An annoying knee injury saw the world champ come into the 2025 season underdone
The question is: what does the rest of her season look like

World champion says she 'never reached full potential' during Spring Classics despite Tour of Flanders win in candid Instagram post
In a candid post about her Classics campaign, world champion Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) has opened up about the lingering knee problem and subsequent mental challenges she struggled with throughout the spring
Kopecky also spoke honestly about how the pressure on her to perform affected her in recent months, admitting that she "had the feeling I am just not good enough anymore", following criticism from the media on her Instagram
The Belgian started by re-addressing how she'd reacted to finishing fifth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes
referring to her statement: "I should be happy with this spring after the winter I had."
"I wasn’t looking for excuses and being straightforward is what I stand for
So when I said ‘I should be happy with this spring after the winter I had’ in the interview after LBL I should’ve thought twice before saying it," said Kopecky
high expectations and really had the feeling I am just not good enough anymore
But sometimes it is hard to hear everything people are saying about you without having any clue what’s happening in our lives
but that doesn’t mean we’ll succeed them all
which was caused by a crash at the Simac Ladies Tour back in September
but the world champion nonetheless missed some vital training in the winter
"I’ve been struggling with my knee this winter
Mentally pretty challenging for someone who’s kind of addicted to sports
I learned a lot about my body," continued Kopecky
"I could feel my body needed a lot of race rhythm because I didn’t do any intensity training this winter
relying on my base I built over the past years
I wanted more victories myself and honour this amazing jersey
kind of fresh feeling and very hungry for wins."
Even when she wasn't winning, however, her SD Worx-Protime teammates were, with Kopecky playing a vital role in Lorena Wiebes' victories at Milan-San Remo Women
and Mischa Bredewold winning Amstel Gold Race from a breakaway
"I already planned last year to start the season only in Milan-San Remo
I am happy I made it just in time & was able to help Lorena Wiebes to the win," Kopecky said
"I wasn’t able to make differences myself
so it made me really happy to help the team to win."
The world champion will now turn her focus mainly to the Tour de France Femmes
where she should mount a challenge for the yellow jersey and overall victory against former teammate Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez)
with more than enough time for Kopecky to rebuild that intensity she missed due to the knee problem
"Sometimes things happen for a reason," Kopecky concluded
aiming & dreaming of big things this summer!"

Lotte Wubben-Moy has signed a new three-year contract with Arsenal Women through to 2028
The previous deal for Wubben-Moy — Arsenal’s player of the year in 2023-24 — at the north London club had been due to expire this summer
Despite suffering a disrupted 2024-25 campaign due to injuries
the 26-year-old remains a key player for Arsenal
who believe she is vital for her strong leadership and being part of the culture on and off the pitch that can help them challenge for major honours
is another example of a graduate emerging from the Arsenal academy to become an established senior professional
There was interest from Bayern Munich and clubs in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in a move
but Wubben-Moy’s priority was to stay at Arsenal
excitement and optimism to once again put pen to paper at this special football club,” Wubben-Moy said upon signing her new deal
“Arsenal is the club I want to win with and I feel this new contract comes at a time in my career where my ambitions are matched by my abilities on the pitch
I’m determined to make this next chapter count.”
The centre-back has won the FA Cup and three League Cup trophies with the club
with the North Carolina Tar Heels before returning to London in 2020
The defender is set to be available for the second-leg of Arsenal’s Women’s Champions League semi-final against Lyon on Sunday
Renee Slegers’s trail 2-1 following last week’s first leg in London
Wubben-Moy is in many ways a cornerstone of Arsenal and her new contract reflects that
Despite a season blighted by recurring injury
the feeling is that she is no where near her ceiling
and many believe she has the talent and capacity to become not only an established pillar of Arsenal’s backline but England’s as well if given the space to do so
particularly given the partnership with England and Arsenal centre-back Leah Williamson
Wubben-Moy is also a player the club can point to when recruiting young talent as an example of the pathway that exists
a key strength as the game grows and academy production becomes more important to sustaining success
a quiet leader who demands respect not through force but through action
Wubben-Moy spoke about being “at the stage of my career where I don’t want to be taken for granted”
The claim was a declaration for her future

World champion reveals knee injury: ‘Sometimes it is hard to hear everything people are saying without having any clue what’s happening in our lives.’
Double world champion Lotte Kopecky revealed that a lingering knee injury hampered her spring classics campaign
and she took a swipe at Belgian media for what she sees as unfair criticism
In a candid social media post days after finishing fifth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège
Kopecky said that her stop-start ability to train over the winter left her short of peak form in the spring block
“I’ve been struggling with my knee this winter, being on and off the bike the whole time,” Kopecky wrote
“Mentally pretty challenging for someone who’s kind of addicted to sports
but that doesn’t mean we’ll succeed them all
The 28-year-old Belgian said she was growing weary of her supposed “lack of dominance” this spring
a sentiment that seemed to be playing out in the cycling-crazed media in Belgium
“I wasn’t looking for excuses and being straightforward is what I stand for
So when I said I should be happy with this spring after the winter I had in the interview after LBL
I should’ve thought twice before saying it,” she said
and really had the feeling I am just not good enough anymore.”
Those comments come after other top Belgian riders have been taking flack in the Belgian media all spring

Wout van Aert saw negative headlines after he missed out on a northern monument win despite a solid spring coming back from injury
Remco Evenepoel is also coming under fire after underperforming at Liège-Bastogne-Liège that resulted in one journalist even criticizing the role of Evenepoel’s wife and her family
Also read: What’s wrong with Wout? Or are we asking the wrong question?
That kind of unflattering media scrutiny comes with the territory in Belgium
where cycling is front-page news on par with European soccer
but sometimes it is hard to hear everything people are saying about you without having any clue what’s happening in our lives,” Kopecky said
Kopecky now takes a break and will not race La Vuelta Femenina starting Sunday in Spain
“I could feel my body needed a lot of race rhythm because I didn’t do any intensity training this winter,” she said
Her top goal will be to win the Tour de France Femmes this summer
I wanted more victories myself and to honor this amazing jersey,” she said of the world title
kind of fresh feeling and very hungry for wins
aiming & dreaming of big things this summer.”
Lotte Kopecky after het fifth place: “In general, it wasn’t bad. Our team was really good at the front and tried to help as much as possible. Having Anna van der Breggen in the break before Roche-aux-Faucons was really good for us. It’s just sad she got caught before the top. I… pic.twitter.com/cRMegHXOAd

Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers said Lotte Wubben-Moy and Daphne van Domselaar should be available to face Lyon in the second leg of their Women’s Champions League semi-final on Sunday

Belgian says she was 'really done with the opinions' amid criticism of her spring record
World champion Lotte Kopecky has taken to social media to defend her early-season results after a tough winter
"I had the feeling I wasn't good enough any more," she wrote on Instagram, after finishing the first part of the year with 'only' a win at the Tour of Flanders
The Belgian was referring to a winter campaign compromised by a knee injury that she picked up in a crash at the Simac Ladies Tour in October
high expectations and really had the feeling I am just not good enough anymore," she added
But sometimes it is hard to hear everything people are saying about you without having any clue what’s happening in our lives."
Most riders would consider the results accrued by the SD Worx-Protime rider over the past few months a resounding success
fifth at Liège and ninth at Milan-San Remo
The 29-year-old, however, has set her standard even higher. Last year she had taken several high profile results by this stage, including wins at Paris-Roubaix and Strade Bianche
Kopecky added: "I’ve been struggling with my knee this winter
being on and off the bike the whole time."
There had been media rumours that Kopecky's ailment was picked up through running
but SD Worx has already released a statement to confirm that is not the case
saying it was caused by the "aftermath of the fall in the Simac Ladies Tour"
relying on my base I built over the past years," she wrote
I wanted more victories myself and honour this amazing jersey."
Kopecky remains positive and signed off with a hint that she may target something major at the Tour de France Femmes this summer
"Sometimes things happen for a reason," she said

Rigel reactor cell removes doubt with exceptional performance in Ulsan
2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Syzygy Plasmonics announced today that it and Lotte Chemical have commissioned and completed performance testing of the world's largest all-electric ammonia cracking system in Ulsan
South Korea with logistical support from Sumitomo Corporation of Americas and Sumitomo Corporation Korea
This marks the second installation of Syzygy's Rigel™ reactor cell
the other being located at the company's demonstration facility in Houston
Building on positive results with over 2500 hours of testing in Houston
the results in Ulsan prove the viability of using ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and set the stage for energy importing regions like Korea to engage in clean ammonia imports
"Lotte and Syzygy made history with this project." -- Dr
While many agree that low-carbon hydrogen will play a major role in reducing global emissions
transporting it to energy importing countries is difficult and costly because it must be compressed
Combining nitrogen with low-carbon hydrogen from regions with ready access to renewable electricity yields low-carbon ammonia
the ammonia can be cracked with Syzygy's Ammonia e-Cracking™ systems to provide the low-carbon hydrogen energy importers need
Successful testing of this technology sets the stage for opening the hydrogen economy
"Lotte and Syzygy made history with this project," said Dr
proven way to crack imported ammonia for hydrogen
We are incredibly grateful to Lotte and Sumitomo Corporation Group for having the vision and showing the leadership to advance technologies like ours that hold the key to decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors
The next step is small commercial plant deployment."
With shipping and logistical support from Sumitomo Corporation Group
Lotte installed a Rigel cell at its facility in Ulsan
completed plant construction in early November
and completed field testing in December 2024
Syzygy provided onsite and remote support for plant commissioning through the duration of the test
Following KOSHA certification and installation
the Rigel cell immediately hit desired performance levels and operated flawlessly throughout all phases of the trial
Steady-state operation eclipsed previous performance
and by manipulating flowrate and light intensity during separate testing phases
the cell produced all-time best achievements of 11 kWh/kg
Data from this trial gives Syzygy a clear pathway to achieve 8 kWh/kg of hydrogen at the cell level in future Rigel cell designs
"We look forward to working on commercializing this technology in South Korea
Over the coming years we plan to work with Syzygy to identify a good application for building a small commercial plant together
which will be a big step towards meeting South Korea's growing hydrogen needs," said Hans Shin the Project Manager at Lotte Chemical

But with something so momentous – a player dedicating three to five more years of their career to their chosen club – it feels deserving of more fanfare
This is something that the defender Lotte Wubben-Moy recently set herself on when re-signing her contract with Arsenal, the club she’s been a part of since she was 13. And rather than just standing in front of the camera, she decided to get behind it too, taking on the role of creative director. “The vision was to create something that was raw
something that fans hadn’t seen before in an announcement video,” says Lotte
“something that was stimulating and that actually allowed a clearer bridge between the player and the club and the fans.”
This focus on the fans colours the whole video
the attention is turned to the thousands of people who make the club what it is
and that’s why there is this conversation between players and fans
and that’s something that I want to elevate even more,” she says
The voiceover throughout the video is a spoken-word manifesto from Lotte that speaks directly to the fans
while making the cannon symbol where the football badge would sit
a British Sign Language sign that was taught to Lotte by Izzy Trimble
a young Arsenal fan who she’s forged a connection with in recent years
“I do it as a celebration now,” says Lotte
I could probably go on forever about it.” Even the aesthetic choices in the video reference the fans
Footage of Lotte mid-game is interspersed throughout the video
but rather than opting for the crisp definition of a high-end camera
the grain and stutter of the film feels much more like a camera phone or a camcorder held by someone in the crowd
the streets of London that Lotte and her fellow Arsenal fans walk
Lotte says that “anytime I walk down the street
you’re taken on a journey from Hackney Marshes
all bathed in the warm glow of a sunny spring day in London
With the level of production and care and attention that’s gone into it
it feels disingenuous to call it a ‘video’
Alongside an already pretty rammed schedule as a professional footballer
why did Lotte want to get involved in the project
It was the chance to try something new and set her own rules
“In football and working in a big group with a big team
there’s so much that is chosen for you,” she says
It felt like this was a perfect opportunity to have creative control.” This desire to try something new is something that’s always been reinforced by Arsenal; “the support that the club has given me has been liberating and empowering,” Lotte adds
The contract renewal also coincided with Lotte’s injury – she’s been out of the game for pretty much all of 2025
as it resulted in her having more time to give to the renewal video
This sentiment is a clear sign of the positivity Lotte approaches everything with
being injured doesn’t actually mean you have more hours in the day
have been longer: “But I think it’s maybe given me a different perspective
Lotte has always seen creativity and football as intertwined
a period off the pitch has allowed her to adopt a more creative mindset on the game – “I’ve seen myself take a step back and actually be able to give more to the team
because I’m able to have an unbiased view on things” – it’s also facilitated a new creative perspective and more “free-flowing” mindset for the announcement video
“It was very difficult and challenging,” Lotte says
with working to a tight deadline being “really quite stressful”
teamwork was what really made it all come together
Lotte collaborated with a team she personally curated
Highbury local Peter Joseph Smith on direction and photography and SJ Todd – a long term friend
women’s football fan and founder of SJT Studio – came in as art director
there’s so much that goes on and so many ideas before you see the final piece,” says Lotte
it’s about the process and everything that’s gone into it.” She found comfort in bouncing ideas off SJ
but also feeling confident to “step back and let go”
The creative connections and collaborations that lie beneath the project go back even further – way back into childhood
Together with her sister (who still remains a close collaborator) the pair used to listen to The XX
even putting on a performance at a family event once with her sister singing and Lotte on guitar – “I wouldn’t want to watch that back,” Lotte says with a laugh
The song played over the top of the video is Jamie XX’s track All Under One Roof Raving
a song that doesn’t only post a lovely full-circle moment
but for Lotte also represents the energy and atmosphere of watching a game at the Emirates
Lotte’s face isn’t the only one you see in the film
They’re all past members of her initiative
Lots to Explore (previously called Time to Explore) a community programme set up by Lotte following her last contract signing that gives 16-year-old girls from the Camden
Hackney and Islington area a chance to engage with sport and creativity at the Arsenal Hub
Lots to Explore is part of Arsenal’s community department – Arsenal in the Community – an organisation that aims to positively impact the lives of young people in the club’s local area
the organisation has been key in supporting the women’s game; in 1987 it offered girls-only football session at their indoor pitch
a rarity at the time and a nice parallel to Lotte’s work today
These initiatives echo one of the key sentiments of the announcement film: ‘Sometimes 90 seconds just isn’t enough’
Lotte’s enthusiasm is clear: “I’ve got a big smile on my face because there are just so many good moments,” she says
she’s able to see girls who may have had no initial interest in football or the arts
the programme has been extended from eight weeks to ten
with around 80 young girls having made their way through in the past three years
that are only further proof of Lotte’s dedication to football

The start of the ″Sky Run″ at Lotte Tower
A towering monument to a possibly monumental mistake on my part
The firefighters were quite the hit in the plaza
The water stations became more and more crowded the further up I went
with more and more participants procrastinating on restarting
The arch at the top under which I was too exhausted to bother getting a commemorative photo
What is the ratio of active time to recovery time
The fruits of my labor: a towel that was very useful and a medal that was very heavy
The madlads who made the climb in full bunker gear
A fully outfitted firefighter carries around 27 kilograms (60 pounds) of gear
This was the only photo I mustered the courage to take from right on the glass before my fear of heights kicked in
Home hero Kopecky outsprints Ferrand-Prévot
Niewiadoma for record-breaking hat trick at De Ronde
World champion Lotte Kopecky made history Sunday, becoming the first rider in history to win three editions of the Tour of Flanders Women
They were 40 seconds clear of seven chasing riders with 3km left and thing boiled down to a reduced sprint
Niewiadoma made a tentative attack but was immediately brought back by Kopecky
who led the gallop out from the front and took a decisive win
“It was a crazy race with a lot of crashes in the beginning,” Kopecky said
“I was pretty nervous and I didn’t have the best legs in the beginning but I tried to stay calm
“After a few climbs my legs felt better and better and I know in the end I have a good chance.”
A post shared by Ronde van Vlaanderen (@rondevanvlaanderen)
Defending champion Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) was
However she crashed early on and while she continued for some time afterwards
Kopecky had no such problems and rode an increasingly assured race
“When it went with the four of us I was pretty confident,” she said of the finale
Strongest in the finale of San Remo Women but sacrificing her chances for teammate Lorena Wiebes
Kopecky started Sunday’s race a little unsure of her form
She said she didn’t feel her usual self in Dwars door Vlaanderen but as the Tour of Flanders Women progressed it became clear she was on a good day
Early on seven riders went clear and would build a maximum lead of approximately seven minutes
with Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) one of those to go down
Also ending up on the floor was defending champ Longo Borghini
who hit the deck hard with approximately 109km remaining
She was left lying on her right side for some time
However her injuries were too much and the Italian champion ultimately abandoned with 95km to go
Out front the break whittled down from seven to two by the climb of Valkenberg
but Nicole Steigenga (AG Insurance-Soudal) and April Tacey (Coop-Repsol) were then rejoined by Franziska Brauße (Ceratizit) with 63km left
Steigenga then pushed ahead on the Eikenberg and led solo over the Koppenberg but the adventure was over 39km from the finish
Kopecky was looking ominously strong by that point
Importantly she was also staying out of trouble
avoiding the kind of spills which delayed Chabbey and FDJ-Suez teammate Amber Kraak on a dusty corner
SD Worx Protime had several strong riders in play
including former winner Anna van der Breggen
and fired Mischa Bredewold up the road with Lauretta Hanson (Lidl-Trek) with 34km remaining
only to be caught almost immediately afterwards
Battered by the cobbles and the difficult climbs
the list of contenders whittled down to 17 before the Oude Kwaremont
Ferrand-Prévot swept forward there there and drove the pace on the climb ahead of Lippert and Kopecky
Niewiadoma and Letetia Paternoster (Liv AlUla Jayco) inched up to them but a big turn at the front saw the Italian rider crack towards the summit
where Niewiadoma—conscious about her lack of a sprint–hammered it from the bottom in a bid to drop her rivals
However she couldn’t gap them and Lippert took over towards the summit
Behind Pieterse and Chabbey went temporarily clear of the chasers and then settled back into a seven-woman chase group over the top
They did what they could but with a time gap of 40 seconds with 3km to go
All eyes were on Kopecky and she was left at the front inside the final kilometer
She didn’t hesitate when Niewiadoma made a tentative attack with just over 500 meters to go
She then led out the sprint despite a headwind
and was strong enough to hold off Ferrand Prévot and Lippert and to seal a historic third win in the Ronde

'I think it is a race that I can win in the future but just not this year' says world champion who now turns attention to Tour de France Femmes
making history with a third Tour of Flanders victory three weeks ago
but at La Doyenne the Côte de Roche-aux-Faucons proved too much and she had to settle for fifth
Kopecky arrived for her second start at the Walloon Monument after finishing 34th at Amstel Gold Race and crashing en route to 12th at La Flèche Wallonne. Lining up alongside her was teammate Anna van der Breggen
making her return after illness forced her to miss Flèche midweek
Everything was going to plan for SD Worx-Protime
as they stayed in the peloton while the rival Demi Vollering’s FDJ-Suez squad controlled the gap to the breakaway
which was eventually caught with around 74 kilometres to go
Attacks and counter-attacks flew off the front until Van der Breggen joined a small group of three riders
managing to stay clear of the chasing peloton until the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons
Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) launched a fierce attack with Vollering and Kopecky in tow
The climb proved too much for Van der Breggen
while Cedrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly) was the only rider from the break able to stay with them
But Kopecky could not follow the acceleration on the final steep part of the 1.3km climb as eventual winner Kim Le Court (AG Insurance Soudal) made her way to the front group.
The Belgian took the field sprint for fifth place
Our team was really good at the front and tried to help as much as possible
Having Anna in the break before Roche-aux-Faucons was really good for us
It’s just sad she got caught before the top,” Kopecky said
“I think I had a pretty good start on the final climb
The last kilometre was just a little too much
“We set goals and we try to challenge ourselves so I think we just need to keep doing that and I think it is a race that I can win in the future but just not this year,” Kopecky said in a post-race interview
punchy climbs of the Tour of Flanders and the pavés of Paris-Roubaix in 2024
she still has not been able to achieve the same results on the longer climbs of Liège-Bastogne-Liège
I have to be very happy with my win in the Tour of Flanders," said Kopecky
and that’s something I’m drawing strength from
I just need to let everything sink in for a week and then start preparing for the Tour de France with full focus.”

ShareSaveCommentLifestyleArtsRediscovered Pioneering Portrait Painter Lotte Laserstein Rises At TEFAF MaastrichtByNatasha Gural
Forbes contributors publish independent expert analyses and insights
01:30pm EDTShareSaveCommentInstallation view of Agnews booth at TEFAF Maastricht
a woman in a beret and an open fur coat exposing a scarlet dress gazes intently with pursed lips
with one hand in a pocket and the other adorned with a stupendous diamond ring and an elegant gold bangle
Her wavy hair is styled to showcase bauble earrings
The woman conveys fierce femininity and ambition
her chic look framed by a background grid of ancient art
Consider it a double portrait of female power
German-Swedish painter Lotte Laserstein (1898–1993) depicts gallerist Signe Schultz (1894-1960)
oversaw Galerie Moderne at Nybrokajen in Stockholm
Lady in a Fur Coat (The Gallerist Signe Schultz) (1941) is among the exceptional masterworks by women featured on a wall at the Agnews booth at TEFAF-Maastricht
the unrivaled global art fair that opened to the public today after two days of robustly attended invitation-only previews
showcasing works of art from the 15th century to the 20th century
exemplifies the depth and breath of TEFAF-Maastricht
an art historical journey traversing 7,000 years presented by more than 260 world leading dealers from some 20 countries
Among its vast yet meticulous selection of paintings
and sculpture beginning with the Renaissance and Baroque Old Masters
is committed to amplifying the work of women artists
Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase
Agnews rediscovered Laserstein in 1987 (in the artist’s lifetime)
rewriting art history to justly celebrate her among the most significant and talented women artists of the 20th century
The gallery reaffirmed its dedication to her legacy in 2017 with Lotte Laserstein’s Women
Laserstein began her art training at a school in Berlin run by her aunt
and became one of the few women at the prestigious Akademie der Künste (Berlin Academy of Fine Arts) between 1919 and 1925
learning from classic painter-etcher Erich Wolfsfeld
Despite winning the Academy’s gold medal in 1925 and earning critical praise for her first solo exhibition at Gurlitt’s
Laserstein took on an array of jobs creating decorative art and illustrating an anatomy text
The rise of Nazism threatened Laserstein’s life and career
when in 1934 she was labelled under new Nazi racial laws as “three quarters Jewish” and was prohibited from exhibiting in public
she was forced to relinquish her studio amid a dearth of artists’ materials
and her work began receiving attention the same year
with two paintings displayed in the Salon in Paris and an exhibition at the Galerie Moderne
Laserstein spent the remainder of her life in Sweden
becoming a member of the Swedish Academy of Arts
As evidenced by the selection on view at TEFAF-Maastricht
Laserstein’s work remains as relevant as ever
she opted for an androgynous look that would appear contemporary today
and explored subtleties of womanhood and female identity by depicting subjects with honesty and integrity
Her muse and favorite model was German actress and singer Traute Rose (1903-1989)
featured in intimate paintings such as My Studio and At the Mirror
Rose first became Laserstein’s tennis coach
and her athleticism enabled her to hold poses for extended time
Laserstein married Sven Marcus in 1938 to gain Swedish citizenship
but some speculate the artist and her muse were lesbians
Homosexuality between consenting adults was legalized in Sweden in 1944
but it was classified as a mental illness until 1979
both women convey a defiance of feminine norms
a feminist ideal that emerged from the term coined in 1894 by Irish-English feminist writer Sarah Grand (1854–1943) to describe independent women striving for radical change
What matters most today is the quality of her painting and the might of her enduring visual narratives

This is because you can buy deli (instant food) for that week cheaper than regular marts
"It was stressful to cook dinner at home every day because I was working together
but I'm saving time thanks to the food market."
goes to the Cheonho branch of Lotte Mart near her house on weekends
it is specialized in fresh food and deli and is efficient for shopping
"I come here often because I can see and choose the most fresh foods in the neighborhood."
which has opened a series of fresh food-specialized stores this year
has become a "hot battleground" for large discount stores
Competition between the three large supermarkets has intensified as Gangdong-gu has emerged as an emerging rich town favored by dual-income people in their 30s and 40s
and Homeplus Mega Food Market Gangdong branch
are competing as fresh food specialized stores in Gangdong-gu
is operating additional E-Mart Myeongil branch and Cheonho branch in addition to specialized stores
According to the distribution industry on the 4th
which entered Godeokgangil district in Gangdong-gu on the 17th of last month
succeeded in a great success by sucking up customers in their 30s and 40s regardless of weekdays and weekends
"It is going viral as an essential food 'sanji' for single office workers and dual-income couples," adding
"The response is hot because you can meet various foods at the lowest price."
the Godeok branch of the food market is doing better than originally planned
sales exceeded 140% of the target from the 17th to the 1st of this month
and each field ranks at the top of all E-Mart stores
The Godeok branch of the food market sells about 13,000 products
which introduces three types of domestic black pigs
The 'general pork' product here topped the sales of all E-Mart stores
"Although it is 4925㎡ (about 1,490 pyeong) smaller than other E-Mart stores
it recorded sales within 10% of E-Mart stores nationwide."
Lotte Mart opened a store specializing in fresh food in Cheonho-dong from January 16th
Lotte Mart has set up a 4,538㎡ (about 1,374 pyeong) store in the station area of Cheonho Station to absorb demand for office workers
Cheonho stores sold more than 30% higher than the average sales of 28 stores under 2,000 pyeong from January 16 to April 16
"It was effective to specialize in ready-to-eat food and convenience food products in line with the nearby commercial districts where the ratio of households in their 30s and single-person households is high."
Cheonho stores have 50% more ready-made food than regular stores
the sales composition of ready-made food at Cheonho branch is twice the average of all stores
Frozen ready-to-eat food also sold more than 500 units
ranking the highest in sales at Lotte Mart nationwide
Homeplus also operates a mega food market Gangdong branch in Cheonho-dong
Taking advantage of the locational advantage of connecting to the curved bridge station of Line 5
food-specialized zones such as deli and bakery were placed in front of the entrance
sales grew 21% in the 19 months from September 2023 to March this year when the renewal opened
and overall food sales jumped more than 30% compared to the 19 months before the renewal
Large discount stores are "all-in" in Gangdong-gu because it has been reborn as a new city with a rapid increase in floating population and consumption power in a few years
The population in their 30s and 40s reached 150,000 people
fifth among 25 autonomous districts in Seoul
and economically powerful dual-income people formed a strong demand base
has emerged as an emerging rich village with large-scale new complexes
and the floating population has increased significantly
The same applies to Myeongil-dong and Amsa-dong
where maintenance projects are in full swing
According to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security's resident registration statistics
increased to 496,000 as of April this year
Gangdong-gu is the number one commercial district optimized for targeting single-person households in their 20s and 30s
and family customers in their 30s and 40s at the same time," a distribution industry official said
"Competition between large discount stores will inevitably intensify."

Seattle
For business travelers and the aesthetically inclined
the Lotte Hotel Seattle hits almost every mark
Run by one of South Korea’s most recognizable hospitality brands
the Lotte (pronounced “loh-té”) offers an aura of sophistication
thoughtful guest service and slightly unconventional interior design by the world-renowned Philippe Starck
The luxury hotel occupies the first 16 stories of the 44-floor F5 Tower in the heart of Downtown Seattle
bar and check-in desk occupying the topmost floor
Mirrored surfaces and white marble result in an overall contemporary look
though a recurring arboreal motif—a nod to Seattle’s origins as a logging town—manifests in the trunk-inspired hallway carpets
wooden stools in the bathrooms and the carved sequoia log that makes up the front desk.
It’s also close to major highways for those traveling further afield within the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area
the Lotte Hotel added the Lexus Drive Experience
which allows hotel guests to check out one of two courtesy Lexus vehicles on the property and drive it around town for the day.
A stay here is also full of elegant South Korean touches
from the seasonal welcome drink—maesil-cha
during my stay—available after check-in to the wavy-edged white mirror above the toilet in every room
it functions primarily as a venue for conferences
weddings and other private events (and thus remains closed to both the public and regular hotel guests).
Each of them offers strikingly stylish interior design
including unique works of art atop the mirrors behind each bed or couch and all-marble bathrooms with mirrored doors
the two suites I stayed in over three nights each possessed a handful of functional flaws that were inconsistent
The original Junior Suite King City View I stayed in had a leaky
a sitting area lamp whose lightbulb needed replacement and a jerryrigged power strip solution to a broken power outlet by the bed.
When I informed the front desk the next morning
I was eventually offered a complimentary upgrade to a Premier Suite King Bay View
The suite was significantly larger and quieter (the background noise in my original room was much louder)
It also featured a bathtub and a second bathroom
but the bedroom had one major drawback: The blackout curtains didn’t properly close
leaving a wide band of light from the neighbouring office building to shine across my face while I tried to sleep.
I was also able to see a Superior King City View (the standard room type) and the Presidential Suite
Apart from the obvious differences in size and more premium amenities like a bathtub or sitting area
Starck’s design throughline is evident in each type of room and suite
Each dish I tried as a party of four was solid
only tasted good if you managed to combine every single component on the plate in each bite.
If you’re in town for sightseeing and general leisure
I’d rather recommend walking to restaurants in Chinatown International District
or the various eateries in and around nearby Pike Place Market
the front desk staff offered a complimentary upgrade when my first night at the Lotte was less than excellent
and were more than happy to offer recommendations for dining
The staff member in charge of the Lexus Drive Experience was equally knowledgeable
and the valets and security guards were always quick to offer a friendly welcome or farewell greeting.
My only slightly less-than-stellar service experience was during my dinner at Charlotte
partially due to a clear misunderstanding over an appetizer
Our server also tried to push wine pairings on the two guests who ordered the cheapest entrées—a not exactly subtle upsell
so you’re stuck tipping either way.
While I didn’t experience any of the treatments at the Le Spa de l’hôtel Lotte firsthand
the third-floor spa offers customized facials
All facial treatments use Biologique Recherche products
I did explore the on-site gym and locker rooms
You’ll find all the standard cardio equipment
a variety of free weights and a few other items like balance trainers.
but still want them to be fairly accessible
Despite a few functional flaws during my visit
Lotte Hotel Seattle is still an excellent place to stay for luxury travelers in search of something different or someone who’s in town on business
The suites are nice (and expensive) enough that you might not want to leave
it’s a great home base for exploring Seattle’s major tourist attractions and visiting neighborhoods beyond downtown
I recommend opting for a room or suite with a bay view
which features a separate living room and a bathtub overlooking the city
