After starting the season in the 2nd Bundesliga
the Lilies are now challenged in the national cup competition: SV Darmstadt 98 travels north and meets regional league team Teutonia Ottensen in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg
The game will be played on Sunday afternoon (18.08/3.30pm) in the Millerntor Stadium

The DFB Cup is an outstanding competition that
If you perform well and have a bit of luck
then you can be in the final as an underdog
Just like it was with Kaiserslautern last season
The Millerntor is more than just a football stadium
It is a place full of memories of big games
The Millerntor – this stadium directly on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn – is the home ground of FC St
diversity and social cohesion are lived in this stadium – including tireless efforts against racism and discrimination
A place where football and social commitment go hand in hand
at the press conference before the game: „The fact that Darmstadt didn’t start the season so well certainly plays a role
Just like we didn’t exactly get off to the ideal start and that’s of course also the case
If there’s something about the boys‘ self-confidence
it’s of course exactly the same with Darmstadt
Both teams will have to see how they get on the pitch and start in the first few minutes.“
The sky over the Hanseatic city will probably be cloudy for almost the entire Sunday
Temperatures around 21 degrees celsius are expected
The chance of rain during the Lilies‘ cup game against Teutonia Ottensen is between 20 and 30 percent
The cup game will be broadcast live on TV and in the live stream on the pay channel Sky
Here you have the chance to watch the Lilies in the conference with all other 3.30pm games or in the individual game

Jean actually wanted to open a bar in Paris. As a native Parisian, this was an obvious idea. All the more understandable, as Jean was already a barman in the metropolis's nightlife during his student days. Before realising the bar project, Jean still had two years of work in Germany on his agenda.
The planned two-year stay in Hanover and Hamburg has now turned into nine years in Germany. Life is like that when something comes up.
And so today, Jean is not in Paris at the cocktail shaker but baking crêpes in his shop La Crème de la Crêpe, which he has been running successfully for five years. The restaurant's name leaves little ambiguity about what the programme is here. The concept's core is the French buckwheat delicacies, aka crêpes and galettes.
Jean uses only buckwheat flour, water and a pinch of salt to make them. The flour comes from one of the oldest mills in France. There, the grain is still ground with old millstones. This gives the buckwheat flour an even finer, more prosperous and fuller flavour. The mill with the melodious name Moulin de la Fatigue has been producing its flour since 1870 and is proud of its tradition, craft, and buckwheat flour, which it sells throughout Europe.
The shop is charmingly decorated and scores with French flair. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm, and friendly. The attentive waitress is audibly French, and the speakers play French music from chanson to pop and electro. Outside the door of La Crème de la Crêpe, you can sit on the terrace on warm days or evenings.
The wall is emblazoned with a quote by Marcel Proust from Researches into Lost Time. A la rechereche du temps perdu. Above it hangs a large map of France, clearly showing where which cider comes from.
As a drink to accompany the buckwheat bakery, it is a natural choice in this environment. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, trace elements and minerals, this delicious thirst quencher is characterised by its tart, fruity taste and its colours, which range from light yellow to golden yellow to reddish.
Jean also pays attention to quality and tradition when selecting his ciders. He knows his cider producers personally and has travelled to the growing regions. The ciders on offer range in taste from refreshingly tart to sweetly mild. Of course, the ciders are from Brittany, the classic growing region where the best apples for this drink grow. In addition to the ciders, there is a fine selection of Belgian beers, French wines, apéritifs, digestifs and non-alcoholic beverages.
If you're struggling to choose what to eat and drink, just stick to the dishes of the day and follow Jean's advice. That's how we did it, and we did very well. Our résumé: La Crème de la Crêpe is a place to enjoy French specialities, made and served with love for food, tradition and hospitality. À bientôt!

A strain of treatment-resistant head lice, nicknamed "super lice," have been reported in more than two dozen states, including Florida.
And, as every parent knows, there are few things in life that can get a child sent home from school faster than a case of head lice. Just ask Mandy Ottensen.
“In Northeast Florida, primarily we’re in a — it’s a no-nit-policy world that we live in here," she says.
Ottensen knows because she owns Fresh Heads Lice Removal, a Jacksonville clinic that specializes in getting rid of head lice and their eggs, or nits. She says she’s been hearing about super lice for a while.
“We had people calling us for years saying they’ve been trying new things for weeks and months and they still have lice," she says. "So now we have actual, good, well-funded studies that prove that the bugs have mutated and that the over-the-counter pesticides aren’t working anymore.”
And even though lice can make your head itch like crazy, Ottensen says they won’t make you sick.
“The CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics call head lice a nuisance, not a health issue," she says. "They are just creepy and, you know, icky, but that’s it.”
Ottensen says it’s rare to see a live louse in someone’s hair because the bugs move around. Nits, however, stay put. They look like tiny, dark brown kernels of rice that are stuck to hair shafts.
Her clinic, Fresh Heads, uses an FDA-approved hair dryer-like gadget to dehydrate and kill head lice and their nits. And that includes the super variety as well.

Not only the name has remained. Eike Iken and his partner and restaurant manager Monique Lingg were also able to defend their Michelin star here in the heart of Altona. The new owners and former head chef Boris Kasprik have a friendly relationship, with the latter even personally welcoming some old regulars to the opening in October 2023.
The menu at the new Petit Amour is also still sophisticated, although head chef Iken aims to rejuvenate French opulence with plenty of Nordic simplicity. Pure taste, first-class product quality, and flawless execution - even the three-part amuse bouche of pear sorbet with watercress purée, crusade with peas, and hollowed and minced oyster meat with sea salt foam -give an elegant hint of Iken's signature style.
Sommelier Jessica Uhlmann pours a sparkling and elegant Cuvée Elena from Andres & Mugler, whose salty clarity wonderfully caresses the kitchen greeting. This evening, she not only serves us some fine wines but also demonstrates all kinds of ingenuity when it comes to non-alcoholic accompaniments.
Iken, most recently sous-chef at Votum in Hanover, not only prepares delightful dishes, but his dishes also taste “simply delicious”, as demonstrated by the following feel-good dishes to spoon away.
The ling fish with sauerkraut puree with almost crustacean-like meat tastes similar to a wonderfully buttery housewife's dish in the best sense of the word. Only the execution is, of course, flawless, from the puree gnocchi to the perfectly cooked fish and the crispy panko flakes to the perfectly draped chervil-dressed frisee salad.
We also really like the 2016 Chenin Blanc from the Loire paired with delicious suckling pig cheeks in a deep, hearty broth and all kinds of onion vegetables. Meanwhile, the deep pink onglet and the morels on the next plate shine with sheer product quality and cause a murmur at both our table and the neighbouring tables.
However, there is no better way to live up to aesthetic expectations than in this pink and white dessert dream: rhubarb in different variations complements a white chocolate mousse and once again demonstrates French finesse paired with Nordic understatement. This little love affair in the middle of Ottensen will likely burn for a long time.

A macaron [makaˈʁɔ̃] is a confection made with eggs, sugar and almond powder, commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam sandwiched between two sweet meringue biscuits. - This official definition actually sounds dull once you've tried the wonderful sweets by Jö Makrönchen!
Flavors such as Grazia Pistazia, Cara Mella, Willy Vanilly or Rocco Schoko aren't just good to look at, they practically melt in your mouth. The almond meringue is soft, the filling is creamy – it's a true firework of flavors.
Sibylle Seibert and Oliver Kohtz worked at different advertisement agencies, she as an art director, he as a writer. But there's always been the common wish to create something 'real'. And making macarons wasn't that far-fetched to begin with: Oliver Kohtz, a confectioner's son, was born in Zurich, home of the famous Luxemburgerli.
So in 2012, Seibert and Kohtz, together with Kohtz Senior, decided to open up a small patisserie in the very heart of Ottensen. They named it Jö Makrönchen, as 'jö' is Swiss German for 'sweet', and the trio has been serving the best macarons in town with the utmost love and dedication ever since.
Those who do not live in Hamburg can order their little piles of happiness through Jö's beautifully designed online shop. I will probably be going in more frequently for my regular dose of macarons, and I'll be more than happy to dive into the fragrant world of this patisserie, be surrounded by the lovely pastry chefs and try all their flavors, including caramelized popcorn and passion fruit.

During the day, Ottensen is a quirky creative neighbourhood. But when the sun sets the district between Altona and Othmarschen turns into the city’s romantic nook. The small restaurant on the corner of Brunnenstraße appeals so very dreamy and inviting. It’s a typical turn-of-the-century-building, with a red marquee and a few seats outside. And as you enter, the bar welcomes you with open arms and a beautiful wooden counter adorned with tiny mosaic stones in black and gold.
The restaurant takes about 20 tables, looking very French with only a few centimetres between each other. We got a table by the window, Spanish olive oil from La Rioja and Ibizan sea salt were already waiting for us. The interior is super simple yet tasteful, the orange lamps throw a very cozy light. We decided to go with the 4 course-surprise menu and the recommended one pairings.
We begin with a sea bass carpaccio with Japanese Yuzur-lemon and cucumber, wonderfully fresh especially when paired with Telmo Rodriguez/ soft, fruity Basa. The following pumpkin ravioli filed with goat cheese and Italian mustard fruits were so good, we stopped talking immediately. Sardinian Villa Solais Vermentino has just the right flavors and is still soft enough for it to stage nicely along with the food.
The following chocolate malheur and the cassis sorbet finally convinced us to book another table for the following weekend. With a staff that friendly, a menu that good, wine selected so carefully and all that in an atmosphere so at ease - you have no choice but to return!

The Lilies want to reach the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup for the first time since 1987. But to do that, the Darmstadt team has to overcome the big challenge at Werder Bremen – the six-time DFB Cup winner. On Tuesday evening (December 3rd/8:45pm) both teams will duel in the Weserstadion. We take a look at the most important figures and facts about the game in our Top Facts.
Bayern Munich is the German record cup winner with 20 titles. Behind them in second place is the upcoming Lily opponent. Werder Bremen celebrated six DFB Cup triumphs – with ten final appearances. The Werder team last lifted the golden trophy into the Berlin night sky in 2009. The Green-Whites previously won the cup in 2004, 1999, 1994, 1991 and 1961.
Only Tobias Kempe from the SV Darmstadt 98 squad played for Werder Bremen. The midfielder moved to the Green-Whites‘ youth team in 2006. There he played for the SVW U18 and U19 teams. He then made a total of 48 appearances for Werder’s second team from 2008 to 2010, scoring four goals and eleven assists.
We Lilies – Together for Nature Conservation! This was the motto of the 6th Clean-Up Day organised by SV Darmstadt 98 and the Krombacher Brewery last Sunday (May 4). Because carelessly discarded garbage, waste, and litter pose a major environmental problem, around 90 Lilies fans gathered in front of the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. Together, they set out to keep the Bölle and the surrounding region clean.
A bitter afternoon and defeat for the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team. The young Lilies lost 3-2 to SC 1960 Hanau on matchday 32 of the Lotto Hessenliga. Although the blue and whites demonstrated their ability to stage comebacks twice on Sunday (May 4), they were defeated shortly before the final whistle due to a late goal. You can read the match report here.
A 4 -0 defeat. This decisive result was displayed on the scoreboard at the Merck Stadium after the final whistle. After four consecutive home wins, SV 98 finally suffered a decisive defeat to Hamburger SV on Saturday afternoon (May 3). The decisive factor in the defeat in a largely evenly matched game was two set pieces, which HSV used to score their first two goals. In our analysis, we look back at a match that could have taken a different direction, especially in the opening stages.
No points for SV Darmstadt 98 at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor. The Lilies appeared to be at least on par with the current 2. Bundesliga leaders for much of the match, but conceded goals far too easily. Ultimately, SV 98 suffered a decisive 4-0 defeat against Hamburger SV. We've compiled all the comments from the game for you.
A courageous performance by the Lilies ended without a happy ending: SV 98 had to admit defeat to Hamburger SV 4-0 (1-0) – it was the first defeat after four home wins in a row.

Dear readers, Christmas is not only just around the corner, it's already almost sitting on the sofa. Two days before we meet up with family and friends under Christmas trees hung with tinsel (or in other places and without tinsel). So on the one hand, there's not much time left to get the right presents, but on the other hand, there's still plenty of opportunity to stock up on the most delicious baked goods.
In 2022, how about a contemporary, vegan version of biscuits, cakes, pastries and other baked goods that are just as tasty as the classics? Would you like that? Then head to one of the two Kjeks branches in Hamburg. One of them is in Ottensen, the other in Schanze.
In May 2021, the first Kjeks opened in Schanze; precisely one year later, the Kjeks in Ottensen was launched. Since then, vegan sweet treats have been offered to the esteemed clientele. For upcoming or future festive occasions or to sweeten everyday life.

If your feet need a break from poking around the ‘hood, one mindful option is to settle down for a flat white and homemade carrot cake at In guter Gesellschaft, Hamburg’s first zero-waste café. An urban-chic alternative is Elbgold
a roaster-cum-cafe up the street in the Schanzen-Höfe
a historic cattle market that’s been upcycled into a creative and culinary hub
This sprawling compound also shelters several restaurants
including the famous Bullerei helmed by German celebrity chef Tim Mälzer
A more casual place to wrap up the day is the affiliated Altes Mädchen
The urban-industrial beer hall serves hearty classics from sausages to burgers alongside 60 craft beers
including those concocted at the attached Ratsherrn brewery
Ottensen’s industrial DNA has evolved into a bustling beehive of boho cafes
boutiques and cultural venues while still nurturing its multicultural roots
and instead get lost in the spider web of cobbled side streets
you’re free to stumble upon such greet-the-day favourites as Knuth
bountiful breakfasts (including gluten-free rolls) and smiles for over a decade
An exotic midday option is Restaurant L’Orient, which generates buzz with its sassy next-gen Lebanese fare, including an outstanding mezze (appetizers) sampler and weekday lunch specials. If you’re visiting Ottensen on a Friday, check out the action at the farmer’s market on Spritzenplatz square, which is also where Liebes Bisschen whips up made-with-love cup cakes and tortes

A delicate saltiness, a subtle sweetness and tender, fresh meat - oysters taste like the essence of the sea. Whether with a squeeze of lemon, a spoonful of fresh vinaigrette or simply on their own, Joost Becken and Marco Schnackenberg have been cracking shellfish en masse at Hamburg's weekly markets for five years - and bringing the flavour of the North Sea to the Hanseatic city.
In the meantime, they have made a name for themselves as absolute experts in oysters and seaweed, which they source super fresh from the Dutch Oosterschelde National Park. In order not to jeopardise the wild stocks and the sensitive ecosystem, the guys from the North Sea attach great importance to preserving the seafood and algae exclusively through sustainable fishing methods.
In extensive, natural oyster reefs around the Groningen region, the wild oysters and seasonal seaweed are therefore collected by hand by local fishermen. The nature reserve has excellent water quality, and the seafood quality is correspondingly high.
However, the healthy delicacy tastes particularly good with a cool glass of white wine or sparkling champagne at the weekly market. Freshly cracked by Joost or Marco, of course. The two of them also prepare other mussel dishes such as pan-fried moules marinière and flambéed scallops fresh from their market stall. You can literally smell the sea.
A hand-painted sign marks the entrance to a brand new festival in a town you’ve probably never heard of
and instead of music there are man-made machines
Welcome to Iceland’s very first Nordic Permaculture Festival
a weekend designed to jumpstart a new eco-community with environmental solutions at its core
“The festival was designed to inspire people on how to help the world
and how to become sustainable and independent,” says Mörður Gunnarsson Ottensen
It kicked off a pilot project to create Permavillage in Þorláḱśhöfn
Mörður explains the meaning behind the movement
“Permaculture is a method of preserving the environment whilst becoming self-sufficient,” he says
“A movement of people trying to live in peace with their consciousness.”
“In 2013 I was travelling in Norway promoting a permaculture solution and heard of some eco festival and needed a break,” Mörður recalls
I was convinced they must have been on drugs
But then I noticed I was the only one who was miserable
so I decided I wanted to live that life in Iceland.”
Mörður got in contact with a permaculture teacher—“and talented people”—to organise Iceland’s first permaculture design course
“as Icelanders danced like wild children to the Formidable Vegetable Sound System
and now helps head the Permavillage project
“No one lives at Permavillage quite yet,” he says
“We have leased the land and we’re building an eco centre where we will promote respect and connection with nature.”
with help from environmentally conscious locals and even school kids
volunteers helped to transform the land at the site
and set up micro-climates to grow plants over the next few years,” Mörður adds
International visitors share with each other permaculture solutions to manage environmental problems
while huddled around a list of communal tasks
and I estimate around 70% of the people here aren’t wearing any shoes
Mörður and others aim to share learning so more people can live closer to nature
“We will have formal and informal education,” he says
“We welcome all approaches that are respectful
with our current members ranging from shamans to academic scholars
Our approach to is to create conditions that allow nature to do what she does best—create life
It’s beyond my wildest dreams how well the locals have taken to our work
they have helped us tremendously to make lasting change in this area.”

it’s not every day that they call a woozy-headed journalist
given to prolific and public use of colourful language and in love with his weekly bouts of craziness
to lecture college teachers about communication skills and all that jazz
made that mistake last winter. The professor in-charge
who had called me as a last-minute substitute for a rather senior journalist
did not take long to be horrified after she realised that I had only 26 winters behind me and an abandoned master’s degree as ‘higher qualification’
the talk was more fun than any of us expected it to be
was literally abandoned to a bin as soon as I entered the building and threw away my silly
I simply started out talking about the unintentionally funny mistakes we make every day in the newspaper
From spelling ‘public’ as ‘pubic’ to changing the gender of an officer twice in a sentence to turning Bhagwant Mann into the chief minister of Delhi
the list made the teachers laugh and smirk
in which I was the punching bag representing the entire media fraternity
From hardselling Modi’s lies to adding too much opinion to basic news
the allegations made me feel quite fancy actually
media-bashing is the favourite national pastime
a middle-aged professor — let’s call him Mr HP — dressed in a long coat made of seemingly expensive tweed came up and asked me if I was free for a cup of coffee
and no one can anyway say no to Coffee House at PU’s Student Centre
he started out asking why I wasn’t married when my hair were already turning gray
“but it’s hard to find a properly educated and sufficiently landed boy from our caste”
worrying how the dominant farming community of Punjab was being stereotyped by one of its own
He joked how I must have “at least two” girlfriends and was not interested in telling him
“Waise tusi taan homosexuality de vi baale himeyti lagde ho (You even seem quite supportive of homosexuality)!” he laughed
“Mera hor lokan de bedrooman vich jada interest hai ni ji,” I said
I did not have much of an interest in other people’s bedrooms
But you were speaking in their favour,” he winked
I had cracked a lame joke about the saffron brigade having its khaki shorts in a twist over gay rights
and how it was rather iconic for the shakha variety in particular to be opposing homosexuality
“What’s your opposition to it?” I counter-prodded.“This is not how God meant the human race to be
I cited instances and examples from mythology and history to make a point
Mr HP was busy ordering a cup of coffee instead
This is when I hit upon a slightly mean idea to hit this homophobe where it hurts — the pocket
I urged the five old acquaintances sitting two tables away to come and join us
And I also called up three other journalists who I knew were in the vicinity to come have lunch with us
the table had twelve hungry people eating liberally
Conversation flew from the Iraq war to Rahul Gandhi
Mr HP seemed to have realised what was happening
He said he had a class to take; but the bill was already on the table
around a thousand bucks as opposed to the cheap-coffee gay-bashing that he had planned
this is when he launched into another tirade against homosexuality
suggesting that gay people be forced to have sex with the opposite gender “to know how it’s supposed to be done”
“Do you have anyone in mind for me then?” I asked
Timo Werner was in fine form as Domenico Tedesco's side cruised to an emphatic win in the first round of the German Cup

I love unexpected encounters. While I was headed to a girlfriend's place, I discovered a very distinct concept store in beautiful Ottensen. Far off the bustling city center, THE BOX is hidden in a heritage protected brick building within cobbled Boselhof.
The name of the store has absolutely nothing to do with its size. Various theme areas are combined on more than 500sqm: characteristic vintage furniture, two galleries, a kitchen store and an inviting range of bags, gift items and beauty products as well as a café. Music nights and open readings take place regularly, too.
I was greeted by five big wooden tables upon which lay a good selection of photography books by renowned photographers, artists and musicians, as well as a range of cookbooks. This alone could have me occupied for hours. If it weren't for everything else to see! The one thing that had instantly caught my eye was a turquoise velvet sofa by George Smith from Soho House Berlin.
So many different things on display at THE BOX, yet they all have one thing in common: carefully selected objects that will adorn your home and contribute to your happiness. Those who want, can visit the newly launched web shop too. But let it be known – the trip to Borselstraße will be worth every step.

In May 2021, the Lela ice cream parlour at Eppendorfer Baum 12 in Eppendorf opened its doors for the first time. Since then, the stylish café has been delighting a dedicated fan base with classic as well as numerous vegan ice cream varieties. The pistachio ice cream is particularly popular, thanks to a sweetened "Crema al Pistacchio", tastes deliciously intense like pistachio.
There is a small selection of ice cream sundaes, opulent milkshakes and sumptuous ice chocolates. Café is available hot and cold at Lela in numerous variations, from espresso to caramel macchiato to dark chocolate mocha. Not to mention the heavenly iced coffee. All this is accompanied by ice cream and a fine selection of cakes and energy balls. The New York Cheesecake is particularly popular.
Incidentally, the location itself looks very stylish: Lightly spackled walls, terrazzo floors and white Eames chairs. Not without reason have celebrities like Sylvie Meis been spotted at Lela. If you want to treat friends and family to ice cream at home, there are also large bowls for safely transporting the precious good.

At Mikkels, all my senses come to life. The smell of roasted coffee comes up immediately upon entering. The counter almost bends with all the plates and covers filled with various tiny cakes. Little cheesecakes, almond nonettes, Linzer tarts, brioches or miniature bundts - the selection is tempting and one cake look better than the next!
I chose to go with a scone since Mikkels is one of only three cafés in Hamburg that makes fresh ones from scratch. Delicious! Especially the variation with Bergkäse and chutney. And for dessert I had a little Apple curd cake - it was incredibly good!
I took a seat at one of the five tables and let my eyes wander over the beautiful interior. Mikkels’ style is a little Danish, but not too sweet, a bit of flea market, but not too overdone - above all, it’s authentic. Geli Fuchs, in her second life, is a TV producer and show director and manages programs like Beckmann or the NDR Talkshow. Mikkels was a dream come true.
