will support the two turbine 12 MW wind farm in Heiden and the 6 MW Dorsten project in the North Rhine-Westphalia region in Western Germany
This is the 20th agreement that the two companies have signed for projects being developed by BBWind
GE Vernova’s Wind segment has a strong manufacturing presence in Germany with a 70,000 square metre facility in Salzbergen that manufactures machine heads
and hubs for the workhorse turbines it provides to customers in Germany and elsewhere in Europe and Asia
Germany installed approximately 3.2 GW of onshore wind in 2024 and is looking to accelerate the development of onshore wind as part of its plan to get up to 80 percent of its power from renewable energy resources by 2030
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to support BBWind in their efforts to develop community-led wind farms in communities close to our manufacturing facility in Salzbergen” said Gilan Sabatier
GE Vernova’s Chief Commercial Officer for onshore wind
“Our workhorse turbines are ideally suited to meet the needs of Germany’s rapidly growing onshore wind sector and our teams in Salzbergen are ready to contribute to the country’s ambitious wind energy goals.”
GE Vernova's Wind segment has a total installed base of approximately 57,000 turbines and more than 120 GW of installed capacity worldwide
“We are pleased by the close cooperation with our partner GE Vernova
who over the last years has a key contributor to the successful implementation of the locally owned community wind farms of our customers” added Michael Schluess
“Besides the 20 projects already implemented or under construction
we are looking forward to continuing our close cooperation with further projects in the coming years.”

test institute ISP has inaugurated the first of two phases of its new battery test center (BTC) in Salzbergen
The project involved adding 5,200m2 to the existing facility and installing new test benches for EV battery analysis
A virtual opening ceremony and guided tour on March 25 was attended by the Mayor of Salzbergen
district administrator Marc-André Burgdorf and member of the state parliament Christian Fühner
gave a detailed behind-the-scenes insight into the new facility
approximately 70 tonnes of copper and aluminum have been installed in addition to the state-of-the-art equipment.”
Equipment in the central test stand hall enables functional
durability and safety testing of lithium-ion batteries
Data from the company’s portfolio of 78 battery test rigs is collected in the control room and analyzed fully automatically
we can simulate any climatic region in the world in terms of temperature and humidity in our test chambers
This enables practically any electrical load to be simulated
Work is also underway on the next phase of the BTC: a test area for environmental
which is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2022
The project not only expands ISP’s portfolio of testing facilities but also enables the company to take a more holistic approach to the development of energy storage systems
“It is our largest single investment to date in a business field that is new to the company
This day is a special milestone for the company
We are convinced that the mobility of tomorrow will be largely battery-electric
With the new facility we are making a contribution to increasing sustainability and climate protection
Employees and the economy in the region will also benefit from the expansion of the company’s portfolio,” said Dr Tono Nasch

A relative of a World War II hero killed in a bombing raid in Germany has spoken of her pride after she was tracked down and informed a memorial had been unveiled at the crash site
RAF Flight Sergeant Frederick Wall died in March 1945 when his Lancaster Bomber was shot down while attacking an oil plant at Salzbergen
The family of Sergeant Wall was finally tracked down after a worldwide appeal by Sutton Council in south London managed to find his cousin
Ninety-six-year-old Alice Perkins was traced and told a memorial has been unveiled at the crash site in honour of her cousin and his comrades
said: “I was touched to hear they were honoured in such a way
“I remember clearly being with Fred at a party shortly before his last flight and he mentioned that he ‘better enjoy himself as it might be his last chance’.”
All seven crew members on board were killed
They were temporarily buried at the crash site before being moved to the British Reichswald War Cemetery near Kleve
Authorities in Germany organised for a memorial to be unveiled at the crash site to honour the men’s sacrifice but could find little trace of Sergeant Wall’s family
It led Alice Perkins’ son Graham to contact the council as well as the discovery of the final photograph of the crew
Information was also received from sources in the USA and Canada
said: “I’m really glad that we have been able to find his relatives
It was a bit of a needle-in-a-haystack situation
but thanks to a lot of hard work and some luck
Sergeant Wall’s family now know about the memorial which honours the great sacrifice that he made for his country.”
Sutton Council’s archive staff discovered that Sergeant Wall
was a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Unit 514 Squadron
The plane was an Avro Lancaster Mk III which took off from Waterbeach in Cambridgeshire
Newspaper reports said 119 Lancasters of No
attacked the Wintershall oil refinery north-west of Munster in broad daylight
After the attack “volumes of thick black smoke were seen rising above the clouds”
Sergeant Wall’s was the only one of the Lancasters to be lost
He is buried in grave 13.E.7 at the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery
the largest Commonwealth cemetery in Germany
