More than a century of food and community-building bring Cleveland’s Stockyards neighborhood together at Sachsenheim Hall
Lent is one of the best times to visit the German social club and bar for its popular fish fry
along with other German specialties like schnitzel and paprikash
a wild taco menu — but we’ll get to that later
three-floor brick building stands tall at 7001 Denison Ave.
with a marquee awning looming over front doors
translating to “Saxon Home.” The structure traces back to the late 1800s
along with black-and-white photos of bands
Decades’ worth of patrons — seen smiling in the framed prints hung on the wood-paneled walls — have grown and hosted their lives’ biggest celebrations in the building
the secretary of the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons’s Branch 4
remembers her childhood in the ’50s and ’60s
full of Sachsenheim Hall festivities which crept into the late-night hours
“I remember as a child coming home with my parents at four in the morning
and my father making us get up for church at 8 a.m.,” remembers Miller-Malue
“Even after a long night at the Sachsenheim
every Saxon was at church on Sunday morning.”
Entire generations of Clevelanders have called the space theirs
“Customers that are my age come in here
‘My grandparents got married upstairs
We’ve been coming here for years,’” Osborne says
but the people who do know about it cherish it.”
The reasonably priced dining event — featuring beer-battered or baked cod ($10.95) and swai ($9.95)
a shrimp basket ($10.95) or fish and chips ($7.95) — has become one of its most popular days of business
that gets pretty crazy,” Osborne says
“Tuesdays and Fridays are our busiest days.”
RELATED: Fish Fry-Days: What The Tradition Means To Cleveland
Fish frys on Fridays and tacos on Tuesdays — but don’t forget about wing Wednesdays and burger Thursdays
there’s whatever-the-chefs-feel-like-making Saturdays and Sundays
They have to still do our staples; we have to have schnitzel
we always have to have paprikash,” Osborne says
The taco menu has earned a big following in Cleveland
It’s no wonder why: Nearly 40 types are available for order
mixing together traditional Mexican fillings like carnitas
listed alongside flavors that only make sense at a place like Sachsenheim
And they’re quite the deal at $2.50 a pop
You can thank former chef Scott “Grumpy” Lindell for the whole spinoff
known for founding Grumpy’s Cafe in Tremont
formerly ran Sachsenheim’s kitchen for more than 20 years before moving out of state to care for sick family members in 2020
along with Lindell’s menus of fan-favorite recipes

So how — and why — does a historic German restaurant get into the taco game in the first place? And how are those tacos so good that Sachsenheim cracked the top 10 Cleveland Mexican restaurants
as compiled by Stacker’s Cleveland Yelp data
It was all in the name of efficiency; Lindell started the special years ago as a way to reduce waste from butchering processes for steaks
It was an inexpensive way to make tacos,” Osborne says
“But in that is a variety: a variety so huge
because we’re working with many different products for seafood
So he’s developed that Taco Tuesday into a list that’s 40 items long
40 ridiculous choices to choose from.”
I stopped by a busy barroom with a friend to try a few of the creations
My favorite was the punchy tequila lime chicken taco
seconded by the sweet-and-savory honey garlic pork
I enjoyed the stuffed cabbage taco — a little spicy but still warm and comforting
The chicken paprikash taco is a fun addition
but the simple compositions succeed thanks to more intensely flavored meat options.
all the options paired well with a pint of German lager ($5) and a platter of barbecue pork nachos
A sweet blueberry empanada ($2.75) served as a not-too-sweet dessert
This Tuesday night presented quite the cultural mish-mash
which is fitting for this Stockyards standout eatery that’s always been known as a home for its surrounding community
“It kind of evolved with the way the neighborhood evolved
and I’ve had a lot of them tell me this place is a fixture,” Osborne says
it’s become a home for various cultures.”

(Not that there's anything wrong with that style of food; it's delicious and is responsible for popularizing Mexican food in the United States.) But Mexican food means more than that
It reflects Mexico's diverse population—shaped by waves of immigration—and has proliferated throughout the U.S., showcasing the cuisine in all its complexity and regionality. Mexico has 32 distinct regional styles of cooking
and thanks to immigrant chefs and the rise of promising culinarians of Mexican descent looking to share their signature dishes
diners are reframing their idea of "Mexican food."
According to a 2024 Pew Research Center analysis of SafeGraph data, 1 in 10 restaurants in the U.S. serve Mexican food
counties have at least one Mexican restaurant
The analysis also reveals that California and Texas are home to a majority of the Mexican American population and together host 2 out of 5 Mexican restaurants in the country
These findings serve as a testament to the influence Mexican cuisine has had and continues to have in America
Which begs the question: Where does one go for the best old-school Mexican restaurants
loncheras slinging tacos out of a half-window
and innovative modern Mexican food pushing culinary boundaries
To help you out, Stacker compiled a list of the highest-rated Mexican restaurants in the Cleveland area based on diners' reviews on Yelp as of February 2025
Restaurants with at least 20 reviews tagged as "Mexican" on Yelp within a 10-kilometer radius of Cleveland were included
some restaurants featured may serve other food items besides Mexican food
in an effort to highlight independent businesses and local chains
those with more than 50 locations nationally

TUP GmbH & Co. KG - Warehouse Management Solutions
The fashion and lifestyle company Breuninger was founded in 1881 by Eduard Breuninger and is now one of the leading omnichannel department stores in Europe. For over 140 years, Breuninger has been setting high standards in the areas of fashion, beauty and lifestyle with an exclusive selection of international designer brands and selected newcomer brands.
The Breuninger goods service center was opened in 2019 in the Eichwald industrial estate in Sachsenheim with a total floor area of around 76,000 square meters. The WDZ in Sachsenheim combines the areas of merchandise processing, supplying stationary retail and online shipping, content production with a photo and text studio, the Breuninger confectionery, an administration department and an employee canteen.
Thanks to the individual nature of the TUP software, we benefit from a high degree of flexibility and rapid implementation of changes and adaptations. TUP.WMS was the perfect fit for our requirements – this is still evident today.
Dr. Frank Postel talks about the special features and benefits of working with us from his CTO perspective.
Even at this early stage, we received good advice from our TUP colleagues, who of course contributed their experience from other projects. That helped us a lot because Sachsenheim was a new and, above all, unique project for us. We were therefore very grateful for the wealth of expertise that was available in Stutensee.
Goran Zukolo, Lead Product Owner and Domain Architect for the logistics area, gives us an insight into the collaboration with us from his planning perspective.
We managed to pull off a go-live despite enormous challenges: the coronavirus pandemic, huge incoming orders in e-commerce and we still managed it with confidence. This shows that the collaboration was excellent and that the right topics were addressed at the right time.
Head of Department Reza Mohammadi focuses on the daily operational processes in the warehouse.
For me, however, it was simply great to see that we have optimized the routes here at the WDZ, that everything has been standardized and digitally supported, that training is now easier and a lot of thought has been given to throughput and productivity. So the relocation here was definitely a highlight for me.
Thorben Pleister, team leader in goods receipt, provides an insight into the initial situation and the integration of his department’s requirements.
Thanks to its flexibility, TUP’s combinable warehouse management software always delivers the most effective solution and is also highly reusable.

.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Grant Segall, The Plain DealerLong-time restaurateur Scott "Grumpy" Lindell" has turned Sachsenheim Hall
a venerable club in the Stockyards neighborhood for Transylvanian Germans
Cleveland creds: lived here from 1983 to 1985 and again since 1987
Schooling: attended University of Pittsburgh
Favorite locally owned restaurants (besides his own): Bruno's
Grumpy: When I first got a restaurant in Tremont
I was remodeling and fell through a staircase
I broke my ankle and spent the whole summer remodeling on crutches
Grumpy: I came in '83 to do the food service for Red Oak Camp at the Holden Arboretum
I came back in '87 and worked at the Watermark in the Flats
I opened the Calorie Gallery on Carnegie in '90
I had to chase drug dealers and prostitutes off the corner
Then all the sudden restaurants started sprouting up everywhere down there
It just wasn't as much fun as when I first opened
Grumpy: I'd been catering parties at the Sachsenheim while I still had Grumpy's
It'd been a private club for 100 years
I haven't had any incidents in the last couple years
Grumpy: They've redeveloped a lot of the neighborhood
Grumpy: I think I've had one fight in my 13 years here
Two young couples ended up getting married and having children conceived at the Saschenheim
Why didn't you stick to serving brats and schnitzel here
Grumpy: I started Taco Tuesday to get rid of chicken scraps
We also host the SNOBS: the Society of Northeast Ohio Brewers
[State] Senator [Michael] Skindell is a member here
Ed Asner stopped in for Sunday brunch at Grumpy's and talked to all the old ladies that came in
The cast of "Telling Lies in America" was eating at Grumpy's almost every day
Maximilian Schnell sat with the older folks and had coffee with them
But Kevin Bacon wouldn't give them autographs
I've fed a lot of the Indians over the years
I cook here and bring the food to the park
Food's changed a lot in Cleveland in the last 10
Now they're looking for a little more spice
The notoriety of Michael Symon and some other chefs has helped
[Food writer] Michael Ruhlman has helped a lot
Favorite local restaurants you haven't run
I generally go to the Spotted Dog on Clinton
I love Villa y Zapata on 85 and Madison; it's probably the best Mexican food in the city
Grumpy: I love the ethnicity of the city: the Irish areas
the clubs from different parts of Germany were almost feudally divided
Now they're finally showing a little camaraderie
But it seems young people don't embrace their culture any more
That's why a lot of these clubs are dying out
I threw the hammer and pole in the Scottish Games in Oberlin
You've got the advantage of it being a good-size city but not overly large like New York City
where you're lost and not really knowing anyone

The challenging developments in the European automotive sector are characterized by a very demanding market environment
Manufacturers and suppliers are adapting their production and business models
the industrial business is still not recovering
Feintool reviews its strategic capacity planning on a regular basis and is planning a change in production capacity allocation in Europe
The Feintool Group is facing major challenges in its European business for electric motors
due to several factors: political uncertainty in relation to electromobility and the transition to renewable energies
as well as an economic downturn in the industrial business
These unfavorable conditions have led to a slowdown or decline in sales of electric vehicles in some markets and the industrial business for electric motors is facing a sharp drop in turnover
Car manufacturers and their suppliers developed overcapacities
resulting in individual programs for battery electric vehicles being postponed
Ready for the future: realignment of the Business Unit Stamping
In response to the ongoing strained order and earnings situation
the Board of Directors and the Executive Board of Feintool International Holding AG decided at their meeting on December 2
2024 to realign the footprint of the Business Unit Stamping
which specializes in electrolamination stamping
The Business Unit Stamping includes the sites in Sachsenheim
Vaihingen and Jessen in Germany and the Tokod site in Hungary
As part of the realignment of the business unit
the competence centers for research and development and toolmaking as well as the highly automated automotive production will be pooled in Vaihingen (DE)
The unprofitable production in Sachsenheim - mainly due to external economic factors and the current conditions in Germany - will mainly be relocated to Tokod (H) and the Sachsenheim site will subsequently be closed
The transfer of production to the state-of-the-art plant in Tokod will ensure the long-term competitiveness of the business
which is subject to the consultation of employee representatives
would preserve a total of around 250 of the current 450 workplaces in Sachsenheim and Vaihingen
Feintool plans to implement the relocation in a socially responsible manner
The existing Feintool plant in Jessen (DE) is also affected by the realignment to a lesser extent
The necessary restructuring expenses will impact earnings in 2024 primarily
Actively shaping the technological transformation
The planned realignment requires time and careful preparation in coordination with customers and internal specialist departments
The change will lead to a sustainable improvement in the results of the Business Unit Stamping
this will lead to savings of CHF 15 million per year in the medium term
CEO Feintool: “Feintool is confronted with a very challenging market situation that requires decisive action
The decision to realign the Business Unit Stamping and to relocate parts of the production was carefully considered and taken
we are ensuring that Feintool will emerge stronger from the current challenging situation in a sustainable way and can actively shape the technological transformation in the automotive industry and the transition to renewable energies.”

The German automotive supplier Dräxlmaier will invest 200 million euros in the construction of a production site in the Romanian city of Timisoara over the next six years
Battery systems for electrified vehicles are to be produced there
The news was broken via a media report and a statement by the mayor of Timisoara
the project will be implemented in several stages and will involve the construction of more than 40,000 square metres of production
Who the batteries will be for was not revealed yet
Dräxlmaier has been producing 800-volt battery systems for the Porsche Taycan in Sachsenheim near Stuttgart since 2019
the Bavarian company has built their first battery assembly plant on an area of 10,000 square metres
In Leipzig, the automotive supplier plans to start assembling battery systems in July 2021 in a 28,000 square metre hall not far from the Porsche plant in the north of Leipzig. The battery systems are intended for the carmaker’s electric Macan. Dräxlmaier announced 180 workers at its topping-out ceremony for the plant last year
The Dräxlmaier Group has been developing storage systems since 2009
the design of the first prototypes was followed by concept orders for batteries in plug-in vehicles from premium brands
The Bavarians’ current customer base includes Audi
employs around 70,000 people at 60 locations in more than 20 countries

about the joint project of the multi-channel warehouse in Sachsenheim
who provides an insight into the collaboration from his strategic perspective
What is your position and role in the company
My name is Frank Postel and I am Breuninger’s Chief Technical Officer
What does digital product management involve
it includes all digital products with a focus on the retail environment
HR and finance systems to merchandise management
logistics systems and so-called consumer systems
as well as all CRM and customer interaction processes that we offer digitally to our employees via our in-house app and to our customers via our Breuninger app
That’s a good introduction to our joint project
the aim of which was to consolidate several locations in the Sachsenheim distribution center
we had a very fragmented logistics system that was to be centralized with the construction of our goods service center in Sachsenheim
During the set-up of the intralogistics and the corresponding IT systems
I took over responsibility for the project
what were your expectations regarding the collaboration with us
we operate one of the leading fashion service centers in Europe with a high degree of automation and correspondingly complex processes
we had fragmented logistics and low automation
expectations were very high for everyone involved
The benchmark for TUP was not only to develop the system side of the asset on the basis of which the current WMS was created
but also to bring comprehensive expertise to the project
it was particularly important to me that TUP would act as a partner at eye level and make the right decisions for Breuninger and the project even in difficult situations
How did the cooperation between TUP and Breuninger evolve on a personal and professional level
the way we work together is one of TUP’s strengths
they always acted in a solution-oriented and very cooperative manner
The project teams in particular worked very well together
The personal aspect was and is an important success factor here
TUP’s team members have a high level of expertise and
They have taken on and mastered the challenges of this major project with enormous personal commitment
response time and quality of the cooperation
I found the flexible and responsive manner in which TUP acted to be particularly positive: whenever we discussed scaling options
there was a high readiness to implement them
Such commitment cannot be taken for granted
as it requires enormous expertise and comprehensive knowledge in order to familiarize oneself with the respective subject matter
TUP made this investment in the situations in which we needed it
and we always achieved a strong result in this way
What were the important moments for you in the project phases
I followed the progress of the project on the basis of its key stages and evaluated it
the integration of the Warehouse Control System (WCS)
the materials handling technology and other components such as the small parts storage system (automatic bin storage)
special attention was paid to goods processing
as well as the final test phase and go-live
we at Breuninger had very ambitious e-commerce growth plans
our logistics were able to absorb this volume
An important proof that the solution that was designed and implemented was and still is a very sustainable one
were there any particular milestones or solutions that stood out
I would see the classic hot phases of such an implementation as milestones
we have massively adapted our process landscape at the time to the new possibilities
I find the enormous scalability that enabled us to handle this rush remarkable
what advantages do you see in the solutions we provide
We chose TUP because we liked this approach
which I would describe in my words as “asset software”
I mentioned at the beginning that with Sachsenheim we have a complex warehouse that unites both B2B and e-commerce logistics with all its facets under one roof
That is why we also need a system that is adaptable and does not map processes with a standardization claim
I believe that this was and is an essential success factor of the project
The individual customization of the TUP software gives us a high degree of flexibility and a high speed in implementing changes and adjustments
TUP.WMS was exactly what we needed – this is still evident today
TUP’s combinable warehouse management software always delivers the most effective solution and is also highly reusable
is starting series production of the 800-volt total battery system for the Porsche Taycan
the Bavarian company built their first battery assembly plant on an area of 10,000 sqm
highly automated production facilities have been set up in the building over the recent months: “The battery modules are set automatically
additional components are assembled and extensive tests are finally carried out
the new site will also house a development department dedicated to innovations in the battery sector,” a press statement said
Details of the overall battery system for the Porsche Taycan have neither been revealed by the supplier nor by Porsche to date
in January it leaked out that the series Taycan will be equipped with around 90 kWh battery capacity and a 22 kW charger (AC) on board
A short time later it was announced that the electric sports car would be available with two battery options
The following key performance data has been officially confirmed so far: Thanks to two electric machines with a system output of more than 440 kW
the Taycan accelerates to 100 km/h in “significantly less than 3.5 seconds” and 200 km/h in less than twelve seconds
The maximum range is over 500 kilometres according to NEDC
it should be possible to recharge sufficient energy for a range of 100 kilometres in four minutes on corresponding HPC fast chargers
According to information from electrive.net
the DC charging capacity has also already been determined: it will be 250 kW
Meanwhile, Porsche is in the process of setting up an infrastructural framework before the market launch of the Taycan, among other things by cooperating with Electrify America in the USA and awarding ABB a contract in Japan
The Dräxlmaier Group got involved in the development of energy storage systems at an early stage in 2009
the first prototypes were soon followed by concept orders for batteries in plug-in vehicles from premium brands
The Bavarian’s current customer base includes Audi
VW and several unspecified Californian automakers
the long-established company employs around 70,000 people at 60 locations in more than 20 countries

about the joint project for the multi-channel warehouse in Sachsenheim
In the second part of the interview series
who gives an insight into the previous situation and the integration of his department’s requirements
What is your position in the company and what tasks does it involve
I am the team leader in goods receipt and therefore the disciplinary and technical manager for the area
employee management and personnel planning
How and when did you join the project and where did you previously work
I was previously at the former location in Leinfelden
There were the first test environments and the open questions were: “What should the structure be like?”
“Are there any technical wishes we still have?” and “What should the systemic processes be like?”
Because we mostly deal with planners or software specialists
your expectations of the collaboration from an operational perspective are very interesting
was to work together in a solution-oriented and partnership-based manner
A solution-oriented approach is particularly important in our dynamic environment
Has this expectation also been fulfilled in the cooperation on a professional and personal level
that was definitely the case in the points of contact I had with TUP
we were always kept up to date on how things were progressing and which problems were being solved
I found it very positive that I was always kept informed and that issues were prioritized accordingly
the speed of response and also the quality of the collaboration
I never had the feeling that anything was stagnating or that things were being ignored or downplayed
Any issues or problems we had were taken up
We also always received feedback within a suitable timeframe
How was the transition from the old logistics world to the new one
We had a lot of manual processes that we had to solve with significantly more staff
The only way to handle a large volume there was with more people
technology has made a lot of things much easier for us
Is there a particular solution that stands out for you
comparing the old shipping system with the new one was a big talking point
We already had some standardization of the workstations at the old location
But for me it was simply great to see how we have optimized the routes here at the WDZ
that everything is standardized and digitally supported
that training is now easier and that a lot of thought has been given to throughput and productivity
I remember very well the first time I came into the new dispatch hall with the employees from the old locations and was briefly stunned into silence because we immediately realized what we could now achieve
How did you perceive the support during the various phases
I can say that it made no difference to me whether we were still in the go-live
the support and the feeling that everything was being handled promptly were always very good
Thank you very much for the interview and for your time
