Two UNC volleyball players earned All-ACC honors on Monday
as the league released its annual postseason awards
Senior middle hitter Beth Nordhorn was named a First Team All-Conference selection
while last season’s ACC Player of the Year–junior outside hitter Taylor Leath–followed up that effort with a Second Team nod this year
Nordhorn–who stands 6-foot-7–was a force on both offense and defense all season long for head coach Joe Sagula
She finished third in program history with a .378 hitting percentage
while also finishing eighth in the ACC with 1.15 blocks per game
led the Tar Heels with 336 kills this season and was second in both digs (228) and service aces (20)
After entering the year with high expectations in the preseason
UNC battled a number of significant injuries on the way to a 14-14 record in the regular season–however
it missed out on a spot in the NCAA Tournament
The Tar Heels were 13-1 at home and 1-13 in matches on the road and at neutral sites
“I am proud of our team this year to find a way make it through the adversity we faced with so many injuries,” Sagula said
“I am especially proud of both Beth and Taylor for how well they performed throughout the season
They both played every match and that is a testament to their hard work and competitive drive.”

Nordhorn Baptist Church looks to Lynx Pro Audio for clearer voice reproduction
German Baptist church Baptistenkirche Nordhorn recently enlisted the help of Pan-pro GmbH in order to improve sound reinforcement inside the church. The church needed to upgrade its sound systems for clear voice reproduction and the installer opted for the use of Ionic column speakers, which are designed for reverberant installations such as houses of worship.
“It has been found that the Ionic series from Lynx Pro Audio delivers excellent results, especially in acoustically demanding rooms,” commented Pan-pro audio consultant Tom Fuhrmann. “Significantly improved speech intelligibility and a balanced sound image were decisive for the customer’s satisfaction.”
Installed inside Baptistenkirche Nordhorn are three Ionic-100 for the main area, seven Ionic-50 for the senior space and under balcony area, and a single Ionic-18S subwoofer all fed by Yamaha MTX5D and RS4-4000 amplifiers.

Animal keepers had collected the egg in the muddy ground under a tree where it had been dropped by a griffon vulture called Lisa, said national news agency DPA.
"Lisa had made no attempt to build a nest," the report quoted Nordhorn zoo spokeswoman Ina Deiting as saying.
The egg was temporarily placed in an incubator before being entrusted to the male couple, Isis and Nordhorn, who "promptly sat on it," said Deiting.
The biological parentage of the egg is unclear, and zoo keepers also don't know yet whether it is fertilised.
The story of Isis and Nordhorn is the second involving gay birds to make news in Germany this month.
Several days ago newspapers reported that the gay king penguin couple Stan and Olli had been moved from a Berlin zoo to an all-male enclosure in Hamburg.
