12-year-old Lana had a stroke of luck when she crashed her bike on a sloping road in Ibbenbüren in April. The single-vehicle accident caused injuries to her hands, arms and legs, as well as to her face.
Luckily, Lana was wearing her bike helmet, which protected her from more serious injuries. Because she also hit her head on the ground during the fall. The helmet was badly damaged in the accident. This example shows once again: it is very important to protect your head well when cycling.
A few days after the accident, the victim protection officer from the traffic directorate of the district police authority, Michael Thamm, visited Lana and her family together with road safety advisor Tanja Lindmeyer. This police victim protection service is aimed at all children who have been injured or traumatized in a traffic accident.
In a conversation with Lana and her parents, advice was given on further, child-friendly support measures. The officers then visited the scene of the accident together with the family. Here they discussed the circumstances on site once again so that Lana can avoid such falls in future and better cope with the experience.
Lana is feeling better again and everyone is delighted that nothing more serious happened. The 12-year-old is determined to always wear a helmet when cycling in future too.

Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg’s senior director
said Tuesday that he expects the incident to cost a “high nine-figure amount” if resolved by Monday
The gigafactory usually makes 375,000 Model Y SUVs annually — or between 1,300 and 1,400 each day — which sell for about €45,00 ($49,000)
That comes out to roughly €60 million ($65.6 million) lost sales per day
They also expect fewer deliveries for the first quarter

On 25 May 2011, German balloonist Wilhelm (Willi) Eimers set a new FAI world record for duration of a flight in a 250-400m3 gas balloon
Eimers took off from Gladbeck in Germany and spent 23 hours
and 30 seconds in the air before landing in Steinfurt
The world record he set on that day 10 years ago still stands today.
A legend in the gas ballooning world, Eimers has participated in the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett race an incredible 27 times
He has won the historic race four times and has come second nine times
demonstrating his determination and skill as a pilot
On top of the record we are celebrating today, Eimers also set a separate FAI world duration record while competing in the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett in 1995
when he and co-pilot Bernd Landsmann won the race by flying for more than 92 hours non stop
Eimers' other accolades include several German ballooning records
as well as the prestigious FAI Montgolfier Diploma
This year, he was also honoured by being inducted into the FAI CIA Ballooning and Airship Hall of Fame

The left-wing extremist "Volcano Group" said it had carried out the assault on the power grid supplying the carmaker
"We sabotaged Tesla today," a letter from the Volcano Group said, specifying an "attack on the electricity supply."
police said they were aware of the letter the Volcano Group and that they were checking its authenticity
Police had earlier said they were investigating an initial suspicion of arson after an electricity pylon caught fire
The state of Brandenburg's Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) spoke of a "perfidious attack" on the electricity infrastructure. Unknown people had set fire to the high-voltage pylon between Steinfurt and Hartmannsdorf early on Tuesday morning
"These are either the dumbest eco-terrorists in the world or they are puppets of those who don't have good environmental goals," Musk wrote on social media platform X
ist extrem dumm," the Tesla boss wrote using the German for "is extremely stupid."
German Economy Minister Robert Habeck responded to the incident saying: "The attack on the power supply is an attack on our critical infrastructure
This must now be investigated and punished quickly
Violence and sabotage must not be a means of conflict."
said there were also outages in the Berlin districts of Müggelheim

Tesla said all measures had been taken to secure the production facilities but that
after consultation with the electricity provider EDIS
the company did not expect production to restart quickly
The fire brigade was called at around 5:15 a.m
(0415 GMT/UTC) and began extinguishing the fire at the pylon. A police helicopter was deployed after the alarm was raised
A police spokesperson earlier said they could not comment on a report in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper that the fire had been started by activists
The spokesperson added that bomb disposal units were called in after emergency services found a sign saying "ordnance buried here." Firefighters were said to be extinguishing the blaze in a field
Police had initially said they were "investigating in all directions" about the possible cause
which has a capacity of around 500,000 cars a year
The plan hit a roadblock when local residents voted against a motion to chop down trees to make way for it
Tesla wants to double the site's capacity to 100 gigawatt hours of battery production and a million cars per year
allowing it to take a leading role in the European market
The facility has had problems even before its opening in 2022. Locals and water authorities were concerned over the amount of water needed as well as the speed with which construction progressed
A report on Thursday by Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel said that Tesla had consumed 451,654 cubic metres of water over the past year
well under the amount agreed with the local water authority
The company says it recycles "up to 100% of its industrial water," according to Tesla manager Rohan Patel.

German home textiles leader boosts production with a complete finishing line upgrade
Interiors
For leading European textile manufacturers
adapting quickly to changing and highly uncertain market conditions has long been a necessity
The need for flexibility has only been intensified since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic
Monforts has been able to assist its customers all along the way through this difficult period
not least with its MORE – Monforts Original Replacement Equipment – programme
The Monforts commitment to customer service is based on four principles – helpful
The company has established a reputation for quickly and efficiently dispatching spares and components where they’re needed worldwide
Monforts machines are known for their robustness and long service life
but major advances in digital technology mean that there are now significant gains to be made in the retrofitting of the latest automatic drives and control systems to machines
going far beyond the basic replacement of spare parts
is one of the oldest but also the most modern home textiles companies in Germany
with its main weaving and finishing operations located in Borken
and a further jacquard weaving mill in Steinfurt
as well as with a making up and packaging plant in the Czech Republic
The family-owned company’s extensive home textiles portfolio – spearheaded by the well-known Dormisette brand of bed linen – is supplied both to a wide range of retailers
retirement homes and other public institutions
Wülfing is also a specialist in African damask fabric weaving at the production site in Steinfurt
the company has over 500 employees and with 160 weaving machines in continuous operation has an annual capacity of 60 million square metres of cotton fabrics – roughly the area of 8,400 football pitches
In addition 200,000kg of high quality 95% cotton yarns are always in stock
with 15,000kg processed into fabrics on a daily basis
“Our particular strength is in wide-width weaving and the development of customer-specific ranges,” says Gerd Schulte-Mesum
“We have fully-integrated production in Germany on the most modern machines and flexibility is fundamental to our continued success
The fast-moving market demands ever-increasing innovation
service and the rapid implementation of new ideas
Wülfing has employed a Monforts sanforizing line since 2009 to guarantee the required dimensional stability and shrink-fastness of its high quality bed linen
the sanforizing process is a central pillar in the production of typical wide-width cotton fabrics for home textiles
the company was able to acquire a second Monforts sanforizing line from another company which
It was overhauled and installed behind a Monforts equalizing frame of a similar age
the two machines had to be operated separately via individual controls and did not represent an integrated unit,” says Schulte-Mesum
“This resulted in deficits in the desired productivity and in the control technology.”
Wülfing consulted with Monforts on a number of upgrade options and opted for a completely new joint control system to merge the two machines
a tensioning and damping field and a steaming unit
“Monforts provided a fast and precise erection and commissioning of the machine in spite of the difficult pandemic circumstances,” says Schulte-Mesum
“The result has been an increase in production speeds by 20% and enhanced uniformity in fabric width through a much improved guidance system
“We are also achieving energy savings as a result of the new control and drive technology and operation has been simplified and improved as a result of the unified control
We benefit from simplified access for maintenance work such as the grinding of the rubber blanket
but most of all we have greatly improved our flexibility and now have two almost identical Monforts sanforizing lines.”
“It’s been a pleasure to work with the team at Wülfing on this project
which demonstrates what is possible in the modification and upgrading of Monforts machines already in operation,” adds Thomas Päffgen

Tesla's European Gigafactory near Berlin halted production and was left without power after a suspected arson attack set an electricity pylon ablaze close to the site early on Tuesday
which did not spread to the Tesla site - the US electric vehicle maker's first manufacturing plant in Europe - was extinguished by the fire brigade
A Tesla spokesperson confirmed production had stopped and the site evacuated
Tesla's Frankfurt-listed shares were down 2.8 percent 11:15am GMT
which has had a bumpy ride in Europe of late
facing union pressure for collective bargaining agreements in the Nordics and supply disruptions as a result of attacks on shipping in the Red Sea
Germany has championed new big-ticket foreign investments at a time when Europe's largest economy is facing recession and grappling with higher inflation and weaker foreign demand
Police are investigating the possible arson attack in the area around the plant
which has been the focus of environmental protests since it was launched by Chief Executive Elon Musk two years ago
They would not confirm media reports that bomb disposal units had been deployed after emergency services found a sign saying "ordnance buried here"
The state police office "has taken over the investigation on suspicion of arson and we are currently investigating in all directions," a police spokesperson told Reuters
Workers for energy company E.ON are repairing the damage to the high-voltage pylon which knocked out power in the area
Electricity to surrounding communities was restored except for a large industrial site and a logistics centre
Police officers work next to a damaged pylon after Tesla Gigafactory in Gruenheide near Berlin halted production and was left without power after suspected arson set an electricity pylon ablaze
hit a roadblock when local residents voted down a motion to fell trees to enlarge it
The US EV maker wants to double the site's capacity to 100 gigawatt hours of battery production and 1 million cars per year
setting it up to dominate the European market
Environmental activists have built and occupied tree houses in the forested area they expect to be cleared if the expansion goes ahead
said in relation to the arson incident: "We're totally surprised by the situation," adding a full statement would be issued later
Citizens in Gruenheide last month voted against a motion to clear forest for Tesla to build extra infrastructure like a train station and warehouses
The plant's production ramp-up has slowed
though the carmaker produced 6,000 cars in a week for the first time in January

a desire for convenience and increasing disposable incomes are supporting market growth
earnings from continuing operations for the first quarter of 2019 were $7.3 million
or $0.16 per share compared with $3.9 million
Composite Fibers’ net sales decreased $12.9 million
primarily due to a 13.2% decline in shipping volumes partially offset by higher average selling prices totaling $0.9 million. Food and beverage shipping volumes were up 4.5% but were more than offset by declines in wallcover and metallized products
Currency translation was unfavourable by $8.2 million
Advanced Airlaid Materials’ net sales increased $30.8 million primarily due to the Steinfurt acquisition and a 13.4 per cent organic increase in shipping volumes reflecting strong growth in wipes
hygiene and table top products. Higher average selling prices contributed $1.8 million and currency translation was unfavourable by $3.1 million
“We reported solid results in the first quarter of 2019 delivering on growth targets for our Advanced Airlaid Materials business and making significant progress with the corporate cost reduction initiatives,” said Dante C Parrini
chairman and chief executive officer of Glatfelter
“Airlaid Materials’ shipments and operating income grew nearly 40 per cent compared with the first quarter a year ago
reflecting strong organic growth enabled by the Fort Smith
Arkansas capacity expansion in addition to the Steinfurt
Germany acquisition. In Composite Fibers
shipments of food and beverage products improved
our results were negatively impacted by weak demand for our wallcover and metallised products as well as continued disruptions in the availability of a key fibre due to a fire at the supplier’s facility.”
“We remain on track to deliver the previously announced $14 million to $16 million of corporate cost reductions by the end of 2020. Additionally
the recently completed debt refinancing is expected to reduce annual interest expense by $6 million in 2019 and $8 million per year going forward
giving us the flexibility and liquidity needed to fuel organic and strategic growth initiatives. And
we are pleased the court has approved the consent decree we entered into to resolve our Fox River liability,” added Parrini
we are confident in our growth prospects and believe we will deliver performance at the higher end of our legacy growth rate estimate of 8 per cent to 10 per cent
and the Steinfurt acquisition is on track to deliver the previously communicated $7 million to $9 million of operating profit in 2019
we are encouraged by new business development activities and moderating pulp prices; however
we are monitoring the market dynamics and managing the risks in our wallcover segment and
we expect overall volumes for this business to be flat in 2019 versus 2018
We remain confident in the strategic direction of the new Glatfelter and are optimistic about our ability to enhance shareholder value as a more stable
growth-oriented engineered materials company,” Parrini concluded
the company completed the previously announced sale of its Specialty Papers business unit on a cash-free and debt-free basis to Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC
an affiliate of Lindsay Goldberg for $360 million

CBS identified where cross-border commuters who work in the Netherlands live in Belgium and Germany
They are likely to commute from small municipalities just across the border
The highest concentrations of inbound commuters can be found along the border with Noord-Brabant and Limburg
more than 10 percent of the residents aged 15 years and over work in the Netherlands
Cross-border commuters residing in these municipalities are likely to have Dutch nationality
These are often Dutch nationals who chose to live just across the border while continuing to work in the Netherlands
Baarle-Hertog in the Flemish region of Turnhout has the highest intensity of commuter traffic to the Netherlands
22 percent of its residents aged 15 years and over were working in the Netherlands
In the two adjacent municipalities Hoogstraten (below Breda) and Ravels (just below Tilburg) as well
more than 10 percent of the population commute across the border on a weekly basis
A second Flemish region with a similar pattern is Tongeren
especially in the municipalities of Voeren (12.5 percent inbound commuters)
Lanaken (11.9 percent) and Riemst (8.7 percent)
relatively many residents are employed in the Netherlands
a number of regions can be identified where border commuting plays a prominent role
slightly over 14 percent of the inhabitants crossed the border for work in 2018
this share was equally high in the municipality of Selfkant in the Heinsberg region
This municipality borders on the narrowest part of the Netherlands which stretches across less than 5 kilometres
A municipality with a similar share is Kranenburg
which lies just across the border near Nijmegen in the Kleve region
considerably more workers commuted to the Netherlands from Belgium and Germany than were going in the opposite direction
There were nearly 43 thousand employees who travelled to work across the border from Germany to the Netherlands on a daily basis; from Belgium
over 9 thousand workers commuted from the Netherlands to Lower Saxony or North Rhine-Westphalia and 12 thousand to Flanders
There are hardly any employees from the Netherlands in Wallonia
This is evident from the most recent figures compiled by CBS and the statistical offices of North Rhine-Westphalia
These figures can be found in the open data portal with cross-border statistics: Grensdata.eu
This portal was realised with the help of a subsidy from the EU's cross-border cooperation programme Interreg

the freeway police authorities in Bielefeld
Cologne and Münster will receive 105 Mercedes Benz Vito vehicles
A further 75 vehicles are to follow by the end of 2023
"The continuous modernization of the NRW police vehicle fleet is an ongoing task and challenge," says Thomas Roosen at the press conference to present the new vehicles for the freeway police
The patrol cars are in use around the clock and offer police officers a modern and safe workplace
the feel-good factor also plays a major role in the procurement of vehicles," explains the head of the LZPD NRW
Sufficient space was also a wish expressed by colleagues in the field
A so-called equipment carrier has been designed and installed in the trunk of the vehicles
"Everything has its place and is easy to reach and use
it's a bit like 'Tetris' in optimized form," says Thomas Roosen
the vehicle offers a powerful engine that plays an important role for the freeway police
The large-format stop signal in the rear window provides early warning of danger
some vehicles are equipped with a hinged warning sign on the roof
which can be extended during operation to provide warnings
When colleagues tested various vehicle segments on site
a patrol vehicle was procured that offers the best possible mix of outstanding driving characteristics
seating and operating comfort as well as maximum payload capacity
The visibility of the large vehicles alone is a clear plus
the Mercedes Benz Vito is already being used as a "normal" emergency vehicle off the highways
