and offered under very favorable terms as it is funded by the Baden-Würtemberg Ministry of Economics
Rottenburg “While I was looking for a studio where I could work and present my collection and art projects
I had the idea to offer visitors a unique experience here,” she explained
“Instead of overwhelming visitors and clients with numerous clothing items
I envision the space more as a gallery featuring art
and my own small denim collection crafted from old jeans and remnants,” she continued

her collection consists of a single product–a denim jacket for women inspired by a kimono style
Each jacket is unique as made by upcycling old denim pieces
but she will soon include more samples and styles
“The store will also serve as my design & art studio
where I'll design and produce items on-site
enabling direct interaction and communication with customers
My sewing machines will be placed in an open area
allowing customers to witness the manufacturing process firsthand,” explained Weber

BERLIN (AP) — A German ice cream parlor has expanded its menu with a skin-crawling offering: cricket-flavored scoops with dried brown crickets on top
The unusual confection is available at Thomas Micolino's store in southern Germany's town of Rottenburg am Neckar
Micolino has a habit of creating flavors that are far outside Germans' typical preferences for strawberry
he's offered liver sausage and Gorgonzola cheese ice cream as well gold-plated ice cream for 4 euros ($4.25) per scoop
That he can now produce the cricket flavor is due to a European Union regulation that allows the use of the insects in food
The EU already allowed migratory locusts and flour beetle larvae as a food additive
Micolino's ice cream is made of cricket flour
It has a "surprising yummy taste" — or at least that's what he wrote on Instagram
The creative vendor says that while some people are disgusted and even upset that he is offering insect ice cream
curious customers have mostly liked the new flavor
"Those who try it are very enthusiastic," Micolino said
"I have customers who come here every day and buy a scoop."
gave the cricket-infused flavor a positive review
it's really very tasty and edible."
also praised the ice cream's creamy consistency
but added that "you can still sense the cricket in the ice cream."
Rottenburg (KNA) Twenty-six non-ordained theologians have been authorized to administer the sacrament of baptism in church liturgies for the first time in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in south-western Germany
following the Diocese of Essen which did so in March
At a service in Rottenburg Cathedral on Wednesday evening
Bishop Gebhard Fuerst commissioned them to perform the sacrament in the future
the theologian Regina Seneca said it was an important step toward contemporary pastoral care
Bishop Fuerst thanked the theologians for taking up their new role and said they were taking on an important role in passing on the faith in future
the Diocese of Essen published a similar regulation on baptismal ceremonies by non-ordained male and female theologians
Around 10,000 children are currently baptized each year in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese. The assumption of liturgical functions by Catholics without ordination is one of the demands of the German Synodal Path; it is intended to help overcome clericalism
which is seen by some as a cause of sexual abuse in the Church

On April 15th, Richard Rottenburg, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Halle, Germany and the 2014-2015 Theodor Heuss Visiting Professor at The New School for Social Research, presented a lecture to The New School’s General Seminar. Here is the announcement of the event:
For a long time anthropology had a penchant for examining other worlds
thereby indirectly critiquing the Western world
Since the late 1980s this shifted and a critical anthropology emerged
which directly interrogated citadels of Western modernity
entered this critical intellectual debate at a moment in history when other disciplines were about to abandon it due to a more radical rendering of critique
Scholarship in the emerging field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) asserted since the 1980s that the realities manufactured by science and technology have to be analyzed symmetrically to cultural realities
This reflexive shift was a double-edged sword; it could not spare its own outcomes from imputations of contingency
STS bashfully needs to assume an Archimedean point placed outside the world to observe this world
yet simultaneously vehemently denies that such an external point of view can be accessible to human endeavor at all
Post-critical anthropology offers new versions of postmodern and postcolonial modesty in dealing with this aporia
This lecture examines the remaining space of critique and offers an outlook on the possibilities of a post-critical critique
The Heuss Lecture marks the overlapping of two cycles in our intellectual world
a distinguished scholar from Germany comes to The New School
honoring the rescue mission of German academics and intellectuals from Nazi Germany that was our University in Exile
one that was first founded by the German exiles
Rottenburg presented a paper concerning a major interest of his
reflecting on how “objectivity,” “critique” and “institution” are related
Note the beginnings of a discussion at the conclusion of this recording
The discussion was so interesting that it was picked up in a special dialogue between Rottenburg and Richard Bernstein
Senior Fellow at the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies
While I have volunteered with Phi Delta Theta since 2014
I have been a higher ed professional since 2011
The hardest part about working in this space is losing a student
which is compounded when a student’s self-harm leads to death
I first encountered death by suicide in 2018.
I will never forget when I received the call that one of my mentees had died by suicide
have made it a priority to continue working towards a year where no more brothers have death by suicide
This goal will only be accomplished if we have tough conversations about mental health and harm awareness within the Fraternity.
Doris Rottenburg-Sommer reminds us that “when a tragedy is not spoken of openly
we shy away from talking about self-harm and death by suicide because of “feelings of self-denigration and self-recrimination” for those we have lost.
and we’ve had over twenty-five deaths by suicide
an average of six deaths by suicide a year within the Phi Delt community.
I think the best way we can help is to talk about suicide prevention and consider potential warning signs
I want to clarify that I am not a mental health professional
I have looked into the subject to improve my work as a higher ed professional
The American Foundation for Suicide Provention is a great resource
It reminds us that suicide is complex and there is no single reason for its occurrence
it often occurs when the intersection of mental health challenges (anxiety and depression)
and a lynchpin moment (a poor test score or experiencing rejection) meet.
there are warning signs we can be on the look
which might help prevent a death by suicide
Recognizing these warning signs requires that we pay attention to the following:
You might also consider the following questions:
If you notice any of these warning signs or the answer to any of these questions is yes
check in with your brother to see if they want or need help
Refer them to the proper support channels like a counseling and psychological services office
You might also have a help and safety check performed or offer to seek help with them
and other members who have walked with their brothers to the university counseling center or the center for student support
If you need help accessing resources, start here
The Fraternity has compiled a list of student support centers on all of our campuses.
Regardless of whether you are an active member or an alumni adviser
we all want the same thing–the health and safety of all our members
while completing her master’s in social work from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work
shared that one of the problems is the stigmatization of beginning the conversation about suicidal ideation
we won’t be able to have a plan of action
Having these tough conversations makes it less likely that someone dies by suicide
as these conversations show support for compassion and destigmatize men’s mental health and the shame and fear around speaking about self-harm
The normalization of mental health conversations will allow us to help others and ourselves; through that effort
more of our brothers will be able to find a pathway forward

The second city in the Two Cities update is Rottenburg
the “vaguely European” hometown of everyone's favorite insane physician
Rottenburg is a fitting backdrop for an update that adds some much-needed defensive capabilities to the medic class
including the ability to resurrect dead teammates and a force shield that deflects bullets
All the really fun stuff goes to the hometown hero Medic
but the Soldier gets a little bit of attention
A new “rocket specialist” upgrade increases his rate of fire
and rockets stun any enemies they don't outright kill
There's also a bit of a boost to splash damage for any rocket that hits a robot directly
All-told, it's a good time to round up some friends and get back into TF2 if you've been away for a while. You can check out the full update details and the list of new achievements at the TF2 site

KENT — Despite political changes in foreign relations
a local high school German exchange program is still going strong after 20 years with hundreds of students who have had life-changing experiences
built lasting friendships and even gotten married as a result of participating
Kent Roosevelt High School’s partnership with Rottenburg started in 1997
but a similar program existed prior to that with another town in Germany
When Mary Pfeiffer took over the program from former German teacher Frank Engleman at Kent Roosevelt
she decided it was time to switch up the program and move it from Stuttgart
according to current program adviser and German teacher Eric Morgan
Morgan said Pfeiffer connected with Renate Witte
and the program has been between Kent and Rottenburg ever since
Morgan added while he isn’t sure of Pfeiffer’s reasoning for the change
the two cities are more comparable to one another
approximately 20 to 25 German ninth-grade students travel to Kent and live for three to four weeks with a host family and are partnered with a Roosevelt student who is studying German
The visiting students are in the United States during the course of their own school year and have studies they must keep up with while attending school and activities in Kent
but then they get to pick some electives that they choose while they are here,” Morgan said
explaining the variety of courses offered in Kent is much larger than what is offered in Rottenburg
field trips are part of the program one day a week
Millersburg/Berlin and a long weekend trip to New York City
Kent students will travel to Rottenburg in the summer and experience what school and family life is like in Germany
again living with assigned host families with similar experiences
including once-a-week field trips to Heidelburg
Lake Constance and a long weekend trip to Munich
Morgan said the program is under the German American Partnership Program
which is sponsored by the Goethe Institute
He said GAPP helps support the program but is really run by the teachers and the families involved in hosting
Several families have participated more than once
all of the kids in a particular family have hosted and/or traveled with the group
This year the group has its first second-generation participant this year
One girl whose father took part in the exchange in Stuttgart with Engelmann back in the 1980s before the program switched to Rottenburg is visiting
One of the biggest life-changing experiences was a couple who met as a result of the program
met Maren Derbogen when she came to Ohio as part of the exchange program
The couple could not be reached for comment by press time
but they are living in Rottenburg and running a coffee shop
who participated in the program 10 years ago
said the experience was one of the most rewarding things she has done
“It really was the starting point for the next 10 years of my life
“After participating in the exchange program
I went on to study international relations and German at Kent State
I started at the university knowing I wanted to spend a year in Germany
Miller did just that and spent a year at Universitat Leipzig
where she became completely fluent in the language
and landed her first full-time position at one of Europe’s largest companies due to her fluent German
“This exchange really ignited my passion for other cultures and the world,” she said
“I was so interested to see how other people lived
to form lifelong bonds with people from far away places
and ultimately to realize that people everywhere are the same.”
who participated in the program in 2015-16
“My biggest takeaway from the experience was probably how interconnected our world is and how important it is to be a part of that interconnectedness,” Maddie said
you have to talk with other people and expose yourself to other cultures
This exchange helped to make me more independent
She said the program enhanced her high school career by introducing her to new friends both locally and abroad
the program still resonates as she is currently enrolled in German during her freshman year at Miami University and plans to participate in an eight-week study abroad there this summer
“I don’t think that I would be as confident as I am about studying in Germany for eight weeks if I hadn’t gone through this program,” Maddie said
“I am also really interested in studying international relations
which was definitely influenced by this German trip
The German trip not only influenced what I’m doing with my life currently
Maddie’s mom who is hosting for a second time this year
said the program is life-changing because opens the eyes of the youth that there is a “big beautiful world out there and children in other areas just like them.”
“It’s a wonderful way to educate our youth about how important it is to be a global citizen and the importance of learning about other people and other cultures,” Shawn said
but learning how to get along with diverse people from different backgrounds and cultures is imperative to the children’s future academic
We live in a diverse world where through programs like this
we can achieve a greater understanding of other people and other cultures.”
Morgan said he consistently hears from former students who still keep in touch with their German counterpart or host family
when asked what they appreciated most about the experience
it is not the glitz and glam of NYC or taking a buggy ride through Amish country
but the relationships that are built during the exchange
Shawn echoed that and said she and her daughter Maddie joined her German student partner and her mother on a girls trip and met in Rome for a few days
Patty and Mike Finley have hosted five students while their daughters attended Kent Roosevelt — two of them hosted after their daughters graduated
Patty said she still stays in contact with the students mostly via Facebook
and one of the couple’s host students spent six weeks with the family the summer after her exchange and visited several times while she lived in Chicago
Miller said she too keeps in touch with her partner in Germany even 10 years later
and visited her in Rottenburg about a month ago

Bishop Gebhard Furst of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart
Bishop Furst has criticized the manner of a protest bya priest who tied a scarf around his head during a Pentecost sermon and wore it on the altar during the duration of the May 20 service
By Catholic News Service • Posted May 25
Germany (CNS) — A German pastor has ignited controversy by donning a headscarf during his Pentecost Sunday sermon
shocked his congregation by tying a scarf around his head during a Pentecost sermon and wearing it on the altar during the duration of the May 20 service
Father Sedlmeier said he wished to protest discrimination against Muslims and Jews
The gesture has sparked a storm of outrage and ridicule on social media
earning Father Sedlmeier the internet nickname of the “Headscarf Priest.”
Bishop Gebhard Furst of Rottenburg-Stuttgart has criticized the manner of Father Sedlmeier’s protest
“The form … is certainly borderline and not well-chosen,” Bishop Furst told the media
I will start a clarifying conversation with him in the next coming days.”
The diocese said that no disciplinary actions are planned
a diocesan spokesman expressed unhappiness with Father Sedlmeier’s behavior in Mass and the ensuing social media rampage
“To put on a headscarf during a Mass is certainly very unusual for the Catholic Church,” a diocesan spokesman told local media

GERMANY: Compressor manufacturer Bitzer is expanding its facilities at its Rottenburg-Ergenzingen factory with the addition of a new 2,500m2 paint plant
Members of the Bitzer management board laid the foundation stone last week for the new building
which is scheduled to go into operation in 2026
particular attention has been given to saving resources
energy efficiency and environmental considerations
exclusive use of waste heat and electricity supplied from natural resources.
which produces screw and scroll compressors
already benefits from sustainable energies such as photovoltaic systems on the roof as well as its own wind turbine
we set ourselves the goal of reducing the use of resources per product by more than 20%,” commented Kai Schuppler
the site’s plant manager and vice president fulfilment EMEA
The paint shop will include a dry spray wall with rotating brushes to drastically reduce filter waste.
It will also be equipped with an exhaust air purification system with an adsorption wheel to ensure a reduction in VOC emissions of 87% using regenerative after-burning
This system does not require any additional heating energy
as it processes the exhaust air from the paint booths
evaporation zones and paint dryers in such a way that autothermal operation is possible.
Bitzer is relying on new and future-oriented surface technology,” said independent system planner Peter Herbold
“Process and quality assurance are the highest priorities in the new system
paint quantities and filter material represents another step towards a sustainable future of production.”

The discussion following Richard Rottenburg’s Heuss Lecture did not fully explore the insights and challenges of the lecture
Nor were the questions and concerns fully articulated and evaluated
I particularly had a sense that Richard Bernstein asked a key question and it would be good for Rottenburg to consider it more deeply
I also sensed that they were talking past each other
that they shared key common judgments and concerns
and that their differences needed further exploration
potentially providing insights that neither of them recognized
I invited them to join me and continue their debate more informally
At the center of their discussion was the idea and practice of critique
and the role it plays in the academy and beyond

Team Fortress 2's Medic is even more useful now that the Two Cities update has arrived; it takes us to his hometown of Rottenburg
In an update to yesterday's announcement
Valve revealed the second of the two cities included in the latest TF2 update: Rottenburg
It's the "vaguely European" city whence comes the equally vaguely-European Medic
It's under attack by the Gray Mann's robots
but all will be well thanks to the hometown boy's new abilities
As well as having the ability to revive fallen comrades
There's also been an upgrade to the bazooka; the Rocket Specialist upgrade lets the Soldier shoot faster rockets that temporarily stun any target they don't kill
Direct hits to a target increase splash damage radius to surrounding enemies
This new content comes in addition to the Manhattan map, weapon effects, player performance statistics and new community map detailed yesterday. For more details on the contents of the update, check the full patch notes

The Project largely seeks for the development
installation and testing of a decentralized energy system consisting of a solar thermal drying system
The core objective of the project is to explore the technical and economic feasibility of a decentralized energy system based on local biogenic residues for the reliable and sustainable supply of electricity
The project team in Ghana is under the coordination and responsibility of Ing
who provides expertise in Bioenergy Technologies and Sustainable Development
a research facility is being developed and built at the university campus of the project partner (UENR) which will investigate suitable process designs and constellations for eligible conversion technologies namely “biomass gasification”
“biomass fermentation” and solar thermal energy
All components of the facility will be combined in an off-grid system provided with storage capacity for electricity
biogas and smart energy management to maximize efficiency and balance energy generation and demand
the research energy facility will be established and evaluated with respect to its economic and technical efficiency
the related sustainability of raw material – or feedstock respectively – production as well as the indirect economic
social and political effects of such energy production facilities
the framework conditions for economic operation and a business model will be developed for the continuation of the system by local companies and institutions
This provides the opportunity for SMEs to translate acquired knowledge from the research phases into process and product innovations
the economic success and the creation of services are of great importance for the development and the provision of a product for future markets
As part of the commencement of the project

Hundreds of Filipino migrants and Germans join the procession of “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” along the streets of the German village of Obereisesheim
Badoc’s miraculous Madonna has found a home in Europe
The small village of Obereisesheim in Germany has become the first officially declared place of devotion to “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” outside the Philippines
In a Mass presided over by Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag on Saturday
a three-feet replica of the Patroness of Ilocos Norte was enshrined in the Christuskirche of Obereisesheim
under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart
Hundreds of Filipinos and German devotees from various parts Germany attended the solemn event
including some Filipino priests coming from Germany
the Bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart was represented by the Very Rev
the Dean for the Deanery of Heilbronn and Neckarsulm
Bishop Mayugba brought with him the Rector of the Basilica of Badoc
Freddie Astudillo and Laoag’s Diocesan Chancellor
The Embassy of the Philippines in Berlin was represented by Consul Bong Villanueva
The solemn enthronement was organized by Filipino Migrants who compose the Catholic Group named Divine Mercy Prayer Group headed by Elsa Quintero-Agatep
Agatep hopes the church will be flocked by pilgrims as they seek the help of Our Lady
Bishop Mayugba is in Europe these days for the recently concluded six-day “Visita Ad Limina” of the first set of Philippine Bishops to Pope Francis
the Bishop of Laoag gave an image of Apo Badoc to the pope as a sign of gratitude for granting the Pontifical Coronation of the Lady of Badoc and the elevation of her church into a Minor Basilica
“La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” was presented to hundreds of Filipino Migrants at the Basilica di santa Pudenziana and the Church of St
Gabriel Archangel at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Rome
Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag presents replicas of “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” to Pope Francis at the Vatican May 20
Pope has received a small replica of “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” as a gift from Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag.
The pope was given the 18-inch statue during the audience of the first set of Philippines bishops for their “Ad Limina” visit on Monday.
Mayugba personally thanked the pope for the two privileges he granted recently his diocese: the pontifical coronation of “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” and the elevation of the church into a Minor Basilica.
The pope was actually presented with two replicas
one was given him and the other received his blessing and will be returned to Ilocos Norte to symbolize the link between the pontiff and the devotion to “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc”.
Pope Francis also blessed a diadem which will be crowned to the official pilgrim image
Bishop Mayugba is in a group of Philippine bishops for a six-day obligatory visit to meet with the pope and report to him the status of their dioceses
he also presented a small replica of Our Lady of Badoc to the Filipino community in Rome during a Mass at the Basilica de Santa Pudenziana
Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag holds the replica of “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” that he gave to Archbishop Joseph Mitsuaki Takami of Nagasaki
“La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” went home to her original family in Japan’s city of Nagasaki
Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag met with Archbishop Joseph Mitsuaki Takami of Nagasaki on Tuesday and presented him with a gift: a small replica of the image of La Virgen Milagrosa
The archbishop is expected to enthrone the image in the Nagasaki cathedral or display it in a museum dedicated to the hidden Japanese Christians in Nagasaki
“I’m also here promoting devotion to Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc-Nagasaki
Very warm welcome by the descendants of the hidden Christians,” Mayugba said
the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was found floating on the shores between the Ilocos towns of Badoc and Sinait in 1620 along with the image of crucified Christ
chronicled the discovery in 1764 and the report is extant in the Augustinian archives in Valladolid
Vivar wrote that the icons came from the hidden Japanese Christians who jettisoned the religious image into the sea to escape iconoclasm and for them to avoid persecution
The image of “La Virgen Milagrosa” was enshrined in the “Visita” of Badoc which became the house of the Virgin in the next 400 years
Thousands of Ilocanos and devotees all over the Philippines come to Badoc seeking Our Lady’s intercession
Bishop Mayugba’s visit in Nagasaki was expected as the starting point of a relationship between the Diocese of Laoag and the Archdiocese of Nagasaki with “La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc” as the link
the image was pontifically crowned last May 31
2018 by Cardinal Luís Antonio Tagle of Manila
the church of Badoc was declared as a Minor Basilica
with the presence of Cardinal Thomas Aquinas Manyo Maeda of Osaka
Cardinal Maeda said that there are so many links between the Catholicism in the Philippines and Japan
replicas of La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc will also be brought to Christuskirche in Heilbronn
Thousands of faithful attend the solemn declaration of the St
also known as the Shrine of La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc
It wasn’t the breathtaking beaches that attracted the visitors and locals to Badoc town in Ilocos Norte on Tuesday
for a ceremony elevating the shrine to minor basilica status
Thousands of people filled the pews and queued around the centuries-old baroque style church
where the “La Virgen Milagrosa” is currently enshrined
to witness the historic occasion in the Diocese of Laoag
the declaration was made by Archbishop Gabriele Caccia
in a Mass presided over by Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao and president of the Philippine bishops’ conference
The decree declaring this Vatican concession
issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments
was read in its original Latin text by Laoag’s Chancellor
Rey Respicio and the English Translation by the Rector of the Basilica
said that Francis’ decision to elevate the shrine’s status is a recognition of its role in the diocese and the whole church
“Becoming a minor basilica is a strong call to the people of Badoc and Ilocos Norte
as well as a call to all pilgrims… to strive daily to walk in the spirit of integrity,” Quevedo said
The Ilocos Norte-born cardinal also explained the connection of Japan and the Philippines through Apo Badoc
the cause of the elevation of the church to basilica
He said that there is no minor basilica without “La Virgen Milagrosa,” and there is no “Virgen Milagrosa” without the persecuted Christians of Japan who shipped out at sea the image
together with the black crucified Christ of Sinait
to avoid being destroyed by the Japanese persecutors
The local fishermen fished off the box that contained them from the sea
This is the reason of the presence of Cardinal Thomas Aquinas Manyo Maeda of Osaka during the historic declaration of the Badoc basilica
Cardinal Maeda said that the “Virgen Milagrosa” looks like the Our Lady of the Hidden Christians
the image which the persecuted Christians of Japan prayed to during the more than two centuries of hiding from persecution
He further spoke of a coincidental connection
the date of the Solemn Declaration of the Badoc Basilica is the Feast of the 26 Martyrs of Japan
The Mass ended with the Apostolic Blessing with Plenary Indulgence especially granted by Pope Francis to the occasion and was imparted by Archbishop Valles
A thanksgiving Mass and installation of the first basilica rector followed in the afternoon and was presided over by Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag
A solemn procession of “La Virgen Milagrosa” was also held around the town of Badoc participated in by thousands of pilgrims
the Badoc Church is among the eleven Filipino-Hispanic baroque churches in Ilocos Norte
the church enjoys “all the attached rights and liturgical concessions” pertaining to the privilege
These include the granting of plenary indulgence to whoever visits the church under the necessary conditions of sacramental confession
Eucharistic communion and prayer for the pope’s intention
These concessions are received during the following celebrations: on the anniversary of the dedication of the same basilica
on the day of the liturgical celebration of St
John the Baptist and La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc
on the anniversary of the granting of the title of basilica
once a year on a day to be determined by the bishop and once a year on a day freely chosen by the each of the faithful
The said concession also grants to the church the use of “the papal symbol
“crossed keys,” which may be exhibited on banners
