Collaborations Events amid the wooded hills of the Bergisches Land Sauerbruch Hutton have developed a new industrial HQ for Gira a manufacturer of building-services devices A central axis connects the four main areas: innovation The mezzanine that has been suspended in the production hall enables communication as well as visual and spatial connections The mezzanine is discernible from the outer facade It acts as a linking element between the production hall and the office spaces above it who are known for their colorful facade solutions have chosen various shades of grey as well as the targeted use of metallic surfaces that provide more light reflection In an interview with the building-services manufacturer Matthias Sauerbruch emphasizes: “Simple volumetry and a recurring rhythm are contrasted by means of changing tonality and varying light effects.” The result is similar to the look of the polychrome facades: a visual play that adds to the modularity of the building volume The structure was deliberately formulated to make a diffident impression against the landscape The inner structure is set up for an ideal flow of goods logistics and shipping take place on one level The production hall is bright: the modular grid of the 60 m² skylights ensures direct daylight while the reflective flooring accentuates this brightness An office area is located on the roof of the production hall the skylights function as atria whose colour system facilitates orientation on the administrative levels some of which are automated to a great degree The result is a space whose technical fittings could make it a suitable setting for a science-fiction film Architecture: Sauerbruch HuttonClient: Gira GiersiepenLocation: Röntgenstraße Project management: Eisenmenger decades-long mystery could soon be solved after a burnt map seems to show the plane made it to its intended target country The Lancaster RA508, dispatched from RAF Metheringham near Lincoln, was one of more than 1,100 planes sent to bomb Dortmund on 12 March This bomber was one of two jets lost on the day and official records have stated for years that it was lost over the North Sea The fate of the war jet's seven crew members and the plane's final resting spot have been unconfirmed but a discovery could soon change things Partially-burnt RAF maps were recovered from a crash site in the small town of Radevormwald He said: “At the height of Cologne/Düsseldorf, the aircraft was most likely hit by flak. “It veered off the approach route on the right while on fire, and crashed into a meadow in Ülfe 2, a district of Radevormwald, and exploded.” This would match eyewitness testimonies that alleged a four-engine plane came down in the town that fateful day. showed a flight path from the UK to Dortmund Brack submitted the maps to the Radevormwald town archives Brack initially assumed this site was the location of the PB187 crash The PB187 actually went down 30 miles away in Duisburg leading Weichert to believe this could be the missing RA508 “The burnt remains of the crew were buried in a wooden box in a bomb crater and then the crater was filled in “Since Bomber Command never searched for the aircraft “And if they were not accidentally excavated over the decades The crash site today is now an industrial estate Weichert has called on the family members of the plane's lost crew for help as one of the maps was annotated by hand He said: “I could compare the handwriting and thus prove the crash site 100%." the nephew of flight sergeant Kenneth Robert Haw described how his aunt tried and failed to catch up with the young airman as he left for his final mission He said: “That was the last a family member saw of him." Other pieces of lost WW2 equipment have recently been discovered The wreck of a British submarine lost over 80 years ago was found in Greece The HMS Trooper was patrolling on a secret mission in the Aegean Sea when it vanished in October 1943 64 crew members were on a patrol mission between Donoussa islet and Ikaria after British intelligence received information the Germans would attempt a new landing possibly in Leros The missing sub was discovered 830ft underwater in the Icarian Sea near the two islands Our journalists strive for accuracy but on occasion we make mistakes.
