What an honor: Special Olympics athletes Heidi Kuder
Natascha Wermelskirchen and Tamara Röske are featured in the June issue of VOGUE Germany
which is available in stores and online from today on
The first rays of spring sunshine appeared in the Rudolf-Harbig-Halle, the national athletics training center right next to the Berliner Olympiastadion, where the big Opening Ceremony will take place on 17 June
Besides the first rays of sunshine shining through the window
there was excitement and curiosity: the photo shoot with German VOGUE
the athletes were photographed in a mix of current designer collections and sportswear
All three athletes will actively participate in the Games in Berlin. Heidi Kuder will compete in athletics, Natascha Wermelskirchen as a goalkeeper for the German national football team and Tamara Röske
who is already experienced as a model and actress
The VOGUE shooting aims to promote the visibility of athletes with intellectual disabilities:
Through our shoot with the three athletes from the German delegation
we want to contribute to broadening the perspective and
also to advance the inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas
because especially in the fashion environment this does not yet take place naturally enough," says Maria Hunstig
The June issue of VOGUE Germany with the feature on the three Special Olympics athletes is available in stores and online from 30 May 2023 under the title "Unterwegs". There is also a nice online article (German on, but also available in Leichte Sprache) including the profile of the three athletes.

BERLIN (AP) — A 45-year-old German man who had offered babysitting services online was convicted Tuesday on charges of sexually abusing children in a case that shocked even veteran investigators and led them to uncover numerous other abuse suspects
The regional court in Cologne sentenced the defendant
It also ordered him held in secure confinement after the end of his sentence
Prosecutors had asked the court to impose a 15-year sentence
the maximum length normally permitted under German law
arguing that the defendant’s crimes were particularly grave
Prosecutors had accused the man of more than 120 cases of sexual abuse against 13 children between 2005 and 2019
The defendant admitted the allegations during the trial and described them as “despicable,” according to German news agency dpa
Police arrested the man in late 2021 at a house he lived in with his wife in the town of Wermelskirchen
The defendant was in a video call with work colleagues at the time of the police raid

Regionalverkehr Köln (RVK) is putting the first hydrogen articulated buses on the road
The German public transport operator ordered 18 units of the Solaris Urbino 18 Hydrogen last year
eight of which have now been put into service at the RVK depot in Wermelskirchen
Cologne’s regional transport company RVK has contracted Solaris to supply 18 articulated hydrogen buses starting in summer 2024
The vehicles will serve on RVK routes in the greater Cologne/Bonn area and are part of a major FCEV roll out in the region
this is the first order for the articulated bus from the Polish manufacturer
The Urbino 18 Hydrogen is also the latest Solaris model launched only in September 2022 and RVK already had one to test
the bendy bus can travel up to 350 kilometres
and a refuelling process should take around 20 minutes
A 60 kWh battery supports the fuel cell at high power demand and is also used for energy recovery during braking
the new articulated bus offers space for up to 140 passengers
Currently, the RVK fleet comprises 72 hydrogen buses, including 35 fuel cell solo buses from Solaris, namely the Urbino 12 Hydrogen. Further H2 buses have been ordered from Wrightbus, and 35 buses from Van Hool are already in service. In April 2022
Regionalverkehr Köln received a funding notification from the federal government for 108 fuel cell buses
this is the third order of the carrier Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH for hydrogen buses and exceeds an option for 40 FCEVs RKV reserved when being granted federal funding
“Thanks to the funding from the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport and the speedy tendering process
we are making great strides towards our goal of zero emissions,” said Marcel Frank
the Cologne and Bonn area was becoming a “European leader in the use of hydrogen technology in public transportation
Starting with the first Urbino hydrogen ordered in 2020
we have initiated a partnership with RVK that sets new standards for European carriers.”
The first eight units of the above-mentioned 18 H2 buses ordered are now in service
it now has 101 fuel cell buses on the road
The bendy buses are said to be the first hydrogen-fuelled articulated buses in regular service in a European fleet
The remaining ten units will probably be delivered this month
The H2 buses are part of an order for 108 fuel cell buses for which the public transport operator from Cologne received funding from the German federal government in 2022

Swedish/German extreme metal metallers ARCH ENEMY debuted two brand new songs — "No Gods
No Masters" and "Yesterday Is Dead And Gone" — during their very special and intimate showcase on March 14
a self-governed youth center which is well known for its various underground metal
punk and hardcore shows with a capacity of 200 people
The Wermelskirchen show kicked off the campaign for ARCH ENEMY's new album
which will be made available all across Europe on May 30 via Century Media Records
Only 150 die-hard fans plus journalists from all over Europe witnessed the worldwide premiere of two new songs from the upcoming album
it was sweaty and it smelled like "khaos."
Commented ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott: "Normally
an 'industry'/media show is a quite stiff and slightly boring affair
We invited 150 ARCH ENEMY fans to join us via our Facebook page and voilà — it was ON
We had a blast ripping through the two new songs for the first time on stage
and judging by the crowd reaction — they were feeling it too
A big thanks to all involved; the Century Media crew
the journalists and of course the amazing fans
This was a perfect start to the 'Khaos Legions' campaign!"
You can see photos of this very remarkable event at this location
after releasing the "Tyrants Of The Rising Sun - Live In Japan" live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album
The CD was tracked at Sweet Spot Studio in the south of Sweden with engineer Rickard Bengtsson (who produced 2005's "Doomsday Machine")
which comes courtesy of renowned artist Brent Elliott White (MEGADETH
ARCH ENEMY drummer Daniel Erlandsson previously stated about the new CD
"We had a very inspiring and creative time writing this album
I think this is definitely evident when listening to the new songs
ranging all the way from very melodic to extremely heavy
"As you can expect there's no shortage of killer riffs and intricate guitar work; the Amott brothers [Michael and Chris] have come up with some very cool yet demanding ideas
"This album has some of the fastest songs I've ever recorded
along with a bunch of heavy pounding mid-tempo songs
but rest assured — this album will be one heavy fucker!"
