PATRIZIA Immobilien AG announces that it has taken over the development project for a new student residence in Hamburg
A new building with 141 modern and fully furnished residential units is being built in the district of Othmarschen under the banner ‘Campus Hamburg’
“The demand for student living space in Hamburg – its approximately 100,000 students making it the third-largest university city in Germany after Berlin and Munich – is enormous and outstrips supply,” says Philipp Schaper
“This is an excellent investment opportunity,” he adds
The seller is Kapitalpartner Gruppe; both sides have agreed to keep the selling price confidential
The completion of the ‘Campus Hamburg’ student accommodation is planned for autumn 2018
in time for the start of the winter semester
It has more than 3,000 square metres of living space across nine floors
Each apartment is fully furnished and has a well-equipped kitchenette
The property also has community rooms on each floor and a communal kitchen as well as a roof terrace
Its location on Behringstraße means the property is also well-connected to public transport
Given the persistently strong demand for residential property
student residences are becoming more and more attractive for investors
It was only in February that PATRIZIA acquired a modern
one of the largest university cities in Germany
“In all German university cities there is a clear lack of accommodation for students and this will not change in the coming years
This trend is also increasingly recognised by investors
which is why these properties are often added to their portfolios,” explains Schaper

INNIO and German energy service provider HanseWerk AG say they have begun testing the world’s first 1 MW gas engine to run on 100% hydrogen
The recent initiation of field testing on the converted combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the Othmarschen area of Hamburg marks a decisive step forward in a joint flagship project by INNIO Jenbacher and HanseWerk Natur
This 1-MW pilot plant from INNIO Jenbacher represents the world’s first large-scale gas engine in the 1 MW range that can be operated either with 100% natural gas or with variable hydrogen-natural gas mixtures up to 100% hydrogen
“Our joint project with HanseWerk Natur is a key milestone on the path toward climate neutrality since green hydrogen is an important part of the solution,” said Carlos Lange
“A particularly attractive aspect of our gas engine technology is that existing natural gas engines can also be converted to run on hydrogen
This offers operators security of investment
with the added benefit that the existing infrastructure can not only be utilized in the longer term
but also deployed in a way that is environmentally sound.”
The testing program will evaluate how the plant operates with different hydrogen-natural gas mixtures and is expected to provide important insights for the future operation of similar plants
“By field testing this INNIO CHP plant with up to 100% hydrogen
more flexible and future-orientated energy supply for Hamburg is technically feasible,” said Thomas Baade
technical director of HanseWerk Natur GmbH
The converted CHP plant provides 30 residential buildings
and the Othmarschen Park leisure complex with a reliable supply of local heating that equates to 13 000 MW hours every year
The electricity generated is fed to electric vehicle charging points in Othmarschen’s multi-level parking garage as well as to the local power grid

Construction of a €580M (£524M) noise protection tunnel on the A7 motorway in Hamburg
Germany is set to get underway in April this year after a joint venture of Implenia and Hochtief was appointed this week to carry out the work
The eight year project to build the Altona Tunnel is being procured on behalf of the federal government and 12 federal states by Deutsche Einheit Fernstrassenplanungs und bau
The 2.2km long tunnel will allow the motorway to be enlarged to eight lanes between the Hamburg-Othmarschen and Hamburg-Volkspark junctions
It will close the gap between the A7 expansion projects north and south of the Elbtunnel
Taking the motorway below ground and into tunnel
will reduce noise pollution and ground released on the surface will create space for allotments and parks to reconnect the neighbouring districts of Othmarschen and Bahrenfeld
Implenia head of civil engineering Christian Späth said: “We were able to identify numerous optimisation opportunities during the tendering process
to bring forward parts of the detailed design work and systematically incorporate the results of more than 30 coordination meetings into the project calculations
"This meant we could significantly reduce the project risks for everyone involved and create a good basis for working together for the next eight years until the project reaches a successful conclusion.”

Due to ongoing work on the Elbmarsch elevated road (K20) south of the Elbe Tunnel
the A7 motorway in Germany will undergo another full closure
Extensive diversions have been planned—here are the details
Autobahn GmbH Nord has announced that the A7 will be fully closed in both directions between the HH-Stellingen (26) and HH-Heimfeld (32) junctions from Friday
Slip roads at the junctions HH-Volkspark (27)
and HH-Waltershof (30) will begin closing on Friday
6 December from 9:00 pm and will be shut down gradually
several traffic sign gantries will be lifted and installed
and B205 will be available in both directions and is strongly recommended for through traffic and inter-regional travel:
Large and heavy goods vehicles must take an extended detour
as through traffic on the A7 will not be possible in either direction
The A7 motorway is being widened from six to eight lanes
This requires the installation of new traffic sign gantries along the carriageway
onto which the signs will be mounted later
