Communications Manager Commercial Specialty Tires
Steffen Korbach is on a quest to build a supercar like no other. “We can make a product the mainstream wants, or we can set trends,” he says boldly. Given that GEMBALLA
is currently raising €20 million to pour into this project
you have to show the customer what is possible to trigger new ideas in them and make them want it.”
To move within the exclusive circle of supercar owners is to be used to a certain swagger – a quality Steffen has cultivated since he was a boy gazing dreamily at the car posters he had stuck on the walls of his room
he had amassed an entire fleet of model cars and a couple of real ones in his garage
“I wanted to start my own company to build my own supercar,” he recalls
founder of the eponymous company best known for making outrageous modifications to Porsche cars
“We can make a product the mainstream wants
Steffen has spent the past nine years focusing on GEMBALLA’s core business
putting the dream of building his own car on the backburner
my vision is to create a small series GEMBALLA car,” he reveals
Steffen’s confidence that such a product will be well-received is not entirely misplaced
the term greatly underrates the scale of modifications that the firm takes on
“I think the word ‘tuning’ gives the wrong impression of what our business is about
they think about minor modifications like putting different wheels on the car
or making it a little wider,” says Steffen
where manufacturer implies mass production
in German it means a small-scale artisanal studio that builds exclusive products.”
An extreme modification by GEMBALLA may take anywhere between three and six months to complete
It usually involves stripping the car down to its basic frame and rebuilding the entire body from scratch – it is as close as anyone could get to building a car without actually doing so
Steffen illustrates the process with the GEMBALLA Tornado
as an example: “The entire body of the original car has been removed and replaced with one of high-quality German-made carbon fibre
The doors have also been replaced by carbon fibre ones built in GEMBALLA’s own facility.”
GEMBALLA has been a registered car manufacturer in Germany since 1985
it’s just a matter of putting this licence to good use in order to realise Steffen’s supercar dream
“Just 10 years ago the supercar/hypercar market was small
There were a few specialised companies such as Pagani and Koenigsegg
the first car priced at €1 million,” says Steffen
“This established the acceptance among collectors of million-dollar automobiles
had a few cars that sold in the 80s for US$1 million (€888,000)
They were probably some of the most expensive cars at that time
It was famous in the 80s and 90s for doing things that no-one had done before
That’s why I think it is the right company to produce a hypercar.”
GEMBALLA is a boutique brand that does not have the scale of better-known names such as Bugatti
But Steffen believes that the firm’s small size is a strength
“Large organisations have many people involved in decision-making and design,” he points out
“This means that they face many restrictions in what they do
Everything has to comply with the brand story
the brand story is also important to GEMBALLA
but because I am the owner as well as the CEO
we have freedom that large companies do not have
We can do what we want; we can do things that may be considered too extreme for the bigger brands
There’s a big chance that we can stand out.”
“We can do what we want; we can do things that may be considered too extreme for the bigger brands
GEMBALLA had just released a teaser photo of the first small series supercar that’s in the works
According to the single digitally-rendered image
which shows only the side profile of the vehicle
all-black beast that calls to mind the Batmobile
although Steffen did mention that the firm is aiming for more than 800bhp
“We want to do something that is not mainstream
It should be typically GEMBALLA,” Steffen says
“We are taking some inspiration from the design features of old-school cars from the 80s and 90s and also incorporating something extreme in its aesthetic.”
the company has plans to build a new production facility that is spacious enough to house both segments of the business
“GEMBALLA will definitely continue with its core business of extreme modifications,” Steffen confirms
“The small series production is just an additional segment of business for the company.”
This is good news for faithful customers of GEMBALLA’s modified vehicles
who love the brand for the extraordinary customisations it can provide
when they buy a standard car – such as a Porsche
for example – go on a configurator on the website to choose from maybe 20 different combinations of interior colours,” says Steffen
“But there are many customers who want something different that is not being offered and this is where GEMBALLA comes in.”
He shares a particularly memorable order the firm took on: “One of the most famous cars we have built is the GEMBALLA Extremo
It was originally built as a promotional vehicle for Fulda
a tyre manufacturer in Germany and then shown in Dubai
It caught the eye of a member of the Saudi royal family
but the car was not for sale as it was only a show car
We had to immediately build a second car for him after he offered us US$1 million (€888,000).”
In addition to small series production and extreme tuning
Steffen is also looking to expand GEMBALLA’s services to include restoration for older or vintage vehicles
we are getting collectors who approach us with rare cars from the 80s or 90s that they want refurbished,” he says
Appealing to royalty and long-time fans is all very well
but Steffen is aware that the future of the company lies with the next generation of car collectors
Under the charismatic leadership of Uwe Gemballa
the brand enjoyed its peak in the 80s and 90s but started to see a drop-off in profits by the 2000s
it was believed that Uwe’s fatal trip to South Africa was to meet with an investor to get funds for the business
Steffen needs to re-establish the clout Uwe brought to the brand among young car collectors – an uphill task
given that most of them were only children when the brand was at its peak and have likely never heard of Uwe before his passing
the competition has only become tougher with the passing of the years
the market wasn’t saturated with so many companies and products,” he says
“And not many firms had the capacity to perform extreme modifications to cars
with the possibilities of production offered by carbon fibre
smaller companies are able to move into the tuning business with much smaller investments.”
those who chose to tune their cars did it to stand out and make a statement
They were very much into extreme designs,” says Steffen
“Today’s generation prefer to buy into trends
But Steffen remains undeterred by the pressure of what other businesses are doing
reiterating what he said earlier about GEMBALLA being a trendsetter that creates new wants and desires among collectors
“We have very big shoes to fill because Uwe was one of the pioneers of the tuning business
I’ve heard people say that GEMBALLA’s no longer the same anymore without him,” Steffen laments
“The challenge for me is to continue his legacy and gain recognition as his successor.”
But before he realises this goal – or the production of a GEMBALLA supercar – Steffen can always turn to his favourite automobile: the Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir
“It’s my favourite because of what it represents
It was the first supercar by a large manufacturer
and the first car with a top speed of 400km/h
I think it is completely underrated and is a car I would never sell.”
Perhaps the Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir is also the model of success Steffen wants GEMBALLA’s first supercar to be

Korbach, Germany, May 16, 2022. New production technologies, new applications, new customers: Continental plans to invest around five million euros in a new plant for the production of industrial hoses at its Korbach site. The production line, which will operate around the clock seven days a week, is scheduled to start up at the end of 2023. This is the largest investment in Korbach in over ten years.
EmailContinental is planning to invest around five million euros in a new plant for the production of industrial hoses at its Korbach site in Germany. With a capacity of around five million meters per year, the new production line in Korbach in northern Hesse will soon be able to manufacture industrial hoses with an inside diameter of up to 38 mm – for food and water, but also for fuels or coolants.
A major plus of the new line is its flexibility: It can produce hoses using different techniques, with inner layers of either rubber or plastic. Thus, both rubber hoses and hybrid hoses made of these two materials are produced on it.
“This gives us tremendous flexibility. On the new plant, we are continuing to manufacture standard products, but also adding new applications. This enables us to better adapt to rapidly changing market needs and expand our product portfolio in a focused manner,” says Dietmann.
Continental’s investment is not just about greater product diversity and increased competitiveness – it also focuses on the issue of sustainability. Thanks to the additional materials expertise and various recycling options, the Korbach site is taking an important step toward climate-neutral production, in line with the Group-wide strategy.
EmailAndreas Gerstenberger is the Executive Vice President of Continental’s industrial section in the USA.“An investment doesn’t just mean spending money to modernize and digitize machines and technologies
it means trust – trust in our employees and the site,” Andreas Gerstenberger
Executive Vice President of the industrial section of the company in the USA
“Our entire hose team in Korbach can be very proud of themselves
for what they have achieved and this investment: they have shown how strong they are in a difficult market environment
the colleagues have taken up the challenges
and made this important investment possible in the first place
It’s a clear commitment to Korbach as a location.”
Continental has discovered that the applicable standards for testing processes for industrial hoses at the ContiTech site in Korbach
testing was not performed consistently at the specified frequency
Continental has been conducting extended quality audits for all hose types in the ContiTech group sector since February 2022
following internal reports of irregularities in air conditioning lines for automotive applications
there are no indications of any irregularities in the use of industrial hoses by customers
The customers come from the mechanical engineering
hose production in Korbach contributed an amount in the mid double-digit million range to consolidated sales in euros
Continental has suspended the sale and delivery of the affected hoses from Korbach until full compliance with the testing processes is ensured
Continental has decided to commission an independent certification company to provide neutral
The company has informed the relevant customers and the initial responsible authorities
Continental has already started to carry out the additionally initiated reviews throughout the ContiTech group sector
The company will consequently take the necessary measures based on the results of its investigations
Due to these ongoing internal investigations
no further information can be provided at this time
Continental’s Korbach factory in Germany
Around €40 million will be invested in Continental’s Korbach factory in Germany by 2018
The company’s Tire Division will use these funds to establish a specialist production line for 19 to 22-inch passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres to meet growing international demand from both the original equipment segments
as well as for the central development of the process technology required to manufacture these tyres
Continental says the performance characteristics of products such as these are placing ever more stringent demands upon its engineering and production staff when it comes to process technology
we are taking deliberate action to scale up our investment programme in the further development of product-specific expertise in tyre design
as well as in the expansion of our global tyre production capacity,” stated Nikolai Setzer
Executive Board member for Continental’s Tire division
“In bundling our expertise at the Korbach site
we will also be taking away some of the burden on our other production sites in a bid to drive forward the development of new high-tech processes for our tyre plants worldwide from a central location,” Setzer added
highly efficient tyre testing technology such as the AIBA
will help us to further improve our technological position.”
Korbach plant manager Lothar Salokat added: “We are extremely proud of the fact that this internal high-tech project will help set us apart from other international production locations and will also create over 60 new jobs in Korbach by 2018
We will do our best to meet the challenges of starting production in 2016 and ramping up the production volume to around 400,000 U-UHP tyres by 2018
which – when we include the Tire Distribution Center and ContiTech – now totals a workforce of more than 3,000 people
has proven time and again not only that it is highly flexible and extremely motivated but is also capable of responding to immense challenges.”
“We see this investment decision as a form of recognition for all the hard work that our employees have put in over recent years,” commented Jörg Schönfelder
head of the Works Council at Continental’s Korbach site
it also forms an important element of our strategy to secure the site
People have enormous faith in us and this is something we can be proud of
Although this project in Korbach is an ambitious one
I am confident that it will also be a success and play an instrumental part in ensuring the success of the company as a whole.”

In addition to making tyres, Continental subsidiaries engage in various, mostly automotive activities, including ContiTech’s production of air conditioning hoses
Last year it transpired that ContiTech hadn’t fully complied with testing norms and standards at its Korbach plant in Germany
an issue affecting up to 2,000 different types of hoses
In September 2022 the company announced the suspension of their sale and delivery “until full compliance with test processes is ensured,” but someone allegedly decided to address the problem by systematically manipulating test results instead
An internal investigation uncovered this potential fraud and authorities are now on the case
German financial daily Handelsblatt reports that the Public Prosecutor’s office (Staatsanwaltschaft) in Frankfurt am Main has launched an investigation into suspected fraud concerning the quality of air conditioning components
The Public Prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart is also investigating potential deception of customers
A spokesperson for the authorities confirmed to Handelsblatt that it has initiated proceedings in response to accusations of the alleged manufacture and sale of air conditioning hoses of a quality differing from that contractually agreed upon
The spokesperson added that ContiTech itself triggered the investigation
contacting law enforcement authorities and reporting the irregularities
The company is fully cooperating with the authorities
The Public Prosecutor’s office is currently focusing on one suspect but may expand the investigation to include others
It is also examining the option of commencing fine proceedings against ContiTech
ContiTech’s customer base includes major German vehicle manufacturers such as Volkswagen

ContiTech self-reported ‘deviations' from standards in hose production last September
Germany – Continental AG is "fully cooperating" with local authorities over investigations into ‘deviations’ from standards relating to hose production at subsidiary ContiTech’s Korbach site in Germany
ContiTech said the authorities started their investigations following the German group’s voluntary announcement of 'misconduct' in September last year
The statement came in response to German press reporting that the German group was being investigated by the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office
“The authorities concerned started their work on the basis of our communication,” ContiTech pointed out in its statement to ERJ
are based on procedures which “have been running since our initial communication and
ContiTech temporarily suspended hose production at Korbach
stating that applicable standards for testing industrial hoses “were not always complied with” at the site
testing had not been carried out consistently at the specified frequency
the German group said it had conducted extended quality audits for all hose types across the ContiTech group
The quality checks were prompted by reports of irregularities in hose-lines for automotive applications, such as refuelling
hose production in Korbach contributed a “mid double-digit million euro” amount to Continental revenues

the firm is preparing to develop its very own supercar it says will offer more than 800hp (597kW)
and has teased a sketch of the model online this week
the Gemballa supercar is currently awaiting financial backing
The prototype is expected to arrive as early as next year
and according to Korbach will be an “uncompromising vehicle
If the project gets up it will be the first vehicle Gemballa has produced in nine years
The company has something of an illustrious past since being listed as a registered vehicle manufacturer in 1985
Its founder Uwe Gemballa was found murdered in South Africa in 2010
before the company saved by Korbach with a $US17 million cash injection shortly thereafter
Korbach says a further $US22.5 million is required to fund the as yet unnamed supercar, and that if all goes to plan, the model will be in showrooms from early 2022
“We’re planning a thoroughbred super sports car with a unique
aggressive design and engine power considerably over 800hp,” Korbach explained in his press release
we’d like to reference the existing Gemballa legends
and implement a range of innovative concepts
we would also like to establish Gemballa in future as a stand-alone small production run manufacturer
but also launch as an exclusive modification company for extreme
complete conversions of Porsche cars,” he concluded
It’s understood the capital required to finance the project will be raised through private equity and venture capital companies
with Korbach saying “concrete discussions are already underway”
The low-volume tuning house will continue to churn out modified Porsches alongside its supercar development
Gemballa’s previous super-tuners include names such as the Avalanche
Steffen Korbach and his brother Sebastian are at the heart of a major financial scandal
accused of orchestrating an elaborate scheme to defraud investors through cryptocurrency and stock market manipulation
The once-celebrated names behind the luxury car tuning company Gemballa are now under intense scrutiny for their alleged involvement in money laundering and fraudulent Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)
The Korbach brothers are accused of running a fraudulent ICO that swindled investors out of millions of dollars
Steffen and Sebastian enticed investors with promises of manufacturing and distributing thousands of cryptocurrency ATMs across Europe
which would convert cryptocurrency to cash
In a 2018 interview
Sebastian pledged to manufacture and deploy 500 ATM machines within 6 months
linked to Trilliant's proprietary crypto exchange system
with fractional ownership and profit-sharing incentives to investors
Despite raising substantial funds, the brothers failed to deliver on their promises. Over $1.4 million worth of tokens were sold in a private pre-sale before the ICO
and industry insiders speculate they raised over 10 million dollars in total
Yet, the ATMs never materialized, and the proposed crypto exchange was never established. The official website and whitepaper vanished, leaving investors in the dark, and the promised revenue share was never distributed. In his unsuccessful effort to remove incriminating evidence, Korbach was laughed at on social media by investigators he tried to deceive
Despite denials and attempts to erase his connection to the companies by claiming the companies that deceived customers were created by criminals in other jurisdictions, multiple investigators have published evidence that Steffen Korbach was in fact the owner and director
Both of these Korbach owned and controlled companies are implicated in the downfall of Gladius Network. Despite Korbach's efforts to deny the connection, in 2018, Trilliant AG announced publicly on Twitter a partnership with the Gladius Network
Cryptocurrency Expert: "The case of Steffen Korbach is a textbook example of how the cryptocurrency market can be manipulated by bad actors
The lack of regulatory oversight in the early stages of crypto adoption allowed individuals like Korbach to exploit investor enthusiasm through fraudulent ICOs and pump-and-dump schemes
The sudden disappearance of Trilliant AG's promised projects and the questionable activities of related entities suggest a deliberate strategy to launder money and defraud investors
without any legitimate business activities to back it up
points to a complex web of illicit transactions and money laundering that warrants thorough investigation by financial authorities."
The Korbach brothers' deceit didn't stop at Trilliant AG
Steffen is linked to several companies involved in alleged fraud and money laundering
including Gladius Network ICO and Crypto Capital Co
promising a cybersecurity network to rent spare computer bandwidth
with Steffen denying involvement and blaming similarly named entities in other jurisdictions
lured by promises of high returns and anonymity
invested 350,000 euros after meeting Steffen at Gemballa
I had never heard of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency," Muller said
"Korbach assured me of high returns and anonymity
which appealed to me during my divorce proceedings
I gave him the money but never received any tokens."
recounted his experience: "Korbach boasted about making a fortune through market manipulation and insider trading
He promised that the lack of regulatory oversight in the crypto market made it easy to manipulate prices." Schmidt invested 1.5 million euros
believing in the potential for huge returns
A search of the executives' names revealed inconsistencies
such as Steffen Korbach's LinkedIn profile falsely claiming he studied at Columbia University
raised over $13 million for failed crypto projects
resulting in complete losses for investors
Gemballa, the prestigious car tuning company founded by Uwe Gemballa, has been under suspicion for years due to its founder's involvement in money laundering
The company allegedly used its status as an official car manufacturer to export vehicles stuffed with cash
taking advantage of the exemption from customs inspections
This dark legacy continued under Steffen Korbach
who acquired the company in 2010 during a period when it was mired in debt and scandal
The Korbach brothers' alleged fraud has left a trail of financial devastation and mistrust in the cryptocurrency industry
Authorities urge investors to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before investing in ICOs
highlighting the need for greater regulation and transparency in the rapidly evolving crypto market
the once-enigmatic figures of Steffen and Sebastian Korbach are now under intense scrutiny
their luxurious lifestyles and business empires potentially built on a foundation of deceit and crime
