Cybercrime research of Rolf van Wegberg has been nominated for the Klokhuis Science Prize 2024
This award is presented annually to research that is interesting and relevant for children aged 9 to 12
The goal of the prize is to introduce a broad and young audience to science
"I'm thrilled that my research has been nominated for this award!" says Rolf
"I enjoy sharing my knowledge about cybercrime and cybersecurity with children
I believe it's important to teach kids the basics of cybersecurity as they venture into the online world." TU Delft has submitted the following proposal to Klokhuis:
Rolf investigates how criminals earn money from information you send via your phone
And how can you make sure they can't access your photos
Rolf explains how you can protect yourself from these criminals
but you also need to protect yourself with passwords and not just click 'agree' everywhere because you don't always know who is getting your information
With a phone diploma for your very first phone
you'll know what you should and shouldn't do

Gert Kraft made his fortune in the printing industry
In 1974 he and Josef Schlötels founded the printing business "Kraft & Schlötels" in Wassenberg near Aachen
In 2005 the company sold to the Vibro Group and in 2009 they merged with 8 other printing businesses into WKS Gruppe
In 1983 he founded stallion station and dressage center Gestut St
Ludwig was a leading stallion station in the 1990s standing sires such as Donnerschlag
Lanciano and having its heydays as a sales hub with auctions and shows
Kraft was one of the first to push a heavy marketing
promotion and publicity plan for his operation and gained much visibility
Heiko Munzmaier was the leading rider at the station
Ludwig also partnered with Belgian Philippe Jorissen and Dutch Stephanie Peters
In the 2000s the station focused more on horse sales through the company "SL Sporthorses" and underwent heavy reorganisation. In 2001 they stopped hosting auctions and in 2002 they began selling several of their top sires. Donnerschlag sold to the U.S.A, Akribori went to Sweden and Aquilino to Switzerland
In 2003 ex-wife Britta Kraft returned the general-management position back to Gert
and the property was listed on the market for 1.5 million euro
In 2004 Gert's son Klaus was appointed as general director of the company
The Kraft family closed ranks and managed the yard together
After the departure of Munzmaier as head rider St
Ludwig's presence on the market slowly petered out
Kraft was ordered by his doctors to take it more easy and think of retirement
even though his energy level was still nuclear
His nickname was also Kraftwerk (nuclear power plan)
Ludwig back on the market for 3.9 million euro
In 2018 the property to Korean Olympic dressage rider Dong Seon Kim, who resided there for one year and then put it back on the market

AGC Glass Europe announced intentions to close two automotive glass plants in Europe; its Wegberg Plant located in Germany
The closure will affect 84 employees within the next two years
The decision to close the plant is based on the amount of continued pressure the automotive market has been under
compounded by factors like uncertainty about engine technology
The company is considering a gradual shutdown over the next year
AGC Glass cites similar reasons for closing the plant
“In an unstable and deeply evolving automotive market
the profitability of the windscreen business has been affected for several years now by a strong and worldwide competition between glass manufacturers and by the products’ technological evolutions
the Group's difficulties in saturating its laminated glass production lines were exacerbated by the Covid crisis and the ongoing semiconductor crisis
there has been a dramatic increase in energy and raw material costs.”

The testing will continue in Germany for six months before the rolling stock is delivered to the UK for network live tests
The first of five new London Underground trains has begun testing at the Siemens test track in Wegberg-Wildenrath
The process will last six months before the trains are released to Transport for London (TfL) for “live track” tests on the London metro network in mid-2024
The trains will enter passenger service on the Piccadilly Line in 2025
Railway Technology was invited to Siemens’ 44-hectare
24-hour-a-day testing facility to experience the new Inspiro London model in action
Dynamic testing in Germany has already covered acceleration and braking
although Siemens Mobility Joint CEO Samit Banerjee said the closed track presented different tests to the Underground network
the Test and Validation Centre track is entirely above ground
“Some things we have not found here may come up in the live track [testing]
so then we need to work on that,” he told Railway Technology
Although both London and the area of Germany where the tests are being held rarely experience extreme weather
the trains are undergoing trials at temperatures up to 40°C
in winds of up to 100km/h and in icy conditions in a “climate chamber” in Austria
Both the manufacturer and network managers at TfL pointed out the technical and engineering upgrades to the stock
which will replace the existing stock that has been in service since the late 1970s

Perhaps the most obvious of these for passengers will be the wider doors and reconfigured carriage layout
Siemens Mobility’s Director of Major Programmes Dave Hooper explained that moving air conditioning units underneath carriages means no equipment needs to be above passengers
“We’ve designed the whole car to the optimum size of the envelope that was given to us,” he told reporters at the test facility
This has increased capacity by 10% on each carriage
“And there are no end doors—the single doors you see on other Tube stock
All the doors on this train are double doors to allow people on and off quicker,” Hooper added
The technical benefits of the new Inspiro rolling stock will be less obvious to passengers
The units are significantly lighter than previous London Underground trains
thanks to innovations allowing fewer bogies per train
That means the train’s lighter and more track-friendly
which helps to generate more OpX [operations] savings in the years to come,” Hooper explained
The trains will enter passenger service in 2025 on a mixed-stock basis while all 94 trains are built
Siemens plans to assemble half of the new London metro stock at its facility in Goole
where fit-out is nearly complete and recruitment is underway
engineers will need to shave down some of the Piccadilly Line station platforms
as the new stock is several millimetres wider than the current rolling stock
TfL said this was always planned and is part of its normal operations
