The Hoyngs landed in Baltimore in September 1834 and later made their way to Egypt the statistics are 151 passengers - 77 men 49 women (and) the rest were children," he said 114 of the 151 passengers were from Oldenburg; 68 would settle in the Ohio Münsterland "So I sort of look to the Everhard as the Oldenburg Mayflower since it was one of the ships that brought over … a large number of people who came to the area," Hoying said "There's a couple others that have almost just as many." came to the area on the Phoenix by himself in 1883 established a store and married Maria Angela Drees was the provincial of the Missioners of the Precious Blood for 18 years and her sister Maria Gertrud Drees Waschefort was one of the founders of Teutopolis and she was a sister to Franz Heinrich Moormann at St whom all the Moormanns come from," Hoying said which Hoying calls "the Mayflower of the Ohio Münsterland." The Bark Everhard was a barge converted into a passenger vessel to bring the emigrants to the United States of America It was one of the better ships to sail out of Bremen but still not that much different from ships involved in the slave trade "The most dangerous part of immigration was the trip on the boat," he noted "They took a regular ship that was used for cargo they took the hold (or bottom) and they put a floor in it then that water was thrown up between the cracks and of course the water didn't smell too good." The ship's supply of food and potable water was limited "Each person got a certain amount of water a day that they had to use for washing and cleaning and cooking And so the water got brackish," Hoying said and so they would make soup and other things so they had to rely upon the ship's cook for their meals." Storms could last for several days on the high seas and because not many lanterns were permitted on the ship due to the high risk of fires the passengers were essentially locked up in the hold amid darkness and sordid conditions for several days the water went into the hold and got everybody's bedding and clothing wet," Hoying pointed out Ships leaving Bremen like the Bark Everhard could be thrown off course by high winds They ended up having to go around Scotland and Ireland and so you get into the North Sea and that's much stormier and it's colder." he said and then they would get down to the Azores and then head on over." Ships carrying emigrants from Oldenburg would arrive at either Baltimore "New Orleans was not necessarily one that they chose because if they got into a storm and they got off course they would have to go south and go up through the Caribbean to New Orleans," he explained The trips would take between three to five months The Oldenburg people who arrived in Baltimore would normally travel by train to Fredericksburg or Philadelphia single journeyers caught a ride on stagecoaches and families crammed into Conestoga wagons "It took about 17-18 days to go across Pennsylvania and then they got to either Pittsburgh or Wheeling and from there they took generally a steamship on the Ohio River to Cincinnati," Hoying said "From Cincinnati they took the canal up to Dayton and then later to Piqua and from Dayton they took an ox cart to Minster." The passage from New York and New Orleans was a little bit different "Sometimes they would go from New York to the Erie Canal to one of the ports of Lake Erie and then go over to Cleveland and then take one of the other canals down," Hoying said you would go up through the Mississippi River and Ohio River In addition to Minster in Jackson Township the Oldenburg immigrants settled Fort Loramie in McLean Township "They have the same culture and everything and it still holds true in a way," he said Friedrich Rese celebrated the first Mass in the settlement now known as Minster officially ushering in Catholicism in west central Ohio served by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood is considered the mother church that other area parishes trace back to The Land of the Cross Tipped Churches highlighting the roots of Catholicism in the area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 The tourist attraction includes dozens of churches as well as cemeteries and other sites across Mercer Visit landofthecrosstippedchurches.com to learn more about these sites and the people who established the communities around them A page from an accounting book of Carl Heinrich Diekmann who started a general store in Minster just after arriving from Oldenburg in Germany Waste heat redirected to university buildings and swimming pool This article originally appeared on our sister site datacenterdynamics.com. Read more from DCD The University of Oldenburg in Germany is reusing the waste heat from its data center for its faculty buildings and university swimming pool The move is part of a project dubbed WärmewendeNordwest (Heat Transition Northwest) which is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research Several cooling and heating systems are currently being deployed at the university which are hoped to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions The first such measure is a heat recovery system for the University's high-performance computing (HPC) cluster that was installed in 2023 “The servers of the cluster are cooled using water because modern processors have such an enormous power density,” said Meik Möllers the university's head of facilities management The water leaves the HPC cluster at around 113°F (45°C) which is then heated to 167 °F (75 °C) and then fed into the university's heating network The heated water then supplements the Haarentor campus including buildings A1 to A15 “Because the heat from the data center is available all year round it can also be used to heat the university swimming pool It is estimated that the system will supply around 500,000 kWh of heat per year translating to a reduction of at least 100 tons of CO2 The servers in the data center that aren't used for HPC are air-cooled using a highly efficient compression refrigeration system which means the facility already fulfills the German Energy Efficiency Act requirements This act came into force at the end of 2023 and sets energy efficiency standards for data centers that go into operation from 2026 onward the university invested €2.5 million ($2.72m) into upgrading the heating and cooling systems with an additional €300,000 ($326,000) in project funds the university will also modernize its ventilation system to include heat recovery and will place an absorption chiller at the heat and power plant of its Wechloy campus Data center operator Equinix has recently announced that it is launching a district heating program and looking for partners - including planning agencies and heat network operators globally to join SDx Central, 32-38 Saffron Hill, London, EC1N 8FHEmail. The 27-year-old officer was suspended from duty over the shooting early on Sunday morning in the city of Oldenburg in north-west Germany pending a murder investigation, said state prosecutors. Fatal police shootings are relatively rare in Germany and prosecutors were quoted in local media as saying the suspension and investigation were “routine”. Police have not identified the victim due to data protection laws but media and pressure groups have identified him as Lorenz A. Police said in a statement that the man, a German citizen, aimed pepper spray at security staff outside the club after they refused him entry, hurting four people, and that he threatened others with a knife while running away. When a patrol car tracked him down, police said he again used the pepper spray and approached the 27-year-old officer in a threatening manner. The police officer then opened fire. A coroner’s report found that at least three bullets hit the man from behind: in the back of his head, torso and hip, local prosecutors said. A fourth shot is believed to have grazed his upper thigh. He later died in hospital. The state interior minister, Daniela Behrens, said the autopsy results raised “serious questions and grave suspicions” that must be “unsparingly addressed and resolved”. Police representatives warned against any rush to judgment. “There are racism accusations because the deceased was a person of colour,” Kevin Komolka, the state chair of the GdP police union, told the public broadcaster NDR. “There’s a mood developing painting police as trigger-happy hooligans.” Prosecutors have begun evaluating security camera footage and audio recordings from the scene and said there was no indication that Lorenz A had threatened police with the knife he had with him. The officers’ body cameras were reportedly turned off. Rights groups, which have organised a rally in Oldenburg on Friday, said the shooting raised serious concerns. The German chapter of Amnesty International said the killing “impacts an entire community and all those people in Germany affected by racism”. It said any investigation into the incident led by police would be biased. “We finally need independent investigation mechanisms that are not controlled by police or interior affairs authorities,” it said, citing “structural racism”. The Black People in Germany Initiative (ISD) quoted friends and the family of Lorenz, calling him a keen basketball player and a “fun-loving person who was full of energy”. “Now he’s dead, killed by an institution that is supposed to protect us,” it said in a statement, joining the call for an independent investigation as well as a national complaints office for allegations of police racism. The ‪Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which campaigns against extremism and racism in German society, also denounced what it said was not an isolated incident and questioned the police account that the officer had grounds to fear for his life. Similar vigils have been called in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Vienna. Remarkably Oldenburg became the only society brave and ethical enough to push back its licensing by two months while the other major German breed societies moved theirs by a few weeks In The Netherlands and Denmark the annual licensing takes place in February and March allowing the stallions more time to grow and develop before turning three years of age The Oldenburg society has hosted its main licensing this year mid January 2025 but has also schedule the next licensing for November the same year „After careful consideration regarding the optimal promotion and evaluation of our stallions the Oldenburg main licensing will once again take place in November in the future," Oldenburg's breeding director Peer Eitenmüller told Eurodressage our competitors have not been willing to follow this step and move their licensing dates to January or February numerous Oldenburg stallions have already been presented at other licensing events in the fall Our experience shows that a later licensing date does not automatically mean an improvement for the stallions The stallions are trained at the same time as those being prepared for earlier licensings the pressure increases as the stallions are immediately started under saddle and then put into breeding service." "scientific studies also support the finding that older horses are not necessarily less susceptible to stress than younger stallions at the start of training We believe it is much more important to consider the individual developmental stage of the stallions as an admission criterion rather than adhering to rigid age requirements particularly youthful-looking stallions always have the option to participate in the saddle licensing in April the association offers a flexible and horse-friendly solution that takes different stages of development into account.” Photo © Tanja Becker / Equitaris A big 1st inning for Lawrenceburg set the tone for their game against Oldenburg The game turned into quite the pitchers duel after that first as there were only 2 runs scored in the final six innings but we had 2 errors in the first inning that cost us ” – OA Head Coach Patrick Kolks The German Oldenburg Verband (GOV) has decided to create the label "Elite Stallion" also for its breeding society so far only the Trakehner Verband works with this Elite label They need to be highly ranked on the Breeding Value Index and have OLD registered offspring Some of the offspring needs to have been presented to the Oldenburg inspection committee at official appointments at the age of 2.5 years and older so that linear descriptions of the offspring are made a certain percentage of the offspring must also be active in sport at S-level and a certain number of offspring must have successes at Intermediaire II or higher Deputy breeding directory Inge Workel told Eurodressage that "the focus nowadays is a lot on young stallions in dressage and in the end we want to produce sport horses we want to point out the stallions that are still active in breeding and have proven to produce sport horses We took percentages and not only number of offspring to also correct for stallions that covered a lot.” were proclaimed Elite stallion at the 2025 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta on 19 January 2025 Several of them were presented under saddle or in hand during the gala show. as it was originally purchased by Matt’s father George transitioned into zoo ownership to pursue his love for animals managing the zoo’s operations and its expansive collection of over 1,000 animals spanning 150 species. Never dreaming he would run the zoo running a zoo is a field of study that you learn on the job one of the few privately owned and accredited zoos in the U.S. is known for its education and memory-making opportunities and unique animals like golden-striped Bengal tigers the zoo welcmes over 150,000 visitors annually. Zoosiana is open 9 to 5 daily and getting to that stage where it can become a legacy for our local families and visitors alike “The children who have visited Zoosiana through the years bring their own children and maybe their grandchildren Perhaps taking a family photo by the same live oak tree that they took a photo in front of 20 or 30 years earlier I think that’s a very special attribute It adds to our efforts to connect the community with the zoo Ownership has never been front of mind for us We believe that we are the stewards of the zoo and of the animals on behalf of Acadiana’s children Everything we do there is for the children to be an education-based program and make an opportunity to create a lifelong memory of connecting you with an animal on some level.” “There was no life plan to land at the zoo I was excited about the zoo from day one with dad But I think very quickly I realized that if I could pick one thing in life I would probably pick what I am doing at the zoo.” The zoo is busiest in the springtime and in the comfortable October season “With a thousand animals to care for each day “We go through quite a bit of food and fruits and veggies from the same vendors that restaurants and cafeterias here in Lafayette order from So it’s fresh produce and fresh vegetables of of a quality that you would be happy to have on your own dinner plate.” “We’ve got an animal care team who do a phenomenal job of providing the daily care and maintenance Enrichment is a very big part of what we do We want to make sure our animals have a stimulating environment that they’re able to utilize and practice their natural behaviors It could be leaping from one perch to the next or figuring out a puzzle feeder of some kind Zoosiana has particular meal plans for their various animals and a recipe book for the different meals that lists everything that the animals can have and cannot have you can imagine the varying diets from species to species “It’s thousands of pounds of food a week We’ve got raw meat for the carnivores any type of hay or grain that you can think of we probably have at the zoo.” Giraffes are very popular and the tallest land animal and their head weighs approximately 150 pounds when fully grown but they’re elongated so as to hold and manage the head that which is big as a human torso Their heads hold two eyes that have incredible eyesight and Matt explained “The shorter animals out on the Savanna in the wild will typically evacuate in whatever direction the giraffes are evacuating because the giraffes can spot danger coming from a bit further away than the shorter animals can detect They’re known as being gentle giants For a long time it was thought that they did not vocalize at all but there’s been some research now that they do but at a sound frequency that human ears cannot pick up on.” Giraffes are beautiful and the males and females feed differently to prevent interspecies competition Typically a female giraffe will give birth while standing and the calf will fall about six feet to the ground The mom expects the baby to stand very quickly because a predator is not going to wait for the baby to run away “She’ll probably push baby down a couple of times So the baby learns how to get back up,” Matt says Zoosiana is fortunate to be an accredited facility and it works in a collaborative effort with other zoos around the nation for the purpose of breeding Zoosiana may have a vibrant animal of a particular species that they would like to pair up with and they can work with a number of other zoos who might have the opposite situation The relationships are intended to benefit the species and in partnership with other zoos so animals do not need to be purchased The Oldenburgs have maintained a very humble practical approach to their zoological facility You walk in and you’re under the canopy of century-old live oak trees and bamboo forests that shoot up 30 and 40 feet into the air One of the first habitats you encounter is their cheetah habitat Matt believes they may be the only cheetahs in the state In Zoosiana’ efforts to connect the zoo with the local community they felt it was important to ask the community to help name the cheetahs The public chose to name the cheetahs after the beloved Golden Girls: Dorothy The three are sisters and approximately two years old Zoosiana brought in two pygmy hippos about a month ago which are small for hippos but still about six hundred pounds each Bella and Noche came from South Florida and Arizona Bella is in charge and Matt says from a physical standpoint “Noche is stronger physically; Bella is a bit stronger from a mental standpoint Other animals at Zoosiana include three different species of lemurs gibbons (smallest of the apes but biggest primate at the zoo Most primates cannot swim so they live the island life at the zoo They won’t attempt to cross the water because even if they learned the process of swimming their body mass is too dense and they would sink The primates know that instinctly and will not attempt to cross any water deeper than a couple of inches They’ve got full access to the trees and do their beautiful hooping calls each morning and evening to the other islands at the zoo Train rides offer a 3/8 mile adventure out to the zoo’s safari pasture where you can see free ranging blackbuck and waterbuck There is also a strong botanical to the Zoosiana property including the oak trees and one of them is estimated to be 350 years old “It’s a labor of love keeping up the zoo We’ve got the most incredible people who work at the zoo From animal care to maintenance to guest services and a number of odds and ends positions around the zoo but I believe we’re among some of the luckiest people in the world to work at the zoo What a great place to spend your time outside We’re in the presence of animals and we are working to connect our visitors with those animals That’s a great way to spend your time.” The animals are a lot smarter than most people think and they’ll lay back and assess the situation and are very cautious They take their time building comfort and won’t rush into anything without getting acclimated with the situation If you spend enough time with any one animal you’ll find a reason to love that animal.” The admission rate at Zoosiana for adults is $19.99 and children, $14.99. Loren Oldenburg The Viroqua Republican works the same farmland his parents and grandparents did Voters in Southwestern Wisconsin will elect a 96th State Assembly representative on Nov Incumbent Oldenburg has been in office for six years But this is the first election held since district lines were redrawn and approved by the Republican-controlled State Legislature and Democratic Gov Challenging Oldenberg in the upcoming election is former La Crosse County Supervisor Tara Johnson, a Democrat. Oldenburg spoke with WPR’s Ezra Wall on “Morning Edition.” WPR also interviewed Johnson This interview has been edited for brevity and clarity EW: What are your top legislative priorities for the district I’ve been in the State Assembly for six years Looking forward to continuing to serve the people you throw away the “R” or the “D” behind your name So every situation and every circumstance that comes up I address it on an individual basis and go from there which has been in my family for almost 150 years EW: What are your plans to ensure schools are adequately funded and staffed LO: This last budget we put $1 billion more money into K-12 education We have to continue to fund schools where they need to be I think something that schools are really struggling with is the decline in enrollment That’s roughly a $1 million impact to state aid funds in their budget And so all schools throughout my district — rural districts bigger districts — are struggling to keep their enrollments up we have to address those issues and figure out how we can help out the school boards and the school districts to move forward and be able to teach those kids EW: A recent report indicates that Wisconsin could benefit significantly from expanding Medicaid coverage for the working poor but it seems like there’s not a lot of stomach in my caucus to move forward But that extra billion dollars or whatever it is I’d like to see it put in reimbursement rates for hospitals will that make our private insurance premiums come down if we’re just giving them more money and the hospitals are taking it I don’t believe that’s a good use of the money EW: What changes or updates to Wisconsin’s abortion law do you support LO: As you know, this spring or whenever it came through, I supported putting a referendum to the people with exceptions of rape life of the mother — it would allow abortions up to 14 weeks I truly believe a referendum is the correct way to go about this put maybe two or three different questions for people to really have a good chance to weigh in on what they want it would be hard to get the governor and the legislators all on the same page to get a referendum to the people so they can actually vote on it EW: How do you plan to balance economic development with environmental preservation particularly regarding water quality and land use maybe there’s a misconception out there keeping them on the land instead of washing down into the creek That’s why my farmland preservation bill that actually got passed will give tax credits to these farm farmers or landowners to actually implement good farming practices in Vernon County or even up here in La Crosse a lot of urban sprawl that’s really affecting or taking away farmland I don’t see to the level where it would be detrimental to the farming community But every situation is going to have to be looked at so that it does not hurt the water or the land Because there’s only one land that we have; we can’t make any more of it Loren Oldenburg faces Tara Johnson in the election on Nov.5. The winner will represent the 96th District in the State Assembly. expresses Eurodressage's' eye-witness account and opinion of the licensing Eurodressage was not present for the hard surface phase The handsome La Paix (by La Vie x Sir Donnerhall I) was named champion of the 2025 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta The bright chestnut led a field of nine premium stallions and 16 further licensed colts of a collection of 45 presented stallions The licensing committee included Peer Eitenmüller This year's collection of colts stood out by the high overall quality but offering quite a variety in types of stallions: from the graceful gazelles to the clunky tanks There was a little bit of everything for any type of mare the German Oldenburg Verband (GOV) welcomed dressage breeders trainers and horse lovers back to its brand new renovated Oldenburg Horse Center where the indoor arena had been totally revamped The seating on one long side was dedicated to VIP tables and seat and the excessive advertisement on one short side was removed from the wall to give a cleaner The new lighting installed on the ceiling was a hallelujah present as the arena now appeared bright instead of spectators having to gaze into darkness The GOV pulled out all the stops to deliver a cosy and familiar atmosphere yet a professional and calm setting for the young colts to be presented The stand-out colt of the 2022 born crop was without a doubt La Paix a chestnut by La Vie out of elite mare Rioja (by Sir Donnerhall x Rubinstein x Democraat) Bred by Katharina Paschertz and owned by Helgstrand Dressage the colt moved very consistently on all three days of the licensing and presented  a complete package collected and moved with great overview and confidence in the arena He is quite long in the back and maybe a bit flat in the topline but had a beautiful face The walk had plenty of overtrack but at times lost a bit of the rhythm If he was given the space to march forward he had a very good walk Breeder Katharina Paschertz told Eurodressage that she named him "La Paix" (The Peace) because he was born just days after the war broke out in Ukraine and she was wishing for immediate peace something which unfortunately has not happened two and a half years later with Russia continuing its charge  Paschertz sold half ownership of the colt to Johannes Westendarp when La Paix was a foal and he was reared and prepared for the licensing at Hof Westendarp Right before the pre-selection full ownership sold to Andreas Helgstrand who often collaborates with Westendarp The stallion was not for sale at the licensing The deserved reserve champion was the very sporty a black colt by (Blue Hors) Kingston JZ (who is by Toto Jr x Turbo Magic) and out of Revanche (by Don Olymbrio L out of 2007 Oldenburg elite mare champion Rebelle (by Don Schufro x Regazzoni)) Kolton (by Kingston x Don Olymbrio L) (Photo © Kiki Beelitz)The black stallion trotted impressively on the lunge line with much lightfootedness and good engagement from behind Also in canter he remained engaged from behind with a strong hindleg In freedom his trot showed much cadence and a quick hindleg On the final day the walk lost a bit of march but that can be forgiven considering the tiring process of licensing for these young stallions Kolton is bred at Blue Hors stud in Denmark and sold in 2024 in the Blue Hors' horse stock clearance sale as a rising 2-year old for 28,000 euro to Ib Berger who later sold a co-share to stallion keeper Mathieu Beckmann Kolton became the price highlight of the auction selling for 300,000 euro to Polish investor Kamil Iwicki Together with his wife Alexandra Owerko-Iwicka they are building their own stable near Warsaw and are closely connected to Polish Grand Prix rider Ilona Janas The couple already bought the 2024 Oldenburg reserve licensing chapion Esquire (by Escolar x Furst Heinrich) for 400,000 euro at last year's licensing and put this bay stallion in training with Eva Möller at Helgstrand Germany Kolton will be available through Ingo Pape's stallion station The third ranked premium stallion was Total Valencio S a liver chestnut Total Diamond PS out of Valencia S (by Vitalis x Rosario x Dream of Glory) Total Valencio STotal Valencio is a chunky boy with a lot of body mass He trotted strongly on the lunge line with a powerful hindleg for his age In canter he got tense in the topline on the lunge In freedom he continued to impress with much cadence in trot He easily changed leads in canter and also walking in hand he produced a very good walk He always displayed a nice temperament throughout the three days He sold for 160,000 euro to the Swiss owned and German based stallion station Gut Schönweide The offspring of Total Diamond PS probably made the biggest impression this year as he had three colts selected The second premium Total Diamond offspring got fourth ranked in the premium ring He is out of Dakati (by De Niro x Sevillano xx x Andiamo) pulling the hocks high and putting them under but can he also shorten and carry from behind The right hind hoof/pastern twisted out to the right in walk Bred by Gerd Pigge and owned by Swede Johan Ifverson in partnership with stallion rearer Arndt Schwierking the bay sold for 120,000 euro at auction to Italy The third Total Diamond was out of a Vivaldi x Florestan dam bred by Christiane and Wilhelm Benning and was owned by Sönke Rothenberger His basic gaits were good but he was a clunky He wasn't licensed and fetched 17,000 euro at auction The licensing committee forgot to put their big boy's pants on because they refrained from further ranking the other six premium stallions but all proclaimed them "fourth premium," a ridiculous concept in line with "everybody's a winner." No they are not This unfortunate trend seems to have have blown over from other studbooks In Westfalia they name a handful of colts reserve champion (insert eye-roll emoji) purely for marketing reasons and in Hanover they just equally rank all premium stallions (insert face palm emoji) Fiorissimo (by For Romance x Diamond Hit)Two further chestnuts stood out in the premium ring: Fiorissimo and It's Me, both foal auction price highlights at the 2022 Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction. Fiorissimo is by For Romance out of Diamond Lady (by Diamond Hit x Landadel) He is bred by Rolf-Peter Schulze and owned by Canadian entrepreneur and dressage rider Vicky Lavoie The liver chestnut is a very pretty chap with a lot of presence always observing his surroundings with confidence He impressed with his very elastic trot in which he always maintained a good cadence and nice expression He moved with power and in freedom he preferred the trot over the canter His hind hooves did go a little wide in trot His walk was good with much overstep and a clear V-moment in the rhythm  Fiorissimo was not for sale and will continue his dressage training with German based Swede Jessica Lynn Thomas It's Me (by Ibiza out of elite mare Elfenperle (by De Niro x Florencio x Sion) is bred by Ewald Grotelueschen and bought at auction by Danish Lone Boegh Henriksen for 154,000 euro who agreed to share ownership with Paul Schockemöhle and Andreas Helgstrand The bright chestnut had a lot of people clapping because he trotted with so much presence but he mainly pulled his feet hocks and knees up high and showed not that much stretch forward often losing the rhythm and becoming lateral In canter there was much power and you heard him pounding the ground with each stride  The stallion did have a lot of expression and self carriage The licensing committee considered him premium The stallion has been renamed Independent by the Schockemohle team Secret x BenaggioThree further stallions were considered premium of which the best one was the beautiful black Secret out of Bellissima (by Benaggio x De Niro x Rosenkavalier) He is bred by Caterina Schulz-Beelitz and is out of the famous Herbert De Baey damline that produced Rembrandt  This elegant horse was very lightfooted with a lovely frontleg and good walk He appeared a little soft in the hind pasterns and in canter got a bit tense and staccato in the strides but his walk was very good and overall he was a great mover and delightful horse of the finer type this stallion shared the highest auction hammer price of 300,000 euro with Kolton and sold to Lovsta Stuteri in Sweden The bay colt Rock Art (by Raven out of Henriettenhof's Violetta (by Furstenball x Sunny-Boy x Sion) is a very sympathetic looking stallion active in trot and uphill striding in canter Overall he could be a bit stronger and engaged from behind but he is a functional mover with a seemingly good temperament/rideability but in freedom he struggled with the rhythm at times he is owned by Eugene Reesink and would be interesting to see how Dinja van Liere will develop him for sport Fynch Hatton x CharmeurThe ninth premium stallion and the sixth "fourth" placed one was the beautiful KWPN registered  Surprise K (by Fynch Hatton out of Lakita-K (by Charmeur x Voice x Metall)) There were four Fynch Hattons in the collection but he made it premium although that was surprising Surprise K is bred by A & J van de Kraats and owned by Quality Stables in The Netherlands Typewise he's handsome with a long neck and appealing face but his hindlegs are more pushing than carrying but "skates" more and should move the hindlegs more towards the point of gravity His canter was quite unbalanced on the lunge line as well as in freedom as he has such big strides There was much overtrack in walk and good rhythm Surprise K sold for 90,000 euro to the state stud Celle Escamillo x BorsalinoSixteen colts also received a positive verdict and are licensed to breed The British bred MSJ Best Secret (by Be Sure x Secret x Totilas x Dicaprio) bred and owned by Emma Blundell at Mount St The bay colt is a nice young stallion with good flexion in his joints He sold for 100,000 euro and moves to VDL Stud in The Netherlands after a bidding duel against Ingo Pape the chestnut Escamillo x Borsalino x Quaterback was a steal Although he was set in very tight side reins (and he was fighting with the contact) during the lunging phase he really moved well with lots of elasticity and a nice hindleg In freedom he moved a bit out behind at times but could really engage and collect well from behind He has quite some knee action in front and the walk was good He sold for 78,000 euro to an online bidder from Switzerland The horse is bred by Tobias Schult and was owned by Andreas Klaassen Flawless (Photo © LL-foto)Another eye catcher that certainly made an impression was Flawless a bay Franklin x Belissimo M x Swarovski colt bred by Peter Rieckmann and owned by Canadian Olympian Camille Carier Bergeron's Les Ecuries Elegance After zero presence at German licensings in general Canada all of a sudden had three stallions approved this year Flawless' trot was extremely elegant with much lightness in the forehand In canter the hindleg came well under the body but he was a bit croup high The owner bought him as a foal through fellow country mate Pia Fortmuller and her partner Lars Busch The British bred Newton Feeling Good (by Furst Jazz out of Anna Ross' international Grand Prix mare Habouche (by Ampere x Sydney x Wolfgang) was also a very interesting sport stallion This very Dutch looking colt had a nice frontquarter and a strong hindleg that should move towards the point of gravity In canter he got croup high and could flex the hocks more He was owned by Diederik van Silfhout and sold for 86,000 euro to Austrian Alessia Weyler Lordswood Bernstein SL x Sir DonnerhallBred by Christine Arns-Krogman and owned by Gestut Schafhof the dark bay Bernstein SL x Sir Donnerhall x Furst Heinrich was a nice horse with a quick hind leg although the right hind swung out a bit The canter had a good three-beat rhythm and he walked well He sold for a bargain price of 35,000 euro to Gunnarlunda in Sweden The Danish warmblood bred Strauss (by So Perfect x Temptation x Sandro Hit), bred by Hertzberg & Kristensen in Denmark, was purchased by Canadian Vicky Lavoie at the 2022 Danish Warmblood Elite Foal Auction for 36,000 euro and she got him licensed in Vechta The stallion had a very nice trot with a strong hindleg that always reached under He could be a bit more connected in the back and overall he did have quite a fiesty attitude on all three days I personally was not so keen on Special Me a KWPN bred For Ferrero x Ampere x Riverman whose neck was thin and who needed to flex more in the hocks He went wide behind in walk but had good overtrack and rhythm He was also not pleased with the situation he was put in and not so compliant while being handled Lone Boegh Henriksen's HP Fantastico (by Foundation x Desperado x Sandro Hit)  did not really show off his full potential and seems to need a little more time to mature but the committee licensed him nonetheless Majestic Taonga x Sir DonnerhallI was not such a fan of Trust Me (by Majestic Taonga x Franklin x Davignon II) but that's probably personal preference The black with his heavy neck and head seemed pleasant enough to handle but he skated with the hindlegs and got wide behind He sold for 92,000 euro to the Celle and Neustadt/Dosse  state studs He is bred by Stefan Tietje and was owned by XT Pferde The black Morrison (by Morricone x Sandro Hit) I thought was a gorgeous "pony": very compact He is bred by Guenter Lueschen and owned by Helgstrand The rather plump and old fashioned Vabenotto (by Va Bene x Goldberg) was also approved Not licensed which I would have considered a great addition to the bloodline was the Danish bred Festival (by Franzé x Solos Carex x Paganini xx x Lavallo) This very interesting bloodline could have been welcome to the Oldenburg "gene pool" Henrik Hansen's black colt was light-footed in trot Jovelier VBSwiss Grand Prix rider Philine Brunner presented Jovelier VB(by Jovian x Lauries Crusador xx x Weltmeyer) who was an interesting horse with good hindleg activity and cadence but he was a bit soft in the loins In freedom he appeared even stronger moving He looked like a horse with a great future in sport He sold for the bargain price of 19,500 euro I was underwhelmed by the KWPN bred Sirius SC (by Kjento x Vivaldi x Burggraaf) He moved in a functional way but that was it Bred by I van Santvoort and owned by Henrik Klatte who seemed to have two small bumps on his hind knees At the auction following the licensing the licensed stallions averaged 95,000 euro while the non-licensed stallions averaged 27,000 euro The licensed Antobello x Gribaldi sold to Gunnarlunda in Sweden for 20,000 euro Special King R&GThe most expensive non-licensed colt was the KWPN bred Special King R&G (by Vitalis x Everdale x Jazz) Bred by Van de Crommenacker and owned by Julie Good and Steve Wolgemuth (USA) the black is a nice type with a quick hindleg in trot but he really pushed the back out and had his neck high up when trotting In canter he was a bit staccato and also in walk he needed to relax more to achieve more overstep He sold for 61,000 euro to Gunnarlunda in Sweden The non-licensed and poorly presented but not so badly moving Ibiza Dream x Floriscount sold for 39,000 euro The liver chestnut with very short back has good gaits but looked totally flustered and unprepared for the licensing Further non licensed colts that sold at auction were the chestnut Valverde x Secret The Furst Jazz x Armani x Trento B sold to Belgium for 22,500 euron while the Fynch Hatton x Furst Romancier x Lafitte sold to Spain for 16,000 euro The Jovian x For Romance x General xx had the lowest bid of 10,000 euro The Quaterback x Dormello sold for 27,000 euro The Total Diamond x Vivaldi x Florestan went for 17,000 euro John bred and German owned bay colt by Vitalis x Totilas x Desperados is a cute sport horse but struggled a bit in canter during the licensing and appeared green and tired The ponyesque Vivaldos x Sir Donnerhall was rather slow behind and weak in the loins but he certainly had a cute expression and was a pretty horse He was very playful in the freedom phase but his trot was not inspired Complete results licensing - auction Photos © Equitaris / OLD Art / Beelitz The 12th Oldenburger Special Edition on December 8 at 2:00 p.m not only enchants
