Gary Anderson retained the Elten Safety Shoes European Darts Grand Prix title with a comprehensive 8-0 victory over Andrew Gilding on Sunday evening
Anderson ended his ten-year wait for a European Tour crown in last year’s Sindelfingen showpiece
and the Scottish icon continued his love-affair at the Glaspalast with another memorable triumph
The 54-year-old produced a clinical display on the outer ring to secure the £30,000 top prize
punishing Gilding’s doubling woes to become the first player to successfully retain the European Darts Grand Prix
Former UK Open champion Gilding squandered seven darts at double across the opening two legs
and that set the tone for a one-sided final
Anderson conjured up a sensational 141 checkout in leg four
before following up an 84 finish on the bull with a brace of 14-darters to cap off a ruthless performance
“I’m just glad that I can still come and play darts and compete with these boys,” declared Anderson
who celebrates his third European Tour success
“These youngsters that are coming through now
Gian van Veen – darts is in a fantastic place.”
Anderson also paid tribute to the capacity crowd inside the Glaspalast
who roared the Scotsman on to his first big stage title since his victory in Sindelfingen just over a year ago
“I’m a very proud Scotsman and I get a lot of support in Scotland
but this has outdone them,” admitted the two-time World Champion
It’s been a long time since I’ve had so much support.”
Anderson began his campaign with an epic victory against Gian van Veen on Saturday
averaging 110 and landing nine 180s to edge out the World Youth Champion in a dramatic finale
After accounting for 2023 champion Rob Cross in the last 16
Anderson then won through another decider against Martin Lukeman
before averaging 106 in his semi-final demolition of Dirk van Duijvenbode
was denied in his bid to land a maiden European Tour title
despite producing a series of dominant displays to earn the £12,000 runner-up prize
“I did say earlier I was going to lift the trophy
but Gary obviously had something to prove here today,” quipped world number 28 Gilding
“In the last couple of European Tour events I went out in the first round
Following back-to-back deciding-leg wins over Gabriel Clemens and Jonny Clayton
Gilding produced his best-ever big-stage average to defeat Danny Noppert earlier in the day
averaging 110.77 on his way to a 6-3 victory
The Suffolk star continued his charge with a thumping 6-1 win over 2017 winner Peter Wright
before closing out a resounding 7-3 success against Luke Woodhouse in the semi-finals
Ross Smith and Michael Smith to advance to his first ranking semi-final of 2025
which provides a boost to his hopes of World Matchplay qualification
Woodhouse was joined in the last four by a revitalised Van Duijvenbode
who followed up his first big stage victory over Michael van Gerwen by averaging 111 in a 6-2 thumping of German number one Martin Schindler
The Dutchman then survived four match darts in his quarter-final win over James Wade
who reached the last eight alongside Grand Slam runner-up Lukeman
as well as former World Champions Wright and Smith
The PDC European Tour returns later this month
as the Autotron in Rosmalen plays host to the Dutch Darts Championship from May 23-25
where reigning champion Josh Rock will be looking to retain the title

and returned to action on the Winamax European Tour with a 110.16 average - aided by nine 180s - to see off World Youth Champion Van Veen in a deciding leg
The Dutch ace opened their second round tie with a 142 finish
and he also took out 120 and 88 to move 5-3 up - only for Anderson to sweep to victory with legs of 14

after the St Helens ace came from 3-0 and 5-2 down to edge out Daniel Klose
Home hopes in Sindelfingen will rest on the shoulders of Martin Schindler on Sunday
after the Austrian Darts Open winner began his bid for back-to-back titles with a 6-4 comeback victory against Josh Rock
but a sublime ten-darter from Schindler levelled during a run of four straight legs which propelled him into a third round date with Dirk van Duijvenbode
Van Duijvenbode had earlier claimed his first big-stage win over Michael van Gerwen
pulling clear of the three-time World Champion with a trio of 14-darters before wrapping up a 6-3 triumph with a 101 average
James Wade finished six doubles from ten attempts as he saw off Joe Cullen 6-4
and he progresses to meet Niels Zonneveld following the Dutch left-hander's impressive 6-2 win over Nathan Aspinall
Chris Dobey was another BetMGM Premier League star to exit in round two as he went down 6-4 to Luke Woodhouse
Smith - the runner-up in the Austrian Darts Open last week - finished six doubles from nine attempts as he pulled clear from three-all to defeat Dave Chisnall
Danny Noppert came from 2-0 and 5-3 down to snatch a narrow 6-5 win over compatriot Wessel Nijman
and he now meets Andrew Gilding in a clash of former UK Open champions
after the Englishman defied checkouts of 160 and 135 from Jonny Clayton to prevail in a deciding leg
Raymond van Barneveld booked his spot in the final day for the second time in 2025 by edging out Gerwyn Price in a decider
Van Barneveld will open Sunday's third round action against Martin Lukeman
after the Grand Slam of Darts finalist reeled off five straight legs to wrap up a 6-2 win over Damon Heta
Peter Wright began his bid to win a tenth European Tour title with an impressive 6-4 win over Leon Weber
averaging 105 and hitting half of his 12 attempts at a double
Wright now faces an all-Scottish third round tie with Cameron Menzies
who defied a ton-plus average from Stephen Bunting to claim a 6-2 win over the International Darts Open winner by hitting an impressive six doubles from seven attempts
with the third round taking place in the afternoon session ahead of the evening's decisive quarter-finals

I’m a creature of habit when it comes to food
I go there religiously and order my favorite dish
Even though I have been more adventurous in Germany
I have played it safe when covering sporting events in Stuttgart
On one such occasion in late summer last year
nor did I want to go too far from the autobahn to get back on the road to Kaiserslautern
a place in Sindelfingen just minutes away from Panzer Kaserne
It had good reviews online and it serves traditional Swabian fare
I saw that the daily specials were chock-full of chanterelle mushrooms
which have become one of my favorites since moving here
The chanterelle soup and pork medallions in a chanterelle cream sauce with spätzle noodles tasted amazing
and I couldn’t get Bierstadel out of my head
So when I returned to the Stuttgart area in mid-May
Somewhat hidden behind a wall of plants along Pfarrwiesenallee
Bierstadel can hold up to 90 guests inside and an additional 120 in the biergarten
I told myself I would order regional fare and I stuck to that
Another customer asked about the specials with asparagus
I selected the asparagus special with schnitzel
a dish of pork tenderloin fillets with cream mushrooms
maultasche (Swabian dumplings) and cheese spätzle
I received the typical questioning look from the server that I normally get from ordering so much food
so I was a little crestfallen when the dish had the white version
which is coveted by many Germans during this time of year
The Hollandaise sauce added a rich lemon-butter flavor to the asparagus
and the strawberry garnish was a nice touch
with the meat juicy throughout and the breading crisp
Then it was time for Sindelfingen’s favorite dish
I started with the ravioli-like maultasche
It was filled with ground beef and tasted like meatloaf
they were cooked thoroughly and yet still were juicy
They went well with the hearty mushrooms and sauce
which came with actual cream to mix yourself
The cheese spätzle was the last remaining dish
but I couldn’t place all the cheeses involved
The server queried the cook and it turned out to be mozzarella
the proprietors’ and employees’ pride in their food and service was evident from beginning to end
And I can understand the high reviews online
My two experiences at Bierstadel have cemented the restaurant’s status as my go-to spot whenever sports bring me to Panzer Kaserne
Hours: Monday and Wednesday through Saturday 5-10 p.m.; Sunday

Gian van Veen will take on reigning champion Gary Anderson in the second round of the Elten Safety Shoes European Darts Grand Prix
as Ross Smith stole the show with a sparkling display on Day One in Sindelfingen
Van Veen was amongst the 16 first round winners on a marathon day of first round action
producing a mid-match burst to deny Nathan Rafferty and set up a blockbuster clash with Anderson
The World Youth Champion ran out a 6-3 winner against Rafferty
although it was former European Champion Smith who produced the performance of the day at the Glaspalast
Smith averaged 108.65 in his six-leg demolition of Host Nation representative Paul Krohne
and he will renew his rivalry with Dave Chisnall for a place in the last 16
“I will take that all day long,” reflected Smith
who has won his last four meetings against the St Helens star
“It didn’t feel like a 108 average in a million years
and I'm looking forward to tomorrow now."
Smith was beaten by Martin Schindler in last weekend’s Austrian Darts Open showpiece
and the German number one also made a winning start on home soil
Schindler kicked off his bid for back-to-back European Tour titles with a hard-fought 6-3 win against Callan Rydz
reeling off three straight legs to confirm his second round berth
There were mixed fortunes for the rest of the German contingent in Sindelfingen
with Leon Weber and Daniel Klose joining Schindler in progressing to Saturday’s second round
Weber marked his European Tour debut with a statement 6-3 success against Ryan Joyce
before Klose defeated a profligate Jermaine Wattimena by the same scoreline
Schindler’s former World Cup partners Gabriel Clemens and Max Hopp suffered opening round exits
losing out to Andrew Gilding and Mike De Decker respectively
Gilding averaged 100.47 to withstand a valiant fightback from Clemens
while World Grand Prix champion De Decker overturned a 3-0 deficit to deny Hopp a dream return to the European Tour
Joe Cullen and Cameron Menzies also brushed aside German opposition
easing past Marcel Erba and Michael Unterbuchner in convincing fashion
Wessel Nijman and Niels Zonneveld made winning starts at the Glaspalast
as they advanced to the last 32 alongside fellow countryman Van Veen
Van Duijvenbode maintained his resurgence with a thumping 6-2 victory over William O’Connor
converting six of his eight attempts at double in the process
Van Barneveld made a sprint for the finish to record a third straight win over Poland’s number one Krzysztof Ratajski
and his reward will be a second round tie against 2021 World Champion Gerwyn Price
Nijman dispatched former World Youth Champion Bradley Brooks in his opener
before Zonneveld exploited a disastrous display of doubling from Ryan Searle to clinch an emphatic 6-1 win
Connor Scutt celebrated his maiden European Tour victory at the seventh attempt
punishing a below-par performance from European Champion Ritchie Edhouse to wrap up a 6-2 victory
Luke Woodhouse boosted his hopes of World Matchplay qualification with a 6-3 win against Sweden’s Johan Engstrom
after Martin Lukeman defeated Slovenia’s Benjamin Pratnemer by the same scoreline in Friday’s curtain-raiser
The 16 PDC Order of Merit Qualifiers will now enter the fray in Saturday’s second round
as defending champion Anderson makes his return to European Tour action
World number one Luke Humphries will take on Scutt
as three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen goes head-to-head with Van Duijvenbode in an all-Dutch encounter

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the production of its 22 millionth vehicle in its Sindelfingen plant
The vehicle in question is a red EQS 580 4Matic
which rolled off the production line at Factory 56 in Germany earlier this week
Work at the factory started in 1919 and it’s been the center of excellence for luxury car production for Mercedes since 1946
The Sindelfingen plant is the location where the automaker builds its most luxurious vehicles. These include the S-Class with combustion and electrified engines, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door are also assembled at the same production site
Mercedes is especially proud of the fact that the factory is highly flexible and new drivetrains can be quickly and easily integrated into the running line
"I congratulate my colleagues in Sindelfingen on the impressive production anniversary of 22 million vehicles
and sustainable: Sindelfingen is and remains our center of excellence for luxury-class vehicles in the global production network
while at the same time being ideally positioned for the future: the lead plant in the top-end luxury segment will produce models using the electric AMG.EA platform from 2025 onwards," comments Jorg Burzer
Mercedes executive responsible for production and supply chain management
The Sindelfingen factory was originally established as an aircraft factory in 1915 and it wasn’t until 1919 that production of vehicles started at the location
The first model on the production lines was the Mercedes-Knight 16/45
large-scale production was established and Sindelfingen reached record capacities in 1966 when twice as many vehicles were built for a single year as in the entire period between 1946 and 1952

The New Audi A6 Plug-In Hybrid Has a Decent Electric Range
Mercedes Will Replace the EQS With an Electric S-Class
Factory 56 has now been opened at the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant in Germany
The fully digitalised production should set standards in flexibility
From conventional to fully electric drives – all assembly steps for vehicles with different body styles and drive systems can be carried out on one level at Factory 56
Daimler said that the plant’s flexibility regards the number of models produced
the production volume and the flow of materials
the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and long-wheelbase version will roll off the production line at Factory 56
the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and the EQS will also be produced here on the same line
Compared to the previous S-Class assembly line in Sindelfingen
production in the new plant will be 25 per cent more efficient
The flexibility that the German carmaker is describing means that whereas in the past a separate production line had to be built and operated for luxury class sedans
Factory 56 can theoretically integrate compact cars or SUVs with conventional
PHEV or BEV drive into series production within a few days
This should enable production to be adapted quickly and flexibly to market demand
this kind of flexibility does not come cheaply: Daimler has invested 730 million euros in the 220,000 square meters Factory 56 alone
and with further measures at the Sindelfingen plant
the total investment in the location will even increase to 2.1 billion euros
Daimler is emphasising the advantages: It has succeeded in “successfully combining flexibility
digitisation and sustainability,” according to Daimler CEO Ola Källenius
“Factory 56 thus sets the direction for future automobile production at Mercedes-Benz: resource-saving
networked and flexible,” says the manager
“Because we see the transformation of our industry as a holistic task that includes not only the products but also the entire value chain.”
The assembly itself is built around what Mercedes is calling two TecLines
which are designed to avoid fixed points in the assembly process and making it possible to have the kind of flexibility the carmaker needs to follow demand
the TecLines bundle all complex system technologies in one place
This also includes the changeover from the classic assembly line to driverless transport systems – a step that Porsche also took in the production of the Taycan
Instead of having to change the entire assembly line when production is changed (for example
when there is a model change or an additional series)
in future only the route of the up to 400 transport vehicles will have to be programmed
Daimler has developed a standard called ‘Fullflex Marriage’ that is intended to cover different models and drive types
Since the ‘marriage’ is distributed over several modular stations
larger conversions should be possible without lengthy interruptions to production – whereby Daimler leaves itself some leeway with the formulation “larger” and “longer”
The digital infrastructure of the paperless factory is based on a powerful WLAN and 5G network
Data is thus to be exchanged via the MO360 digital ecosystem developed by Mercedes-Benz Cars and the system is being used in its entirety for the first time in the ‘Factory 56’
Daimler plants have only used individual components of this system
The factory has been made CO2-neutral right from the start
the total energy requirement has been reduced by a quarter
the roof of the Factory 56 is equipped with a 5,000 MWp photovoltaic system
which should cover about 30 per cent of the power requirement
Other parts of the roof are covered with greenery
The PV system is supported by a stationary storage facility
The system with a total capacity of 1.4 MWh was built with vehicle batteries

The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen art museum in Germany recently launched a major retrospective on acclaimed American artist, Tom Sachs
Entitled “Timeline,” the sprawling presentation signals Sachs’ first monumental presentation in the country for over 15 years
A number of large-scale sculptures and bricolage objects are displayed throughout the exhibition rooms of the German institute that chronicle the artist’s decades-long career as a contemporary artist
Highlights include his life-sized ‘Miffy’ (2008) statue
‘Hello Kitty Nativity’ (1994) sculptural work
the ’Chanel Guillotine’ mixed-media sculpture
and towering sculptures of the Twin Towers
‘Tea Ceremony’ pieces and NASA-inspired objects are also on display
One of the more eye-catching works is a makeshift McDonalds stand entitled ‘Nutsy’s McDonald’s’ (2001) complete with employee uniforms and a garbage bin to boot
Sachs’ artworks “critically questions the value of products and the meaning of existing rituals and ways of life,” described the museum in a statement
