Although there are already a substantial number of quantum computers
these are installations made by and for research facilities
Several development steps will have to be mastered before scaling to powerful quantum computers and industrialization of the technology
This includes the precise electronic manipulation of hundreds and thousands of qubits
Among other things the team in Oberhaching is developing optical detectors for reading out the quantum states of the ions
Here the colleagues work together closely with the Infineon quantum laboratory in Villach
The new lab will also pursue synergies with the colleagues in Dresden and Regensburg who conduct research on silicon and superconductor qubits
the laboratory will use Artificial Intelligence to simulate and better predict the aging and failure characteristics of microelectronics in the Power sector
This calls not only for the development of the necessary algorithms; much more
practical measurements will have to establish the data basis for training neural networks and verifying their behavior
This will help better estimate the service life of power converters and will aid in detection of anomalies
These insights are important for effective proactive maintenance
which is ultimately to prevent equipment failure and thus optimize periods of use

Six teenagers have been reprimanded for spending the thousands of euros they found at a train station on jewelry and clothes instead of handing it over to the police
the capital of the southern Free State of Bavaria
said that a 13-year-old boy discovered €14,900 ($16,000) in cash at a municipal railway station in Oberhaching
a small town located 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Munich
The money belonged to a 62-year-old from nearby Sauerlach who had put it in an envelope that he stored in his briefcase
When he realized that he had forgotten his bag at the station
the man rushed back but it was already gone
The teenager who had found it decided not to inform the police
and the group - three boys and three girls under 14 - went on a two-week shopping spree
trips to the bowling alley and an electric scooter
The teens only confessed after their suspicious parents demanded to know how they had been able to pay for their spending spree
The furious parents informed local police who were quickly able to find the rightful owner
Munich Police spokeswoman Sina Dietsch said the families had been able to return most of the acquired products
She added that they only had to find around €2,000 ($2,100) to fully compensate the victim
It has not been revealed whether the teenage offenders' parents decided to punish them for their actions
Local authorities cannot press any charges against them due to their age
The Sauerlach resident reportedly did not expect to ever see his money again as two weeks had passed since he informed police about having lost it at the station
Dietsch said: "The teenagers might not face charges over what they did
But we will summon them for a conversation
The municipality of Oberhaching is home to nearly 14,000 people

In the quarter-finals, Stewart played France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, ranked 198 in the world. However, it was not to be as Stewart was edged out in an incredibly tight 6-7 6-7 loss to the eventual champion.
Stewart is back in action this week on home soil at the Lexus Glasgow Challenger, where he has made the most of his wildcard into a main draw by upsetting top seed Calvin Hemery. The main draw also features Aidan McHugh and Charlie Robertson.

Zurich: Millions of children around the world are involved in football, almost all of whom follow a favourite team. Many children play in organised matches or kick-abouts and some also take an early interest in coaching and refereeing.
However they may be involved in the game, what these children all have in common is the right to enjoy football in a safe environment and a culture of respect and understanding.
With this firmly in mind, today FIFA launched a new dedicated programme and toolkit – FIFA Guardians™ – designed to enhance child safeguarding standards within football.
