the industrial union IG Metall said in a statement
management informed the workforce that the plant in Leinfelden-Echterdingen (in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg) and the plant in Sebnitz in Saxony would be closed by the end of 2026

adding that the plant's capacity utilization has decreased significantly
the chairwoman of the Bosch Power Tools Leinfelden works council
said that “the management's desire to close the plant by the end of 2026 is an insult to the workers”
The move was also criticized by the IG Metall trade union
“We are ready to fight and also to offer alternative proposals“
Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung indicated that due to the difficult market situation
the company is planning further job cuts in individual companies
Bosch will have 417,900 employees worldwide (11,500 fewer than the previous year)
the number of employees has decreased by 4,400 to 129,800 (minus 3.3%)

A medieval game of cards where Leafs and Hearts appear to be showing and chips or coins are in play
«We know very little about the games played with the early European playing cards featured in the exhibition The World in Play: Luxury Cards, 1430–1540
In the late Middle Ages and early modern times
card playing was widely enjoyed by all levels of society
perhaps because it was more challenging than dice and other games of pure chance yet less cerebral than chess
The cards themselves are not a game but the means for one
and the games played at the time are as varied as those who played them
This was particularly true before decks were standardized; without uniform decks there could be no codified games that all could play
Workshop of Bonifacio Bembo (Italian, Cremonese, active ca. 1442–died before 1482). World, from The Visconti Tarot (detail)
Paper (pasteboard) with opaque paint on tooled gold ground; 7 3/8 x 3 1/2 in
Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library
Sermons and treatises condemning card games make it clear that usually gambling was involved
which authorities felt all too often resulted in violence and penury
such as tarot in Italy and Karnöffel in Germany
Other games had trump cards based on social ranks
and gold; the d'Este arms are hand drawn in pen and ink on the 2 of every suit; each card: 4 1/8 x 2 3/8 in
and the manner in which they are randomly dealt out is the mix with which each player must contend
Within the framework of rules and through imaginative thought and strategy
the cards in hand can be parleyed into success—or not
The random conditions presented by a hand of cards could be likened to the circumstances one is born into
a game of cards has a distinct advantage: if you don't like the hand you were dealt
the playing out of a hand of cards is a microcosmic reflection of the ever-changing world around us—a world in play
The artists who created these cards seem to have shared this view

Nearly 12 million people tuned in for the season premiere of “Duck Dynasty” on A&E this summer
making it the most-watched nonfiction series telecast in cable history
but it also reveres another cultural icon — the beard
Through four seasons of watching the Robertson men hunt
blow things up and gather around the family dinner table
viewers have also seen the men’s stubble grow to unruly forests of fur
Their beards often become part of the plotlines
and the show’s popularity means anyone out in public with a full beard could be mistaken for a member of the family Robertson
Other shows have also jumped on the beard bandwagon
most notably IFC’s “Whisker Wars,” a reality TV spot that follows the international sport of bearding
travel from town to town competing against other facial hair farmers for coveted titles and a chance to battle it out — beard style — at the annual World Beard & Mustache Championships
The High Country has also embraced another trend: No-Shave November
a month-long homage to hair that raises awareness and funds for cancer research
The fundraising campaign started November 2009 on Facebook with fewer than 50 participants and has grown to include thousands of people across the globe
So what’s with this fascination with the five o’clock shadow
you have to understand a little bit of their history
Men in ancient Egypt started shaving their faces as far back as 3,000 B.C.
the upper echelons would don decorative false beards as a sign of royalty
philosopher and teacher Socrates and other intellectuals of his time wore beards as symbols of wisdom
The Catholic Church has notoriously had trouble making up its mind about beards
According to “Beards: An archaeological and historical overview,” an academic paper by Marion Dowd
“At different times in the Church’s history
beardlessness was seen to reflect a celibate life
the devil and evil,” but “by the ninth century
Catholic priests wore beards while the Greek Church remained clean-shaven
“Military leaders throughout time have made the trimming of beards and hair obligatory for soldiers for reasons of hygiene
as well as for military prowess.” Emperor Francis Joseph
adhered to the military trend in the late 1800s with some awesome
temple-to-jaw sideburns possibly modeled after the namesake Civil War-era chops made famous by Maj
No matter the inspiration or moral motivation
carefully cultivated chin growth moved from necessity to fashion to art recently with the advent of worldwide bearding competitions
the annual finale of which is the World Beard & Mustache Championships
The World Championships might draw the crème de la crème of beards and wacky freestyle facial topiaries
but those growing out their cheek fuzz don’t have to travel to Germany to find some friendly bearding competition
local beards are put to the test during Mustache March
with heated contests cropping up all over the county
said a little bit of everything walks through their door in the form of facial hair
we have a lot of guys who grow their beards all winter and then do something silly for the competitions around town,” she said
we have the standard grizzly mountain man beard
They grow it for three months and then come in to have the crazies taken care of.”
beards provide protection from wind and sun
a repository for snow from powder day face shots and even just an excuse to not buy a razor
“Some people like it low on the cheeks or the jaw line,” Sublett said
and we’ll clean up their cheek lines and around their mouths so they aren’t tickling the ladies.”
Sublett said she has a couple of clients who just come in for beard trims
but most of the trimming comes complimentary with a haircut
Beard maintenance can be as simple as putting a guard on a pair of clippers and taking it all down a hair or as complex as hand fades
“I think there’s that kind of mountain man persona that most men here like to adopt,” Sublett said
“They pretend that they don’t care and it gets to a point that they start to care; it’s the same thing when it comes to barbering.”
Despite differences in style and function from decade to decade and place to place
the beard has lived on in one way or another throughout history and around the world
beautiful beard and the men who maintain the trend — happy bearding

APPLE VALLEY • Nobody knows exactly when and where the current beard and mustache trend began
but one handlebar mustache wearer from Apple Valley is nose deep in the mix
a member of the Gentleman's Beard and Mustache Coalition and the Orange County Chapter of Beard Team USA
plans on entering his mustache into a global competition in the fall
is working to raise funds toward his journey to Leinfelden-Echterdingen
to compete in the 2013 World Beard and Mustache Championships as he represents the United States on Nov
"My mustache is a labor of love and a burden at the same time," said Adam Alvarado
a bartender at Buffalo Wild Wings in Apple Valley who has also tended bar at the Coachella and Wagon Wheel music festivals
"My mustache keeps me from eating all my favorite manly foods like burgers and ribs
With a fiery red beard that would make any lawn gnome or dwarf from Middle-earth jealous
will be joining Adam Alvarado as they leave for Europe on Oct
who lives in Santa Ana and is the general manager of Salon Gregorie's in Newport Beach
"These guys are serious about their facial hair," said Adam Alvarado's sister
a freelance photographer who contributes to the Daily Press
"And I have to admit that my brother spends more time grooming his 'stache than I do on my own hair."
Adam Alvarado said he's always had a mustache
but shed his beard and began waxing and oiling his mustache and using "hair and nail pills" to help his hair grow once he decided to compete
Imperial or English-style (categories)," Adam Alvarado said
"Those guys who just let them grow naturally are nuts."
The beard team adheres to William Shakespeare's bearded outlook on life: "He that hath a beard is more than a youth
and he that hath no beard is less than a man."
Alvarado discovered that wax tends to deteriorate the mustache versus oil
which tends to bring the facial hair to life
I decided to check out the mustache and beard group," Alvarado said
but these people were punks and metalheads
said his mustache doesn't do much to attract women
but it has done a great job attracting its share of giggles and finger-pointers
"Chicks seem to like the full-on beard more
they either like it or not," Alvarado said
Alvarado and Jansson are taking online donations for their Germany trip at www.gofundme.com/4ewvs4

He is a 39-year-old web designer from Voorhees
Last month he deservedly won “Best in Show” (yes) at the National Beard Championship (yes) in New Orleans
He and his uniquely round auburn beard — described as “a scraggly rising sun” — will be in Leinfelden-Echterdingen
on Saturday for the World Beard & Moustache Championships
The trip was partly funded by the Philadelphia Beard Club and sponsors
There are some genuinely inspired beards 0n Team USA–but what Langum’s got going for him is the au naturel factor. He will be competing in the “Full Beard: Natural” category, in which “aids” are not allowed. Does that include beard oil

In the bleakest of sports years, Philadelphia has a new world champion
Jeff Langum and his 17-inch beard won at the World Beard and Moustache Championship in Leinfelden-Echterdingen
The 39-year-old Philadelphia native and Voorhees
resident — who last shaved 25 months ago for a friend's wedding — has watched his round
auburn beard become a national force in the facial hair landscape
winning "Best in Show" at the National Beard Championship in September and a $1,000 prize
hirsute hero didn't know his whiskers could conquer the world
and you want to win," Langum told the Courier-Post last week
and I'm back to drinking and hanging with friends."
Categories at a beard competition are as diverse and odd as the contestants they attract
In "full beard natural," a category in which beards are known to hang lower than shirts
Langum's winning beard is considered only of modest length
despite measuring nearly 18 inches from his bottom lip to the end of his longest whisker
described by some as a "scraggly rising sun," is what makes it stand out
a Philadelphia physician who also traveled to Germany
"Most beards grow long and not as much on the sides
Langum didn't know he would ever be capable of producing any facial hair
and his dad couldn't grow a beard," recalled Langum
who was awarded a trophy but no cash prize for his world title
And though Langum cleans up at most local beard competitions now
it took him seven appearances before even placing at one
Langum said he has no plans on shaving again
instead wanting his beard to reach its "terminal length."
More than 300 competitors from over 20 countries vied for a trophy in 18 different categories, reaching far beyond Freddie Mercury style 'taches to include beards of nearly all shapes and sizes, from “Imperial Moustache” to “Musketeer Goatee” and the “Garibaldi Beard”
Rules are very specific, including which style of bears can be groomed using products.
2013 marked the first year in which no overall winner was crowned, with organisers saying that they did not want to say one style of beard was better than another, but rather value each style in its own right.
