BATON ROUGE - Drivers on Siegen Lane may have been getting mixed signals for the past few weeks
the left turn signal heads at the intersection of I-10 and Siegen Lane were moved off kilter by the powerful winds of Hurricane Francine in mid-September
A driver told WBRZ he had a close call on September 18 after confusing a green turn signal for another lane as his turn to go.
"Because I could see a green arrow that says turn left and we were gonna go turn left to go toward Sam's

DOTD says they did not receive any complaints or concerns from motorists about this traffic signal.

An additional four years of funding has been secured for “Transformations of the Popular,” a Collaborative Research Center at the University of Siegen
The German Research Foundation (DFG) is providing roughly nine million euros for the second funding period
The “Transformations of the Popular” Collaborative Research Center (CRC) is widely hailed as a beacon for research at the University of Siegen
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has now extended the project by an additional four years
The DFG will be making roughly nine million euros available to researchers during that period
allowing further studies into how the popular shapes modern society
The focus here is on the question of what difference it makes if
what impact does it have on the political or aesthetic significance and on the cultural or social standing of a person or thing when it is popular—or not
The second funding phase of the CRC began on 1 January 2025
“My heartfelt congratulations go out to the entire collaborative research center team with Professor Niels Werber as its spokesperson
I wish all involved much success during this second funding period
The extension strongly demonstrates a track record of research excellence
The University of Siegen offers an ideal environment for this
especially thanks to the close proximity to the ‘Media of Cooperation’ CRC
research-driven projects on ‘Media and Culture’ will have the chance to be further refined and expanded in the coming years,” University Rector Professor Stefanie Reese declared
“It’s fantastic that we will be able to continue our research into pop
and populism together with our partners in Berlin
we’ll explore in greater depth the paths of distribution for popular notice and the social
and political consequences that can emerge from this,” says Professor Niels Werber
spokesperson for the collaborative research center
The “Transformations of the Popular” CRC comprises 19 sub-projects
led by 24 researchers from various literary
as do numerous research fellows from around the world. The common starting point for the shared research: the concept that we no longer live in a society in which cultural goods are exclusively positioned on a scale between “high culture” and “mass” or “consumer culture” — with high culture alone viewed as challenging and worthwhile
a lack thereof) loses its implicitness if the quantitative dimension of popularity gains in importance
Being “popular” means getting noticed by many — and when that is quantified
then new rankings emerge: Those at the very top of the rankings are the most noticed
those at the bottom those receiving no notice
Attention and respect can be seen to have shifted from classics to best-sellers
the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced that it would further reinforce world-class research at German universities through the establishment of seven new collaborative research centers
the decision committee also voted on the extension of 23 CRC for one additional funding period
Collaborative Research Centers are intended to promote innovative
allowing for the establishment of centers and structures at the applying universities; they can receive up to a maximum of twelve years of funding
The “Transformations of the Popular” CRC is based in Siegen’s Herrengarten
Insights > Crews working on electric system near Siegen Lane and Airline Highway in Baton Rouge
Entergy Louisiana crews and contractors are working to improve the electric system for approximately 1,800 residents and businesses near Siegen Lane and Airline Highway in Baton Rouge
Crews trimmed trees in the area and will be doing a mix of installing devices to protect the electric system from animal contact and replacing utility poles
some of which is challenging due to electric equipment being in hard-to-reach alleys behind businesses
began in early October and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year
ongoing reliability work and a strategic resilience plan would help protect the state against future weather events and support the local economy
Traffic moves slowly along Siegen Lane on Thursday
Crowded intersections and long wait times at stoplights are frequent experiences for drivers making their way down Siegen Lane
traffic slows down along the busy thoroughfare as cars merge from Interstate 10
head toward Airline Highway or stop at one of many businesses along the way
With only two places for drivers to get on and off the interstate in the area
city-parish transportation and drainage director Fred Raiford called the intersections "the two biggest problems down in the southeast part of the parish" in terms of traffic
"The reason for that is that there’s a lot of traffic that wants to go eastbound
a lot of them may want to go westbound but a lot of that traffic gets off and they want to go toward Airline Highway," Raiford said
"Those issues are being looked at this point to see what needs to be done."
an employee at the GNC store in Siegen Plaza
working near the busy road has been more of a hassle than usual in recent months
"Lately it’s been rough just with overall traffic buildup," he said
especially for a lot of the businesses in this plaza
the light takes a really long time to go green
and so the cars will be strung out throughout the entire parking lot."
Rogers estimated that about 10 customers complain to him each day about how long it takes to get in and out of the plaza due to traffic on Siegen
"It does hurt business because there are other locations where you don’t have to spend 30 minutes in traffic every day," he said
general sales manager at Team Honda on Siegen Lane
said he gives people tips on how to navigate the busy road as they pull into traffic in their new cars
"We tell our customers when they’re leaving out
especially customers that are new or young
we’ll tell our customers to make sure they make a right … we’ve seen a lot of cars from out of town who are not familiar with Baton Rouge."
Outside of complaints he has received about the overall volume of traffic
Raiford said another big concern for drivers on Siegen Lane is the length and timing of stoplights in the area
Raiford said the Department of Transportation & Development handles signal maintenance and timing on the interstate
but he works closely with the agency to reduce traffic congestion once drivers hit Siegen Lane
“There are a lot of questions about why [traffic] is stacking up so much; we’re always asking our traffic people to look at the timing plans," he said
"Sometimes we set them to where if you get more traffic that’s using it during certain times of the day
but I also believe that what we have done and what’s being proposed will minimize that inconvenience for the motoring public in the future.”
Two projects in the works are designed to improve the driving experience for motorists on and around Siegen Lane
The first and furthest along of the projects is the creation of an I-10 interchange at Pecue Lane
Located between the current I-10 exits at Highland Road and Siegen Lane
the interchange will give drivers another place to merge on or off the interstate
"Probably the most significant project is the Pecue interchange
because that gives you three locations from off the interstate to get to Airline Highway where you can diversify your traffic as far as where it needs to be
where they want to get off at and just to have more connectivity," Raiford said
The other project, to widen Perkins Road from Siegen to Pecue, completed final plans in February, according to the MOVEBR website
the project will include pedestrian facilities and provide another outlet for traffic in the area
"The widening of Perkins is going to be a tremendous asset," Raiford said
"It gives more separation and it gives another location you can go to without having to go at Siegen and Airline."

A Mississippi development company has purchased the Siegen Lane TJ Ribs property for $2.5 million and plans to bring a new restaurant to the location

Drive-through restaurants are smaller and require less staff
The chain has recently been promoting discount hamburger and chicken sandwich combos
said in a statement the restaurant chain is outperforming the industry in sales and traffic
"Being a heritage brand with more than 1,500 restaurants
it’s integral to our brand health to regularly review the performance of our restaurants based on sales figures
lease agreements and other factors," the company said
we need to make the tough decision to close one
