This meeting comes just days after Munna Lohra
expressed his hope of meeting the Chief Minister
Asked if Hemant Soren was aware of their resemblance
but I wish he would invite me and we could have a conversation."

John Hollenhorst reportingDistrict Attorney Lohra Miller
the top law enforcement officer in Salt Lake County
has been under intense surveillance in recent months by a private investigator who is trying to prove she is a liar
The surveillance includes placing GPS tracking devices on her family car
videotaping what appear to be parties at her home
and spying on Miller and her husband outside a bar
Miller appeared to have tears in her eyes when we told her a private investigator had gone so far as to photograph personal items in her household trash
but she refused our request for an interview
The surveillance video shows numerous cars parked far into the night outside Miller's family home
but no overt evidence of underage drinking on two occasions in December and January
There is even video of Miller and her husband at a local night spot at a time when there seemed to be a party going on at their home
The video was delivered to us at KSL-TV by a private eye trying to show Lohra Miller as a liar
"We believe that minors are partying inside that house."
District Attorney Miller disputed statements by her neighbors that she tolerated drinking parties by her kids
The attorney general's office looked into it at Miller's request and found no evidence of criminal activity
Gabler's private agent tailed cars leaving the Miller home and saw what he described as erratic
And he found a police report from three years ago
Police were called to intervene when Miller's husband caught her son drinking and punished him by holding him down and cutting his hair
"He drove other kids home who were drinking inside the house
But Miller interprets that incident as evidence of what she won't tolerate from her kids
"My family is like any other American family
we do what we can to help our children overcome the challenges that life presents."
As for the highly unusual surveillance of a public official by a private party
She made public statements that she is held to a higher standard of scrutiny than other people."
Interpretations of the video are in dispute
Miller even says she and her kids were out of town during one of the alleged parties on the video
The private eye won't say who his original client was

SALT LAKE CITY — A veteran prosecutor with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office who was unjustly terminated has filed a $1.7 million claim against District Attorney Lohra Miller
a 35-year prosecutor with the DA's office
and Miller entered a new phase Wednesday when Morgan filed a notice of claim against Miller
Salt Lake County itself and John/Jane Doe(s) who were employed with either the DA's office or the county at the time of Morgan's complaint
Morgan contends Miller had been trying to get rid of him ever since the 2006 election in which both sought the GOP ticket for district attorney
"Miller informed members of the electorate that Mr
Morgan would have no place in her administration if she were elected," Morgan said in court documents
Miller defeated Morgan and went on to be elected as district attorney
Miller "engaged in an ongoing effort to reduce Mr
Morgan's status in the office and remove any prestige and authority" he had
Morgan contends that an informant made false allegations against him
Miller said Morgan leaked key information to Santiago Steven Maese
who at the time was being prosecuted for his role in an escort service
Morgan said he was only friends with Maese and denied leaking information
the Salt Lake County Career Service Council ruled that Morgan had shown bad judgment in his friendship with Maese but had also been denied due process by Miller and was wrongfully terminated
After Morgan returned to the DA's office
he was demoted to a position normally worked by law students
He was later transferred to the civil division of the DA's office
He said in the claim that Miller and her employees made and publicized false statements about him after his reinstatement
The council found that Morgan was not given a job "consistent with his years of experience" and was essentially a waste of taxpayer money at that point
Morgan states in the claim that Miller and her employees "have continued to engage in unlawful retaliatory actions against Mr
Morgan designed to harm his professional reputation as a prosecutor" in spite of the council's finding
Morgan is asking for $850,000 in punitive damages and another $850,000 for general damages including lost wages
extreme humiliation and emotional distress
Morgan said Wednesday that he hopes the case will end cordially between both parties
"My attorney and I look forward to a civil resolution in this case," he said
"It has been brought to her attention
but she has not seen it," Biljanic said
"It would be unfair to ask her to comment on something she has not been briefed on."
Biljanic said the DA's office has 90 days to respond to the claim
but a response is not necessarily required
"If there isn't a response within that 90-day window
it's up to the responder to determine what to do next," he said
Morgan said he will file a lawsuit in federal court "if we can't reach a satisfactory resolution."

He added that confirming the attackers' identities is currently under investigation.

A 39-year-old gangster incarcerated at Tihar jail was stabbed 20 times by two members of a rival faction at the outpatient department (OPD) room in the prison complex
police officers aware of the incident said on Thursday
adding that the victim is currently undergoing treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital
where his condition is said to be serious but stable
The victim had previously attacked the two accused inside Tihar jail sometime in the last two years
(Representational Image) Police identified the victim as Hitesh Bajitpuriya
a murder convict who has been in jail since 2019 and was associated with deceased gangster Neetu Dabhodiya
His assailants were identified as Gaurav Lohra and Gurinder Singh
Deputy commissioner of police (west) Vichitra Veer said following the attack
Lohra and Singh have been booked on attempt to murder charges
are in jail for their involvement in murder and attempt to murder
They have now been booked in a fresh case of attempted murder for attacking Bajitpuriya,” the DCP said
A jail official said the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the OPD room in Tihar
where Bajitpuriya was taken for a routine check-up
The Delhi Prisons have a small hospital in jail no
3 where patients are taken for checkup and treatment
“Bajitpuriya was inside the OPD when the two assailants managed to get inside and stabbed him with knives and handmade blades carved out of metal strips
The victim had an old rivalry with the two accused as they belonged to rival gangs
We found that Bajitpuriya was not accompanied by an officer when the two accused attacked him
A Quick Response Team (QRT) stationed outside the hospital intervened after hearing the victim’s screams and removed the two convicts from the OPD,” said the official
denied allegations that Bajitpuriya was not accompanied by an officer to the OPD
the accused were booked for assaulting Bajatpuriya,” the spokesperson said
A second jail official said that Bajitpuriya
and had fought in jail number 13 around two years ago
following which Bajitpuriya was shifted to jail number 8
while the other two were shifted to jail number 3
Bajitpuriya’s stabbing comes a year after gangster Sunil Baliyan alias Tillu Tajpuriya was stabbed nearly 150 times by four fellow inmates of the same high-security ward of Tihar
the four assailants — members of Tajpuria’s deceased rival Joginder Gogi’s gang
who used improvised shanks in the attack — received instructions for the murder over the phone
SALT LAKE CITY — Democrat Sim Gill ended the Republicans' one-term hold on the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office with his narrow defeat Tuesday of incumbent Lohra Miller in a rematch of the 2006 election
Gill captured 52 percent of the vote to Miller's 44 percent
according the final but unofficial results
Gill said his campaign was a bipartisan effort supported by Democrats and Republicans
We will work together to reach across the aisle," he said
"That is why we are finding the success that we are."
promises a more collaborative District Attorney's Office
He said he intends to work closely with city government and local police departments
"There will be one contact person for each mayor
who did not publicly concede defeat late Tuesday
said she decided to run a positive campaign and accused Gill of "going another direction."
Gill focused on Miller's tenure being mired with difficulties
including a high-profile spat with veteran prosecutor Kent Morgan
as well as the prosecution of David "DJ" Bell and those accused of beating him
Miller defended her decisions in both instances
saying she had to go off of the facts that she had at the time and felt confident in her actions
Miller said she was proud of what she was able to accomplish in her four years in office and stood by her decisions
"I feel good about what I've done," she said
who lost to Miller four years ago by a narrow margin of 4 percent
ran on a platform of restoring the public trust in what he perceived to be a "broken" district attorney's office
He said the headlines "spoke for themselves" when it came to Miller's time in office
Gill said he also plans to expand mental-health courts and work with the Utah Department of Corrections on an inmate re-entry program that he says could save as much as $5 million per year
Miller's office became the subject of two separate investigations by the county's human resources department amid allegations of electioneering and racism
A report by the human resources department said a few employees within Miller's office felt there was "political pressure" to re-elect Miller and said county time and resources were being used to further Miller's cause
Though it was ultimately determined that there was not any proof of such pressure
the negative publicity played a role in the race
Miller was vocal in her belief that Gill leveraged the allegations to his advantage
"Sim has been pretty critical and pretty negative
and has run this race since he lost last time," Miller said
Gill said it was just another demonstration of strife within an office that he said was already struggling with low morale
Gill said his experience as chief prosecutor for Salt Lake City will provide him with the tools to lead the much larger district attorney's office

Sarhula Lohra suffers from tuberculosis (TB) and coughs blood regularly
The 65-year-old who does odd jobs to eke out his livelihood is often helped by neighbours who take him to the nearest health facility located around 15 kilometres from his shanty at Sakhuatar locality in Konka village off McCluskieganj town in the state of Jharkhand
He considers himself lucky to be surviving
His neighbour Muniya Devi (50) passed away recently within three months of contracting the similar ailment
the mere mention of McCluskieganj conjures up images of sprawling bungalows
vast stretches of greenery and forest cover amidst idyllic and serene settings
The town was founded by an Englishman for retired Anglo-Indian government officers looking to spend the autumn of their lives in the lap of nature
it has become a den of moneymaking businesses
Several brick-kilns coupled with massive deforestation and ferrying of tons of coal have sounded the death knell for the town that was once the most sought after place for poets and nature lovers
spread over 18-20 villages comprising McCluskieganj
have not only destroyed the natural environment but have also risked the lives of thousands of people living there and bearing the brunt of the pollution from the kilns
The Sakhuatar locality is the face of the dying McCluskieganj
Almost every member of a household is suffering from an ailment
“We are living in pathetic conditions but nobody is bothered
Almost every person living here is suffering from some kind of a disease probably due to the pollution from the brick kilns
No government official has ever come to look into our condition
We have to travel far even for a primary treatment as Primary Health Centre (PHC) here is in ruins,” said Lohra
Around 200 people live here amidst extreme poverty
Two brick kilns operating close to the homes have diverted their supply of potable water from a small stream
The hapless villagers now depend on a solar run overhead plastic tank for drinking water and often run short of water for days
Shankar Lohra (30) rues that the scarcity of water has reached to such an extent that they don’t bathe for days
“The water crisis is so severe that often we take bath after seven-ten days
The priority is to arrange water for drinking and cooking food
The kiln owners have blocked our natural supply of water
The quarrel over every drop of water is a regular affair near the tank
They (kiln owners) threaten us with dire consequences if we raise our voice
We fear that our livestock would not survive if the conditions remain the same.”
Villagers claimed that the water level has reached a depth of over 250 feet
It was available at 10-15 feet depth even until two decades ago
They blamed increasing pollution and massive deforestation for groundwater depletion
has lost around four acres of land to the encroachment by the kiln owners
“The kiln owners are destroying the fertility of the soil by digging upto 20 feet for constructing new units
They have not spared the forest or a private land either,” he said
“They have destroyed the fertility of my land by using machines to dig it
I have knocked the door of almost all the government departments but none us come to my rescue
Several hostels like mine are situated closed to the land being dug up and small children are at the risk of contracting diseases because of dust flying in the air,” he said
adding that the kilns have proliferated in the past three to four years as the administration is hand-in-glove with the wrongdoers
The environmental degradation of McCluskieganj calls for immediate attention as it impacts thousands of children as well
The town is a hub of educational institutions with around 25-30 schools and 60-65 hostels in its vicinity
Several thousands of students come from different parts of the state and even outside to gain education
Over 10,000 students study in Don Bosco Academy
The management of Don Bosco Academy has been raising its voice against the damage being done to the quaint town
over 2,000 people along with the teachers of the academy had staged a protest at the railway station against the proposed project by Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) to set up a coal siding in McCluskieganj
“The depleting environment is a matter of concern for us as thousands of students are at risk of getting affected if the brutal assault on nature is not stopped
We stand by the local people in their cause to save the nature,” said T.D
the assistant principal of the Don Bosco Academy
a Supreme Court advocate had filed a case at Eastern Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) and the chief secretary of the state claiming that over 2,000 illegal brick kilns were operational in the state and accused the administration of inaction
The state government in its reply had admitted that Jharkhand had 945 brick kilns of which just 317 were being legally run
The NGT in its judgment had made it clear that excavating brick earth for manufacturing bricks without obtaining Environmental Clearance from the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) is a violation of the provisions of EIA notification
2006 and operating the brick kiln without obtaining consent from the State Pollution Control Board is violation of the Water Act
The tribunal had also imposed a fine of around Rs
The town is also faces the double whammy of stone crushers and movement of hundreds of trucks carrying tons of coal everyday
polluting numerous trees and resulting in diseases being spread among people living there
Local residents say that trucks of around five coal mines situated at a distance of 10 kilometres from the town frequent the path for transporting coal because it takes lesser time to reach Ranchi via McCluskieganj
The mindless deforestation is the last nail in the coffin of the town where the number of visitors has dwindled because of increasing pollution
the Indian State of Forest Report (ISFR) had mentioned that areas of very dense forest (VDF) and moderately dense forest (MDF) had declined in Jharkhand since 2015
The VDF declined by three percent while MDF by six percent in the last two years
The state which was known for its greenery
had posted a marginal 29 square kilometre growth in forest area between 2015 and 2017
which is merely 0.04 percent of its total 79,716 sq
a Right To Information (RTI) activist based in McCluskieganj claimed that he has filed more than 20 RTIs to different government departments in the past three years seeking reply of the steps taken to stop the killing of environment but nobody has bothered to send a reply
“I wanted to know that how the forest land was used by brick kiln owners for their nefarious activities and filed over 20 RTIs between 2015-18 to mining
pollution and other concerned departments but am yet to receive a reply from any government department.”
He further claimed that the temperature during summers that hovered around 25-27 degrees Celsius in 1990s shots up to 43 degrees Celsius in the same season in McCluskieganj
The town has almost lost the very purpose for which it was founded by Ernest Timothy McCluskie
an Irish-Indian property dealer based in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in the early 1930s for the Anglo-Indian community
Nearly 350 families had settled in the town by the 1940s
earning it a sobriquet of mini England but just 10-12 families now remain
with most of them having migrated to foreign shores
Most of the 400 sprawling bungalows built by the community have disappeared over the passage of time with just fifty houses
still remaining to reveal the tales of the glorious past
No one in the administration seems to be keen to save the heritage town
Principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF)
Sanjay Kumar refused the existence of any illegal activity in the town
“There are no illegal brick-kilns operating in the area,” he said
The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPC) is also not forthcoming with any solution to the plight of McCluskieganj
“We have not done any study to find out the level of pollution there because it doesn’t come under an industrial zone
It is impossible for us to tell the exact situation but the department doesn’t occasional raids to stop illegal brick kilns,” said a senior official on condition of anonymity
Those closely monitoring the impact of climate change in the state say that rainfall has become erratic in Jharkhand due to the assault on environment
“The rain has become erratic and also lesser as compared to other years
the state received around 1100-1200 mm of rainfall as compared to 1400-1600 mm received in previous years
the groundwater which is dependent on rains has gone up to 400 feet deep in some areas of Ranchi
The constant soil erosion has also been destroying the fertility of top soil
The dust emitting from the coal fields is causing disease to the people,” said Nitish Priyadarshi
assistant professor in department of Geology
The government claims of planting new saplings but unfortunately
a forest can never be planted and what is gone is gone forever
one of the oldest Anglo-Indians in the town
was the first to start a direct bus service from McCluskieganj to Ranchi way back in 1940s
“The place has been our abode for generations
People flocked here because of its green cover and serenity but now things are no more the same
The assault on environment has robbed the identity of the town which it was known for
Time is not far away when it will become a deserted town.”
Banner image: Just a few of the sprawling bungalows built by the Anglo-Indian community in McCluskieganj remain
If the Green Revolution rode on the strength of chemicals derived mainly from fossil fuels
now there is a shift in the thinking on how agriculture is being done in India
with a thrust on growing indigenous crop varieties and following natural farming practices
Two suspected commanders of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP)
a splinter group of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoists)
(Representative Photo) Police said that a fight broke out among the Naxals over possession of AK 47 and money collected as the levy in which two commanders were killed
The deceased ultras were identified as Ganesh Lohra (35) a zonal commander of the outfit and Santosh Yadav (32)
Lohra carried a cash award of Rs.5 lakh on his head
The incident took place in the forest adjacent to Palamu and Latehar district borders under the Panki police station area on Friday
the police launched a search in the area and recovered two dead bodies
Palamu superintendent of police (SP) Reeshma Ramesan confirmed the two casualties during infighting among the cadres of the Maoists faction
“We are investigating to ascertain the reason that triggered the infight
Two ultras including one carrying a cash award of Rs.5 lakh were killed in firing,” she said
The preliminary investigation revealed that there was a dispute among the squad members over possessing AK 47 and the distribution of the levy amount.
