Jahn Regensburg suffer relegation from Bundesliga 2 after Cologne drawA 1-1 draw away to promotion chasing Cologne would have otherwise been seen as a good result for Jahn Regensburg
it was the result that ended their one season stay in Bundesliga 2
as they are now eight points behind the relegation play-off spot with two games left of the 2024/25 season

Despite slightly improved form of late, with two wins and two draws from their last six games, Regensburg have now been relegated to the third division followed their share of the spoils against Cologne
Regensburg have spent the majority of the season in the bottom two and will now drop down to the third tier after just one season in Bundesliga 2
Regensburg's form at the Jahnstadion was one positive from an otherwise torrid campaign that saw them collect 14 of their 20 losses by Matchday 32 away from home
One of those away defeats ended 8-3 defeat at the hands of Nuremberg on Matchday 10
as they won just six games by the time of their relegation
Jahn struggled at both ends of the pitch, with their goal against Cologne being just their 20th of the season, while Tim Lemperle's effort that they conceded was the 66th they had have shipped so far

Home » BMW Upgrades Regensburg Plant For Neue Klasse
BMW will get the ball rolling on Neue Klasse production near the end of the year with the second-generation iX3
The first EV will be assembled at the company’s new factory in Debrecen
The i3 sedan will follow in 2026 at the historic plant in Munich
The first long-wheelbase models built in China for the local market are scheduled to arrive next year
the San Luis Potosi site in Mexico will start Neue Klasse production
Although at least six EVs will be made in Spartanburg
BMW hasn’t confirmed these will be part of the Neue Klasse portfolio
only the Regensburg site has been confirmed so far to build NK cars beyond the previously announced factories
the city in eastern Bavaria hosted in 2024 the most prolific factory in the company’s European production network
with volume growing by 43.7% to 342,521 cars
It’s currently gearing up to accommodate the “next model generation.”
It has already expanded the body shop to about 40,000 square meters to get there
Additional structural changes to the factory will be implemented this summer during a five-week downtime at the Regensburg factory
It’s part of a €550-million investment to future-proof the BMW plant
Since the first NK model is still a few years away
BMW isn’t willing to disclose its identity yet
considering that 1,400 units of the X1 and X2 are built daily
perhaps the rumored “NB5” iX1 will be made there
Sources close to BMW claim the next-gen electric crossover is scheduled for production in November 2027
the combustion-engine X1 “U11” is unlikely to be retired so soon
it’s only been around for three years and will get a Life Cycle Impulse later this decade
Logic tells us that only the current iX1 will be discontinued to make way for its Neue Klasse successor
While today’s iX1 can be had with front-wheel drive, this won’t be the case for its replacement. BMW has already announced that its NK electric models will be either rear- or all-wheel drive. This also means that future MINI EVs will employ an RWD layout
Assuming the future iX1 won’t be made in Regensburg, the only other model we can think of is the unconfirmed i1
our money is on the crossover rather than a small hatchback

Germany’s cafe culture is a blend of traditional tastes and practices from neighboring countries better known for their coffee histories
lies in savoring the coffee with friends coupled with delicious pastries
This wasn’t lost on Regensburg resident Hamma Kawa when he opened Leo’s Coffee Bar in January
Hidden among the beautiful cobblestone streets of the city center
Leo’s makes its presence known with the alluring aroma of its products
Approaching the establishment with two friends
I was greeted by an assortment that left me excited
The bakery-style window teased what was inside: shelves lined with goodies that could easily give Crumbl or Insomnia Cookies a run for their money
lactose-free and vegan alternatives to many favorite sweets
I couldn’t resist trying a little bit of everything: a cookies and cream cookie
a cinnamon roll cookie and an apple pie cookie
Kawa threw in the new chocolate lava cake with strawberries for me to try
All were satisfying and I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite
All I can say is I’m grateful to have had others with me so I didn’t have to resist the temptation to keep all the treats for myself
One of its bestsellers — and Kawa’s favorite — is a plate-toppling pistachio cookie
It’s popular and they tend to sell out quickly
The release of new treats and drinks is often featured on the cafe’s Instagram page
while my companions enjoyed a smooth flat white and a refreshing strawberry shake
I sampled the strawberry shake and was pleasantly surprised at its refreshing lightness
which defied my expectations of a thick smoothie-like texture
The espresso and flat white that my friend and I drank were strong and smooth and accompanied the sweets well
The three of us enjoyed a lovely conversation in the outdoor seating area on a mild fall afternoon
with bar seating against a beautifully decorated
“Since there’s a lot of tourists in the city
I wanted to cater to an international taste
“There’s flavors here from around the world.”
Leo’s also offers a variety of savory and salty pastries for those who prefer a less sugary indulgence
One such item is a sugar cookie that Kawa said will debut in late November

Home » BMW Made 100,000 EVs In Regensburg This Year
2024 isn’t quite over yet, but BMW is already celebrating an achievement. This iX1, finished in Blue Bay Lagoon, marks the 100,000th electric vehicle assembled this year at the Regensburg plant
It’s heading to a customer from La Réunion
Before shipping the EV to the island in the Indian Ocean
BMW took a few photos of the milestone vehicle
At the factory in eastern Bavaria, BMW assembles more than 1,400 X1 and X2 crossovers every day. The total production run for 2024 will exceed 330,000 units, a huge jump from last year. In 2023, precisely 238,301 vehicles were produced
The luxury brand says more than a third of cars produced this year were either plug-in hybrids or EVs
Only the X1 combines a gas engine with an electric motor
The swoopy X2 comes strictly as an ICE or EV
At least one more electric car will enter production in Regensburg. BMW has already said it’s investing in the site to accommodate a Neue Klasse model
but it didn’t disclose the model’s identity
it won’t be the iX3 since the crossover will be made at the new factory in Debrecen
It remains to be seen whether the models will be additions to the lineup or replacements for the current iX1 and iX2
The two crossovers share their UKL2 platform with the conventionally powered X1 and X2
If the next-gen models switch to Neue Klasse
they will benefit from a dedicated electric car platform
Reports state that BMW is also planning a true entry-level EV, either an i1 and/or an i2
they’re not part of the first wave of NK-based models coming by 2028
The cheaper EVs are likely to be built at one of the factories in Germany

BMW has opened an additional body shop for its factory in Regensburg
the manufacturer currently produces about 120 car bodies per day
This is because the plant's output is constantly increasing
with more than a third of electrified cars already rolling off the production line there in 2024
The iX1 and iX2 as well as the corresponding two combustion models are currently being built in Regensburg
BMW converted a hall measuring around 40,000 square metres in Neutraubling for the additional new body shop
Around 150 employees currently work in the hall in single-shift operation
four smaller extensions have also been built on an area of just under 1,000 square metres
the Regensburg plant now produces around 120 additional car bodies every day
bodies for the BMW X1 series will in future “no longer be produced solely in the existing body shop in Regensburg
but also in Neutraubling,” BMW wrote
the new body shop was built in less than twelve months
The production hall is actually located on a Preymesser site and BMW was already a tenant of the property
BMW then obtained a change of use so that the dismantling of the previous logistics facilities and the construction of the new body shop could go hand in hand
the first test bodies rolled off the production line in January and the ramp-up of production started at the beginning of March
where they are assembled into finished cars around the clock in three-shift operation,” the car manufacturer explained
The Regensburg plant is also preparing for the production of the Neue Klasse in parallel to the manufacture of current models
During the production interruption at the turn of the year
the plant carried out modifications in the Regensburg body shop (not in Neutraubling)
Further ‘very extensive structural measures’ will follow during a five-week production interruption in the summer of 2025
With an annual production of around 342,500 cars
Regensburg was the BMW Group’s highest-volume vehicle plant in Europe in 2024
It was therefore also more than 100,000 vehicles above its own annual production in 2023
more than a third of the vehicles built in Regensburg in 2024 were electrified
either a plug-in hybrid or a fully electric model

Regensburg offers everything that its larger neighbors in Bavaria do
Avoid the chaos of larger cities at one of southern Germany’s best off-the-beaten-path destinations for Christmas cheer
Regensburg is a city that generally flies under the radar as far as foreign tourists to Germany are concerned
the capital of the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) region is generally tacked on as a day trip from Munich
or as a stop on a Danube River Cruise during summer months
Nearby Munich and Nuremberg are beloved throughout the world for their Christmas Markets
That shows both in the crowds that swamp the markets on weekends and hotel prices to match demand
Having visited all of these markets myself
I find few things more frustrating than waiting thirty minutes to get a glühwein refill or bratwurst on a Saturday night
It has all the Christmas cheer of its larger neighbors in a more relaxed and local atmosphere
The UNESCO-recognized Old City transforms into a winter wonderland starting in late November
Festive lights adorn shops and hang across the narrow pedestrian-only cobblestone streets
The original medieval architecture adds a historic flair to the city as a whole; Regensburg was one of the few German cities to be spared destruction during World War II
The Regensburger Dom (Cathedral) is a Gothic masterpiece seen throughout the Old City
It truly lends a fairy tale-esque aura to the city
especially when lit up by spotlights at night
Regensburg offers four major Christmas Markets for every taste
You can easily visit them all in a casual day of walking:
Located right in the heart of the Old City
this is Regensburg’s oldest and most lively Christmas Market
it has all of the offerings you expect from a Bavarian Christmas Market: mulled wine
confectioners selling gingerbread and roast almonds
so there are plenty of options to find a gift for friends and family back home
The main stage has live entertainment weekly on every Saturday
I have mixed feelings about Christmas Markets that have an entrance fee (Why am I paying good euros for the privilege of shopping and spending more money?)
but the “T&T” market goes about it the right way
The entry fee is fairly low (roughly 10 euro
and once inside you are whisked away to a charming scene out of a Hallmark movie
Thurn und Taxis has around three dozen vendors spread out inside and outside of a beautiful Renaissance palace
and the stalls here offer a variety of boutique culinary delights alongside traditional fair food
there is a small petting zoo for the young (or young at heart)
and a handful of amusement rides for children
This market lies outside the Old City proper but is worth walking for the scenery alone
It is located across the Danube River on Regensburg’s ‘Stadtamhof’ island and offers an impressive panoramic view of the Cathedral
If you are concerned being in an open garden beside the river means you’re exposed to bad weather
worry not – this market has several bonfire pits to keep you warm
they also have nightly party music every day they’re open to help dance the cold away
Looking for a unique gift for someone special
but it has the most eclectic vendors of all the markets in Regensburg
It was started in 1982 by a local association of artists and craftsmen
Shoppers will be delighted by the one-of-a-kind jewelry
Listed separately because it is outside the city center (one kilometer from the Old City)
this small market is oriented towards the young (or young at heart)
Many vendors here sell traditional children’s toys
this is a more relaxed alternative to the four larger Christmas Markets
The city’s biggest landmark remains under partial renovation
but the Cathedral still boasts an impressive interior you can visit
Just a few minutes’ walk away is the ‘Steinerne Brücke’ (Old Stone Bridge)
It was once a major trading route across the Danube but today is a popular spot to stroll or watch street performers
Regensburg has a surprisingly varied restaurant scene thanks to its status as a university town popular with foreign students
It is also one of the best places to enjoy traditional Bavarian food in all its carb-and-fat-loaded glory
Of particular note is the ‘Historiche Wurstkuchel.’ Only a few steps from the Old Stone Bridge
this quaint hut claims to be the oldest continuously operating sausage restaurant in the world
Regensburg can be reached by train (direct express routes to Munich and Nuremberg)
or car (located at the intersection of A3 and A93 Autobahn)
The nearest hubs to fly into are Munich [MUC] and Nuremberg [NUE]

“The innovative strength and dynamism with which the Regensburg plant is implementing the transformation to iFactory together with the entire workforce is impressive,” said Daniel Stengel
a director at Kearney and project manager for the competition
attributed the success to the professionalism and motivation of the team
“Being named ‘Factory of the Year’ by an independent panel of expert judges is both a significant achievement and a source of motivation for us,” Ebner said
emphasizing the team’s commitment to quality and performance
was also noted as a key factor in enhancing productivity
The “Factory of the Year” competition follows a two-stage selection process
where companies first submit a detailed application with key metrics

BMW will transition its in-plant logistics at Regensburg to hydrogen fuel cell technology
powering its tugger trains and forklift trucks
aims to streamline operations and support the company’s carbon-neutral goals by reducing reliance on electric battery systems
BMW Regensburg hydrogen-powered forklift truck
The logistics fleet at the plant comprises about 230 tugger train haulers and forklift trucks
BMW will start using hydrogen-powered tugger trains and forklift trucks for in-plant logistics at its Regensburg assembly plant in Germany from 2026
The carmaker said it is another step toward its iFactory digital and sustainable factory initiative.
all of the equipment used for parts deliveries to production at Regensburg run on electric drivetrains
The batteries used in the industrial trucks need to be changed twice per shift
The transition to hydrogen drives will be completed in stages between 2026 and 2030
“Switching production logistics from electricity to hydrogen will diversify our plant’s energy mix – while optimising logistics processes and saving valuable space,” said project manager Katharina Radtke
“The advantage of hydrogen is that refuelling is very fast – just like with conventional fuels
The filling stations required for this will be installed directly within the different production areas and do not take up much space.”
BMW said it is installing a 2km-long pipeline network
with six decentralised filling stations at the plant
The stations will supply the logistics vehicles with hydrogen across various production areas delivered in special trailers that can also be used for interim storage
our annual hydrogen consumption will be around 150 tonnes,” said Radtke
BMW has been using hydrogen fuel cell trucks to manage parts movements at its Leipzig plant in Germany for more than a decade now
Since 2001 BMW has also been using trucks fuelled by liquified natural gas (LNG) to deliver engines to the Regensburg plant
The use of the trucks is part of the vehicle maker’s sustainability target of making all of the cargo transport for its operations carbon neutral by 2050
Using the trucks means carbon dioxide emissions on the route are cut by up to a quarter compared to conventional diesel engines
while nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) are reduced by up to 60%
BMW is using a cloud-based traffic control system to guide complex autonomous parts delivery at its Regensburg assembly plant in Germany

Ragnar Ache broke out of his scoring slump, marking his 11th and 12th goals of the season as the Red Devils beat Jahn Regensburg on Saturday 3-0.
1. FC Kaiserslautern got off to a fast start in front of 41,579 spectators at Fritz Walter Stadium, with Marlon Ritter testing ex-Red Devil Julian Pollersbeck in the third minute. The Regensburg keeper made the save and added a couple more, stopping shots by Filip Kaloc in the 26th minute and by Ache three minutes later.
Regensburg had scoring chances too, but the shots were either off the mark or stopped by FCK keeper Julian Krahl, leaving the game scoreless at halftime.
Kaiserslautern got off to a fast second-half start. Ache took a center from Florian Kleinhansl in the 47th minute and headed the ball past Pollersbeck into the net.
Four minute later FCK upped the score to 2-0, with Marlon Ritter converting a free kick from Maximilian Bauer with his right foot.
Regensburg had a couple of chances to get back into the game but failed to convert or had scoring possibilities called back for offsides.
Ragnar scored his second goal of the game in the 70th minute when he took a pass from Daniel Hanslik on a fast break and converted with a right-footer past Pollersbeck.
The win moved the Red Devils up to second place in the standings with 42 points, behind Hamburg, which lead on goal difference.
Cologne can move back to the top with a Saturday night win in Karlsruhe. Hamburg plays in Paderborn Sunday afternoon.
Next up for FCK is a Friday, 6:30 p.m. game at Fritz Walter Stadium against Elversberg, before heading to Paderborn for a 1 p.m. game on March 15.

From 2026 BMW will start using hydrogen-powered tugger trains and forklift trucks at Regensburg as part of its iFactory initiative
German OEM BMW is celebrating hitting its target of 100,000 fully-electric units produced at its Regensburg plant in its home state of Bavaria
The firm has not revealed exactly how many BEVs Regensburg produced last year
but total production thus far has jumped from under 240,000 to over 330,000 units
making it likely that BEV volumes at the facility have increased year-on-year
But it says that more of a third of its production is electrified
and that third of production would roughly equal to 110,000 units
leaving little scope for plug-in units alongside the 100,000 BEVs
EV inFocus: Hard news for the corporate e-mobility sector
BMW’s total all-electric sales have increased this year
albeit Q3 saw an annual rise of only just over 10pc compared to the same quarter last year
slower growth than the 20pc+ jumps seen in Q1 and Q2 (see main image)
BMW’s BEV sales remain on course to comfortably outstrip 2023 volumes (see Fig.1)
PHEV and BEV versions of its X1 and X2 at Regensburg
In a German market where BEV sales have dropped by 26pc year-on-year in the first 11 months of the year
iX1 sales have proven more resilient that the overall market
albeit sliding by 7pc from almost 12,000 units sold in Jan-Nov 2023 to just over 11,00 year-to-date in 2024
Only two iX2s had sold in Germany prior to last November
But an extra 1,500 iX2 units sold this year due to being fully available does lift overall sales of Regenburg’s BEV output in Germany higher year-on-year (see Fig.2)
More than 1,400 X1 and X2 models are currently coming off the production line at Regensburg every workday
more circular and more efficient overall this year,” Ebner continues
“We are systematically driving our transformation towards electromobility and the BMW iFactory — an intelligently connected digital factory.”
Interestingly, the 100,000th BEV off the line this is an iX1 — as was the millionth vehicle ever produced at Regensburg back in July last year — which will be going all the way to the French overseas territory of Reunion in the Indian Ocean.
