Team HRC’s Tim Gajser took a convincing victory in the MXGP of Germany qualification race coming through from fourth place to pass the leader and increase his lead in the 2024 MXGP World Championship to six points In what was a dry day for the MXGP right up until the mid-point of the race Gajser had shown good speed in both practice sessions on the Teutschenthal track posting a second-placed time to give him second gate-pick for the evening moto the heavens opened once again as the Honda CRF450R rider moved into second-place Showing his skill in the slippery conditions he quickly closed up to rider out front – posting the fastest lap of the race in the process – and after a couple of close attempts he finally made the pass stick and immediately pulled away he made a gap of almost 10 seconds and took his third qualification race win of the season It was another impressive race and further proof that the Slovenian can ride in whatever the weather throws at him With the forecast looking better for tomorrow it’ll be a good chance for the #243 to show that he can win in the dry as well as the wet and given his confidence right now it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Team HRC at the front of the field in both of the GP-scoring motos Ferruccio Zanchi was caught up as an innocent victim in a first-lap incident having to remount his Honda CRF250R in last place On the extremely rutted Teutschenthal circuit the young Italian fought his way up to 14th place as time expired still giving him a decent opportunity of some solid points when the two motos take place tomorrow It was a real shame for Zanchi as he showed in the free practice (fifth) and the timed practice (seventh) that he was looking good for another top 10 result but it is all good experience and he can use that passing practice to good effect when the MX2 class take to what should hopefully be a dry circuit GateDrop.com Race One: Lucas Coenen grabbed the holeshot in the opening race ahead of Simon Laengenfelder but it didn’t take Kay de Wolf long to get his way into second The Husqvarna riders then set a very high pace at the front of the pack and pulled away from the rest of the field despite the very tricky and technical conditions The gap hovered around a second and it looked like we were set for a grand stand finish on the final lap With two laps to go De Wolf made a couple of mistakes but he was flying and closed the gap again before another costly mistake meant he couldn’t get close enough to make a pass Coenen rode well under the pressure to bring home the race win Laengenfelder had a lonely but sold ride for third with Adamo in fourth ahead of Elzinga Prugnieres had an impressive ride for sixth with Liam Everts only in seventh after a couple of crashes Race Two: Laengenfelder got the holeshot to the delight of his home crowd but the Husqvarna’s were on the move De Wolf made a move and started to pull away at the front but Coenen was on the move The Belgian got into second and tried to catch de Wolf who was doing a good job but then the Dutch rider crashed dropping down to third Coenen then had a comfortable gap and he brought it home to win the third GP in a row Adamo was battling with Laengenfelder early and had actually made a move for third before a costly crash dropped him down to sixth After de Wolf picked it back up he was locked in an intense battle with Laengenfelder as the pair swapping positions a few times before de Wolf got the better of him Mikkel Haarup had a strong ride on his Triumph for fourth Two of the best privateers riders of the weekend at the eighth round of the MXGP World Championship were injured during the second moto the Standing Construct Honda rider suffered a dislocated shoulder and fracture of the upper arm due to a crash in the second race Jonass will be under surgery to avoid further issues This is such a big blow-up for the Latvian as he was having one of the great seasons so far in the MXGP class Jonass still sits 5th in the standings with an overall win in Agueda he will miss his home GP in one week’s time in Kegums KTM Sahrolz´s Henry Jacobi weekend was a rollcoaster The local hero put all his effort into an impressive first moto on his first GP appearance this season finishing 10th after a big battle against the factory riders But his dream day ended drastically in the second moto as he broke his jaw Jacobi sits seven in the ADAC MX Masters standings but this injury probably will cost him some rounds sidelined Lucas Coenen and Andrea Adamo ruled proceedings for Red Bull KTM the United Nations’ climate chief calls “among the most important policy documents governments will produce this century” — their plans on how they will cut emissions of heat-trapping gases Most were not expected to make the deadline says that’s OK as long as they are working on them So far only a dozen of the 195 nations that signed the 2015 Paris climate agreement have filed their national plans for cutting emissions by 2035 Those nations account for only 16.2% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions — the chief human-caused heat-trapping gas — and almost all of that is from the United States where President Trump has already discarded the plan submitted by the Biden administration the only major emitters to submit 2035 targets are Brazil the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates Switzerland and Uruguay have filed their plans but they all produce less than 0.2% of the world’s carbon dioxide Climate Secretary Simon Stiell said that more than 170 countries have told his office they are working on their national plans “Taking a bit more time to ensure these plans are first-rate makes sense,” Stiell said last week in a policy speech in Brazil “These will be the most comprehensive climate plans ever developed.” policy director of the nonprofit Climate Group “It’s worrying that countries are failing to meet the urgency of the moment,” Patel said These plans — officially called Nationally Determined Contributions or NDCs — are the main mechanism of the landmark international agreement nations are supposed to come up with new and stronger five-year plans that outline their voluntary plans to limit or reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from the burning of coal The latest versions are supposed to be compatible with the Paris agreement’s goal of limiting long-term warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial times The world has been at 1.3 degrees Celsius (2.3 degrees Fahrenheit) since the late 1800s and is on pace to warm an additional 1.8 degrees Celsius (3.2 degrees Fahrenheit) Scientists say the warming atmosphere is driving ever more extreme weather events heat waves and wildfires that are killing people and causing billions of dollars in damage every year The new targets are also supposed to be for all greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride. They should cover the entire economy, not just the energy sector, according to a 2023 agreement Climate Action Tracker — a group of scientists and other experts who analyze nations’ climate plans for domestic emissions — found that four of the six Nationally Determined Contributions targets they looked at so far got an “almost sufficient” for their target of holding warming to 2 degrees Celsius with the group saying its plan was more compatible with 3 degrees of warming The U.K.’s plan was rated compatible for 1.5 degrees of warming with repeated mentions of efforts to combat deforestation Most of those countries were rated insufficient when the group of scientists compared what the nations plan to do with what they are actually doing and what their “fair share” is considering their resources and history where one of Trump’s first actions last month was pulling out of the Paris agreement “We know already right now that whatever [other] countries put out it is not enough,” Climate Action Tracker co-founder Niklas Hohne told the Associated Press on Monday The deadline — set in the Paris agreement to be nine months before the next international climate negotiations But Stiell said the real deadline is in September That’s when the United Nations will tally up all the plans and figure out how much emissions will be cut and how much future warming will be prevented if countries do what they promise The European Union and China should be done by the middle of the year and India will submit its target only after other major emitting nations do so Borenstein writes for the Associated Press. was behind Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Teams Romain Febvre for the first half of the second race before the Slovenian smartly passed the Frenchman and with that move won the Grand Prix of Germany who came into round 11 of the series with the red plate was second overall after finishing second in the dramatic opening moto and third in the second Febvre avoided mistakes in this final moto something that has plagued him this season he was unable to resist the charging Gajser Febvre finished the weekend third overall and also sits third in the standings There has been no further word on Prado after his move appeared to cause the collision with his teammate and reports say he was taken to the hospital for further assessment after suffering a laceration to his arm Prado has lost considerable ground in the championship title race sitting in fourth but 31 points back from Gajser Tony Cairoli struggled by his high standards likely due to his previous crashes and possibly a hangover from winning the Motocross of Nations The nine-time world champion finished seventh overall While Gajser heads to France for the inaugural GP at Lacapelle Marival with the series red plate on his works CRF450R that hard work will be overshadowed by the talk of the day Prado's controversial move on Herlings over the finish jump as they took the chequers just 14th hundredth of a second apart A lap-time almost 1.5 seconds faster than anybody else gave Jeffrey Herlings his seventh Pole Position from 11 rounds this season as the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team resumed MXGP duties in Germany Jorge Prado has been stretchered off the Teutschenthal circuit at the MXGP of Germany after crashing with teammate Jeffrey Herlings as they both took the chequered flag fractions of a second apart Mathys Boisrame has been given a fantastic opportunity to move up to MXGP with a fill-in ride for the Kawasaki Racing Team to cover the injured Ivo Monticelli Red Bull KTM’s Liam Everts became the third generation of the Belgian Everts family to win a round of the FIM Motocross World Championship joining grandad Harry and father Stefan in the history books following his win at round nine of the series at Teutschenthal in Germany A 2-1 scorecard was enough to seal the deal for Liam and he was joined on the podium by teammate Andrea Adamo who regains the MX2 championship lead and Monster Energy Yamaha’s Thibault Benistant The big news coming into the event was the return of Jago Geerts who’d broke his wrist in the qualifying race of the French GP three weeks ago Geerts was able to grit his teeth and grind out 13-7 finishes on the rough circuit in an attempt to keep his championship hopes alive Jago now sits fifth in the series standings – 64 points behind Adamo Everts holeshot race one but couldn’t keep 16-year-old countryman Lucas Coenen behind him The Husqvarna Factory Racing rider instantly moved into the lead and rocketed away to lead home Everts and Adamo A great ride for ASA United GASGAS entrant Bobby Bruce saw him claim 15th as the last rider to stay on the lead lap Taylor Hammal just missed out on points in 21st while Charlie Cole battled to 26th in his first GP moto of the year Coenen also set the pace in moto two with Everts and Adamo taking chase once they’d got around the fast-starting Geerts who was doing all he could to maximise his points haul With the laps counting down and Coenen already spending the bonus cheque in his head he suffered the cruellest of blows when his chain snapped putting him out of contention This handed Everts the lead and he duly delivered career first moto and overall victories for the Red Bull KTM team “It’s definitely nice to win this one,” said Liam “We made some good steps with the bike and I felt ‘at one’ with it I’m the third generation of our family and I have to perform It is a load off my shoulders but I want to keep going I felt good and could push right to the end of that second moto Adamo followed his teammate across the line to make it a Red Bull KTM 1-2 on the day “It was not the best day of the season so far but really good for the championship,” said Andrea one in the quali race and another in the first moto and it felt like I was always losing the lead group somehow In the second Liam was really fast so I just tried to bring it home and with good points Monster Energy Yamaha’s Thibault Benistant rounded out the podium with his 4-3 scorecard moving him up to second in the series standings as the red plate proved heavy for Kay de Wolf as the series leader coming into the German GP could only muster 11-10 finishes as he moved from first to third in the championship chase No points for the Brits in moto two with Cole a non-starter and Bruce and Hammal both early retirees MX2 GP of Spain winner to sit out next few FIM Motocross World Championship rounds as he recovers from surgery A double win sees Herlings move in on Jorge Prado in MXGP title chase Tom Vialle was unlucky in Teutschenthal as he suffered an early exit from the second race of the MXGP of Germany as his factory KTM appeared to suffer a terminal problem The Red Bull KTM rider had a nail-biting win in the first race as he battled with the two riders from factory Yamaha That race-one victory extended his MX2 championship lead on Geerts to 14 points with the red plate holder sandwiched between Benistant in the lead and Geerts in third https://www.tmxnews.co.uk/news/motocross/mxgp/mxgp-germany-results-2022-teutschenthal/ Benistant went on to win the second moto and his career-first Grand Prix victory with it and Mikkel Haarup was third for third overall Geerts now takes back the red plate with an eight-point lead on Vialle as the series takes a one-week break before heading to Indonesia Tom Vialle on his GP and on what the team described as a minor technical hitch: I really like the track in Germany and had a good connection right away that allowed me to win the qualifying race and then have the holeshot and control the first moto I holeshotted the second race my starts were really strong this weekend and [Thibault] Benistant passed me on the first lap and I was quite settled in second It cost us a few points but were doing really well and I know well be able to answer and fight back very soon Team HRC’s Tim Gajser returned to winning ways at Teutschenthal taking his seventh overall of the MXGP season to extend his lead to an impressive 101 points Maxime Renaux has been ruled out of the MXGP of Germany in Teutschenthal with fractured vertebrae The 22-year-old Frenchman sustained
