There are a number of fascinating districts in the city
but for me the most fascinating and entertaining neighborhood in this cool city is Kreuzberg 36
which is not as cool; I didn’t live there)
Kreuzberg had the hippest bars with the hippest clientele
with slick minimalist furniture and songs by Kraftwerk
To understand what made Kreuzberg different you have to know some of the city’s history and to understand why Daniela Klette
one of the last living members of the German terrorist group Red Army Faction
lived undetected in Kreuzberg for twenty years until she was captured earlier this year.
When Germany (and Berlin) was divided into East and West, the city became a democratic island in a sea of Communist tyranny. The status of West Berlin was vague, as it was not formally considered a part of the Federal Republic of Germany. As a result, citizens of West Berlin were exempt from being drafted into the German army
Some young men moved to Berlin immediately after graduating from high school and therefore never served in the military
Some 50,000 West Germans eventually evaded compulsory military service this way
because rents were cheap and there were many abandoned buildings ideal for squatting
They helped create an anti-establishment culture that occasionally turned violent (read about the May Day riots of 1987
which were inspired by a boycott of the census)
as well as the city’s most diverse and tolerant neighborhood
so there is lots of cutting-edge art to see and new music to hear.
That demographic movement continued after the fall of the Wall
also drawn by the inexpensive cost of living in the district
Kreuzberg 36 today has one of the youngest populations of all European city districts and about 30% of its inhabitants are migrants
creative and incredibly dynamic district in which all aspects
Kreuzberg has long been home to Berlin’s punk rock movement as well as other alternative subcultures.
Check out the classic SO36 club
which was founded in the 1970s and often hosted concerts by such rock luminaries as Iggy Pop and David Bowie
Today it remains on the cutting edge of live performances and hosts such unique events as a roller disco and a queer sing-along
Hip-hop and rap are big in Kreuzberg, which is also Berlin’s breakdance center. And the district is the heart of Berlin’s LGBTQ life. Have a look, if you’re interested, at the Schwules Museum (the Queer Museum)
which is dedicated to recording and preserving queer history
Kreuzberg 36 is also known for the poor education level of a segment of its inhabitants and
a high unemployment rate and an unfortunately lively drug scene
(The otherwise pleasant Görlitzer Park has become a drug-dealing center and should
In 2001, a city-wide administrative reform married the district to adjoining Friedrichshain to create the borough of – wait for it – Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. It was a puzzling decision since the two areas are connected only by a bridge, the Oberbaumbrücke.
Since Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg were on opposite sides of the former East-West divide
the decision was probably made to symbolize a unity that remains today more wishful thinking than real
few West Berliners traveled into the former East Berlin
“The Wall is still there – in people’s heads.”
But the bridge is very nice and worth a look
Berlin isn’t the largest city in the world in terms of area
only 891 square kilometers (344 square miles)
London’s 1,572 square kilometers (607 square miles)
The city is really spread out and even with the U-Bahn and S-Bahn it can take a long time to get where you’re going.
I’m not going to recommend walking through the city
Berlin has an excellent cycling infrastructure
with traffic lights on most crossings and intersections.
so cycling around the city will not require a superhuman effort
Several well-known bike-sharing companies ply their trade in the city
The first-half-hour is usually free (if not
so you can theoretically ride to your destinations for free during your entire stay
One great advantage of having a large immigrant population is that it improves the quality of the street food
But leave it to the Germans to serve street food indoors
Of course you can find street food in the street
especially at the city’s many markets.
For the greatest variety of Kreuzberg street food, visit Markthalle Neun
The place has become an institution of food with stands offering everything from sit-down pasta to takeaway veggie balls
from cheese and spinach dumplings to home-brewed beer.
the prices are pretty high for street food; for example
you can eat regional food from all over the world there
Go at least once for the experience and to try some Nigerian fufu or Bavarian mac and cheese
Or go to Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap
little more than a hut that serves a great version of one of the staples of Berlin street food
it’s worth the long journey and the inevitable long line.
Also try one of the five Wrapublics in Berlin – of course
As the name suggests they put soft and crispy wraps around food and sell it for 5 to 10 euros
But what you really want to do is go to one or more of the many markets and try real in-the-street street food
the brainchild of a Turkish immigrant; the Currywurst
a sausage spiced with curry ketchup and Bratwurst
a sausage that can be fried or grilled.
For the best Currywurst in Kreuzberg, try Ketels Curry at Kottbusser Damm 1
It’s a takeaway place that sometimes puts a few tables on the sidewalk
Must-See: The East Side Gallery is a large remnant of the Wall that has been painted over by some wonderful artists
and illustrates the power of art over tyranny
Boxhagenerplatz: Located in Friedrichshain
a flea market on Sunday and the cool and suggestively named Mokofuk café
Oranienstrasse is the heartbeat of Kreuzberg, with many cafés and small shops as well as restaurant serving a variety of international cuisines at decent prices. It’s also the street on which you might want to spend your evenings, with lots of pubs and some of Berlin’s most famous clubs, such as Ritter Butzke (on Moritzplatz) and Farbfernseher (near the Görlitzer Bahnhof)
Check out Michelle Tambolini’s “Butterfly” at Krossener Strasse 36; the anonymous work at Kreutzigerstraße 19; and “There’s no such Thing as Bad Publicity,” by Mateo Lepeintre (aka MTO)
But just keep your eyes peeled as you walk through the district
There’s always something somewhere to look at and admire
I mention Checkpoint Charlie just because everyone wants to see it
But the truth is that it ain’t what it used to be
It has been updated and upgraded and is no longer recognizable
I crossed into the former East Berlin via Checkpoint Charlie three months before the Wall was torn down
Waiting on a line to have my passport checked
I was taken aside by an East German police officer because I spoke English
He took me to a small room and asked me to empty my pockets
It was suddenly clear to me that I could disappear without a trace.
The situation became serious when he examined my wallet and found four different currencies in it: German
souvenirs from a recent trip to the Americas
But when I dropped some coins on the floor and the man got on his hands and knees to retrieve them
I realized that it was all a bluff.
I am not big on pompous or nationalist architecture because its primary function is to project power
This is why I only saw the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate when I happened to pass them on the way to somewhere else
Berlin is a city overstuffed with history
and there are plenty of historic sites worth seeing
The Topography of Terror is an outdoor and indoor history museum and memorial on the grounds of the site of the former Gestapo headquarters
Such was the collective amnesia of the Germans after the Holocaust that they didn’t “discover” the site until the mid-1960s
though everyone of course knew that it was there
The Wall ran along one side of the street and it is still standing there
The city’s Holocaust memorial, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
It is both grim and quite moving.
one of the escape tunnels East Germans used to escape to the West was opened to the public
The100-meter (328-foot) section is located near Berlin’s Wall Memorial
which runs along both sides of Bernauer Strasse.
Berlin is above all a fun place to visit. It has clubs and bars galore
Keep your eyes open as you walk or cycle and you’ll find something interesting to explore
A special mention goes to the Yaam (Young and African Arts Market)
African dinners and is a great place to meet and greet people
It’s also a prime chill-out venue in the summer
An extra-special mention for the Strandbars (or beach bars)
There are about a dozen throughout the city
but I will cite only those that are actually located on the water and have actual sand and
All except one of these are on the Spree river
It was a brilliant move by the city to transform what once formed part of Berlin’s Iron Curtain into a party spot
NB: (1) They are open only in good weather and (2) swimming is not allowed in the Spree
Strandbar Sage Beach is on the Spree at Köpenicker Straße in Kreuzberg (free admission Mon
Captains Beach is located across from the East Side Gallery (daybeds
the Überseebar at the Weißensee is the one beach bar where you can actually go swimming (sand
lots of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
If you don’t mind basic accommodations and a shared bathroom, the a&o Hostel in Friedrichshain is a very affordable option
The chain has two other hostels in the city
but this one is on Boxhagener Strasse and therefore conveniently located for a short walk or bike ride to Kreuzberg 36
Berlin is a city to visit and revisit because it has so much to give and gives it cheaply
Other interesting districts to explore are Neukölln (a Turkish market
the DesignPanopticon – Museum for bizarre objects)
and Schöneberg (David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich lived here

This slick club was one of the driving forces behind the rise of minimal techno in mid-2000s Berlin
as well as the first to feature a ceiling-mounted responsive LED lighting system
The downstairs Water Floor is particularly impressive with its panorama windows looking directly out onto the Spree
as well as a floating deck terrace for watching the sunrise over Kreuzberg
Occasionally it can feel a little overrun with tourists on the weekends
and its increasingly populist bookings don’t help
but pick the right night and you’ll still feel its original magic
Wednesday nights are for the professional ravers
and there’s few places where you can party well into a weekday morning with such a fine central view of the city
The music is usually some form of tech-house

There has been increased attention in recent years to preserving street art, which is vulnerable both to degradation over time as well as deliberate vandalism. For instance, in 2021
Italian chemists figured out how to use hydrogels to remove added graffiti from vandalized murals in Florence
(Over-painting by vandals is so chemically similar to the original painting underneath that it is difficult to selectively remove just the over-painting without damaging the original.) Unlike most classic masterpieces of the past
created with paints designed to last centuries
the painters didn't bother to document the specific materials they used
or other useful information that conservators could use to restore or conserve street art
Modern painting materials are also much more complex
and manufacturers typically do not report specific information on the composition of those materials
"Each product is a mixture of various components: Pigments and dyes give the color; solvents allow the mixture either to flow through the nozzle of spray or to be spread with a brush," Francesco Armetta of the University of Palermo and co-authors wrote in their paper
"The binders serve to hold the mixture together and allow it to adhere to the surface on which it is spread; emulsifiers
and other components are added to improve specific properties."
Nondestructive techniques like Raman spectroscopy are often used to identify the molecular signatures of pigments
but this usually requires bringing samples to the lab
Handheld Raman devices are used for cases where analysis must be done on-site
but they are far less precise than full-size laboratory equipment
decided to adopt a machine-learning approach to enhance the precision and sensitivity of spectral data collected by those handheld devices
The team collected 15 pictorial fragments of five different colors from Berlin Wall paintings
They used handheld Raman spectroscopy on the paint chips and compared that spectral data to a commercial library of pigment spectra
confirming those findings with X-ray fluorescence and optical fiber reflectance spectroscopy
Most of the fragments had two top layers that had been painted with a brush rather than spray paint; brushstrokes were clearly visible under a microscope in several cases
was white and probably used to prepare the surface for painting
Calcium and titanium were the most abundant elements in all the samples
Chromium and lead were present in a green-colored sample
and the authors think this was mixed with another color to get that particular shade
There were also traces of copper in blue and green samples
also created their own mock-up samples by mixing commercial German acrylic paints (commonly used since the 1800s) in different ratios to try to match colors and tints from the fragments—crucial information for restoration
This is where their machine-learning algorithm (dubbed SAPNet) proved useful
They trained it on the Raman spectral data from the Berlin Wall samples and used it to determine the percentage of pigment
The model concluded that the Berlin Wall paint chips contained titanium white and as much as 75 percent pigment
"The identification of most of the components of the fragments was only possible through the comprehensive evaluation of the results provided by all the techniques [combined]," the authors concluded
further augmented by the development of SAPNet
"While SAPNet was specifically tailored for pigment mixture analysis
its robust framework demonstrates the transformative potential of deep learning methodologies for Raman spectral analysis across diverse scientific and industrial applications."

and ultimately which of the four color seasons and 16 sub-seasons they each fall into
Theories of color analysis have expanded the palettes to become more inclusive for a range of skin colors
“Your skin and your eyes and everything are loving the warm colors,” Dworak told Kreuzberg as she draped her in a rich rust-orange

and House of Colour has grown — along with the popularity of color analysis — from a few dozen consultants in the U.S
“People used to just think I was like way out there
that I would pay somebody for a color palette
But now everybody knows what I’m talking about,” said Cedar Boschan
who has had several color and style consultations
She estimates she’s paid about $4,000 for the services over several years

She runs her own forensic accounting firm serving the entertainment industry
and said cultivating a strong personal brand is key to her business
said marketing professor Americus Reed at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School
“People are are starting to use these technologies to construct this identity and project it to the world
The global image consulting market overall is currently around around $4 billion
and the services are appealing to a broader audience than ever before
Reed said it’s tapped into an age-old need: “I think we’re hardwired to figure out these deeper questions of identity
Lauren Kreuzberg and Debbie O’Keefe have an answer
you guys — autumns in the house!” Dworak exclaims
Kreuzberg was typed as a more neutral “Dark Blue Autumn,” while her mother Debbie O’Keefe was typed as a more classic “Autumn Leaf” in the House of Colour system
Dworak said she’s gone from $0 in her bank account five years ago to earning enough to recently buy and renovate an historic building in downtown Papillion

the composer – renowned for drifting between genres as freely as his stage name
implies – found himself in the Californian desert working on something new
was to be a collision of sound and dance exploring the ancient parable of Pandora through the prism of technology
“It was one of quite a few left turns I was taking around that time,” recalls Shepherd
his multiple end-of-year-list-topping previous record
had seen him swap his typical modular synth tapestries and intricate drum patterns for airy dreamscapes
crafted with late legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra
a Mercury Prize nomination and sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl in September 2023 followed
Between these projects and an upcoming anime score for Adult Swim
from the outside it might have seemed as though Shepherd was departing the dance floor for good
at night he found himself longing for the sweaty communion of the club; for the pulse-racing abandon of electronic music once more
It was hailed as one of the albums of that year by Pitchfork
Loud And Quiet and more – “but I never got to explore its ravey
experimental side live,” laments the musician
whose world tour was cancelled by lockdown
Cascade was devised as a follow-on from Crush that would allow him (and audiences) to experience Floating Points in its traditional form on a dancefloor once more: bursting with Buchla rhythms
glitching melodies bewitching a room full of heaving bodies
“It’s meant to be kind of a continuation,” adds Shepherd
This explains Cascade’s artwork: another colourful sleeve
full of fluid imagery (created once more by Tokyo-based artist Akiko Nakayama
It also explains its evocative title: like Crush
it explains its mesmerising sound: sumptuous sonic chasms to lose yourself in again and again.
Not only in terms of his set-up – “I have a studio at home with all the gear I usually use
but I wasn’t there so I had to use my laptop
doing it all on headphones,” he says – but in terms of his connection to electronic music
and to his home city where his love of music first flourished
“There’s something about Manchester that keeps coming back to me
and I think it’s partly to do with its record shops,” says the producer
who found himself instinctively naming tracks after local landmarks and institutions
my school was around the corner from the Northern Quarter so at lunchtimes
I’d run out of the school gates and skip lunch altogether to go and listen to records.” He jokes that he’s sure he was “a total pain in the arse” for the shop staff
I’d be listening to Autechre at Pelican Neck
David Morales mixes at the Factory Records shop… It gave me a parallel education in music to what I was being taught at school.”
Songs like ‘Afflecks Palace,’ an enveloping glide of harp melodies overtaken by otherworldly bleeps and beeps
named after a Mancunian market described as an “emporium of eclecticism.” Elsewhere on Cascade
named after “an underground Manchester radio station I’d listen to religiously” that helped expand his music sensibilities beyond the classical composers he focused on in his academic work (Shepherd studied composition at Chetham’s School of Music)
like the hypnotic ‘Del Oro’ (named after the street he was staying on in the Californian desert) and ‘Ocotillo’ (named after a cactus-like plant in bloom during his stay) took inspiration from his dust bowl surroundings
but make no mistake: Cascade is a record forged in an adolescence spent in Manchester
discovering the mind-expanding (and emotion-purging) power of electronic music in all its forms
Cascade nonetheless pushes Floating Points’ sound forward into new places
The nine songs here are allowed to smoulder and spark for up to eight minutes at a time
allowing for more expansive exploration of sounds and grooves than before
And when the ambient experimentation of ‘Ablaze’ begins to draw the album to a close
it’s clear that those “left turns” Shepherd spoke of preceding this album have left their mark on him
the composer has discovered ways to thread his experiments outside of club music seamlessly into his music designed for the dancefloor
“I’m just constantly chasing challenges,” says Shepherd
explaining how this album fits into his ever-expanding web of creative projects
which sold out each night of its multiple runs
he’s now writing film scores and building a sound system that he hopes to soon take on the road
all around preparations for a busy festival season (appearances at Fuji Rock and All Points East await
with live visuals by long-time collaborators Hamill Industries working alongside Akiko Nakayama delivering enthralling visuals at each)
“I always want to keep things moving and go all in on things that excite me
Whether that’s working with a 100-piece orchestra on a ballet or on a laptop on my own,” Shepherd grins
Cascade is the proof – when it comes to electronic innovation and simmering tracks that stand hairs on end

Berlin’s Karnival der Kulturen to change location in 2025BookmarkBookmarkBy Olivia LoganFeb 15, 2025This year’s Karnival der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) parade in Berlin will be run along a different route than normal
according to an announcement from event organisers
one of the highlights of Berlin’s eclectic calendar
Karnival der Kulturen will leave its home in Kreuzberg for a new location
Instead of the carnival parade snaking around the Gneisenaustraße neighbourhood
Friedrichshain’s Frankfurter Allee Boulevard will play host on June 6
The parade will begin at Proskauer Straße and finish at Berolinastraße
The traditional route in Kreuzberg has been ruled out due to construction works by Berlin's water authority
will be held in the standard Kreuzberg locations
This year marks the 27th edition of the festival, which was inspired by similar events such as Notting Hill Carnival in London and Zomercarnaval in Rotterdam
organisers expect to welcome around 500.000 revellers in Berlin

Berlin’s gentrification and zombification is in full swing
We would rather destroy our street art than let it contribute to that process
The sound of a megaphone shrills through the cold Berlin night air
Others silently wipe tears off their cheeks
“It’s the first time in my career as an artist that somebody is booing me,” says a voice next to me
We stop painting for a moment to watch the small crowd that has gathered on the other side of the fence
about 25 metres beneath our lifting platform
But there’s little time for introspection: almost 1,000 sq m of brick wall still needs to be covered with black paint by tomorrow morning
Many assumed that property developers had killed off their beloved mural
and few realised that the people behind it were the ones who created it in the first place
So we have decided to tell our side of the story
Seven years after the monumental wall pieces came into being, we felt it was time for them to vanish, along with the fading era in Berlin’s history that they represented. The story of the mural is directly linked to the history of this district of the city, which used to border directly on to East Germany
a collaboration between Blu and French artist JR
depicts two figures in the act of unmasking each other
showing the “east side” and “west side” gang signs
Blu and I had decided to renovate the two figures
but instead spontaneously added a second mural on a wall next to them: a businessman chained by his golden watches
Photograph: Lutz HenkeThese pieces boldly claimed worldwide attention
becoming what Siegfried Kracauer in 1930 described as Raumbilder: unconsciously produced spatial images which are the “dreams of society”
we had created an ideal visual representation of the imaginary Berlin of the noughties and its promises: a city full of wasteland offering plenty of space for affordable living and creative experimentation among the ruins of its recent history
These features became the main attractions and the mantra of the recently departed mayor Klaus Wowereit’s notorious “poor but sexy” Berlin
The murals took their involuntary place in this reality as a pilgrimage site of guided street art tours
as a photo opportunity for countless greeting cards
The city started to use the aesthetics of resistance for its marketing campaigns
But by this time the neighbourhood had already found itself in the thick of gentrification
And of course art – especially highly visible public art
just think of Banksy – contributes to this process
While Berlin on the one hand prides itself on its art scene
its failed urban development and cultural policy squandered much of the city’s rare spatial potential
and thereby also jeopardised the existence of its main attraction – the artists
They found themselves to be their own biggest enemies
After the painting over the Kreuzberg murals
Photograph: Lutz HenkeGentrification in Berlin lately doesn’t content itself with destroying creative spaces
Because it needs its artistic brand to remain attractive
it tends to artificially reanimate the creativity it has displaced
This zombification is threatening to turn Berlin into a museal city of veneers
the “art scene” preserved as an amusement park for those who can afford the rising rents
why would an artist agree to destroy his own work instead of endorsing official attempts to preserve it as a public work of art
It is the nature of street art to occupy space in celebration of its uncertainty
being aware of its temporality and fleeting existence
in this case black – washing also signifies a rebirth: as a wake-up call to the city and its dwellers
a reminder of the necessity to preserve affordable and lively spaces of possibility
instead of producing undead taxidermies of art
It stresses the social function of artistic interventions where others fail to advance

Let’s start with one of the absolute veterans that you simply can’t avoid when barhopping: The Roses
it is located in the absolute epicenter of nightlife in Kreuzberg and is popular with Berlin natives
The Roses scores particularly well in terms of atmosphere: The walls are clad in pink plush and adorned with eccentric décor
creating a complete immersion in the spirit of the bar as soon as you enter
it represents a pleasant break in style from the otherwise overly stylish bar scene in Berlin
but that’s also part of the experience
as are late nights – or rather early mornings
📍Oranienstrasse 187, 10999 Berlin
it’s always worth waiting in line and watching the bartenders do their masterful work
the choking angel looks like a symbolic image for a bar
A glass display case with a number of spirits sits enthroned behind a carved dark wood bar
The atmosphere is a little gloomy but still extremely inviting

Nomi Bar is a new face on the Kreuzberg bar scene in 2022
so it’s still a little under the radar
In addition to an incredibly beautiful atmosphere with a modern yet cozy interior
Each variety is carefully selected by the operators and must always meet two specific criteria: All wines come from the hands of female winemakers and must have soul
you can expect both classic and home-made highballs as well as lots of pickled vegetables
olives and good sourdough bread that can be nibbled on the side
📍Manteuffelstraße 100, 10997 Berlin
In a former furniture store – whose neon signs have never been removed from the building complex – there has been a bar of the same name for years
which is particularly well known in the LGBTQ+ scene in Kreuzberg
It is located right on Kotti and organizes a Lesbian Night every Tuesday
But it’s also worth a visit on all other evenings
because the music is good and the drinks are cheap
The pieces of furniture mounted on the walls are particularly striking and commemorate the former owners

Looking for a bar with nostalgic charm and good drinks
from retro armchairs to old telephones and antique wallpaper
The drinks are excellent and for good reason: All bartenders are trained in an in-house bar school to guarantee the most consistent drinking experience possible

as the entrance is quite inconspicuous and dingy
hidden between a supermarket and a parking garage in the center of Kreuzberg (NKZ)
you are greeted by a surprisingly elegant atmosphere that resembles a classic cocktail bar
Impressive chandeliers pose in front of bare walls
A wooden work of art is suspended from the ceiling
Just below is a wooden counter with US diner-style bar stools
The drinks are also really enchanting and definitely invite you to stay

On the first floor of a residential building directly on Kotti
the drinks and beers on offer here are super cheap
You can then enjoy them on one of the many seating levels in the bar
which make the most of the rather small bar in terms of space
Everything in the store is made of pallets
There is also a swing for maximum relaxation
but to be honest you can only enjoy it to the full in the early evening

Text description provided by the architects. In April of 2010 the architecture community gathered to protect one of the many at risk postmodern buildings of the 1980s.
The new owners of the Kreuzberg Tower by John Hejduk drew negative attention from notable architects when they began altering the building’s façade. The Kreuzberg Tower’s façade has now been restored, and the attention it received reflects on its postmodern history, and the prominence of its important designer.
Hejduk began his career at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art where he later served as dean from 1972 to 2000. The revered architect and artist built very few buildings, and is most recognized for his written, academic, and theoretical contributions to architecture.
He was a member of both the New York Five and The Texas Rangers, and wrote poetry as well as theory. The Kreuzberg Tower is a rare example of his built work.
The Kreuzberg Tower was part of the 1987 International BauAufstellung (IBA) Program. The German program continues to support innovative architecture and design through built and unbuilt projects. In 1987 the IBA invited noted architects and designers to envision new low and middle income housing for West Berlin.
Hejduk’s project is composed of a 14 story tower with two separate 5 story wings. The neutral colored tower and wings feature green geometric shapes attached to the facades. These extrusions serve as balconies and sun shades for the low income housing units.
Proposed refurbishment by the owners had included changes such as removal of the sun shades and expanding the balconies.
The negative attention produced by the architecture community halted the changes and encouraged a reconsideration of the importance of the building. Instead of the initial changes, a full renovation is planned for the Kreuzberg Tower, including the surrounding gardens, which were designed but never realized.
Today the Kreuzberg Tower is protected by the government with a clause stating that plans to alter it must be considered by the city’s building department and appropriate historians
This total reversal is thanks to the outspoken architecture community
and the recognition and response by the city for a unique building and its influential pedagogue designer

The band jumped to the larger Columbia label for 1998’s Elephant Riders
Clutch re-joined the Atlantic ranks in 2001 for their 4th studio album
the six-figure selling „Pure Rock Fury“

Clutch was now passing and/or outlasting the majority of their mid/late 90’s contemporaries
2005’s „Robot Hive/Exodus“ (DRT)
showcasing a diversity most rock bands could never dream of pulling off
2007’s „From Beale Street to Oblivion“ took off where RH/E’s final track „Gravel Road“ left off… It was a hardened
simple blues approach with power that took the former Germantown High School compatriots to the next level
„Electric Worry“ wasn’t just another successful Top 40 rock single
but it’s anthem like „Bang Bang Bang Bang
Vamanos“ chorus and high energy guitar jam/drum solo ending became an instant Clutch classic
In 2008 the four band members and longtime manager Jack began forging plans for the Clutch owned and operated label
Weathermaker Music quickly found a home at Sony/RED Distribution
Since 2013 the label is distributed via Rough Trade Distribution/Believe and its sub-distributors in Europe
“Strange Cousins From the West“ was released in 2009
It debuted at #37 on the Billboard pop/sales charts
initially becoming the best-selling Clutch release of their storied career
In 2013 Weathermaker Music released „Earth Rocker” which went straight to #1 in the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums
and #15 in the main Billboard Top 200 album charts
“Earth Rocker” has been described as heavier and faster than the preceding albums
“Psychic Warfare,” in 2015 via their own label
1 on both the Hard Rock and Rock Billboard charts
Weathermaker Music released the 12th Clutch album
1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Charts and came in at No
the album entered various European and Australian charts
Rolling Stone magazine stated that „Book of Bad Decisions is another solid latter-day Clutch record
bathed in the grit and liberal fuzz tone that have made their live shows legendary.” Clutch is recognized as one of the best rock acts of the modern era
Decades of global touring have been one of the main drivers of Clutch’s success
or big festival appearances on several continents
fans love and continue to support this band
In 2025 Weathermaker will release the band’s 1995 Self Titled release on 180 gram vinyl
This release will be supported in Europe and North America with a tour in which the band will play the record in sequence and in its entirety
staging and lighting will be designed to enhance the vibe of this groundbreaking release
The band is excited to bring this unique show to its fans

Modern day Kreuzberg is one of Berlin’s most trendy and multicultural neighbourhoods
alongside residential streets and lucrative river views all fuse to embody a vibrant urban lifestyle
Kreuzberg encapsulates many of the remarkable elements that make Berlin one of the most attractive German cities to live in today
as well as a leading tourist destination and a hub for the international cosmopolitan elite
Today it’s almost impossible to imagine that
Kreuzberg was at the front line of the conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States
Located on the Western side of the Iron Curtain’s demilitarised border zone
the neighbourhood was a rundown frontier precinct
Sniper fire from the eastern border guards was a daily reality
and at night the area would be floodlit to detect defectors from the Eastern bloc
with military fortifications dividing and tightly sealing the streets and public spaces that once formed the city’s civic centre
When citizens started tearing down the Berlin wall on November 9
it marked the return of the original urban core
People flooded across the defunct border to see the other side of their own city for the first time in more than 28 years
The powerful symbolism of this moment cannot be overstated. But the process of healing that came afterwards was arguably just as significant. Both sides of the city benefited from community groups coming together – with strong support from the federal government – to regenerate Berlin’s heart
The rebuilding and renewal of the nation’s capital came to represent postwar healing and remembrance
and Berlin became an international poster child for peace and optimism
Berlin’s urban transformation continues to foster hope for cities still divided by national conflicts: Baghdad
Kirkuk and Sarajevo – to name but a few of the most widely known cases
Though there’s little chance of complete reconciliation in these cities under the current circumstances
a rapid process of urban renewal can take place
Yet bringing down the Iron Curtain overnight ended decades of bitter rivalry
which just days earlier seemed a rock-solid fact
Kreuzberg’s pivotal shift from the front line of the Cold War
to the centrepiece of a united and vibrant urban core
has shown that urban planning and policy can be critical tools in designing an effective
under an umbrella that protects the public interest
Berlin is proof that divided cities can become whole again
the city’s transformation shows how vital it is for governments and citizens to be cognisant of new forms of injustice
to organise and use the tools at their disposal to confront the unique and unprecedented political
social and environmental challenges of the 21st century
