CHESTER, Pa. (June 20, 2019) – Philadelphia Union today announced that the club has signed forward Andrew Wooten (pronounced: VOO-ten). Formerly of Germany’s SV Sandhausen, Wooten was signed using Targeted Allocation Money. He will be added to the active roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate when the July 9 Secondary Transfer Window opens.
The 29-year-old forward joins the Union following a standout 2018-19 season in the 2. Bundesliga, where he scored 17 goals in 31 appearances for Sandhausen, including 13 goals in 18 games to close the campaign. He tied for fourth in the league in overall goal-scoring.
“We are delighted to complete this signing and we’d like to officially welcome Andrew to the Union,” said Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director. “He is a strong forward who had interest from many teams around the world, so to have him choose Philadelphia as the next stop in his career is a tremendous compliment. We are all looking forward to integrating Andrew as quickly as possible and having him ready to play as soon as he is eligible following the opening of the transfer window.”
A German-American, Wooten was born and raised in Germany but also holds American citizenship through his father, who served in the U.S. military. He began his professional career with the fourth-division Wormatia Worms in Germany in 2008, playing for the club for two years.
During the 2012 summer, he joined Sandhausen on loan, scoring seven goals in the 2. Bundesliga during his first year with the club. He then joined FSV Frankfurt for a brief loan spell before transferring to Sandhausen permanently before 2014-15. Wooten has been a consistent contributor for the club ever since, scored eight, six and nine goals respectively over the following three seasons. After missing most of 2017-18 with an injury, he broke out last year with his 17-goal campaign.
Internationally, Wooten has earned one cap for the United States, appearing as a substitute against Costa Rica on October 13, 2015.

The Boys in Brown have a match-free weekend following the 5-0 win at SV Sandhausen but are still training hard, of course. After Tuesday afternoon's session, defender Jakov Medić sat down with the media for a chat.
...the strong defence with just three goals conceded since the resumption: "We work hard every day and focus on our defending. We all work together off the ball, from the forwards, who are our first line of defence, to the goalkeeper. We're doing really well."
...winter signing Karol Mets: "He's a very experienced player who’s doing an excellent job. He's felt really good ever since he arrived and shows it in every game. With Eric between us, we all communicate very well and help each other. We speak English and German - it's a mix."
...the role played by luck in the winning run: "We've had a bit of luck in some situations, but the results are mainly a product of hard work. Every player knows what to do. We analyse every game really well and are doing a good job."
...his flexibility and finishing qualities, as in Magdeburg: "I played in attack when I was younger and also started a few games up front at Wehen Wiesbaden. I know how I have to move and how defenders move. I also played in midfield at Wehen Wiesbaden, so I can play a few positions. At Magdeburg, I knew I had space and Cello was capable of playing the pass. I was in the right place and I scored, but first and foremost I'm there to defend not to score goals."
...the changes under Fabian Hürzeler: "He's a young coach and the way he looks at football is really good. He has his own opinions on football and the game, be it build-up play or other tactical things, and he's putting them into practice with us. We're doing really well and obviously want to keep it going."
Jakov Medić also got the winner when the second round-robin started at Nürnberg, not just in the 2-1 win at Magdeburg.
...the switch to a back three: "That was the coach's decision. If he says it's best for the team, then we give it all we've got. I feel comfortable in a back three. I think it's better with three central players because you have an extra man. In a back four, there are only two of you in the middle, which isn't always easy to defend."
...his footballing future and the interest shown by Bundesliga clubs: "I don't want to focus too much on my future. The here and now and St. Pauli's next game are what's important. I feel really good here and have played every game since my injury. I want to keep going the way I have been and do my best for the club."
...the national team: "There was no contact before the international break. To play for the national team and my country would be very special. It's very hard to get into the Croatian team. They have a lot of really good players and a number of stars. I'm always ready, but it's out of my hands."

met with local historians and a village official on Friday to share a connection between the two municipalities located thousands of miles apart
an urban planner for the City of Sandhausen

He said some historians believe that Johan and Catherine actually came from Leiman
but he believes that was simply where they attended church
Johan and Catherine were among the wave of Palatine Germans that immigrated to New York due to warfare and economic hardship at the time
Hager – who does research on the city’s historical residents – showed that Gen

The sign spells Herkimer’s name as "Herchheimer" and notes
that the street is named after the general who lived from approximately 1727 to 1777 and was a "held" - German for "hero" – in the Mohawk Valley
Hager also shared a booklet showing the city’s 750th anniversary celebration – Sandhausen was founded in 1262 – that included a theater play that centered on Gen
"We’re proud Herkimer has roots in Sandhausen

Hager said he wanted to see if a trip to Herkimer was possible and found it was "not far from our route" and decided to make the visit

Hager noted some of the influence the Palatine Germans may have had in the area

There is movement in Bayern’s coaching ranks
from the senior side to the youth teams as well
In an unsurprising turn of events, Bayern Munich have confirmed that the U-19 head coach Danny Galm has left the club
having mutually agreed to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract
Having arrived from TSG Hoffenheim’s academy and been the U-19 head coach for two years now
had this to say: “Multiple of our youth coaches have moved on to bigger things in professional football over the years
This shows that we are not just successful at developing young players [but coaches as well]
We wish Danny all the best and thank him for his tireless work for the past two years.”
intensive and intellectually stimulating time in Munich
I was able to work with some great people and develop my skills
as well as learning what it was like to be part of the ‘Bayern family’
A big thank you goes to my players and coaching team team for open and honest communication
Now I look forward to a new challenge in Sandhausen
A report from Tobi Altschäffl states that the future new U-19 head coach will be current U-17 head coach Michael Hartmann
whose former position will now have to be filled
Patrick Kaniuth should arrive from Mainz 05 to coach the U-16s
The U-19 Bayern side really struggled under Danny Galm
finishing in rather disappointing positions in the table and failing to play well as a team
Considering just how talented this team was
Paul Wanner and Arijon Ibrahimović in starring roles throughout
the team’s performances were extremely disappointing
it’s better to have Galm move on and have someone else (Hartmann) try something else
Galm also managed to land a big job in Sandhausen
There Galm can hopefully prove that his struggles in Munich were just the case of him and the team not clicking
rather than an indictment on his coaching ability
Manolis Saliakas has contributed to the winning run with some fine performances of late and scored his first goal in the 2-1 defeat of Fürth at the Millerntor last time out
the Greek right-back sat down with the media for a chat
...seven wins in a row and scoring against Fürth: "We're obviously all happy things are going so well at the moment
I'm so glad to get on the scoresheet as well and I think that shows."
...the chance of setting a new club record of eight successive wins: "We aren't talking about the record
We’re prepared for every game we play and obviously want to make it eight wins in a row."
...the reasons for the outstanding second half of the season: "The mentality within the squad is a factor
We had to show mental strength to stave off the threat of relegation and that’s the mentality we had when the season started again
For me that's the main reason the second half of the season has been so good."
...the risk of getting overconfident: "I don't think the confidence we’re showing can turn into cockiness
That could have happened after five wins in a row as well
...the chances of underestimating bottom side Sandhausen: "It can only become a banana skin if we don't listen to the coach and don't do what we're asked to do
Sandhausen will do their utmost to take the three points
so we have to prepare for the game especially well
We're putting all our energy into the preparations in the knowledge that we then go into an international break."
Manolis Saliakas celebrates with the fans after the 2-1 home win over Fürth
...the progress he has made since joining the club: "I see that I’m making progress and it makes me happy to see it but I know I'm capable of even more and I want to prove that to myself."
...his quiet nature: "I'm generally a very modest person and quite reserved
but I show another side to myself when we win."
...not being picked for the national team: "I'm obviously sad and disappointed it hasn't worked out
I was named in the provisional squad but not in the final one
I was told the coach decided on two other players because they're a better fit for his plans and might even be better players
but I'm not questioning or doubting myself because I know how I'm performing here
For me it's another incentive to do better and prove myself
I'll give it my best shot because I want to get back into the national team."
...on whether he feels homesick during the long winter: "I feel very much at home here
The warmth comes from the people around me
that Galm has now been fired from his position
This decision came immediately after a 2-2 draw with SC Verl
SV Sandhausen sit in 11th position with 16 points after 12 games
Bundesliga for the very first time in the club’s history and it managed to stay in the division for an entire decade
This perhaps would explain why sporting director Matthias Imhof decreed via SV Sandhausen’s official website that “our sporting goals are deeply in jeopardy”
The club’s expectations of promotion are not being met
though frankly it seems that such goals are far beyond the club’s current capabilities
He will have to find a new job with ideally less trigger happy bosses

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a defeat in their first pre-season friendly
going down 2-1 to German third division side SV Sandhausen 1916 in what was the first game after Rulani Mokwena’s departure
It was a cagey opening 30 minutes against the Bundesliga 3 side
with both teams hardly testing each other and a lot of switches of the ball
the game came somewhat to life before the break Sandhausen hit the post from a powerful header after 21 minutes
The German side opened the scoring via Tim Maciejewski after 32 minutes when Sundowns’ defence failed to clear the ball following a corner
Masandawana scored the 1-1 equaliser after the break via Tashreeq Matthews following a fast-paced attack
Sandhausen once again exposed some weaknesses from the DStv Premiership champions at the back when Dominic Baumann made it 2-1 after another corner
It was Masandawana’s first friendly in Austria
Their next friendly already follows on Wednesday
when the SA giants will take on 19-time Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kyiv

but Bayern get priority if SC Freiburg decide to sell him
Per a new report from kicker, Bayern Munich’s reserve team is interested in bringing back 20-year old Woo-Yeong Jong from SC Freiburg
The South Korean striker joined Freiburg last summer on Bayern’s reserve team and spent most of his time playing for Freiburg’s reserves in the 3
Liga before getting loaned back to Bayern in January
Bayern are interested in bringing him back
Bundesliga side SV Sandhausen is also keen on acquiring Jeong’s services for next season
They would like to bring him in on a loan deal so that he can become a regular starter at a 2
face a potential road block from Bayern in the race to sign him
there was an agreement attached to the deal that said Bayern would have premium access rights as soon as he was for sale once again
Bayern has first access to Jeong if and when he’s up for sale with that right in the initial deal
Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach is hopeful that Bayern and Sandhausen can work out an agreement between the two of them
From Hartenbach’s and Freiburg’s perspective
they feel loaning him out to Sandhausen would be the most beneficial option for all parties involved because Jeong would be a regular feature in the 2
“If Woo-Yeong [in] 2021 is a second division regular
Freiburg and FC Bayern will benefit in the second step.”
especially since Bayern are mainly interested in Jeong’s continued development
He’d be better off getting experience as a starter in the 2
could also be using this as a selling tactic because they’ve just had a plethora of players from their first and second teams loaned out to other clubs throughout the German leagues
Hopefully an agreement is reached between all clubs and Jeong is able to go where it’s best for him at this juncture

Philadelphia Union have signed German-American striker Andrew Wooten
Wooten, 29, joins the Union from Bundesliga 2 side SV Sandhausen, where he scored 17 goals in 31 appearances in the 2018-19 season, including 13 goals in his last 18 games
“He is a strong forward who had interest from many teams around the world
so to have him choose Philadelphia as the next stop in his career is a tremendous compliment,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a statement released by the club
“We are all looking forward to integrating Andrew as quickly as possible and having him ready to play as soon as he is eligible following the opening of the transfer window.”
The summer transfer window opens July 9 in the United States
meaning Wooten would be eligible to play against Salt Lake on July 13
The Union closed the deal using targeted allocation money
Wooten will not take up an international roster spot
https://twitter.com/PhilaUnion/status/1141872352743034880
the son of an American military serviceman and a German woman
He has played primarily for Sandhausen since first joining them on loan in 2012
subsequently signing on full transfer with them in 2014
and team officials have gone on record as wanting to retain him
He joins a team in need of a reliable striker
The Union entered the season with a deep depth chart at striker
Sapong to Chicago just before the season started and then dealt David Accam to Columbus a few weeks ago
Accam had been playing as a winger and second striker
striker Cory Burke ran into as yet unspecified visa problems and will be unavailable to the Union for at least two months
That has left the Union forward corps with new foreign imports Sergio Santos and Kacper Przybylko and winger Fafa Picault
While Picault has featured as a second striker often this season
he has had trouble finishing once in scoring positions
Santos is still working his way back to full sharpness after preseason injury problems
breaking out with goals in each of his first three MLS starts
but he has scored just once in his last six
Union head coach Jim Curtin sent out little-used midfielder Anthony Fontana as a striker during the team’s U.S
the Union lead the Eastern Conference in goals scored and still sit in first place in the East
Ernst isn’t your daddy’s Philadelphia Union sporting director
That highlight video was nice because it seems to me he scores in a bunch of different ways
he crosses his body well to shoot counter to movement
and it looks like he can shoot from the first touch
which the Union has needed forever from their strikers
I am waiting to explain to my grandchildren that “those are not boos that you are hearing
they are ‘Wooooos’ to go along with the doops.” Good luck
Based on the recent signings that Tanner and Albright have made
I would expect Wooten to be an important contributor
Since he has caps from USMNT he has a US Passport
so the state department shouldn’t be a problem
One of the many pleasant surprises this season

The attacker will be heading home after falling at the group stage
but it's been an interesting ride along the way
SV Sandhausen’s manager has joked that plans are in place to expand their stadium due to the number of female admirers Iceland’s Rurik Gislason has gained during the World Cup
Gislason’s national side have crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage
but it is not all bad news for the attacker
Playing on a world stage has seen him become something of an internet sensation
with his Instagram page surpassing one million followers and the hashtag #sexyrurik has been trending
has reacted to the hype with a sense of humour
"We are ready for the onslaught of all his female fans - the plans to expand the stadium are already in place!" he told Sport Bild with a wink
“At least the whole world knows how beautiful football is in Sandhausen!"
The club themselves got involved in the fun on twitter
Taken from Iceland’s opening game with Argentina
Gislason is pictured alongside Lionel Messi
with the caption saying: "He is a gifted footballer and delighted the hearts of the fans at this World Cup

and the attacker has attempted to play it down
A post shared by Rurik Gislason (@rurikgislason) on Jun 12
The 30-year-old has been all around Europe during his career
FC Nurnberg and he even had a two-year spell at Charlton between 2005-2007
but failed to make a single senior appearance for the Londoners
Gislason was not included in Iceland’s squad for the European Championships in 2016
but since making his debut in 2009 he has been capped 49 times for his national team
He made the move to Sandhausen in January of 2018 and his boss Kocak is full of praise for his midfielder from a footballing standpoint
“[Gislason] is a real team player and an absolute winner for our team
We pay less attention to the externalities."
The 20-year-old will get the trial that could potentially take him into first-team action
If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement
He will also be eligible to play in Sandhausen's friendly against Stuttgarter Kickers
"Bayern want him to receive practice at a higher level," said executive director Otmar Schork
Schalke 04 forward prospect Donis Avdijaj is expected to join Weihrauch in his Sandhausen excursion
The report suggests that both are on Schork's radar for a possible loan
Weihrauch received a two-year professional contract in 2012 directly from the U19 team
but has failed to make a big enough impact to progress into the first team
he has played 2941 minutes in 41 appearances
Vitesse of the Eredivisie was reportedly sniffing around Weihrauch last season
but the 20-year-old ultimately went unsigned in the summer once he was out of contract
Bayern then signed him to a two-year amateur contract with the reserves before their first match in mid-July
Weihrauch was once in the first-team picture
training with the first team at times with Jupp Heynckes at the helm
He has since struggled to string a good run of form together
struggling with injury and unable to overcome the likes of Julian Green
He did manage to get the nod for both legs of the Regionalliga promotion playoff against Fortuna Köln
and the reserves crashed back to the fourth tier
With Ylli Sallahi already off to Karlsruher SC
and Michael Eberwein potentially breaking into the reserves

Mamelodi-Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns started first pre-season tour with a 2-1 loss to German third division club SV Sandhausen on Tuesday evening. A number of fringe players for Masandawana earned a start
Lebohang Maboe with youngsters Siyabonga Mabena
Ntando Nkosi and Malibongwe Khoza featuring too.
Sundowns weren't able to hit the ground running possession wise
but instead a number of stray passes led to a sufficient loss of forward momentum.

The German club enjoyed strong opening couple of minutes and pushed forward repeatedly before managing to draw Pieterse to a save through persistent penetration up top.
Pieterse was put to work again on the half-hour mark where he had to lean back to palm a first-time volley from the edge of the area by Tim Maciejewski behind for a corner-kick.
From the subsequent corner, the deadlock came as a defensive scramble caught Masandawana napping allowing the self-same Maciejewski the easiest of finishes.
In the second half, Sundowns looked to go level and made a number of changes with amongst others flying full-back Thapelo Morena introduced.
Morena didn't waste time to impact proceedings but put on the after-burner on the right-side and cutback for Tashreeq Matthews to curl in the top corner.
However, the German club managed to bounce back and regained the lead a persistent spell of pressure saw Dominicn Baumann finished off a corner.
The Brazilians weren't able to mount any comeback on this occasion and unfortunately started their first pre-season outing with defeat.

Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday evening as our visitors make the long journey for our Matchday 6 fixture
HSV will be rejuvenated with the new deadline day signings of Mario Vuskovic and Tommy Doyle as Tim Walter’s side aim to better their draw last time out vs 1.FC Heidnheim
Sandhausen haven’t fully got their season going yet with a brand new squad of players
they come to Hamburg off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to new arrivals FC Ingolstadt
SV Sandhausen led by Co-Trainers (Co-Managers) Gerhard Kleppinger and Stefan Kulovits were an extremely busy team early on in the summer transfer window
No less that 14 new aquasitions for the team in black and white before the season started
Notable names such as Cebio Soukou ( Arminia Bielefeld)
Pascal Testroet (Aue) and 3x Swiss Champion Gianluca Gaudio (BSC Young Boys)
the latter a former Bayern München youth talent.
Sandhausen haven’t quite got to grips with the season so far
Three defeats and a draw cancel out their only three points of the season
which came one the road in a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Erzgebirge Aue
Before the International break the side from Baden-Württemberg suffered a 2-0 defeat to the league’s newcomers FC Ingolstadt.
Sandhausen have a history of causing problems for HSV though
our last meeting saw the visitors victorious in a 2-1 victory at the BWT Stadion im Hartwald
while a 5-1 defeat on the final matchday of the 2019/20 season ruined HSV’S hopes for promotion that year
A side not to be underestimated for sure.
Head coach Tim Walter stated in Thursday’s Press conference that his side will be without Finnish U21 star Anssi Suhonen who will picked up a thigh knock during his impressive time with his nation during the international break
Both new signings could make the squad but Walter was unable to confirm whether both would feature
having only been training for a short period of time
Both Stephan Ambrosius and Josha Vagnoman remain sidelined
Although also stating during Thursday’s press conference that respect must be shown to our opponents this is primarily a game that he would be looking to take all three points.
Mikkel Kaufmann also returned to the HSV Training center following their successful times with their national teams U21 also.
Restless Red Shorts HSV have not lacked will and commitment in the first five 2
The Hamburg team covered a whopping 595.32 kilometres - the best figure in the 2
ahead of the competition from Heidenheim (593.19 km) and Dresden (591.96)
the upcoming guests from Sandhausen occupy second-to-last place in the table in this statistic with around 40 fewer kilometres ran
Only Werder Bremen (554.12) runs even less as a team
A Brotherly Duel On Saturday it's not only HSV vs
The two brothers will meet for the first time in a professional match
transferred from KFC Uerdingen to the Kurpfälzer in the summer of this year and has played in three league games so far
Fun fact: Both brothers played for SV Wehen Wiesbaden in their youth and then moved to the youth team of 1
A Return for Diekmeier A special match for SVS captain Dennis Diekmeier
Diekmeier played 184 competitive games for the Reds
The native of Thedinghausen waited in vain for a goal of his own at HSV
for whom he has been active since the beginning of 2019
he ended his goal curse on 26 May 2020 when he scored for the first time in his 294th professional game

German-American forward Andrew Wooten is nearing a deal with the Philadelphia Union, according to a report in ProSoccerUSA
which included the lovely little chip in the video below
The club confirmed his departure in a social media post on Thursday and noted that he would be going to MLS without naming the team
Träume sind da, um gelebt zu werden! Alles erdenklich Gute und viel Erfolg in der @MLS, Andrew #Wooten! Für immer einer von uns! ⚪___________#SVS1916 pic.twitter.com/UDSs5wsPrE
He has also been linked in reports to the Chicago Fire
Listed as a center forward who can also play as a right or left winger
Wooten would join a Union front line that has been inconsistent in front of goal this season
is tied for the team lead in goals from the forward position with Kacper Pryzbylko while Sergio Santos has three and Fafa Picault has just one after being tied with Cory Burke for the team lead last year with 10
but is still unavailable because of visa issues and may miss most of the rest of the season
That Wooten would not require an international roster spot is key since the Union still have 10 international players and nine spots on the first team roster
which forces them to loan players down to Bethlehem Steel to stay roster compliant
Wooten’s lone appearance for the USMNT came in a friendly against Costa Rica on October 13
A COUPLE has been arrested on suspicion of killing a Ukrainian refugee so they could allegedly steal her five-week-old baby girl
was found dead after her body was cruelly dumped near a military base in Hockenheim
conspired to kill the young mum and steal her daughter
Margarita had only arrived in Germany four months ago from Slovakia
She had a little girl Mia - who was allegedly found with Ina
But Margarita's mother Maryna Stetsenko
remains missing with the crime shocking Germany
Ina and Marco were bragging about having a "new baby daughter"
Armed police then raided the couple's home in Sandhausen - arresting Marco before later finding Ina and Mia
According to police, Margarita died from “external violence".
A neighbour told BILD: “On Wednesday evening, around 7 pm, several cars stopped in front of the house with squealing tires and numerous masked men got out.
my neighbour was sitting in front of the house with his hands tied
It wasn't until I called the police that I found out it was a police operation
"At first I feared it was a bad attack.”
Another neighbour told local media: "When the masked police stormed the house
“Nobody knows where the mother was with the baby and the other sons.”
They added: "What is certain is that the boys also lost their mother and father, as their parents are unlikely to get out of prison any time soon
Local media said that Ina and Marco only moved into the semi detached rental house three months ago with their two sons, aged eight and 18 and their three dogs
They were said to be considered exemplary parents who care lovingly for their children
A resident told local media that shortly before Margarita's body was found, Marco O. had allegedly bragged to neighbours about having a new baby daughter
He also allegedly claimed to colleagues that the newborn was still in the intensive care unit
A neighbour told BILD: “The couple has three sons
the husband told me in December that they would have a girl in January
"He proudly showed me a pink baby hat for the child
"I was still surprised because his wife didn't look pregnant at all. But I never expected such a crime
The couple were always very polite and seemed nice.”
Another local said that his wife has scolded him for divulging the information
saying: "The woman was always very polite
When her husband proudly told us about the new baby
We had no idea why she was so upset about her husband's chatter
I felt sorry for the man for having such a fury as his wife.”
The neighbour, a woman who preferred to remain anonymous
said: "The suggestion that the two stole a child
killed the baby's biological mother and probably also the grandmother
that makes everyone here sad and stunned."
and the baby were last seen in a restaurant
reportedly accompanied by a woman from Walldorf
The police are still searching for her and have asked for witnesses with any information to come forward

Sandhausen defender Markus Karl speaks about his time at Hamburger SV
the features of the second division and the upcoming game on Sunday
Markus Karl is the most experienced player in the Sandhausen ranks having played 263 2
The 32-year-old centre back moved to the smallest town in the 2
Bundesliga in the summer of 2016 but he has also pulled on the shirt of SpVgg Greuther Fürth
The Bavarian has also 5 Bundesliga appearances to his name
which he gained in the 2005/6 and 2006/7 seasons playing for HSV
Before the encounter against his former club on Sunday
Karl speaks to HSV.de about his memories of HSV
the features of the second division and his expectations for the match
you played for Hamburger SV for a year and a half between 2005 and 2006
What memories do you have of your time in Hamburg
At this point everything was all new to me as I had just moved to HSV from the youth set-up at Greuther Fürth
Hamburg was a beautiful city and I had a great time with the team which I look back on with fondness
I still know a few members of staff and I am looking forward to seeing them again on Sunday
HSV lost their opening game 3-0 to Holstein Kiel
What is your take on the start die Rothosen have made
I do not regard the loss as a total catastrophe
which is how it is being portrayed by the media
It is obviously difficult to lose the first match of the season at home 3-0
however if HSV had taken one of their chances in the first half
it could have been a completely different story
You have made 263 appearances in the second tier
What do you think are the most important attributes to have to survive in this division
There is no single formula that leads to guaranteed promotion
I do believe that a lot of it is about attitude and putting challenges in
If a team can find a way to play football in these tight games
they have got a great chance of doing well
SV Sandhausen did not start the season well either with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Greuther Fürth
You played the full 90 minutes against your former team
I thought it was a good away performance up until the 75th minute then two lapses in concentration lost us the game
The heat made it tough to chase the game after falling behind
We want to show on Sunday that we can eradicate the small mistakes and make sure the points stay in Hardtwald
SV Sandhausen are one of the smallest clubs in the 2
Bundesliga but managed to successfully establish themselves in the league last season
we have become a real unit that has been constantly developing over the past two or three years
We want to solidify and have another successful season without worry of relegation
We know where we have come from and that has put us in good stead up to now
A big proportion of the success is down to manager Kenan Kocak who is
we will definitely see Kenan in the Bundesliga
He works meticulously and has exceptional knowledge of the game
how do you expect the game to go this coming Sunday
I am expecting a brilliant atmosphere in a sold-out stadium as HSV will bring lots of fans
We are all excited to play such a huge club in the BWT-Stadion am Hartwald and we will push Hamburg all the way in order to keep the points in Sandhausen

VfB Stuttgart striker Alou Kuol will spend the remainder of the 2021-22 season with 2
The former A-League striker has been loaned to the club after an impressive start for Stuttgart's second team
More news on Aussies Abroad can be found on FTBL.
The 21-year old Kuol made the move to Germany ahead of this 2021-22 Bundesliga season
The attacker had made 30 A-League appearances for the Central Coast Mariners in the two A-League seasons prior to his European move
Since arriving in Germany he has played exclusively for the Stuttgart II
in the Regionalliga Südwest the third division of German football
With 19 Regionalliga South-west appearances and 7 goals under his belt
Stuttgart are now sending their striker up one division to the 2
Speaking upon the loan deal, Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat stated:
“Since his move from Australia in the summer
Alou has given a very good account of himself both in training sessions and in our U21s’ matches
Bundesliga is absolutely the right challenge for Alou now and makes a lot of sense for his continued development.”
SV Sandhausen's sporting director Mikayil Kabaca echoed Mislintat's statements
"Alou made a highly motivated impression right from the start
given the opportunity to prove himself at SV Sandhausen," stated Kabaca
who agreed to loan Alou until the end of the season
Kuol also spoke upon his move to the German side:
"I am very grateful to SV Sandhausen that I have the opportunity to play in the second division
"I want to prove myself here and help the club achieve its sporting goals."
The Sudanese-born Australian has been loaned to SV Sandhausen until the end of the 2021-22 2
SV Sandhausen are currently 16th out of 18 teams in the Bundesliga 2
An Aussie on Aussie match-up could occur in April
when the club will face Jakson Irvine's St Pauli
Kuol's younger brother Garang currently plays for the A-League's Central Coast Mariners
The 17-year old has made two FFA Cup appearances this season for the club

Robert Glatzel talks about his mindset as a striker
the feeling of scoring a goal and the away game at SV Sandhausen
Robert Glatzel (28) has once again experienced the full range of a striker's life up close
While the Rothosen's top attacker (14 goals) was the celebrated hero after the match against Darmstadt 98 thanks to his historic four goals and could be found on every front page
he did not record a major chance of his own in the home match against Heidenheim (2:0)
Glatzel played a big part in the success with his team-serving style of play and was praised for it
he reveals how he experienced and came to terms with those days
why scoring goals only came to the fore later on and what he believes must be the foundation of success
there has been a lot of hype about you in the last two weeks
With your four goals in the 5-0 win in Darmstadt
What has happened to the ball you secured in the meantime?
Glatzel: The ball has been signed by the team and is in my cellar
I have a football box there in which I've kept souvenirs from the football years
There are a few jerseys in there as well as newspaper articles and other small souvenirs like stadium newspapers or cool pictures.
How did the days after this historic event feel?
(laughs) But I was able to tick it off quickly
it was of course unique and something very special.
In sport there is this saying: "You are only as good as your last game." Do you worry about putting that personal success down quickly and at what point did you flip that switch?
I flipped the switch after just one or two days
We have many more goals and so the focus is on that.
With what kind of mindset do you go into the next game
You probably know yourself that you won't succeed like that again
Of course you are watched a bit more and everyone says: Last game he scored four goals
My mindset was: There will probably be one or two good chances
Against Heidenheim it was now the only game where I didn't have a good or very good chance to score because they just defended well
But the chances will come again and then I have to be fully concentrated.
You mentioned the home game against Heidenheim
but the reports about you were very positive
because you had a big impact on the game - not least because of your pass that started the 1:0
Was this game an example that a striker should not only be measured by his goals?
You might think you can score another goal or two because you have a flow
I was really pleased that we played such a good game as a team and that I was able to play my part even without scoring
especially because it was also against a direct competitor
who also drops sometimes and is very much into the duels
Is that an aspect you had to learn during your career?
It's always been in me because I wasn't always a striker
Scoring goals came relatively late in my development because I played a lot on the football pitch
It was always about playing creatively and being involved in everything
Only goal scoring was still in the background
Whether an assist or a goal is more beautiful should be a rhetorical question for a striker - but can you get a similar feeling from an assist?
(laughs) A goal is by far the most beautiful moment in football
because sometimes you play well for several games but don't score a goal
You were really tackled against Heidenheim
Do Schmidt and your old companions know you too well
The defenders ran everywhere with every opponent
That's why there weren't so many spaces for me as a striker
the defenders went with me and there was space for Baka
I was really happy about that because Heidenheim are hard to break down.
Now the next game is just around the corner
What can you expect in Sandhausen?
stay with ourselves and not think about anything else
and then use the self-confidence we've already gained to make the difference
Who is responsible for this mentality within the team
The coach says and emphasises it again and again in every analysis
They know how quickly things can go in the other direction in football
You can't expect anything from the victories.
