After launching Raiz’In, a line of self-designed copies of her own sell-out lockets last year, Marie Lichtenberg is back with a second drop
the Parisian designer has ripped off her own scapular necklaces
and is donating a portion of the profits to Make-A-Wish Foundation
the new pieces are designed in the house’s characteristic style
The lockets and scapular necklaces in the main collection start at $3,400; part of the impetus for the line was allowing more of the brand’s fans to buy into its products
Resin and natural mother-of-pearl 40mm scapular pendant
Marie Lichtenberg now designs original jewelry
blending influences from around the world with her bold aesthetic
was inspired by a forçat chain given to her by her mother
it triggered a creative process that has become increasingly liberated in the intervening years and the lockets are now exquisitely made jewels that have become highly collectable
available in three different sizes and different glitter and natural mother-of-pearl finishes
Make-A-Wish
the charitable organization that makes dreams come true for sick children around the world
will receive a proportion of the profits from each sale
Since the organization started 20 years ago
it has granted wishes for over 138,960 children suffering from serious illnesses
experiences and days out for children aged between three and 17
to watching their team play and even accessing specialized equipment to help improve their daily life as they live with their illness
Make-A-Wish enables children undergoing gruelling treatment to take time out
experience something they may have never done before
and regain the courage they need to continue
enabling them to better support their child
customers will be helping one more sick child’s wish become reality
the profits of counterfeiting will go towards something other than terrorism.”

some people defend the counterfeiting of luxury goods—an unfortunately common practice
Proponents argue that counterfeiting makes in-demand styles accessible to more people
and they shrug off it as not much loss to the big
billion-dollar companies behind the brands
counterfeiting affects businesses of all sizes—and it does have an unfavorable impact on shoppers
According to the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC)
“The lost sales and profits that result from this unfair competition translate directly into lower wages and lost jobs
as well as higher prices for consumers.”
Parisian jeweler Marie Lichtenberg has taken on counterfeiting by producing more affordable versions her own iconic lockets. Lichtenberg introduced the Raiz’in collection in 2023
after seeing a wave of poor-quality copies on the market
“Raiz’in is a true ‘counterfeit’—studied
Lichtenberg offers jewelry with “the same irreverent style
to beat the counterfeiters at their own game and ensure that more of you could wear our lockets,” according to the brand’s website
“These are no cheap knockoffs,” says the Raiz’in website
“They are made in France using jewelry expertise and retail at €350–€390
reflecting our attention to detail and uncompromising quality—and they’re also a chance for us to give back.” The company will donate a portion of its profits from the Raiz’in collection to Make-A-Wish France
the organization serving critically ill children
“Raiz’in is the opportunity for us to reinvent our classics while making them accessible and useful for a good cause,” Lichtenberg says
counterfeiting will help fund something other than terrorism or drug trafficking.”
The new line of Raiz’in necklaces comes in six different colors, with three different sizes of pendants. See them all here

Germany) discusses the results of the SUCCESS six-month all-comers registry with Vascular News at CIRSE 2024 after the late-breaking results were presented in the First@CIRSE session
The real-world registry evaluated the SELUTION SLR™ PTA drug-eluting balloon (DEB; Cordis) in patients who are regularly seen in routine work
The first report showed that consistent haemodynamic
functional and clinical improvements were observed
associated with a 97.7% freedom from clinically driven target revascularisation (CD-TLR)
in a cohort in which the mean baseline target lesion length was 128mm
the registry included 25.8% of patients with chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI)
and this subgroup was revealed to have a freedom from CD-TLR of 97%
The SELUTION SLR PTA DEB is an 018 platform that works well to treat distal tibial artery disease lesions in CLTI patients
He also emphasises that the technical success of the procedure benefited from no “wash-out phenomenon” or peripheral embolisation of the drug
which can have a detrimental effect on the outcomes for patients
help provide confidence that sirolimus works to treat both CLTI patients and claudicants

Sequential high-speed images have captured how dielectric breakdown manifests in polymethyl methacrylate
The images have led researchers to uncover an entirely new mode of discharge propagation
which they describe as the ‘fastest physical phenomena observed visually in a solid-state material’
Powerful electric fields can cause dielectric materials like polymethyl methacrylate to breakdown and suddenly become conductive
in what is known as an electrostatic discharge event
Such incidents leave behind tree-like damage patterns
(Top) Branch-type Lichtenberg figure channels are opaque and feathery
with a distinct central primary channel and a continuous series of secondary branching channels along their entire length
(Bottom) Ivy-type channels are smooth and translucent
and contain dispersed bursts of secondary branch-type channels perpendicular to the primary ivy-type channel
Previous research and theory lack understanding of how electrostatic discharge occurs in bulk materials
they tend to focus on a type of Lichtenberg figure – branch-type – which are characterised by their feathery and dendritic patterns
researchers in the US have used gigahertz-frame high speed imaging techniques to observe initiation
bulk discharge and cessation steps to better understand how electrostatic discharge moves through polymethyl methacrylate
The study’s images highlighted a new type of Lichtenberg figure
These channels appeared when the team applied larger charges to the polymethyl methacrylate and propagate at 107m/s
an order of magnitude faster than branch-type channels
The researchers note that continuing to study Lichtenberg figure channels will help researchers engineering materials to be less vulnerable to dielectric breakdown

When driving on Main Street in Stroudsburg
you may have noticed a newer addition to Downtown: A painting of an astronaut looking into space on a building across the road from Aaron’s
This mural, titled “Dream It, Work It, Achieve It,” was painted in part by Jody Singer, a local artist, board member of GO Collaborative and director and founder of Origins Gallery
celebrating Stroudsburg-born astronaut Byron Lichtenberg
“That was the inspiration because we thought that was kind of monumental for someone from Stroudsburg
and going up into outer space and all that,” he said
Singer said the mural’s name was a message for all students within the local area who are working “to do those very things,” as well as to dream big
strive to go to new places and help society
“But the message is transcendent to everyone,” he said
“We can start that at any moment in our life
so that’s why we chose to have something like this as an inspiration to everyone who views it
The process for the painting started in February with talks between GO Collaborative and Stroudsburg Borough over possible mural locations
Singer had his eye on the location for 20-something years because he drove past it every day
he asked the owner if it would be OK to paint on it
Singer initially had many different ideas for the mural
including local icons like bald eagles and “the elusive cougar that nobody seems to see
but we don’t,” as well as an enlarged abstract drawing
He added that the borough was more looking for a historical tie-in to the mural
noting he graduated from Stroudsburg High School
After getting approval from the borough and the building owners
and he was honored to “have such a thing in our town.”
“We had different artists work on this so this was somewhat of a community effort,” said fellow mural contributor Thomas Dillon
Singer and Dillon got assistance from local volunteers
with Dillon adding that it was a collaboration
Singer added that it was “what GO Collaborative does
we try to bring people through the arts and business and getting people to do things.”
Singer added that another reason they chose the location they did was to add to the “greater mural landscape” in the Downtown Stroudsburg area
“We want people to walk around,” said Singer
“We want you to discover places and businesses and little areas that might be fun to be at
We’re in the business of creative placemaking now
Downtown Stroudsburg is on the threshold of a revitalization and this is part of that.”
and we don’t even have to speak the same language
we can actually visually see something,” said Dillon
“Putting murals in the town is a great way to actually accomplish that.”
Singer and GO Collaborative plan to add more murals around Stroudsburg
“And the murals themselves connect with the community,” said Dillon
but just the void of how big it is and how much they liked it
So it’s really a good way to connect with the community
and it’s a good way to take our talents and share that
they try to get a promise from the building owner that they’ll keep them up for at least 10 years
but Singer acknowledged that they are in effect temporary art
“We will try to come back and fix it as it goes.” Singer added that each mural has been sealed with a protective coating
“One of the nice things about these murals is
it actually helps put us on the map in a way that’s really fun
Singer and Dillon added that GO Collaborative is always looking for artists
They are also open to hearing ideas for adding to the artistic landscape of the downtown area

Lichtenberg devised the WALLET (Wealth Accumulations & Later-life Losses in Early cognitive Transitions) study
WALLET takes the unique approach of analyzing a year’s worth of participants’ checking account statements for signs of excess spending and other anomalies
Results from the study’s 150 participants offer important clues about the intersection of financial risk and early memory loss
with about half having perceived or mild cognitive impairment
All were interviewed on health status and assessed for memory function
financial decision-making and financial literacy
Excess spending was determined by subtracting budgeted expenditures from income
with negative amounts receiving a percentage score
Lichtenberg and his team hypothesized that three factors would be significantly associated with excess spending: early memory loss
as well as scores on two scales created by Lichtenberg
the Financial Decision Rating Scale and the Financial Vulnerability Index
Early memory loss was a predictor of excess spending
The association between early memory loss and excess spending was accounted for by scores on the Financial Decision Rating Scale and the Financial Vulnerability Index
“Financial capacity is multidimensional,” Lichtenberg said
“The WALLET study demonstrates the important links between cognitive status
other financial abilities and excess spending.”
Lichtenberg is particularly pleased with the study’s successful use of financial data from actual bank statements
“Discussion of finances is often considered taboo,” he said
his team was able to sensitively acquire copies of participant bank statements – even during the isolating years of COVID-19
“Establishing trust with each participant was paramount to reviewing this data,” he said
“Our results show the viability of this approach
and especially how financial decision-making and management can impact wealth loss.” Lichtenberg will present results of the WALLET study at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference in Philadelphia on July 31
This work was supported by the National Institutes of Health P30 AG015281

The study’s principal investigator highlighted procedural and technical success rates of 97.5% and a 24-month primary patency rate of 77.9% among other key findings
postmarket observational investigation designed to evaluate the outcomes of Aspirex in patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the pelvis
The study has enrolled patients at nine centres across the European Union
with follow-up already conducted for post-index procedure (discharge) and at one
Lichtenberg shared 24-month follow-up data and noted that 36-month follow-up is also planned
The presenter noted that patients over the age of 18 with acute thrombotic or thromboembolic occlusion (defined as the onset of pain within 14 days) and who signed a written informed consent form were included in the study
Key exclusion criteria included unsuitability for thrombectomy and known
pre-existing mechanical damage to the vessel wall caused by surgical procedures or interventional complications
Lichtenberg shared with the LINC audience that 81 patients were enrolled in the study
with 50.6% and 49.4% of the patients being male and female
Lichtenberg detailed that 80 (98.8%) patients completed one-month follow-up
Lichtenberg provided some details on the medical history of the patients enrolled in the trial
11/81 (13.6%) were on systemic contraceptives
and 3/81 (3.7%) were undergoing cortisone therapy
The presenter also detailed the key lesion characteristics of the 81 patients enrolled in the study
with a majority (70.4%) of the vessels occluded being veins
and the most common thrombus location being the external iliac vein (74.1%)
Procedural success in the P-MAX study was defined as intervention with Aspirex
being sufficient to remove the thrombus; maintain restored blood flow at least 72 hours post-intervention; avoid critical injuries at access site
route of catheter and target site; and be absent of acute distal embolism respective of pulmonary embolism
This was achieved in 79/81 (97.5%) patients
Technical success was defined as a successful thrombectomy
which was achieved in 79/81 (97.5%) patients
Primary patency was defined as freedom from reintervention
which was achieved in 79/80 (98.8%) patients at discharge
Safety was defined as serious adverse events (SAE) rate
procedure-related adverse events (AE) rate
and serious adverse device events (SADE) rate at one
Lichtenberg relayed that the SAE rate results were 27/81 (33.3%)
The corresponding figures for AE rate were 11/80 (13.8%)
and 11/66 (16.7%) and for SADE rate were 2/80 (2.5%)
the presenter reported that Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS)
Venous Disability Score (VDS) and Clinical-Etiology-Anatomic-Pathophysiologic Score (CEAP) all improved from baseline—an improvement that he shared was sustained out to 24-month follow-up
Speaking to Venous News following his presentation at LINC 2024
Lichtenberg commented: “Based on the very positive data from this study as well as others for mechanical thrombectomy
Mechanical thrombectomy for iliofemoral DVT is safe and effective.”

After a chance find of a vintage snap hook in a market in Tokyo, two friends—Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga—transformed the item into jewelry and started their brand Eéra. The Milan-based duo took the minimal original design and morphed it into pavé diamond-encrusted links for bracelets or fluorescent dangles on earrings.

Maga circe 18-karat gold & sterling silver Dimitri bracelet
Paris-born Catherine Sarr’s fine jewelry brand Almasika is inspired in part by the body’s soft curves and flowing lines. The collection is full of undulating timeless gold and diamond pieces that defy trends.

David Farrugia designs conceptual, modern pieces that fuse precious gemstones with unique shapes like hand-carved ram and hippo skulls from Siberian artisans. His distinctive style is characterized by the integration of pavé links and champagne diamonds. Farrugia's innovative perspective breathes new life into fine jewelry, making each piece feel like investment art.

“Our wholehearted paternal sympathy goes out to those who must pay so dearly for their loyalty to Christ and the Church; but directly the highest interests are at stake
We give voice to our opinions freely and many of us enjoy raucous debate
as can be seen on most American blog sites
We are fortunate to live in a free society where there is no penalty for expressing ourselves
But what if we did not live in a free society
What if we lived in a vicious dictatorship where dissent is a one way trip to a concentration camp and then to an unmarked grave
How many of us would then have the courage to speak out
especially if almost everyone else were keeping their heads down and not saying anything
For many people throughout history this has not been a game of “what if.”
Born in Ohlau in the province of Silesia in Germany on December 3
Bernard Lichtenberg studied theology at the seminary in Innsbruck
becoming the parish priest of the Sacred Heart parish in the Berlin suburb of Charlottenburg in 1913
he laid the foundations for five parishes and a monastery in Berlin
Somehow he also found the time to be active in the Catholic Centre Party
and was for a time a member of the Berlin regional parliament after World War I
He also carried out missionary and charitable works among the poor of Berlin
He was made a canon of the Cathedral Chapter by the first Bishop of the newly created diocese of Berlin, Christian Schreiber, in 1931. In 1932 he became pastor of Saint Hedwig’s Cathedral in Berlin. He also attracted the ire of the Nazis by his support of the pacifist Peace League of German Catholics, and was denounced by Hitler’s propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels in the Nazi paper Der Angriff
After the Nazis came to power in 1933, Father Lichtenberg attempted unsuccessfully to convince Cardinal Bertram, the president of the German Bishop’s conference, to protest against the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses. In 1935 he protested to Herman Goering against the treatment of the Jews
Goering denied everything and demanded that Lichtenberg be taken into “protective custody” for spreading lies about the German state
In 1937 Father Lichtenberg helped to distribute clandestinely throughout Germany copies of the blistering condemnation of the Nazis by Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge
a Nazi led pogrom throughout Germany against the Jews
he said from the pulpit of Saint Hedwig’s: ‘we know what happened yesterday
That is also a house of God.’ From that time forward
Father Lichtenberg prayed publicly during evening prayers
for the Jews and Christians of Jewish descent
Father Lichtenberg was also taking other actions which ensured that he was a marked man as far as the Nazis were concerned
He of course was an outspoken critic of the Nazi program of murdering the mentally disabled and made yet another public protest on the issue in August of 1941
Inevitably he was arrested by the Nazis in October of 1941
When the Gestapo searched this house they found a draft of a sermon that he was going to deliver the next Sunday denouncing a pamphlet written by Joseph Goebbels: ‘this pamphlet states that every German who supports Jews with an ostensibly false sentimentality
Let us not be misled by this un-Christian way of thinking but follow the strict command of Jesus Christ: “you shall love your neighbour as … yourself.”
Father Lichtenberg steadfastly stated that he was opposed to the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis because such treatment was opposed to Christian charity
He said that he agreed with Bishop Galen who had denounced the murdering of the mentally handicapped by the Nazis
He summed up his position by stating that Nazism was completely incompatible with the teachings and commands of the Catholic Church
He began with this text which all Catholics should live by although it takes courage to do so: “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” (Mt 10:28)

08:00am EDTShareSaveCommentThe Raiz'In lockets
are resin copies of her bestselling fine jewelry lockets
and donating money to charity at the same time
Raiz’in is a line of lockets created with the same exacting standards as the originals
produced using less expensive materials at a lower price point
polyester cord and hand-strung resin beads
for charm-decked lockets that are every bit as collectable as their hand-enameled big sisters and still made by hand in Europe
The line went live on Friday and by Sunday evening
the first drop of four colorways had sold out
testament to the reach and appeal of one of the most original and exacting contemporary jewelry brands around
A resin locket with an enamel four-leaf clover charm
on a polyester Mauli cord with resin beads
More from the new Raiz'In line by Marie Lichtenberg
Lichtenberg describes the line as “the first original Marie Lichtenberg copy
We wanted it to be as close to our fine jewelry as possible
we will eventually have a resin version of each of our bestsellers.” In the flesh
Lichtenberg’s famously high standards are tangible; the lockets feel weighty and design is considered
Although they are aimed at a younger target
the inherent stackability and addictiveness of the product will undoubtedly see them borrowed by that consumer's hip mom
The move came after her recent success at The Couture Show
the industry-leading jewelry and gem fair in Las Vegas
from which she walked away with the Best in Innovative award for the Magic Ball
a collaboration with Mattel inspired by the classic Magic 8 Ball© toy and executed with her signature stellar engineering
Lichtenberg had the idea for the necklace —a gold and enamel orb housing the same mechanism as the originals
which provides a cryptic ‘answer’ to a question when shaken — over a year ago and left no stone unturned in seeking the toy company’s blessing - which duly came
marking Mattel’s first collaboration with a jewelry brand
the new line from Marie LIchtenberg designed as a push-back to ..
Graceful twists of careful - and technically tricky - enamel and diamonds spiral down candy cane necklaces
and tactile checkerboards of diamonds and rubies glitter on lockets and scapular necklaces
Lichtenberg makes it a point of principle to search out the finest examples of craftsmanship in the world
for her highly engineered and supremely playful jewels
Counterfeiting has plagued Marie Lichtenberg since she started her brand four years ago
“This was the only intelligent response possible,” she tells me
I feel lucky to have had the means to defend myself legally
but it has been both tiresome and galvanizing,” she says of the fakes that sprang up in countries into which her business had not even had a chance to penetrate
contributed to the product’s now-iconic status
A portion of the proceeds from the new line will go to the Rafaël Institute in Paris
the leading European center for integrative medicine
dedicated to supporting patients and their caregivers during and after cancer treatment
“we have been very lucky to have had so much support since the beginning of the brands and have the potential to make a lot of money for good causes
the money from counterfeit goods will go towards something other than terrorism and drug deals.”
The next drop of Raiz’In lockets will be available online at and at Bon Marché department store in Paris

SCOL Project: Geodynamic Regimes During Planetogenesis
Earth was once perceived as a typical planet in a typical planetary system
but the exoplanet revolution renders it an oddball among the rich diversity out there
While the origins of biological evolution for long seemed to be inaccessible to quantitative assessments
recent work has elucidated the first steps from inanimate matter to the emergence of life
These steps can occur in UV-stimulated reservoirs of surface water in a relatively stable atmospheric setting
sulfur- and nitrogen-based chemical compounds
This represents a set of criteria for seeking potential environments in which these steps can operate
our ability to predict conditions at the planetary surface have been insufficient for this task
This is a proposal to extend planetary physics to identify the planet-forming pathways required for the onset of prebiotic chemistry
From the perspective of our best data point
we return to the fundamental questions: Are we a cosmic fluke
Or do physics and chemistry act in concert to converge to Earth-like surface environments
With the recent advances in prebiotic chemistry and the rapid detection and characterization of ever more planets beyond the solar system
we are in a prime position to advance our understanding of how rocky worlds like (and unlike) ours form and evolve
When do formation and evolution create the conditions for abiogenesis
I propose a study of the early dynamical evolution of rocky planets in order to derive the range of possible planetary environments and to set the solar system terrestrial planets in the context of the exoplanetary census
Using recent theoretical tools from the fields of astronomy
I will study the coupled interaction and dynamics of the interior and atmosphere of young rocky planets
I will derive the primary evolutionary archetypes of rocky worlds and the supply and availability of critical volatile molecules for the origins of life in surficial aquatic settings
Assessing the plausibility of origin-of-life theories in the range of possible planetary surface environments will inform prebiotic chemists on the robustness
dynamics and potential chemistry of varying planetary settings
and the physical regimes in which these can operate
These investigations synergize strongly with existing research initiatives within the Simons Collaboration on the Origins of Life and at my proposed host institution
My work will establish crucial links between planetary and atmospheric sciences
astronomy and prebiotic chemistry and will help us to better understand the origin and place of our own world in the galaxy

but it adds a level of responsibility that can weigh someone down
becoming a mom destabilized her in what turned out to be the best way
“Everything flipped in my life in just a period of months,” Lichtenberg says
I decided I might as well change along with them.”
Fatigue from long nights with her babies mixed with restlessness proved the right formula for Lichtenberg
who says her desire to create jewelry arose during this chaotic period
Lichtenberg thought about what she had going for her
she had a fashion background from her work at Parisian magazines—Lichtenberg had been a fashion editor of French Elle for 12 years
she had a strong aesthetic thanks to her mother
who’d owned an antiques store and taught her about jewelry
So Lichtenberg took time to consider what she wanted to do within this new season of her life
you go straight to the point,” Lichtenberg says
Thankfully I had a nice husband who told me to do what I love and that I should express myself.”
mothers and motherhood proved to be the catalyst
Lichtenberg’s mother had given her a favorite piece of jewelry—a chain Creole women wear to represent the cost of freedom
Lichtenberg says she wanted to give her daughter something similar and decided this was the inspiration for what she would do next in her career
Everything came together in 2019 when Lichtenberg went to India, set up her manufacturing relationships, and formally started her brand. One of her first jewelry pieces was the Love You locket, an intricately detailed pendant that took off like a rocket when she posted a photo on Instagram
Marie Lichtenberg was officially in business
I knew I had to do something uniquely me.”
Many people have copied Lichtenberg’s locket designs, which she regards as both a tribute and a challenge. Her response to the imitators was to create a collection called Raiz’in, which replicated her lockets in fashion jewelry form. It debuted this month and has already sold out
Lichtenberg calls Raiz’in a “perfect counterfeit” that maintains her craftsmanship and high standards for jewelry
They come in four colors and still look like a Marie Lichtenberg design
She is donating a portion of the proceeds to the Rafaël Institute
which supports patients and their caregivers during and after cancer treatment
counterfeiting will help to fund a good cause,” Lichtenberg says
