Geneva Way — southwest of Cherry Creek Reservoir in the Hills West at Cherry Creek neighborhood — around 8 a.m. on March 30 for reports of shots fired who is still trying to process what happened "Our neighborhood is so close-knit and so quiet It just can't be what that was." We were all shocked And it just seemed like we were talking about something so surreal that that we couldn't even imagine we're living through." Neighbors heard yelling and jumped into action to try to help David Ottersberg was heading to Paxton's house for some plumbing work when he witnessed the altercation "David was coming to my house that morning it just all happened like right as he was driving by And so he witnessed the whole thing," said Paxton "He took it on himself to just really put his own life in jeopardy and he basically did a complete U-turn and went back into the conflict." Ottersberg sprang into action and tried to stop the shooting suspect from getting away He told Denver7 he first noticed something was wrong when he saw the suspect's face was covered "Something drew my eyes to the scene," said Ottersberg I looked back and he had a gun in his hand He stared right at her— he didn’t turn away Ottersberg crashed his van into the suspect's vehicle to try to stop him from getting away "We kinda looked at eachother for a second and I went out the passenger door," he said I knew my time was kind of limited and I escaped." drove away from the scene but didn't get far Lechner was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for superficial injuries he was booked into the Arapahoe County Detention Facility for first-degree murder menacing - aggravated assault with a gun and domestic violence The neighborhood has since come together to try to help Ottersberg "Everyone just rallied around and wanted to help David because he's and all of his equipment was in there," said Paxton.' A GoFundMe online fundraiser was created to help Ottersberg raise funds for his van impound feeds and tools While the neighborhood mourns the loss they've suffered Paxton said it's heartwarming to see bravery in the midst of tragedy "We had no idea one of our neighbors was experiencing something like that it's just a horrible situation," she added An online fundraiser was also created to support Tracy Lechner's children at this time. Megan Squire is deputy director for Data Analytics and OSINT at the Southern Poverty Law Centre, and from 2017 she was one of the first to use Venmo transactions to understand the internal structure of groups like the Proud Boys Squire said: “Venmo has had security issues since its inception. They have tried to fix them but only after high-profile privacy breaches involving people like Joe Biden.” The Oath Keepers transactions were recorded on the profile of Jason Ottersberg man who has been publicly identified as a senior leader in the Oath Keepers email address and a username – “seebeewyo” – were all revealed in a leak of information from the Oath Keepers website in 2021 Ottersberg is also named as the recipient on an Oath Keepers fundraising page on the extremist-friendly fundraising site Givesendgo Ottersberg’s current username on Venmo is based on his name but a scrape of his account with the open-source intelligence tool Venemy shows that his original user name was nationalokvp indicating that he was presenting himself as the Oath Keepers national vice-president The account’s transaction history shows payments to and from Ottersberg along with explanations of the payments an account carrying the name Michael Ray Williams made a payment to Jason Ottersberg on Venmo with the message “OK dues” The account’s avatar is a promotional image for Williams’s political campaign bearing the slogans “Michael Ray Williams Wyoming Senate District 11” and “Giving the power back to the people” In 2022, Michael Ray Williams ran for the Constitution party for the Wyoming state senate, but lost handily to the Republican Larry S Hicks. On the Constitution party’s website and Ballotpedia’s candidate survey he expressed anti-abortion Williams told Buzzfeed News in October 2021 that he was an Oath Keeper but his payment of dues the month before confirms his ongoing links to the group at the time of his election campaign The Guardian contacted Williams for comment via email Others identified by the Guardian hold sensitive positions in business One of those identified is a senior figure at Space Systems Engineering at Echostar Corporation Echostar is also a major government contractor in potentially sensitive areas. Last year, the company announced that its subsidiary Hughes won a contract to create a private 5G network at a US navy base on Whidbey Island in Washington state and the previous year trumpeted its success in bidding for satellite services to the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Advanced Battle Management System project according to US government spending records Current Hughes contracts include supplying satellite services to the Department of Homeland Security The person identified by the Guardian was involved in developing satellite-related technologies including a project to gain limited access to Nasa satellites Another separate payment on 4 October 2021 came from an account of someone who was a DHS employee until June 2021 They had also recently applied for a job in a state department of corrections A third person connected to Stewart Rhodes on Venmo and identified by the Guardian works in US navy recruitment in Texas Venmo records show that other accounts are connected to Stewart Rhodes and Ottersberg A Venmo “friend” connection does not necessarily indicate that the parties have exchanged money but it does indicate that the parties have recorded one another as telephone contacts at least nine people paid Ottersberg or were charged by him on Venmo with comments indicating that the payment was for dues Ottersberg appeared to funnel money onwards to Rhodes including one to an account in the name of Chad Rogers In January 2022, Rhodes was arrested in Plano prosecutors detailed a 10 January 2021 meeting between Rhodes and Jason Alpers a man who Rhodes believed could pass on his plea to Trump to retain the presidency by force if necessary Alpers testified that Rogers was present at the meeting said of the new Oath Keepers revelations that “it’s amazing to me that they’re still using open She added: “They don’t seem to have institutional knowledge about previous things that have happened to other groups Despite Ottersberg’s apparently senior role in the Oath Keepers and his access to key players including Rhodes he has faced no known legal consequences for his membership in the group The last publicly visible payment from his Venmo protesting against Elon Musk’s purge of the US government under President Donald Trump have begun amassing outside Tesla dealerships throughout the country in an attempt to dent the fortunes of the world’s richest man The protesters are trying to escalate a movement targeting Tesla dealerships and vehicles in opposition to Musk's role as the head of the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) where he’s gained access to sensitive data and shuttered entire agencies as he attempts to slash government spending Most of Musk's estimated $340 billion (€314 billion) fortune consists of the stock he holds in the electric vehicle company that he continues to run while also working alongside Trump Earlier protests against Musk and DOGE have been comparatively sporadic but Saturday's action marked the first attempt to surround all 277 Tesla showrooms and service centres in the US in the hopes of deepening a recent decline in the company's sales crowds ranging from a few dozen to hundreds of protesters had flocked to Tesla locations in New Jersey Minnesota and the automaker's home state of Texas Pictures posted on social media accounts showed protesters brandishing signs such as "Honk if you hate Elon" and "Fight the billionaire broligarchy." The Tesla Takedown movement also hopes to rally protestors at more than 230 Tesla locations in other parts of the world Although the turnout in European locations wasn't as large as the crowds in the US About two dozen protesters held signs lambasting Musk outside a Tesla dealership in London as passing cars and trucks tooted horns in support One of the signs displayed at the London protest showed a photo of Musk next to an image of Adolf Hitler making the Nazi salute a gesture Musk was accused of using shortly after Trump’s inauguration in January A person in a tyrannosaurus rex costume held another sign with a picture of Musk's straight-arm gesture that said make people aware of the problems that we're facing," said Cam Whitten an American who attended the London protest Tesla Takedown was organised by a group of supporters that included disillusioned owners of the automaker's vehicles and at least one Democratic Party lawmaker "I'm going to keep screaming in the halls of Congress I just need you all to make sure you all keep screaming in the streets," Crockett said during a Tesla Takedown organising event earlier this month Some people opposed to Musk have gone beyond protests and set the automaker's vehicles on fire and committed other acts of vandalism that US Attorney General Pam Bondi has decried as domestic terrorism Musk indicated he was dumbfounded by the attacks during a company meeting earlier in March saying the vandals should "stop acting psycho." Crockett and other Tesla Takedown supporters have been stressing the importance for Saturday's protests to remain peaceful But police were investigating a fire that destroyed seven Tesla vehicles in northwestern Germany early on Saturday morning It was wasn't immediately clear if the blaze was related to the Tesla Takedown protests A growing number of consumers who bought Tesla vehicles before Musk was appointed to lead DOGE have been looking to sell or trade in their cars while others have slapped on bumper stickers seeking to distance themselves from the billionaire's efforts to prune or shut down government agencies But Musk didn't appear concerned about an extended slump in sales of new Tesla cars in his 20 March address to employees He reassured the workers that the company’s Model Y would remain "the best-selling car on Earth again this year." He also predicted Tesla will have sold more than 10 million cars worldwide by next year "There are times when there are rocky moments but what I am here to tell you is that the future is incredibly bright and exciting," Musk said investors initially saw Musk’s alliance with the president as a positive development for Tesla and its long-running efforts to launch a network of self-driving cars That optimism helped lift Tesla's stock by 70% in the period between Trump's 5 November election and his 20 January inauguration creating an additional $560 billion (€517 billion) in shareholder wealth But virtually all those gains have evaporated amid investor worries about the Tesla backlash Boulder Commons broke ground on the final phase of its mixed-use development on July 19 a leading impact investment firm based in San Francisco and Boulder-based developer Morgan Creek Ventures Boulder Commons is a constellation of four projects including office and multi-family residential strategically located along the Goose Creek bike path at the RTD transportation hub in the Boulder Junction neighborhood we are collaborating with diverse stakeholders to rebuild and revitalize the community at the corner of Pearl and 30th street,” explained Stephen Hohenrieder “By integrating the built environment and renewable energy Net-Zero-aspiring community seeks to connect people to each other the spaces we inhabit and the broader Boulder community.” The final phase of the Boulder Commons development pipeline is an 89,000-square-foot multi-family residential project spread across four buildings located at the corner of Spruce Street and Junction Place will be completed and leasing of the units will begin in the summer of 2024 The Boulder Commons initial construction schedule is highlighted by the following milestones:  The planned multi-family residential buildings designed by Morgan Creek Ventures and Coburn Partners out of Boulder onsite solar power generation and human-centered design and construction to foster an aligned community This final phase of development will provide 83 one- two- and three-bedroom luxury apartment homes and feature amenities including a fourth-floor roof deck with dramatic views of the Flatirons “We’re thrilled to be a part of the vibrant and dynamic Boulder Junction district where we have incorporated exceptional design into our mixed-use development,” said Andy Bush “ With its prime location offering convenient access to bike and nature trails Boulder Commons embraces the essence of Boulder’s flourishing community For more information on the project or to inquire about leasing an office, retail space or residential unit, visit bouldercommons.com.  Michelle Ellis is the principal at Ellis Communications Marketing and a veteran communications professional with more than 20 years of experience in local regional and national public relations programs Michelle was the 2020 President of PRSA Colorado she was named one of Denver’s 2016 top 40 Under 40 business leaders by the Denver Business Journal she was recognized as the 2015 PR Person of the Year and her agency received the 2019 Small Practice Award from PRSA Colorado You must be logged in to post a comment Welcome back to Shop Showcase, where Off Road Xtreme scours the country in search of off-road shops that you ought to know about. In our last installment, we turned the spotlight on Slee Off Road out in Golden Slee’s bread and butter consists of 80 Series Land Cruisers and Project Vlakvart was an interesting take on the traditional Land Cruiser project–and that’s putting it mildly This week, we’re delighted to bring you yet another awesome shop, this time hailing from Phoenix, Arizona. It’s Elite RaceWorks is the fact that for all intents and purposes At the helm is 24-year-old Ryan Ottersberg a self-taught fabricator whose early exposure to the trade left a lasting impression: “I was always hanging out at the shop with my Dad I got more and more interested in the work.” Ottersberg’s specialty is fabricating cages for side-by-sides I was busy building five to six cages a week for side-by-sides,” said Ottersberg “It was only natural that I wanted to [keep building] the things after I graduated high school.” Ottersberg founded Elite RaceWorks three years ago he’s honed his craft to the point that he’s drawn in business for projects outside of side-by-sides a Class 6100 sand truck that he built in just under five months It started with a client’s request for a “true front-engine sand truck,” one that could fit a family of four and keep them safe and go from the dunes of Glamis to the gauntlet that is the Baja 1000 to serve as a suitable pre-runner “I did all the work by hand on myself,” explained Ottersberg “It was true old school–no AutoCAD all of it hand-drawn on paper and measured by me.” Soon the customer had before him a 1.75-inch chrome moly full-tube caged chassis with box-plated suspension For this and other typical full-custom builds Ottersberg uses an LS3 engine that he can have tuned up to a whopping 550 HP “We’ve run this thing at Glamis it’s probably the best thing you could run out there because it weighs as much as a Corvette and still generates loads of horsepower.” Stopping is a fast too, with six-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors on all fours. And topping it all off is a lightweight Fiberwerx fiberglass Ford body All of the finishing work was completed by Ottersberg’s like-minded fabricator friend Per the client’s request for a four-seater vehicle the truck was fabricated with two bucket seats in front and a 42-inch bench seat in the back The truck has been a great success for Ottersberg and just one example of the fine work the young man is capable of Ottersberg has his sights set on becoming a top builder of Class 6100 and trophy trucks all while continuing to service his bread-and-butter UTV customers “My passion for the off-road industry comes from the love and support that comes from a huge group of people,” he said Off-roaders are a unique group that treats everyone like family.” it brings me a great amount of satisfaction to build quality vehicles that are capable of withstanding the harshest environments in the world and achieving speeds of 120 MPH!” To find out more about Elite RaceWorks and what one-man-army Ottersberg has coming down the pipeline, take a look at the company website Build your own custom newsletter with the content you love from Off Road Xtreme We will safeguard your e-mail and only send content you request We'll send you the most exciting Off Road articles We promise not to use your email address for anything but exclusive updates from the Power Automedia Network Round two of the AMA West Hare Scrambles (WHS) Regional Championship Series couldn’t have been much more different than round one Where the series opener was more twisty yet fast desert-style terrain hosted by the Motorcycle Riders Association at the Lilly Prairie Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area was definitely a woods race with rain in the days before round two transforming the courses into a nearly perfect playground for all classes FMF KTM Factory Off-Road Racing Team’s Taylor Robert proved he’s as fast through the trees as he is in the desert as he claimed his second win in a row by nearly three minutes over 3 Bros./Kilmartin Racing GasGas rider Giacomo Redondi and LiquiMoly Beta’s Zane Roberts Defending series champion Carson City Motorsports KTM rider Austin Serpa claimed the holeshot as the main race got underway admitting to being too conservative on the opening lap since other commitments prevented him from examining the 15-mile course on Saturday That allowed Robert to quickly power past on his Red Bull/Dunlop/Thor-backed 450 XC-F taking full advantage of the woods training in Prescott he and Mason Ottersberg did on Thursday before heading to Oregon “We went up there and diced around in the trees a little bit It was good practice for today,” Robert declared “Today was honestly one of the best racecourses I’ve ever seen We got lucky with the rain [here] this week—the dirt was just perfect!” Describing what ended up being the race-winning pass only a few turns in “There were two lines [in one section] and I took the inside line It ended up working out even easier for me than I [expected] and I was going to have to get kind of aggressive but he kind of slid out on the outside as I snuck around the inside.” it was simply a matter of clicking off the laps as he stormed to a decisive win in two hours The battle for second was more interesting pitting round-one runner-up Roberts against third-place finisher Redondi DC Yamaha’s Clayton Gerstner and Serpa early on Redondi slipped to about sixth when he and Serpa missed a turn Redondi rallied back aboard his FMF/Nitro Mousse/Seven MC 450F “On the fast parts—like on the gravel roads—I pushed very hard and I make it [up to] second.” With his suspension setup still a work in progress he found himself at somewhat of a midrace plateau but concentrated on his breathing which seemed to help fend off his Beta-mounted rival to secure second at the checkers he had also had a midrace issue when he started losing the front end of his FMF/Kenda/Klim 480 RR in corners I don’t know what I was struggling with there,” he said “I don’t know if it was a tire selection thing or what This is much different terrain than what I normally ride; it could be me needing to adjust how I ride I just had to calm down there a little bit towards the end and stop pushing the front so hard into stuff.” But the fun factor of the course took some of the sting out of finishing third After Gerstner reportedly crashed on the last lap while in the top five DC Yamaha teammate Ottersberg not only finished fourth overall but topped the Pro 250s on his Precision Concepts/Kenda/Pure Adrenaline YZ250F after finishing runner-up at round one “Practicing with Taylor [in Prescott] helped for sure,” he said after coming from the second row with the rest of the class and Pro Vet 35+ riders Ottersberg finished about a minute ahead of Serpa who admitted falling a couple times on the fourth lap (of five) 707 Suspension GasGas rider JT Baker finished in just over three hours for sixth overall followed by defending Pro 250 champ Shane Logan and MojoMotoSport KTM-mounted Anthony Ferrante Pros Anson Maloney on his Maloney Training Facility KTM and YZ450FX-mounted Jaden Dahners rounded out the top 10 O’Neal GasGas rider Devin Watson topped the Vet Pro 35+ division this year after putting away early leader Ethan Mutoli and his Yamaha on the white flag lap DC Yamaha’s Dan Capparelli rounded out the podium FMF/RPM Racing KTM’s Kaitlyn Jacobs shook the gremlins that have dogged her so often this year powering to the holeshot and leading from there to take the overall and Pro Women honors on her Dunlop/Motorex/Klim 250 XC-F Full Factory Racing KTM’s Rachel Stout latched onto second right away but couldn’t get close enough to try a pass and 3 Bros./Kilmartin Racing GasGas rider Ava Silvestri rebounded from a bad start to take third Mason Ottersberg and Ava Silvestri put the perfect finishing touches on their seasons by winning their respective Pro classes at the seventh and final round of the AMA West Hare Scrambles (WHS) Regional Championship Series While 3 Bros./Kilmartin Racing GasGas rider Giacomo Redondi had already clinched the overall Pro championship at the previous round and notched his third-straight triumph Ottersberg and Silvestri just needed safe rides to wrap up the Pro 250 and Pro Women titles they put in performances more akin to last-gasp efforts to claim their crowns—Ottersberg by winning and Silvestri taking second at the always popular Lodestar Ranch where the Nor Cal Motorcycle Club held its 69th Annual Wilseyville Hare Scrambles Wilseyville couldn’t have gone much better as he claimed the holeshot for the first time and fended off some early challenges en route to his fourth victory of the season Among the early challengers was FMF KTM Factory Racing Off-road Team’s Taylor Robert making his long-anticipated return to racing after his serious injury in May the winner of the first two rounds conceded that he still has work to do and called it a day “I was super-stoked to take the holeshot and ride my own pace [for] the entire [race],” the Kilmartin Racing GasGas EX 450F rider said Several surprise entries among the 959 riders for the weekend guaranteed Redondi wouldn’t get away easily there was FMF RPM Racing KTM’s Mateo Oliveira Normally seen only at grand prix-style events he decided at the last minute to get more seat time on his RPM Racing Team KTM 450 XC-F as he preps for next year’s assault on the Open Pro division He waited until lap four of the two-and-a-half-hour race to pit which allowed him to get tantalizingly close to Redondi we were battling like [at] a GP,” Redondi laughed it’s difficult to make some passes because of lappers [and the tight trail].” LiquiMoly Beta’s Zane Roberts got off to a rough start aboard his Beta 480 RR I think I went down five times in the first “I don’t know what was going on I was about ready to head in [to the pits] and call it good I wasn’t too far off [at the end] of that first lap—could see Mateo and Taylor out here in the field but those guys were riding awesome the rest of the race For Dallas Chidester (DC) Yamaha’s Ottersberg and his Precision Concepts/Rocket Exhaust/Law Tigers/Pure Adrenaline YZ250F though Team Manager Scott Perkins purposely avoided letting him know he was leading Needing to finish only 16th or better if rival Jaden Dahners won “I’ll be quite honest—I’ve been nervous all weekend I haven’t been in contention for a championship in I can’t tell you how long; Buckeye Arizona for the annual Buckeye Hare Scrambles hosted by club OHV85 at Arizona Cycle Park The course was a half-and-half split between the motocross track and the desert behind the track the racers had mostly prime dirt to race on and a cool breeze to keep body temperatures down the mini and Supermini racers took to the muddy track The Superminis were first off the line in the Fly Racing Mini Series with Chase Haynes taking the early lead with Samuel Campbell and Dominic Craighill closely behind These three would battle across the challenging mud with third-place Campbell taking the lead by lap two and keeping it for one more lap before running into issues and ending his race on lap four That left Craighill and Haynes to battle it out for the rest of the race with Jonathan Kirat taking third place behind them The race would finish with Craighill taking a dominant win over Haynes by six minutes Jenna Janson showed a strong early performance before a technical malfunction ended her race early Ruffin Dodson would take the win in 85cc 12-14 with a third overall with Keegan Hardy taking second and sixth overall and Jeremiah Campbell taking third and eighth overall Jace Vogt and a relatively primed track in the MotoCity Offroad Championship with Open C first off the line and Brian Craze taking the holeshot Kenny Bates would take the lead and hold it for three more laps until half hour until running into lapped traffic” Ottersberg said about his second-place finish “Line choices were important in the beginning I made a few mistakes and the Beta boys were on it!” Ottersberg would win the AAA Insurance Holeshot award and stand on the second spot alongside his girlfriend and supporter while Wasson had his wife and son celebrating the win alongside him with GasGas Support
