The Ramstein-Miesenbach interchange No. 13 on the A6 toward Mannheim will reopen Monday, almost two weeks ahead of schedule. Starting Monday, crews will begin securing the worksite on the opposite side. From Oct. 14 to Nov. 5, the closure will then affect traffic toward Saarbruecken. Vehicles will be diverted through the Landstuhl-West interchange, while L363 traffic will be routed to the Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof junction, according to Die Autobahn GmbH. The times are subject to suitable weather conditions, and Die Autobahn advises drivers to pay attention to radio announcements, to travel at times of low traffic where possible, or to take expected disruptions into account when planning their route and allow appropriate time. 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis e.V. made a strong start in the Champions League Men quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory over GV Hennebont TTF in France. The reigning champions took a significant step toward the Final 4, which will be held at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken on May 31 and June 1, 2025. Led by World No. 9 Truls MÖREGÅRDH, the visitors showed no mercy in their duel against the French club. After missing Darko JORGIĆ in the first leg of the Round of 16 and Patrick FRANZISKA in the second leg against HB Ostrov z.s., the German champions arrived in France with their strongest lineup. It also marked the first time this season that MÖREGÅRDH was listed in the team for a Champions League Men match. Patrick FRANZISKA opened the tie with a victory over Vladimir SIDORENKO, followed by Truls MÖREGÅRDH, who widened the gap with a win against Lev KATSMAN. Darko JORGIĆ then sealed the clash with a win over Iulian CHIRIȚA. “I am very happy with the match tonight. We showed some great table tennis, and I received fantastic support from the team. It’s a great joy to play for such an incredible club like 1. FC Saarbrücken, a two-time Champions League winner. Winning the opening leg 3-0, with a 9-1 games scoreline, is just the perfect way to start,” said Truls MÖREGÅRDH. In previous Round GV HENNEBONT TTF beat UKS Dojlidy Białystok. (Uwe Anspach/dpa via AP) SAARBRÜCKEN, Germany (AP) — Third-division Saarbrücken’s German Cup fairytale continued Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in their rain-delayed quarterfinal. “Just crazy, I’m mega-happy,” Brünker said as teammates and fans celebrated around him. “Mentality-monsters, I’m so ridiculously proud of every single one. Look at their faces!” The third-tier team now goes onto the semifinals against second-division Kaiserslautern on April 3. Bayer Leverkusen, the only Bundesliga team remaining in this season’s competition, plays Fortuna Düsseldorf in the other semifinal the next day. New grass had been laid in the intervening five weeks, but heavy rain poured down again before kickoff and the surface was far from ideal. The field gave way to clumps that stewards tried vainly to pat down before the match and during halftime. Players also tried patting down the wayward clumps during the match. Gladbach struck first with Robin Hack finishing off a counterattack in the eighth-minute, only for Amine Naifi to reply three minutes later for the home team. Gladbach pushed harder for the breakthrough in the second half as the rain continued to fall, then Saarbrücken defender Fabio Di Michele Sanchez set off on a run down the left and crossed for Brünker to fire the winner inside the left post in the third minute of stoppage time. “We simply didn’t want to concede in the second half, we managed that, and then to get a lucky punch, through a throw-in, a free kick, or from the halfway line. That we managed to do it is just crazy,” Saarbrücken coach Rüdiger Ziehl said. 1. FC Saarbrücken defeated Erzgebirge Aue 2-0 in 3. Liga, boosting their promotion hopes. FC Saarbrücken ended a frustrating run of form with a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Erzgebirge Aue, reigniting their promotion hopes in the 3. Liga. Goals from Kasim Rabihic (40th minute) and Florian Krüger (49th minute) secured the three points for the home side at the Ludwigsparkstadion, moving them level on points with third-placed Energy Cottbus (pending Cottbus's midweek match). Coach Rüdiger Ziehl made five changes to his starting eleven following recent disappointing results. The substitutions clearly paid dividends, as Saarbrücken dominated possession and created numerous chances throughout the match. Bjarne Thoelke, Lasse Wilhelm, Tim Civeja, Krüger, and Kai Brünker all impressed in their respective roles, demonstrating the depth of Saarbrücken's squad. With 55 points, Saarbrücken now sits just one point behind Arminia Bielefeld in the race for promotion. The result puts significant pressure on Energy Cottbus, who must win their upcoming match to maintain their position. The battle for automatic promotion is far from over, with several teams still vying for the top two spots. The upcoming fixtures will be crucial in determining the final standings. Although Dang QIU, Anton KÄLLBERG, and Timo BOLL secured a 3-0 victory in France, today’s return leg—played in front of a sold-out crowd , including standing-room-only tickets (1.100 spectators) —was anything but lacking in excitement. “Overall, we are really proud and happy to have overcome this tough challenge against Montpellier. They were the strongest possible opponent we could face in the quarterfinals. In the first leg, we were quite lucky, as we were behind in all games but managed to find the right solutions and stay calm. Today, in front of our supporters, we played a really strong match,” explained Timo BOLL, after his last-ever home match in the Champions League. 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis e.V., the hosts of the upcoming Final 4, comfortably overcame GV HENNEBONT TT in both legs, with even less drama in today’s match. Truls MOREGAARD initially struggled against Iulian CHIRITA, but after setting the pace, Patrick FRANZISKA and Darko JORGIC quickly sealed the win against Vladimir SIDORENKO and Lev KATSMAN. “It was a great performance by the whole team today. We had to be at our best because GV HENNEBONT TT is a very strong team. I am really satisfied, especially since this was my first singles match in Saarbrücken. This is such a great club with an amazing atmosphere… only good vibes here,” said MOREGAARD. “This was an important victory, with so much at stake, especially since we are hosting the Final 4. From the beginning, we knew it would be tough—CHIRITA is in top form. He beat me recently in Singapore, and today he gave Truls a hard time. Franziska managed to stay in control against SIDORENKO’s aggressive start. In the end, I just had to finish the job. Now, I can’t wait for May and for the Final 4 to start in front of our home supporters,” said JORGIC. FC Saarbrücken TT e.V. team Manager Nicolas BARROIS. Last year’s Champions League Final 4 winners, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT e.V, are now preparing for their first duel of the new season. In the Round of 16, the German club will face HB Ostrov z.s. of Czechia. “This year, the Champions League has fantastic lineups, such as Postsportverein Mühlhausen 1951 eV with Chinese players and Alliance Nîmes Montpellier TT with the LEBRUN brothers. There was no easy draw. If we make it to the quarterfinals, we could face GV Hennebont TT, which has an amazing team and great players. However, it’s too early to think about that since the team from Ostrava has very strong players,” added BARRIOS. Regarding the team’s current form, BARROIS commented: “We are not in a good period right now. We’ve had a few disappointing results, which put us in seventh position in the Bundesliga standings. Referee Florian Badstübner said in televised comments that the field was not fit for play and represented an injury risk. After the game was called off, Saarbruecken’s players gathered in front of a stand filled with fans, some waving flares, to pay tribute. The German soccer federation said it would hold talks with both clubs about finding a replacement date to play the game. After all the delays, the goals were scored eight and 13 minutes into first-half added time. A volley from Union’s Robin Gosens canceled out a header from Mainz’s Jonny Burkardt. Union is in 15th place and Mainz 17th in the 18-team league. Mainz, which has been in the top division for 15 years, has not won a league game since Nov. 4. To mark the first anniversary of the partnership with the town of Kovel, Mayor Conradt met with Mayor Ihor Chaika - LHS To mark the anniversary, Lord Mayor Uwe Conradt and Ihor Chaika, Mayor and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Kowel City Council, met in a video conference on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. They talked about the situation in Ukraine and the consequences for the city of Kowel. Ihor Chaika once again expressed his thanks for the support, which Mayor Conradt wants to expand further. Both have reaffirmed their willingness to exchange ideas on a regular basis. Since the beginning of the partnership, Saarbrücken has delivered three decommissioned fire fighting vehicles and a minibus with aid packages (provided free of charge by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) to the twin town. Together with Barsinghausen, GIZ packages made it possible to deliver a wheel loader and a multifunctional device at the beginning of December 2023. These were immediately put to use in Kowel for winter maintenance. In addition, private initiatives for aid deliveries are regularly supported, and this is also to be continued. According to the agreement, both cities promote and maintain friendly relations, in particular by sending delegations to each other, enabling the citizens of both cities to meet and share their respective cultures. In addition, both cities pledge mutual assistance in the event of war, crises and disasters, particularly in the area of support for refugees.  The city councils and administrations, public institutions and businesses in both cities will be involved in implementing the partnership. Social organizations, especially young people, but also interested citizens should be involved. “War is still raging in the middle of Europe. The destruction of the children's hospital in Kiev has once again shown us how ruthlessly and inhumanely Russia is waging this war of aggression. Ukraine therefore continues to need our unreserved solidarity. With the town twinning, we are supporting the city of Kovel in these difficult times and making a contribution to friendly cooperation in Europe across national borders,” said Conradt. The city of Kowel is located in the northwest of Ukraine and has around 70,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the district of the same name in the Volyn Oblast (Volhynia). Kowel is located around 50 kilometers from the Polish border and around 100 kilometers from the border with Belarus. The town's name is derived from the occupational name for the blacksmith; there is evidence of ironworking in the late Middle Ages. Today, the town is characterized by the engineering, food and timber industries, but above all it is an important railroad junction. The European route 373 (Lublin - Kiev), which runs through Kowel, means that the city is also important for connecting Ukraine to Poland and the West. More than a normal league game. The stadium is full one and a half hours before. When you warm up, it’s a totally different atmosphere. During the game, every duel you win, every good action, they’re celebrating.” That Saarbrücken have been able to reproduce their white-hot cup form only fleetingly in the Dritte Liga, where they are 10th and well out of the promotion race, is less surprising when you look at their squad: a mixture of youngsters who never quite made it at the top level and experienced journeymen such as the centre-forward Brünker, who in England is perhaps best known for a one-year spell at Bradford City that can charitably be described as mixed. “It was a really intense time,” Brünker says of a spell that produced 31 appearances and a single goal, against Oldham in the Checkatrade Trophy. “In a football sense, I wasn’t the scoring machine that Bradford hoped I would be. But I had a really nice time and I had this feeling of connection to the Bradford fans. I just wanted to give 100% for them.” He still watches all their games and after the tape is turned off spends several minutes singing the praises of Andy Cook, who he hopes can fire them to League Two promotion this season. But it took Saarbrücken, and the careful tutelage of Ziehl, to get him back on target and rebuild his confidence. “He trusts me,” says Brünker. “You have to get that trust from the manager. Even when the ball is not rolling for you, you can make it better with your mentality. When you defend well, when you stay compact, when you close the room for the opponent.” The 29-year-old plays at the vanguard of a hardworking 3-4-3, with the emphasis – at least against bigger teams – on closing down space and springing counterattacks. Asked to define his coaching philosophy, Ziehl prefers to express it in terms of values. “That you are a team on the pitch,” he says. “That the defence wants to have the ball, not just fight. That the strikers also have to defend.” Read moreAnd though it is more than three decades since Saarbrücken breathed the thin air of the Bundesliga this is a proud footballing region with a rich heritage The Saarland even had its own international team in the 1950s as France tried and failed to prevent the region from being absorbed back into Germany after the second world war “And with these games against the big clubs in Germany You feel you’re part of the ‘big football’.” It is the first time in the history of the DFB-Pokal that only one Bundesliga team has made it to the semi-finals (Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen face Fortuna Düsseldorf in Wednesday’s second semi-final.) And given the debates swirling around European football about competitive balance and the growing gap between the richest and the poorest this year’s competition feels like its own quiet act of rebellion: a reminder that however stacked the odds there are still fleeting moments when true sporting ingenuity finds a way “But the Pokal in its history has shown that teams from the second or starting lineup after the previous disappointing results with Saarbrücken dominating the match from the opening whistle Thoelke's early header hit the crossbar foreshadowing the attacking intent that would define their performance Saarbrücken's pressure eventually yielded results with Rabihic finding the back of the net after a good play by Civeja Krüger added a second goal early in the second Saarbruecken We were immediately struck by the imposing facade of the Saarbruecken Castle which is home to the Saar Historical Museum The museum entrance is tucked away in a side access point that could be easily overlooked we entered an exhibition space with a temporary display tracing the post-World War II love affair between Germans and their automobiles offering English translations via QR codes for visitors who don’t speak German While my wife and I are not particularly passionate about cars we found ourselves engrossed in the photographs and old ads highlighting the Saar region’s automotive industry We were surprised to find that the building itself occupies only a small part of the museum with more than 90% of the exhibition rooms located underground we entered a subterranean space showing fortifications and artifacts that span more than 500 years of this French-German history Evidence points to fortifications overlooking the Saar River at this location since the 10th century a time when the region was marked by shifting fiefdoms and territorial disputes the medieval castle underwent a Renaissance makeover resulting in a more opulent and refined palace structure above What remained from the medieval castle was the imposing stone keep integrated into later designs we explored the defensive structures and gun emplacements Props allowed us to imagine the gunners’ thankless tasks when the castle walls were still in the open air A particular curiosity was the ball court in the former moat the small area once served as a training ground for an early version of tennis and a wall offered space for a game similar to racquetball A witness to both French and German history the palace burned in the aftermath of the French Revolution Disputes regarding its reconstruction led to its auction by none other than Napoleon Bonaparte in 1809 Changes continued throughout much of the 20th century The most notable addition was the construction of the contemporary glass-and-steel centerpiece by the German architect Gottfried Boehm in the 1980s After exploring the dusty underground tunnels which takes visitors on a journey through the region’s local history from the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 to the 1960s Meticulously curated displays feature artifacts documents and interactive installations offering a glimpse of the lives of the people in the Saar region Displays depicted the impact of both world wars on the region uniforms and personal items shed a local light on the hardships and serve as a solemn reminder of the region’s resilience was a large basement room examining Nazi rule in Saarland The Gestapo claimed the palace as its local headquarters Visitors can explore an original jail cell and see inscriptions that detainees wrote on the walls Polish and other languages left us in a somber mood on our arrival we had walked over a memorial to what happened in this underground chamber German college students and their professor went on a mission to memorialize the Jewish cemeteries that once existed in Germany They secretly inscribed the names of 2,146 cemeteries on cobblestones before replacing them face down thus creating what is today recognized as the “Invisible Memorial.” As we stepped back into the cool evening air over these stones not knowing which ones held the engraved reminders we paused at the palace’s garden terrace to appreciate how much change this place has seen over time we decided that this was one of the most informative local historical museums we’ve visited Admission is free for everyone on the first Wednesday of each month HSV midfielder Elijah Krahn moves to third-tier 1 Hamburger SV youth academy graduate Elijah Krahn has left the club on a permanent deal to join 3 Krahn joined the club in 2015 from SC Concordia Hamburg and progressed through the youth ranks to make 23 appearances for HSV’s Regionalliga team His performances there earned him the right to train with the first team and since making his senior debut in February 2022 he has made eight league appearances for the club “Elijah has made positive steps year after year in our academy and has gained his first professional experience in the last couple of years Moving to the third division could well be the ideal next step on his journey,” says director of professional football Claus Costa “We wish him all the best and will keep an eye on his development.” “Pokalschreck — blue and black,” said the pre-match banner at Ludwigsparkstadion For the third time this season, third-division Saarbrucken turned “Pokalschreck” (terror of the cup) to dump a Bundesliga side out of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday night Borussia Monchengladbach were the latest top-flight victims going down 2-1 courtesy of a last-minute winner from Kai Brunker Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (2-1) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0) had already been despatched in previous rounds One more win — in next month’s semi against Bundesliga 2 side Kaiserslautern— and they will contest the final in Berlin “It’s a miracle — but also a bit of quality,” said Saarbrucken coach Rudiger Ziehl after the latest upset for his side have mysterious form in this competition when they were still in the fourth division They knocked out two second-division sides (SSV Jahn Regensburg and Karlsruher) and Bundesliga clubs Cologne and Fortuna Dusseldorf before being eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen we’re getting used to this,” captain Manuel Zeitz told reporters Saarbrucken’s serial underdog heroics aren’t easy to explain They’re not a fallen giant of football but a relatively small side from the smallest federal state of Germany — city-state Bremen aside — without a corporate or personal sugar daddy in the background Their turnover last season was €14million (£12m; $15m). In the league, they’re in solid if unspectacular ninth place, having struggled for goals all season after losing their main two strikers, Sebastian Jacob (cruciate ligament) and Patrick Schmidt (double leg break) Plans to sign reinforcements in January fell through as well hides the fact they’ve only lost five games in all competitions this season especially on their own pitch — if you can call it that Budgetary constraints during the renovation of the municipality-owned 16,000-capacity stadium a few years ago have led to chronic problems with the undersoil heating and drainage Third-division and lower sides always enjoy home advantage in the DFB-Pokal which makes the poor state of the pitch especially pertinent to Saarbrucken’s exploits in the competition they played their home games in Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion in Volklingen mobile floodlights and changing rooms in the nearby sports hall “I think teams were surprised to play there,” Zeitz told Kicker magazine a few weeks ago Bayern’s visit to Ludwigspark in November nearly couldn’t go ahead due to the poor condition of the pitch and it was completely waterlogged in February forcing this week’s replay of the cup game against Gladbach The new lawn that had been laid for €200,000 a few weeks earlier also hadn’t absorbed the heavy rain of recent days very well it looked as if the tie might have to be called off a second time; a few hours before kick-off “We will adjust to the conditions,” Gladbach manager Gerardo Seoane had said before the game His team actually coped much better than Bayern and Frankfurt creating numerous chances against a side who were far more open than usual they really wanted to go for it,” Ziehl explained But in addition to defensive fortitude and making the most of home advantage Saarbrucken have learned another trick that comes in handy on a wet and windy night under the floodlights: they score very late on in games Brunker’s 93rd-minute strike from a riveting counter-attack was already the third winner in injury time in this cup run The “Red Devils” from nearby Rhineland-Palatinate one of the traditional powerhouses of German football and Saarbrucken used to be big rivals in the 1950s but there hasn’t been a derby this meaningful in modern times That’s not the only reason this match will feel much bigger than the 2020 semi-final against Leverkusen Saarbrucken weren’t able to host any supporters at the Hermann-Neuberger at the time The crowd will relish the occasion even more next month “It might sound strange to say this as a second division side but we’re the underdogs,” Kaiserslautern coach Friedhelm Funkel said in anticipation of another raucous night on uncertain terrain “Saarbrucken are obviously the favourites.” but his men will do well to keep their wits at the haunted home of the black and blue Pokalschreck (Top photo: Andreas Schlichter/Getty Images) Munich-born Raphael Honigstein has lived in London since 1993. Follow Raphael on Twitter @honigstein The brutal robbery of an armored car in the Saarbrücken "Tatort" turned out to be a young woman's desperate attempt to find her parents The "Tatort" audience already knew her accomplice from a previous case .. It was a comparatively tenuous connection between the current Saarbrücken "Tatort: Das Ende der Nacht" (directed by Tili Tüllmann) and the previous "Tatort: Der Fluch des Geldes" (first broadcast: January 2024): "Not money again," complained Inspector Adam Schürk (Daniel Sträßer) as he and his colleague Leo Hölzer (Vladimir Burlakov) arrived at the scene of a robbery on an armored car The robbery of the money transporter took place in several stages: First the perpetrators stopped the van and sprayed all the windows with black paint then they planted an explosive device at the back door forcibly gaining access to the large amount of money A second explosive device was later used to cover any traces one of the two security guards (Jean-Luc Bubert) panicked left the car prematurely and was blown to pieces in front of his surviving colleague Aytac Celik (Mücahit Altun) the detectives Schürk and Hölzer and their colleagues Esther Baumann (Brigitte Urhausen) and Pia Heinrich (Ines Marie Westernströer) had to solve a death As the cars used in the robbery had recently been stolen in France the Saarbrücken "Tatort" team asked a French colleague (Sandy Lewis Godefroy) for help She quickly established a link between the number 73 spray-painted at the crime scene and a criminal gang operating throughout Europe led by the married couple Josef and Béatrice Radek (Sabine Timoteo) Their now grown-up daughter Carla Radek (Lena Urzendowsky) had not seen her parents since they left her with the neighbors at the age of eleven By robbing the money transporter and committing other crimes the young woman had tried to attract her parents' attention and find them again But Carla Radek did not act alone: she was supported by Moritz Leimer (Michelangelo Fortuzzi) whose traces of blood the police found at the crime scene Leo Hölzer already knew the name well: "I know him from a robbery," he explained to his shocked colleague: "He robbed Adam This could be seen in the fourth Saarbrücken "Tatort: Die Kälte der Erde" (first broadcast: 2023) Like the script for "Tatort: Das Ende der Nacht" the case tells the story of an arranged brawl between rival hooligan groups from Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern was after the loot from Adam's father's bank robbery He was hired by Adam's imprisoned "uncle" Boris The detective himself found and hid the money at the end of "Tatort: Das Herz der Schlange" (first broadcast: January 2022) Moritz Leimer is played by Michelangelo Fortuzzi: the 24-year-old son of Italian actor and director Alberto Fortuzzi became famous in 2018 for his role in the award-winning rbb drama "Alles Isy" He was also seen alongside Lena Urzendowsky in the eight-part film adaptation of the novel "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" (2021 The background story about the scammed money was ultimately concluded in the fifth Saarbrücken "Tatort: Der Fluch des Geldes": Adam had confessed everything to his colleague Leo the sports bag in which he had kept the money was stolen from him once and for all He didn't seem to face any serious consequences in the sixth "Tatort" that has now been shown both Pia and Leo were in serious danger at the end of the 90-minute movie Pia was kidnapped by Carla Radek and her mother Béatrice Carla offered to exchange Pia for her mother But the meeting between the two parties escalated Carla detonated an explosive device and died can be seen lying lifeless on the floor in a final shot "Tatort: Das Ende der Nacht" was the sixth case for detectives Adam Schürk and Leo Hölzer who have been investigating since 2020 and received female support in 2022 with Esther Baumann and Pia Heinrich Whether Leo Hölzer survived the detonation will be revealed in the next Saarbrücken "Tatort" at the earliest It is not yet known when this will be shown on the first channel According to the current broadcasting schedule it will probably not be until January 2026 A premature end to the Saarbrücken quartet is rather unlikely in view of the very good ratings: 9.05 million people watched the previous fifth film "The Curse of Money" The overall market share of 30.2 percent was the best figure for an SR "Tatort" since 1993 with the results expected to be presented later this year. The study which is being co-financed by the Luxembourg and German governments was discussed at a recent meeting between Transport Minister Yuriko Backes and her Saarland counterpart Petra Berg The project to develop a direct connection aims to meet the requirements of both long-distance transport passengers and improve travel for commuters from the Saarland working in the Grand Duchy according to Luxembourg’s Transport Ministry the ministers also discussed the traffic situation at the Schengen junction where the A8 and A13 motorways meet A long-term solution is being sought to reduce the burden of lorry traffic passing through the neighbouring villages “Cross-border cooperation plays a key role in the future development of mobility in our region we want to provide commuters and travellers in particular with even more convenient and seamless mobility both in local public transport and in private transport,” said Backes “We are firmly convinced that this successful cooperation will sustainably improve the quality of life on both sides of the border in the long term,” she added (This article Airport through the COVID-19 pandemic Prince implemented a functional plan to ensure business continuity and staff welfare segregating front-line operational staff into work teams to avoid interaction between groups She ensured that the $55 million domestic Terminal upgrade continued safely despite the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis She also deployed the COVIDSafe Operation Plan for Cairns Airport which was endorsed and later commended by Queensland Chief Health Officer As part of this plan Alicia developed an airport layout to provide physical separation of low risk and high-risk arrivals and initiated increased hygiene and sanitisation protocols The health and safety of the airport community was paramount to maintaining operations and in response to this Alicia initiated a COVIDSafe training program for the entire airport community and worked closely with her team to deliver As a result of the great work Prince has done to ensure COVID-19 best practices Cairns Airport was one of the first Australian Airports to be awarded an ACI Global Health Accreditation Alicia also led the terminal optimisation project which assessed and implemented terminal downscales due to the crisis Significant savings (both financial and environmental) were achieved by reducing the operational footprint of the airport Whilst maintaining operations throughout the pandemic was a priority Alicia ensured her team were kept well informed and engaged Cairns Airport has a team of 33 volunteers which form part of Alicia’s wider team To ensure they remained connected and cared for Alicia and her team created care packages including home-made cakes and personally delivered to each of the volunteers’ houses in a COVIDSafe manner Alicia demonstrated great leadership throughout the pandemic and continues to do so today Her clear and transparent communication and collaboration with other Australian Airports and key agencies to ensure best practice and alignment contributed greatly to business continuity all the above was managed whilst working remotely and juggling home schooling with her two young boys Balram Bheodari leads Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as North America’s most efficient airport due to his vast knowledge of and astute attention to efficiency in aviation which has allowed the airport to thrive in the most difficult of markets and selflessness to provide a quality of leadership throughout Atlanta Airport He oversees all facets of airport governance including operations and a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement programme designed to pave the way for Atlanta’s growth over the next 20 years Bheodari developed a comprehensive resumption of operations playbook that served to support ATL’s recovery efforts With guidance from the Federal Aviation Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amid evolving health and safety guidelines Bheodari steadfastly encouraged collaboration among stakeholders he participated in daily calls with Airports Council International and other large-hub airports to share best practices as well as information from Washington He aimed to restore customer confidence and ensure the airport was a healthy facility using COVID-19 safe protocols the airport achieved Airport of the Year by the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) Bheodari was the most ardent supporter of our mission-critical employees Having worked his way up through the ranks he fully appreciates the oftentimes thankless jobs these employees perform that keep the Airport safe and running optimally at all times Morale never flagged because Bheodari made sure those employees felt valued through hazard pay His actions and his directives all reflect his commitment to the three key focus areas of our organisation’s strategic plan: people Jonas Abrahamsson has shown the strength to steer the company towards its long-term sustainable goals Abrahamsson has ensured that Swedavia achieved its net zero target for all ten of the airports in 2020 and has continued to support strategic development and innovation to further the cause of sustainable air travel when passenger numbers where down over 90 per cent and a lot of investments were paused he decided that investments in the company’s net zero target should proceed allowing Swedavia to become the first net zero airport group by the end of 2020 Chris Dinsdale has worked at Budapest Airport since 2015 where he was nominated for the position as CEO fought relentlessly to make sure that the company survived the crisis and worked with great commitment to secure the funding of the airport a voluntary salary cut for the executives and the founding of the Budapest Airport Foundation which supports blue collar workers who lost their job during the COVID-19 pandemic After being nominated to CEO position in March 2021 Dinsdale continues to work closely with the executive team to create a clear COVID-19 recovery strategy for Budapest Airport This will also mean that we come out stronger of the pandemic and have a clear focus Dinsdale is an inspiring true leader who helped us all to cope with the very difficult times of the pandemic and I am convinced that he truly deserves this award Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly This category only includes cookies that ensures basic a fragmentary representation of the range of state events the image of a state is most likely defined by the focus on outstanding and decisive events The appearance of a country is closely linked to the personalities of its political dignitaries The resulting associations are further fed by iconic motifs created by the media: often big and pompous we become visually flooded with pictures of crises These pictures take control over the public perception of a particular government or an entire political movement the actual work of the elected representatives which is often invisible to the population takes place: The running of the Federal Republic of Germany which in its entirety is hardly tangible and which is divided into the organs and institutions of the executive With millions of employees who organize and manage the country in countless ministries provide the daily venues for political agreements It is only from these seemingly endless networks that a bigger picture starts to one of the group’s largest plants worldwide with around 9,000 employees “Together with its employees and the state government ZF has put together a comprehensive package of measures to secure the future with the aim of establishing purely electric drive systems in Saarland“ The package consists of three main pillars: “high investments by the group (in the three-digit million range) contributions by employees to a future fund and active support from the Saarland state government through funding measures” With the start of production of the new 8-speed automatic transmission the last hybridisation stage before the pure E-drive the plant is already well utilised in the medium term due to the high demand the production of drive technology for pure e-vehicles is now being prepared new production lines will be installed for this purpose The agreement sustainably strengthens Saarbrücken in its new role as a lead location for electric drive systems responsibility for the worldwide industrialisation of electric drive systems will be assumed from here Electrive notes that “The ZF E-Mobility division has its headquarters in Schweinfurt. A new building for administration, sales and research and development was opened there in summer 2019 A development at the Saarbrücken location is not mentioned in the announcement – so that will probably continue to take place in Schweinfurt” Minister President Anke Rehlinger states: “Companies employees and the state government are setting out together on the road to the automotive future The path we are taking together in Saarbrücken is a shining example of how structural change can be actively shaped when companies think ahead and have partners who are capable of action One of the largest industrial employers in Saarland is securing its location here today and with it thousands of jobs It is a very important signal of confidence in these times.” “The example of Saarbrücken shows how successfully transformation can be orchestrated in close cooperation between the company employees and state politics,” says Stephan von Schuckmann member of the ZF Board of Management responsible for e-mobility “Only in this way will we be able to actively shape the changes in value creation and employment and position our locations for the future chairman of the works council at the Saarbrücken site adds: “We have been fighting for a long time for realizing future products for the site the foundation has been laid for the next generation of mobility at the Saarbrücken site more products of the future will have to be established in order to compensate for the future decline in 8-speed automatic transmissions and thus secure employment the transformation is becoming visible and soon tangible for our colleagues Things are moving at ZF’s largest transmission location © Copyright 2012 - 2025 | Vado e Torno Edizioni | All rights reserved | P.I The end for a long-standing Saarland company: Gusswerke Saarbrücken will cease operations at the end of the month The Saarbrücken foundry has long struggled with the lack of orders and will be closed at the end of June according to Saarland's Minister of Economic Affairs more than 200 employees will be out of a job by the end of the month 40 employees will take over the handling of the operation by the end of September whose history goes back to 1756, will have cost more than 1,000 employees their jobs the foundry suffered from a lack of orders and filed for bankruptcy in September of last year I would like to receive the bi-weekly Foundry-Planet newsletter with all latest news Plus the special newsletters – all can be cancelled anytime and at no cost But can you do it on a rainy night in Saarland Marcel Gaus may have been the one to pierce the hearts of Bayern Munich fans with his 90+6’ winner but it was Tim Schreiber that kept FC Saarbrücken in the game The 21-year-old produced his most memorable save in the 75th minute flying across goal to stop a venomous shot from Kingsley Coman A barrage of Bayern attacks would soon follow but Schreiber stepped up every time he was called on Had it not been for the platform the young goalkeeper gave Saarbrücken Bayern would surely have walked away victorious Bayern’s defence has been shaky at best in recent weeks, but, with all due respect, getting dismantled by a third division side is not okay. Following Matthijs de Ligt’s injury the backline saw constant rotation with Kimmich and Laimer dropping into centre-back on separate occasions This certainly didn’t do the defence any favours and neither did sub-par performances from Alphonso Davies the defence left a lot to be desired tonight Let’s hope Bayern improve ahead of their clash with Dortmund on Saturday and please for the love of all things good It was exciting to see Thomas Müller back in the starting line-up for what felt like an eternity The Raumdeuter was off to a flying start with an unconventional outside the box goal in the 16th minute What followed was certainly not Müller’s best performance in a Bayern shirt often misplacing passes and looking generally out of sync with his teammates celebrating by sharing a handshake with Thomas Tuchel If only they could have seen what was about to unfold in Saarland Bonus theory: Maybe Müller has pre-empted Tuchel’s sacking and wanted to be the first to send him on his way but he proved that he still has something to offer this team A controversial award for a controversial night. I am fully prepared to be roasted in the comments for this, but Kimmich put in a solid performance in a Bayern side that was anything but solid. Two things stood out about Joshua Kimmich: His passing ability and versatility. Kimmich ended the night with a 93% pass completion while producing three key passes He was also forced to deputise at centre-back for a fair portion of the game right-back or even centre-back; Kimmich can perform at the highest level In a Bayern side that is looking thinner and thinner by the day Kimmich will be sorely missed in Der Klassiker on Saturday If you’re not done wallowing in the misery of this loss, you can check out our postgame review/rant about Thomas Tuchel and the state of Bayern Munich at the moment. Bayern, who last lifted the trophy in 2020, had taken a first-half lead through Thomas Müller before Saarbrücken levelled in first-half added time. Read more“This is a brutal blow for us,” said Müller “To be eliminated for the third time in the second round of the Cup is not what we strive for We have to congratulate Saarbrücken for their fight Then we are hit on the break in the 96th minute but we had wasted too many chances before that.” Bayern’s coach Thomas Tuchel made several changes to the team that crushed Darmstadt 8-0 on Saturday leaving their top scorer Harry Kane on the bench along with Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala The game had been in doubt due to heavy rain but it was the hosts who troubled Bayern more early in the match before the visitors opened their account with their first chance when 20-year-old Frans Krätzig set up Müller in the 15th minute Bayern also had to take defender Matthias de Ligt off midway through the first half with the Dutch international suffering a knee injury It got worse before the break for Bayern as defender Kim Min-jae’s pass was intercepted and Patrick Sontheimer tapped in from close range Thomas Müller reacts after the massive upset.
