused because if Sam is assembling his own version of the Avengers
but the Thunderbolts are the new Avengers team
Alexei then proposes a workaround — calling themselves the Avengerz — to avoid getting sued
but tacky-looking superhero suit that he says is as smooth as a baby seal
Yelena mentions a "huge space crisis," and Bob
who's chosen to keep his powers at bay to prevent another disaster
is reading a book in the corner of the room
The scene ends with text that reads: "The New Avengers and Bob will return."
As the MCU has expanded with a mix of films and TV shows
as Marvel Studios has scaled back its sheer volume of projects
it's a lot easier to see the direction the vast universe is headed in
The movie is set for release on May 1, 2026 and stars returning Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr.
ditching his Iron Man suit to play the iconic villain Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom
Marvel recently revealed the partial list of cast members joining Downey via a five-hour livestream stunt. Among them are "Thunderbolts*" stars Sebastian Stan
"Thunderbolts*" is now playing in theaters

and he is listed as an inventor on more than 1,000 international and U.S
many of them for medical devices such as the first portable insulin pump
He is also president of the research and engineering firm DEKA Research and Development
which has helped transform its home city of Manchester
But Kamen’s most enduring contribution to business and society might be FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
a nonprofit robotics program that has worked with more than three million students globally
ranging from pre-K children to high school seniors
(Disclosure: FIRST is a Fast Company advertiser; this newsletter content was created independent of that partnership.)
Kamen launched FIRST to encourage young people to engage with science and tech
politicians and corporate leaders felt America was losing its economic competitiveness and blamed schools for science and math scores that lagged behind those of students in rival countries such as Japan and Korea
felt the problem wasn’t the schools or the quality of education
but a culture that didn’t celebrate scientific achievement and careers
“All the role models that kids were seeing were [in] the NBA
They knew about the Super Bowl and the World Series,” Kamen says
“This country was still great at creating the entertainment for the world
but our ability to create enough scientists and engineers to keep us in the forefront was in trouble.”
Inspired by the excitement and competitive spirit of sports
FIRST uses teams and tournaments to teach and coach students on the fundamentals of engineering
Kamen says FIRST gives students problem-solving and collaboration skills that will hold them in good stead in the workplace
regardless of whether they pursue careers in science
“We are creating a generation of kids that know how to communicate
And while FIRST motivates students with trophies and awards
Kamen says the program emphasizes sportsmanship
or what he calls “gracious professionalism.”
students will often help opposing teams repair broken robots
the international contest that caps the program’s robotics competition season
the most prestigious award at the championship goes to the crew that is deemed the best role model for other teams and embodies the mission of the program
Idolatry of sports figures may have spurred the creation of FIRST, but a new group of role models has emerged to rival the popularity of professional athletes. Some 57% of Gen Z respondents to a recent Morning Consult poll say they want to be influencers
Kamen is enthusiastic about the role people such as YouTuber Mark Rober can play in advancing FIRST’s mission
“One of the things that technology is doing is lowering the barrier for people to be able to use it, understand it,” he says. Rober, a former NASA engineer with about 58 million subscribers to his YouTube channel, has hosted a FIRST robotics team at his company, attended the FIRST championship earlier this year, and posted a video praising the program
“I think the intersection of these influencers
is starting to have a very significant impact on the future of the pipeline for technology in this country,” Kamen says
noting that the program is in tens of thousands of schools with hundreds of thousands of educators and volunteers
lack funding and partners to meet student demand
Kamen thinks CEOs can help bridge the gap at these schools
“Ask them to look at their marketing budgets
How much money did they put into the Olympics
How many ads did they put on [during] the Super Bowl and the World Series
You get the best of what you celebrate,” he says
make sure that schools in your community have FIRST teams
just like they have football and basketball teams—and let your technical people be out there in front of the kids
showing them how exciting their careers really are.”
How does your company inspire students to pursue careers in your field
Did you participate in an after-school program or activity that taught you “gracious professionalism”
Share your experiences here—I’d love to compile a list of readers’ favorite programs for a future edition of this newsletter

Florence Pugh headlines a super team full of has-beens — and it’s the first MCU movie in years that doesn’t feel like a hack job
Fans of the Marvel comic “Thunderbolts” may have had mixed feelings about this new feature film
The original series was about a team of superheroes who were secretly villains in disguise
who planned to use their celebrity and misplaced public trust to take over the world
It’s one of the cleverest ideas Marvel ever had for a series
and it would have made a pretty cool movie
So it’s odd that the Marvel Cinematic Universe took the title but abandoned the premise
there was more to “Thunderbolts” than that one high concept
with a team of despicable supervillains forced to play nice for their freedom
à la “Suicide Squad.” But in the middle there
Fabian Nicieza converted the series into a freewheeling
excitingly plotted team book about ex-villains struggling to do the right thing
That’s the version of “Thunderbolts” Marvel embraces with their new film
And although it’s hard to shake the sense that on a practical level this studio is just scraping the bottom of the barrel
desperately hoping their minor characters can be converted into headliners
“Thunderbolts*” is the first Marvel movie in years that doesn’t feel like it was either mangled in post or
and it’s more concerned with the protagonists’ lives and what their actions mean than about sequel set-ups and cameos
It’s shot and edited as if there was a plan all along
“Thunderbolts*” may be the umpteenth film in an increasingly unremarkable studio franchise
It’s a tragedy that Marvel has lowered our standards to the point that “not a studio hack job” qualifies as high praise
that’s not all “Thunderbolts*” has going for it
who has serious depression following the death of her sister
Yelena is working for Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)
and her latest assignment is to destroy evidence of de Fontaine’s disastrous scientific experiment to create new superheroes
Yelena has “one last job,” so you know it’s about to go pear-shaped
She’s supposed to kill Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen)
the villain from the second “Ant-Man” movie
the villain from “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” shows up to kill Yelena
the villain from “Black Widow,” shows up to kill Walker
And I’m pretty sure Ghost is supposed to kill Taskmaster too
but it gets a little confusing for a couple of minutes
all these has-been villains and wannabe heroes get set up to kill each other
with a mysterious new guy named Bob (Lewis Pullman) along for the ride
Bob is part of the “Sentry” experiment de Fontaine is trying to cover up
and if you’ve read the comics you know where that is going
Suffice it to say these Thunderbolts* — accidentally named after Yelena’s elementary school sports team — are on the run and Congressman Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is chasing them down since they’re witnesses to de Fontaine’s corruption
but exactly which role she plays in the American government is never actually said out loud
“Thunderbolts*” isn’t terribly interested in American politics
to the point where you wonder why they even brought the subject up
You’d think a superhero congressman would deserve a bigger subplot than this
“Thunderbolts*” is about a team of antiheroes on the run
but it’s been done — and in the MCU no less
director Jake Schreier (“Paper Towns”) is making a movie about mental health
in which these heroes are held back by their shame
By the end of the story they team up not to save the world — although they might do that
too — but to save themselves from debilitating misery
“Thunderbolts*” has the quippy humor we’ve come to expect from Marvel movies
The sad moments in “Thunderbolts*” aren’t undercut by jokes and aren’t tossed aside to get to the action
It is indeed possible to have your cake and eat it too
if your “cake” is clinical depression and “eating it too” is kicking butt
“Thunderbolts*” may not be Marvel’s greatest accomplishment
but there’s not a whole lot to complain about
Two of the Thunderbolts get the short shrift
and that’s a bummer but it’s par for the course in an ensemble team movie
muted color palette that undermines some of the otherwise crafty camerawork and intriguing visual choices
making it look at a glance more like a straight-to-video Jean-Claude Van Damme movie from the 2000s than a big budget blockbuster
These aren’t catastrophic complaints but dang it
“Thunderbolts*” fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper
these Marvel movies feel genuinely working class: the headliners have skedaddled
leaving has-beens and day-players the chance to take center stage
The thought of watching forgotten characters from forgotten movies work through their issues may not dazzle you
and at this point in the franchise that’s a big accomplishment
“Thunderbolts*” hits theaters this Friday
Dean Kamen is getting used to welcoming federal officials to the Millyard
especially when they arrive to announce another round of taxpayer dollars to fund the biofabrication project the inventor launched in 2017
Add the in-kind funds from industry and institutional partners that helped launched the project
and you’re talking about nearly a half-billion dollars toward making the Queen City the epicenter of a new industry that will mass produce human cells
A contingent led by Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves traveled to Manchester on July 2 to formally announce that the effort led by Kamen’s Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) was awarded $44 million from the federal Tech Hubs program
the newly christened ReGen Valley — the name Kamen and his partners hope will one day trump California’s Silicon Valley — was named one of 12 Tech Hubs by the U.S
Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration
The designation put the regional effort in line for a share of $504 million earmarked for the program
“President Biden and Vice President Harris at the start of this administration have been focused on harnessing the American innovation that we see here in Manchester and spreading economic opportunity to every corner of the country,” Graves told a group of ARMI executives
government officials and community partners gathered at 150 Dow Street
a building that is being retrofitted for biofabrication labs and production space
which was preceded by a trolley tour around the Millyard and downtown Manchester for the visiting delegation
gave Kamen the opportunity to thank government leaders
including the state’s all-Democrat congressional delegation
ARMI Deputy Executive Director Maureen Toohey pointed to the YMCA downtown and noted that part of the $44 million will be used to expand child care programs there
While creating a process to mass produce human body parts might seem far-fetched
organizers see among their greatest challenges not just the mysteries of science but the availability of support services for the workforce that will be essential to the effort’s success
“I think it’s pretty clear that when you look at what’s going on all over this country and some of the biggest states with the biggest state and other federal budgets in health care — Texas
New York — what ARMI is doing now with 200 members is creating an explosion of opportunity here,” Kamen told the group
“But it’s put us under stress for child care
to create the workforce of the future we need.”

The announcement marks the federal government’s ongoing investment in the project
which now has more than 200 industry partners
ARMI officials confirmed that the Department of Defense has committed $100 million over the next 10 years to the project
That funding is an extension of the original $80 million secured from the Department of Defense in 2017 that was matched by $214 million from commercial companies
academic institutions and nonprofit partners
Other major awards include $44 million from the Economic Development Administration as part of the Build Back Better Regional Challenge in 2022
Kamen acknowledged the support of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation in supporting legislation that has led to the federal funding ARMI has thus far secured
Jeanne Shaheen noted the vast potential of the work underway to improve health care for people fighting chronic diseases
“All of the innovation that happens here is going to make such a huge difference in the lives of people
not only in New Hampshire but across the country,” Shaheen told the group
The underlying question continues to be whether Manchester and the surrounding communities will be up to the challenge

It’s just a different industry,” Ruais said
