Rüsselsheim. Together with the ADAC
Opel has been causing an international stir as a pioneer of electric rallying since 2021
which starts on April 25 and 26 with the ADAC Actronics Rallye Sulingen
the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup ‘powered by GSe’ once again promises exciting action
Opel impressively proves: Electric rallying inspires and works
The Opel Corsa Rally Electric has established itself as a fast
The near-production technology of the 100 kW (136 hp) electric car
which impresses with a torque of 260 Newton metres
is ideally suited to the rigours of everyday rallying
the electric rally cars from Rüsselsheim have completed 31 races in six different countries (Germany
the Netherlands and France) and covered around 43,700 kilometres
The electrical components such as the motor
all of which were taken from the production vehicle
The charging statistics are just as impressive
the 50 kWh storage units of the rally vehicles were subjected to around 1,440 fast-charging cycles during the races
The batteries have survived this high stress flawlessly
A check carried out in recent weeks at the ‘Battery Refurbishment Centre’ in Rüsselsheim
showed an exemplary capacity of at least 98 percent for all storage systems
The electric charging infrastructure in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup ‘powered by GSe’ also met the high standards of those responsible in the first four years: It proved to be powerful
Promotion of young talents: ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup as a career springboard
it is not surprising that interest in the world's first and to date only electric rally one-make cup continues unabated
Including the upcoming season opener in Sulingen
Spaniard Alex Español and Frenchman Anthony Rott continue to be forces to be reckoned with
Germany is once again strongly represented with Christian Lemke
Simon Steitz and Arwed Jungnickel – all of which have already competed in the Corsa Rally Electric
the winner of the 2024 ADAC Clubsport Rallye Sprint Cup
will make a guest appearance at the season opener in Sulingen
who has already gained international experience in the Junior European Rally Championship
another fast woman will be behind the wheel of the Corsa Rally Electric in Sulingen
“Opel and the ADAC have proven the coherence of their joint electric rally concept,” said Jörg Schrott
“The Opel Corsa Rally Electric are fast
reliable and offer a lot of driving pleasure
which the large number of drivers from all over Europe is happy to confirm
Our electric charging infrastructure has proven to be able to cope with the tough demands of rallying without any problems
Calle Carlberg and Luca Pröglhöf
four cup champions have made it to the Junior European Championships with us
Our talent pyramid is therefore a great incentive for the young participants
it can be emphasised again and again: Electric rally racing works

Third place went to the Hungarian Bendegúz Hangodi
who caught everyone's attention with a best time in the first special stage
the joy of winner Lemke and his co-driver Jan-Eric Bemmann knew no bounds: “I don't have the words to describe my feelings
I had a great feeling in the car and the new tire compound from Michelin,” said the Cup veteran
who already competed in the first season world’s first electric rally one-make cup in 2021
“The good gave us confidence so that we could attack straight away
Driving through these treacherous stages with the Opel Corsa Rally Electric was great fun
Luca Pröglhöf and co-driver Christina Ettel were also happy with their start to the season: “On the first day
But the night test was really good for me and I quickly regained confidence in the car
Today I started the day well and am completely satisfied with how everything went.”
Third-placed Bendegúz Hangodi and his co-driver Dániel Petrovszki travelled from Hungary to northern Germany with high expectations
Hangodi said: “The podium finish is great
even though I had the feeling that my performance got better as the rally progressed
It was nice to see that we have the potential to fight for the championship
I should be happy with my debut but I am a perfectionist.”
Impressive appearance by DTM champion Timo Scheider
Timo Scheider also left a really strong impression
In his second guest start in the 100 kW (136 hp) Corsa Rally Electric
the 45-year-old DTM champion from 2008 and 2009 mastered the demanding special stages at the ADAC Rallye Sulingen brilliantly and ultimately took fifth place overall
Perfectly guided by his 24-year-old co-driver Jara Hain
the former Opel works driver Scheider himself gave a taste of his driving skills in the infamous military area in the Eickhofer Heide (formerly the IVG site) and set the third fastest time on the winding asphalt on Saturday
Scheider was satisfied at the finish: “I was aware from the outset that the leaders in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup would be extremely close together
with experienced people fighting against young rookies for every tenth
That's why I'm really happy with our performance
From the first special stage we were able to continuously improve
a big thank you goes to Opel for giving me the chance to be here
the passion to do more with it has been ignited.”
Opel Motorsport boss Jörg Schrott added: “What a great start to the fourth season of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup
We experienced a thrilling rally and I am delighted for Christian Lemke
The second round of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe” will take place on May 24/25 as part of the ELE Rally around Eindhoven in the Netherlands

The ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe" celebrated a perfect start to the 2023 campaign at the ADAC Actronics Rallye Sulingen
14 teams from seven nations offered thrilling rallying with several lead changes in their 100 kW/136 hp Opel Corsa Rally Electric
the spectators were treated to hotly contested battle between the cup veterans and the ambitious newcomers
The rally had started anything but promising for the 23-year-old German with a puncture in the first special stage
and his co-driver Conny Nemenich turned things up a notch
took command from special stage 6 and finally secured victory by setting the best time in the eleventh and final stage
“After losing time on the first special stage there was no point in tactics
I'm delighted that it worked out," said the 2021 runner-up who also finished third last year
Calle Carlberg (Sweden) and Cristiana Oprea (Romania) also suffered flat tyres in the opening stage
Sarah Rumeau (France) took advantage of the situation and became the first woman to set a best time in a special stage since the creation of the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in 2013
The 27-year-old also subsequently demonstrated that the best time was by no means a flash in the pan and was a strong challenger in the FFSA Academy's Corsa Rally Electric
the two-time French Rally Champion and co-driver Julie Amblard took a respectable fifth place
“We actually coped better with the adverse external conditions yesterday than today
I still need to learn how to get the most out of the Corsa Rally Electric on dry asphalt,” said Rumeau
I am satisfied with our debut in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup
Now we will continue to work on the details to be even better going forward.”
After their problems on the first special stage
The lead finally changed for the first time on special stage 5 when rookie Callea edged past his compatriot to the lead
the Saintéloc driver finished second together with co-driver Enzo Mahinc – all the more remarkable given that the 26-year-old has only been involved in rallying since 2020
Callea has already demonstrated his enormous potential by winning the FFSA’s young talent series “Rallye Jeunes”
which has already produced rally idols such as Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier
not least because of the bad weather on the first day
I still lack experience to be able to go to the limit under all conditions
Last year's cup runner-up Calle Carlberg
as always partnered by his father Torbjörn
also recovered after bad luck in the first special stage
He set fastest times on three stages and secured the last place on the podium
“That was electric rallying at its best,” said Jörg Schrott
“We didn't have any technical problems with our Corsa Rally Electric and the field of participants was more competitive than ever
I was particularly impressed by Sarah Rumeau's great performance
three all-female teams and competitive rally – we have a great field
I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.”
The second round of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe" 2023 will take place at the Rallye du Chablais around Aigle on 2./3
June and thus celebrate its debut in Switzerland

Referentin Geoinfomatik beim Deutschen Roten Kreuz
