Historically themed festivals are popular in Europe and can replace Christmas markets as a source for weekend fun
food and craft shopping for the rest of the year
They also offer more entertainment with real castles
knights on horseback and wandering Vikings
Channel your inner Ren Faire nerd and step it up a notch at a Mittelalter (Middle Ages) market or a Ritterfest (Knight’s fest) this year
It’s not necessary to dress the part for these festivals
but it can be exciting and often brings a discount at entry
Check festival websites to plan costumes for the appropriate time period
Many European festivals are medieval themed while others are Renaissance based
While these are often grouped together at fairs in the U.S.
in Europe the historical difference is recognized
Medieval fairs tend to generally reflect the high to late medieval period (1000-1500s) as a whole with markets
Renaissance fairs will often be a celebration of a particular local battle won in the 1400s-1700s and tend to have more scheduled reenactments
Most festivals have a camp where reenactment clubs purchase parcels year after year and people come to relive medieval camp life
and you’ll see folks from all walks of life spending their summer holidays dressed as peasants or blacksmiths and even paupers begging for coins
These areas are considered private property and will be roped off to give day-trippers a boundary line for their gawking
You may see people dressed as Vikings or other cultural groups like Huns or Celts mingling if they are appropriate for the time period
you won’t tend to see fantasy elements like fairies or wizards unless you attend a medieval fantasy festival
Some festivals have very specific theming; they focus on a single people group or a unique historical event
you can expect participants to really lean into the historical (or fantastical) accuracy
local festivals are very fun for day trips
Many castles and villages will have a single weekend fair in the summer
costumes and all things made of leather and bone at these quaint medieval markets
There is also the chance to drink some mead and get lunch at a food stall before finding a spot to watch a falconry or battle demonstration
There are some massive world-renowned festivals as well
and often tickets need to be purchased in advance
performances on multiple stages and huge camps or medieval villages
shop the market or just sit back and enjoy the jousting
a visit to a medieval festival is a must-do European adventure

a subsidiary of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH
is introducing the cloud-based system “PHOENIX WebInnovation” for air traffic control at the airport Memmingen
operates entirely in the public cloud and represents a technological paradigm shift in the air traffic control industry
It utilises state-of-the-art technologies and has already proven its worth as an enhanced information tool at smaller airports
It is a cloud-native product that is hosted on the Kubernetes platform of the company SysEleven
with which DAS has a long-standing partnership.
it will be used for the first time for air traffic control at a commercial airport
Featuring a modern radar screen and an electronic flight strip system in the tower
this tool offers flexibility and operational efficiency
It can be operated independently of location and hardware
providing secure access to the public cloud
Building on the success of previous projects
the system was further developed by DAS with the involvement of air traffic controllers
It includes an electronic flight strip system to replace the paper strips previously used
tailored to the special operational requirements of air traffic controllers at airports
‘The use of PHOENIX WebInnovation reduces the coordination effort and workload of the controllers
which significantly supports the growth and efficiency targets
the next step will be to improve data exchange between the airport and air traffic control
which will increase data quality for all parties involved and make flight operations even more reliable,’ says Ralf Schmid
‘The introduction of our cloud-based air traffic control system at a commercial airport is a significant success for DAS and the air traffic control industry,’ said Andreas Pötzsch
‘With the introduction of cloud technology
we are ushering in a new era of efficiency
reliability and digitalisation in air traffic management.’

This route will simplify the journey for passengers who previously had to bypass Milan to reach the destination
The link with Girona will also start up in late October
The service will operate three-times weekly and as well as serving the Catalonian region will also offer a gateway to Southern France
the revived Marrakech route will launch in late October
operating twice-weekly as the only link between Budapest and the North African hub
This route was last provided in 2019 by Ryanair
is a reinstated route that was also last operated by Ryanair back in 2012
this link will offer an alternative travel option to Bavaria and Austria

an all-electric F110e tow tractor from the house of Goldhofer is the new fast
quiet and emission-free solution for moving aircraft to their starting and parking positions
CEO at Goldhofer AG and head of airport technology
handed over this environment-friendly vehicle to Ralf Schmid
managing director of Flughafen Memmingen GmbH
Significantly more economical and efficient and just as powerful as a diesel-powered tow tractor
this zero-emission model can maneuver aircraft with up to 120 tons take-off weight
Ground handling on the apron of Memmingen Airport is now being performed more quietly
more eco-friendly and above all more economically
One of the keys to this improvement is a Goldhofer F110e aircraft tow tractor
whose diesel-powered counterparts are in service at many airports worldwide
not only means reduced exhaust and noise emissions at Allgäu Airport Memmingen but can also be operated far more economically than conventional tractors
“If we are to achieve our climate neutrality target
we have to commit to a number of investments
In addition to a combined heat and power plant and a natural gas filling station
With the introduction of an electric aircraft tow tractor
we have now taken a further step in this direction,” says Schmid
“We are delighted that Memmingen Airport has chosen to work with us in order to continue to move forward with its sustainability program
We are convinced that the use of electric vehicles at Memmingen Airport will not only reduce emissions and energy requirements enormously but will also be significantly more economical than with conventional systems.”
F110e from the house of Goldhofer – a universal workhorse worldwide
the world’s best-selling conventional aircraft tow tractor
is also available with an all-electric drive
With its combination of rugged engineering and powerful performance
it is the perfect one-to-one replacement for a diesel-powered tractor – as illustrated by the fact that it can be used to move aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to 120 tons
airport operators also benefit from the minimum maintenance requirements: Only the battery has to be topped up with water
The expensive maintenance items relating to diesel engines and transmission simply do not apply
Together with its subsidiary ALLgate GmbH
Flughafen Memmingen GmbH operates Allgäu Airport Memmingen

The company has now broken ground on a new technology and production center with 18,000 square meters of floor space at the location
"The construction of the new building in Memmingen underscores our strategy of in-house development and production in Germany
Our high degree of vertical integration and close proximity of development to production have always proven to be factors in our success
This approach allows us to offer our customers not only cutting-edge technology
but also a high level of security and reliability," says Christian Leicher
says that the investment will strengthen the Memmingen location over the long term and that the company plans to continue growing and recruit additional staff there.
"Our very strong growth is driving demand for dozens of new employees
especially in development and production," says Michael Dill
The employees working in Memmingen and Teisnach manufacture most of the product range in-house

Female member wins appeal to be allowed to take part in traditional Bavarian summer event
A German court has ruled that women cannot be excluded from a traditional event in which fishermen compete to catch the biggest fish in a stream that runs through a Bavarian town
The state court in Memmingen said the group that organises the town’s Fischertag
must allow female members to participate in the climax of the annual summer event
which features people jumping into a stream with nets to catch trout
Whoever catches the biggest fish is crowned the “fishermen’s king”
The tradition is said to date back to the 16th century
The 1931 statutes of the organisers state that “to preserve the centuries-old tradition” only male members who have lived in Memmingen for at least five years are allowed to participate
A female member who objected took her case to a district court in Memmingen and won
and on Wednesday the state court threw out an appeal by the organisers
It found that their stated aims of service to local history
culture and environmental protection did not justify the unequal treatment of members
The court also said the event had long since ceased to be a completely faithful reproduction of history
The group said it planned to decide on Thursday whether to appeal to a federal court
said the ruling was clear and the event “will change”
Both sides last month rejected the presiding judge’s suggestion that they reach an out-of-court settlement
The organisers argued that a majority of its delegates would have to approve a compromise
but they had already twice rejected opening the event to women
The case pitted associations’ legal freedom to set their own rules against the requirement for equal treatment
The head of the group that organises the Memmingen event
today (5 Sep) opened its new base at Memmingen
and launched its Memmingen summer 2018 schedule with 6 new routes to Fez
Ryanair’s 19 routes in total will help deliver 860,000 customers through Memmingen next year
Ryanair’s Memmingen Summer 2018 schedule will deliver:
Ryanair will continue to connect Memmingen with major business and leisure centres on high frequency
and Warsaw (3 weekly) with better timings and lower fares
making Ryanair the ideal choice for German business and leisure customers
Ryanair’s Memmingen summer and winter schedules are attracting record bookings
on lower fares as Ryanair passes on lower fuel savings
as it continues to roll out its “Always Getting Better” improvements
“We are pleased to open our new Memmingen base
Thessaloniki and Warsaw and 19 routes in total
and support 645* jobs at Memmingen Airport
Our based aircraft represents an investment of $100m
which further underlines our commitment to growing traffic
tourism and jobs in Bavaria and we look forward to working closely with our airport partners to deliver further growth in Germany
These new flights will go on sale on the Ryanair.com website
To celebrate the launch of our Memmingen Summer 2018 schedule we are releasing seats for sale from Memmingen from just €9.99, which are available for booking until midnight Thursday (7 Sep). Since these amazing low prices will be snapped up quickly, customers should log onto www.ryanair.com and avoid missing out.”
today (1st August) celebrated the first flight from Prague to Paphos
while on Monday (3rd August) it will launch a twice weekly service to Kosice
both as part of its extended Summer 2020 schedule
Ryanair has launched a seat sale with fares from 729 Kc for travel to Kosice and from 759 Kc to Paphos
which must be booked by Wednesday (5th August)
Airport parking retailer ParkVia has renewed its existing contract with Allgäu Airport Memmingen
Drivers parking vehicles at the German airport
which welcomes about 1.5 million passengers a year
will continue to have access to a range of onsite options when reserving through ParkVia’s intuitive booking portal
In addition to exposure across ParkVia’s B2C platform
Memmingen Airport’s parking products also benefit from additional streams of marketing through its airline partnerships with the likes of Ryanair
ParkVia Commercial Director Valentina Moise said: “It’s important that our airport partners feel we strengthen the services they offer and add real value to their customers’ travel experiences
which is why we’re thrilled Memmingen has chosen to continue our collaboration
“There’s a clear synergy between our shared brand values and we are keen to explore opportunities that will strengthen the partnership in the upcoming contract term.”
ParkVia has been growing its worldwide footprint this year, strengthening its hold in the European airport parking market and winning business in South America for the first time

People fly to Dubrovnik to reach Dubrovnik
How many of those passengers do you think flew to Memmingen to reach Memmingen
How many people would fly to DBV if there was a cheaper alternative like FMM is to MUC
Its a relief for many not to go to Munich to catch a flight and a relief for many Munich people to have a cheap alternative nearby
Zagreb is the only ExYu destination that didnt work from Memmingen
Some commentators here should take a map to see where is Memmingen situated
Memmingen itself is a small town but in the triangle among Germany
Everyone wanting to go to Munich for cheap
It's a 1 hour train ride and is also close to lake Constance
I have seen 4.99€ one way fares for ZAG-FMM
Sada nema uopće karata ispod 30 eur za niti jednu rutu iz Hr..
Well Ryanair did say that the era of cheap flights is over
They weren't really direct competitiom and I'm sure majority of OU passengets on Munich route are transfers
So only route they directly compete on is DUB
No other airline will launch this route any time soon
They should push for codeshare with Air Montenegro considering these fleet issues
Although they don't have the best track record when it comes to this region
Considering how many routes they are adding
Is it me or is Ryanair increasing VIE-INI to 4 weekly
Wasn't this route operated twice a week
They also increase BNX-VIE to four times a week
That means less connections for JU via BEG
BNX route does not even connect onto VIE route
In which bubble do you live when you believe people fly BNX-BEG-VIE
ZAG-MUC had 150.467 which is on average 200 one way passengers per day
It's not bad since this route is more or less operated three times per day with regional jets
But it should be considered MUC is covered from almost all Croatian airports too
you're happy because FR discontinued route
TGD and PRN are the only ones as airports serving the capital city with no direct flights to BCN in Europe
What's worse I'm sure there is sufficient demand from some of them
Surprised about Memmingen since they increase frequencies on this route last year
Maybe plane used for one of the new routes to ZAG that might make more money
take in mind the huge croatian diaspora in Bavaria its crazy this route didnt work out
I know that they like to go by car/shared car services and bus to Croatia but stil ..
the flight were mostly full and I’m sure the flights
There is a shortage in both planes and crew
Ryanair wants to punish Germany so it's cutting lots of routes there
Don't forget that many Croats who moved away recently also travel for holidays to other places around Europe from Germany
They are not like old gastos who would rush to go home every chance they would get
@18.44 as someone form Bavaria i can only smile at your post ;)
guess the people travelling from Ulm and surroundings to Zagreb and back ar f***ed
there are a lot of Croats in the suoranding towns.
Ulm..Lot of passengers from Switzerland and Austria too...

a largely agricultural area little touched by industrialisation
when hard graft and financial aid via the Marshall plan resulted in Germany's "Wirtschaftswunder" (economic miracle)
the region rose to become the country's economic powerhouse
Today the south is Germany's most prosperous part and home to tens of thousands of small and medium-sized privately-owned companies – known as the Mittelstand – hi-tech clusters and household names such as Daimler and Bosch
who runs the eponymous ropemaking business in the picturesque town of Memmingen
where the unemployment rate is a mere 1.9%
says the Mittelstand is the backbone of the German economy
Crucial to its success is Germany's tradition of craftsmanship – on-the-job training with some theory thrown in
who took over the business after the second world war
The firm has taken on 12 new trainees this year
Pfeifer also credits the south-west's entrepreneurial spirit
About 95% of the 128,000 Mittelstand companies in Swabia (Bayerisch-Schwaben) are family businesses which despite their high export activity – 40% of their turnover goes abroad – remain rooted in the region through their close involvement with local social and cultural institutions
"The German Mittelstand sees itself as rooted in the real economy – not finance-oriented but focused on quality and performance," he said
"You need banks that support this and don't treat companies as commodities." He is horrified at the idea that only 10% of global capital is based on real values
with the vast majority driven by speculation on financial markets
as well as featuring in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony
It has been run by the same family since the 16th century
when the oldest surviving document mentioned a dispute between two ropemakers
with nearly half of them working in its historical base in Memmingen
It generates an annual turnover of €220m (£176m) and has subsidiaries in 17 countries around the world
Pfeifer is hopeful that the company can survive in an Asian-dominated future thanks to its hi-tech products
The firm is one of Germany's "hidden champions" – little known companies that have carved out a niche for themselves and become successful internationally
Wanzl is a third-generation family business that makes every second shopping trolley in the world (2.8m a year)
and has factories in seven countries including China
whose grandfather and father were locksmiths and started the business after the war
inspired by the American inventor of the shopping trolley
said: "Germans tend towards perfection
Our work mania is often sneered at abroad but it's typical German culture – if you start something you do it with passion and see it through to conclusion."
German manufacturers have been quick to set up factories and sales offices in China and have invested heavily in technology and design
When Wanzl said: "We remain the innovator
and argues that his firm's broad product range is known for high quality and reliability on the world market
this sums up the situation for many German companies
Germany's local savings banks (Sparkassen and Genossenschaftsbanken) are a key pillar of the Mittelstand
While supporting traditional German values like saving
Pfeifer admitted: "Saving alone has never catapulted a company to the top." He also recognises that the debt-laden southern European countries in the eurozone have a different financial culture and cannot be expected to change from one day to the next
and the independence of the Bundesbank are key elements of Germany's prosperity
having contributed to the economic miracle after the war
This is what Germans are afraid of." But while structural reforms are clearly needed in the southern European countries
"Germany will not want to be the bogeyman that drove them to ruin"
Pfeifer believes that Angela Merkel's cautious stance on more help for crisis-ridden countries and her resistance to eurobonds – commonly issued debt – are merely tactical behaviour designed to maintain pressure on those countries and to placate Germans
Wanzl also sees no alternative to more EU bailouts for troubled eurozone countries: "There would only be losers if Europe fell apart." He notes that even Germany has highly indebted cities and regions – such as Berlin
Bremen and the Saarland state – that are subsidised by the wealthier parts
"If Europe were to break up into small states
we would play a diminishing role in a globalised world," he added

The logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is setting store by environmentally friendly transport solutions
A gas-powered truck has been in operation in Memmingen since June 3
which runs daily between Memmingen and Augsburg (day-time transport) and between Memmingen and Nuremberg (night-time transport)
“Gebrüder Weiss is committed to sustainability – and of course to minimizing the amount of pollution emitted,” says Frank Herzog
“Purchasing a gas-powered swap body vehicle represents a further step being taken towards using environmentally friendly transport solutions.”
The aim is to save around 20 tons of CO2 each year by using the new vehicle alone
Nitrogen oxide emissions are 70 percent below the limit for Euro 6 diesel
The range is between 1,200 and 1,500 kilometers
which corresponds roughly to the distance covered by a diesel-powered truck
on which groupage freight is transported to Augsburg or Nuremberg
is ideally suited for the gas-powered swap body vehicle due to its range and limited refueling options
two gas-powered trucks are currently in operation – in addition to the swap body vehicle in Memmingen
a semitrailer vehicle is on the road in the greater Vienna area
A third truck will soon be transporting goods from a major customer between Vienna and Kruševac (Serbia)
and a fully electric truck has also been undergoing testing in the greater Vienna area since September 2018
This primarily concerns electrification of urban distribution traffic
where zero-emission targets and low noise pollution play an important role
The findings obtained here in the test phase are then incorporated into the vehicle’s subsequent development stages
