In today’s world, 25 or even 40 years at a company may seem like a small eternity. For those who achieve such a feat, it is a source of great pride – especially in turbulent times, which Continental has also experienced in Northeim. At the beginning of July, Continental therefore took the opportunity to celebrate, congratulate and thank its long-standing and loyal employees. EmailA total of several thousand years of Continental: The Northeim site celebrates its anniversaries.Around 200 guests, 76 of them long-service employees, were invited to the FREIGeist hotel in Northeim for food and drink, live music, dancing, entertainment and an informal catch-up. The warm summer evening rounded off the relaxed and cheerful ambiance, and guests and organizers were delighted. and HR manager Jens Heuchert are pleased with the successful event. When employees celebrate their long-service anniversaries with a company this naturally speaks for the company and the region but most of all for the employees themselves who started here as an apprentice and will in all likelihood retire here as well “One of Continental’s aims with this celebration was to thank its long-standing employees at the site for their loyalty and commitment,” emphasizes personnel manager Jens Heuchert who organized the celebration together with his colleague Elke Heese “The event is an important way for to us to make our appreciation clear I’m very pleased that the guests felt the celebration was successful and that they feel valued as a result.” who heads Continental’s Surface Solutions business area explicitly mentioned this in his celebratory speech Addressing the long-service employees directly dedication and great commitment over such a long period You are the embodiment of Continental’s strong community in Northeim the site would not be what it is today: an important and recognized employer in the region and a cornerstone for the Continental Group.” the Continental plant in Northeim is one of the largest employers in the region The company has been manufacturing here since 1964 and currently produces conveyor belts for mining and industry hose lines and sealing parts for the automotive industry Hanover/Northeim, Germany, September 7, 2022. Continental invited the entire workforce to an employee day at its Northeim site. Last Thursday, employees from the four business areas of the Group’s industrial division had the opportunity to enjoy a colorful and varied program of events on the company’s own premises, food and drink included. Practical support was provided by organizations and companies from the region around Northeim. safety and health at Continental Northeim“It was good to see the staff laughing and socializing together again I am particularly proud of the project team which comprised committed employees from various departments and which made this day possible in the first place,” said project manager Philipp Meyer safety and health in the ESH division at Continental in Northeim the opportunity to collaborate with partners from around the region was also extremely valuable Many of them provided support on the day with their own booth offering interesting services and attractions “We are deeply rooted here in the region and are also well connected Many of our partners gave us great support that day the company THIMM GmbH placed the adjacent parking lot at the plant’s disposal “These close collaborations reflect our site’s philosophy of working even more closely with others in the region This will also be evident in our support for the Northeim City Run which takes place soon,” Mätschke emphasized adding: “A huge thank you especially to our colleagues who attended in such large numbers on the day and brought the necessary spark of life This was a genuinely successful event that was beneficial to us all.” EmailAndreas Mätschke has been the new site manager in Northeim since the beginning of the year. For new location manager Andreas Mätschke Northeim’s variety of products and technologies in particular represents a great opportunity: “With the Northeim plant Continental is one of the largest employers in the region and the highly diverse range of products naturally makes the location very attractive to future employees,” says the Hanover-born manager there is scope to further increase awareness of the location’s potential and dynamics and to communicate its attractiveness and technological strength to the outside world The focus here is on our latest digital transformation services in particular This will appeal to young professionals – and that’s exactly what we want.” One example of this is the partnership with Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University which will start this spring and through which Continental Northeim will support and accept students from the Digital Industry degree program “Communication and networking are extremely important – both externally and internally I feel that the Northeim location has been somewhat underestimated in these respects I would like to change this with my colleagues here,” says Mätschke The goal is to sharpen the profile and show what the Northeim location stands for and what it means to the region and Continental “That’s why I’d also like to further develop our good contacts and joint dialog with institutions Mätschke is a familiar figure in the company he headed the Stolzenau location (Germany) where surface materials for car interiors are manufactured He began his career at Continental as a chemical engineering assistant back in 1987 at what was then Benecke-Kaliko AG He was happy to accept the position at Northeim not least due to the coordination of the four business areas The initial aim will be to talk to as many colleagues and partners as possible listen carefully and learn – and then work together to shape things.” and that’s true for a Lorain County sheriff’s deputy who formed a special relationship with a 10-year-old boy with autism As the school resource officer at Firelands Local Schools Deputy Cody Northeim’s job is about more than just keeping students and staff safe It's also about making meaningful connections with the kids he serves “I'd like to consider it like a big brother or father figure,” Northeim said of his relationship with Hillis He also helped him through a recent rough patch when Ricky’s mom Stephanie Hillis said he began struggling in school He didn't want to do anything,” Hillis said She and school administrators turned to Northeim for help because of the relationship he’d started to form with Ricky forming that relationship wasn’t easy at first “At first he wasn't too fond of law enforcement but it took a few times of showing him my police car and showing the lights and how everything works and now he pretty much knows all of our gear and everything in the car better than I know it,” Northeim said “Ricky had been scared of the police for a long time and it's just due to a lot of things that have happened like with the fire department and going up there with the sirens and the loud noises because with autism he doesn't like loud noises,” Hillis said “So I started with the fire department and then I went you know to several different police departments but he seems to have attached himself to Cody.” Northeim’s efforts eventually helped Ricky gain 15 pounds and start looking forward to school “I started eating lunch with him every day and every once in a while I’d get him off the bus and walk with him to class make sure everything's going good,” Northeim said “And we just continued that every single day and I still to this day keep eating lunch with Ricky and our relationship just started growing and I learned a lot about Ricky during those times.” Hillis is thrilled by the relationship and Ricky’s progress He will work with Cody tremendously like Cody can pretty much get him to do what he needs to do,” Hillis said “And if he's having a bad day and they call him he'll come over and talk to Ricky for five and then Ricky's switched around and can finish out the day.” her happiness grew tenfold after being surprised by this video of Ricky and Northeim reading a Christmas book together Ricky is selectively mute and doesn’t like reading in front of people but felt comfortable enough with Northeim to read along and that was like the best Christmas present ever,” Hillis said Northeim was humbled by the praise and said it's all in a day’s work helping kids like Ricky be the best they can be “I'd like to see him also grow up and hopefully be in this position and be able to see him graduate one day too,” Northeim said Northeim is also hoping to change other students’ perceptions about law enforcement like he did with Ricky We're all here trying to protect everybody and just do our job and the perks of this being in school really weighs a big benefit by allowing us to be in a position to really impact our kids’ lives especially at a young age here at the elementary school,” Northeim said Jade Jarvis is a reporter at News 5 Cleveland.
