Five-time world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik made a fine start to his bid for Speedway GP World Championship No.6 after winning the WWK FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut sprint race on Saturday afternoon
In the first-ever knockout-style Qualifying session
head-to-head duels to set the fastest lap time
Zmarzlik defeated two of his closest friends and rivals in the sport
Martin Vaculik in Q1 and Anders Thomsen in Q2
He then won the four-rider sprint race to claim four championship points ahead of Aussie full-time SGP debutant Brady Kurtz
Great Britain’s world No.2 Robert Lambert overhauled Andzejs Lebedevs for third place to take two championship points
with the Latvian claiming one point in fourth spot
But Zmarzlik’s session ended on a sour note after he was deemed by the FIM to have missed the two-minute deadline to line up for starting position selections
meaning he was forced to choose his number last
This handed Kurtz first choice of starting positions after he battled past world No.3 Fredrik Lindgren in Q1 and home hero Kai Huckenbeck in Q2
Despite this being his first SGP appearance in Europe
Kurtz is already second in the Speedway GP World Championship after just one race
But Zmarzlik leads the way on four as he commences his bid to match New Zealand great Ivan Mauger and Swedish legend Tony Rickardsson’s record haul of six FIM Speedway World Championships in 2025
The WWK FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut gets underway at 19:00 CEST

Bartosz Zmarzlik made the perfect start to his quest for a record-equalling sixth FIM Speedway World Championship by delivering a dominant double victory at the WWK FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut as the 2025 season got underway.
The Polish superstar stormed to maximum points on Saturday, winning both the historic new sprint race during Qualifying and the main Speedway GP event later that evening, earning a full haul of 24 championship points.
By the time the chequered flag flew in the night’s Grand Prix final, Zmarzlik had not only secured the event win and taken his 27th SGP career victory, but also moved to the top of the 2025 World Championship standings. He now leads the charge to equal legends Ivan Mauger and Tony Rickardsson with six titles — and remains on track to become the first rider ever to claim four in a row.
Behind him, Dan Bewley claimed second place in what turned out to be a strategic gamble. The Brit opted for start position No.1 – often seen as a disadvantage due to track grading – but made it work by charging through the last-chance qualifier and booking his spot in the final. “The day didn’t start off brilliantly with the Qualifying,” Bewley admitted. “But I scored good points in the heats and took No.1. Nobody likes it, but I believed in myself. It didn’t work out too badly.”
Andzejs Lebedevs made history of his own with a breakthrough third-place finish – his first-ever Speedway GP podium and a huge moment for Latvian speedway. “Step by step, these walls are being broken down,” he said. “This opened up the podium for me and I am so happy. I feel like I have won! I am really happy and satisfied with myself and my team.”
If Landshut is anything to go by, Zmarzlik’s best this year may well be historic.
Uwe Krupp (59), most recently head coach in Lugano from mid-January until the end of March, is taking over EV Landshut in DEL2. Krupp signed for two years plus an option with the second division club from Lower Bavaria.
EV Landshut, a traditional club in Germany, is aiming for promotion back to the DEL in the medium term. In a Facebook video, Uwe Krupp announced that he wanted to help bring the club forward and help it regain more weight in German ice hockey.
As a two-time Stanley Cup winner, Uwe Krupp is one of the most important figures in field hockey in Germany.

Home » Inside BMW’s Gen6 Battery Revolution: A Deep Dive from Landshut
We were given an exclusive opportunity to step inside BMW’s high-voltage battery workshop at Landshut
where engineers and executives shared an in-depth look at the innovations shaping BMW’s next generation of EVs
Even though some of the details were held back for future events
the several technical workshops gave us a glimpse at how BMW intends to redefine electric driving
from energy storage to charging to sustainability
BMW’s Gen6 battery is a dramatic departure from its predecessor, Gen5
While the previous generation relied on prismatic cells housed in individual modules
the new system transitions to cylindrical cells with a 46mm diameter
available in two heights: 95mm and 120mm (4695 and 46120)
The shift from modules to a direct cell-to-pack (CTP) integration allows for greater energy density
The company is also implementing pack-to-open-body integration
meaning that the battery pack itself is a structural element of the car
Unlike conventional designs where the battery is enclosed within a separate housing and then installed in the car
the Neue Klasse models will have an open chassis until the battery is mounted
this design philosophy eliminates unnecessary materials
and enhances their ability to scale battery sizes across different vehicle types
and BMW has addressed this by transitioning from a 400V system to an 800V architecture
The 800V architecture is not new to the industry
A lot of BMW’s direct and indirect competitors are already offering electric vehicles with the more complex system
BMW was not ready to share all the details on what’s coming here are some details confirmed at this stage:
BMW has also integrated a flexible charging system
meaning the Gen6 battery can switch between 800V and 400V charging
This ensures that drivers can take advantage of high-powered ultra-fast chargers while maintaining compatibility with existing networks
What they have not confirmed are the 10-80 percent charging times (we tried getting an answer) and the charging rate. Our own sources, but yet not confirmed by BMW, point to 300 to 400 kW of fast charging and to a new NACS port installed on Neue Klasse vehicles which will give BMW access to the Tesla charging network as well
One of the key enablers of this efficiency is the Energy Master
a sophisticated control unit developed in-house by BMW
Unlike previous systems where various power management components were scattered throughout the vehicle
distributing high and low-voltage energy with greater precision and intelligence
ensuring optimal charging speeds without excessive heat buildup or energy waste
we did try to get some concrete numbers when it comes to thermal management improvements
BMW has designed the Energy Master to be easily replaceable
addressing a major concern in EV maintenance
Whereas Gen5 battery management systems were deeply embedded inside the pack
the Energy Master sits beneath the rear seats
making it far more accessible for servicing and repairs
Range anxiety has been a persistent challenge in EV adoption
and BMW is tackling it head-on with a 30% increase in range compared to Gen5 models
A range of 600 to 900 km on the WLTP cycle
the more stringent EPA standard will bring these numbers a bit
but will still be competitive in today’s market
This isn’t just a result of higher energy density (up 20%)
but also BMW’s pursuit of efficiency gains across the board
Aerodynamics play a crucial role in this improvement
By removing the need for a separate underbody panel
BMW’s new battery-integrated floor design creates a seamless
This reduces drag and contributes to the 20% overall vehicle efficiency increase achieved with Gen6
By eliminating modules and integrating the battery into the structure
further optimizing the vehicle’s weight distribution and dynamics
They are not ready to communicate that either
But perhaps the most impressive achievement is cost reduction
BMW has cut battery production costs by 40-50%
a staggering improvement that will allow the company to price its EVs more competitively
This was achieved through not only a simplified battery design
but also through more efficient production techniques
allowing fewer assembly steps and a high level of standardization
BMW’s Gen6 battery isn’t just for powering the car—it’s also a power source
The Neue Klasse will introduce bidirectional charging
While Munich’s Battery Cell Competence Center (BCCC) focuses on research and cell chemistry development
Landshut is where BMW brings these innovations to life
the company has made significant investments in high-voltage battery production
ensuring that its Gen6 technology is manufactured to the highest quality standards
BMW is also adopting a “local-for-local” strategy
with five new Gen6 battery plants planned across Europe
This approach minimizes CO₂ emissions from transportation
Sustainability is at the core of BMW’s electrification push
with a focus on closing the battery materials loop
The company is actively recovering lithium
and cobalt from end-of-life batteries and reintegrating them into production
reducing reliance on newly mined materials
it became clear that BMW’s Gen6 battery system is more than an incremental upgrade—it’s a complete reinvention of how electric vehicles are designed and built
With higher energy density, faster charging, lower costs, and new levels of structural integration, the Neue Klasse will set a new benchmark for premium EVs. And soon, these billion-dollar investments and countless hours of engineering will materialize into the first Neue Klasse EV: the iX3

Speedway GP Qualifying enters a new era as a brand-new knockout format debuts at the WWK FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut at 14:00 CEST / 13:00 UK time this afternoon
Fans can catch the action with live coverage on Max
HBO Max or discovery+ as riders battle for track time

all 16 riders involved in tonight’s Speedway GP take to the track for free practice (FP1 and FP2)
gets two blocks of two minutes to test their equipment
search for the fastest racing lines and generally get themselves set up for both Qualifying and racing
The new Speedway GP Qualifying session is a knockout competition – just like a grand slam tennis tournament
But there’s a key difference – apart from the roar of 500cc bikes with no brakes
Riders are drawn into pairs by a completely random FIM ballot for Q1.
This could result in an epic showdown between the Speedway GP World Championship’s top two in the first round
Any pair of SGP stars could be matched together for Q1
The draw also determines who each rider will face if they are successful in Q1
showing their path through Qualifying – all the way to the sprint race or Q3
Q1 features eight 60-second duels as each pair of riders takes to the track
The Speedway GP star who clocks the fastest lap of each pair advances to Q2
facing the winner of a pre-determined Q1 tie in another 60-second duel
The winners of the four Q2 duels qualify for the finale to the session
the four Q2 winners compete for Speedway GP World Championship points in a sprint race – a standard four-lap SGP race
The winner instantly earns FOUR Speedway GP World Championship points
two for third and one for taking fourth place.
the sprint race winner is handed first choice of starting positions for the evening’s Speedway GP – allowing them to ensure they can start from the best gates at the best possible time
Two good jumps from the best starting position could help the sport’s top riders fight their way into the final
the one who retired or was disqualified first is placed lowest
With riders able to score up to 20 Speedway GP World Championship points across five SGP sprint races this season
success in Qualifying could make all the difference to a rider’s title chances
There will be no sprint races at any of the Speedway GP events
June 14 will not feature a Qualifying session at all
With SGP2 racing taking place ahead of the rounds in Malilla
Riga and Vojens and SGP3 being staged in Prague
the Qualifying sessions at these four venues will all culminate in Q3
All SGP2 Qualifying sessions also follow this format
This sees all four Q2 winners take to the track at the same time for a 60-second timed shootout
The rider who clocks the fastest lap time will not earn Speedway GP World Championship points
but they still secure the all-important first choice of starting positions
Start your Speedway GP race day early and tune into the Qualifying action from 14:00 CEST / 13:00 UK as the world’s best riders battle the clock and each other for Speedway GP World Championship points – and the first pick of starting positions

(Luxembourg, 21 November 2024) –Two individuals were convicted yesterday (20 November) by the Landshut Regional Court (Landgericht Landshut) for organised VAT fraud, following an investigation led by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Munich (Germany). Their criminal activities are estimated to have caused a VAT loss of around €3.7 million.
According to the investigation carried out by the Tax Investigation Office in Berlin (Steuerfahndung Berlin), the defendants acted as strawmen for a buffer company, taking part in a cross-border VAT carousel fraud – a complex criminal scheme that takes advantage of EU rules on cross-border transactions between its Member States, as these are exempt from value-added tax – trading with small electronic goods.
Both of the defendants had been arrested last year: one in Slovenia in July by the Police Directorate Murska Sobota (Policijska uprava Murska Sobota) and the other one shortly afterwards in Czechia by the Czech Police (Policie České republiky) based on the information provided by the first arrested defendant.
The court convicted both defendants of organised VAT fraud. One of them was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and the other defendant received a suspended prison sentence of one year and six months.
The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
Pre-series production of electric motor housings for the New Class started
BMW Group Plant Landshut has launched pre-series production of the central housing for the electric drive motor of the New Class , together with Dr. Joachim Post, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Purchasing and Supplier Network, and Dr. Florian Herrmann, Minister of State and Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery.
Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery: “To achieve the climate targets, we need change, progress and openness to technology. This is at the core of Bavarian innovation policy and part of the BMW Group's company DNA. This ensures jobs and technological competitiveness.”
“The Landshut plant is once again demonstrating its innovative strength and playing an important role in the New Class,” emphasized Dr. Joachim Post, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Purchasing and Supplier Network. ”By investing in this completely new production hall for the electric motor housing, we are underlining our clear commitment to Germany as an industrial location.”
The sixth generation of electric drive in the New Class vehicles will achieve up to 30 percent more range and 30 percent shorter charging times, as well as 30 percent greater efficiency compared to the current generation of vehicles.
The center housing for the electric drive motor is a key cast component of the electric drive system. It houses the core components of the electric motor: the rotor, stator, gearbox and inverter, which are manufactured at BMW Group Steyr and compactly installed in the Landshut housing.
Outlook for the New Class The all-electric New Class will start production at the end of 2025, initially with an X model at the Debrecen plant in Hungary. The Munich plant will follow shortly afterwards with the sporty sedan. The high-voltage batteries for the New Class vehicles produced in the Bavarian plants of the BMW Group will in future be manufactured at the Irlbach-Straßkirchen site in Lower Bavaria.

Five-time Speedway GP world champion Zmarzlik, who is bidding to become only the third rider in history to win a sixth gold medal, stormed to victory in the sprint race in Qualifying during the afternoon.
This earned him four Speedway GP World Championship points
and he added another 20 by winning the evening’s SGP event in Bavaria
beating second-placed Great Britain racer Dan Bewley
who finished third to claim his first-ever SGP podium
It was also a memorable night for Australian star Brady Kurtz as the full-time Speedway GP debutant finished fourth on only his third SGP appearance and his first on a European track
But the night belonged to now 27-time SGP winner Zmarzlik – a man bidding to become the first rider to win four Speedway GP World Championships in a row and an incredible six in seven seasons
Zmarzlik suffered a setback after Qualifying when he was deemed to have missed the two-minute deadline to line up for start position selections
Despite winning the right to choose first with victory in the sprint race
The Lublin and Lejonen star says this setback only inspired him to deliver a special victory in the evening.
I was a little bit nervous because the situation was not easy for me
But maybe this gave me a little bit of power and extra motivation for tonight
“I am very happy because the night went well
“But I am happy that for the first time in my career I won the sprint
“I want to say thank you to all of the fans – everyone made a great night for us riders and I think the fans had a good night too.”
Next up for Zmarzlik and his Speedway GP rivals is the Orlen Oil FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw on May 17
with a circa 50,000-strong crowd expected at the iconic PGE Narodowy
While Zmarzlik would love to become the first Polish winner of the world’s biggest speedway event
he is determined to treat it with the same focus as any other round
“I will go into every meeting like I always do
It doesn’t matter where we go; I always want to do a good job
Second-placed Bewley took the gamble of selecting No.1 when he chose his starting positions
meaning he was in action after every track maintenance break.
This can make it challenging for riders to find the right bike setup after a period of grading and watering
But Bewley made it into the last-chance qualifiers
taking victory to earn his place in the final
He said: “The day didn’t start off brilliantly with the Qualifying
I made some changes towards the end of the night.
but I looked at it today and believed in myself
everyone supporting me - my sponsors and all my fans
Third-placed Lebedevs admits he has broken another barrier in the sport after Latvia’s first and only Speedway GP rider achieved his first top three finish
This opened up the podium for me and I am so happy
I am really happy and satisfied with myself and my team
I had a good gate choice for the last-chance qualifier
I focused for that and won this last-chance heat
made the final and now my first podium has come.”
Tickets for the Orlen Oil FIM Speedway GP of Poland - Warsaw are still available online. Secure your spot at PGE Narodowy on May 17 HERE now
Bartosz Zmarzlik made the perfect start to the defence of his Speedway Grand Prix title as he won the opening round in Landshut ahead of Dan Bewley
the BMW Group provided initial insights into the development and production of the 6th generation high-voltage battery and electric drive for the Neue Klasse
Series production of the Gen6 drives will start at the Steyr plant in Upper Austria in summer 2025
Pre-series production of the drives has been underway since September 2024. The pre-series motors are being intensively tested and some of them are already being used in the Neue Klasse test vehicles from the Debrecen plant. Series production of the next iX3
the first series based on BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ vehicle family
Although BMW had already developed highly efficient motors with the so-called fifth generation of its electric drives
which are used in the current model series from the iX1 to the i7
the Munich-based company is now talking about a ‘technological leap forward’ – not only with the drive systems
Let’s first take a look at the electric drives of the ‘Gen6’
BMW is sticking to the concept of the SSM – the current-excited synchronous machine
The magnetic field in the rotor is not generated by permanent magnets
but by a winding energised with direct current
the magnetic field in the rotor is generated by windings fed with direct current rather than permanent magnets
the strength of the rotor’s magnetic field can be optimally adjusted to the prevailing load conditions
This results in both excellent levels of efficiency at customer-relevant operating points and constant power output at high rotational speeds,” writes BMW
the SSM has been further developed in order to be optimised for the new 800-volt architecture
the oil and water cooling systems have also been completely redesigned and the housing is lighter yet more rigid
While the ‘Gen5’ relied exclusively on this SSM in different variants
only the drive units on the rear axle will work according to this principle in the Neue Klasse
which also have a second electric motor on the front axle
a different technology will be used in future
BMW will use an asynchronous machine (ASM)
in which the magnetic field of the rotor is generated by induction through the stator
BMW only lists the advantages of this technology: ASMs are generally smaller and cheaper
BMW does not mention the usual disadvantages
such as higher consumption due to poorer efficiency in the partial load range
but later switched to PSMs with permanent magnets in the rotor due to their consumption
So it will be exciting to see what consumption BMW can achieve on the road
BMW nevertheless anticipates noticeable improvements ‘through the intelligent use of new technologies in e-drive and the consistent further development of existing systems’
When comparing one of the future all-wheel-drive models of the new class with SSM at the rear and ASM at the front with an xDrive model of the ‘Gen5’
energy losses are to be reduced by 40 per cent
costs cut by 20 per cent and weight reduced by ten per cent
the overall vehicle efficiency in the Neue Klasse is set to increase by 20 per cent
which will have to coordinate up to four motors in the future
including the inverter developed in-house with silicon carbide semiconductors
are produced in Steyr and distributed to the plants
BMW is pursuing a different strategy for battery production
It is to be placed ‘local for local’ close to its vehicle plants
such a battery assembly plant is being built for the German plants in Irlbach-Straßkirchen (Lower Bavaria); other locations are close to the vehicle plants in Debrecen (Hungary)
San Luis Potosí (Mexico) and Woodruff near Spartanburg in the USA
‘The “local for local” principle continues in the supplier network for battery cells,’ says BMW
the BMW Group has contractually agreed five battery cell factories – spread across Europe
China and the USA – with various partners.’
But the battery in the ‘Gen6’ is also fundamentally new: as has long been known
BMW is switching from a 400-volt architecture to 800 volts system voltage and from prismatic cells to large-volume round cells with a diameter of 46 millimetres
The round cell alone is said to offer a 20 per cent higher energy density than the previous prismatic cells
The new battery pack dispenses with modules and also takes on the role of a structural component in the bodies of the Neue Klasse vehicles (‘pack-to-open-body’)
This also ensures that more cells can be accommodated in the same installation space
thus increasing the energy density at the pack level
BMW also claims a 30 per cent higher charging speed and a 30 per cent greater range – “with certain models achieving even higher figures”
The ‘BMW Energy Master’ will also be an important component in the new electric drive generation
This is a kind of energy control centre which
acts as an interface for the high-voltage and low-voltage power supply as well as for the data from the high-voltage battery
the Energy Master ensures ‘safe and intelligent operation of the high-voltage battery’ and thus its durability
In addition to the power requirements of the low-voltage applications
it also controls the power supply to the electric motors
it talks to the ‘Heart of Joy’ drive computer
Both the hardware and the software of the Energy Master were developed entirely in-house at the BMW Group
BMW also wants to be able to implement technological developments and updates for the vehicles ‘independently and in real time’ by means of remote software upgrades
The ‘BMW Energy Master’ is manufactured in Landshut and pre-series production is currently underway
Series production is scheduled to start in August
around 200 people will be employed in the production area of the Energy Master in Landshut
electric mobility is the future and a key area of growth
We are leading the way with this drivetrain technology
we are deliberately taking a technology-open approach
recognizing that mobility needs vary between different regions of the world,” explained Joachim Post
BMW Board Member for Purchasing and Supplier Network
“We want to offer our customers the best drive concept for every need
It is possible to do both: offer the best drive technology for every need and be at the forefront of electric mobility.”

A delegation of USC Upstate faculty and staff
visited the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) Landshut in Germany in January to explore additional exchange opportunities between the two universities
USC Upstate and UAS Landshut have offered a dual degree program for business and science students since 2012
Upstate students study on the Spartanburg campus for three years
then travel to Landshut to complete their final year there
Students also intern with a global company and learn German as part of the program
they receive diplomas from both universities
More than 150 students have taken part in the program since its inception
Now the schools plan to add more majors to the dual degree
and also offer a semester exchange option for students just interested in a study abroad experience
Short-term summer trips for students on both campuses are also planned
“USC Upstate is proud to work with our partners at UAS Landshut to offer our students additional avenues for developing the skills they need to support and contribute to the global economic ecosystem in our respective regions,” says Harris
“Both our campuses understand the importance of our students having a global mindset
and we are always looking for ways to expand our relationships with international companies.”
Programs that will be added to the dual degree include cybersecurity
business analytics and international affairs
director of global engagement and assistant professor of German at Upstate
Expanding the exchange will also provide more opportunities for students to collaborate and publish research
Upstate and Landshut hope to sign an expanded exchange agreement in March and begin new programming this fall
Lorenz says the dual degree program positively impacts students’ career prospects
“This exposure makes them attractive candidates for the job market here in the Upstate South Carolina region
which is home to more than 500 global companies
of which 125 are headquartered in Germany,” he notes
with Upstate professors traveling to Landshut in the summer to teach there
Lorenz says this has led to research and grant collaborations between the two campuses
Growing the partnership fits well with the mission of both institutions
“Upstate and Landshut are focused on serving the community and local industry partners
and many of the companies in the Munich area have sister companies here in the Upstate region,” Lorenz says
the USC Upstate delegation also visited BMW
all of which have manufacturing facilities in the Upstate region
The visits spurred conversations on how to create additional internship opportunities in South Carolina for Upstate students and expand the university’s academic programs to meet the workforce needs of the Upstate

Despite the challenges presented by the ongoing war in Ukraine
two luthier parties have found a way to cooperate between Landshut
Stanislav and Irina Yaroshenko are a husband and wife luthier couple based in Dnipro
a city that straddles the Dnipro River in the east of Ukraine
Both studied music: Stanislav is a violin graduate of the Glinka Academy of Music in Dnipro
while Irina studied viola at the University of Arts in Kharkiv and has taught viola
violin and music theory at the Glinka Academy of Music for over ten years
and from 2017, the couple have focused their efforts on violin making
with Stanislav completing a violin on 23 February 2022 - the day before the Russian invasion on Ukraine
Since the outbreak of war earlier in the year

Germany had been using its Instagram account to refer Ukrainian refugees arriving in the area to addresses offering humanitarian aid
played an active part in accompanying Ukrainian refugees to aid offices
The Yaroshenkos contacted Laufer & Klein on Instagram
looking for new ways of cooperation and collaboration as existing opportunities to sell their violins disappeared after the onset of war
Admiring the ’precise but expressive style’ of their violins, Marius Laufer and Christian Klein
decided to help and proposed to try to sell one of Stanislav and Irina’s instruments in Germany on their behalf
despite the fact that they had no prior experience doing such business between Germany and Ukraine
with increasing legal and logistical obstacles emerging constantly
The two parties agreed that Stanislav’s violin - completed on 23 February - would be sent 2130km from Dnipro to Landshut via post
’We don’t know what will happen in the next few weeks,’ said Stanislav
Justifying his choice to send the instruments by post
’We’d rather take the risk of unsafe shipping and the chance that the violin will arrive in Germany and find a new player than to think about having to leave the instruments behind and perhaps being destroyed.’
The Yaroshenkos sent the violin by Ukranian post on 2 May 2022
The journey took almost one month - 26 days - to reach its destination in Landshut
The violin encountered no shortage of barriers on its journey: a bomb hit a railway bridge near the postal distribution centre in Kyiv on 4 May
the violin arrived at the Laufer & Klein studio on 28 May and sold shortly afterwards
Balzer-Riesen believes that the common goal between the parties is to build up a long-term cooperation and to display Irina’s and Stanislav’s instruments regularly in the Laufer & Klein studio
Plans are underway to help the Yaroshenkos showcase their instruments beyond Ukraine; two more violins have arrived at the studio from the couple

BMW will invest 200 million euros in its component plant in Landshut
production of the central housing for the electric drive unit of the Neue Klasse will be carried out there
BMW will build a new production to house component production for the Neue Klasse
It will have three levels and two production lines
The carmaker intends to produce there using the so-called “Injector Casting” process
“Injector casting ensures that parts are cast with optimum mechanical properties
It has the additional effect of shortening the cycle time and
reducing energy consumption considerably while also cutting carbon emissions due to the lower casting temperature
This method results in reduced consumption of resources too as it requires less return material,” the manufacturer explains
the two new production lines will increase the annual production capacity for the fifth and sixth-generation aluminium housings by around 30 per cent
the fifth generation of BMW electric drives
which are used in current model series such as the iX3
The upcoming sixth generation is planned for the Neue Klasse vehicles from 2025
As the current series mentioned will continue to be produced in parallel
BMW will also offer EVs with the fifth and sixth generation of drive systems at the same time – and will thus require drive housings from Landshut
the functional principle of the BMW electric motors will remain the same: the Munich-based company will continue to use separately excited synchronous machines in which both the stator and the rotor consist of electromagnets
combine the advantages of permanently excited synchronous motors (efficiency
power density) with those of asynchronous motors (no resistance when idling
without the disadvantages of PSM (raw material procurement of rare earths such as neodymium in the permanent magnets)
the sixth generation has been further developed in detail
The current investment of 200 million euros brings BMW’s total investment in its largest component plant to around one billion euros since 2020
has gone towards the expansion of EV-related production
“We are continuously expanding our site’s expertise in both the production of our cutting-edge components and the development of new technologies,” says Thomas Thym
“This skill set provides us with the flexibility we are going to need in the future.” Manufacturing the central housing for the sixth-generation drive technology in the Neue Klasse represents a further step in the plant’s transformation to electric mobility
the new production hall for the electric drive housings will be built on the existing site
BMW acquired a plot of land of around 30,000 square metres directly adjacent to the Landshut plant
intended for further future production volumes but not for the current project
“This strategic acquisition is a key element in the plant’s ability to respond to future demand
A final decision on how exactly the new land is to be used will be made at a later date,” says BMW
the round cells supplied will be used to build the ready-to-install battery packs for the Neue Klasse
which will then be delivered to the Bavarian BMW vehicle plants in Dingolfing

But now officials want to take the plane apart
transport the pieces to Germany and restore it at the Dornier Museum
The Landshut became famous in 1977's German Autumn: the weeks during which the country was shaken by several terrorist acts committed by the Red Army Faction and allied groups

The hijackers issued an ultimatum for the RAF prisoners to be released and poured the duty-free spirits over the hostages
so West German officials pretended to give in
shot three of the four hijackers and saved all remaining hostages
