Automotive industry supplier Wagon Automotive Nagold GmbH and Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU)
To put its own production on a more sustainable footing
the company based in Baden-Württemberg will in future use CO2-reduced steel produced by the SALCOS® route for the manufacture of complex body shell modules
Guided by the SALCOS® - Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking transformation program

.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Nate Reens | nreens@mlive.comUPDATE: Dramatic courtroom showdown ends with Jeffrey Malmberg convicted of murdering 2-year-old
GRAND RAPIDS - Jeffrey Malmberg has been found guilty of second-degree murder today following a Kent County Circuit Court jury deliberating for about three hours
The verdict was just returned and Malmberg now faces up to life in prison on the conviction for killing 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez on Feb
Malmberg admitted putting his knee on the chest of the girl
the daughter of his live-in girlfriend Connie Martinez
During the five-day trial
he argued that Jozlynn's death was an accident as he tried to calm her temper tantrum
Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker worked to convince the panel that Malmberg should have known the risk of injury or death was likely when a grown man puts his body on a child
Becker said there was no excuse for the response by Malmberg
who bagged Jozlynn’s body and threw it in a Dumpster near their 915 Nagold St
Jurors also found him guilty of felony larceny from taking Connie Martinez’s tax return money and tampering with evidence
stemming from disposing of the girl’s body

"It feels good to hold a little one in my arms again."GRAND RAPIDS -- Surrounded by family and friends
Consuela Martinez tries not to dwell on the former boyfriend accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter
She doesn't know why he allegedly would put his knee on the little girl
leaving her unable to breath until she died
then put her body in a nearby commercial Dumpster
He won't answer our questions," Martinez said Friday on the back porch of her mother's apartment
now accused of second-degree murder in the Feb
was arraigned Friday on the charge in Grand Rapids District Court
Malmberg said little during the brief hearing
He has been held in the Kent County Jail since Feb
24 on kidnapping and larceny charges -- counts now dismissed -- and Judge David Buter left his $1 million bond the same Friday
The case has proven sensational and disturbing for the Grand Rapids community as observers struggle to comprehend any motive behind the alleged killing and body dumping
I've been crying for days now," said 20-year-old Joann Lyons
a friend of Consuela Martinez who showed up at her door Friday to offer comfort
Police and prosecutors have not divulged any theories about a motive
In a brief testimony for a warrant earlier this week
a Grand Rapids Police detective described how Malmberg allegedly admitted the killing
"The suspect, Jeffrey Malmberg, made a statement to police that on Feb. 22 at approximately 6:30 p.m. at 915 Nagold St. NW, Apt. 2, he put his knee on the chest of Jozlynn Martinez
and held her down which caused her to stop breathing
"Jeffrey states that he then disposed of the body by first putting Jozlynn into a garbage bag
then putting the bag containing Jozlynn's body into a Dumpster," the detective told a judge
Police said Malmberg also admitted to taking about $2,800 from Martinez's purse and fleeing the area
24 in Lansing after police issued an Amber Alert for Jozlynn
Police searched trash at the Kent County Waste-to-Energy facility
Martinez said she knows some people have criticized her parenting skills and questioned her relationship choices
"I loved Jozlynn so much," she said
She was not home when Jozlynn died and was out collecting her income tax money
Although Martinez earlier reported seeing her daughter in bed sometime after 11 p.m
"I could have sworn I heard her rustling," she said
Martinez talked about moments she'll miss in her daughter's life
"I was going to get her a potty trainer," she said
"She was going to be 3 this year and I won't get to see her on her birthday."

Martinez visited Malmberg in jail three days after his arrest
trying to get answers surrounding her daughter's disappearance
Malmberg told her the girl died falling down stairs
For John Rittenhouse
anger boils in him when he thinks about Malmberg
"I really wish we had capital punishment
He is cold and he doesn't care," Rittenhouse said
The Martinez family has established a fund at Huntington National Bank to accept donations to fund efforts to find the girl's body and pay for an eventual funeral

It wasn't immediately clear whether police would continue the search for the girl's remains at other locations
When they donned bio-hazard suits and began sifting through the landfill on Monday
police called it a "longshot" effort to find the body of Martinez
allegedly killed by her mother's live-in boyfriend
Police say Malmberg admitted to putting his knee on the girl's chest until she stopped breathing Feb

Officers thought the Dumpster contents likely went to the Kent County Waste-to-Energy incinerator on Market Street SW
but later learned two trucks of garbage were transported to the South Kent Landfill
Malmberg is in jail awaiting a probable cause hearing
while Consuela Martinez is expected in court Thursday for a hearing on whether she can get her 7-month-old son

"Jonathon gets into like a panic-shock and he doesn't know what to do," said a woman who described herself as the grandmother of his young child
Jonathon James Mitchell was arraigned Friday in Grand Rapids District Court on a charge of careless discharge of a firearm causing injury
He told police he was watching two young children for their mothers at 824 Nagold Street NW when he heard what sounded like a noise in the basement at 1:20 a.m
He picked up a shotgun in the house and it went off
sending birdshot through a wall and hitting Riley Ringleka in the face as she slept
running back to his mother's home near Leonard Street NW and U.S
The grandmother described Mitchell as a caring father who would never intentionally hurt a child
"Jonathon's not a violent person," she said
She said he is distraught over the incident
"He can't get the image out of his head of the girl's injuries," the grandmother said
The child is expected to recover and the grandmother described the wounds as mostly grazing marks
and she questions why a loaded weapon was left in the house

GRAND RAPIDS -- Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk has just announced that Jozlynn Martinez
2-year-old who disappeared from her West Side home earlier this week
told investigators that Jozlynn died at the home on Nagold Street NW
He said the child's body was put in a nearby trash container

.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Barton Deiters | bdeiters@mlive.comGRAND RAPIDS -- Jeffrey Malmberg will spend 30 to 90 years in prison for killing 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez on Feb
22 and tossing the little girl in a Dumpster like she was so much garbage
"Everything from the age of 3 until she is an adult
I will not be able to share those memories," said Connie Martinez
before Judge Donald Johnston pronounced his sentence Tuesday
"(Malmberg) doesn't have compassion in his body to cry or mourn."
gave her with excuses for his behavior and asked that she get a restraining order to keep him from contacting her
"I'm scared for my son if (Malmberg) gets out," Martinez said
"It's something a parent should never have to go through."
admitted he put his knee on Jozlynn's chest for several minutes
but he argued Jozlynn’s death was an accident as he tried to calm her temper tantrum
Given a chance to speak at his sentencing today
Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker convinced a Kent County jury last month that Malmberg should have known the risk of injury or death was likely when a grown man puts his weight on a child
Malmberg did himself no favors when he took the stand in his own defense
Malmberg refused to show jurors in his second-degree murder trial how he kneeled on Jozlynn's chest to control the girl's temper tantrum
This allowed Becker to demonstrate his interpretation of the violence the 40-year-old used
Malmberg said he couldn't remember his exact moves
only that he was trying to restrain the girl and he put his knee on the left side of her ribcage
Malmberg was also found guilty of felony larceny for taking Connie Martinez’s tax return money and spending it on drugs
snacks and pool games in Lansing as well as tampering with evidence
The little girl's body was never found
and police believe it is probable she ended up in the county's incineration unit
