18 YOUNG footballers from Frome Town United FC’s youth squad are heading for Frome’s twin town Murrhardt in Germany in July
having successfully reached their fundraising target for the trip
The players will take part in a mini European football tournament at Murrhardt from July 5 to July 7
They will play against teams from Frome’s other twin towns
and will also have the opportunity to travel to Stuttgart Stadium and visit the fan zones/Euro Cup event areas within Stuttgart City Centre
Fundraising activities included a bingo night at Badgers Hill and a challenge event that saw them climb Mount Snowdon
Frome Town United players on a fundraising trip to Snowdon
said: “We are extremely lucky to have such an amazing opportunity to play football in Germany against teams from four other countries
“We have all worked really hard fundraising to ensure we can get to Germany and I know we are all really excited
Thank you to everyone who has donated to make this trip possible for us all.”
Sienna from the under 14 girls’ team said: “In Frome
we are so lucky to have such a large number of girls’ teams
“For us to represent not only Frome Town United and Frome but also girls’ football within England is a great opportunity
We can’t wait for the tournament and the opportunity to play against girls’ teams from the other countries attending.”
A bake sale is planned at Frome Tennis Club’s open day on Sunday
They have already exceeded their £7,000 fundraising target to cover the cost of the trip
Frome Town FC Chairman Lee Seviour said: “This is an amazing opportunity for the players
who have all played for Frome Town United since they were very little
“They are now keen to represent their club and country
who is due to travel with the team to Murrhardt
said: “The young people have worked really hard to raise the money they needed to fund this trip and we hope they have a fantastic experience in July

Frome Town United have been in talks with Philip Campagna
Mayor of Frome over the past few months and Philip has been a real influence in ensuring Frome Town United players have been given this opportunity
“This is an amazing opportunity for the players to travel to Germany and play a seven-a-side tournament against players from Germany
The players are keen to represent their club and country
“Murrhardt will be covering the costs of accommodation and meals for the teams while we’re away
we will need to fund our travel to the tournament
If we are unable to raise enough money to cover these costs
including a bingo night on May 25 at the clubhouse
“The youngsters will be looking into lots of other ways to raise the £8,000 we need
Frome Mayor Philip Campagna said: "I am very pleased that Frome Town United have agreed to send two teams to the Football Tournament in Murrhardt
This is an excellent opportunity to forge a new partnership between Frome and our three twin towns
“The players will gain so much from the trip and hopefully establish new links and friendships
I know that they are working hard to raise the necessary funds for the trip
It is hoped that Frome Town United may be able to host the tournament in 2025."
