German police said Monday they were investigating recent drone sightings over two military facilities
at a time when Russia's invasion of Ukraine has put the country on alert for espionage
Police in the southern state of Bavaria said they were looking into several incidents
in which drones have flown over military installations in Manching and Neuburg an der Donau
On Sunday police spotted up to 10 unmanned aerial vehicles flying in a secured military zone in Manching
which hosts a military aerodrome and is where the Eurofighter jet is developed by Airbus
Eyewitnesses also saw several drones at the same site on Dec
as well as in the early hours of Christmas Day
three drones were spotted over in Neuburg an der Donau
The two sites lie around 20 kilometers (12 miles) apart just south of the city of Ingolstadt
Police said they undertook “extensive investigations” into the incidents
“as it cannot be ruled out that military installations and defense companies are being spied on in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.”
police have not yet been able to determine who was piloting the drones
Police appealed to the public to forward any relevant information
including sightings of any “suspicious people or vehicles” near the two sites
The incidents are being investigated for possible breaches of legislation prohibiting “taking images which threaten security.”
In May 2024 a Eurofighter jet was damaged after colliding with a drone while landing at the site in Manching
In recent months several drones have also been spotted at an industrial zone near the North Sea and near the U.S
Germany has been unsettled in recent years by a number of high-profile cases of alleged spying for foreign powers
A Chinese woman was arrested in October in Germany and accused of spying on defense industry installations
Police also launched a probe in December against a Chinese man who was reported to have taken photographs at a naval base on Germany's Baltic Sea coast
Late last year a series of mysterious drone sightings in the U.S
state of New Jersey sparked worldwide curiosity
leading authorities there to announce drone flight restrictions
insisted there was no “national security or public safety risk” linked to the sightings and rejected any suggestion of foreign involvement

German armed forces and law enforcement authorities are investigating suspected Russian espionage activities following reports of unauthorised drone flights over key military installations in Bavaria
raise concerns about potential intelligence-gathering operations against Germany's defence infrastructure as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues
Bavaria's State Office of Criminal Investigation said the drones may be part of a broader effort to spy on German military installations and Russian involvement has not been ruled out
The latest sighting reportedly happened over a military base near Manching
used as a testing ground for both crewed and uncrewed German aircraft
Previous incidents were recorded in December when drones were spotted over the Manching base on three separate occasions and over another military installation in Neuburg an der Donau
In November 2024, a similar situation was reported when a number of "small uncrewed aerial systems" were spotted over three US airbases in East Anglia
warned defence companies and critical infrastructure operators about the potential presence of Russian saboteurs among employees and contractors
Russia has denied involvement in espionage or sabotage activities
but German authorities are treating the incidents as a potential threat to national and allied security
The head of Germany's foreign intelligence service
recently emphasised that acts of sabotage by Russia against Western targets could escalate tensions between Moscow and Nato

German authorities are investigating repeated drone flights over military sites in the state of Bavaria, sparking speculation that the NATO state is a Russian surveillance target
Newsweek has contacted Bavarian State Police and the Russian Defense Ministry for comment via email
Accusations that Russia sent drones into a NATO country amid its full-scale invasion of Ukraine ramps up an already febrile security situation in Europe and could test the resolve of the alliance and the collective response pledge in Article 5 of its charter
Bavarian State Police reported that drone flights were spotted over German armed forces (Bundeswehr) sites in Manching and Neuburg an der Donau
Three drones were reported flying on December 18 over the airfield in Manching
which is used to test the airworthiness of new aircraft ordered for the German military
Drones were also spotted on December 19 and December 25 over a military security area in Neuburg an der Donau where the German air force's 74th Tactical Air Force Wing monitors southern German airspace with Eurofighter jets
authorities detected 10 drones flying over the military security area in Manching
nor have any definite link with Russia been proved
under the direction of the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office and the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism
have launched a security investigation and called for witnesses to report suspicious behavior
social media users have criticized what they say is a lack of action from the German government at the prospect of drone flights near sensitive military sites
In recent months, drones have also been spotted near the U.S. air base in Ramstein in southwestern Germany and over an industrial site at Brunsbüttel by the North Sea
which has a natural gas terminal and several chemical plants
Bavarian State Police said in a statement on Monday: "Since it cannot be ruled out in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine that military facilities and arms partners or companies are being spied on
extensive search measures were carried out to identify the drone pilots."
wrote on Monday: "Is Germany powerless against so many
X user Grünfink wrote on Monday: "Entire swarms of drones are spying on Bundeswehr properties
And there are still no (successful) countermeasures."
Der Spiegel reported that the German government planned to amend its Aviation Security Act this week
given the resistance of drones to jamming transmitters and the spate of the devices being spotted above Germany
The move would allow Germany's armed forces to shoot down drones
while troops would be allowed to down suspicious devices with a ground-based air defense system
Fighter jets would also be able to destroy them with guided missiles

Germany has given the green light for the start of technical negotiations with Turkey on a possible Eurofighter Typhoon jet sale to Ankara
people familiar with the issue told Middle East Eye
easing its opposition to the purchase
“The German Federal Security Council in a secret meeting decided to allow the Eurofighter consortium to share the specifications of the fighter jet with Turkey and begin technical consultations,” said one person close to the issue.
The jets are produced by a consortium of countries consisting of Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK. All support the sale except Germany, which had blocked it over concerns that Ankara could use such weapons in Syria and Iraq against armed Kurdish groups.
Ankara plans to purchase up to 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets for a deal reportedly valued at $5.6bn.
A second person familiar with the issue told MEE that the technical exchange of information would focus on what a deal would look like if the sale went through with Berlin’s blessings
“This would include the complete technical details of the fighter jet
spare parts management and maintenance protocols”
the source emphasised that the move didn't mean a sale had gone through.
Berlin’s decision came as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York last month.
Several sources suggested that the German prime minister sought a deal to expedite the rapid repatriation of some 15,000 Turkish citizens whose asylum applications had failed.
a main partner in the Eurofighter consortium
told media that the fighter jets could arrive in Turkey sooner than expected
"Airbus is providing great support to overcome political problems," said Simon Ward
"We can see Eurofighters in Turkey in a short time."
A European official last week said that Germany had options to block the process down the road
even if it decided to begin negotiations for a sale with Ankara.
Turkish defence ministry sources on Thursday told media that they expected the Eurofighter sale process would continue positively and reach a resolution.
Turkey is expected to receive the first batch of 24 Eurofighter jets in the initial phase
with the remaining 16 arriving in future stages.
Sources familiar with the issue told MEE last week that Germany had decided to reconsider Ankara’s Eurofighter purchase request “with a fresh mind”, following regional tensions between Ukraine and Russia, and the Gaza war.

Germany-based OEM Audi has selected Sauber as its strategic partner for its 2026 entry into the Formula 1 World Championship
Audi plans to acquire a stake in the Sauber Group and compete as the Audi factory team using a power unit developed by Audi at its Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg an der Donau
Bringing 30 years of experience from the upper echelons of motorsport
Sauber will be responsible for manufacturing and developing the race car at its site in Hinwil
The company will also undertake the planning and execution of all race operations during the 2026 Formula 1 season
“We are delighted to have gained such an experienced and competent partner for our ambitious Formula 1 project,” said Oliver Hoffmann
member of the board for technical development at Audi
“We already know the Sauber Group with its state-of-the-art facility and experienced team from previous collaborations and are convinced that together we will form a strong team.”
“Audi is the best partner for the Sauber Group,” added Finn Rausing
“It is clear that both companies share the same values and vision
We are looking forward to achieving our common goals with a strong and successful partnership.”
Power unit development is already being carried out by 120 employees at the specially founded Audi Formula Racing facility in Neuburg an der Donau
with work being undertaken on the electric motor
“Sauber is a first-class partner for the use of the Audi power unit,” said Adam Baker
“We are looking forward to working with an experienced team that has helped shape many eras of Formula 1 history
Audi plans to expand the Neuburg facility in terms of employees
with the first power unit tests scheduled for 2025 ahead of the 2026 season
To increase sustainability within the sport
the power units used during the 2026 season will be more efficient than those being used at present due to the use of more electric power
The vehicle’s electric drivetrain will almost match the power output of the internal combustion engine at 400kW or 552ps
The 1.6-liter turbocharged engines will also be run on sustainable synthetic fuels which are net CO2 neutral according to European Union standards
Based directly at the German Air Force base
HENSOLDT Services helps to keep the German Eurofighter fleet operational
customer proximity has created trust and long-standing relationships over the years
News 20 years of Eurofighter service directly at the customer's site Laage/Ulm
26 September 2024 – The Technical Diagnostic Cell (TDC) in Laage near Rostock has been in existence for 20 years this year
The use of automated diagnostic procedures and advanced tools
was uncharted territory at the time.
The multi-role combat aircraft Eurofighter has been in service in Europe and numerous export nations since 2003
the TDC in Laage is of particular importance here
because it allows all components of the radar and the self-protection system to be repaired on site within a very short time and approved for flight operations
The model served as a blueprint for all subsequent TDCs: just six months later
the Technical Diagnostic Cell in the UK was set up using the same model
The Technical Diagnostic Cell concept is also being applied outside of Europe
another TDC was set up in Neuburg an der Donau in 2011 to support the country's ever-growing aircraft fleet with the same standards of efficiency
the TDCs of Hensoldt Services act as a direct partner of the German Air Force on-site and take over a malfunctioning device removed from the aircraft via the shortest route for fast and targeted repair
Our technicians in the TDCs are supported by Hensoldt's own diagnostic and test systems
technicians and engineers from Ulm work to supply the TDCs with spare parts and continuous technical expertise
we support the on-site staff in carrying out even complex repairs efficiently and with consistently high quality
the two TDCs in Laage and Neuburg an der Donau support the entire German Eurofighter fleet.
there are about 20 radar and ESM/ECM-related line replaceable items (LRIs) in the Eurofighter
main assemblies that are repaired in our local workshops
the key to the success of the model was the rapid repair of LRIs
The targeted replacement of defective subassemblies from the LRIs makes it possible to reduce aircraft downtime to a minimum while also reducing costs
This method is particularly advantageous for large and complex assemblies such as the CAPTOR radar or the PRAETORIAN self-protection system
and it conserves resources because only small subassemblies have to be transported for more extensive repair
The service staff in the TDCs not only repair HENSOLDT LRIs
but also the LRIs of the partner companies Indra
which are also participating in the CAPTOR and PRAETORIAN joint projects
The defective LRIs identified during the repair process are always returned to the respective manufacturer for repair.
Depending on how critical the situation is – for example
on the eastern border – the use of the German Eurofighters increases and with it
The high level of commitment of TDC employees makes it possible to react flexibly to such changes
This flexibility was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic
The 20th anniversary is a milestone in the support of complex systems such as the Eurofighter
What once began as a novelty has developed into a frequently adapted concept
The efficiency that was made possible by the rapid exchange of subassemblies continues to have staying power: upgrades such as the DP4 package on the Praetorian self-protection system
the extension to an E-scan radar or even the possibility of supporting further systems
underpin the TDC's concept for the future.
HENSOLDT is a leading company in the European defence industry with a global reach
the company develops complete sensor solutions for defence and security applications
the company is also driving forward the development of defence electronics and optronics and is continuously expanding its portfolio based on innovative approaches to data fusion

the sustainability report is fully integrated into the annual report to emphasise the equivalence of financial and non-financial reporting
the company is sending a clear signal of transparency to its stakeholders
As the manufacturer has now officially announced
its own hybrid drive unit is being developed for this purpose at Audi Sport’s Motorsport Competence Centre in Neuburg an der Donau
Around half of the power is to come from the electric motor
The background to Audi’s entry into Formula 1 is the new engine regulations
which from 2026 will see a sharp increase in the proportion of electric power compared to current Formula 1 drives
the new engine regulations were one of the prerequisites for the entry – if the regulations had remained constant
it would have been too time-consuming and probably above all too expensive for a newcomer to catch up with the existing manufacturers’ experience with the complex drive units
“Motorsport is an integral part of Audi’s DNA,” says Audi CEO Markus Duesmann
“Formula 1 is both a global stage for our brand and a highly challenging development laboratory
The combination of high performance and competition is always a driver of innovation and technology transfer in our industry
now is the right time for us to get involved
Formula 1 and Audi both pursue clear sustainability goals.”
the site in Neuburg an der Donau already has test benches for Formula 1 engines
high-performance electric motors and batteries
The necessary expansion in terms of personnel
buildings and technical infrastructure is currently being undertaken there
and all the essentials should be in place by the end of the year – at least that is what the manufacturer states in the press release
A separate company was recently founded for the power unit project as a subsidiary of Audi Sport
The now announced Formula 1 entry is also accompanied by a renewed restructuring in the motorsport department
until now both Managing Director of Audi Sport and Head of Motorsport
will move from Audi Sport internally to Audi AG in Technical Development on 1 September
Seebach’s successor in Neuburg will be Rolf Michl
Chief Operating Officer Racing at Audi Sport since February
The new Formula 1 subsidiary will be headed by Adam Baker
who was employed by the world governing body FIA for three years before joining Audi in 2021
It is not yet known which team will use the Audi power unit in Formula 1 from 2026
Audi wants to communicate this decision by the end of the year
Porsche is also likely to enter Formula 1 from 2026
an official announcement on this has yet to be made
it will come down to a partnership with Red Bull
Sauber is building the corresponding racing car at its Hinwil site and will also be responsible for the racing operations
Audi is also planning to acquire a stake in the Sauber Group but has not given further details
information on the further timetable: in 2023
the expansion of the site in Neuburg should be largely completed in terms of personnel
The first test drives with the power unit developed for the 2026 regulations in a Formula 1 test car are planned for 2025
“We are delighted to have gained such an experienced and competent partner for our ambitious Formula 1 project,” says Oliver Hoffmann

will be built at the south-western end of the existing building complex on a previously unused area and will be connected to the F7 building through a closed bridge
In addition to test benches for the power unit and engines
a mechanical workshop and workplaces for about 60 employees on a total area of 3,000 square meters
Completion of the extension is planned for the first quarter of 2024
Part of the new building is to be put into operation as early as March of next year
The electricity and heat supply in Neuburg is already CO2-neutral: the facility is supplied with district heating from industrial waste heat and green electricity from hydroelectric power plants
The FIA has awarded the facility its highest accolade for environmental conservation and sustainability with the three-star environmental seal of approval
Audi's goal is to generate the energy for the Formula 1 project at the Neuburg facility completely independently and regeneratively in the medium term
It is not only the infrastructure that is being expanded
around 220 employees have been recruited for the Formula 1 project at the Neuburg facility
The goal is to have more than 300 employees by mid-2023
"Developing a power unit for the world's most demanding racing series in Germany is a great challenge," said Adam Baker
Managing Director of Audi Formula Racing GmbH
"We already have a great team at our facility in Neuburg that is growing all of the time."

German police have launched an investigation after a series of mysterious drone sightings over military installations in southern Germany
especially with the ongoing war in Ukraine
which has made many countries on alert for possible espionage activities
The drones were spotted in two key locations: Manching and Neuburg an der Donau
making these sightings even more suspicious
The first significant sighting occurred in Manching
where police observed up to 10 drones flying over a secured military zone
Manching is not just any regular site; it hosts a military aerodrome and is also home to Airbus
but there were also reports of similar sightings on December 16
Just a few days before the Manching sightings
three drones were spotted flying over a military air base in Neuburg an der Donau on December 19
The two locations are not far from each other
situated just 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) apart south of Ingolstadt
The German authorities are taking these events seriously
especially given the sensitive nature of the locations where the drones appeared
They are looking into the possibility that these drone flights might be related to espionage
Police in Bavaria have confirmed that they are working with prosecutors and have launched a thorough investigation into the incidents
Helicopters have even been deployed to help gather information and track any suspicious activity
Denmark Police Launch Investigation After Mysterious Drones Appear Over Køge Harbor
Authorities suspect that the drones may have been used for spying
particularly in the context of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine
has been closely involved in supporting Ukraine
which makes its military sites potentially interesting targets for foreign spies
The police have warned that taking images of these military sites could be a security threat
as it could provide valuable information to hostile nations
the police have not been able to identify who was behind these drone flights
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the drones flying over the sites at various times
but there have been no concrete leads pointing to any specific individuals or groups
Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that might help solve the case
They have asked people to report any sightings of unusual vehicles or suspicious individuals near the military sites
This could help authorities understand whether these drone flights are linked to larger
Spy Drones Wreak Havoc Over U.S. Military Bases, Raising Security Concerns
This isn’t the first time Germany has been troubled by drone sightings near military or sensitive sites. Earlier in 2024, a Eurofighter jet at the Manching aerodrome was damaged after a collision with a drone
This caused significant concern over the safety of military operations in the region
there have been several other reports of drones appearing near sensitive locations in Germany in recent months
These include industrial zones near the North Sea and near the US airbase in Ramstein
combined with reports of espionage in the country
a Chinese woman was arrested in Germany for allegedly spying on defense industry installations
another Chinese man was investigated for photographing a naval base on the Baltic Sea coast
These events highlight the growing concerns over potential foreign intelligence gathering
Germany’s authorities are taking these issues very seriously
and police are putting in considerable effort to uncover the truth behind these drone sightings
especially given the current global tensions and its role in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine
authorities hope to find answers and ensure the safety and security of Germany’s military facilities

Audi’s newly announced Formula 1 engine project
will be based at its ‘Competence Center Motorsport’ in the Bavarian town of Neuburg an der Donau
The 47-hectare site in Germany opened in 2014 as the new home of Audi Sport
It is located a half-hour drive from Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt
Audi has confirmed the LMDh project that was based here was shut down to allow it to focus its resources on F1
the Audi RS Q e-tron Dakar Rally project will continue with the objective of winning the event
The Neuburg facility already has the required test benches for F1 power unit running
both for the V6 internal combustion engine and the electric motor and batteries
This allowed work on its 2026 F1 engine project to start in March of this year
It is currently making what are described as “additional necessary preparations” for personnel
buildings and technical infrastructure in Neuburg
“Certainly we have to bring them to F1 standards
that takes long [and] it is already ongoing,” said Markus Duesmann
“We have a fantastic team of people there
This takes some time and everything will be brand new
“That is not long – in less than four years from now we will be on the grid and racing in F1 races is not too long [far away]
But we are absolutely delighted and really happy to do that.”
All of this is expected to be fully up and running at the end of 2022
by which time Audi has also said it will announce its partner team
although Audi would not comment on the likely identity of its team
Audi declined to comment on the scale of the resource at its F1 facility
but The Race understands over 100 staff are working on the F1 project
This is expected to rise to around 300 once the recruitment process is complete
Audi repeatedly stressed the importance of the new-for-2026 engine cost cap in ensuring its spending level is kept under control and allowing it to “spend as much money as we spent in motorsport before
A separate company has been set up to run the F1 power unit programme
although it is a fully owned subsidiary of Audi Sport
This makes it the second new F1 engine facility to be set up in recent years
following the establishment of Red Bull Powertrains in Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom
Although Audi will be competing against established F1 manufacturers
the expectation is that the investment in its facility
the four-year lead time for developing the power unit before its racing debut in 2026 and the cost cap will mean it is not at a disadvantage to the existing engine suppliers
Adam Baker has been appointed CEO of the Audi F1 project
having previously worked as the FIA’s safety director from mid-2018 before joining the manufacturer in 2021
The majority of those were with BMW Motorsport
but included a 12-month stint as head of powertrain department for its World Superbike team
he held the role of head of race and test from 2013-2018
having responsibility for all of its racing programmes including Formula E
He was also involved in the BMW Sauber F1 project that competed from 2006-2009
initially as an engine engineer and then as head of race and test
he worked as an F1 engine engineer for Cosworth

Audi Neuburg inaugurated in ceremony last weekend…
Audi Sport will be moving its headquarters from Ingolstadt to a new state-of-the-art facility in Neuburg
which officially opened its doors last weekend
Inaugurated in an official ceremony attended by Bavarian Minister President Horst Seehofer and local politicians
which was launched in May on the on the 116-acre grounds
“Relatively soon after I started as Head of Motorsport at Audi 21 years ago
discussions about a center of our own began,” Audi’s Wolfgang Ullrich explained
“The former supermarket we were located in was always just intended to be a provisional facility
“The aim was to find a location in Ingolstadt and to be close to Technical Development (TE)
it became increasingly difficult to find facilities in Ingolstadt
“When the opportunity in Neuburg arose
we realized that it provided many advantages and accepted that we wouldn’t be in immediate proximity to TE
we’ll obviously continue to be closely associated with TE in organizational and technological respects.”
The move from Ingolstadt to Neuburg will be made before the end of the year and will be followed by Audi Sport customer racing
which should have its facility completed by the first half of 2015
“We now have adequate grounds and perfect facilities to set ourselves up,” Ullrich added
“Personnel can now be accommodated in accordance with our operational processes that wasnt always the case in the past
various functions that are distributed to Audi Sport and individual TE departments today will be concentrated at a single complex here in Neuburg an der Donau
“The fact that we now have a track for initial functional tests of our race cars directly on our doorstep is another advantage.”

The key to getting involved in the world’s most popular racing series is a clear plan to become more sustainable and cost-efficient. The project will be based at Audi Sport’s facility in Neuburg near Ingolstadt.
The German automaker Audi will compete in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship with a specially developed power unit from 2026. The project will be based at Audi Sport’s facility in Neuburg near Ingolstadt.
Audi affirmed that from 2026, the electric power output for the power units, consisting of an electric motor, battery, control electronics, and a combustion engine, will increase sharply compared to today’s Formula 1 drive systems.
The key to getting involved in the world’s most popular racing series is a clear plan to become more sustainable and cost-efficient. The new technical rules, which will apply from 2026, focus on greater electrification and advanced sustainable fuel. In addition to the existing cap on costs for teams, a cost cap for power unit manufacturers will be introduced in 2023. In addition, Formula 1 has set itself the ambitious goal of being a carbon-neutral racing series by 2030.
Audi says the electric motor will be nearly as powerful as the combustion engine, which has an output of about 400 kW (544 hp). In addition, the highly efficient 1.6-litre turbo engines run on advanced sustainable fuel – also a prerequisite for Audi’s entry into the series.
Interestingly this will be the first time in more than a decade that a Formula 1 powertrain will be built in Germany. The power unit will be built at Audi Sport’s state-of-the-art Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg an der Donau.
Julius Seebach, Managing Director, Audi Sport, says, “For the development and manufacture of the Formula 1 power train, we will build on the valuable expertise of our motorsport employees, continue to invest in our motorsports centre, and also recruit highly specialised professionals.”
Notably, Seebach has organised the entry into Formula 1 as part of Audi’s realignment of motorsport.
Seebach will also join Audi AG on September 1, 2022, and will take on a new strategic business area in Technical Development, reporting directly to the Executive Board. A separate company was recently founded for the power unit project as a wholly owned subsidiary of Audi Sport, and Adam Baker will take over the management of the company and thus the Formula 1 project as CEO.
Meanwhile, starting September 1, Seebach will be succeeded by Rolf Michl, who has been Chief Operating Officer of Racing at Audi Sport since February. Together with Dr Sebastian Grams, he will form the Management Board of Audi Sport GmbH.
Michl has a degree in business administration and is a long-standing member of the Audi Sport family. After holding various positions in marketing at Audi AG and Audi Sport, he took over as Head of Product Marketing RS Models in 2016.
After moving to Abt Sportsline as Director of Vehicle Customisation, Michl returned to Audi Sport GmbH as Head of Sales/Marketing in 2019.
Notably, Michl has played a key role in shaping the company’s portfolio and sales successes over time. In addition to his positions in marketing, Michl was responsible for devising and implementing the Audi Sport TT Cup in 2014.

BANGKOK--A group of German air force fighter jets landed in Singapore on Tuesday as part of a marathon bid to fly them some 12,800 kilometers from their home base to Southeast Asia in just 24 hours
The exercise comes at a time of heightened tensions between China and the U.S
and its allies over Taiwan and demonstrates the ability for a European nation to move air power quickly to the region
The European Union unveiled a new strategy in September for boosting economic
political and defense ties in the Indo-Pacific
German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht told reporters that despite the war in Ukraine being a priority at the moment
the Eurofighter mission underscores that Asia has not been forgotten
“We are at the side of all of those who stand for our values such as democracy
and are also willing to contribute,” she said as the aircraft took off from Neuburg
“Our focus at the moment is naturally on the eastern flank
for which Russia’s brutal war of aggression is to blame
but we also have to keep an eye on other regions.”
Part of the EU’s new strategy for the Asia-Pacific is focused on improving maritime security and ensuring safe passage through sea lanes
and several European nations have sent naval assets to the region for maneuvers this year
As China has grown more assertive in the region
Britain and others have also made it increasingly a priority
Germany sent the frigate Bayern to the region on a nearly seven-month deployment that wound up earlier this year
the first time a German warship had been in the Indo-Pacific for nearly two decades
It took part in joint exercises with allies including Australia
The six multirole Eurofighter jets involved in the current exercise were accompanied by four transport aircraft and three tankers
They were refueled in-air along the lengthy flight
and also made stops along the way for refueling
said that two of the Eurofighters were found to have technical problems
One was fixed on site but the other had a defect in its hydraulics system so was held back
The Luftwaffe said personnel were sent from Germany to repair it further so that it would be available for upcoming exercises in Australia
where all the aircraft are heading after Singapore
The so-called Pitch Black exercise is bringing together some 2,500 personnel and 100 aircraft from around the globe for three weeks in Australia’s Northern Territory
Britain and the Netherlands are participating
The exercise is designed to test and improve multinational force integration
and “recognize Australia’s strong relationships and the high value we place on regional security and fostering closer ties throughout the Indo-Pacific region,” the Royal Australian Air Force said

In recent weeks, the defense systems of the EU Joint Research Centre, located in Ispra, have detected five flybys of unidentified drones, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reports.
the drone disappeared as soon as it was noticed
it flew over one of the most heavily protected facilities in northern Italy
It is currently unknown whether the drones came from nearby territories or from elsewhere
The staff of the EU Joint Research Centre alerted security agencies about the presence of the mysterious drone
Thanks to an experimental system for detecting unknown flying objects
they were able to intercept at least five flybys of the device over the past few days
Media reports suggest that the drone in question is believed by experts to be of Russian origin
It is noted that such drones may be equipped with cameras and digital devices capable of capturing targets in fine detail even at night
The Ansa agency reports that the Milan prosecutor's office will soon officially begin an investigation into this incident
At the beginning of January this year, unidentified drones were spotted over the territory of the Riga International Airport. In this regard
the Civil Aviation Agency of Latvia has asked the State Police and the State Security Service to investigate possible threats to civil aviation
RBC-Ukraine also reported that the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office launched an investigation after several drones were spotted over Bundeswehr facilities in Manching and Neuburg an der Donau.
Germany reported regular drone flights over military bases where Ukrainian defenders are trained
On the night of Saturday, December 9, an unidentified aircraft was spotted in the skies over Germany, which did not communicate with controllers. German fighter jets were alerted because of it, reports Bild
An unidentified aircraft entered German airspace from Lithuania
Two supersonic Eurofighter jets from the Luftwaffe's tactical squadron in Neuburg an der Donau were alerted
They flew over the skies of Bavaria and Thuringia to intercept the offending aircraft
the German fighter jets came as close as possible to the plane from Lithuania and made eye contact with its pilot
He explained that there was a loss of communication
He changed course and the fighter jets escorted him to Polish airspace
The publication notes that residents of Bavaria and Thuringia
reporting a roar in the sky and shaking glass in the windows
One of the residents complained that he spilled beer because of the loud noise
The fledgling Federal Republic of Germany had barely been founded when German car owners were already giving their prize pieces a good shine with car care products from Sonax
As one of the pioneers in the development and production of car care products
the then Neuburg-based family company Franz Hoffmann and Söhne KG first brought products to market under the brand Sonax in 1950.
the company now known as Sonax GmbH has successfully taken on the special challenges of the crisis and is there to support its retail partners and clients
“Stay home” – that was the motto that company owner and Managing Director Manfred Hoffmann announced early on in the anniversary year
This and many other health protection measures enabled the company based in Neuburg an der Donau to continue on its successful journey through the crisis
The driver for the success continues to be the high-performance range of products: including paintwork care products
manual interior and exterior cleaning products and winter care products
utility vehicle care and a wide range of industrial and trade applications
the company is now more diversified than almost any other manufacturer on the market.
Sonax has been present at its headquarters in Neuburg an der Donau since 2008 with a new administrative building and modern training facilities
Sonax GmbH is the highest-turnover branch of the Hoffmann Group
which continues to extract and process Neuburg silica
successfully active in the label printing market
The management of Sonax GmbH took a far-sighted commercial decision at the beginning of their anniversary year to switch part of its operations to produce hand sanitiser
With its expertise in the production of cleaning agents
the Neuburg company was able to offer a product that met World Health Organisation specifications
And this was urgently needed by public organisations and medical and social institutions.
Thanks to state-of-the-art production facilities and available raw materials
Sonax was very quickly able to close these supply gaps in regional and national organisations
The hand sanitiser is also available nationwide via the classic distribution channels for all retail customers and thus for private households in container sizes from 50 millilitres to 25 litres
a hand sanitising cloth was also successfully brought onto the market
and a surface disinfectant is being developed
“We have approached this new area of application with all available means and resources and were able to help not only our company but many people during this crisis
We were very pleased about this and encouraged to develop a new business area on this basis,” said Manfred Hoffmann.
“But interest in car care has also risen sharply in recent months,” he added
“Customers still find it important to maintain their car's value which we are of course very happy about - after all
This success story follows on seamlessly from the company's history
which has repeatedly proven that times of crisis also offer up opportunities for a company's further development
The history of the Sonax brand goes back to the beginning of the last century
the great-grandfather of the company’s current owner
which was used in many polishes by manufacturers of household care products
the company added another string to its bow in the production of care products
two brands were registered and patented: the “Sona” brand was primarily intended to be used as a household silver polish
and the brand name “Sonax” was coined for car care products with the addition of an “x” as a synonym for “wax”
This is how the company forged its way into the car care industry.
Sonax was already setting itself apart with high-quality products
professional field sales support and creative marketing activities
It was only gradually that other car care products were added to the paintwork care products
This included the development of an effective de-icing fluid in the Neuburg laboratory which was the first to reach the market in an aerosol can and achieved incredible sales in the harsh winter of 1962
the number of cars on the road increased fourfold
the number of miles driven increased threefold and the length of motorway in Germany doubled
Demand for car care products also increased rapidly – and with it the success of the Sonax brand
It was during these years that a genuine interior cleaner
was developed specially for synthetic surfaces in cars
the Neuburg-based company began to develop Sonax with its current logo in large red letters as the premium umbrella brand for cars
The product range was constantly expanded and the memorable brand image
advertising and sponsoring activities helped to gain ever greater renown
Thanks to successful partnerships in motor sports such as with Hans-Joachim Stuck
Another boost for the company's development was provided by the German reunification
with sales doubling within a short time after 1989
the brand is represented in more than 115 countries worldwide
The export share has grown by more than 43 per cent
Sonax products are represented throughout Europe and on all continents.
Sonax has been involved in motor sports for decades
which has been crucial in helping to shape the global image of the brand
It has also given the products with their red logo a unique attraction
Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jacques Villeneuve – these big names in motor sports have already zoomed across the finishing line with the Sonax logo on their cars or racing suits
such as the Audi Sport Team ABT Sportsline
and as official supplier the Formula 1 team Infiniti Red Bull Racing or the Hoonigan Division with drift icon Ken Block to shine
the company now supports numerous international teams on the world's toughest race courses
electrifying cooperation in international motor sports: as a partner for the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team in the ABB FIA Formula E.
The latest chapter in the company’s success story is being accompanied by major expansion activities
the company moved into its new and spacious reception and administration building with state-of-the-art training rooms
which became the showpiece of the company on the Münchener Strasse
With the construction of a new centre for application technology in 2012
the course was set for reinforcing the research and development activities
Investment in the double-digit millions allowed the production and logistics capacities at the Neuburg headquarters to be expanded significantly
The new facilities were commissioned in 2014.
The long-established Neuburg-based company is now taking an even bigger step
It is currently investing in a second production and logistics site in nearby Oberhausen
Sonax has acquired a plot of around 14 hectares with an additional 14 hectares as an ecological compensation area
The ground-breaking ceremony for the €25 million project took place on 2 June 22
A 22,500 square-metre logistics hall will go into operation in around two years
The construction of a new production hall with a further investment volume of €15 million is scheduled to start in 2025
