Great decision for the industrial plant in Wildeshausen
a brand-new iron foundry will start its operations next year
as announced by the managers of the company HYDROTEC Technologies AG
the approval procedures with the authorities are proceeding cooperatively so that this ambitious plan can soon be realised
HYDROTEC Technologies AG is a family-managed German company that produces manhole covers and drainage channels
It operates worldwide with successful country representatives
The partner foundry ERKON in Turkey currently produces some of the standard products for drainage technology
The decision to build a modern iron foundry in Germany on a green field site may surprise at first
but Jürgen Unewisse cites good reasons for choosing this location
you are planning to build a modern iron foundry in Wildeshausen
What is the current planning status and how does the cooperation work with the authorities
the planning is completed and the building permit
has been submitted in accordance with the Federal Emission Control Act
The cooperation with authorities works well
as each side concentrates on its responsible tasks
FP: The global trend is outsourcing of casting to other regions in the world
What are the arguments for Germany as an industrial location
Jürgen Unewisse: Germany is an industrial country
metal production and metal processing are the great strength of our industry
With the right equipment and process management
any production in Germany can produce economically
Which part of Germany's investments is climate-related
Jürgen Unewisse: I cannot imagine that a company would make such an investment only for this reason
but it certainly affects the CO² footprint
Jürgen Unewisse: The idea is to prepare the company for the future and to establish it well on the market
FP: Which capacity are you aiming for the new foundry plant
must be considered as an addition to our foundry partner ERKON
We will concentrate on certain groups according to the plant technology
The capacity will be around 20,000 tonnes per year
FP: The HYDROTEC Foundry Wildeshausen could become a European beacon project
what are you planning in terms of equipment
Jürgen Unewisse: Being a " beacon " is not our motivation
but we act from an economic point of view – with a little risk
should always use the most innovative possibilities if it wants to survive on the market on a long-term basis
This is how we started the planning of the foundry
If the "lack of personnel" or the "personnel costs" are identified as challenges
we must focus on the optimal use of digitisation and its logistical processes in the process chain as well as its workflows
transport doesn't make a product more valuable
how do you ensure the energy supply for the foundry plant
Jürgen Unewisse: Electricity is our main source of energy
The problem of electricity is not a supply problem
it is not the price itself that is important
but the price in the international comparison
we will cover part of the energy demand with PV systems
FP: A high-tech foundry should be a pole of attraction for young people
How do you rate the situation on the labour market to recruit the right employees
Jürgen Unewisse: Recruiting staff is certainly not an unimportant point in a project like this
You must consider the expectations of a potential employee towards his or her employer
Specialists and managers are recruited on the labour market
We are mainly searching for people who are interested in helping to build up a production
this form of professional self-fulfilment is a big bonus in terms of employer attractiveness
FP: Investing in the future is an important point for a family-operated company
What is the strategy of HYDROTEC Technologies AG in terms of family tradition
Jürgen Unewisse: Maybe I am not the right person to answer this question but let me try to explain: HYDROTEC was founded 55 years ago and is now being managed by the second generation
This kind of challenge is a generational task
FP: The groundbreaking for the new foundry is scheduled on 01 July 2023
We are looking forward to the first casting
and we wish you and the whole team good luck

GALESBURG — Fifteen students from Germany are visiting Galesburg until next week
They are here as part of an exchange program at Galesburg High School that has been going on since 2012
a college prep school in northwest Germany
visiting Galesburg and Chicago for three weeks
I need to come here again and again and again
the students were participating in a cooking activity
They made a variety of German and American food
Gurkensalat (German cucumber salad) and Ofenkartoffeln (German baked potatoes)
March 14 in Chicago and travelled to Galesburg
where they were greeted with a dessert bar
they took classes with their host students and took tours of other District 205 schools
the host students take the German students to nearby cities
“I went with my host to Springfield,” Madeleine Marowksy
Marowsky said this exchange program has been a good experience so far
but in an absolutely good way,” Marowsky said
I'm really enjoying this kind of personality.”
The students will leave Galesburg next Wednesday and tour Chicago with their host students for three days
which the Germans are very excited about,” Lea Kaminiarz said
She is one of the instructors from Wildeshausen
This exchange program is part of the Goethe-Institut’s German American Partnership Program
which is sponsored by the German Foreign Office and the U.S
GHS German teacher Eric Spindler used to work in Tucson
an English and history instructor at Gymnasium Wildeshausen

“It’s just really good to expose American students to German students and how they live
“It’s got person-to-person diplomacy at the student level

French young dressage professional Gwendal le Stunff tragically passed away in a car accident on 3 March 2024
Gwendal lived in Gesvres in the Loire where his parents have their own breeding stable which mainly focuses on Lusitano breeding
Between September 2018 and August 2020 Le Stunff did his apprenticeship to become a professional rider with French Olympian Jessica Michel-Botton at Haras de Hus in Le Petit Mars
He moved to Germany and rode for Dressurstal Sandbrink as well as for private clients
His first competition in Germany was in June 2021 and he showed a string of horses at regional shows in Germany and Holland through October 2023. He qualified Nobilisyade NVDW (by Habanna x Fruhling) for 2023 Pavo Cup semi-finals in which he finished 53rd
In December 2023 he moved to the Wahler's stallion station Klosterhof Medingen where he had picked up a riding position
The Wahler familu announced the passing of Le Stunff on their social media
The station posted today: "It is with deepest and unbelievable sadness that we say goodbye to Gwendal le Stunff
Our French rider has been working with us since the end of last year
He was taken from life completely unexpectedly last weekend
he quickly became an important member of our team
Both his riding skills and professional handling of the horses as well as his funny and cheerful personality leave a big gap
Our condolences go out to his family and his girlfriend Pauline."
Gwen's last post on social media on 28 February
He wrote 'We all need a good reason to wake up on the morning'Le Stunff passed away in the night of 2 to 3 March 2024 in a car crash on the A1 motorway between Wildeshausen and Groß Ippener
According to the Alhorn police "a 27-year-old from Uelzen drove into the car of a 38-year-old man from Bocholt for unknown reasons
The collision caused both vehicles to skid and come to a stop in the overtaking lane." Le Stunff was not severely injured at that moment until "a 51-year-old driver from Hamburg drove into the two vehicles
The man from Bocholt and his passenger as well as the man from Hamburg were each seriously injured."
an emergency doctor and the Wildeshausen fire department came to the scene but all help was too late for Le Stunff
Le Stunff's funeral will take place on 15 March in the church of Gesvres

This blog will chronicle the lives of 14 Galesburg High School students and their teacher
Germany on a month-long language and cultural exchange
Wildeshausen students spent three weeks in Galesburg during March of 2012 and 2013
Today our students had a break from their regular school schedule
as we took a field trip to the Auswandererhaus in Bremerhaven
Bremerhaven is one of Europe's largest shipping ports
and was a center of emigration to North America in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
One of the first things that I noticed as we approached the harbor area
Bremerhaven was a stronghold of the German navy during the Nazi era
The first leads visitors on a journey through time
where we saw nineteenth century families saying their good byes at the pier
knowing that they might never see each other again
We climbed the steep stairs to 'the ship' and saw what living conditions were like for the passengers
I learned the story of a prominent Berliner physician who was forced to close her practice in 1933 because she was Jewish
Her family was forced to leave Germany in 1936 when life became intolerable under the Nazi regime
The second section of the museum introduces visitors to German immigrants
Here I learned the story of a Vietnamese teen who traveled to East Germany in the 1980s when there was a labor shortage
and the government of the GDR was recruiting workers from other communist countries
The museum also has a research room where visitors can access ship records and try to find ancestors who may have passed through the port of Bremerhaven
One of the girls in our group was able to find a photo of her grandmother
the students broke into small groups and put their language skills to good use ordering lunch and shopping for souvenirs at a nearby mall
All of that practice in Herr Spindler's German classes at GHS was paying off
Mary Panther is retired from teaching German at Galesburg High School
it appears 16 German students in Galesburg as part of a foreign exchange program between their school in Wildeshausen and Galesburg High School are enjoying life in west-central Illinois
The students like the laid-back atmosphere at GHS and say people in the community have been friendly
it was easy to see a relaxed friendship has developed among the students from the two countries in just more than a week
attend a college prep school in Wildeshausen
a city of about 20,000 in northwest Germany
Three or four GHS students will visit Wildeshausen for four weeks in June
“Lifestyles are way cooler here,” Hollmann said
but I wouldn’t like to live with it,” she said
“My experience was very good,” Hollmann said
“But I’m getting better and I do like it.”
The young visitors said school is easier in Galesburg
Wloch said their school is strict and teachers are very formal
She said it was a surprise that teachers here interact so much with their students
“They’re just more friendly here,” she said
Schröder said it might seem schools are stricter in Germany
The students visiting here attend the top tier of the three types
Hollmann explained that the lowest level is “for kids just to learn a profession
We are going to learn to go to college or a university
I think it’s like here” in terms of not being as strict
While most students go through school at one type of school in Germany
Wloch said she has attended all three types
All agreed the lowest tier includes many students with behavioral problems
“They just don’t want to learn,” Hollmann said
“In our school if you want to survive ...”
they throw you out,” he finished his thought
Students at the lower levels attend school for nine years and can have an apprenticeship
The students interviewed agreed students at the middle level are more intelligent than those at the lowest level and want to learn
He is one of the “three or four” GHS students who will be traveling to Germany
“It’s pretty much like a friend staying the night for three weeks straight
who seemed the most relaxed of the German students
Asked if he was looking forward to his trip to Germany
Boyd seemed surprised to be asked the question
is learning something that might at first seem a bit odd
“I think I’m actually learning more about the English language by having to explain it,” Smith said
All three of the visiting students spoke English very well
which he used at times when looking for a specific word he wanted to use
He also asked Boyd what was meant by asking if Boyd was “looking forward” to the visit to Germany
worked with fellow educator Marcus Hemjeoltmanns of the school in Germany to arrange for the student exchange
While this is a first for this type of exchange at GHS
did a similar exchange with Hemjeoltmanns four years ago when Spindler taught in Tucson
Two German schools took part in that exchange
Spindler said the trip is paid for by the U.S
Department of State and the German Foreign Ministry
“The main work is organized by me and the partner school,” Spindler said
They will have time to visit Chicago before flying back to Frankfurt
Wloch said they flew into Chicago but immediately got on a bus to Galesburg
Other trips are planned or have been taken
“I’m planning on taking him (Hollmann) to Peoria or Davenport (Iowa) this weekend,” Boyd said
where they visited the Abraham Lincoln Museum and Lincoln’s Tomb
among other attractions in the capital city
Wloch said she liked the interactive part of the Lincoln Museum
The students said they’ve been to other countries
travel before this trip was mostly limited to Europe
“It’s because Germany is so small it is normal to visit other countries when you are on holiday,” Hollmann
“I think it’s like here to visit another state.”
The students weren’t completely sure whether to count that as being outside Europe or not
“England kind of has a special status in Europe
Spindler is excited about the GHS students traveling to Germany
“It really puts language in their hands,” he said
they’ll have the chance to apply what they’ve learned in class.”
He said the idea is to eventually have the same number of Galesburg students travel to Germany as German students coming here
He said 16 students came from Germany this time because two teachers — Tanya Krönke and Hemjeoltmanns — accompanied them
Spindler said the principal in Wildeshausen felt it was necessary to send more students to justify sending two teachers
