The takeover of the aluminium die casting specialist by Millson Technologies fell through due to the struggling German car market
has filed for insolvency under self-administration
the takeover by the Chinese company Millison Technologies fell through last week
due to the difficult situation in the German car market
The failed deal led to loans no longer being extended due to a lack of profitability and competitiveness
The Saarland Ministry of Econ0mic Affairs described the rejection to Saarbrücker Zeitung as a setback
Now a new solution for the aluminium die casting specialist
The restructuring consultant Matthias Bayer said that Voit has entered self-administration proceedings
which he said would allow the firm to take a deep breath after some grueling weeks
a plan for restructuring the company will be drawn up with the aim of saving as many jobs as possible
The potential collapse of the company threatens over 2,000 jobs
while others are employed in France and Poland
The employees' wages will be secured until March via the insolvency substitute benefits
salaries will then be paid by the company again
Every sixth insolvency from the automotive industry
According to management consultants Falkenstein
one in six insolvencies in Germany in 2024 was an automotive supplier
there were 65% more insolvencies in this sector than in the previous year
Falkenstein projects a further increase in insolvencies in 2025
the company is currently a supplier for 45 brands
The provisional administrator proceedings are said to be handled by Martin Kaltwasser of the law firm Lieser

Aloyzas Kveinys, Lithuania's highest-rated grandmaster, a five-time Lithuanian champion, a former member of the national team and chess trainer, died on Thursday at the age of 56. His death, caused by a heart attack, was confirmed by the Lithuanian Chess Federation
1962. Awarded the Soviet Master of Sport title for chess in 1981
he was one of many promising Soviet masters who started to travel all around Europe after the collapse of the Iron Curtain
he earned the IM title in 1990. By that time
he had already won the national championship twice
in 1983 (shared with Eduardas Rozentalis) and 1986
He would later add three more national titles: 2001 (shared with Sarunas Sulskis)
That was also the year when he made his debut for the Lithuanian Olympic team
in Manila—the same Olympiad where Vladimir Kramnik made his famous
Kveinys would play in eight Olympiads in total (1992
2006 and 2008) and scored 51.5/97. He has also represented Lithuania in five European Team Chess Championships
There's a variation in the Sicilian named after Kveinys: 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Qb6. The main idea is to chase the knight away from d4 and prevent Bc1-e3 for the moment
Kveinys played this line between 1986 and 2002 and had a decent score with it: 16 wins
14 draws and 7 losses against an average rating of 2425
(It must be noted that the last three games were friendly draws with the move repetition 5.Nc3 Bc5 6.Na4 Qa5+ 7.Nc3
whereas 7.c3 would be a more fighting choice there.)
he beat strong players such as Gata Kamsky
Emil Sutovsky and Loek van Wely. The win over Shirov was a blitz game
Sutovsky is another player who doesn't shy away from sharp complications
and he was definitely winning at some point:
Kveinys split the point with quite a few very strong grandmasters
Alexei Shirov and Nigel Short. His draw with Gelfand from the 2008 Olympiad was very interesting:
French and Latvian Team Championships and the Baltic zonal tournament in Liepaja

Kveinys was generally appreciated as a very social grandmaster
who loved to analyze afterward and share a beer or two (or three) with the opponent
It's not a secret that his appearance was as impressive as his love of alcoholic beverages
Growing side by side as chess players, almost 50 (!) years of playing together and against each other
and just a few months after the Fagernes tournament
when we were flying back home and talking about future plans..
as a highly skilled coach and as a very friendly and nice person in so many countries
My deepest condolences to his wife Vineta and whole family."
Lithuania’s number one player but inactive now
He was an indispensable figure in Lithuanian chess
a Moldovian grandmaster of the same generation
I have very positive memories about Aloyzas
Every time we met he was bringing a good mood into the company
a Russian grandmaster of the same generation
so many games we played (surely more than 10)
Firstly in the 1980s as Moscow students in the "Burevestnik" tournaments (he was a student of the Russian Sport University)
later in Europe—GM round-robins in Bonn
Bad Godesberg in the 1990s (where some players were his closest friends
President of the Icelandic Chess Federation and organiser of the Reykjavik Open and other Icelandic events:
“Aloyzas was of good friend of many Icelandic players
His last visit was in March where he played in the GAMMA Reykjavik Open and the Icelandic Team Championship where he became champion with his team Viking Club scoring 8 points out of 9 games
He was usually in a good mood and always smiling
It was nice sitting down with after his games and drink with him one or two beers
"Aloyzas was a very amicable and considerate person
He had a great sense of humor and his stories would never end
Once after a severe financial loss (team was on the verge of winning medal but ended up fourth and it could easily be a fortune for each player back at the time) at an international event (I do not share details for the sake of other Iranians) he kindly shared his bottle of Johnny Walker
I was young and I could have with me and told me stories the entire time just to make me feel better
Later that year he got me a sweet invitation to Keres Memorial rapid and blitz
only I could not go due to some people at the federation
Kveinys's popularity becomes clear from the sheer amount of reactions on social media to his passing
I played him twice, met him so many times and shared quite a number of drinks with him. All in Reykjavik and Riga. A huge loss for the chess world. RIP Aloyzas https://t.co/uadfDNR2jV
Aloyzas Kveinys was indeed a true gentlemen and a joy to be around. I shared many a beer with this gentle giant; normally in an Icelandic bar. 😢 His home from home. RIP 🍺🍻. pic.twitter.com/TW2bLj7cx8
Rest in Peace #AloyzasKveinys pic.twitter.com/9RiIz3bfT6
Estonian grandmaster Kaido Kulaots wrote on Facebook (full post here):
"(...) If I was a tournament organizer
I would have been enthusiastic to have Aloyzas participating at my tournaments
he could have been seen playing in a number of opens in different countries
but at the same time also fighting spirit to each of them
So no wonder he was being warmly welcome back.As a chessplayer I was really fortunate to have a colleague like Aloyzas
It was both for great company and things I learnt from him
I was a teenager when I first met him over the chessboard
I was impressed by the ease and also the strength of his decisions
I was swept away in Sicilian by the mix of his tactical and positional weaponry
Polish grandmaster Michal Krasenkow wrote on Facebook (full post here):
"Another terrible news: GM Aloyzas Kveinys has died
A great man whom I know since childhood and against whom I played the biggest number of tournament games among all chess players: in junior and students' tournaments
in Polish team championships and other events
(...) He was an excellent positional and endgame player
Latvian-born American grandmaster Alexander Shabalov wrote on Facebook (full post here):
"(...) Apart from winning the [Greensboro 2015] tournament he was the superstar of hospitality suite: consuming beverages
cracking jokes and showing the endless puzzles that he was able to pull out from his head just like the illusionist who takes the bigger and bigger rabbit from his hat until everyone would give up
but the American audience was completely swept away by the "Kveinys show" (...) There are people you know and there are people you know for 40+ years out of your 50

It can be done with tiny cameras which the patient has to swallow
In the past there was no way of controlling the device as it passed through the body
Now it can be steered and stopped where desired
Images of the inside of the intestine can be obtained even today: The patient swallows a camera that is no larger than a candy
It makes its way through the intestine and transmits images of the intestinal villi to an external receiver which the patient carries on a belt
This device stores the data so that the physician can later analyze them and identify any hemorrhages or cysts
the camera is not very suitable for examinations of the esophagus and the stomach
The reason is that camera only takes about three or four seconds to make its way through the esophagus — producing two to four images per second — and once it reaches the stomach
its roughly five-gram weight causes it to drop very quickly to the lower wall of the stomach
For examinations of the esophagus and the stomach
patients still have to swallow a rather thick endoscope
In collaboration with engineers from the manufacturer Given Imaging
the Israelite Hospital in Hamburg and the Royal Imperial College in London
researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering in Sankt Ingbert have developed the first-ever control system for the camera pill
doctors will be able to stop the camera in the esophagus
and thus adjust the angle of the camera as required,” says IBMT team leader Dr
“This allows them to make a precise examination of the junction between the esophagus and the stomach
for if the cardiac sphincter is not functioning properly
gastric acid comes up the esophagus and causes heartburn
this may even cause cancer of the esophagus
we can even scan the stomach walls.” But how do the researchers manage to steer the disposable camera inside the body
“We have developed a magnetic device roughly the size of a bar of chocolate
The doctor can hold it in his hand during the examination and move it up and down the patient's body
The camera inside follows this motion precisely,” says Volke
The steerable camera pill is constructed in much the same way as its predecessor: It consists of a camera
a transmitter that sends the images to the receiver
a battery and several cold-light diodes which briefly flare up like a flashlight every time a picture is taken
One prototype of the camera pill has already passed its first practical test in the human body
The researchers demonstrated in a self-experiment that the camera can be kept in the esophagus for about ten minutes

ROWE Racing has established itself as a Total 24 Hours of Spa specialist in recent years
producing excellent displays at the season's marquee event with three different manufacturers.
the German squad was founded in 2008 by Michael Zehe and Hans-Peter Naundorf
The following year it began its association with the ROWE motor oil company
a partnership that has endured for more than a decade.
the team made its Total 24 Hours of Spa debut in 2013 with a Mercedes-Benz SLS
Its first full Endurance Cup campaign followed in 2015 and
its #99 car led overall at six and 12 hours
ROWE drivers Nico Bastian and Stef Dusseldorp ended the season sixth in the Endurance Cup standings
while the team had given notice of its ability to perform at Spa
which brought the chance to run a full-factory crew of Philipp Eng
This crack driver line-up combined with ROWE's expertise to give the squad a memorable victory in the season's marquee race
Two years later ROWE was on the podium again
with Sims combining with fellow BMW men Nicky Catsburg and Jens Klingmann to take runner-up spot
In 2019 the team switched to Porsche machinery and once again finished second at the 24 Hours
confirming ROWE's ability to run at the front with a variety of machinery
Though best known for its endurance racing prowess ROWE also contested the Sprint Cup in 2016 and 2017
In 2020 it fields one full-season Endurance Cup entry and a second at selected events
including factory drivers Dirk Werner and Simona de Silvestro.

A modern sulphur handling terminal is taking shape in the port of Ust Luga
located at the mouth of the river Luga at the Baltic Sea
The terminal will initially reachan annual handling capacity of four million tonnes
This will rise to 10 million tonnes per year
following a subsequent extension of the plant
The terminal owner is the company EST European Sulphur Terminal of St
Petersburg and the materials handling equipment for the terminal is being supplied by the Materials Handling business unit of ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik
one of the world’s leading suppliers of advanced-technology materials handling equipment
The sulphur will arrive in either closed or open railway wagons
The closed wagons will be unloaded independently by opening the side wall flaps in a wagon dumper
while the open cars will be lifted from the rail track and simultaneously emptied into a bunker by means of a side discharge dumper which turns the wagons upside down to release the material
The side discharge dumper will be able to complete 22 unloading cycles per hour and will therefore reach an unloading capacity of 1,600 t/h
whereas the unloading capacity for closed cars will be 1,000 t/h
the material will be transported into a storage hall where it will be stacked in piles by an overhead tripper system running along the apex of the store
the material will be reclaimed from the piles by a full portal scraper and transported by a belt conveyor system to the loading quay at the port
The reclaiming capacity of the full portal scraper and the belt conveyors will be 2,000 t/h
a TKF shiploader with a capacity of 2,000 t/h will then load the bulk material (sulphur
urea and other fertilizers) into 70,000 dwt ships
Special requirements had to be taken into consideration when designing and configuring the shiploaders
particularly with regard to environmental protection
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik were able to use their many years of experience and knowledge of shiploader construction in order to implement the necessary measures and solutions which were required to achieve an environmentally friendly plant which could provide a basis for future development
it is planned to double the equipment described above so that
it will be possible to handle up to 10 million tonnes per year of bulk material
This is the second time that ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik have been able to convince a Russian client in the new Ust Luga port of their technical competence
efficiency and performance and therefore be awarded the contract
Notices are posted by 10 am Monday through Saturday
